The story is cumbersome and boring; the dialogue is dull, wordy, repetitive and uninteresting; the voice acting lacks any real direction - character lines are delivered limply, even by the "big name" actors. Inappropriate casting choices also hamper immersion (the choice of John Doman as Caesar is particularly bizarre).

Bethesda - get better writers and better voice directors. Your game has once again been sabotaged by a lack of quality.

This game is nothing more than an over priced expansion of Fallout 3. The gameplay and graphics are exactly the same, and while there are new weapons, the most useful are the weapons also found in Fallout 3.

SRY but this is what I can spring after playing about 5% of the game. If you succeed to get any further the score might be too low.

Simply loved Fallout 3 - was so immersed. Same thing with New Vegas - however, when walking south from the initial town, NV stops working, and throws me to the desktop. ... and my savegames can not be loaded anymore - hence the low score.

The game genuinely looks terrible for the year it was created in. Mods are required to make it an ok experience but otherwise its pretty bad. The story and locations are well written and it adds a lot to the lore, but the gameplay, guns and combat all feels really clunky.

Great game until you come to find that the game doesn't end as Fallout 3 with the DLCs, where you could continue playing the same player after you finish the main game. Will Bethesda ever patch up the thing, though? I doubt it. One needs only take a look at Bethesda's record of shoddy patching.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very good game but with some terrible crashes. Numerous crashes to desktop that force you to save far more than the actual difficulty of the game requires.

By far the worst bug is one that prevents me from completing the game the way I want to because an NPC will not trigger despite repeatedly reloading and restarting the quest. This is happening after the major patch that was released too.

For fans of the original Fallout games this has some areas that have a similar feel to New Reno which is never a bad thing. There are a lot of decent quests that feel a lot darker than FA3, which is quite frankly how a fallout game should feel.

Also I have had Boone say he will not fight NCR troops then proceed to headshot them when I am not even attacking(I was wearing the Brotherhood of Steel power armour) Although it is not as bad as the Brotherhood troops that ran into a car and died or despawned before entering the building with you in Fallout 3.

I would give this a 9 if it wasn't for a bug that has wasted 40 hours of my play time but making the game unfinishable. Things like this are just not acceptable Bethesda - I always use the latest system drivers and windows updates for windows 7. This will make me seriously question buying another Fallout game.

I played on default difficulty and thought it was mostly a cakewalk. The real fun of the game comes from the journey, the interesting characters and character building. Not as fun if compared to F3. F3 seem to have more substance in terms of the storyline and its sub quests. But FNV is not all bad. I would give it a solid 9 if it wasn't for the horrible in-game bugs. Some of these bugs even render certain side & unmarked quests not completable.

The gunplay is solid and you can choose to talk sneak or fight your way in to various places. You can make friends with certain gangs or just blow everyone to pieces. It looks and sounds amazing and I personally think it was one of the best games of 2010. Overall Fallout New Vegas provides a fun experience and I will be playing it for years to come. I'll Give it 9

Being my first Fallout game, this game truly took me by surprise. I played and finished Oblivion right before this and New Vegas truly kicked me off the stool. I went back to Fallout 3 (am currently playing it) after playing NV and the changes made by Obsidian was very well thought-out and I had a much better experience and immersion with NV than F3. Wonderful game.

Both games crash a lot, usually when you don't want it to crash. Thankfully, there's a mod (CASM) that will automatically save the game periodically so the player doesn't have to replay too much to recover, but it's still annoying. Why can't the developer fix it? Bad points for the developer - you know who you are.

Steam deeply discounts this game from time to time with all the DLCs. Wait for the sale then scoop it up.

This game is one of the best I have ever played. The fact that you can make you own ammo, add mods to you weapons and other stuff like that is amazing. In my opinion it is a massive improvement of fallout 3.

While I love the game for allowing you to 'customize' your character in terms of being a melee/assault/sniper type of character with the weapon customization, as well as the inclusion of the Hard Core mode for added realism, it's still the same Fallout as #3, in that it's not only the exact same game by design, it's extremely buggy and just as crash prone as the original! I can't tell you how many times, regardless of operating system, I was walking along doing my thing when the screen would go black and the 'Fallout:NV has committed an illegal operation' error would come up and screw up everything I was doing! SHAME ON YOU, BETHESDA!!! THIS IS THE VERY REASON I DIDN'T WANT TO BUY THIS GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! My dumb ass fell for the hype... They had FOREVER to solve the problems of Fallout 3 (to which we haven't seen a patch in an eternity), as well as the problems of New Vegas (which they did recently, but introduced new crash issues in the Boomer compound, among other areas), but very little effort was taken to solve any of the glaring issues for both games, and they both suffer the same inherent issue, in that I can't go for so long before my experience is completely crushed because the game decides to crash or do something really stupid. The design of the game is solid in terms of the options it gives the players and the potential immersion it offers, but the bugs and constant crashes will leave you wanting for other games that can hold your attention for longer than when a fly walks across your monitor. Why is it that walking onto a room that has corpses has to have the 'limb splattering' sound when I walk in (not to mention how corpses ragdoll to the ground when you load)? Why is it that when rag doll'd corpses interact with certain areas of the terrain do they suddenly go spastic and start flopping around the screen like sock puppets getting whipped around by an invisible hand? Why do the radio announcers refer to in-game content that hasn't happened yet, like how 3-Dog talks about the re-activated water purifier after I walk out of the vault at the beginning of the game, or how Mr. New Vegas is talking about 'the courier shot in the head that's made a full recovery' mere minutes after seeing the Goodspring's landscape for the first time in a new game?

This game is plagued with problems that were clearly carried over from Fallout 3's engine. Crash-prone, inconsistent and as destructive to the immersion as a land mine during a walk in the park. The improvements in the game can't make up for a game that's completely broken on a programming level. All I can hope for is that the DLC can fix what extremely few patches couldn't, though given from past experience it'll only compound the issue further and infuriate gamers like me further....

New Vegas is a worthy sequel to Fallout 3, a game with it's own unique feel like no other game. The problem is do you like this particular feel For a post-apocalyptic themed game New Vegas is a very lively place. Everywhere you go you find a new location, meet a new NPC or fight new enemies. It almost feels like an atomic war never happened except for burned out ruins covering the land and Geiger counter ticking from time to time. The unique feels largely come from the fact that in this alternate world, when the atomic war happened the world culturally was in the 50s (although technology was much more advanced), and this lead to creation of a strange setting to say at least, full of tremendously absurd and bizarre stuff.
I personally do not like this light-hearted approach and would prefer a more serious approach to the post-apo topic, with a darker and heavier atmosphere (think Metro 2033).

The game offers you a vast world and almost total freedom. You are free to shoot anyone you like, make friends and enemies as you see fit, go anywhere and take anything you want and the world will react to your actions. While this is sounds and definitely is cool, the obvious issue this brought up is the world feeling kinda plastic, not often reacting to your character's actions like it should, which is why you will find yourself sticking to some pre-defined paths more often than not, just to avoid breaking immersion, although if you played F3 you will find here a great improvement over that title.

The Action part of this Action-RPG is not very good. Enemies are mostly braindead, rushing you with meele weapons or just standing in plain sight shooting you. Cover system is non-existant at all. Guns and weapons in general do very little damage decereasing the immersion further it's just not immersive when you have to shoot someone wearing casual clothes 10 times in the chest to kill him.

Here we come to probably the greatest problem of this game, which is the difficulty level.
Even played on very hard the game is just not hard, there isn't any challenge awaiting for you. You faceroll absolutely everything, being a one man army even if you do not pick combat skills, even at lowest levels. It's funny when a squad professional soldiers armed to the teeth warn you to stay away from a certain place because it is full of bandits and they are waiting for reinforcements to take them out, while you can just walk in there on level 1 and stomp them even on very hard of course after you get out they react like nothing has happened, making the world feel shallow and plastic.

Levels are designed terribly, with reused assets everywhere, repeatable locations and cut into cells so small it's often laughable. I know this game is a bit old, but still you see the obnoxious loading screen way too often while travelling through Mojave. If you want to snipe enemies from distance or storm a building full of raiders you can't because the world is basically made of hundreds/thousands of tiny cells, each building floor (sometimes even single rooms) being separated with a loading screen. Wonderful !

The GOOD THING about Fallout:NV is the massive amount of content. There are so many quests and dialogues in this game, so many types of guns, enemies etc. that you won't be bored quickly. There are many ways to solve each quest and obstacle, adding replayability as you can't spec into everything in one game unless you cheat. And there are mods that add even more !

Overall I give this game a good 7/10, spent a good chunk of time in this world, I'm just not into this crazy wacky theme Fallout games have, and this game had many other issues but it was still fun for a long while.
Recommended for Fallout veterans, RPG fans, not really for FPS fans or people who like serious approach.

In fact, considering the alternative (I am thinking about how I miss mass effect 1 dispite the graphics improvements in 2 and 3 that sucked)- I wish that every good or decent game had another go like in fallout new vegas, where the graphic is changed but everything else is improved. You probably already heard of the hardcore mod- but this game have so much more. Right- Puting a faction clothes doesn't feel like hitman, sneaking with a silencer pistol and hacking computers isn't like splintercell (Through the minigame is better) And butchering people at the strip isn't GTA (I admit I didn't try that one), but you have the choise and this is what matter. The reputation-karma system is a giant improvement, this is no longer a fight between good and evil which I hated in fallout 3. The brotherhood of steel is in the gray zone again- not evil and not good, but there are much more factions here- every town has its own opinion of you, every gang, tribe, republic- and its working. The gameplay requires that you skip some missions, because if you want to achieve something beyond money you can't just take every contract you are given (Or maybe you can? I didn't try that one either) The ending is great- There are not only many diffrent "big" decisions but you also need to think what are consequnces of you decisions- The NCR give order, but is this what the people of Primm really need? The brotherhood of steel have good people, but won't killing them now prevent an un-needed blood spilling? Is Mr. house really aiming for better tommorow, or did the power made him a heartless crazy old man? Or maybe things will be better off if I will be the one in control around here? And I admit I don't have the answers to all those questions yet- because I made other decisions
Another big imporvement is the companions- Not only easier to control with the companion wheel but also much less linear. Talking to them, depending on the conversation, can reveal new side missions that improve loyality and change how the game ends, at least for those pals of yours. Some companions have different traits and some have different behaviour- like Boone, who will engage every Legion man he sees without asking or caring about the consiquences. My review is already getting too long for most people to read- so I will sum up and say this is a good game, much improved fromt he previous fall out 3 and I suggest getting it when the price is right. I don't agree about this game replay value- The game is big time consumer and is simply too long to play again for me. And thats exactly why I had to make my decisions, and live with them.
Oh and one more thing, this time is bad- For a game that long, with so much hours in the open, I would much expect a much better and varied music- If this game happens in the 2200+, how come the music is from 1500? IS that really all that survived? I know not every game can afford GTA: Vice city soundtrack and talkshows, but come on, I am craving for water in the middle of nuclear desert- Do I really have to hear this old song AGAIN?

New Vegas, built with the engine of Fallout 3 and recycling a massive amount of themes and elements from all the previous games (almost all the music from Fallout 1 and 2 are reused) and almost every significant faction makes a reappearance. The amount of content is simply staggering; since the game salvages the cancelled Van Buren's (what was to be the original Fallout 3 prior to Bethesda's involvement) ideas and elements.

The gameplay is extremely similar to Fallout 3 due to technical reasons, but the game has been improved and changed in several ways: VATS has been greatly reduced in efficiency (it's harder to hit opponents with it and the 90% damage reduction is now 25%) and many quests grant alternate solutions to those with the correct skills. Even though speech is still the most important skill for easier quest completion, other skills are also factored in, unlike with Fallout 3.

One excellent addition to the Fallout 3 formula is the fact that you must choose a side. You are allowed to defect and betray factions, but in the end, you must pick a side. This gives the game replay value, something that was lacking in Fallout 3 as every quest pretty much had the same goal regardless of your playstyle; only the means to reach the end changed.

But, the negative. The horridly poor animation that plagues all of Bethesda's releases haunts even this Obsidian release. Characters are lifeless robots, animals move in awkward ways and your 3rd person character still cannot strafe - he or she begins a sort of reverse moonwalk if you want to strafe.

I really would want to grade this game a 7 or 9, because all the elements are there. But I can't, and no one should by any means rate this game above 8 for a singular good reason: it is one of the buggiest games in existence. Missing textures, quest glitches, music playing when it shouldn't, sounds missing, constant crashing, rampant save game corruption and so on. Fallout 3 was not a perfect game but at least you could play it (post-patch) without fear of losing your progress forever. Fallout: New Vegas remains in a permanent alpha-state and is a horrifying testament of Obsidian's technical inadequacies. Fallout fans will love New Vegas even with its flaws. As for the rest... better just buy Fallout 3, because it is nearly as good, and without all that ugliness that the rampaging horde of bugs bring along to the party.

    I think it would be wise to summarize Fallout New Vegas in the following way;

The graphics are not an improvement over Fallout 3 at all.

The voice acting and dialogue scripts are so hideous they will make you want to exit the game.

The Quests are quite well done, especially the DLC content which breathes some fresh life into the stale game.

The atmosphere is well done and you can tell that there was a good effort made at trying to immerse the player in the game world.

What I really want to say though, is that this game is quite unspectacular for a Fallout title. What does Fallout mean? It means witty dialogue, Role playing elements, with just the right sprinkle of FPS gameplay that so many of our Asperger's suffering Call of Duty brothers need so badly. However, in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the RPG, atmospheric, and witty dialogue elements have been completely eliminated. Stale voiceovers from people that you can tell don't give a damn about their roles ruin the sense of immersion. One of the most touted new features, the gun mods, really add nothing to the overall grand scheme of things, except allowing the younger audience to feel cool somehow. I mean... really? Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter? Come on now, what is this kind of dialogue? It gets so stale so very fast.

Moving on, the quests are actually well done, giving your character CHOICE for the first time since Fallout 2. It was a BADLY NEEDED element from previous games and left a smile on my face. I loved the quests even if they were very watered down because of the three pathways you could take in the game. This is probably as politically incorrect as American companies will ever get in this generation of sterile mass gaming, so its nice to see a slaver faction like Ceasar's Legion. I liked the Old World Blues setting as well, with clever dialogue and good quests overall. I feel like the DLC's had better quality quests than the main game.

The graphics are unfortunately hideous. This is sadly due to the fact that XBOX 360 graphics are quite old and the system can not handle many characters on the screen at the same time along with so many textures. They really did have to strip down so many areas to make the game Xbox compatible. Freeside had to be divided into two areas, which is pathetic. I mean, Vegas itself had to be divided into two areas, which is even more disturbing. There is an inexplicable fence that completely and utterly breaks all immersion once you see it. Another thing which irked me so much was this focus on the city of New Vegas itself. I mean, you've got this itch to go and see the place that everyone touts as the last untouched city on earth, and you can see it from a long distance as well. It shines in the night time and it is very alluring to wary travelers in the Mojave. However, once you do get to the city, words can not describe how underwhelming it is. The architecture is very bland, there are limited characters and NPC's. It feels so rushed and it is very disapointing. I would describe it kind of like how the Imperial City felt when I was playing Oblivion so many years ago, but I digress.

The guns, as expected, are really well done and with the help of the modding community this game has a larger arsenal than any of the biggest FPS titles out there, rivaled only by battlefield 3, which really doesn't mean anything at all for a so called Role Playing Game. This doesn't mean that there are no RPG elements here, there are many many more than in Fallout 3 and the system I do appreciate. I mean, they really did a good job integrating perks and traits to make your character feel more unique than the generic Caucasian male that most folks will be playing as. Overall, I would give this game a fair 7.0 on the scale. I wish I could give it more because it is a Fallout title, and I know that Obsidian gave it their all to produce something that is interesting on such a terrible gaming engine and for such a terrible piece of hardware like the 360, but you still cannot be excused because it is what it is. This is a good game that gets rather stale, feels stale compared to Fallout 3 (You will not notice many graphical differences, even the useless clutter items are mostly the same), but has many of the beloved classical rpg elements like traits, perks, gun mods (if they are rpg traits), CHOICE in which side to take on many matters, which enemies to make, which friends to make. But again and again, the horrific dialogue will have you turning the volume down and looking around to make sure no one is watching you listen to such cheesy dialogue as this game has. It is that shamefully written.

Overall, once again, a 7.0 worth checking out for one play through.

Mainly, the worst problems with it are the bugs, the console versions of the game are definitely more glitched out and you repeatedly run into invisible walls, failed animations and errors that can completely take out a good few minutes of your time. But otherwise, these are sparse and do not fully detract from the experience of Fallout.

Gameplay wise, Fallout doesn't differ too much from Fallout 3 at surface level, but there are some key changes to the gameplay that, in my opinion, make it better. Firstly, skill checks are implemented, instead of having a dodgy percentage system for speech, you now need to have a certain requisite, whether you meet or fail the requirement makes your playthrough unique, and immerses you further into the world of post-apocalyptic Nevada. Another really interesting concept is Hardcore mode, which gives the game a real edge and turns it more into a survival game, as you are forced to take into consideration heavier loads, dehydration, starvation and tiredness, I'd recommend that you turn on Hardcore mode, as you can always turn it off if you feel frustrated about the dehydration element to it. Finally, companions are far easier to manage, the companion wheel really allows you to make more strategic decisions with the companions, while it can seem a little fiddly, compared to opening up a talk box all the time it can cut corners very quickly, it definitely makes using companions more worthwhile.

However, while gameplay is clearly important, it is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me to say that F:NV really blows Fallout 3 out of the water with it's writing. Fallout New Vegas is heavily faithful to the original two games, but isn't afraid to introduce it to new boundaries, the NCR makes a welcome return, but adding Caesar's Legion as the opposing force really takes the karma system in ways that Bethesda could only dream about. Fallout 3 was very much a battle between good and evil, New Vegas is far more complex than that, do you side with the bureaucratic NCR, who want to take over everything yet be unable to pledge their promises? Or the more aggressive and ruthless, but disciplined Legion? Or maybe you decide to go all out against them by yourself or as the pawn of Mr House, the mysterious baron of New Vegas? The multiple depths, pathways and choices you make really matter in New Vegas, making it a far more rewarding experience than Fallout 3. If you look at the amount of quests both games offer, as well as the diversity of voice actors, dialogue, factions, characters, enemies, weapons and overall content, you realize that Fallout 3 gets utterly trumped. While some argue that they prefer the atmosphere and location of Washington DC over the Nevada desert. I genuinely prefer the atmosphere of Nevada. (Irrelevant note, but Nevada even has vegetation! A desert in the middle of nowhere has more life in it than the former capital city of the US!) Another, final element as to why this game is better is because of the humour overall. Obsidian really captured the dark, cynical but also bizarre humour of the original fallout games, one that really sticks with me is a super mutant who comes every night to annihilate a farmer's brahmin with a minigun because he got angry about them making noise while he was asleep.

Overall, while Fallout 3 is a decent game, New Vegas is far superior. Perhaps I am being overly generous with my score, as a game should really be built on the strength of it's gameplay and the gameplay is not strong enough on its own. But this makes me only hope that we can get another 'real' fallout game.

As you can see (at least for me) the bad far out weighs the good. I feel that NV is a very overrated fallout game. Fallout 3 is much better. Obsidian (and with all due respect) looks as if they just copied a lot of stuff from FO3. So yeah. Not a horrible game, but certainly not a great game, and surely not up to par with FO2 and FO3. Again, a very overrated game. I'll give it a 7, because although I didn't like it as much as the previous titles, it's alright. But at least for now, FO3 still rules the series.

I found myself more addicted to New Vegas as time went by. I ended doing about 5 solid playthroughs-to see different endings and outcomes from the choices I made. There are also a lot more quests and characters to interact with. Much more lively than Fallout 3 and much more to do.

Gameplay improvements include the companion wheel, hardcore mode, being able to aim down the sights, return of the faction system (which is put into full gears and used perfectly). NV also contains elements of Van Buren and is more connected to the original two Fallouts.

There are two big gripes though. One would be the game world. As unique and interesting a post apocalyptic Las Vegas sounds, it is not executed very well. Largely due to engine limitations, Vegas is small and a bit underwhelming in size, and the Mojave Wasteland is largely open desert and feels more like a Frontier than anything. Kind of like Fallout 2's wasteland. The second is obvious, the bugs and glitches. There are a lot. I've encountered 1 game breaking glitch and many crashes, character bugs and freezes.

New Vegas is still largely an ambitious RPG, having almost everything be based on the choices you make. Combine that with the amount of things to do and people to interact with, you'll find yourself thoroughly engrossed in this game

What makes this game superior to Fallout 3?
Fallout 3, while in itself a fun, sandbox roleplaying game, doesn't match up to New Vegas. New Vegas is a refinement of the formula found in Fallout 3. For starters, the writing has been significantly tightened up much more interesting, believable and quirky characters exist along with a vastly improved main story while it's still nothing incredible, it's still undoubtedly superior to the lackluster plot line found in Fallout 3.
As said before, by no means is Fallout 3 a bad game. By rating New Vegas so highly in comparison, it's simply a testament to what great fun New Vegas is. It's quite understandable that this game isn't for everyone. Though I thoroughly believe most people will find the unique charm to the game alluring as they explore what remains of Nevada and Las Vegas. The Fallout franchise once again creates a subliminal post-apocalyptic atmosphere, mixed in with surreal science fiction elements that creates an experience quite like no other (except in other Fallout games).
To me, Fallout 3 didn't have any particularly charismatic NPCs to deal with. In New Vegas, you encounter an array of intriguing individuals, from the enigmatic Mr House to the brutal Caesar and his Legion, along with other major and minor characters along the way such as Benny, Jason Bright and recurring super mutant Marcus. All of these characters prove to be highly interactive and interesting to talk to, with their at times ambitious yet absurd goals and developed backgrounds.
To summarise New Vegas in one word, I would choose choice. Quite literally every NPC in New Vegas is eligible to be killed quite unlike Skyrim, where I found it more common that the NPC would be invincible rather than someone I could actually defeat. You might be wondering what the big deal is that you can kill characters in a video game. The truth is, New Vegas does an excellent job at building up characters, from how it goads you to hate Benny, or to fear Caesar leading to something spectacular when you get the opportunity to show these characters what you think of them not that this is a game all about killing, of course. In fact, conversation and interaction often leads to their often misunderstood motives being explained to you, forcing something of a morale dilemma as you try to decide who to vouch for in the barren wastelands.
Other than that, there almost isn't a single quest where two to four alternatives aren't presented to you to go about dealing with it. As an example, I'll use likely the first real quest you encounter, 'Ghost Town Gunfight'. The quaint village of Goodsprings is under attack by bandits. The obvious choice for most people would be to defend it but how to go about doing that? You can speak to the various villagers for support, Doc Mitchell offering you medical supplies, or you can convince Trudy to rouse up more townspeople to aid you in the fight. Or how about you simply kill Joe Cobb, the leader of the bandits' (or 'Powder Gangers' as they're known) before he can lead the assault?
However, the choice doesn't end there. You can opt to go and help Joe Cobb instead leading to you pillaging the town alongside his thug-like allies. After killing everyone in Goodsprings, you can go to where the Powder Gangers have holed up and engage in an entire quest chain where you help the Powder Gangers in their anti-NCR activities. All from just a single quest; there being dozens of quests to do. The main story itself has at least four separate factions you can join (one being yourself), with entirely different quest chains along the way.
If RPGs in general interest you, if the apocalypse interests you or heck simply just good games interest you, then definitely give New Vegas a spin. You may not fully grasp the appeal at first, but after you realise just how much is available to you to do, all of it being fully developed and interesting, it's a game you can't stop playing until you've explored every nook and cranny.

Making decent sequels for successful games isn't easy. Sequel should pay some kind of respect to original game, but also offer new content and be self-contained enough to not feel like bunch of recycled ideas. New vegas manages to find this balance nicely. Basically you get more of the same Fallout goodness and it still feels fresh enough to keep you interested.

New feature worth mentioning is the faction system, where you gain reputation (good, bad or mixed) based on your actions. Different groups will react differently to you, based on your past actions towards them. Every group will also have their own conflicting agendas and it can be hard to try please them all. I think the system worked quite nicely and added some depth to the game and character interactions.

Only major shortcoming are the DLCs which pretty much suck. I guess 'Old world blues' was near decent, but interrupting the main plot for ~10 hours to do something completely unrelated just didn't work for me. Also honorable mention to 'Lonesome road' which was boring as hell, but at least you could quit playing it without completing the whole DLC.

I would have given this game a 9/10 but the bugs and not a lot of interesting side quests especially when you r with the ncr oh and the map is smaller then fallout 3's, but in general fallout new vegas is good game and still kicks skyrim's ass still i recommend it and by the game now and get mods and all the dlcs they'll make this game fun as hell

At first I'm very skeptical about this game. Many people say it's buggy like hell. But in my experience, which means 100+ hours of gameplay with all DLCs, the game got bugs only 2-3 times (like getting stuck on the rocky surface). And it crashes a lot less than FO3.

Aside from those technical issues and some quirky combat moment, this game is top notch. High role-playing element, many addition to combat (like special attack), a lot of quests with choices, great story that get you involved and really feel like you are a character living and making every decision that will effect the outcome which might be a little change of other characters or a whole story-path.

I was to give it 8 but there is one thing that make me raise it to 10. It is the ending on my first playthrough. It's very impressive. I feel like all my 100+ hours playing this game really matter. Not only the main story ending some of DLCs endings are also great heartwarming, awesome or sad depend on how you complete it

One can only rejoice for Obsidian: they take a big project, a series of output almost the same level, delivering a bit of fun to fans, much more fans of role-playing games, they create their Fallout 3 is better but the official did not change.

I enjoyed this but not as much as Fallout 3. It’s fun, immersive, interesting story, and very well made overall but if you’ve played Fallout 3 it feels like more of the same so it’s missing that “new” factor. Also, I do not like how they nerfed the VATS system. Killing baddies with VATS in F3 never got old for me and I miss all the gratuitous slo-mo deaths. You have to treat New Vegas a lot more like a standard FPS since there is no perk to instantly refill your AP after making a kill and VATS is generally much less useful besides.

Aside from those two points, though, excellent game.

Only buy this game if you like questing, exploration, retro-futurism and classic western music. I liked Fallout 3, but was frustrated by the lack of imagination in the world architecture, and banality of the quests. If you like more of a open world feel, as I do, this is might be the game to get of the two. There are quite a few minor bugs throughout (especially in Old World Blues DLC), but not any game breakers. You will have to reload here or there, and the graphics are dated (they date back to at least 2007). If you are a level capper, but don't want to do all the DLC, you will be frustrated, as you probably will have to depopulate the world significantly to reach level cap. The mainline story is easy to finish even on hardcore mode, but if approached as an exploration rpg it is a fun game. If you do not enjoy exploring or doing side quests then this is not the game for you. Also, this game is best played in first-person mode and with a game controller (I prefer XBOX 360). It is a console port, but playable. The menu is intentionally bad (in the vein of retro-futurism). Think BASIC meets plasma/laser weapons. Glass soda bottles and type writers meets holo-projectors (Dead Money DLC). It's a wacky game world but it's worth giving a look. Expand

It'd be nice if you were a bit more daring in making changes, but at least this way I don't have to talk about how amazing 3 was and how New Vegas it up. Just different enough for you to play it 4 more times after having played Fallout3 5 times Expand

Fallout: New Vegas looks like an Add On to Fallout 3, but that should not mean, that it's a copy of its forerunner. It scores with an great atmosphere, nice story and all the typical and awesome Fallout features.
