The original FE.A.R. is one of the best FPS games of all time. This...this is not. The writing is horrendous, the scares are far too in-your-face. Somehow, they screwed up the core gameplay of FEAR (who would have thought that was possible?). They made a good amount of battles completely unfair. Difficulty and fairness are two separate things. The original F.E.A.R was difficult, but never unfair. The voice acting is flat, and not only are the scares in-your-face like I said before, they're also completely and utterly predictable and just not...scary.

This expansion shines in a few moments, but...it's just nothing short of poor beyond that.

"Been there, done that" is what I was constantly thinking to myself as I played through this expansion. Released 2 years after the original FEAR, Perseus Mandate shows now effort to introduce anything new to the series. You get 3 or 4 new weapons and a couple new enemy types but everything else is the same. The levels are repetitive and there is still grey everywhere. The story still makes no sense and, just like it was in Extraction Point, is considered to not be canon by the franchise. It's not scary, not interesting, and not fun. Only those who still desire more of the original game should try this disappointing expansion. Expand

Pathetic, boring, cheated enemies with fight scenes without any fun. If you like FEAR and good balanced game, this is just a try how to do something else, but bad way.

  1. Unfortunately, the new enemies aren't that much different from the original ones, and the additional weapons don't add much to the game. Veteran players will have a persistent "been there, done that" feeling throughout the adventure, while newcomers may feel a little lost, since Perseus Mandate makes so many direct references to the previous games.

We’ll make this easy. If you’re a fan of F.E.A.R. and have just been looking for more of the same firefights with a couple of new weapons and enemies, then you’re probably going to find Perseus Mandate fun. If you’re looking for something new or compelling and some flahy sound or visuals, don’t bother.
  3. F.E.A.R. doesn't deliver this time around, the looks are fading and the sounds aren't at all new and fresh.
