It’s goofy, and earnest, and consciously inclusive in a way that makes me, a queer person, scared to talk about it on the internet (even after all these years). It’s bold, and comfortable in itself, and even in its weaker moments, It does feel different to the past games, but for me, it’s a good kind of different.

Dragon Age The Veilguard is a massive new world full of thoughtful stories, epic battles, and beautiful visuals to accompany them. This round of companions is among the most interesting, thoughtful, and downright charismatic, and adventuring with them made for an unforgettable journey.

While The Veilguard takes me back to the familiar world of Dragon Age, it also dares to experiment. Because that works out well (apart from some cringy writing), here is a satisfied fan. The heart of Dragon Age still beats, and with that mine too.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard refreshes and reinvigorates this storied series with enjoyable action combat, a fantastic cast of companions, and moving character writing.

With Dragon Age: The Veilguard, I basically got exactly what I had hoped for from a sequel to Inquisition. An epic story about elven gods, the end of the world and the previously little-explored nations in the north of Thedas. Plus a wonderful cast of companions who all grew on me in their own way. All of this, embedded in the same attention to detail that made Inquisition one of my favorite games. Rounded off with very satisfying gameplay that works wonderfully in its mechanics. I simply had a fantastic time with Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

With Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare has largely returned to its roots, casting aside the temptations of open world and/or live service games. Instead, Veilguard is a great mission-based RPGs with a memorable story that will leave Dragon Age fans enthralled by the revelations, an awesome combat system that perfectly blends action and tactics, and lots of loot and secrets to uncover through its 80-hour playthrough.

The game may stumble occasionally in its technical aspects, but its core—compelling storytelling, rich character relationships, and engaging combat—makes it an easy recommendation for not just BioWare fans, but any RPG fan.

A completely renewed Dragon Age that struggles with some ifs and buts, but above all plays on a very high narrative level.

Superb visuals and art for a well crafted entry that focus on the action side, abandoning the RPG roots.

The writing can be overwrought, written by committee, and occasionally forced, but it’s also a major step forward for a team that needs the win. Dragon Age: The Veilguard brings us compelling characters, excellent combat, and a world worth saving.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is, therefore, a good game that is adapted to the new public but that also preserves enough on a narrative level to please the most classic fan who accepts the approach to action-adventure and who will find, once again, a beautiful, well-constructed universe and a new episode that will give much to talk about in the coming months.

Ultimately, Dragon Age: The Veilguard delivers on the promise of every Dragon Age with its strong characters, engaging combat, and a classic BioWare role-playing experience.

Overall, the core mechanics were engaging and the world was enchanting enough to keep me coming back night after night. Even when it suffers from subpar writing or when the boss fights are a little too breezy, the dynamic, well-balanced combat, effective worldbuilding and ability to immerse the player in their role as the leader of a diverse group of adventurers who make choices that matter will appeal to a wide variety of gamers. There is much to do, much to say and much to discover around every corner in the world of Thedas.

Is this that amazing Dragon Age game we've been waiting years for? No, it's not. Is it a good game? Debatable. But it does so many right things at a few vital points that it managed to win my heart with those moments alone.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is an action-filled game that is fluid, crisp, and exciting. The missions are well-written and enjoyable, and the dialogue between companions is delightful. There’s a lot to like about The Veilguard, but there are a few bumps in the road. For older Dragon Age fans, it might feel odd to be planted in this mostly dungeon-based mission corridor, but the experience never feels like a grind and is mostly BioWare playing it safe.

With Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Bioware is returning to its more successful past. The fantasy role-playing game captivates with exciting characters and a crisp combat system, but is not quite able to revive the heights of its previous successful years.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a return to form for BioWare. Assuming itself to be more of an action game, some RPG elements have been pushed into the background as a result. The history of the world of Thedas mixes with the history of Solas and our companions, in a plot that seems unappealing at first, but blossoms in the middle of the game. With breathtaking scenery and a very competent combat system, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is yet another fantastic RPG in a big year for fans of the genre.

Dragon Age The Veilguard is the quintessential mass-market AAA, with all the qualities and shortcomings that implies. It's a great adventure with accessible, polished and well-thought-out content, even if the freedom isn't there. This is obviously a major flaw for an RPG, and one that is likely to anger many players. Ironically, in seeking to be open-ended at all costs, while avoiding taking risks, the game commits some major clumsiness in terms of writing. Veilguard is much better than the studio's previous titles, but it still lacks the arguments capable of reconciling it with gamers.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard clearly wants to put epic action above all and sprinkles it with deeply emotional moments. Instead of choices and slow, tactical combat, the focus is clearly on a pre-composed story and powerful, action-packed battles. But if you engage with it, BioWare delivers one of the most thrilling role-playing games of recent years.

The combat is wildly different and the tone varies, but the characters here are the same vital, meaningful core that BioWare is known to deliver. While far removed in many ways from the fantasy franchise I grew up loving, Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes its place by prior adventures in Thedas with pride. Like the Hero of Ferelden, Hawke, and the Inquisitor before them, Rook shows that Dragon Age isn't out of tricks just yet.

A genuinely enjoyable, gorgeous action-RPG that lacks the storytelling nuance of previous Dragon Age games.

This game generally falls within the category of a decent ARPG. The combat feels satisfying, and the progression system provides a rewarding sense of growth. The main quest and especially the final chapters deliver plenty of excitement. the characters’ narratives lack intrigue, and there are aspects that may disappoint fans of the series.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a worthwhile return for the RPG franchise. Despite some oversimplification of mechanics and uneven writing, the new combat style and interesting characters and narrative choices make for an engaging fantasy adventure.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is undoubtedly a competent ARPG, with some commendable elements in its combat and exploration. However, it's disappointing that, aside from the impressive art design and nostalgic appearances of certain characters from previous entries, it feels like BioWare has strayed from the series' original essence. The familiarity is there, but it lacks the deeper connection that longtime fans might have hoped for.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a work that comes to the proverbial test after ten years. It is immediately clear how complex the project was and how the videogame world has changed over time. With a good combat system, a convincing narrative and a good development of the relationships with the other characters, on some points it does not fully succeed in reaching the objective. I admit that so many words are actually too many, and I actually hope that someone has gotten to the end... but there really could not be another analysis for such a delicate work. Sales will decide whether it will be the actual relaunch of the series. In addition, of course, to us players of the franchise.

All told, Veilguard is an enjoyable RPG with rich character customization and striking visuals, especially within the cyberpunk-inspired Minrathous. The freedom to shape Rook's backstory and outlook is a welcome touch, yet it is offset by the reduction in meaningful choices and the series signature moral complexity. While Veilguard might not capture the epic scope of Origins or the tightly woven, character driven narrative of Dragon Age II, it is a solid entry that hints at a new direction. If future Dragon Age titles can re-embrace the far-reaching choices and branching narratives that once made the series iconic, they may yet recapture the magic of Thedas. For now, Veilguard is a promising — if somewhat pared down — addition to the Dragon Age legacy, and fans of the series may find it worth exploring.

In this “fantasy California” no one dares to hurt someone’s feelings – not even a necromancer or a hired killer. It’s a shame that dialogues are this bad, because the rest of the developer team was actually working hard: combat is fun (if a bit too simple), and some levels are outright gorgeous. [Issue#266]
  28. When the long-awaited game comes out clichéd, we have no words to describe our disappointment. Unfortunately, Veilguard fell far short of our expectations.

Regardless of the developers' goals, Veilguard feels like a game designed and assembled in parts. However good any idea, scene or concept is - and there are some excellent ones - it isn't bolstered by those beside it. Instead, each feels like a dazzling distraction from where it falls short in depth, consistency and trust in players to engage with a complex world. [Issue#405, p.102]

The party members are a delight to spend time with and woo. The combat is some of the most fun I’ve had in a while with an action RPG. It is just a shame everything else falls short. The exploration is far too uninteresting, the story is haphazardly put together, and the mission structure is too linear. There is a good enough RPG to enjoy in Dragon Age: The Veilguard for diehard fans like myself, but this is certainly no second coming of BioWare. I have disliked each new Dragon Age more than the previous one and, unfortunately, The Veilguard continues that.

Though it's ultimately held back its shortcomings, the other highs of Dragon Age: The Veilguard - its characters, its storytelling, and its sense of personality - make the game easy to like despite the flaws. The issues may be harder to look past for some, but others will find joy in the things it does do well.

The latest chapter in the Dragon Age saga successfully combines the best of semi-open-world gameplay with a balanced and engaging combat system. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard falls short of previous installments in areas like side quests, story choices, and dialogue depth, it excels in combat quality, world design, and audiovisual presentation, delivering some of the most epic battles in the series. This game is a roller-coaster experience; at its peak, it entertained and amazed me, yet at times, its lack of depth dampened my enthusiasm.

The Veilguard has some fun combat and exploration mechanics, but in no way do they redeem a sterilized, safe, inoffensive, fully "Netflix" and badly written version of a dark fantasy world that has little to do with the series' past.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is an exceptional-looking game with initially exciting combat, but it’s let down by uneven storytelling that makes it duller than it should be.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a colorful but absolutely passable game that lacks any depth. It will not only disappoint the fans of the previous parts, but also will not give joy to the new ones.

This isn’t the end of Dragon Age that I was expecting - in this respect, the game must be rated very low. However, as an action RPG with flair and a beautiful fairy-tale world, it turns out to be decent, and sometimes even more than that.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is full of heart and soul. It’s also got some great ideas. Conversely, many of those ideas feel like they struggle to get out of first gear - and those that do find it harder still to make it to third. Sometimes the cleverest ideas are undermined by other systems or decisions. Simultaneously feeling polished to within an inch of its life in places and utterly half-baked in others, it’s as baffling as it is engaging; as frustrating as it is fascinating.

BioWare's worst dialog, trivial puzzles, annoying level design, and tedious combat. My diagnosis: complete apathy.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard fails to live up to its predecessors and ranks among the worst in its genre and the franchise. Despite its potential and success with gender diversity, its attempt to modernize feels poorly executed. Visually, it’s pleasant, but it requires adjusting settings for optimal performance. It’s playable but it is best suited for people who aren't particularly interested in the plot or story.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard misses the essence of earlier Dragon Age games, turning the dark fantasy world into a childish fairytale with shallow dialogue and limited, impactless choices. The game is linear and fails to honor the rich lore, intriguing characters, and complex choices the franchise is known for. Although the combat is smooth and visually impressive, it lacks depth and doesn’t fit the world.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a true tour de force from a company that knew it had to give its all to stay relevant thirty years after its founding—and it has undoubtedly succeeded. [Recommended]
  2. There is so much else that is impressive and charming about Veilguard. The absurdly elaborate and expensive finales that cap off companion questlines; lavish, unique areas rolled out for a visit or two then never again. How story moments of real threat and menace stopped me in my tracks, because it turned out that Bioware wasn’t disinterested in this stuff, just saving it for when it really counted. The fantastic prose and worldbuilding in the huge glossary, filled as you find notes and items.
