    Far Cry 3 is an amazing game that proves consistently enjoyable despite its flaws. First off, the PC version is an incredibly well optimized game. I played through the entire campaign on a midrange laptop with most settings at High, three at medium in Directx 11. I had to disable Ambient Occlusion in the config file but god the game still looks gorgeous and runs butter smooth for me.Far Cry 3 is an amazing game that proves consistently enjoyable despite its flaws. There is also a TON of game here, probably 40 hours if you are into doing the side stuff which helps level up your character. Things lose steam a bit when you hit the second island, but nothing as severe as in Far Cry 2, which I loved at first and then got so bored I never finished.

    The major issues as have been well discussed are with the narrative. You will hate your character at the start of the game, and there are lots of missed opportunities to get the player emotionally involved in the plot. It really sticks out because some of the voice acting is phenomenal, the main characters are motion captured and brilliantly animated. And some of them are really memorable even if they are underserved in the greater narrative.

    BUT, the game mechanics themselves work beautifully. If you are a fan of shooters and/or open world games this is a must play. Come expecting some blemishes, but if you stick around you will see that they only stand out because so much of this game truly shines. I had a BLAST playing it and am sad that its over!    … Expand

    Great, engaging and beautiful. Characters are actually developing over time and, although the story is compelling, you'll spend a lot of time just cruising around in a speedboat or hunting dangerous wildlife.

    Overall, a great sandbox.

    The only derp is the necessity of Uplay even if the game is bought through Steam, which is absurd. But not even that can ruin an otherwise great game.

A lot of the side quests are pretty boring, but I really enjoyed taking all of the outposts, coming up with new and interesting ways to do each one. Sure, I could just snipe everyone from afar, but what's the fun in that? Sometimes I'd try to do it with only knife kills, sometimes I'd go guns blazing, throwing C4 and grendades every which way. Now that I'm done with the game, I'm missing it, but I don't think this game has much replay value unless you wait a year or more between playthroughs. Nonetheless, it's been a LONG time since I've had that much fun playing a game for so long, so I think it deserves a 10.… Expand

    A great game! The story was pretty decent and the environments looked amazing (people not so much tho). The world was open enough to be fun without being so large that you wound up hating it. I also liked having the freedom to choose between tackling an objective/outpost stealthily or just running in guns blazing. As a sidenote, the DLC is pretty meh with only the monkey business quests being worthwhile.     The same as the 360 version but with some amazing graphics,better controls and the map editor is much better than before so buy its cheaper so well buy it and the opptunity for mods

    Masterpiece. Fun gunplay, excellent level design, story, game mechanics, ludonarrative gameplay, literally everything about this game is perfect. Although there are some small technical issues with crashing on DX11, mouse acceleration has to be disabled through unpacking game files, etc.

Unfortunately enough you’ve managed to be captured by Pirates, but these aren’t possibly the ones you might be thinking of, with peg legs, long black bushy beards still dripping from rum and mountains of gold, no no no. These are pirates who care a lot for “little white boys” only due to the fact you’re being held at ransom providing your parents love you enough. However you are just a rich kid, partying with your mates, there is no Liam Neeson with a particular set of skills coming to save you. No, no one is coming to save you from your captor who, I nearly forgot to add, is a 100% psycho path who enjoys toying with his hostages imagine if the joker got a tan but held onto the same sense of humour, then you’re getting close to the mind set of Vaas, the Mohicaned maniac who you are now under the possession of.
    Fast forward past your daring escape (no need to spoil the opening), you wake up confused, clearly in some sort of hut with someone beside you. In the time that you’ve spent unconscious the has decided to tattoo you or rather tatau you as it is called, this my friend is your admittedly somewhat cool way to show how much you’ve levelled up in the game, each new skill you unlock in one of your 3 skill trees adds a new part of the tatau to your arm, the 3 trees are the Heron (long range attacks and mobility) the Spider (stealth and survival) and the shark (first aid and killing), for completionists and those with the want to kill in stunning and sometimes spectacular ways will be able to get a good grasp on most of these, however if you’re just going to run and gun your way through then its best if you just focus on the shark. Anyway this man is called Dennis and appears to be your guide through these new lands, he offers you a machete and essentially pushes you on your now task of finding your friends and possibly killing Vaas if fortune holds.

    Awesome game. I just created an Metacritic account just to leave this game a 10/10 review. Best game I've played in a long while. On par with Skyrim. Amazing story. And one of the best endings, ever.

    This game, in one word; amazing. I'm a huge fan of Cry-tek and Far Cry 3 is the best Far Cry yet. Absolutely gorgeous and well worth more than one play-through. Tis an improvement from Far Cry 2 (which i must admit was disappointing) due to improved shooter mechanics, a better story, and the crafting is the icing on the cake, but 1 complaint; the online multiplayer did not live up toThis game, in one word; amazing. Far Cry 3 has also a deep hunting system and with that a great crafting system. You see you can kill two bears skin them for all there skins and fur open the crafting menu and use the bear parts to make a bigger backpack so you can keep more loot or maby a bigger gun holster so u can cary more weapons (max 4 To go further, Far Cry 3 adds awesome multiplayer that you can dump a bunch of houers in if u like FPS games. With an exelent leveling system unlocks and more plus a co-op campaign that u can play with up to three friends and it is realy realy realy funny! My advice to you is to get off your computer chair and buy Far Cry 3! if ur into fps games or rpg.s you will love this game! My final verdict for Far Cry 3 is FULL!!! as high as i can give 10/10 buy this NOW!… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far cry 3 is a great and dramatic first person open world game. There are level system, buy your own wepons and upgrade them. A lot of fun sidemissions and good graphics. Far Cry 3's story is probably the best story I've ever heard. It is exciting and you get a feeling that you just have to play on and find out what happens next. you have not played this game yet, you just buy it! It is worth every penny!

The theme of insanity is present all the way, be it in the form of the characters or in the form of cruelty and the craziness of events that can be found everywhere on the island(s). The music was breathtaking it's as simple as that. This music combined with magnificent sights and trippy cutscenes made for such an immersive experience! Besides Vaas is one ofthe story is staged perfectly.     COD in jungle? Nope, you are wrong. Far Cry 3 is way beyond that. It is like going on to an extreme holiday. It is a masterpiece, it is an experience. Graphics, check. AI and mechanics, check. Worth the every penny of your 60 bucks. Best FPS ever made.

    As a player of FarCry 2 i was impelled to try this. I waited for it to come out on sale in case i was upset. the only thing i am upset about id not getting it sooner. What a stunning game. So much to do and see, it can keep you entertained for hours on end. Fantastic. Takes some getting used to in my opinion but its great.

    This game is simply perfect, story is best,characters are also impressive.In addition this game has best graphics,far cry 2 was not so much attractive but this is really a master piece. Its story has no link to far cry 2,pc version contains so much bugs like sometimes u cant pick up a weapon.For me,this game is capable of getting 9 at least.

    Memorable characters, Great plot, Interesting side-quests AMAZING weapons and add-ons,
    and I LOVE the outpost-capturing system.

    Far Cry 3, exceeded my expectations. The only problem I had with this game other than some of the boxes when going on a sloped surface is that after finishing the game I lost the will to play it again for a long time, even though I told myself I'll complete all the side-quests.

    The story is amazing and it truly makes you feel a part of it. You develop feelings for characters, for some you feel sorry, some make you laugh and some you admire. Even the antagonists are characters you feel for them.
    The open world and the ways you reveal it are a big part of the game and it pretty much scores it.
    From the little things like driving, crafting or gaining skills to the shooting and completing the game Far Cry 3 nails it.
    All I can say is that I highly recommend every shooter and campaign enthusiasts to get the game.
    Multiplayer is great but nothing too special.

    A wonderful game.

    Enjoyable missions, varied tasks, a good story, an emotional connection to characters, minimal "grind" or "walking simulation". On the whole, a satisfying ride that I'll probably come back to again to play all the way through.

    This game is definitely one of the best/my favorite games of all time, I've spent countless hours playing this game all night leveling up, hunting, killing, and progressing through the amazing story.
    I give Far cry 3 an 10/10. I hope more people buy this masterpiece of a game to enjoy the same experiences I did.

    By far the best single player shooter I have ever played. I have psent over 200 hours playing this game and feel like I have barely skimmed the surface. The mission are thrilling, suspensful and comedic at times too (like buring down marijuana fields with flamethrowers). The different islands are huge and there are so many animals to hunt, so many collectibles and so many things to unlockBy far the best single player shooter I have ever played.     I have to say between 2012- 2013 i have bought over 20 games from GTA 5, Skyrim, to rome total war 2. yet this is the only game that i feel has a proper finished feeling to it! yes graphics and story is all good, but what really makes it special is the originality of the close quarters combat, not even Skyrim is close to it, which one would expect after having developed 3 beforeI have to say between 2012- 2013 i have bought over 20 games from GTA 5, Skyrim, to rome total war 2. yet this is the only game that i feel has a proper finished feeling to it! yes graphics and story is all good, but what really makes it special is the originality of the close quarters combat, not even Skyrim is close to it, which one would expect after having developed 3 before daggerfall, morrowing and oblivion, for a CQC game skyrim fighting is bulkish at best and nowhere near as original as far cry 3, i spend most of my time trying original ways to clear camps using cqc and is one of the reasons that have motivated me to finish it for a third time on very hard. the last time i was motivated to do so in a game was metal gear snake eater! by far one of the most polished games of the last 2 years… Expand

As for Far Cry 1, I thought it was little more than a tech demo for theFar Cry 3. A little while back I reviewed Far Cry 2, the prequel to this game. Most people disliked Far Cry 2 because of its meh story and realism, but I loved the game for those reasons, and I thought it was definitely worth playing. As for Far Cry 1, I thought it was little more than a tech demo for the first Crysis. Now I have played Far Cry 3, which takes the game's setting away from Africa, and back to the tropical island type of setting from Far Cry 1. However, it still retains most if not all of the open world freedom of Far Cry 2, and gets rid of most of the realism, and provides a better story. So, is this tropical island a paradise that you will spend hours getting lost in, or is Far Cry 2 still the superior Far Cry game? Let's find out. The gameplay of this game is slightly different from its predecessor. Yes, it is still a first-person shooter, and there is still an open world for you to explore, just like the last game. However, this game is slightly different because the game mechanics have been greatly improved. For those of you who were unhappy with the stealth mechanics of Far Cry 2, your prayers have been answered. Stealth is emphasized much more in this game than it was in the last game. It is now much easier to kill enemies quietly when they're not looking. Another improvement this game made on the last one is the inclusion of perks and skill trees. Perks give your character more power, and the more perks you have, the more will be available later on in the game. The skill trees in this game make this game have elements of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout in it, which is always a nice touch, as the perks in both of the former made the games much more enjoyable. The open world has also been improved. There is now much more to do than ever in Far Cry 3. You can assault enemy outposts however you want, help natives on certain quests, and play mini games such as poker and knife throwing. Of course there are also story missions, which have been improved from Far Cry 2, thanks to the game now having a much easier story to follow. Because you can approach this game's missions however you please, the game is much more enjoyable. Stealthy players will find plenty of options to hide in the shadows, and kill enemies. Long range players will be able to use sniper rifles to pick off enemies from a distance. Players who just like to charge in guns blazing will be able to do that too. The AI is also a challenge in this game. The enemies know how to alert allies if you are attacking them, and they also use cover very effectively. This game's AI is among the best I have ever seen in a video game. Even on the easiest difficulty I died several times because of this game's advanced A.I. As for problems with the gameplay, there really aren't very many at all. The only minor gripe I have with the gameplay is that there are a few bugs, but these bugs are few and far between. This game is insanely fun to play no matter how you decide to play it. As for the graphics, I think Crysis has lost its majesty as the best looking PC game I have ever played. This game just barely beats the original Crysis in terms of graphics. Far Cry 3 is a beautiful looking game. Everything in this game is rich with detail, looks very colorful, and looks realistic to boot. The graphics of this game have won my award for the best graphics ever seen in a video game. As for the story, it has also been improved. It may not be as good as some other stories I have seen in video games, but it is still an improvement over Far Cry 2's bland and boring story. You play as a man named Jason Brody, who has to rescue his friends from a band of pirates and mercenaries led by two insane evil men. This time, the premise is good, the characters are well developed, and the plot is smoother and easier to follow than the previous game. The story of this game is fantastic, even though it's not quite as good as other titles. Overall, this game is fantastic. It is a huge improvement over Far Cry 2, as it improved on just about everything that made Far Cry 2 such a great game. I recommend this title to just about anyone who wants to play a video game. Unless of course, they are offended by some of this game's mature content.

    Picked this up along Blood Dragon in the last Steam sale and feck me but this game rocks! The story is great, the world just begs to be explored and the main protaganist is pure insane. A must for any open world gamers.

    Also, make sure to pick up Blood Dragon if you were an 80's and 90's gamer and action film fan.

    Great game, tons of fun. Obviously a late review for a game that's about 10 years old, but this was made back in Ubisoft's heyday, before they became the wokeness / ESG / left-wing lunatic trash pushing company that they are today. :)

    They had innovated a bit on this game and upgraded the graphics significantly along with the takedown mechanics. Game is an absolute blast, highly recommended.

    I really love this game. I've played through the campaign mode twice on different difficulties. I really love the online mode too. I have racked up 70 hours of game play. I would really recommend this game. Sometimes Steam even runs sales on the game which makes it even better!

    Although I liked the fourth part in my own way, and subjectively for me, the third and fourth are in one place according to the interest, atmosphere and study of the open world of the game. But objectively I agree that the third part is the best in the series, since it's story is the strongest and interesting from all the parts of the game.

Rock Island is visually appealing and keeps some of the more repetitive non-plot tasks such as capturing enemy bases and re-enabling radio towers from getting tedious. Rock Island was very satisfying as a setting overall.

    There are several mini-games; hunting, crafting, racing, platforming on poorly maintained radio towers, artifact collecting, and others. These were all fun and challenging, but you should probably expect to try some of them at least a few times. These mini-games are not required but unlock certain top-level skills and weapons.

    Skill progression is very similar to most games of this type, Skyrim for example. Complete quests and missions, gain experience and level up. There are three skill trees, but the mini-games were fun enough that I unlocked all the skills.

    Game-play and level design are both mostly well done. A few missions contain overly finicky victory conditions, and it's easy to fail them due to game mechanics. Here again, Far Cry 3 saves itself by being fun enough that re-trying missions never became tedious. I am deducting one point for the mission "Black Gold", due to a well known and unfixed bug that can cause you to fail. Fortunately longer missions contain checkpoints so you don't have to re-start from square one. Overall the missions were a lot of fun. Black Gold is even very fun, just a little frustrating.

    Gameplay mechanics were well implemented and other than the bug mentioned above, the experience was smooth sailing. Boss fights contain their own set of mechanics which were fun and broke up the repetition of standard combat.

    The story is very well written and executed and is now one of my all-time favorites. Believable and relatable characters, plot twists, great tension, satisfying ending, and most importantly it didn't overstay it's welcome. The game ended at just the right time, and on just the right note for my tastes.

    Sound effects, music, and voice acting were all very well done. Shooting is punchy, vehicle engines sound powerful, and the voice actors really delivered exciting cut scenes.

    I can't really speak to re-playability becasue I don't usually play games more than once. Rather than playing Far Cry 3 again, I will move on to part four or five.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. “Masterpiece”. The first word that comes to my mind when I want to describe the game is “masterpiece”. I am going to be honest with you – at first it can feel like another first-person shooter, without a doubt a great one, but not special one. That was the feeling I had until the last 15 hours of the game (it took me 46 hours to complete the game – not only the main storyline but all the sidequests too (well, almost all)). The game simply gets better by every hour you play. Throughout the walkthrough I was sure I am going to rate the title 9/10 top. In Far Cry 3 I didn’t see the scale and deepness games need in order to be rated 10 out of 10. Something was missing. I didn’t even liked that much the idea of gathering and crafting at first until I literally spent about 7 hours just hunting and crafting myself a bigger syringe kit, wallet, rucksack, whatever. What once was missing was found in the second part of the game - at some point a thought “it is a masterpiece” struck me and haven’t let me go since then.
    For some reason I always considered myself to be a fan of FarCry franchise though the only game I had ever played was FarCry 1 which obviously has barely anything to do with the other games of the series. I remember how unforgivable the original FarCry game was and what amount of stress it was causing me about 10 years ago but nonetheless I loved it. I am not gonna lie – FarCry 3 is a much easier game but nonetheless it didn’t fail to take me back to the good old times when I had to restart the same mission time and time again trying different tactics and implementing different strategies – every Outpost was like a chess game for me where I have to deal with whatever figures that are present on the desk.
    The storyline definitely is the main reason FarCry 3 belongs to one of the best games ever made. In a weird way the changes that happen to Jason Broody’s mentality and persona happen to you as well. Every character you meet is interesting and alive. Though Vaas is the only one who got to mainstream and basically transcended the game, he is not the only one who is worth your attention.
    I have to say a couple of words about the technical side of FarCry 3 – it is gorgeous. Even without great storyline, let it be a simple open world game it still would shine. The island doesn’t look realistic – it looks better than reality itself. It goes beyond realism and brings us a place which very easily can be mistaken with a paradise. Sound design is often a forgotten aspect when players try to describe a game so let’s not repeat this mistake. It is the first game when I was in awe in regards to how detailed the sound is. I will give you one example which really impressed me: as you get out of water you hear water dripping from your wet clothes. And such attention to details is present in everything.
    I could go on and on for a long time about what makes this game great but I think it is time to point out its downsides. For me the game has only one major downside which I would change if I had a chance to (attention: SPOILERS!): the way Jason Broody kills Vaas and Hoys simply doesn’t feel satisfying and “real” (especially Vaas’s killing). It is hard to explain but you expect more from a fight with your main foe. At least they could make it harder.    … Expand

    This game is legit beautiful, the scenery, map itself makes the game 10/10. Its graphics still holds up and is fun gameplay wise though i admit it gets boring late-game. But considering everything this game is perfect.
