I enjoyed this game. It's not perfect, and it's not what I'd expect from Bethesda. It's less of an RPG and more of a Survival Game. Still, there is some interesting information poking around in the background with logs and messages and on terminals and all that. I will admit, I do think the lack of NPCs is a bit upsetting, and that's ultimately what holds the game back from a perfect rating in my opinion. If there is anything to improve going forward, that might be it.

Anyway. It's a fun game overall, and I'm enjoying it so far.

Edit: Bumping my score up to 10. More people were on in the evening, more people were talking in the evening, and it was all around just more fun that way. I've already established my character's personality and backstory and I'm holding to it!

If you want a high risk pvp game like Rust or Ark where getting killed, raided and eventually wiped is 100% expected and you love the thrill of trying to be alpha tribe before you get wiped, this game is not for you.

If you want a traditional fallout game where you interact with interesting NPCs and make thoughtful choices, this game isn't for you either.

So who is this game for and why the hell did I give it a 10? If you want a mix between DayZ and Mist this game is for you. It's honestly perfect for me and my boyfriend. I LOVE games like Rust and Ark, but he wont play them with me because he hates putting so much time and effort into something only to get raided in the end. I have little interest in a co-op Fallout 4 because who's choices would matter?

This game is seriously awesome, it combines sandbox elements with a really rich story. It's just a different type of story. You emerge from vault 76 only 25 years after the war. The government filled vault 76 and other early release vaults with the best and brightest the USA had to offer because we're the ones that have to rebuild and shape the world for the future vaults. After being released you interact with a few robots that point you in a direction and you go. You find out that people who weren't able to secure safety in a vault did survive after the bombs dropped, you find their camps, diaries and holotapes talking about everything from dangerous radiation levels in the water to mutated monsters, plagues and maybe even aliens (not sure if that's actually a thing or just a crazy person rambling). The tapes are awesome because you can listen to them while rummaging around collecting stuff.

You try to drink the water and you get rads, you try to eat the food and you get rads. You try to collect the water to boil it, and you still get rads but less so. They don't cure over time, and Radaway is sparce and you can't craft it (at least at first, not sure if you can later). You start listening to these tapes and the survivors testing the water and trying to figure out how to purify it and you have to pick up where they left off if you hope to survive long term. That's the reality of being the first ones out of a vault, no town to buy purified water in. You have to figure out how to purify it so there can be towns and factions in the future.... as well as looking into super mutant threats, plagues, aliens and other crazy rumors that could end human life as we know it. Just because the story doesn't handhold you or tell you how awesome and invaluable your character is every 15 minutes doesn't mean there isn't a rich story for you to uncover on your own.

Obviously there's monster hunting, treasure maps, air drops, crafting, perks and skills and other cool stuff. You can build a camp but it logs out with you for the night so you can only get raided while online (even then you have a chest that only you can access, additional storage people can loot though). You know what though, that's a nice change of pace. It's a game, I can't be on 24/7. The community actually seems nice, people are intentionally leaving things in lootable chests to help others along. Don't get me wrong I LOVE games like Ark and Rust, I've got 600+ hours in each on official servers... but I also like to be able to sleep easy when I log out and I like playing games with my boyfriend so this is fun in it's own right and the first game of it's kind.

I also love a deeply rich story, I love the previous fallout games. I've played through the Mass Effect Trilogy so many times it's unreal. I don't need to become leader of every guild and have NPCs stare at me in awe though. I don't always need to be the center of the universe, sometimes it's cool to just be a part of it and make it what you will.

TLDR; if you want Fallout 5 Co-Op, this is not for you. If you want DayZ, this is not for you. If you want something in the middle of those that you can convince your PvP shy friends and family to play, this is perfect for you.

The company doesn't owe you anything. If this was a singleplayer game 90% of these negative reviews would be desperately defending the game against any and all complaints, including the bugs. The game still looks fine, graphics, believe it or not, do not make a game good or bad. I much prefer the art style argument for looks, and Fallout 76 has strong art direction and a good style. The big root of all of these negative reviews is that the company did something the fanboys didn't like, and they all think that if they whine enough it will make the company feel bad or change. Its a company, and it owes you nothing. I have been a fan of Bethesda since i was 8 years old, and I personally quite like this game, it is a cozy Bethesda title with none of the problems with bad writing that have plagued their last few games, namely Fallout 4 and Skyrim, with the majority of quests I have done thus far in 25 hours of BETA and the last two days of the released product being well written and delivering the story well. There isn't any ludo-narrative dissonance like plagued Fallout 4, and the lack of NPCs is a good thing, as Fallout 4s NPCs were boring and forgettable and, personally, I would rather have nothing than something actively detrimental to my experience with the game the way that dealing with Preston Garvey was. This is a Spinoff game, not Fallout 5. Remember that Fallout has had spinoffs before, and if Brotherhood of Steel on the Xbox couldn't kill the franchise when it was in a vulnerable state, then Fallout 76 is not going to kill it when it is insanely popular. It sickens me to see so many fans of Bethesda's games trashing their newest one simply because it is different. Do you want 15 more Skyrim Rereleases? Because this is how you get the company to never try anything new again, you stupid fanboys you. Expand

The graphics are better than anything bethesda has released to date, and the atmosphere and lighting is sublime. And to top that off i am running game at full 4k res on ultra settings at over 100fps. The only complaint would be I hate field of view and there is no option to turn it off, that being said it is well implamented and anoys me less than most other games. Will this game be for everyone no probably not and if you go into it expecting it to be another fallout in the series than you wont like it, but if you go into it knowing its not trying to be its just trying to be a different type of game in the fallout world you should really enjoy it. Grieving is none-existent right now.

People who are used to the Fallout singleplayer games might have problems with this title though. The only reason for this is, that there are no human npcs. All humans are players. If you don't embrace that it might feel "empty". Thats an illusion though. Because of people being upset about it, it might have been a bad decision by Bethesda to do it like that, but the game is amazing. A real singleplayer game done in multiplayer and its full of content. Just no babbling human skinned NPCs, but its still story rich and huge, full of stuff to do.

I'll start quite simple. I love this game, I love the Fallout series and I love what Bethesda do. If you could sum up Bethesda in one word, I would use "ambitious". People have wanted multiplayer Bethesda games for a long time. This is the first time we've got one (Yes I am aware of ESO, I played it, but that's made by Zenimax and is barely faithful to the Elder Scrolls world). BethesdaI'll start quite simple. Bethesda have created a beautiful and atmospheric world that we can explore together, and they plan to keep adding to it for FREE. The microtransactions are cosmetic only and OPTIONAL.

A lot of people are complaining about the survival aspects. It was ADVERTISED as being more about survival than previous games. If people didn't pay attention to that well that's their problem.

People also complain about the lack of human NPCs. Yes it can be a bit jarring coming from games where people are everywhere you look, but we're overlooking one key fact. Fallout 76 is chronologically the earliest Fallout game to date. A lot of the Vaults from which people appeared to settle the wasteland are still sealed. It makes sense that there aren't any people about. They survived on the surface in a hostile world for a while, but radiation and other problems have taken their toll. Bethesda have said they will update the game supposedly "forever". Who's to say we won't start seeing NPCs appear as time goes on, as Vault Dwellers begin to settle the wasteland. This game will live or die on its player base. It's up to US to rebuild. The dwellers of Vault 76 are the first to emerge.

The crafting and camp system for me are fantastic, letting us claim our own corner of Appalachia. If you enjoy survival, enjoy roleplaying or just enjoy shooting things in the face, this game has something for you. Don't let the whining of people who didn't bother to research what they were buying put you off this amazing game.

There are also a bunch of factions that you can join in this game and receive some really cool gear from, eventually Bethesda will add faction based PVP as well. Speaking of adding new things, Bethesda has already said they will continue to add more content into the game. All DLCs are said to be free content, and that is a very good thing for this game.
