I've played every Bethesda game and completed most of them 100% while putting in hundreds of hours (including (fo4) , but not this one. It's pathetic that even after weeks of Beta tests there have been no fixes made.

I never thought I'd see them make something more embarrassing than the horse armour debacle, but here we are. We've all put up with countless bugs etc in previous games

Fallout 76 is an absolutely soulless game, an endless void of uninspired grinding. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why it's such an absolute chore to play, I went into it optimistically, I was honestly hoping for a good time. I've sunk a ridiculous amount of hours into the fallout and Elder Scrolls series and I've enjoyed them a lot despite their flaws but 76 just stands apart, it's the black sheep of the series, the really boring black sheep. The main story is pathetic. Fallout 76 is the story of an insane man chasing quest markers around a map while pointless audio logs play in the background. You do not have any goals or direction, there are no characters to get you engaged or immersed in the game, just an endless series of quest markers to follow around. Saying the story is half-assed would be an overstatement, it's closer to no assed. The world is actually quite beautiful, the environments look really great and contain many different visually distinct areas, it's just too bad there's nothing in this world worth finding. There is literally no challenge in this game at all. Almost every enemy takes one or two shots to kill, while the player seems to be built like a tank. The power armor in this game works similar to the the star powerup in Super Mario Bros, you never die... At first I thought this was just because I was in a low-level area, but I ended up running into an enemy that was nearly double my level at one point and he was basically no threat whatsoever, I just back pedaled down the road and shot him in the face a few times. This game's difficulty feels like I'm playing fallout 4 on the "game journalist" difficulty. It is mind-numbingly boring and as a result of that I quickly started using fast travel whenever I possibly could to avoid fighting endless waves of impotent enemies. Let's talk about the loot, which is basically the only reason to play the game. There's no story and the enemies suck, so the loot has to be good right? This was the moment of revelation for me, this was the point that I figured it out, fallout 76 is not a Fallout game, it's a F-ing MMO. The core gameplay is there, it's a shooting game where you collect loot and level up, but all the joy of playing a Fallout game is just absent. There are no cool characters to meet, there are no interesting areas to explore I would go as far to say there really are no quests. Every area is just go here, kill dudes, pick up loot and return. And is the loot even worth anything? No of course not, MMOs are designed to waste your time, so you'll find 500000 pipe pistols that are all worth one cap. Thank You Todd. Let's talk about the cash shop. I don't really need to say anything about this. There is a cashshop and everyone knows cashshops are cancer. The leveling completely sucks, I have no idea how they F-ed this up so bad. The leveling up in Skyrim and fallout 4 was awesome, there were so many good perks to choose from and every level made you feel tangibly stronger. But leveling up in fallout 76 is pretty bland, the game randomizes the perks you can choose from and most of them are really anemic. I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference between my character when I was level one versus when I was level 20. It felt more or less the same. And because of the randomness, there's basically no chance that you can specialise towards a specific kind of build, you're just sort of stuck with whatever they give you. I imagine that after a few hundred hours of playtime you might be able to collect all the different perks, but there is no way I'm gonna suffer through to that point. This game handicaps itself by being so pathetically easy, why would you ever bother to team up with someone who's going to take half of your loot if you can play just as effectively solo. it's completely pointless. And even if you are brain-dead enough to actually need help with a quest good luck finding another player who has the exact same quest, is a similar level and actually wants to team up with you. You are probably more likely to win the lottery, so the co-op is totally pointless. The PvP is not only also pointless but it's also fundamentally broken. The way the PvP works is that when you shoot a player it sends a duel request and does a tiny amount of damage to that player, then if that player shoots back at you it starts a duel and then you both do full damage to each other. The problem here is that the person who sends the duel request by shooting first will always lose because the way you initiate the duel is by shooting back, meaning that if someone shoots you, you can just walk straight up to them, go into your inventory, put on your power armor, pop a psycho, get out your strongest shotgun and then just vats in on their head and get a critical and you'll kill them in one hit. You win the duel there's nothing they can do to stop you from doing this because they cannot damage you until you shoot back. it's just the most broken system. Expand

It could be a fun game if the developers knew how to separate physics from framerate like every other game developer in the last 15 years. But as of now it's just not an acceptable experience for 60 dollars.

Every time Bethesda releases a game, I'm reminded of how bulletspongey both the pc and enemies are in their game. Thankfully, fixing that is a 1-minute mod in any previous Bethesda title. Here that's impossible (or cheating, take your pick) and everyone feels spongier than ever. I would think the inability to save would add tension to the game, but so often I'd get in a fight with a higher level enemy only to find that they hit like the butterfly that gets picked on at the butterfly gym.

I've never been a "well it's actually a X but I'm giving it a 0 because messages," sort of guy. But while I get that this game has more good about it than Ride to Hell or an asset flip, those games manage to be in fun in a "look how bad this is!" way. I kept waiting to get into a flow with this game, but kept being reminded of how much worse it was than a 3-year old game. All that makes for a gaming experience I regard as one of the worst in my life. If it were a little worse, it would be so bad it's good. Instead, it just sucks. In my book, that's a 0.

There are no characters to talk to, to hear stories from. No humans to give you quests that have an actual meaning to them. All quests in this game are given by robots, which takes away the feeling that you are doing the quest to help a person. All the quests are repetitive fetch quests or escort missions. All in all, this game is a huge letdown that feels very empty and incomplete. I do not recommend this game until Bethesda adds mod support and private servers that allow you to up the player count to at least 64. Additionally, the game runs on a 20-year-old engine, like wtf? However, it can be forgiven the game has a good plot, added with coop mode and mb some other features.
And yes we get some cool features. Thanks to coop mode we now can kill a more high-level NPC by throwing our corpses at him, like I was able to kill 15 lvl npc as 3 lvl just by re-spawning 19 times near it. This though seems legit since the player can get in a fight with such right from the start. I also like the possibility of finding a power armour for lvl 30+, while being lvl 5. Oh and considering levelling, I think Todd Howard made the best innovation ever. Now we have loot boxes from which we can get our skills after levelling, that is work of a true artist. And not only that, looks like dialogues and in-game interactions are something from the past, who needs this sh**.

This is the experience of Fallout 76. Obnoxious other players who are there occasionally, and when they aren't you still suffer by losing out on NPCs, VATs, being able to pause the game and just generally everything that makes Fallout a good game.

I do not think I have ever been so disappointed in a "AAA" release.

On top of this, when I went to pick up my physical copy from GameStop (which was ordered 5 months ago) the disk was made of cardboard and had a code stamped on it for download. Now I want to return the game but GameStop "doesn't accept returns on digital purchases," one of the reasons I ordered a physical copy in the first place.

Just a colossal failure on the part of both Bethesda and GameStop.

A truly disappointing entry into the fallout series. Bethesda misread their formula and added all of the wrong ingredients. While the idea of a multiplayer fallout game initially intrigued me quite a bit, there is just far too much wrong with this game to give it any kind of endorsement.

Multiplayer – The multiplayer aspect of this game almost feels like an afterthought with how bad it is. Bethesda usually nails single player games but their formula does not adopt very well to the multiplayer stage. The game tries to straddle the line between single-player and multi-player without really committing to either. This ends up one of the biggest issues with the game as it was marketed specifically as a multiplayer fallout, so when one of the biggest features falls flat, it really impacts the game across the board. Other players basically have no reason to interact with you at any point. PvP combat with other players is a joke, with no consequence and no real sense of danger from seeing other players. Someone can walk right up to you and empty an entire magazine into you for little to no damage, something easily ignored even in the middle of combat. Questing with others is also pointless as every member of the party needs to separately complete each objective without the option to share any sort of progress. I can see what Bethesda was shooting for when they attempted to make this multiplayer instead of focusing on single player but they clearly missed the mark.

Combat – Combat feels sluggish and unresponsive, which is only made worse by the neutered VATS system. Without the ability to use VATS in any meaningful way, Fallout 76 has to rely on its shooter mechanics which fall noticeably short of the bar set by other games. Bullets often seem more like nerf darts and melee can be like wading through syrup at times.

Perks – The perk system now feels exactly like a loot box, which I hope is just an accident on Bethesda’s part. Rather than having any sort of control over how your character specializes, the random nature of the new perk system basically forces players to just cross their fingers and hope that they get a somewhat decent collection of perk cards. Choice is almost completely ignored until much later levels where the player will have eventually acquired the majority of the perk cards.

Crafting – Crafting also feels largely neutered and useless. With many weapon customization options seemingly missing from the game and no support coming from the community any time soon, this feels like a clear step backwards for no reason. Bethesda already had a working system in fallout 4 that they could and should have improved upon rather than dropping the ball as they have.

Exploration/Questing – While the map does look big at a glance, the world feels strangely empty due to the lack of NPC hubs and quest givers. It feels like quite a few assets were taken directly from Fallout 4 as the world seems almost too familiar at times. Most quests devolve rather quickly into fetch quests or kill quests which is a disappointing direction for the franchise. Some of the new locations do look impressive but the world itself only looks good the first few times through an area, after that they rapidly grow monotonous as the same enemies spawn each time you wander nearby. Questing lacks any sort of mystery as the outcome of most quests in known right from the start.

Micro Transactions –One of the most polished aspects of the game seems to be the Atom shop. This is just the next poor choice in a series of bad decisions made by Bethesda regarding monetization. Given their most recent failures with the monetization of mods and the failure that was the creation club in Skyrim and Fallout 4, I can’t say I’m surprised to see them try this again, although it is disappointing to see them resort to this level of greed. What content is present in the shop feels like a joke with how simple it is and that’s not even factoring in the heinous prices attached.

I feel that Bethesda missed the mark pretty much across the board with this entry into the Fallout franchise. Their excessive focus on wringing more money out of their players is starting to become an irritating trend and the lack of work put into this game is almost a slap in the face for their dedicated fans. It feels more like the Bethesda accountant made all the creative decisions behind this game which is a shame considering how well received their other titles have been. They had a winning formula they outright ignored in what seems like a quick cash grab. I understand that not everyone will agree with what I’ve written, but I’ve played quite a few Bethesda games now, and this feels like a serious departure from their past successes.

This game is incredibly empty with no real npc's to interact with, workbenches and the like that can only be utilized by a single player at a team leading to waiting in line for the chance to do anything, player collision systems that stop players from moving through each other making it so that people who stop in door ways stop everyone else from entering the building. Monsters spawn far to frequently and attack based solely on seeing a player, meaning trolls simply lead large groups of monsters into populated areas and let them loose on unsuspecting players and also causes players to basically be penalized for actively trying to explore instead of just following where the game actively leads you. On top of that the story, if you want to call it that, is really, really lazy and poorly done. It honestly might as well not even be there. By playing this game you put your IP address at risk of DDOS by anyone with basic understanding, your time at risk of the whim of cheaters, and your joy in constant risk of the whim of cheaters. Shame on those of you giving this game a 10, it shouldn't even have been released in this condition. On top of all of that say you got to try the game in the beta(1 month before release isn't a beta it's an early show) by a friend giving you a key, congrats F:76 is going to hold GIGS of your hard drive hostage until you pay Bethesda for your key just to uninstall it or the person who gave you the key puts their own account at risk by giving others access to a private account because they didn't have the basic decency to allow said players to uninstall the game. All of that is why I say shame on the people giving this, to be blunt, garbage a 10. This thing shouldn't even be *allowed* on the market in the current state and, again to be blunt, scam-like beta practices.

Edit: As of now the current methods of encryption are not entirely clear, the methods used are not up to, speaking metaphorically, code. There's different forms of encryption going on at different times, all statements about cheaters are extremely valid however Bethesda did do at least some effort to encrypt important things some of the time. As of now your IP could leak but is less likely to then it initially looked, that said there are still ways to derive it and many people who want to pretend it's not an issue. This is still a major issue in an ONLINE only game. To those saying there are no bugs, you're a liar. To those saying there isn't more risk of cheaters in this game, you're a liar or delusional. By appearances packets used can be easily forged and due to the engine used people who would do such are ahead of the pack compared to other titles. That said there's day one mods for the UI which is a direct security risk of wallhacks along with other nefarious means, it's better then it had looked but it's still unacceptable condition for an online game. All of that said, good job Bethesda for doing the minimum effort to stop people from getting leaked IPs. Before the game even was "released" people found ways to cheat and support cheating, there can be mod support or strong anti cheat and they really can't have it both ways in this case. They can allow mods, as an example, that hook into the UI and change things or they can disallow such things because of the ease of adapting cheats to such methods, they can't have it both ways.

Simply unfinished. It is insultingly bad for the price point and should never have been shipped out in the condition that it is in. This game is nothing but a big middle finger by bethesda to every fallout fan and this game shows that they care about their franchises only in name alone. Disconnects, quest breaking glitches, stuttering and framerate dips, enemies spawning in front of youSimply unfinished. On a technical level this game is objectively garbage and that's not even going into the empty world that they've created. No purpose at all in this game, just a sandbox without the sand in it. I am not impressed with this game its glitches way to much. I have never had so many glitches in an online game. Cant finish quests cause of the glitches. If your carrying too much and die you have to quit the game in order to re spawn and your only allowed to put 400 items in your storage box when in past fallout games there where no limits on that so if your carrying too much you cantI am not impressed with this game its glitches way to much. And so much for people not being able to keep killing you every time you respawn cause it happens or just killing you for no reason while using a computer so yeah im not impressed with this one Expand

This is simply not a game. Any other survival game is better, including original DayZ mod.

Pre-ordered Fallout 76, played the BETA twice and cancelled thereafter. It isn't quite the same, it's been ruined and we only have Bethesda to thank. A terrible experience full of game breaking bugs and boring gameplay.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
