another bad thing about this game was that you could not be a thief . everytime I tried to steal things and do some stealth things the game just punished me with that stupid Karma system.
Fallout new vegas just dose not give players the freedom to be anything they want but it forces them to be a nice kind gun fighter.

This is the best modern Fallout game. Absolutely excellent RPG. The writing is great, your choices feel impactful on the story and the world. Also tons of mods to play with PC. Gets a top score from me in spite of it's technical short comings.

That's not to say there isn't a lot of creativity on display here, its just that sometimes quests can be kind of meh. I will keep this very short; There are bugs and slow downs on older systems. Atmosphere. Atmosphere never changes, and it's everywhere in Fallout: New Vegas. The game literally drips with ambiance, clever plots, and interesting characters. In many ways, F:NV is the sequel that FO3 should have been, with much tighter writing and plenty of the series' trademark black humor. I've been continually impressed with the actual fun factor of the game. There are no cookie cutter quests, no boring grinds. Every task is unique. Also, the sheer extremism of some of the factions can provoke a visceral reaction. You'll understand what I mean after a few brushes with the men in skirts. This is a true RPG with plenty of meat to its bones, but also a heavily tactical shooter that demands specialization and punishes hesitation. In short, the gameplay absolutely rocks. So why isn't it a ten? A handful of reasons, most of them regarding the aging Gamebryo engine. To note, the Facegen and DirectX problems that plagued earlier versions have finally been fixed, and the majority of players can now have a smooth Wasteland experience! Kudos to Bethesda, although they should have taken care of these issues pre-release.

Loading stutters will still happen, even on high end machines. AI behavior can be downright goofy (sometimes intentionally). The graphics are noticeably dated, although still pretty. There isn't a great deal of musical variety on the radios, although incredible mods like CONELRAD and Existence 2.0 rectify this situation quite nicely. There are a whole host of minor flaws and little bugs that mar the experience. Despite this, it is an amazing game and well worth the caps... err... cash.

The only reason I would not recommend this is if you don't like the post-apocalyptic genre in general or the Fallout series in particular. Otherwise, pony up and get ready for Vegas.

Ah, Fallout. A wonderful world, and always great to return to. This time around, with Obsidian developing it, things are looking up. For one, the story is better. You can now go around and get the worst karma, but as long as members of same faction don't know about it, then they will simply treat you the same. Its very nice, although it seems like you can quickly get a bad reputation with any faction very quickly, and will hopefully be fixed in future patches. Weapon mods are also in, however so far they don't seem to make a huge difference. The real winner for this game is the sheer amount of stuff packed into this world. So many quests, side quests, choices, companions, minigames, and they all seem to have different objectives. Another wonderful aspect is while violence is always acceptable, there are a lot more choices for dialogue, sneaking, and alternative methods to finish quests that, in Fallout 3, would probably end in a bloody shootout. One of the best games of the year, in my opinion, and deserves RPG of the Year, if not Game of the Year. Expand

The urban environment of Fallout 3 also works better, seems to communicate better the post-apocalyptic vision. Having said that, there are good additions to new vegas such as the faction system, better voice acting, etc. It is still a very good game, with a good story, good character, graphics, etc. Most criticisms that can be made of it, asides from the ridiculous number of bugs, only tell us that fallout new vegas is not quite as great as Fallout 3. When I heard that Obsidian Entertainment (comprised out of most of the people behind Fallout 2 and some of the developers of the original Fallout) I got giddy with excitement. Then when I realized that it will by published by Bethesda and using their engine I was sad. The reason is that Bethesda are your typical publisher, they don't care about games as works of art, just as products to be sold, this is reflected in both the horrendous Fallout 3, which not only dumbed down Fallout and brought in a load of mouthbreathing amoebas calling themselves "fallout fans" yet they have only played Fallout 3 which stands as the worst game in the franchise.
Regardless, New Vegas was released, it was a buggy mess on release, this is entirely Bethesda's fault, because it was their end of the contract to handle QA and testing, they failed to deliver on that, while simultaneously giving Obsidian only 18 months to develop a RPG, that's downright satanic.
But what about the game itself?
Well, beneath the veneer of fecal matter that is Gamebryo there is an incredibly solid RPG, with varied gameplay, non-linear quests, proper RPG mechanics (unlike Fallout 3), extremely detailed world which fits exactly with the lore of Fallout 1 and 2 (made by the same people after all), which offered interesting moral dilemmas and respected the player enough to not dilute itself into a stupid binary morality children's book that dares to call itself Fallout.
If you liked Fallout 1 and 2, then New Vegas will appeal to you, maybe not exactly from a gameplay perspective, it is using that terrible engine made by Bethesda after all, but it's plot, quests, characters, locations, world and writing are all outstanding and some of the best the industry has seen to date.

If you liked Fallout 1 or Fallout 2, you probably hated Fallout 3's hackneyed dialogue writing, awful plot, cookie-cutter characters etc. and expect to hate New Vegas because it'll be more of the same. I know *exactly* what that is like. Now that I've completed the game, though, I may definitively state - FNV is *not* more of Fallout 3. This game is what fans of the real Fallout games have been waiting for. The game is a big fat diamond covered in **** Most of the **** is Bethesda's perennially buggy engine, topped with a generous helping of rushed-release-belying content bugs. Extra stink is added in the form of very inconsistent voice acting - some is brilliant (Primm Slim, Benny), while some is inexcusably bad, with cases of actors clearly not understanding the semantics of the line they're reading, or obviously-Caucasian characters having obviously-African-American voice actors and vice versa. I began to dread encountering a similar mix-up but with the genders reversed; thankfully I never did.

All that said, I don't think I'd turn down a diamond covered in **** if it were offered to me just because it was covered in **** and neither should you. The game is visually limited to reusing a lot of Bethesda content, but all the new art was clearly made by people who understand what the Fallout aesthetic is supposed to be like. FNV's dialogue hearkens back to the games that made the series great, exposing Fallout 3's writers for the intellectual midgets they are, and the game's plotting is compelling (for an epic hero story, which all modern RPG's seemingly must be) and flows well. You will not be left asking yourself why an incredibly obvious solution to a problem was not possible in the game; the game's factions range from darkly humorous to just dark, but they (and their actions) all make sense in context. The game allows actual choice (not merely the illusion thereof) in the player's approaches to problem-solving, and does not exhibit Press Blue To Win Syndrome. For those who didn't play Mass Effect 2, what I mean to say is that many choices have real consequences in that they are mutually exclusive - you cannot consistently have your cake and eat it too.

Fallout new vegas is a good game, basically if you loved fallout 3, you're getting more of that game with a vegas theme instead. A few good additions were added to, like weapon mods and companions.

Not a single character has more than 1 character trait. One dimensional and flat every character could be summed up with a single sentence. Their motivations are straightforward at best, cliche at worst. The story is boring and fails to get your attention. It is a story you can easily tell was made by people who did not care about what they were making akin to the Minions movie or the Emoji movie. People who needed a story and undoubtedly wrote it in an afternoon. The studio needed a story rather than someone having a story to tell.

So if not for the story, what reason is there to play? That’s a question I sought to answer and failed. The fighting is bland and unserviceable. The enemies rarely respond to their environment instead opting to either stand as idle sims with their rifles or run to you shooting you until either you or them run out of health.

So if not for the gunplay or the story what’s the reason to play? Well considering those are the only things in the game that were given any attention, there’s really nothing to do. This game is easily the greatest disappointment in gaming. I genuinely had a better time with fallout 76 and Tactics. Do yourself a favor and just read the story summary on Wikipedia. I’ll genuinely say that would at least be more enjoyable as you wouldn’t have had to waste time on this godforsaken game.

Oh pib-boy. What a mess in gameplay and story-telling.

Invisible walls everywhere, artificial placed rocks and unclimbable "mountains" followed by places that are bigger than an airport but filled with pure nothing.

I loved Fallout 3! Although it had its flaws (dated graphics, bugs and way too easy), it was a milestone in gaming (and for all the Fallout-Fans) and the instinct to discover and scavenge a large world!

But somehow Fallout new Vegas managed to feel so dry and empty like beeing stranded in a desert. You will encounter so few gunfights, that you'll wish you could just raid camps and all the enemy stations.
    But you can't.
I was asking myself all the time:
"Why the hell am I scavenging all that ammunition and bottlecaps when there are so few enemies you can pump full of led?"

After 10 hours of time-consuming navigation I caught myself trying to rush through the story, only for the hope of some big scale battles. But after at least 25 Hours arriving and leaving Vegas I gave up.

Prepare to spent more time walking, and walking and walking instead of meeting interesting places or people.

Don't get me wrong: You CAN find at least 3 interesting places. They will suck you in with a dark and spooky atmosphere. I won't spoil it, but New Vegas isn't one of them.
Neither is it a surprise you'll arrive there nor is it a really spectacular place.
Most People there will tell you some generic gibberish and the quests in there are so ... meaningless.

Most of the Quests are annoying chores that let you scout empty places for hours only to find out that at least one skill is insufficient to complete it (mostly your speech-skill!).

Then there are so many illogical design-flaws that pop up randomly and destroy all imersion.
-Many doors that are just painted textures and can't be opened.
-The flaw in stealing from bad guys (why does the game randomly punish my karma when I rob the psycho bad guys?!).
    - you meet some high-ranked guys for the faction you work, but they don't have any quest to give you!
    - You don't have any impact on the lazy written "War" of the different factions!
Noone will say any word to you beside their random gibberish!
    - doors and gates that are closed until you progress the main"story", or more: Keep yourself squeezing the path the game has chosen for you.

This game only left wasted 40 hours and a sore forehead from all the facepalming.

This may be an overused sentence in rating games, but this feels really like an overpriced DLC or even mod for Fallout 3.
Don't buy it and wait for Fallout 4!

FNV had some big shoes to fill after Fallout 3 was such a success, but does it accomplish this?

    Yes and No.

FNV has some interesting game play tweaks to make on the framework of F3, but a lot of them don't end up being as useful as you'd they they would be. Weapon modifications, different ammo types, cooking, and gambling; Are just a few of the many different things Obsidian adds to FNV, along with reviving some old mechanics from the original Fallout games.

    Features:
One of the first things to hit you in the face(Not just bullets)is the addition of a hardcore mode in which you'll need to feed your character, have them sleep, and what not. This is a very cool idea in theory, and if you are a player that loves flavor in games, or just wants their games to be as realistic as humanly possible then Hardcore Mode is just for you. For the rest of us there are some problems with the system that make it feel a bit incomplete. Towards beginning of the game, if you are playing Hardcore Mode, it's very hard to find liquid and cap to purchase this liquid, as merchants do run out quite often of water, and detrimental liquids are a plenty. This lead my character to steal a lot of liquid, which then made my character evil or something. At first I was reminded of being an evil character from F3 and the evil things people would say to you, or the gifts they would occasionally give me when my character was good. This is not the case in FNV, as karma plays almost no role, instead people opinions of you are replaced by their Factions feeling towards you.(We will get to factions later.) In Hardcore Mode the required resting of you character also feels like more a chore than anything else. I would find myself in the game wandering across a large open desert, no sights or sounds except the large monsters surrounding, and my character suddenly was reminded that no sleeping was bad. There is ton of ground around my character, why not just lay down and rest on the ground, why is a bed required. The Weapon Modifications in the game are interesting but any of the big fun guns don't have any worth while mods anyways. Ammunition type in FNV is required as there are many foe who simply don't take damage if you don't use Armor Piercing ammo, which again is cool is concept but fails in execution. Quests:
Unlike F3 where you could scorn the story quests and finish dozens of other quests before anything was required, FNV has tons more story quests coming from everywhere, and each one involves factions. The factions are again a good concept but act as more of a hindrance to the game in the later levels. Some times helping one faction to advance the story makes another factions hate you to the point of killing them on sight. This is because actions towards specific factions influence their opinion of you, from happy, to non-helping, to shoot you on sight. Which makes completing some quests impossible when you accidentally screwed over a certain faction earlier, meaning you will have to give up on that quest or start the game over, as there are very few people who will even give you quests to help increase your reputation with the faction if you have killed one or two members of the faction.

    Story:
The over all story for FNV isn't as much a story as a culmination of events that you know are going to happen from the first 10 minutes of the game. This major event is going to happen regardless of what you do, and you basicly pick a side, do some prep work, and BAM the game is done. The major problem with F3 out of the box was that the last quest in the game finished it, and you couldn't continue to play after it. FNV for some god awful reason didn't fix this and did the same damn thing.

Whats good about the game you may ask? A lot. Everything that you liked from F3 is in this game, cool side quests, pop culture references, and more. They also include gambling and other fun mini games to occupy your time. FNV knew what F3 did right, and copied it almost exactly, but what they should have focused on was just fixing all the problems with F3 and then making a new story.

FNV is a good game, no, it's a great game, it just has some big let downs and to top it all off, the game is a little bit glitchy. I didn't encounter my first glitch until almost 15 hours in, but it was not just a game freeze, it froze my entire computer, after one quick restart, I was back in action. I'm now about 45 hours into the game, and I've only encountered maybe 4 game ending glitches, which really isn't that bad, just save often. The game is good enough to warrent a player look past the glitches, because the game play really is that good.

    Pros:
    New Weapons, Enemies, Perks
A much more Varied and Interesting Wasteland
Much less stiff dialogue from NPC's
New Game play modes and effects.

    Cons:
    Unoriginal Story
    Much less open world
Lot of new features don't pan out
    Glitches

The environment is beautiful to look at, despite being in a post-apocalyptic world. Fallout 3 you were left looking at subways and rubble of the Washington D.C. area, while in New Vegas you get to see the Mojave, a much more beautiful place. The game starts in the town of Goodsprings, where the securitron Victor, a robot with a cowboy personality, digs you up in what should have been your grave. Then it's time to do the character creation and the tutorial. The best part about this is how much shorter the whole process is, and the fact that you can skip around half of it.

One of the best things Obsidian did with New Vegas (yes, Obsidian developed this game, Bethesda only published it) was what they did with the karma system. In Fallout 3, karma was a pretty big thing. Certain people will only help you if you have good or bad karma. This doesn't make sense. Fallout takes places in a post-apocalyptic world. It doesn't make sense that everything would be Black and White. Obsidian improves on this by introducing a new system - Reputation. If you help one faction, you will receive discounts in that town, or from that faction. Even helping one faction will make another faction hate you, most of the time. If you are hated by a faction, they will shoot you on site and even go as far as sending assassin's to kill you.

New Vegas is an RPG more than an FPS. The number of actual choices you have in the game is vastly improved over Fallout 3. More speech checks, using your high strength to intimidate, finishing a quest by using high Science, Medicine, and even Barter skills. The countless references to Fallout 1 and 2 really makes me think of this game as the true Fallout 3. The sheer fact you can do a non-lethal play through - going through the game without killing a single person, is very impressive.

My one complaint with the game is the main quest. The first time I played through it I was excited at all turns of the quests, pondering on who to side with, thinking of all the consequences. Then I did my second play through and found out that the main quest, despite having 4 factions to side with, is really just copy pasted. You do the same thing in the later part of the main quest, having to go to lesser factions and get them on your side. That is what prevents New Vegas from having a score of 10.

The mods are a really fun part of the game. I highly suggest you do a vanilla play through, which is using no mods. Then go back a second time and mod it to hell and back. While the mods are good and highly varied, I'm not counting them as part of the score, seeing as it is purely optional and not available to PS3/360 users.

If you want an RPG with guns, get New Vegas. If you want a shooter with RPG elements, get Fallout 3 or Mass Effect 2. It's as simple as that.

These wonderful people fill our games with neat things like choice and consequence, character traits and abilities that matter, quest design with branching paths, intelligent world building, (no one's living on top of a bomb here, folks!) and all that stuff that seems to be a complete mystery to you guys over at Bethesda! If I had to say it has one major flaw it is the terrible engine you guys created that it runs on, because, like your game design/writing/world building/balance, it's complete and total garbage.

If we were going on gameplay alone, this would easily get an 8 or even a 9, but there are huge problems.

    Positives

    1. The gameplay is spectacular. You feel powerful once you get to levelling up and there are few builds that make it virtually impossible to complete

    2. I like the soundtrack selection this time around. A nice mix of what you'd expect from Fallout 3 with a western tinge. Nice.

    3. Voice acting is mostly good (except Matthew Perry as Benny, who seems to be incapable of emoting)

    4. The story is one of the strongest in a Bethesda published game, bolstered by the undeniable writing talent of the Obsidian team

    Now for negatives

    1. For their writing talent, Obsidian doesn't seem to have good QA. Their games always seem to have major bugs and this game is NO exception. characters randomly disappear, objectives sometimes point the wrong way, saving too much freezes the game (a real problem in an RPG) and the game at times just feels incomplete. It's hard to recommend a game like this when the game is so buggy. And I know there's fan patches and unofficial mods, but I shouldn't have to tell you "You can play this but oh you need to download a mod made by a fan"

    2. Some of the DLC just straight up sucks. Lonesome Road and Old World Blues are awesome, don't get me wrong. Gun Runner's Arsenal just seems like stuff they had to cut at first to meet deadline. Honest Hearts has a good premise but is kind of boring. And Dead Money? F that one. Here's an idea: Take a game series noted for it's open-world and make you go through a linear pseudo-stealth mission to teach you about "the evils of greed".

It's flawed, so if you don't like your games bugged out, avoid it, but otherwise, I'd still give it a try.

One of my Favourite games. It still isn't as good as Fallout 3 but still a 9. I would give it 10 if it wasn't buggy. It has great missions, very detailed backstory to all the missions. The 2 big let downs were the bugs and the DLC. The DLC wasnt very interesting and that was the big let down to the game. Would recommend. Only buy the DLC if on sale. It is a must have game.

I didn't see as many major improvements over Fallout 3 here as I would have liked, the main story was definitely fun to follow, and an increase in length of the optional stories made them more fun to follow.

    Pros:
    -More thrilling plot: (revenge)
    -Better side quests.
-More beautiful and less restrictive environment (sandbox- literally the desert).

    Cons:
-Buggy and choppy as can be.
-Poor ass inventory management. OMG it is awful. There is too much crap to carry. the player is not left with much sense of what is useful to keep with them.
-Some armored enemies are bullet / laser / grenade sponges. It takes too long to defeat such enemy AI even while targeting the models head.
-Only the combat perks are useful. Just forget all builds except the combat intensive builds. No use for the survivalist where the desert is just still punishing. (dehydration and not way around it)
-Poor main plot quest narrative. Player rarely experiences the primary plot throughout the game.
-All the mods that are available and I cannot get a single one to function without crashing the game. I've gone through all the directions to install and they all bug the game out to where it crashes (steam version).

I've patched, tweaked, etc. and I just can't get those save games to load again (the backups also don't work)...if I'd know this before I could probably have just replayed the same bits over again instead of trying to fix it but now I'm afraid to commit any more time to this with the same problem repeating itself later on. Quite frankly I'm going to try and get my money back for this bug infested excuse of a release.

A piss poor PC port using a dated engine, bringing nothing new to the table; FTW example of how to milk a franchise without improving the game. If you MUST buy it, expect bugs, crashes, graphic instabilities galore.

I keep coming back to it purely because people keep raving about it, and I keep thinking, based on that, that there has to be something I’m missing. There has to be some quality in it I’m just not getting. Now I think I can safely judge why people go out of their way to claim that it’s good: They WANT it to be good. They can see that this is the shell of a great game. But that is the big problem. It’s just a shell, hollow inside when you look inside.

New Vegas is a complete developmental screwup. Everything that is important to the primary/important content, the factions and New Vegas and the plot, was stupidly deprioritized in favor of stuffing the game with frivolous irrelevant sidequests. It’s hard to process just how bad the content prioritization and presentation is. The making of easily cut content like the Boomers, Thorn, Jacobstown, rocket ghouls, etc, came at the cost of desperately needed faction quests and fleshing out. The entire main questline is padded with these sidequests to stretch it out, only ending up emphasizing how little you connect or get involved with the character and the factions. The Faction “system” is really just deciding which questgiver you want to receive your nearly identical selection of mandatory sidequests from. The reputation system is basically pointless, rarely amounting to anything other then NPC banter.

People claim the writing is great, I found it dull and uninspired. The dialogue options are bland and soulless, clearly designed for a blank slate character and not one with actual personality. NPC quality varys greatly but tend to suffer from directionless voice acting. I’ve heard characters talk about their squadmates being raped in the same tone they use to complain about patrolling the Mojave. Not even kidding. The writing in the DLCs is pretty weak to boot, with Old World Blues actually being surprisingly involving and funny to boot while Lonesome Road may have the most incompetent, full of crap, and definitionally pretentious writing I’ve even seen in a RPG, outside of a Mass Effect sequel. Pains me to think one of Planescape:Torment’s writers was involved in that dreck.

The world map is awfully designed, offering no incentive to explore what is ultimately a linear doughnut dotted with invisible walls, uninteresting and unrewarding locations, NO random encounters, and amateurly placed blatant progression Many things that worked fine in the previous game, like the radio and VATS, were and still are broken and glitchy. While I liked how there were more skill/stat checks, most of the other added features like ammo types (which were bugged at launch. Pretty sure they were bugged in the first two Fallouts too. How do you not learn how to program that in twenty years?) are easily forgotten. And I don’t think I need to bring out how buggy it is. Suffice to say the public had made it clear that it is utter unacceptable to ship a game with this amount of game-breaking and save-wiping glitches.

The sad thing is that it’s clear that this game could have been good, even great, if it had been developed properly. And it’s even sadder that people feel the need to overrate it based on the standard of games this developer made twenty years ago, or worse based on what the game COULD have been like rather then what it IS. It doesn’t hold up to other RPGs. It doesn’t even hold up to other Obsidian games. New Vegas is, sadly, a weak unfulfilling game and a weak unfulfilling RPG.

Also, the game is extremely buggy. Calling out the map too frequently may result in a black screen of crash. Loading to a new map can also cause random crash. The scripted events are the worse I have seen in the life, a crash can even occur when a NPC is supposed to leave the building by script.

This game is indeed an elder scroll with fallout theme, with an extremely large map including lots of waste land, which serves no value to either plot or adventure. The game is made just like a survival game rather than the good old epic classic RPG game, completely deviating from the ideas of Fallout.

Simply copying the VATS from a tactical game to a FPS game won't work. It is just plain boring when using that ability in FPS, slowing down the pace too much.

At last, some more polishing should be done to the UI. No one wants to watch an inventory item menu flooded with words only, even Fallout 1 and 2 have icons associated with the items. What a great mess and disaster to look at the menu when you have lots of items.

The main quest offers good freedom of choice, but otherwise quests are mostly quantity over quality – a hallmark of Bethesda. Some of the characters were entertaining though, and voice acting is fairly good. Character leveling and perks are also quite well done.
The interface looks cool but is a total pain to use. There are no keyboard hotkeys, which means switching weapons or healing requires browsing through the full menu each time!
Combat feels unbalanced (Oblivion and Skyrim were slightly better here) ranging from ok to frustratingly tedious or difficult. The difficulty of various foes often does not match with the expectations the game lore may give you. Enemies run around without any movement inertia making them frustratingly difficult to aim at. Hitbox detection is not great, and your bullets are often blocked by invisible walls if they pass near geometry. I also had lots of enemies get stuck behind geometry, with only legs clipping through the wall. Worst of all, at one point, my gun would not fire bullets – I would hear and see the gun fire, and the ammo counter would work, but no bullets – I got eaten alive, both ingame and in terms of frustration.
The mod experience was bad: I could not get most mods to work despite following all instructions etc. The mod scene may be vibrant, but it is still a total mess. It lacks curatorial refinement and there are no “1-click install” total-overhaul supermods (like the “complete” mod series for the Stalker games).

Buried underneath all the flaws is a good game, and you might find it, but I gave up after days of digging.

The best bits still comprise wasteland-wandering, and the hardcore mode is a curious addition. However, the Gamebryo engine is beginning to feel dated; It usually looks fine, but loading screens between doorways, the limited NPC population and the lack of views to underpin context add to a collective impression of unreality. Since NV uses the same graphics as FO3, it surprised me that NV shuns years of modding and DLC content by making this a 'new game', when it should have been implemented as a full expansion; Our FO3 character could easily have been asked to courier the Chip from, say, Rivet City to New Vegas and found ourselves confronted with Benny, allowing for a seamless merge. For those of us who have tweaked FO3 to our liking since '08, being dragged back to a 'Vanilla' world is a stark reminder of the flaws that mods have fixed (unless you are a console-gamer). I could have excused the game for occasional crashes and glitches, and I understand that the emphasis is now on the console-market, but the trigger that turned my mind from "give it a chance" to "this is dull" was the awful immersion. This was achieved by the inane AI, the primitive patchwork world, the poorly/lazily constructed story & narration, and the implausible architecture. My zero score is for balance. My true score would be 3, for its efforts to add 'Hardcore', improve the implementation of skills when dealing with NPC's, and some other beneficial but superficial improvments. NV's increased linearity irks me slightly as well. I hope ID Software graces Bethesda with a better 3D engine for TES V:Skyrim. Expand

One thing that is very highly rated by me is character development. Bethesda giving development back to Obsidian was definitely a good move. All of your companion's backgrounds and personality were well made (my personal favorite being Veronica). The storyline was also a step up from Fallout 3. In Fallout 3 your decisions for the end were, be a good guy or be a good guy. In New Vegas there were multiple endings, which is something I also like. The game play was just more of the same. Playing the game felt like Fallout 3, but more brown instead of gray. Although I felt that there was some tuning the shooting mechanics. Some, but not a lot. There was also a lot more quests and locations to visit, making the game, I felt, longer and more satisfying than Fallout 3. Now we get to my biggest problem with this game. Bugs. Lots and lots of bugs and glitches. I'm not sure when it became okay to release a game that isn't finished, but Bethesda seems to be able to make all of their games that way. I would understand if there was a bugs here and there, but sadly this isn't the case. There are bugs that make you stuck in one place, bugs that break quests, bugs that remove your companions from the world completely, bugs that will halt the storyline completely and many, many, many more. The fact that Bethesda seems to think this is okay is quite upsetting. In the PC version there is the console, which while can be cool at times, but mostly I find myself quickly reaching for the "~" key because something broke on me. If you don't mind doing quite the amount of debugging then New Vegas is worth picking up. I would wait until Steam puts it on sale though. Expand

Combat was improved but seems there is less in New Vegas and doesn't have that mysterious feel when i got to a new area. I felt forced to keep playing just to see if it got better but finally gave up. Expand

First of all, this game was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, not Bethesda. Obsidian, a.k.a Black Isle has an impressive resume which includes Baldur's Gate 2. This is not Fallout 3. If you're looking for something 100% revolutionary. If you did not like Fallout 3 at all, or found Fallout 3 to be a mediocre game, you might be better off skipping New Vegas.

But, if you even kind of liked Fallout 3, NV is worth picking up. I enjoyed Fallout 3, but I'm not a huge fan. New Vegas blew me away and continues to impress me every time I pick it up.

I would give this game a 6.5, unfortunatly we being users cant have that option, anyway. I felt that the companions and impact on the wasteland was very well made, but found the ai dumber but with far too much health. They put too much content in this game wich i think was a good and bad thing, they neglected on the gamplay and major bugs in the game, while focusing soley on weaposn and armor unfortunatly, it should have been better Expand

First; I've never played any Fallout-game before Fallout 3. I really LOVED Fallout 3, and finished it multiple times - both on the PlayStation 3 and on the computer. I bought Fallout: New Vegas at 75% discount on Steam, and for that price it's a fantastic game. I probably won't ever pick the game up again, and I have to say it's a much bigger chance that I'll replay Fallout 3 than New Vegas. But still, it's a really polished and enjoyable game. I'd probably give it a 7,5/10, but since it's not possible here on Metacritic I decided to bump it up to 8/10. Expand

What a game guys, and I can honestly say that in an incredibly negative way. I had a terrible time in this asset flipped screed of a game. For anyone not inclined to read further (and I know that unlike me, Vodd Lowhard, many aren't brave enough to take a view like this), Fallout New Vegas sucks. I had a terrible time in this asset flipped screed of a game. For anyone not inclined to read further (and I know that unlike me, Vodd Lowhard, many aren't brave enough to take a view like this), Fallout New Vegas sucks. It takes everything good about Fallout 3 (and I might have said Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and Skyrim, which is worth buying on the Nintendo 3DS when it comes out in Q3 2020, if Fallout New Vegas hadn't come out before them). Herein outlines why:

    1) The engine is terrible. When Bethesda, run by the genius Todd Howard (who is not me, Rod Saward) came up with the engine for their games in 1467, they had a purpose in mind. A goal. A vision. Something that was achieved, and then iterated upon again and again, to utter perfection. However, we, and by we, I mean us the public, and definitely not Todd Howard and his epic team of great people who are all the best at programming, realised the fact that it wouldn't last, so we updated it. The team that developed Fallout New Vegas and that awful looking new "Spouter Morlds" game (I think it's called that?) apparently didn't get the memo, and didn't update the engine or even bother to write a new engine from scratch. Pathetic. However, there is still value in older games, such as Skyrim, coming to PS Vita Q2 2021.

    2) The story. I'm sorry, but if I was invested in the confusingly boring type of story that Fallout New Vegas has decided to tell, I would go and read an intellectually heavyweight book like Charlie and the chocolate factory. Unfortunately, they've decided to jam something of that length into a game where it really doesn't belong, and you can really feel it with how jarring the number of dialogue options is in the conversations. A good example of dialogue in a game would be Skyrim (which I hear is coming to Stadia Q4 2024) or Fallout 4. A simple 4 options. Easy to understand. Perfect to play, so what if it "lacks complexity" or "is for babies". If I were Todd Howard, (and I am not, for I am Codd Mallard) I would be deeply upset by such a misunderstanding of my games. Good on him for being such a trooper and good developer

    3) The variety of weapons. There was absolutely no need for the 8 million and 4 available weapons in game (I counted them all myself). Why have different things when you could have a great system like in fallout 4, where everything follows a theme and looks lovely and in place. Why couldn't they have done that? Or Skyrim for another example. If Skyrim had had the insane number of weapons as New Vegas- the sheer bonkers number, we would not have been able to fit it into a UMD disc, exclusively for the PSP E1000 street model 2037 Q2.

In summary. It's just not great. I couldn't give it higher than a 0, not without compromising my integrity as a fan of good, fun, enjoyable games. Play it if you want, but honestly, you'd be better off with Skyrim, which I've heard is coming to Blackberry OS devices Q1 2021, or better yet, Fallout 76.

Fallout 3 is clearly a superior game to this sh*t. Can't believe Bethesda would make this kind of game.
I was really disappointed, a complete waste of money.

Despite Obsidian's fan-service, Fallout: New Vegas is a heaping pile of bugs.

Fallout: New Vegas looks like an Add On to Fallout 3, but that should not mean, that it's a copy of its forerunner. It scores with an great atmosphere, nice story and all the typical and awesome Fallout features.
