This is not the best the gaming industry has to offer, if I'm being honest. First of all, it has a ton of bugs - sever ones, too. I've died or had followers die numerous times because something went wrong; I got stuck, enemies got stuck etc. A few hours in it gets repetitive and really, really easy to survive. The story is a bit all over the place, and not really original. The AI is so, soThis is not the best the gaming industry has to offer, if I'm being honest. But despite all these, there is something here. An idea, a beginning, something that kept pulling me back for more. And i see a lot of reviewers who criticized it say they too spend a long time playing it. Maybe in the future they could polish a sequel and make it something really spectacular. And damn, it just looks so pretty.

This is an interesting game to review. I've used this before in other reviews, but it's basically a "Piranha Bytes" game. If you're familiar with the endearing jank of games like Gothic and Risen, you'll understand what's going on here. So, here's the break down

Pros: -Engaging gameplay loop: Go outside, gather, head back, go outside, expand to an outpost, head back. Rinse and repeat.

    Pros:
-Engaging gameplay loop: Go outside, gather, head back, go outside, expand to an outpost, head back. Rinse and repeat.
-Pacing. Every area has just the right amount of required materials to keep you going.
-Stakes. It's been loosened up pretty substantially from the early access, but the game does have permadeath (but gives you plenty of chances)
-Crafting. It's not in-depth crafting like an Atelier game, but everything has a purpose to be made and there's just enough going on to make you wonder if you'll have enough.
-Useful followers. Could just be me, but I like fewer followers that do specific things than a village full of people that contribute to a pool of usefulness
    -Doggos

    Cons:
-Bugs. Bugs for days! From physics glitches, to loading loops, to CTDs, there's a bug for everyone.
-Jumping. There's a point in the game where you have to use this and never really needed to in that way before that suuuucks.
-Lack of dev support? I haven't seen much since launch, but with so many bugs there should really be some hotfixes. Seriously, I died twice because my wolves' physics janked out and I flew off a ledge.

    Passable stuff:
-Voice acting. Sometimes the voice acting is done really well, and other times it's just soulless. Which, may be the point sometimes.
-Combat. Combat is real basic. Normal attack, heavy attack, dodge. Sometimes basic controls work when they are used in more than one way, but really it's just a game of heavy attack and dodge played on repeat. Also, I think there are only 4 enemy types with a couple mid-game palette swaps.

So, take all that how you will. In spite of the flaws, I loooooved this game. It just scratched an itch. Think "Risen" meets "The Long Dark" and you'll have a pretty good idea of what's going on. Could it use some fixes? Good lord yes. But, a game doesn't have to be perfect to be enjoyable.

Worth noting is I got this on a 50% off sale. That's probably about the right price in my opinion.

I was not interested in the game. I do not know why. Played for an hour and turned it off. It just wasn't fun to play. Visually, the game was also not impressive (although the screenshots were interesting, because of them I decided to play).

This could be a halfway decent addition to the ever-growing number of open world survival adventures. But certain design decisions like permadeath (which even From Software stayed away from) keep it from escaping mediocrity.

Fade To Silence is a game that pushes all the right buttons, but it doesn’t push some of them quite hard enough. In a survival game, it’s important for hostile threats to be just as important as the resource gathering, management, and base building. The idea is there, the environment is there, but the mechanics are only half there when one half is a rather addictive base management system and the other half is overly simplistic combat.

There are some positives, such as brilliant atmosphere, cool environment and interesting setting. But the negatives far outweigh them. Design mistakes, poorly thought-out features and absolutely atrocious combat consistently ruin any potential for having fun.
