SO many game modes to choose from, and an awesome roster of characters. If the online didn't error so much and the combo strings were a tad shorter than 3/4's of your health, then it'd be a 10/10.

the story mode is actually a test of patience. it's terrible, there are like 30 playable characters here, but in story mode you're doomed to play as 13 of them, against 3000 clones of the same 13 you are playing. FOR THREE """DIFFERENT""" ARCS. the last arc is the lazyest thing i've ever saw in a video game. just plain aweful.

i just get kinda sad with what games are becoming. especially fighting games.
back on budokai tenkaichi 2 on PS2 we had 73 characters SEVENTY THREE. and the number IS NOT INCLUDING all the transformations, different nivels of power or the freaking fusions and absorptions. and you could **** do all that IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIGHT.
damn, that was so cool. starting of as frieza 1st form against goku, and go through all frieza's forms till you get to the full power, and goku going to kaioken, SS1, 2, 3, 4.
    man, good times...

well, it may seem that i'm just trashing on this game here, but i actually enjoyed very much (not the story mode even tho android 21 is 'f'ing bad ass af) just got a little frustrated and nostalgic thinking about that game...

The core issues with this game are:
-The INSANE amount of loading screens you have to go through just to play a match, not to mention how long they are (not a problem on PC if using an SSD)
-The delay based netcode infrastructure is VERY prone to eating inputs, so sometimes you'll do a quarter circle, but get a down forward or down back and drop the combo -Same-rank ranked mode is kinda

-Same-rank ranked mode is kinda dead from Super Saiyan God rank onwards, if you want to play against other players you have to configure your matchmaking settings to allow you to fight people regardless of rank or connection

This game's multiplayer was at it's peak during season 2, now instead of guaranteed offense and oki everyone picks a team of 3 characters with invincible reversals and mashes during strings. Now you have to guess during YOUR offense whether they're mashing DP, Light, Level 3, or vanish and the whole meta game revolves around that mentality now that oki is non-existent since the snap meta is dead. It also doesn't help that most level 3s oki got nerfed into the dirt besides base vegeta for whatever reason.

The story mode is kinda worthless tbh, only reason to do it ever is if you really want android 21, but don't have the zeni to unlock her from the shop.

Party mode and arena matches WERE full of players when season 3 launched, but have since died out.

TL;DR is game is kinda dead and the netcode is delay based, story mode is terrible, and the season 3 changes made it to where when doing just a basic blockstring against anyone with invincible reversals you're playing RPS on what they'll spam mid-string or you lose your turn.

A wonderfully crafted game, does the series justice. Would have liked a bigger roster, as there are some notable exclusions. It feels very fresh and earns the right to be recognised as a bonafide fighter.

Although it has a heavy reliance on the anime, that in no way deters the awesome action and thrills that playing as these characters gives. The voice acting is as perfect as usual, the action is fast-paced and makes you feel like you are these characters. Extremely enjoyable.

The core mechanics of the game are pretty great. The only downside is some of the actual interface seems a little weird. Its more a culture thing. What appeals to the East doesn't appeal to the West the same like the Emote/Message System.

DBFZ is hands down the best DBZ game made to date.

That being said the game does have some minor problems: Audio issues cause random cracks of sound. The lip syncing for English is bad. I've had the game crash once so far. So nothing to major, but should be pointed out. As for the story, I'll give the game credit for trying something new and not just re-telling the same story

As for the story, I'll give the game credit for trying something new and not just re-telling the same story from the anime we've seen in dozens of games by now. However, it does drag on to the point were you just want to rush to the end to get the unlockable character. So points for originality, but lost them for being boring.

Just a good fighting game overall and a good buy for any DBZ fan.

Quite possibly the best 2D fighter ever made. This is why we play games in the first place. There have been decent DB games before this, but nothing close to FighterZ. The animation, combined with artistic graphics really set it apart from other games and it also beautifully complements the gameplay. It's so brisk, and is one of the greatest technical achievements in the genre and can't be avoided

The story mode is long for a fighting game, but mostly because its filled with cutscenes, some that are interesting and funny, and some that are just boring and pointless, like the same repetitive cut scenes of one of your characters reacting to fighting one of his clones. This is by far one of the worst and most boring story mode in a fighting game i've ever played. The Arcade mode is alright and pretty basic just like any other arcade mode in fighting games. The main problem i have with fighterz though is the just sheer lack of content. The only thing you can do really is play online matches with other people, and even that can be a chore since sometimes the matchmaking is just god awful and the servers will completely just **** itself. The game by no means is easily accesable if you're a casual, they have auto combos in the game which basically means if you spam Light attack or medium attack you'll perform a decently sized combo, but there is no combos list, and if you actually want to get better at the game and actually learn how to play (the in game tutorial doesnt really help at all) you'll have to go out of your way and watch youtube videos, go through many sites and google docs just to find a **** combo list (Since because yaknow, adding a move list with universal combos and character specific combos in the game is just too difficult) and learn Fighting game terms, so you'll have to outsource on that, and that alone scares tons of casuals away, hence why the casuals have already left this game. So at the end of the day, its a empty competitive fighting game that severely lacks content, with the only thing to keep you going being the community and competition. Expand

So what I mostly hate about it is that majority of your abilities are locked behind combo's where each character has only 2 abilities which can be used at any time.
It feels like all characters are similar to each other and that the abilities are just "filler" spells as everything is connected to combo's only.

It's an amazing Dragon Ball game but it's not a great fighting game, when I say not great I don't mean that it's total Shaq Fu levels of garbage or anything like that but I do mean it limits your defensive options and rewards being overly aggressive to the point where it really does feel more like a combo simulator than an actual competitive game. Other fast paced Arksys games like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue are also very aggressive but they have a ton of defensive options to keep it from feeling like a button masher. I do recommend this game as a party game if you and your friends are big into Dragon Ball but I can't imagine that getting seriously into this game and climbing up the ranks could possibly still be fun after a few weeks. Maybe a less major gripe of mine is also that combos in this game are so easy to do...I wanna feel like I actually did something cool with my hands when something cool happens on the screen, I get that new players are turned off by that but honestly...I'm not into difficult sniping in Quake or Counter Strike but you don't see me complaining to id software about how they need to make it easier for me to snipe someone in their game, because....it's not supposed to be easy to do a ton of damage to your opponent in a competitive game, this relatively lazy attitude some players have that basically equates to "Well if they don't make it really easy for me to do fireballs, dps, supers, etc., rendering all the practice that players before me had to do meaningless because joystick motions barely matter anymore than count me out" is incredibly misdirected, even if they make it easy for you to do a shoryuken, players who are better than you are still going to punish you for unsafely spamming the attack and you're still going to complain that the game isn't accessible enough. Even DBFZ players who aren't seasoned fighting game players have been complaining since the launch of this game that it wasn't as easy to get into as Xenoverse and this game is as accessible as they come without being Divekick..Overall, get it for the fun story, get it as maybe an introduction to fighting games if you're too intimidated to play something harder right now(which is totally understandable) but don't expect this game to give you the same satisfaction as something like Guilty Gear or Tekken because it isn't going to reward your knowledge of its combat to anywhere near the extent that those games do. O único ponto que me faz a não dar nota dez ao jogo, são as práticas abusivas que a empresa faz em cima dele, no qual vejo a maioria dos jogos de luta nos dias de hoje também fazendo isso. Arc System Works made this game with a lot of love, even though their known for making the guilty gear series they branch out and make games in the genre with love and respect outside of their own IP. Watching the influx of fighting game players after the popularity of the Dragon Ball series getting a modern fighting game has been a breath of fresh air in the genre.

It is fair to point out the major failing of the game is the netcode. They use delay based netcode and that is a common failing in many major fighting games. Recent competitors like Mortal Combat have much better online play for this reason. There is an option in the game to set your delay that can greatly improve your experience and makes playing with others who do the same much better.

Other than that one major failing, the blending of 2d and 3d pioneered in this title has brought back the anime inspired look of fighting games that I personally really enjoy. As a player who has never liked 3d fighting game from an aesthetic or technical perspective (3d models have open and closed stances that are not symmetrical and may give benefits to being player 1 or player 2) I really enjoyed this art style. There were easier and less expensive ways to make this game. (Im looking at you Jump Force).

Mechanically the game is solid and has depth. I know this from playing this and dozens of other fighting games. There are reviews on Metacritic that claim some characters feel the same and this is mostly because there are dynamic combo paths and you can feel those similarities strongly until you really get into the depth of what each characters paths lead to. I would say the base mechanics for Saiyan's and very similar to a large tree but they do branch out gradually. Other characters and races just plain start out very different. Its an interesting approach to making characters and one that allows players to swap between the most popular main characters with less difficulty.

In fact much of this game seems to be designed with the intention of being easy to learn. The auto combo system will allow new players to focus on the rock paper scissors aspects (attack, grab, block) that make fighting games what they are without having to put in dozens of hours learning the muscle memory of the combos up front. But there is a deeply rewarding combo system that allows you to control important factors like ending a combo in a corner for a mix up, or instead getting more hits in to build meter, or focusing on ending with a special move that swaps in a character and lets you recover health.

The continued addition of new content behind a paywall is normally not something I like to see. But considering how heavily discounted you can find this game for (today its up to 85% off) and that this developer puts love into every character released and mostly done a fantastic job balancing and responding to community feedback, I am willing to consider this an exception to the rule.

I am also willing to admit my score might be affected by not overly caring about the story mode. I played it when the game first came out. I imagine any new players might be disappointed that only the core... 13 or so characters are playable in the story arc. Story modes have never been the primary draw in my opinion and this one is probably only just decent. The real fun for me is surprisingly in the many other game modes and even largely in the training mode. (its an excellent training mode as well)

To wrap things up, I honestly believe that the Metacritic score is not very honest. Im tempted to give the game a 10/10 to balance out the people who got stuffed online and instantly gave this game a 0 and pretended that this was a bad game and that's why they lost. If you don't understand that superdashing is asking to get stuffed by 2H that's probably how you would feel. But the only Honest criticism is that the online netcode should never have been delay based, and there is a very good alternative in rollback netcode. I am not sure why ASW ignored their community in that regard, and maybe there was good reason, but it is what it is.

valorant has an interesting design, good idea of what shooters can be and a higly anticipated match for a shooter as competitive like csgo so, comparations will be made, great art design, a solid fps foundation, but it falls short in promises such his

Great fighting game, one of the best in competitive mode. Great roster for DB fans and well balanced fighterz. You can beat Jiren with Yamcha

The best 2d fighting game. Story original, a little repetitive But after a few breaks, I must immediately started playing again. Fast-paced,immersive sell shading, and optimized game

An OK fighting game about Dragon Ball. It will become boring after only 200 hours of play (fighting game with good online could hold you on much more time). I collected all achivements and there's no other point for me to stay in Dragon Ball FIghterZ.

Amazing visuals, big roster, insane learning curve. This game deserves more players. You should buy this game just for how amazing everything is, but we wary: this game is from a few years ago and most players are veterans so the on line experience can be really hard, but don't be discouraged. Still waiting for the rollback

The game is good, but unfortunately have some limitations with the controllers, the graphics looks very cool, the gameplay feels easy and tough at the same time, the music is top tier, in overall is a pretty cool game.

Best game that has been made out of the DB saga (maybe Tenkaichi 3 is a little better). The DLCs are a little annoying but the game itself is fun.

An excellent fighting game, even if you're not a fan of Dragon Ball. [Issue#270, p.54]

Polished, fast, over-the-top and most of all fun, Dragon Ball FighterZ is a fighting game worth more than just a passing glance. Its lengthy campaign alone will keep you glued to the action for a while, but its other gameplay options and Dragon Ball universe depth make it something of a must own -- whether your DBZ fan alumni, or fighting game guru. One of the year’s excellent fighting game releases.

This fighter looks great, sounds better, having enough depth and complexity to warrant its asking price. Every detail is tended to, which makes fun, challenging gameplay that is easy to learn but hard to master.
