You won’t have played anything like Eternal Threads before, and unless Cosmonaut Studios makes a follow-up, you likely never will again. This is a remarkable piece of storytelling, expertly written and crafted, weaving together the ordinary and the futuristic to create something incredibly compelling. You won’t want to put it down, and once you’ve finished, you’ll be thinking about it for weeks to come. It truly is something special.

Eternal Threads has really convinced us, thanks to the freedom it leaves the player to carry out the investigation as he likes. In the end, temporal manipulation is just the excuse to propose an excellent investigative puzzle game.

Eternal Threads does a great job at combining narratives together to tell an engaging and interesting story. Being able to affect different events and change outcomes also provides another level of story enjoyment, especially when changing the past doesn’t always have an optimal outcome. While the graphical issues and voice acting could have been better, Eternal Threads is still a great narrative game that will have you thinking about it long after you finish playing.

If you enjoy clever puzzlers or first person, narrative-driven tales, Eternal Threads should be on your radar. Some of the tales at play can be confronting, but playing with time and discovering the outcomes has rarely felt so enthralling.

Cosmonaut Studios may be minnows, but they have managed to create a title that stands tall amongst the best in the storytelling genre. Eternal Threads is a great experience that I can wholeheartedly recommend to both fans and skeptics of this type of game.

Eternal Threads is a wholly unique experience and one that I definitely recommend. That said, outside of snooping in the lives of six unsuspecting strangers there’s not really any other elements to rope in gameplay-heavy players.

"The best new game you've never heard of." That's how ‘Eternal threads’ was pitched by our bright local PR rep. Normally we put our defenses up even more than usual upon hearing a similar statement. But after only a few minutes of playing, it was already clear: he was simply right.

An absorbing, interactive Doctor Who-style time mystery, which is, without a doubt, wholly unique.

Eternal Threads, at its core, is a story of six people sharing a home and experiencing pretty day to day problems. However, with the added element of time travel and the game’s emphasis on nothing being insignificant, you become invested in the way the characters’ lives play out and the choices you make for them. I found myself cringing when the characters made a mistake, feeling bad when I chose a path that hurt them, and rejoicing when they finally found peace. Due to the way these characters are given believable backstories and personalities, I took the power of having their lives in my hands seriously and made sure that my six new friends received the past and future that they rightfully deserved.

Ultimately, Eternal Threads is a slow-burner that tells an endlessly intriguing story through a unique take on time travel. While this isn't everyone's cup of tea, it's something special.

Eternal Threads has a fantastic idea that's well-executed, with some great story beats and characters you can't help but like.

A few small gripes aside, Eternal Threads is a smart, uniquely structured and thoroughly enjoyable narrative adventure. By taking a trope that has become associated with the genre and owning it, the game feels fresh among the other games that attempt this concept too. If you enjoyed the likes of Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture or Tacoma, you’ll enjoy this.

While it lacks a strong first impression, Eternal Threads offers a fun and unique narrative puzzle solving experience.

Eternal Threads is a magnificent narrative game inspired by titles like Her Story or Telling Lies, which allows us to interact with the time stream from different perspectives to alter a script full of surprises. Very good if you like this kind of narrative games.

All in all, I have great respect for what the team have tried to do here with Eternal Threads. The narrative is fairly compelling, and the way this game plays with time mechanically is still quite unique for games. It didn’t quite hit all the marks I was hoping for, but Cosmonaut Studios have created an interesting narrative experience here that fans of walking simulators and narrative exploration games will find a lot here to enjoy.

With it's well-constructed time manipulation mechanics and amazing voiceovers, Eternal Threads is a must have for fans of story-driven game.

Eternal Threads has an intriguing idea at its core and its small scope means that it can introduce a lot of detail to a situation, challenging players to find out everything they can before making choices. It will be interesting to see if gamers actually connect with the characters as written or if they don’t bother to get the best outcomes for the entire cast. The biggest issue with the game is that it asks for an investment of time and emotion that the narrative might be unable to support. Gameplay is both limited and repetitive, which means that the universe needs to carry all the weight of engagement. Eternal Threads has potential in terms of storytelling but it does need a little more than a solid premise to keep players watching.

A promising mystery concept that doesn't quite give players a truly mind-melting temporal puzzle.

Eternal Threads is an interesting deductive game, but its writing could have been way better.

Eternal Threads redefines story-telling when it comes to time travel concept; and while it's not necessarily a bad game, it doesn't offer enough in terms of gameplay or visuals to be considered a memorable experience.

There's little, then, in the way of meaningful deduction; rather, you're rewarded more for being thorough. [Issue#372, p.123]

Eternal Threads is still a solid game, though. I commend the writing team for nailing the characters’ behaviors and how they all balance each other. Moreover, the time manipulation mechanics are easy to use and not complicated to sift through for specific events. But it does falter in the gameplay department a bit, becoming repetitive and not all that engaging outside of opening the occasional locked door.

Eternal Threads is not the most original or ambitious game, but it still manages to craft an interesting story about time travels and six ordinary characters struggling with their lives.

Eternal threads is an apparently simple but extremely complex title, given the intricate number of timelines to be modified in order to achieve the goal. The idea behind it is interesting, as well as some narrative implications, but as a first work it has several corners to smooth out.

Eternal Threads takes a while to get going, but once everything falls in place, it can be hard to put down. The time travel element also really helps elevate the experience. It’s just that the game’s cliffhanger true ending left me unsatisfied and didn’t do enough to tie all of the narrative threads together.

Eternal Threads is a narrative driven, time manipulation game that ends up being nothing more than a walking simulator and cutscene watcher. If you're into making some binary decisions to alter some future events on the timeline, then I recommend checking out the demo first. This game is much better watched, because it's just not fun to play.

There are some cool ideas in Eternal Threads and a series of characters that I mostly liked spending time with. The mechanics work well, even If I’d have liked to see a little more puzzle-solving and interaction. When your whole game is built around its narrative, though, it’s an issue when so little of it comes together and leaves you with a satisfying conclusion. I wish I could recommend Eternal Threads as the actual process of playing through it is mostly entertaining enough, but, in the end, I was left wanting so much more.
  28. Eternal Threads almost seems aware that it’s not building a strong case for your emotional investment in whether these six people live or die. Throughout the game, mission control chimes in to remind you that these people’s lives definitely matter, that the average person has such and such number of descendants, so the fate of these six people and, more importantly, whoever comes after them could ultimately decide the fate of the world. And while that’s all technically true, I suppose, I can’t help but feel that “Eternal Threads” would have found infinitely more success laying the foundation for players to care about its existing characters instead of hinging your investment on theoretical stakes.

Eternal Threads fails to deliver anything worth the player’s time, money, or efforts. The main vague plot is surrounded by dull subplots and lacks a decent closure. The story-driven gameplay is repetitive and devoid of any mental or physical challenge except for exhaustion. The characters are badly written and their actions add little to no emotional content to the game. The only good thing about this game was the idea behind it but the lack of a good execution has turned the Eternal Threads into a “nightmare of a world” just like the future it portrays.

Marrying some frightfully clever time-scrolling with a captivating look into its characters' lives, Eternal Threads is a nosy player's dream. [Eurogamer Recommended]
  2. Once you've figured out the broad parts of how to save people, it becomes harder and harder to get the details you would like right. I spent an exorbitant amount of time trying to get Tom and Jenny to have an argument about the right thing on the right day, to no avail. It is extremely likely you'll reach a point that you go, "Fuck it, just let 'em burn!", probably more than once, at which point you should turn the game off and leave it for a day or so. This isn't a game that you should pick at for hours. It's one to put back up the shelf for a bit, until you can take it down and look at the problem with fresh eyes. You have all the time you need. Sort of.
