Continuing my story game theme as of late I jumped on this one as it looked interesting but after finishing it I could have lived without playing it. It's a pretty great art piece but a piss poor game, technically it's a shocker, I had to play with the 30fps cap enabled on medium settings just to maintain a somewhat stable frame rate, 60fps was out of the question even on low settings. It is a very nice looking game, on the same level as The Vanishing of Ethan Carter which blew me away but with considerably worse performance (60fps solid in TVoEC). The video settings menu was almost completely empty with only the basics available. The audio was really great though, both the music and voice work, absolutely no complaints here. Gameplay wise, well there wasn't any, at all, you literally walk around (VERY slowly) and press X occasionally, a lot of games are falsely labelled as walking sims but this really was just that. This would have been a much better game with proper optimisation and a proper run button (there's a sad excuse for one where you hold R2 and you slowly build up speed but it's not always available and you barely move any faster). Pros:
-Graphics, artistic direction, music and professional voice acting, do a great job on sucking you into the world of Everybody's gone to the Rapture.

    Cons:
-Keep in mind that, "interactive books", like this game, lack any kind of gameplay except for walking from one place to another. The challenge is -solely- in piecing the story together..
-Non linearity doesn't really fit, making the game a bit tedious in too many parts.
-World is too big and open for so little content, wich leaves little reward for exploration and time investment (this could be solved by, for example, doubling the running/sprinting speed).
-Too short to justify a 20€ investment.

If you have ever been to a village in Surrey on a weekday morning you don't need to play this game. Its exactly the same thing. Pretty but empty villages until all the people who work in the city come back in the evening.

I had not realised that you run by holding down the shift key for several seconds, it's not an instant sprint. In the end I followed the instructions at the PC Gaming Wiki and downloaded an app called Cheat Engine that let me sprint at three times speed by pressing shift. Once I did this the game became bearable.
The game is more work than it should be, but the powerful ending makes up for the earlier frustrations.
It's an emotional, sophisticated piece of art. Reminded me of a Radio 4 play, although sometimes it came close to The Archers. Definitely worth persevering with, but they really should fix the running speed.

There is probably some interesting story, but lack of gameplay didn't make me involved it at all. This is not a game.
Visually speaking, EGTR is incredible. Rocking two 1080Tis in SLI, I struggled to maintain a decent framerate in UHD. The textures are spot on, the game look crisp and the level of detail is incredible as well. The audio is nice, as is the voice acting.
While the story itself is interesting, the game sometimes becomes boring as you can't move but at a very slow speed.

While the story itself is interesting, the game sometimes becomes boring as you can't move but at a very slow speed. The fact that you can't jump, forcing you to make incredibly long detours when facing a 10cm-high fence, is also gamebreaking imho.

I was pleased with the presentation of the plot that we are really watching the chronicles of the last days of ordinary people from the village, entertaining interpretation and visualization of the end of the world without any pathos - ordinary people with their ordinary stories, which are more penetrating. All the voice-over actors have been posted here on all the world awards as if by me (played in the original language).
I wasn't happy about the absence of a normal run, the fact that the game was played after a couple of years of attempts to launch (previously, with any graphic setting showed 5-10 fps), blurred finale

    ITALIAN:
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture è un gioco misterioso e affascinante, ma con alcuni gravi difetti.

    AUDIO E GRAFICA:

    VOTI PARZIALI:
    - Audio: 10/10
    - Video e ottimizzazione: 7.5/10
    - Gameplay: 6/10
    - Ritmo: 3/10
    - Storia: 7/10

The beginning chapter really hooked me into the story. Then the walking began. Have you ever had a nightmare that your trying to run but am walking at a snails pace? You walk so. incredibly. slow throughout the entire game. I believe the developers did this so that the game would be stretched out into a longer gameplay length, but the sluggish speed of the character ultimately distracted me from the story and made me unwilling to explore “distant” areas to unlock more of the story (which is the only aspect of the game). And when I made a wrong turn or encountered a dead end, I would be so frustrated that it ultimately had me wanting to simply Google the cutscenes and get the cliff notes of the story. After hours of slogging through the games map, my interest in the story faded, praying for a climactic ending that satisfied all of this laborious work to get to it, but after hour five and reaching the ending, nothing was going to make the entire experience worthwhile. It’s a simple adjustment in speed and priorities I believe the developers should have considered more carefully. Expand

Yes, there are a few bugs here are there, but nothing game-breaking. Usually minor visual glitches. Expand

For me Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture was a beautiful, almost mystical experience thanks to its atmosphere and one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. It’s a shame that on PC framerate tends to drop below acceptable levels, I was annoyed by some bugs and the ending failed to properly wrap up the story. [08/2016, p.72]

The stunning graphics and the exceptional music, as well as voice overs, are not enough for a game that lacks appropriate optimization and a satisfactory interpretation of the events we tail after, packed in no longer than 5 hours. A very promising narrative experience that proves inadequate in many key areas.
