Exit the Gungeon is a solid spin-off that is able to deliver a level of enjoyment that matches its predecessor, while also standing tall on its own two feet.

Exit the Gungeon made the smart move to take its adventure to consoles, and the result is a fun and skill-based gaming experience. The game can be enjoyed in small bursts or long play sessions as you hone your skills during each run. The only downside is the amount of things to do here is limited to what the mobile version could accomplish, which makes this entry come up a bit short. Regardless, I found this version to be the best way to play.

Exit The Gungeon may not hit the same high notes as its predecessor, but it's still a worthwhile trip to take from the bottom all the way to the top.

I admittedly didn’t exit the Gungeon but I had a lot of fun between the Breach and my constant deaths trying to escape the time paradox created with Enter The Gungeon. Although this process often feels like beating my head against a wall with other titles, the charm and chaos of Exit The Gungeon keeps me captivated while my stubbornness forces me to keep picking it up and trying to climb my way out of the Gungeon.

Exit the Gungeon is neither as sharp nor as complete as it could be, but its foundation is so strong that it can be great fun regardless.

Is it another Enter the Gungeon? No, it isn't. But as a quick arcade romp, it's a blast. It shows that even when shifting genres, Dodge Roll knows how to craft a good roguelike and keep players wanting to punish themselves more and more with each run.

Most of the content, including music, items, and enemies, is directly transferred from the world of Enter The Gungeon, making the product even more secondary than it previously seemed. On PC, Exit the Gungeon has already experienced several patches, after which it became more playable, but it is still noticeable that this is a quickly molded game, released in the hope of hype around the first one and high sales.

Exit the Gungeon is an extremely simple and repetitive rogue-like that doesn't feel worthwhile as a PC or console experience.

If you’re expecting a full follow-up to Enter the Gungeon, with the same degree of depth, you’ll be disappointed. Exit the Gungeon is, at its best, a fun but shallow shooter, which doesn’t really deliver on its appealing premise. But if you’re prepared to take this light and fluffy sidequel for what it is, there’s still joy to be had on your way out of the Gungeon.

Exit the Gungeon is ultimately neither a good bullet hell game, nor a particularly fun experience. All in all, it’s a pretty bite size offering that lacks the variety one would expect from a full PC title. The lack of a twin stick control scheme, combined with the gun blessing sweepstakes and the requirement for constant jumping and dodging, means aiming at enemies isn’t fluid. The blessing mechanic effectively feels like a mod – something a player might try out for fun, or to change up their experience with the game, or to add a new challenge into the mix. In reality though, there is unfortunately no uninstalling this feature. Players are better off sticking to mobile, or more sophisticated shmups.

Honestly, I feel like this one is a game that manages to make a lot of little bad decisions, but the fundamental mechanic of how it handles weaponry speaks to a basic desire to make a game all about weird guns in which you never care about any of them. They’re all just momentary blips you’ll never get to hang on to, so you don’t care about their quirks and can’t build around them at all. You always feel like you’re playing with half of your tools.

Exit The Gungeon, Is a side screen Platformer with bullet hell elements included inside of it's game play.
This Game is clearly a spin off that has much less polish and less quality in it's craft compared to The Original Gungeon.
Exit the Gungeon seems to have had love put into it, but these are still my opinions when comparing these two titles, I don't think Exit The Gungeon is a bad game but it is lacking in places.

    Game Play
The Game play in this game compared to it's predecessor feels a little flimsy, and seems to be missing the meaningful hint of skill that was contained in every segment of the Original game. The guns seems more of a chance if it will lock onto the correct target, and having the guns be randomized every few seconds makes the strategy of what weapons and what chests you try to acquire is gone. The new jump action seems neat but adds no more variety/strategy then the original dodge roll already did. Taking away the reload action and the ammo count gets rid of the rhythmic timing the original had making it a guess when your bullets will be delayed. The balancing seems to be either a hit or miss from interaction to interaction, comparing two bosses,The Low Priest is a great consistent experience while GungaMesh seems to be a unfair fight.

    Writing
The Writing in this game took a step up, having more interactions with characters like Ox and Cadence begin to interact more and have more banter. However, the slow sort of sadness that the original is nearly all gone, you get glimpses of it here and there but this game doesn't carry as much purpose or faint desperation that each character subtlety carried. The game is much more light hearted

    Originality
Their is very few things that are this games idea, most things in this game are heavily reused as well as ideas. Their is 5 returning bosses with twists and 6 are original to this game. Nearly all the enemies are from the previous game and all the items are from the previous as well. All in All this game's most original concept is adding hats...

    Final Thoughts
After finishing this review i can say this game is not bad, but is not a proper continuation of Gungeon. The Game would have fared better if it was it's own thing, if this was a regular arcade shooter I don't think this would make me as disappointed as I am.

while inferior to the game this spin-off is based on, it still has much of enter the gungeon's charm. I like the concept of the gungeoneerswhile inferior to the game this spin-off is based on, it still has much of enter the gungeon's charm. I like the concept of the gungeoneers having to escape the gungeon, and while it takes a bit of time to get used to the new controls, it feels good to control. Full Review »

Its a good game but compared to enter the gungeon its soo much worse. I would have like some more game length and complexity
