Thank you Bioware for one of the best RPG experiences I've ever had. But DA:I suffers from the same flaw of DA2 where the boss battle wasn't as grand an occasion as the game deserved.

The game is a bit overly large with tons of pointless side quests, but it runs relatively well, has a good story, with extremely well written characters, a given with bioware, the problems mostly come because its trying to spread over too much but in the era of overly short games this should be rewarded instead of punished.

A lot of the bad reviews are jokes really.
Firstly, the game was PC then console. The Controls are fine as in the other versions. The Graphics aren't locked and I run fine at max settings 1920 x 1080
Stone looks real and so does skin and leather and so on. Get a good card as stated. My gripe would be the odd CTD but each version has done that, that's just something that all games do,

My gripe would be the odd CTD but each version has done that, that's just something that all games do, even Witcher. Though the research table, I just cant use it for some reason.
I think some people want a DA:O type game, but that just cant happen in the story, DA2 was worse for bad re-use of areas, though I loved most of the game.
DA:I is better and worse than DA:O Because it's Graphically brilliant and plays brilliantly with nice Dragon fights. You have your own Castle and Troops and so own. The down part is the romance isn't as good as DA:O but much better than DA2 as you only got kissed 3 times in that.
Yes there could be improvements to Relationships, but all in all it's Brilliant.

In all honestly they want all games to be practically the same and over react if anything is slightly different. The RPG is highly endangered to this homogenization effect. For this reason Metacritic is not entirely the most reliant, because niches get attacked by the wider audience. This is a niche game, don't doubt that for a second. Bioware willingly creating niche games shows they are not nearly as lost as people like to say. The real issue is that the genre RPG should be split into more than one genre, so that people don't buy a game expecting one type of experience and are shocked to find something else. If you liked Baldur's Gate than you will appreciate this game. If you are a general fan of old school style RPG's you know by know that developers try new things with each installment. That exploration and questing is the best part of the experience. That you can't fully grasp how exceptional these games are until you've played them for 50 hours, and even then you are just barely getting started. If you are the type of person who likes to play one game for months on end, than this is the game for you. If you would rather get something down in one setting, or jump into some quick matches than this game will not please you by any means. If you get bored easily and need something shiny and new to entertain you every day and are likely to have a tantrum if you don't get it, than this is not the game for you. It will not mix well with any semblance of a casual audience. It is not a game for the impatient, but for those who like to take the scenic route. Go for skyrim or call of duty if you are looking for a more easy pick up easy put down experience. Not knocking those games, just saying they have a different design to their core. This game is meant to be experienced over many, many hours. It is meant for you to get lost in the confusion, the experience, to seek answers and discover new things. It is massive, intense, beautiful, inspiring and thoroughly immersive. A great accomplishment for bioware as a whole. Expand

It's easy to get lost in Bioware titles, but this one brings a whole new meaning to the term.

Environment: The semi-open (big maps) was an interesting concept to me, this meant a structured path to follow while still being free to roam a bit. I believe it was blown a bit out of proportion of how big these maps really are though. About double is what I expect would have truly given this description a real meaning, as not once did I actually have to search for something. That said the environments are beautiful and great eye candy to fill you screen time with.

Gameplay: In these terms, I did not quite feel as engaged with the gameplay in Inquisition. While by no means dead boring, It isn't inherently exciting either, after about an hour or two of combat I felt myself yearning for more story. You roam the map for a bit, get a little side quest, run into a rift to close, complete and move on. Needless to say, closing a rift gate could have been a bit more involving than kill these, and press assigned key to close.

Story: It's Dragon Age, full of history, characters, simultaneous plots, and stories intertwined. The demons are really the least interesting personalities, and they could have made them more charismatic. Otherwise, same old great plot.

Content: Some say too much, but IMO the more the merrier. Some pieces did not fit as well as they should such as crafted, and mounts. But still full and rich.

I HAVE PLAYED THIS GAME ON PC AND PLAYSTATION 4, I HAVE MORE HOURS ON PC.

From a fantastic story to a massive open world, this game ALMOST is exactly what I want out of a western RPG.

Dragon Age: Inquisition boasts some of the best visuals in the roleplaying genre, right up there with Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Right when the game starts, you are introduced to a fantastic beautiful world hand created by bioware's amazing art directors.

Gameplay for me is where the game is very strong. The combat feels very refined, the open world has a lot of dangerous areas to explore and dungeons to delve into. Although the side quests can get very monotonous at times and very grindy, overall the world is full of very fun things to do. Along with all of this however is a very good perk tree and some really cool character leveling systems for a whole party, the inventory is also organized very well and the UI feels very good but the PC controls feel sluggish and just very clunky. Tactical view is back but the camera feels a bit to close to characters but it is still nice to see it return and overall tactical view is very good in outdoor areas.

Story is really the most inconsistent part of this game and where it's really really good at some points, occasionally you won't feel as invested with the characters as much as Mass Effect and KOTOR. The story opens up incredibly however, putting you in the shoes of a person vilified by society for something that you did not do. Throughout the first part of the game, you are trying to build up the inquisition and trying to show groups like the Chantry, Mages and Templars how the inquisition can be trusted. Overall, the characters you meet such as Cassandra, Dorian, Varric and Solas are very memorable.

I have always thought that the whole Dragon Age franchise has always kind of paled in comparison to Bioware's other masterpieces such as KOTOR 1 and Mass Effect 2.

The Final Verdict is an 8/10
+ Combat feels refined and a major step up from Origins and 2
    + Most Characters are memorable
    + Fantastic Visuals
    + Good Roleplaying Mechanics
    + Good UI
    + Tactical View
    - Some Repetitive Quests
    - Reused Assets
    - Bad PC controls

The graphics were really great, and being open world meant that you had more freedom to explore such an attractive environment. The combat was also improved on from Dragon Age 2, as there is more tactical accessibility which can make boss fights and fights with dragons challenging and diverse. It also maintains its fun and exciting look as opposed to the dull look of Origins. Overall the combat is definitely a lot of fun.
The characters are also a positive for me. There are many diverse party members who are all very unique and interesting. Character interaction is also accessible which is something I sorely missed in Dragon Age 2. The approval system is also great as it fits that all your party members are very different characters, and having your choices impact how your companions view you was a very welcome addition to the game. It was also a lot of fun seeing characters from previous Dragon Age games and seeing how things have changed for them and what they are currently doing.
However, the storytelling is probably what lets this game down the most. The side quests are pointless, and it would have been good to have some more interesting side quests that are just more than a one off quest. I feel that as a result of the success of Skyrim, Dragon Age has tried to copy a lot of the elements of Skyrim which does not always fit in a game such as Dragon Age. There are times where the game drags on and really become tedious, which is a major reason why I only have one playthrough for this game.
The main story also is not perfect, resorting to quite a few cliches and uninteresting subplots. And the final battle was very disappointing as there was nothing really to distinguish it from a regular boss battle. Maybe I have been spoilt from the previous two Dragon Age games having such epic conclusions, but Inquisition's conclusion really fell flat. The interaction post final battle was an aspect I loved in Origins and it was disappointing how limited it was in Inquisition.
Overall this game had great characters and fun combat. But the story was really a let down. However, I still had a lot of fun with the game and would still recommend it to others.

Why is the average user score so low? Because in modern AAA Gaming a game is supposed to hold your hand, and spoon feed everything you need to figure out the game.

Dragon Age Inquisition does what Origins was meant to do, and goes back to the roots of CRPGs that BioWare revolutionized in the 1990s. Most people who don't like this game couldn't figure out how to get out of the Hinterlands, a massive, sprawling open-world area that introduces the game play and the plot. And the best part is, in terms of world development, it is the lamest part of the game. But it is merely an intro area, and there are 11 more like it, that all are loaded with beautiful lush environments perfectly textured on the amazing Frostbite 3 engine. You can explore every corner of Thedas, deserts, mountains, dungeons, caves, jungles, forests, river basins, coastal vistas, foothills, marshlands, etc. etc. etc.

The insurmountable amount of side-content rivals Baldur's Gate 2, though it is not as high quality, it is much higher quality than many who think it is chock full of fetch-quests, which it is. But why rate a game based on the chores that aren't required to finish it? Should I write a negative review of Assassin's Creed 2 because of the achievement to collect all 100 of those flags? No, because you don't have to do it, it's optional content. The optional, open-world areas are loaded with awesome puzzle quests, treasure hunts and companion loyalty missions that are great fun.

However this game takes the cake with its main quest. The best cast of companions I have encountered in a BioWare game since Baldur's Gate 2, and definitely the best villain I have encountered since Baldur's Gate 2 as well. Also, and this is the most important part to me, this is the best gameplay I've encountered in a BioWare game since... yes that's right, Baldur's Gate 2. This fantastic sequel was nothing if not the worthy spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2 that Dragon Age Origins was supposed to be. The gameplay comes damn close to being as good as Dungeons & Dragons on the infinite engine. It combines the tactical camera style and complicated levelling systems of Origins with the fast paced and immersive style of Dragon Age 2, and adds in many great new mechanics, like a crafting system that is likely the best I've ever seen in a video game.

The main quest is loaded with top-notch writing, and an excellent decision tree, this game's story is akin to Witcher 2 in that certain missions are entirely different quests altogether, depending on what decisions you made in a previous quest. The quests are all generated with a fantastic environment design, ethereal atmosphere from an amazing soundtrack and well themed sound effects and visuals. This games story missions were as immersive as the ones in Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Last but not least, the conclusion to this games' story at the end of Trespasser features jaw-dropping lore-exposition and a plot twist that gave me the same emotion feels as the ending to The Last of Us, and has me more than a little bit excited for Dragon Age 4.

    Pros:
Graphics -11/10 (DAAAYUM) the best graphics of any RPG to this day, Andromeda might have richer textures but the environment design of it and any other RPG bows to Inquisition.
Game play -10/10 Dragon Fights are as epic as they are in Baldur's Gate 2, no... they are even more epic.
Story -10/10 -I regretted a decision so badly for the first time since the first Mass Effect game.
Side content -9/10 -The only reason it's not as good as Baldur's Gate 2, but this is still the best RPG I have played in 14 years, and ranks among my 3 favorites of all time. BioWare has done it again.

    Cons:
None but the blighted opinions of nitpicking A-holes who were sad that this game didn't hold their hand through it all, this game is a true, hardcore CRPG. Witcher 3 treats you like a 5 year old and guides you all the way through white orchard. Dragon Age Inquisition is a hardcore game that assumes you are smart enough to figure out how to get past the Hinterlands, which apparently was a bold assumption given all the people who can't figure it out. That's the only reason Witcher 3 has a higher userscore.

I saw the user reviews and was appalled at some of the things said of this game. The dialogue and the characters are diverse and appropriate for a game that deals with so many things like racism and addiction. Bioware should be applauded for that. Now, every character is not a super model, but should they be? No, you should be attracted to Solace for his intelligence and thoughtfulness, to Sera for her childishness and yet still amazing competence and simple wisdom. I could go on, but every character was unique and, if they had a pretty face or not, had a real personality. Further, They each interacted with the world and each other and the inquisitor in interesting ways.

Now, I agree that the controls could be better, and the abilities were limited, but I mitigated that by learning to deal with it (Planescape: Torment, anyone?) which has it's own charm, anyway, and then by using lots of passive abilities. I looked for interesting combos and blah blah it's not important. Not a perfect game, particularly in the system aspects, and the GIGANTIC amount of collectibles, but its a direction I want to see them refine and improve and continue to GET RIGHT.

And can I say, They surprised me with some things, and I was even mistrusting of mages because that's what Dragon Age teaches you to do with mage companions, and this is a feat I truly appreciate in well written video games.

The good news is that is that DA:I is a very good and fun game. The bad news is that it has ONE major flaw. It's a pretty big flaw, unfortunately, but I'll talk about that later. First, the good things. DA:I addresses the complaints DA:2 received about the geographical diversity. The maps are very varied in DA:I. Desert, grass fields, snow, storm islands, jungles, there's everything. The areas are huge and well-designed, it's obvious they put a lot of effort into them.

The main story is great and has several twists. Plenty satisfying choices to make. No spoilers in this review, but there are some ways DA:I connects with the other two games and I absolutely loved that. It truly feels like a shared universe. There are also several moments in the story when you sit on a throne and you can cast a judgment and decide the fate of characters. A minor thing, but it adds flavor. It makes you feel like the leader of the Inquisition.

I also love the new companions, interacting with them, learning more about them and doing their personal quests. I especially liked Cole, who is a unique character. The combat has been upgraded and it's fluid and satisfying. Class specializations actually feel like specializations and they change the feel of the combat. I played as a Knight Enchanter and I loved it, I felt very powerful.

One new feature in DA:I that I didn't expect to like that much is armor customization. More specifically, dyeing your armor and changing the materials it's made from. I had a LOT of fun with that. I really wish more games had that. I also had fun customizing and crafting equipment for my companions. And there is a lot of variety in armors. More specifically, mage armor. I generally play as a mage and there wasn't a SINGLE cool robe in DA:O.. In DA:2 they finalyl added cool robes and in DA:i there are even more robes, and you can customize their appearance!

I also liked customizing the appearance of the fortress. It's highly customizable. I played as an Elven Mage, so I decorated it with Dalish and Circle Tower themes. I also built a Mage tower, a garden and an infirmary. It's minor and mainly visual stuff, but it enriches the experience. It helps with the immersion into the world.

Now let's talk about that one major flaw. Most side content is collect shards and kill enemies... There are only a few interesting side quests. And this is a trend I've sadly noticed in recent games. Those huge maps I was talking about feel kind of empty. The NPCs can feel lifeless and there isn't much interaction with them. It's unfortunate. This is the worst thing about this game. But the other areas are great. I still had a lot of fun playing this. It took me over 200 hours to do pretty much everything. Again, just like in the case of DA:2, I feel like the criticisms are way too harsh.

    Seriously, give Inquisition a chance.

One of the most impressive RPGs, where you can decide what to do with the world and a lot of characters in it, so you can play a role you believe in and build yourself (unlike many modern RPGs, where your choices make no sense and never change serious things in the world).

The main boss is just too weak and grind can make you way too strong. But the DLC fixes that issue, so we can

I've spent over 200 hours and played two times.

What makes this game great are companions, game play, variety of weapons, classes, talents. Story is good but feel like too much pushed to be center of universe. It is bit worse than DA:O, it is faster and lost feel of turn-based strategy. Don't know why but i love this game anyway.

The game makes you aware that you matter. It is extremely easy to fall in love with both the lore, your companions, your own character that has decent customization, and the beautiful graphics itself. 10/10

i like DA and all.....good graphics, even now at the time of writing (2019), not all PR games can boast the same. Large locations, beautiful music, plot .... Passed all the parts with all the additions. For me, this series will always be the standard of quality

This game is far from bad. The story has its moments and the game was very enjoyable. The combat was mediocre however and some of the side content was a bit weak.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a game I have enjoyed multiple times. The more I play, the more I notice the changes to the story and my agents as I chose different paths. The game is beautiful in design, looks and plays nice on decent hardware, from my experience anyway.
Plenty to do to keep busy when wanting to take a break from the main story whether it be the side quests, inner circle

Plenty to do to keep busy when wanting to take a break from the main story whether it be the side quests, inner circle quests or farming metals and plants to create potion, bombs, weapons and armour. The game is the second best in the series in my opinion and while not without its flaws, a truly enjoyable experience that I will continue to enjoy.

My first review was really negative, that was 2 years ago. Recently I gave it another try and enjoyed it. Been playing 70 hours so far and will enjoy as many side quests, fights and views as possible before I finish the main quest.

After 120 hours in game I definitely agree that the world is bloated with collectibles , the side quests are forgettable and boring , but the main story is engaging and fun . The lore is deep and the characters are well developed .
The best thing about the game are definitely the companions , top quality complex and intriguing

This game is definitely better than the second part, but not up to the first.

I really liked the graphics at the time, a fascinating story. Some mechanics were infuriating, but the side quests were the most tiring - they are really terrible. But in general, the impressions are positive.

It's a good RPG and a solid game, but hasn't enough charisma to hook the player. It lacks deeper mechanics and a better history.
On the other hand is a beautiful game, with extensive landscapes, interesting characters, interesting "castle" ownership and funny combats.
