Pretty good game. Improved on some areas to the first game. Except for crafting weapons which was an important feature, but just not that good in this game. The controls feel twitchy and inaccurate. For normal gameplay it is okay, but climbing a tall building or tower can be very frustrating when you fall to your death being almost at the top due to bad, inaccurate controls. This is an open world first person zombie game that took me about 20 hours to complete, and can be played wit up to 4 players co op… Youre a night runner, youre infected early on in the game which adds a layer of tenseness to the game which I loved, Theres a timer when youre in buildings or running around at night that have hav to keep filled with UV lights or the the sun so you don’t turn into a zombie.. this mechanic was never annoying.. in fact I never ran out of time, but I appreciate the level of immersion there… bevasue sadly this mechanic is where the immersion ends.. Like the original Dying light the world here just doesn’t feel lived in… it’s a mess zombie playground but even more lifeless than last time.. .a generic game world feel rather than again feeling like a world that used ti be brimming with life… I did love exploring the buildings during the main story missions, but nothing ever enticed me to seek things out on my own.. no addictive hook when it came to loot as every weapon breaks, theres nothing cool to find in this world, so why bother? Why not just stick to this super boring story? Which is what I did… One thing Dying Light 2 improved on is the flow of the parquor… It still needs works, its still frustrating at times, but it miles better than the original… and the combat is great too.. I loved getting into fights with my modded weapons, however the enemies this time around feel kind of brainless and just in the way rather than a threat like the past game.. and my biggest complaing.. I absolutely hated the second half of the game… running around in Dying Light 2 just isn’t fun… its not.. I feel like Im the only person who feels this way and I have no idea how.. I died more trying to get from point a to b, than I did the enemies once I finally got to the mission…
I would love a more mirrors edge / modern assins creed style system in the future because I dreaded having to run through this city in the second half.. I didn’t mind the first half of the game where building were low and close like an old school assassins creed game, but the larger city.. awful…
Overall Dying Light 2 is a fine game, its good, the combat is great, but the loot system is a disappointment and the story is just bad, it is.. I was non invested in the world at all…
Youll have fun going through the campaign, its just a shame nothing in the world entices you to explore or to care…
I give Dying Light 2: Stay Human

Dying Light 2 is honestly a game i waited to play since they announced it way back when
the first game was such a blast to play and this game is a huge improvement but still kind of lacking
pros: - the game looks gorgeous everything looks really really good - the whole map design is superb everything feels like it was made for you to play with and parkour on - everything is
Dying Light 2 is honestly a game i waited to play since they announced it way back when
the first game was such a blast to play and this game is a huge improvement but still kind of lacking

    pros:

    - the game looks gorgeous everything looks really really good

    - the whole map design is superb everything feels like it was made for you to play with and parkour on

    - everything is open including the apartments and other buildings you can enter any building you want scavenge anything and get out

    - they improved the whole night day gameplay where in the day there are barely any zombies and you can move freely wherever you want but cant find any resources since they are hidden in building where zombies sleep and in the night the building with the vast amount of recourses are empty but it is very hard to get there because of the stupid amount of zombies out side

    - the improved combat with bandits is a warm welcome unlike dying light 1 you actually have to really fight block and dodge the bandits and raiders and not just 1 shot them

    - there is a lot of things to do in the game building to explore camps to overtake and parkour challenges to do i find myself a bit overwhelmed in the good way even after 32 hours of gameplay

    - the music is not the best but still good and immerses you enough to really feel out the game

    - a lot more zombies types and cool zombie bosses

    - they took out the guns which in my opinion is an awesome thing because they did make the first game a lot easier

    - the adding of levels and recourse management gave me a lot of stalker vibes you really need to go and search for stuff for upgrades and crafting and most of the time you cant just wing it without the whole search and craft shindig

    - although they added legendary and common items and a level system that can destroy some games *ahem ac ahem* this game makes it so much easier for you to get legendary weapons gear and level up as long as you explore the world the game will reward you handsomely with cool sht

they added 4 player co op and the armor you find has different build so you can have a full party of 4 friends where each one is a different class such as tank healer dps stealth
which in my opinion the best thing they added in the game

    cons:

    - the game is stupidly buggy i would suggest for a lot of people to wait for the patches
how buggy you ask ? i had to improvise with my glider to get to the top of the windmills just because the parkour there wouldn't work and bug out

    - the story is a big garbage dump even after they focused on making it better with the whole choose your story tale tale style it was still bad and they should have made a 15 hour generic story and focus a lot more on the gameplay and the open world

    - the map feels big and small at the same time you have the tutorial small area and the skyscraper big area and even after i explored everything it felt as if there should have been more

    - the whole choose which faction to support is stupidly ridiculous because one faction has cool weapons and improves your chance against zombies and the other just gives more parkour options really just should have gave you everything and as I said focus on making the gameplay better instead of the whole choose your thing

    - the glider like the buggy in the following ruined the game for me because yeah its fun and all but why not make a bigger area with more parkour options why is there always a gimmick yes the scorpion rope is cool and adds a new layer to platforming but why should i you use it when you can just glide there ? in my opinion the second they add a gimmick way to travers it ruins the whole point of a parkour game

    - a lot of story bull@#% like for example your character unlocks a power of sorts but only uses it in story missions and you don't get to use it in the open world and i bet they'll add it in some sort of dlc pack

    - the immunity system where you are limited by a timer to go out in the night is cool on paper but is done very poorly in the game because you can just stack like 60 immunity boosters (which are very easy to find)
and just survive the night as if there wasn't a timer in the first place

in conclusion the game only really starts to get fun after you finish the goofy stereotypical story and start to explore look around and find cool gear and missions i had my fun with the game and i do recommend it even more on co op and yes i do think zombie games need to die out but this one was just dumb fun (not counting the story of course)
but as of now the game is really unstable and in dire need of fixes and patches so for now i give this game a 7 out of 10 and after they fix it and if you play it in co op an easy 8 out of 10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I like gameplay - parkour mechanics, fight zombies. Also design is really good and looks beautiful
Story and side quests are really bad.
Craft system, lockpicking, auto leveling after game completion also annoying.
Probably you could play 500hrs there, but really complete story and most of the side quests ~40-50 hrs and after that game become very boring.
I hope we will get good story DLC, not skin ones lol.

For someone that hasn't played Dying Light '1' and is not very critical of things, this might be a good time. For those that have played the first one and liked it, this can take sometime but it will grow on you.

First off to g-sync users who need v-sync on, you have to go into video settings advanced and turn on DX12 instead of DX11 to get more than 60 fps cap, had to play for 2 hours

First off to g-sync users who need v-sync on, you have to go into video settings advanced and turn on DX12 instead of DX11 to get more than 60 fps cap, had to play for 2 hours with 60 fps before I found this out which should not have been a solution but works.

The intro is appaling, really really bad, bad characters, very little engaging and is just a narrow path with no open world which the game is known for, they have no love for in media res. After the first 30m-hour, you are a bit more free but you quickly find out that running animation and speed feels like a full diaper and the parkour part of it is pretty nausiating for those not a fan of it to start with as I find it very little impressive (which is not something you think about unless you care). Though it must be said that the speed and handling does improve after some perks, but that it even starts that bad is pretty sad and moving sideways cuts your speed in half feeling like youre on a boat in the ocean.
I was really looking forward to a lot of customization of character, clothes, hair, equipment upgrades, even a backpack, but there is none and the clothes are pretty poo.

Quests are decent but characters are quite boring though it seemed to get a bit better in the new city. The first city is actually pretty small, about the same as the size in the first game, but there is another city too so theres that. Though the animation of charcters conversing seems pretty solid and there are maaaany different sidemissions characters, if only they spent more time on the main ones.

Combat is pretty wonky at first, hit head, go back hit head go back til weapon breaks.. though there are other ways to go about it but I seem to remember that combat felt more rewarding in the first one. Though there are many ways to go about it, using the bow can be nice and you have a ton of gadgets.

The writing lines are as bad as it is in most games nowadays, saying "fckin A" when you blow up a bomb, which almost made me vomit onto my monitor. But the characters and voiceacting seems solid.

An interesting thing is that nighttime seems quite a lot less dangerous than it was in the first one, and that can be a good thing and bad.

Graphics are pretty nice, you have to remember to use the upscaler with DLSS Balanced/quality and its really quite good, especially given the size, any better is maybe not even possible to change without huge fps drop. Would be great with a distance slider, turning off clouds, npcs etc. And the game runs pretty well on my system which is better than most I guess, 3070, 8600k, 32 gb ram, ssd.

The last pretty fatal flaw is the saving system as you cannot manually save, big choices become really annoying when you have no way to go back and change it like most games Skyrim, Witcher 3, Fallout 4 where dialogue has a lot to say. So the entire game so far I'm helping the faction I don't want to help, people have died I wanted to save and you get enemies and friends based off replies that doesnt sound the way it was written so it ends up meaning something else, there are prolly over 10 things I would go back and change so far.

After about 20 hours I conclude subjectively that during the first 3 hours I was extremely unhappy about it (I've been waiting for this game for like 5 years+). But the rest have been good, I've actually wanted to get back on and play, but when I got to the new city now it feels there is a lot to explore and do.

The game seems a mix of Dying light, Metro 2033 exodus (in atmosphere and characters, animation) and Far cry in world mechanics, looting and objectives.

To those rating it a 0, why are you even on here? To those giving it 10, are you mental?
Let's all try and stay objective, this is a 6-7/10 so far.

Dying Light 2 has experience a very bumpy PC release, with major issues like crashes, not being able to launch the game, getting stuck into a death-loop that, for some of those who experience it, has taken like two weeks to get fixed, if not more.

Then we also have the absolutely terrible Keybind settings this game has released with, which as of the day of writing this review, Feb 17th, and Patch 1.0.6, has been quite improved and we only have a couple of keys and actions still hardcoded (like Mouse Wheel up/Down, or the F key for the Stomp skill, still hardcoded), a much better situation than a few weeks ago where almost everything was hardcoded.

It is still inexcusable to launch a PC game with such huge Keybind issues, and I ended up finishing the game mostly playing with my Dualshock 4 gamepad, because the alternative was to make a custom Mouse and Keyboard profile with like 20 keys remapped or more, to make them match with the actual hardcoded keys in the game.

On the Performance side of things, this game runs pretty decently on my Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 3060 Ti, especially without Raytracing, there are no performance issues on regular settings, and it performs smoothly at any resolution ranging from 1080p to 1620p DLDSR, even at 4K with the help of DLSS, I can get a bit over 60 FPS at that resolution, and the game still looks decent even when it’s not using RT.

Now, with RT enabled, the game looks quite fantastic, for such an open world design, mostly thanks to RT Global Illumination and RT Ambient Occlusion, but I believe it suffers from issues regarding how it manages memory allocation and most people are experiencing huge performance degradation when RT is used, after some time playing, even those with the beefy RTX 3090, which has lots of VRAM to spare, so definitely something odd is going on for now.
This issue hasn’t been addressed yet and it would be a shame they didn’t, because the vast array of different types of setups I’ve read on the forums, that it is affected, is too spread to consider it an isolated issue.

I’ve had this issue happen to me randomly, especially when certain cutscenes trigger, when right up to that moment, the game was running at 70-80 FPS with all Raytracing settings enabled.
Furthermore, in my case at least, my GPU usage stays at 100% when this performance degradation occurs, it doesn’t drop so I hardly think it’s a CPU related issue.

When it comes to the gameplay itself, the game offers some new ways to traverse the environments, the most notable one being the Paraglider, which is quite fun and nice to use.
For combat mechanics, we’re mostly still using melee weapons, like in the first game, but we also have some ranged options like bows / crossbow.

Although, in my opinion, some of the physics we could see in the first game have been simplified for DL2, or totally missing actually, but I believe it’s a known issue and it will be improved.

Environments look quite detailed but the game suffers from too much copy-pasted locations, especially evident for the GRE quarantine areas, and most apartment buildings we can explore or where we go for certain secondary quests. This is very disappointing, and I would rather have less GRE areas but each one being an unique, spooky, mysterious quarantine area with its own sub story, rather than “go there at night, look stuff located basically always on the same rooms, or similar placements, then grab the audio cassette from the doctor…go outside”. That was really bad, it’s fine for one or two, but all of the GRE areas in the game are clones of each other, quite bad design if you ask me.

Characters look decently animated, and textured, I have no issues with them, but most of the writing for many of them is quite average, like it’s obvious this game suffered from changes in the writing team a few years back, and something is missing or had to be changed.

I have no doubts stuff will be added for expansions but, as it is right now, I can only bump the score from my original, provisional review, to around a 6.5/10, will give it 7 here to round it up and that’s being generous.

There is a lot of potential in this title, but it was not realized for release, but I hope in a year or so it’s a much better game.

Passed only the main plot, side quests were not interested.
Not bad graphics with excellent optimization. Banal plot, but good characters. The gameplay is quite normal.
One fat minus, there are no love relationships in the game, as in Cyberpunk. Minus two points for such a missed opportunity.

Before when you'd take down a zombie or just striking one they'd limp, fall, and stumble realistically. Even kicking them back off of a ledge used to be realistic. Now it's stiff and unnatural and overall dissapointing. In general, this part remains the same DL but in a new, fresher wrapper. Some moments were very predictable, hi, but in general it did not affect my overall impression in any way.

Parkour has become more energetic, more diverse, this magic hook no longer exists, with the help of which you could save your life by jumping, for example, from the Bracken tower with a pike down...But it is not clear why it is impossible to pull up on the hook now? Is Aiden so principled or stupid?

The final words in the dialogues are often swallowed, but this is not critical.
I don't understand the new loot system, why give up what was good? - yes, things have appeared and it's interesting, but why can't some things and weapons EVEN be sold to a merchant? Why can't this junk be disassembled? I hope this will be finalized in the future.

The skill branch - Yes, so far it is much "meager" than the one available in the full edition of Dying Light 1, but it's not even about quantity, but about quality - most of the skills just moved from the last part, seriously? couldn't you make the branch more diverse? In general, I was not surprised by anything. And where are the drawings of the weapons damn? Why are there only useless drawings of all sorts of herbs and bombs in the craft?? Bring CRAFTING back into the GAME!!For 66 hours, I have never crafted bombs or herbs because I needed them, it's all falling around perfectly. In the lead of this, the LATEST crafting system is just the STUPIDEST.
After completing the game and completing all the activities, you only have to wander at night and knock out tokens for pumping useless drawings of unnecessary items. This is very upsetting...

Without any problems, I passed the game at a high level of difficulty, almost "pumping out" the entire branch and stupidly with a purple weapon in my hand. Of the minuses, I can also add the uniformity of most streets and shops. For example, I found a collector's graffiti on the corner of the wall, after a couple of hours I stumble upon something similar and thought so I already took it, but no, this is a new graffiti. It's even worse with shops and premises where there are VGM boxes, these are almost identical pavilions in which furniture can simply be located differently (and even then not always). The variety of enemies is the same, there is no one new from the zombie unit. And there are about four kinds of people in general.

But let me remind you that at the beginning I already wrote that this is the same DL but in a new wrapper with a horse price tag and so far a poor crafting and pumping system.

In general, I liked the game and I hope for its support for a long time. Thank you for the game AND SEPARATELY FOR THE FULL LOCALIZATION.

The weapons apart from 2-handed ones lack weight. Zombies feel less like a threat and more like time wasters here which takes away from the atmosphere of the game. Apart from that while combat with humans is a lot better than in the first game the AI often feels dumb. The open world itself feels like old ubisoft open worlds where you will be doing the same things over and over but they always attach a spin to each thing and make it feel unique. Some people may dislike this design I however enjoyed it thoroughly. The upgrades trees are just like in the first game genius and the progression is satisfying. The stamina change really makes a difference in the open world however at times it feels like the system was changed in a way to keep you away from progressing too fast through the story and gatekeep you from completing certain activities. The story is really boring with tons of plotholes, inconsistent characters which also often are really flat or annoying and quite cliche plot drive with a lost family member. There's also a ton of junk in terms of bugs but sooner or later they will get fixed and they weren't a dealbreaker for me. The characters aren't that compelling and, unless i'm a genius, the twists were very predictable. The music, while good, sounds like it could be in any other game or even movie with it not being too unique to Dying Light. (dialogue feels like someone wrote it not in his native language and then translated it back if you catch my drift - writing is filled with flat epithets, **** comparisons, moments straight from a B-movie like "Welcome to the paradise" - I mean Jesus Christ, give it some heart, some originality, spice, flavour, not this mumble jumble bullsh*t - It is apocalypse after all!)
So the actors generously endowed with these type of text either nailed it (Aiden) or meh or there was something like Hermann (I have a suspicion that he read the script and was like "Hey guys maybe make my character deaf and spare me this opportunity allright?")
Animations sometimes work, sometimes don't, there are many bugs to be resolved by devs.
Gameplay is fantastic, parkour mechanics, fighting system - after couple of hours in a game it just clicks and you want MORE and MORE and MORE and MORE (SUPER...HOT...SUPER...HOT) - which of course is strictly tied to skill system that feels really rewarding and well measured.
Side quests are fun like a piñata - those mini-stories were so much better than a main one.
Art-style presented at E3 was superior to the looks of final product but I mean... it's still gorgeus
Graphics is not top tier by any means, and optimalization is 5/10 (PC)/but music is memorable and sound effects are crispy and enjoyable.
Some changes like risk at night, lack of guns (but there is a bow and a spears), Weapon upgrade system, crafting etc. - Opinions about it are arbitrary for example most folks didn't play at night in DL1 and now folks complain because it is too easy and they don't feel pressure - i mean you can't both have a cookie and eat a cookie

It's a very fun game, the most of it can be repaired within a year, and I have complete trust in Techland that it's going to be 2 points better - but for now - it is what it is.

    - Graphics definitely better than the first even if I expected better
    - Optimization not exactly optimal, but if you have a high-end it can go (absurd frame rate dips aside)

Yet another broken release that is also worse than DL1. Repetitive, Boring dumb Story, this is DL for the Fortnite gen. No HDR which was promised too. Terrible Performance. You need a 1080ti for 60 fps in 1080p ultra while looking worse than comparable games.

Also why are people so childish because of the people who want italian language? It was in DL 1 why not in 2? The game is a

Also why are people so childish because of the people who want italian language? It was in DL 1 why not in 2? The game is a regression everywhere. Im not italian btw but i can understand them.

But i played in german and the dub is absolutely low effort and bad. It was okay in DL 1 Kyle was actually really good . But DL 2? Hell no. Switched to english better but for an AAA Game.....well.....

7 years 1500 people worked on this garbage? You should search a new job. It will be a success financially but cyberflop was too.

Even if bugs and Performance were perfect it would be a mediocre copy paste open world game. Why this wanna be rpg garbeg in every game smh.

Make DL 3 better but i doubt it. Even dead island is more fun.

I see there is no Afrikaans language option or even subtitles in the game, AT ALL!!!!!!! This just shows the ignorance of the developer, and a product of the capitalist society we live in, not acknowledging the minority and their heritage. #freedyinglight #freeAfrikaans #thisendsnow#right now

    +very playable
-incredibly shallow story with shallow characters as well
    -no variety in side activities
    -one of the worst endings

The story is meh - it's only slightly better than the 1st one but it's still not good.
Characters are meh, most of them could be deleted from game and no one would notice the difference.
Some dialogues were written by 5-year olds. Apart from that the game is nice, has similar feeling as the 1st one, with slight changes. Graphics are good, movement is great, honeslty I didn't expect

Also small reminder for the Italian people hating the game cuz there's no italian dubbing - Witcher 3 doesn't have one as well :D
The game has more languages than only Polish - for example French dubbing is there as well :)

The game is fun, but lacks polish and also lacks things that the first one like roaming volatiles at night, satisfying ragdoll animations when throwing enemies off roof or onto spike traps, Virals don't beg for their life occasionally ext. Plus the UI is not cool unlike the minimalistic one in DL1.

It really surprises me that DL2 has this huge amount of negative reviews. For me it went BETTER than first DL simply because gameplay took some massive improvements since first game arrived. You simply more interested what characters say, you're more involved in story and the most important part is you ACTUALLY CARE about characters, unlike it goes in first Dying Light! Yes, huge amount of troubles like weird upgrade system, a lot of some Ubisoft stuff like towers and other **** content no1 is interested in. Also a lot of looting which is also annoying. But overall i like it and i prefer DL2 over DL1 simply because of amazing gameplay compared to first game. Expand

I found this to be a rather fun game. I didnt expect to like the parkour elements as much as I did - reminded me a bit more of AC than I expected. Not completely convinced by the skill tree tho. The combat is fairly fun. The story has a LOT of dialogue so far .. tapping through with space bar and sub-titles speeds that up! More and more of the game keeps opening up for me. More and more of the game keeps opening up for me. I did have to get over dying a lot, and learn to not be freaked out by that.

However, Multiplayer is where it truly started to shine for me - once both my friend and I were playing in the same game, it became massively more fun than playing alone, which I actually found kinda stressful with the constant fear of death.

I really dont understand all the "0" reviews for this game - theres no reason for that. I assume its a bunch of haters or protesters?

Expand

In the age of Cyberpunk, Anthem, Fallout 76 and No Man's Sky - this game was actually complete upon release.

M80s, we can neither ignore Denuvo nor define the game by its presence alone. Yes, it is a disappointing inclusion. And yes, Denuvo aside, the game has fun elements.

Despite all my complaints, I initially had fun with Dying Light 2. The first quarter of the game was engaging. I think if the rest of the game played like this, I would have way more positive things to say, but the fact is that it’s just not done. This is clearly an unfinished game mired in mismanagement. I don’t blame the developers at all; the leaders and executives behind this work are responsible. What works here is clean and well done, albeit with some boring AAA niceties. After the first quarter or so, though, the game absolutely falls apart in almost every respect. I’m sad for what was produced here, but if I’m being honest, I’m more sad that I invested nearly thirty hours of my own time into this. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Dying Light 2 has proven to be a brilliant zombie game, thanks to the great parkour and combat mechanics. The story however is a bit flawed due to some really strange twists.

There is fun to be had here, but aside from a few moments of joyous parkour, it's the sort of fun you can have in dozens of other open-world games. There is certainly some added fun in co-op with a couple of friends, but in a world where we get another open-world game every week, I just cannot recommend anyone go out and buy Dying Light 2 at full price. Especially not when it came out right before Horizon: Forbidden West and Elden Ring, both of which look far more promising.
