    Reading all the mixed reviews made me very skeptical of this game. However, I found an affordable version online and grabbed it (36 euros) just because of BioWare's past. I am still a huge fan of Baldurs gate II: SoA, they don't make games like that anymore (no one does).

    Anyhoo, its by far the best RPG I've played this year, personally, no fan of divinity which comes off as very childish to me. I enjoy the environment, characters, and combat. There are definitely some problems with the game too, however, none are game breaking or detrimental to immersion (very important for story driven games). The problems are all mechanical due to poorly porting from consoles. The UI, and tactical cam can be annoying, clunky at best, and not having any hot keys other than 1 to = is just weird.

    All these problems are fixable, and i'm pretty sure they will be fixed (in the least improved).    … Expand

    This has everything a Bioware game should have. Good characters, good story, and an awesome world. People seem to just be complaining about nit-picky things that aren't really issues. The combat is great, even if the tactical cam isn't really good. I play on PC, and I am very pleased with the gamepad controls. It's intuitive and fun, unlike the last two games(which I loved with a passion).This has everything a Bioware game should have. Good characters, good story, and an awesome world. People seem to just be complaining about nit-picky things that aren't really issues. The combat is great, even if the tactical cam isn't really good. I play on PC, and I am very pleased with the gamepad controls. It's intuitive and fun, unlike the last two games(which I loved with a passion). This game ties in with Origins, II, and almost every book very well. The characters are all great. I was afraid that Varric would be the only interesting companion, but they're all great in their own way. This game is also very pretty. I play on maximum settings and the lighting alone is impressive.

    I have had a few minor hiccups with the game, like soldiers training not hitting where they were supposed to, or people standing in benches, but nothing important. People are overreacting about bugs, but this is a huge game, comparable to Skyrim, and it has less than a tenth of the problems. I've only had the game crash once, and I have already spent 60 hours in the game.

    Basically the complaints here are superficial or people not giving it a chance after Dragon Age II. The gameplay, graphics, story, and characters are top notch, and it is definitely the newest RPG to sink several hours into.    … Expand

    Spent hours getting lost in and addicted to this game, hours, and I -still- haven't even scratched the surface yet! It's really good to finally be back in Thedas with a Dragon Age game that actually does the series justice, as well as redeems its name after the mess that was Dragon Age 2!

    The game is fantastic, vibrant, beautiful and amazing - with epic characters, and graphics.    I'm very impressed with the game, as where the competent reviewers who reviewed the game.     The game is fantastic, vibrant, beautiful and amazing - with epic characters, and graphics. Assuming you have a good PC. (i7, 970)

    The one complaint I had is it shipped with a frame limit of 30 fps on the cutscenes! Here's the fix :

    -GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+ (add that from Origin>game properties, or manually add it too the exe command line.

    Don't listen to these pirates who are, what it sounds like hating on the DRM which is limiting them from stealing it.    … Expand

    Graphics: The character facial texture, movement and lip syncing is excellent. Facial texture is best I have seen in game thus far. Building textures are on par with industry standard RPG.
    Performance: On ROG G750JS, I get occasional choppiness during cut scenes. During game play this is not noticeable at all. The control is immediately responsive and menu pop up is immediate.
    Story : This is far less personal story compared to DA1 and DA2. In this you are building the Inquisition of the old as its leader. If you have God complex, this is certainly a welcome storyline.
    Combat mechanics : AI is reasonable. You do occasionally need to go into Tactical view to order potion to be consumed or direct a focus fire. However, I've so far have found that Tactical view is largely non-essential compared to DA1 and DA2; where tactical view was essential.
    Sound : Excellent voice over, all characters are fully voiced with 2 different voice option per gender available to player.
    Character customization : Extensive enough that I would recommend Youtube viewing.

    Overall I find this game a worthy successor to popular DA franchise. The scheme of the game has changed substantially but largely for the better. No bugs have personally been found yet except for possible game freeze after alt tabbing.    … Expand

    Ok... this is officially one of my favorite RPG games, and I rank it right up there with the likes of Skyrim (still my ultimate fave). I have played all games in the series, and I like this one as much as DA:O. The game mechanics are more action-oriented, which is awesome, but you still have control over the action with the pause-and-play button if you like. Of course, as you progress through to the end, dragons eventually become more sport than game-ending frustration but your first foray into dragon slaying might make you feel like breaking your controller.

    Graphically, it's beautiful... as long as your PC can handle it. One thing I do appreciate is the resolution slider (wish more games had this!) which allows you to custom tweak the variables along side the regular options. This is a HUGE game, and 150 hours in, I still haven't fully explored every area, and there are still a few main quests left. That's some pretty good bang for your buck. It definitely needs a good patch to fix some of the issues, but after all this time it only crashed twice (after LOOOONG play sessions) so I'd say it's fairly stable. Final verdict: get it and start exploring. Taking one point off for bugs, otherwise this is GOTY material for me.    … Expand

    Many fans of the Dragon Age franchise are finding the third instalment in the franchise to be disappointing but I think the exact opposite with this game being one of the most fun experiences I have had in a long time with a fantasy game.     By far the best game I've played this year. Controls are smooth, the world is rich and largely fulfilling. I've put over 100 hours into this game and I still have not finished it

    DAI is a wonderful game with an incredible amount of content, but the awful and illogical controls (due to a half assed console port) prevent it to be the best RPG to date. Thankfully this is something Bioware can fix with a patch, the sooner the better.

    In my opinion this is the 2nd best dragon age game. The first one was the best total freedom for character development and what not. This is 2nd because character development is really restricted to 6 classes and no multi class. So you cant have a little magic with your sword swinging. But the story line is amazing the graphics are really good, the branches could have been more butIn my opinion this is the 2nd best dragon age game.     I admit I only bought the game because I loved DAO so much. Despite the dev's reassurance that DAI would be much better than the failed sequel, I was quite convinced I won't like it. >.> I mean, they couldn't make it more opposite to my decisions in DAO even if they consciously tried. Cullen was a fanatical, murdering lunatic in DAO - here, he's an advisor. Leliana and Morrigan were myI admit I only bought the game because I loved DAO so much.     And the character creator only stregthened my suspicion. Seriously, it's a most **** up CC I've ever seen. Counterintuitive (e.g. if you want to move something up, you have to move your mouse down), imprecise, it's extremely difficult to make a character look the way you want. And when you're finally more or less satisfied, you start the game, and... his lips are so shiny it can blind you and his strawberry blond hair is lemon yellow. That's why it's not 10, btw.

    But once I actually started to playing, things immediately started to change, despite my best effort to stay grumpy. I didn't expect I'd like Cassandra and Solas so much - and all the others. There are some I like more, they are some I like less, but that's in fact a proof what a great job writers did, creating so many characters with distinct personalities.

    If you want more from a game than just killing and explosions - if you want a fantasy world, where you can build relationships with other characters (including, but not limited to, romances), where NPCs are not the stereotypes, and where you can make meaningful decisions, then this is the game for you.

    I also like the sidequests, though there could've been fewer. >.> But, at least it's not like in other RPG, where you Chosen Hero of Errand Boys is the only one in the world who can go into the forest half a mile behind a city to pick a few berries, or go hunt five bears to give their skins - to a hunter. Here, you do things for yourself. If you go collecting and hunting, it's because you want more resources, point.

    The world is not fully open, but that suits me. Open worlds are amazing at first, but once the 'wow' moment is gone, it's rather tiresome and boring - I've never completed Skyrim, for that reason. DAI is a good balance between 'freedom' and the story.

    I read a lot of complaints about controls, but I can't confirm it. It did take some time to get used to it, but that's what the prologue is for.

    The game is not perfect, but I am willing to overlook that, because it's a lot of fun, and quite addictive. Not as great as DAO (how could it be, without Zev? xD) but still best I played in the last few years.    … Expand

    Ambitious effort that is marred by some problems. On the XBone I'm havin serious problems with the software hanging up during conversations between main characters - had to skip several important conversations completely by hitting X to force the game to continue.

    #1 dislike: this is the mother of all grinds! Too many mind-numbing side quests; I'm @ 98 hours in and still not done. (admittedly i do search for loot everywhere. At least twice.
    I'd say if you liked Origins, this is worth a try, if not a harcore fan though, wait until price drops.    … Expand

    This Game is Probably One of my Favorite Games of all time, Unfortunately it still hasn't dethroned Dragon age origins In my eyes. So Lets start off with character Creation, Its Probably One of the best Systems i have seen in a while Its not just a bar you go through and Choose what Nose Looks best you can actually shape It and mold it to your liking. I've seen alot of people Complaining about How cut scenes are laggy but from what I've seen they Didn't realize that the cut scene's are capped at 30 fps. Then you have the animations in the game (Opening a door etc) Those are Unfortunately capped at 30 fps as well so you can be having a perfectly smooth 60 fps but when you open a door While the game is smooth the Door will always be at 30, Same with birds by the way.

    and then you have something called Dragon age keep The idea is good Yes and when it works its amazing Unfortunately For me It didn't and I didn't realize it until I was 30 hours in and I wasn't about to redo everything just for that. and it really bothered me too because I romanced morrigan and i wanted to see how my warden was doing but instead I was told I was a female elf Whom had died -_-

    now let me tell you I not gay at all i am far from it but both of the Straight male Romance options were so Boring I was tempted to romance Dorian and that is saying something. Alot of the Negative Reviews i have seen are from people who hadn't gotten out of the hinterlands and let me tell you first hand GET OUT OF THE HINTERLANDS I Bought the inquisitors Edition so I played double of what the game costs and I literally had it sitting in my closet collecting dust Because of how bored I was. (That is until I got out of the hinterlands) and just a warning for people This game rely's heavily on side quest's so if you rush the game (Which you really can't but if you can manage to) you can finish in 6 hours at least but me personally I am 35 hours in and at the max level ( well the soft cap) and I've only done about 4 main quests.
    If you have played the past games and are planning to import your saves Make sure you Export them on the dragon age keep. I can't stress this enough I missed out on so much because i didn't Press a single button.

    Can I recommend this game? Yeah But only if you are willing to put up with the occasional Crash and Glitch. and trust me those Glitches can get really bad I had Fought the Ferelden Frost back which In my opinion Is the hardest Dragon in the game and When I had finally killed him He Was dead but the game Didn't see him as dead so he was just sitting there Not attacking me just... Sitting there another Time I was fighting a dragon I got Hit and went Flying In the air and When I got back to the Ground I was Nearly Dead and the Dragon was fully healed again.    … Expand

    Graphics. I would say they are at/around Crisis 3 in world/texture detail, which is pretty damn good for the amount of world content (deserts, forests, plains, mountains, snowy tundra, you name it) and objects (from weapons and armor to wall hangings to desks to farmers tools etc etc).

    Story. TBH: it seems run of the mill if you only play up until Skyhold and never played DAO/DA2 or took the time to set up your history at dragonagekeep. But if you do play past Skyhold, and you have invested into the story thus far and the lore behind the game, it is really very well done. I found myself deeply immersed every time I moved the story forward, and that's what I look for in an RPG.

    Characters: There are some really tough choices to make this time around, and the game is very LGBT friendly, for which I am thankful. Bioware took the training wheels off the dialogue wheel as well. What you see are options like "I am sorry for your loss", "What's life without a little death?", "You need to pull yourself together", and "Just get back to work" all at once, with both major and minor consequences for your choices throughout the game. This, of course, affects quest lines, the ending, and romance options constantly.

    Side note: Characters have their shoulders pushed forward, for whatever damn reason IDK, but its REALLY awkward. Maybe they will patch it. I hope so. Not really a negative per say, but close.

    World/Lore: Holy crap, if you wanted to know about Thedas, the Blight, or... anything, get this game! There must be thousands of pages worth of lore scattered throughout Fereldan and Orlais (this is probably an underestimation). The world is masterfully crafted, and the artistry and fine detail are exquisite. Truly well done, Bioware.

    Music/Ambiance/SFX: The open world music can get a little dry sometimes, since they decided to reuse combat music and general ambient music quite often. The music in the Inns, boss fights, cut scenes, special fights, and pretty much everywhere else BUT open world exploration is really quite good. Ambient sounds like birds chirping, wolves howling, wind blowing, rocks falling, etc, are very well done, to the point that it feels natural. SFX such as combat clashes, doors, footsteps, etc feel meaty and thought out, and even help immersing yourself in the game.

    All and in all a great game. I am glad I sidestepped my ban on EA games to support Bioware's latest and greatest--it was well worth it. The ban is back in place, but hey, they gave me a free copy of Sim City 2000 for the Holidays, so maybe they ARE trying? Nahhh.... we'll see about that!    … Expand

    Fantastic game. If you like the dragon age formula you will love this game. Well written atmospheric and awesomely voiced great game would recommend it at full price.

    WOW the best game series and now with multiplayer this is really cool, i pre ordered this and i am really happy with this excellent game, i recommend this if u like RPG's game and if u are a DA series fan this is u game.

    Dragon Age: Inquisition (DAI) is truly fantastic, but not without it's glaring flaws. The world is enormous and believable, the story is fairly decent, the combat feels great and loot is well balanced in terms of drop rates and satisfies the itch.

    Skyrim was King in terms of sprawling landscapes and breathtaking vistas -- of course when accompanied by composer Jeremy Soule. I believe this king has now been dethroned. DAI truly takes the cake with it's vibrant and fantastical scenery. You may read in other reviews that the textures are poor, but this is not the case. The textures are very crisp and high resolution. If you are having difficulty seeing this check your graphics settings or contact support. It is also unarguable that the soundtrack is perfectly fitting, filling your ears with just enough to enhance the experience but not to distract.

    I'm about 20+ hours into the game, with about 2/3 of that into the story and the rest obviously in multiplayer. Thus far the story has adequately captured my attention. More so than DA2, that's for dang sure. After about 13 or so hours into the story I have yet to come across anything that seems like a major game changing decision. I hear the story is over 70 hours long, so I'm sure I will have plenty of opportunities yet, but it's been a long time waiting. Regardless I've been enjoying it well enough.

    Combat is definitely stemming from DA2. It's fast and feels punchy, like every click is really doing something powerful. The sound effects are clean as well and really enhance the feeling of power. The class abilities are very scattered and most are useful, but determining synergies isn't the most straightforward. It may come to be that by end game everything is unlocked, so this could be poor, early judgment.

    Loot is just fine. It's honestly not my cup-o'-tea but for this game it totally works. Drops are semi frequent, with most being subpar and rare items actually being rare. If you take the time to craft (which doesn't take much time at all if you gather materials as you go) those items will almost always be better than what drops, as well as items purchased from shops. Items are also class locked, so a dagger can not be used by a warrior, and a small sword can not be used by a rogue. There are even runes that are "Non staff only" runes. I've yet to see a rune I can even put into a staff.

    Now for the ugly. The tactical camera is borderline useless. I try to ignore it the best I can unless I absolutely need to pause and think. The camera is attached to a cursor on the ground that you move around to view and select units. Low hanging obstacles frequently block your view. It's really a mess. It's so clunky I honestly am not 100% how to use it.

    The only other issue I've found are the keybindings, and if you're playing on a console this is irrelevant. PC controls are poor. Remapping does help so please experiment with this before throwing in the towel. I mapped SHIFT as my basic attack and put Spring on R. In multiplayer it's a toggle, so no sweat off my back, and it doesn't exist in single player. SHIFT however allows me to aim where I want to attack while still having full WASD control and the use of my mouse for looting or selecting allies -- all why continually attacking and moving forward.

    The interface is debatable. It took me a couple hours to really remember where everything was and now I love the organization. On the other hand, there's no general overview of all your items unless you're in a shop. Personally I think that's just fine as I can't think of when else I need an overview, but users have complained.

    The above mentioned are what stands out. The good and the bad. If I didn't mention it it's because it's well enough to not be mentioned. Either it isn't fantastic or it isn't bad. If you're a console gamer this is a must own. If you're a PC gamer, consider playing with a controller, or spending a decent amount of time remapping your keys to your comfort.    … Expand

    Excellent story, voice acting, visuals, companions, and combat. On my 6th play through, all lasting anywhere from 110 to 150 hours, so it's definitely worth the money spent. I'm really enjoying all the lore revelations, as well. Beautiful, fun, thoughtful game.

I feel like I'm traveling back in time to my childhood when playing Halo 2 in its original graphics, but am blown away at the anniversary settings. So why haven't I played it as much as a Halo fan should? Assassin's Creed Unity is... well, kinda boring and almost completely broken. But, it's better than AC3. So why I haven't I played it. It's because I can't bring myself to stop playing Dragon Age Inquisition. The story is pretty standard. It doesn't do anything wrong, but it's not revolutionary. But the way the game tells the story and lets events unfold is masterful. You can go at your own pace, separating story missions with hours upon hours of side quests and extra exploration (I have gone literally 12 hours since my last main story mission). The characters are great. They all banter with each other, they all have their own backstories, which you can choose to learn or choose to ignore, and they all have their own personality. Every one is distinct from one another, and you actually care about them and what happens with their personal lives outside of the Inquisition. The combat is a hybrid system between Origins and DA2, favoring DA2 more, which is good for someone like me. However, you can stay in tactical mode for every encounter if you want to play the role of a brilliant strategist. Graphically, the game looks great and I've run into no technical issues or frame-dips (playing on Xbox One). It's a little disappointing that the controller restricts you to only 8 abilities on your "hotbar," but that could be thought of as a compliment, considering how deep the skill trees are and how many abilities you can unlock. The voice acting is second to none. Lip-syncing is amazing (which isn't a point I usually give praise for, but I was playing AC:Unity before I started this game and good lord the lip-syncing in that game looks as though it was done by an intern who got the job only because his dad knows somebody and not because of ability). Practically every line of dialogue is expertly delivered.
    All in all, the game is fantastic. If you buy games purely for value, then this is your game of the year. I've put around 50 hours into the game so far, and I'm not even halfway through the story yet. A fantastic experience all RPG fans can enjoy.    … Expand

    Having played 18 hours of the game so far, and only just leaving the prologue, this is one of the best Bioware RPG's I have played. The side quests are as engaging and immersive as the main story arc, and the gameplay itself is far more polished than either of the two previous entries to the series.
    That said, the game is buggy to the point of insanity. The only alleviant is to turn down the graphics settings, a shame because this game blows away both previous games, and even some other modern titles in terms of it's looks.

    Overall, the game is still getting a 10/10 from me because it fixes the UI/Graphics/Gameplay issues in DA Origins, creates a far nicer environment (Cough cough) and more engaging storyline than II and finally, it is just damn fun to play.

    Now for my mindset:

    * I STRONGLY dislike EA.
    Can't help it, they've destroyed so many franchises, killed so many companies, they deserve their hate.
    * Expectations after DA2.
    After Dragon Age 2, I was also expecting more reused maps, no story (at all) and basically more of a Kingdoms of Amalur type of game (which isn't that bad imho but nothing to be proud of).
    * Dragon Age: Origins is the last gem Bioware made pre EA. (crazy amount of hours).
    You can clearly see the amount of EA tampering was kept to a minimum (as the game was already "finished" when EA assumed control).
    This reversed in Dragon Age 2 where they tried to stomp out a sequel as fast as they could and it showed.

    What I got this time (100+ hours in) :

    Game Of The Year 2014 :)

    * Gamepad gameplay like Dragon Age 2
    But improved, I remember not being able to play DA2 on the PC because the gameplay screams gamepad at you.
    Don't torture yourself with keyboard and mouse, accept the game for what it is or don't play.
    * AMAZING Voice Acting (and audio in general).
    Thought the visuals were good? Check that audio.
    I remember stepping into the first INN (Haven) and suddenly hearing voiced songs played by the bard, Yeah the game pretty much had me from there.
    Voice acting is getting a separate mention because it's just that spot on.
    * Size
    I went in thinking this game would be finished with 20 hours maybe, 30 if I was lucky.
    Here I am running around at 100+ hours, still not finished and (more importantly) STILL enjoying every moment.
    * Bioware Characters.
    It's their forte and it seems they haven't lost it yet (luckily).
    All characters are believable and have more depth then I initially figured they would have.
    * Visuals
    I thought I wouldn't add it, but they're just that good.
    You will find yourself being caught in the environment multiple times.
    My first encounter with the lightning dragon stood out for me the most (truly felt like a living breathing beast, the others maybe not so much).

    Whatever rating this game "deserves", to me, it's clearly better than Dragon Age 2.
    I'm now looking forward to seeing if Witcher 3 can beat this game next year :)    … Expand

    I'm very confused as the the hate towards this game, I'm going to try and tackle several of these issues here and I feel many of them are simply childish. The issue of the repeated clicking needed to fight, for starters why is this such an issue? Most games require almost constant clicking during combat why is it a crime for it to exist here?     Secondly people saying it doesn't work on their computer, either your computer isn't good enough and you should have looked before you bought or is a simple error that can normally be fixed by doing this magic called re installing. Also giving a game a bad review because it doesn't work on your rig is ridiculous, you haven't played the game yet to review, so you're just throwing a tantrum. Yes it might be frustrating, I've had many game I couldn't play when I wanted to that are still amazing games so don't harm the name just because you want to have it all your way, problems occur, its a game not a divine artifact of perfection.
    Finally to those saying its unplayable on their graphics cards, if your motherboard is pants then the graphics card make no difference, I have a GTX 770, not the best but not the worst, I've seen people on here with better cards complain it wont run on medium, which is interesting and I've got mine at a custom of the two highest setting and I'm getting 50 FPS. Either these people are lying, misinformed about their own cards, need a better motherboard or simply have messed the computers up and need repairs in one form or another.
    As to the Actual review of the game, it's stunning, I had to show my mother, who never played games because they never looked real, and she was amazed by it, I was amazed by it ( I do not live with my mother, don't look at me like that). This is the kind of game that I'd be proud of making for the looks alone, there are places that look almost real and it's amazing to look at.
    Gameplay is great, I love the choice of combat systems, being able to switch things up at any time, if you've got a strategy then by all mean you can get it down to the letter and if you're in the mood you can run at the opponent swinging at them like a mad man. I like the new informal conversation wheel, before everything felt intense, talking about nugs was an intense experience with the cameras so close ( didn't notice at the time) but now the camera lets you move your view if you're sick of someones face or you just wanna gaze lovingly into your own eyes if you want to. The conversations themselves are interesting, especially with the people you meet being fountains of knowledge mostly. I've not spoken to anyone and thought that they were a waste of time.
    As I've said before the game runs really smoothly and I've yet to encounter an issue, that's not to say there wont be issues for everyone, it's a game and every game has issues for some people.
    I'd advise you play it, it's a great game that I have yet to personally see a flaw in. Could it be love, maybe but that's not important, buy the game if you want a good time and if you see this a few years down the line, defiantly buy the game because it'll be a bargain now.    … Expand

    This game is staggering in terms of content and possibilities. It's one of the richest games I've ever played.

    I have really, really enjoyed it. The controls were never a problem for me, and I really enjoyed doing sidequests too. It was an honestly pleasant experience for me.

    Looking forward to DLC and expansions!

    I love Dragon Age: Inquisitions. I haven't been particularly fond of anything EA meddles in but this game is a great game. The characters are amazingly crafted and fleshed out, the environments are fun to explore and the combat is number-crunchingly good in the same way Borderlands 2 was.

The game also has a few bugs and issues that have caused me to die 3 times and also redo a 40 minute mission from start. The game also has crashed on me a few times. The game also doesn't close as seamlessly as it should (if you play BF4 you'll know what I mean).

    But the above issues have only been minor nuisances to someone like me and I really do feel like this is one of the true "next-gen" games that have been released. Graphics and environments are beautifully crafted, game play is SOLID. I have Far Cry 4 and I haven't even started playing it yet because of how bad I want to play this.

    I felt like a lot of games sucked this year (I was thinking I was losing interest in gaming due to getting older) but this game reminds me of why I love to play!    … Expand

    Dragon age is a great example of a sequel. It has a wealth of content with an interesting story plus the addition of crafting. The game does have it's problem ranging from big to minor. I gave it an 8 for how great the game is and took out 2 points for the problems it has and the unpolished multiplayer which is most likely a result from putting it in the game the last minute.… Expand

    Game-play: The combat in DA:I is pretty simplistic but very fun and easy to use but with specials that feel unique to each character choice i didn't get bored of the combat. the tactical camera is also a nice feature too, and although i didn't use it to much i did bring it up when fighting multiple/ tough bosses. it adds a nice strategic tough to the game. there were some technical glitches in my play through but it didn't hamper the experience to much

    Content: the story was very good in this game and for me the relationships you build with each of the characters was better then the actual story itself and that's what makes this game a great one, because you care about what happens to them. one thing i was a little disappointed in was that i wish my choices had a little more sway in the overall story but outside of a few moments i felt it didn't dynamically effect the story. another great thing is how much stuff there is to do i loved the puzzle quests and the different items you could collect. each side quest i did felt like it was meaningful and going towards a bigger cause and the more puzzle like ones reward you with great weapons/armor    … Expand

    In my opinion, this game could have been as good as DA:O, but the combat isn't nearly as good. A lot of it has to do with AI and lack of control. When I played DA:O on nightmare, I was able to carefully place my group around the battlefield and have them hold position when necessary and carefully select their actions through the tactics menu. DA:I does not have the same level of detail which can sometimes make combat frustrating. However, it's not enough to discourage me from playing the game.

    DA:I fixed most of the problems with DA2 but it still feels like more DA2 than DA:O. That being said, it you wanted to put 100+ hours in this game you could which makes it a great value. I've actually enjoyed a lot of the optional content and it hasn't felt too repetitive. If you're a fan of the series you should play this game.    … Expand

It's by no means an ambitious game for a graphical point of view (although you wouldn't know it from hearing my GTX 780 Ti struggle with it), but the aesthetic style of the game is quite appealing. Some points do need deducting for character animations during conversations, where the game occasionally gives off a dollhousey vibe, threatening the immersion the game needs so badly.

    The combat system is relatively straightforward and similar to Dragon Age II. Combat flows well and holds plenty of challenges, but can get cluttered and chaotic. Character creation and advancement has been dumbed down, seemingly for mainstream appeal, and are at this point so bare bones that there's little left.

    To sum up, DA: Inquisition is a jewel, but not one without its flaws. On the technical side of things there are some problems, and the game needs a few hours to get going. Yet the game's strong points far outweigh the issues, with a rich RPG filled to the brim with content and masterful writing. At it's best, Inquisition is one of BioWare's best, and the strongest of the series. The game is heartily recommended, although it is suggested getting the game on console, as the PC port struggles mightily with performance issues.    … Expand

    That doesn't mean the game has no flaws, side quests are generally quite tedious with little or no story behind them and despite the delayed release bugs are fairly abundant but that can be forgiven given the scope of the game. The story can be fairly poorly paced at times and the ending doesn't really have the epic feeling that the rest of the game deserves. However none of these are concerns in abundance and if you are a fan of RPGs then this game will give you countless hours of fun, especially if there is a completionist in you.    … Expand

    - Tactical combat is not tactical at all. Tactical camera is pretty much impossible to use and character abilities aimed to give you control over the battlefield are not that good either. I have never been able to funnel enemies in a meaningful way or use crowd control spells in order to take control of the battlefield.

    - Quest design is poor and ripped off from MMOs. The majority of the quests are exploration tasks aimed to force you to traverse the zones in order to find hidden locations or objects. Story missions are rare and pretty much absent if you go outside the main story-line. Even quests given by your companions involve collecting objects and little more. In 2014 players deserve better quest design.

    - Free roaming and exploration are in direct contrast with the story driven content. I want to complete the game, do all the quests and collect all the achievements, but doing that means also doing all the find-X-things quests that drive me away from the story. When I go back to the council room and I trigger the next story moment I usually find it difficult to remember what I was doing story wise.    … Expand

    This game is THE GAME, the best release of the year, i can to recommend totally this game u will enjoy many time, Dont take care about the bad comments (many of this the same release date, this is weird?, how can u test the game with only hours), i have playing for over 30 hours and this is really excellent.

I understand a lot of people did not very much enjoy DAI but be open minded and realise that the game comes with a lot of content and things to do I mean seriously i think that each enemy is unique and gives you a hell of an experience while in battle. And honestly everywhere you look there is a battle to be fought. combat is also sweet and sugar coated with fun, but that's my own opinion you are free to your own. I felt that each battle you would have to use your wit and cunning and hope that your strategy gets you through it. Some may argue that the camera is funky (even though its true) yet the issue can be ignored or even just wait it out i mean there has to be a patch at some point. The only concern i had were some visual bugs like if you look at an enemy a certain way some of their limbs would be missing (head,leg,arm,etc) or walking through walls. yet still can be waited out until a patch comes along. BUT HERE'S MY REVIEW ALL SHORT AND SWEET.

    *Combat- Fluid, Fun, Beautiful, TACTICAL SCREEN IS AWESOME, and Challenging(if not higher the difficulty panzee)
    *Characters- Life-like, Likeable, and always helping the story progress
    *Graphics- IDK ABOUT YOUR GRAPHICS CARD, BUT MINE MADE THIS GAME LOOK BREATH TAKING
    *World- Massive, Beautiful, Unique, and always something new around each corner (yet i felt like as if they were just huge corridors, but hey FU** IT MAN)
    *Story-I honestly couldn't explain it was quite unique and i felt like i was deciding how it unfolded whole time 10/10 for story
    *Controls- had to get used to it, but shortly got that hang of it and i enjoyed it very much

    Yet this is all my own opinion take the information i displayed and register it the way you want, but hey you could always go out buy the game and see how you like it or watch gameplay or even better go be a fiend and play it at a friends house that owns the game. But hey i liked it you may too who knows
    PS: STOP TRYING TO COMPARE IT TO ORIGINS. Inquisition may be part of the series, but it stands as it's own game too. You also have to realise that origins is origins if you want a game like origins GO PLAY ORIGINS. COMMON SENSE 101

    and boredom that came with Dragon Age 2. Before you read this review let me lay my cards out on
    the table I hated Dragon Age 2 and I loved Dragon Age Origins, in fact I loved Dragon Age Origins
    so much I completed nine playthroughs and can confidently say I liked it more than Mass Effect 1
    and 2. Dragon Age Origins was a brilliant game. The story was well crafted and it was the best 3d
    animated and voice acted dungeons and dragons game. It's combat system was based on an isometric
    camera, dice rolls, armor rating, weapon acceleration math, D&D attributes like constitution,
    dexterity ex.. The dialogue system was an array of choices reflecting D&D morals and ethics
    system, chaotic, base, lawful, evil, neutral, good. It was a great game and I understand why people
    loved it.

    Dragon Age 2 however took the series in another direction. It attempted to be an
    action adventure game with flashy combat and a simplified streamlined interface to appeal
    to new and younger players. All fine and good I don't mind action adventure games after all I
    love the Witcher games which are definitely not isometric tactical RTWP CRPG games. Having said
    that Dragon Age 2 bothered me not because the change of direction but rather because the game was
    just plain bad. I can go into great detail why it was a mediocre poor experience but it has been
    said ad-nauseam.

    Ok now that that is done with and my biases are revealed lets get into the actual review for
    Dragon Age Inquisition. First off Dragon Age Inquisition is not like Origins in terms of combat,
    so if you only disliked Dragon Age 2 because of the combat then you will be disappointed.
    While Dragon Age Inquisition doesn't have that tactical combat we Origin fans come to love
    it still has an improved action combat system over Dragon Age 2. While the action based combat
    isn't bad the tactical camera is a complete joke. It is very problematic for several reasons.
    Of course I will go over them so people know what I mean, after all this is a review right?

    The tactical camera mode is a broken system. It suffers from so many optimization issues.
    The reasoning is rather transparent, it is obviously because it was added after the action combat
    system was made and it was an after thought. The first and most important glaring issue is
    that the camera has collision with ceilings and elevated floors. What does that mean you ask?
    Well it means that when you move the tactical camera from point A to B and point A is on the ground
    floor and point B is on a higher level, you have to move the camera up the stairs or up a ramp. You
    get the point, the camera cannot climb walls, hills, ect... this is a pain I cannot tell you how
    many times I had to move my camera around obstacles just to reach my target. As for ceiling
    collision.... well imagine going into a room with a low ceiling and trying to use the tactical
    camera. This results in a really low camera and thus a useless camera.
    The next issue is that WASD doesn't move the camera, only WS moves forward and back but A and
    D rotate the camera.... Yeah talk about clunky controls. Trees and high objects cut off your
    view and characters are very slow to respond with tactical commands. Sometimes they so not
    respond at all. Pretty much the tactical camera is awful and almost unusable.

    Man, after all that you must think that I hate this game and how can I possibly rate Dragon
    Age Inquisition 8/10, assuming you made it through the mountain of text to get to this point.
    Now that we established that the tactical combat is a mess I must confess that just about
    every other issue with Dragon Age 2 was addressed. The story is big, the stakes are huge,
    there are plot twists and turns and there is so much content it is mind blowing. When I reached
    about 1/3 into the game I thought it was over, I was disappointed, but then I realized the
    game had only really just begun. The graphics are superb, the textures scale well, and the
    particle effects are lovely. The RPG elements are great, there is so much to do.... too much
    actually. Nobody with a life will be able to do every quest. Even though there is a lot of filler quests there is also a lot of non filler story quests like companion quests, region quests and main story quest. Choices seem to matter and you make a couple of pretty huge choices so this game is definitely less linear than most Bioware games. The companions are way better than Dragon Age 2 trust me. The Iron Bull, Varric, Blackwall and Cassandre are all excellent characters in my opinion. There are also some pretty lengthy and impressive cameos and Dragon Age Origins story related conclusions, I will not ruin this as I want this to be spoiler free.     I can only conclude that the negative reviewers of this game are corporate plants from Biowares rivals. As a long time RPG fan and PC gamer, I must say that DA:I is the best game I have ever played. Completely engrossing.

    I've invested more than 150 hours in the game and it has been a great experience. It's gorgeous, there are lore bombs going off everywhere, and the world is so lush. I completed every quest other than the choose this or that in the main story line, and am going for round two to pick other options immediately. Playing in the world, I truly felt free to explore to my heart's content. AsI've invested more than 150 hours in the game and it has been a great experience.     Some of the bad stuff :(

    The tactical camera takes some getting used to but once you adjust, it becomes muscle memory with your fingers at that point.

    Looting sucks, I want to right click and have my character run over to the item and loot it. Sometimes you have to be standing right on top of the item to pick it up.

    There isn't much of a tutorial in the war room or for crafting. Its not that in depth but something would have been nice.

    To those on the fence about getting the game I would say this...........Judge it after 20 hours of gameplay. By then the story will have opened up, you will have your palace, you will have so many side quests and places to explore. You will have dabbled in master crafting, decorating your palace and coordinating your 4 man team to bring down a dragon!!!!!!!.     The dialogue itself is superbly written and acted - and there is A LOT of dialogue. At the character creation screen, you can choose from two different voice actors to be the voice of your Inquisitor. For my character in particular (male human mage), you can choose between a British and American Accent. As is the norm in BioWare games, the voice acting, as I already said, is fantastic. Each area that you can explore is huge and there are a lot of optional side quests to do. However, completing any quest benefits the Inquisition's reputation, power (a currency used to buy locations on the war map to explore), number of NPCs working for you, or sometimes all three. So even completing side quests feels like you're contributing to your main campaign. Another aspect of the game worth mentioning is the adviser system. You'll have three advisers in total who represent your military strength, diplomacy, or spy service. There will be conflicts of opportunity on the war map throughout the entire game and you can resolve these conflicts by enlisting one of your advisers. When the adviser is has resolved the conflict, you'll either get a reward such as gold, reputation, or an item, or a new area to explore.

    I am writing this review from the perspective of a guy who thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins, but never got more than 10% of the way through Dragon Age 2. I feel like there are a lot of people in the same boat so I will try to focus on aspects of this game that you will consider improved or made worse since the first games. Keep in mind I've spent ~20 hours in the game at this point,I am writing this review from the perspective of a guy who thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins, but never got more than 10% of the way through Dragon Age 2. I feel like there are a lot of people in the same boat so I will try to focus on aspects of this game that you will consider improved or made worse since the first games. Keep in mind I've spent ~20 hours in the game at this point, I have not completed the main campaign however I have a very good understanding of the storyline, combat, crafting, and other systems.

    STORY - So far, the overarching story has been fairly vanilla. It's the prototypical fantasy "demons attack/need a hero" situation that we've all witnessed before. That being said, the individual storylines that further the main quest are exceptional. At first I thought the writing was "okay" but after playing the game more I can say with confidence that the writing is very good. This game also draws heavily upon a lot of in-depth Dragon Age lore, so if you've either read the books or played through the first two games in their entirety there will be many aspects of the story that you'll enjoy.

    COMBAT - As others have stated the combat feels like a combination of DA:O and DA2, but I had to change some keybindings around before I felt comfortable. How you enjoy the combat will depend on a couple of factors -- if you played DA:O exclusively in the isometric view and spent a lot of time tactically setting up every encounter, you might not enjoy this combat as much as Origins. You can still achieve a similar playstyle on nightmare difficulty, but it does feel different. If you absolutely loved DA2's actiony/button-mashing combat, you will be mostly at home assuming you stick to easy or normal difficulty. This is a key fact -- changing the difficulty settings have a massive impact on the overall feel and pace of the game.

    RPG DEPTH - I know this is very important for a lot of people, myself included. This is likely where the game will either blow away or not live up to your expectations. The leveling system feels more rudimentary/simplified in this game than in previous Bioware titles. You are not able to modify your stats when you level up, which feels odd. Instead you're given one point to sink into various skill trees depending on your class. If you can get passed that fact, though, expect for a treat. The game has a downright ludicrous number of quests, areas to explore, piece of rare loot to acquire, and cool things to discover off the beaten path. I need to specifically mention the crafting system, it's implemented perfectly in this game and it is both rewarding and fun to craft an epic weapon or piece of armor. Overall, I can easily see this game having more than 100 hours of content.

    DECISIONS/PLAYER IMPACT: This has been a real highlight for me. I know Bioware is known for forcing players to make difficult decisions, but never have I done so to this extant. Massive portions of Inquisition will turn out differently (as will large parts of your playthrough) depending on choices you're forced to make on-the-spot. Personally I love this, because it genuinely feels like I'm crafting my own story. Plus this means I'll have more new content to enjoy on my second playthrough.

    GRAPHICS/PERFORMANCE: First I'll state my PC info: 2560x1600 resolution, Windows 7, 16 gigs of RAM, i7 2600k CPU, EVGA GTX780ti (3gb). I've been running the game with every setting fully maxed out at an average of 35FPS. For me, it looks phenomenal. The effects, whether it be a fireball illuminating a dark hallway or a creature being encased in white ice look fantastic. The character models and textures are all very well done, but the post-processing can make the game look artificially blurry at times. I get the occasional lag spike every several minutes, but considering what settings I'm running the game at I cannot complain.

    GLITCHES: The game has run very well for me, I've not had a single crash so far. Only issue I can think of is the odd background movement of my party members... if I am strolling through a town, they often end up getting into one-another's way and/or teleporting on top of eachother. It looks funny and can break immersion but it's not a game breaking issue at all.

    After spending a few days with the game, I can say with confidence that this is the RPG I've been waiting for. It's got the perfect mixture of Bioware presentation and Elder Scrolls exploration... some sticklers will find that alienating, but I think the vast majority of both Bioware and RPG fans will enjoy this game.    … Expand

I found myself saying to myself, "so this is it?" The truth is, it isn't. You eventually realize that the dry and admittedly grind-esque prologue (yes, the prologue is almost 20 hours!!) really is necessary, and fleshes out and makes your journey from a small upstart group to an immense organization INCREDIBLE. No other game has dared to put as much detail, time, and progress you need to fully realize your hero. After the initial forgettable 20 hours, the next 80 hours will have you riveted and lost in the glorious world Bioware has created.

    Game play
    Inquisition still draws many of the ideas used in origins to make the game fun. You can still pause and issue commands to your team. the main downside is the lack of auto attack but after an hour or so I got use to it. Its really not as bad as some say. The AI isn't as dumb as other people say either. Commands are issued and carried out quickly and efficiently. The "tactical screen" is a neat idea but was very, very poorly implemented. if you are in a close quarters area, forget you even have the option because the camera will shoot up your characters butt instantly providing no view. The lack of the ability to loot from a distance is a little irritating to its also something that you will get over. Combat is flashy and fast paced. It feels awesome like a mixture of origins, DA:2 and ESO blended into something better. The enemies are varied and challenging. The world is open in the same style as ESO with large sectioned areas to explore at your own pace. The areas are huge and packed with side quests and enemies to hunt.

    Controls
    If you have ever played SWTOR, you wont have any issues with the controls on mouse and keyboard. You click and hold to move the camera around and the have to use wasd to move your character. No more clicking to move locations. For me this was a fine change because I am not a fan of clicking to move anyways. The biggest issue with controls is the lack of custom key bindings. If you love your 18 button mouse you are going to hate the controls. You cant change a single key. Everything else is standard for mouse and keyboard.

    Graphics
    There is a definite improvement in the graphics this time around for the series. I turned up all settings to ultra and was actually surprised to see such good visuals. The landscape is lush and beautiful. I have not experienced any major chopping or frame drops yet which i was expecting from all the other reviews. My issue here is the facial movements during conversations. The lips move and the eyes blink but the cheeks and skin and plastered in solid but good quality textures Also occasionally the person talking may tilt there head down to look unconvincingly at the other character which will makes the tilted persons eyes pupils disappear in this awful demon look. Overall, it looks good.

    Story
    The story is one of the things I think should be criticized the most. Bioware got rid of the saved game uploads which pissed me right off because I played DA:O and DA:2 again right before inquisition came out. Now you have to remake all the important decisions you already made but this time through pop up flash cards. Its a painful process which took about half an hour before i could even start Inquisition. Finally i was ready to play. The game doesn't follow up on DA:2 how I'd hoped it would. The events of 2 are more of side quest to the main events of stopping the rifts. many decisions made in previous games hold little to no impact now. The good news is there is so much going on in terms of side quests that i never feel lacking story in one way or another.

    Characters
    Inquisition is severely lacking the in depth character development from origins. I can feel the cause of the characters but I don't feel the connection i use to. I do however still enjoy the bantering your party does back and forth and now even to the main character. Customization in this game is amazing. i was able to create my bad ass, military haircutted, unshaven mage monster easily. There are many options to create your seeker.

    Overall I would recommend that players of the original games try this one out! As along as you don't expect a copy cat of origins you will be pleased with it. Fun, flashy, fast paced combat and awesome graphics accompany an ok story line and shabby character depth to create a fun experience. The world is filled with things to do and enemies to kill. I am giving this game a 9 and a thumbs up to bioware(I was surprised to).    … Expand

    My biggest gripes early on were, without a doubt, the ungodly load times, however reinstalling the game onto a solid state hard drive largely fixed those.

    Graphics wise, the game is visually stunning and I've had very few framerate issues either while running it on max settings with my GTX 760, though I can imagine its quite stressful on less powerful systems.

    The controls... prior to playing, I heard from other reviewers that they were horrible on PC, yet I personally never found any issues with them on basic mouse and keyboard. The tactical camera is poorly done, but I literally have almost never used that in any of the Dragon Age games except on very rare occasions.

    When I first started playing the game, there were a significant number of bugs which would cause crashes, or my GPU drivers would crash, things such as that. Over a few patches, those bugs have mostly vanished, and the game is quite stable now.

    The storyline is certainly not Bioware's best, but it isn't terrible either. I won't talk about it here however because I don't want to spoil it. The characters are a mixed bag however, and there are some them who are absolutely hilarious to have in your party, others you will find yourself wanting to punch. Romance options however, compared to the last game, are rather lacking, unless you are either a straight male/female or gay male. In my case, as a lesbian female, I was stuck with either a ridiculously dressed non-party character, or the most obnoxious party member in the game as my only choices. This isn't a huge issue for me, but I do feel my kind got the short end of the stick in the romance department here. Romances aside, all of the characters have their own unique stories and personalities, as one would expect from a Bioware game, its fairly standard fare here, and a few characters from older games are hanging around as well. As is also typical, the voice acting is excellent.

    As a side note, the crafting system in this game is quite excellent as well.

    The musical score in this game is spectacular, no complaints about it at all.

    All in all, I give it a 9.5 out of 10. This game is definitely well worth the money, and a good reminder that Bioware still can make fantastic games when the scumbags at EA aren't threatening them.    … Expand

A summit is called to try and bring peace to both sides from the chantry (Dragon Age's representation of religion) and as you can imagine, things go horribly wrong.

    Now that the little bit of backstory is out of the way I would like to talk about how impressed I was with this game. The graphics are beautiful, the story is solid and has decent continuity and the combat is fluid and an absolute blast. This game is a loot whores wet dream as well, with an expansive world absolutely filled to the brim with goodies and bits of lore.

    The pro's of the game are
    -Strong action packed combat
    -Good Story
    -Good controls (on a controller)
    -Absolutely MASSIVE world
    -Interesting companions (I think this may be the best set of companions ever made by Bioware, and thats saying quite a bit)

    However even with all those incredibly solid foundations, there are definitely a few dark spots that keep the game from being an absolutely perfect experience

    The con's are
    -PC controls are sub par
    -The world can sometimes have too much to do, leading to some grinding
    -The story starts a bit slow
    -Lower end systems may have some trouble running it
    -The confounded looting animation has to play on EVERYTHING

    So there really isnt too much holding back Dragon Age Inquisition to be being a worthy successor to the first two titles. And it frustrates me to see people stop playing after 15 minutes and start hating on the game because it is different from how Dragon Age Origins felt. Not worse, just different but some people can equate the two as the same thing if they are a die hard fanboy.

It's scope and quality help the franchise shine like never before, but also showcases the setbacks faced with having such a scope.

    The world of Fereldan is bigger than ever before. BioWare does a nice job creating a world that's vast and beautiful. The different zones of Inquisition are all treated with care. The home bases of Inquisition (Haven and Skyhold) are both detailed and well done. In Inquisition, the series has become more of an open world. I found myself exploring and staring at the world around me just to take in sights on multiple occasions.

    While the world is enormous, it also caused the biggest downfall of the game; the lack of narrative focus. Because of the open-world nature of the game, you're going to spend a lot of time out in the world of Fereldan, rather than experiencing the epic story. This wouldn't be as much of a problem if the world had as much to offer you, but it folds under the pressure of having too big of a scope. It often feels disjointed, having long sections of "filler" content before small sections of story against an uninteresting villain. The open-world nature often goes at odds with the narrative focus, killing the potential this game had.

    Because the game is so big, BioWare has to fill it out with as much content as possible. They do a fine job of having the content there, but give you no reason to care about it being there. In past BioWare games, side quests had cutscenes with new characters asking you to do things for them. While it was always the same "kill x smount of bad guys to get the loot required", you felt more of an obligation to do so because you've had a personal interaction with that character. Inquisition fails to have very many cutscenes at all other than the main quests. You are left the Mass Effect 3-esque conversations with people from far away, with background noises often drowning them out. This lack of personal obligation leaves players feeling bored, lacking any reason to care.

    The world of Thedas has become less personal as well. Instead of interesting sidequests with characters showing you more backstory to the world, you're often told of how the world is through codex entries. This leaves a lot of players who want to learn of this world out of luck, unless they sit and read each entry. For old players of the Dragon Age series, this often leads to Dragon Age steering away from it's grittiness. The world of Fereldan is on the brink of destruction. People are dying. The world has gone to **** More has never been at stake before. But because you never really see or experience very many bad things at all, it really doesn't feel like the threat is as great as it should be.

    To shorten the review, I will list the rest:
    The war table and inclusion of perks was a fun, new way to experience interesting quests and choices that help give the Inquisition its own personal feel. Though it was neat, it left me wanting it to have a bigger impact at the end. Companions were well thought out and interesting as well as companion quests. Romance and voice acting throughout was excellent. Having advisers and seeing past characters were nice additions to the game. Crafting was rewarding, albeit time consuming. Armor and weapons were decent. Combat was enjoyable and skill trees were fun to toy around with. The sounds were great, along with the soundtrack. The character creator was expansive and well-done, while having different backstories was a nice touch. Codex entries (if you're willing to read them) tell some great stories too.

    The game is a good game, but the scope that the game had killed any potential for a great game. BioWare's choice-based storytelling is still better than most in the AAA market, but it feels as if the storytelling aspect was played down more than it should've been.    … Expand

    -Simple combat animations

    -Lots of Bugs:frozen party members,invisible conversation wheels/npcs,frozen/non-lootable elites and quest items(most of them begin just after completing Hinterlands),sudden windows returns...

    *The worst parts of the game for me;

    -The range bug in Dragon fights! I soloed 2 dragons from distance with Solas and the Dragons didn't even move :/ Need an areal/distance reset on Dragons fights-or-Dragons' aggression range/ players' spell range balance..

    -Relootable chests by save/load..

    In fact that this is my first Dragon Age I must say that I was really impressed. Its a great fun and I would totally recommend it. For those who are disapointed... I cannot say anything about it, because this is my first DA.

    The only thing that annoys is the confusing Map system. There are Areas where you are to low for the Enemies but you are not really warned.

    Now, do you want to know what are the problems? Here we are:

    1 - There is no chest to store the equipment. Later in the game you'll understand the absurdity of this oversight
    2 - Characters are not so customizable. You can choose your skills, but not how to custom your abilities, because points are automatically committed
    3 - Some design choices are ridiculous, as weapons and shields "attacked" by magic in the back of the characters without sheaths or other supports. Very "old school fashion"
    4 - It's frostbite 3. Be warned. To run the game at max graphics, you need a serious pc.
    5 - It's frostbite 3. Sometimes, minor graphics glitch may occur. Sometimes.
    6 - The game is huge. HUGE. Sometimes you may feel a little disoriented.

    From this point on, is a classic Bioware game. Great story and great characters. Very good graphic and very funny/good gameplay. I have the pc version, the console version may be a different experience.

    Buy it. If you are not sure, wait for some offer. But soon or later, buy it.    … Expand

    My System: I'm running it on an Intel i7 @ 4Ghz, 16BG RAM and an NVidia 780. Performance: I'm running 1920x1200 with graphics quality settings at Ultra, and I'm typically getting 38-40 FPS.     Controls: Obviously I'm running on a PC, so my comment is about mouse and keyboard. I found the controls an odd hybrid of DA Origins and DA II, but I got the hang of it after a couple of hours although I would say the tactical view is a little hard to control compared to DAO. It took me a little longer to get the hang of the combat controls. Picking up loot is kind of a kludge. Not being able to map functionality to extra mouse buttons is an annoyance.

    The Game: This is a bit of a mixed offering. There are a bunch of fetch quests that make it like an MMO, but you can ignore a lot of them if you want to. Most of the fetch quests like in to the main plot at least tenuously so they don't seem completely pointless. There's a fairly good crafting system for those who like that, but you can mostly ignore it if you want to (although you will have to collect herbs to use & upgrade your potions and grenades. The main plot line is good but not outstanding primarily because it's all kind of predictable. I did however love the political intrigue of the capital of Orlais!)

    Followers: DA games wouldn't be what they are without quirky followers, and that where this game really shines. There are some tricky plot twists amongst the side quests related to your followers that I really liked - they made me think hard about some tricky ethical dilemmas. Generally I really like the followers and the writing associated with them and their individual story lines very much. The voice acting was very solid and the writing for the followers was consistently good.

    Difficulty: There are 4 levels of difficulty, the easiest is really easy, and the hardest has had me dying a lot (which is what you should expect until you've mastered all the min/maxing).

    Bugs: There were a few quirks: Bodies lying in mid-air in a couple of places; twice loading a game crashed the game; and the mouse going offline during dialog selection (this one happens often). None of these have affected my gameplay, or really even been a big inquisition.

    -Too much grinding side-quest that are not interesting, and doesnt even rewarding, in fact if you do them all, the game just becomes too easy on hardest setting after some time. But you are not forced to do all of them, you can skip 90% of them if its not your thing, i like them, but if they are not interesting, nor necessary, they feel kind of pointless.
    -Your decisions in the game dont really matter gameplay wise. (But they really do in the story.)
    -if you dont like the way Bioware do their games, like you are the one (the main character) in the center of the world.

    It is a good game, with outsanding moments, memorable characters, sweet graphics. I have played it more than 250 hours, and i intend to return later.    … Expand

    Moving into the game: While controls may prove hard for people who isn't used to a lot of key bindings, the truth is that it basically mixes the tactical part of DAO and the "active" part of DA2. I started the game on hard, and I found it quite challenging. I had to keep pausing the game using the tactical camera and order around the whole team to do their job or I found myself done for pretty quickly. Starting from the first boss, miss placing your casters meant the boss would one shot them, but the tanks held the boss damage quite efficiently. I must say that Tactical Camera controls are pretty clumsy, and you end up switching from both camera ("T" by default) to get a better perspective on the scenario.

    Graphics are... I don't know about the other guys, but they're freaking awesome on my PC (It's good but not a beast). There are some magnificent views, and every object is carefully detailed. That aside it's true that some characters seem coated in oil, but it was only 10 or 15 in the whole game, and I'm pretty positive I've met with more than 3k characters.

    The story plot, while slow at start, turns into a much more appealing story than it appears first hand. IMO the start is too abrupt.

    Characters are pretty deep, there's awesome ones, and there are a few lame ones. (I hated the first character you meet through all the game).

    While this game is not DAO, it's still a really awesome game. Most of the people who liked DAO, will like this one, specially those who love to explore, the content is just massive.

    My score: 8'5. Pretty well deserved.

    I play for story content, and I was not disappointed. The story starts slowly and I was frankly bored for first few hours, but it gets really going after leaving the first big area. After that, I enjoyed the story and companion characters very much.     The addition of more races was excellent. My main was a dalish female, and felt it added depth to several game quests. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a romance which was not separate fluff but was clearly written to enhance the main story.

    Replayability of game is good. I finished my first round around 70 hours, and had four areas I had not visited at all. There are so many companions that it is impossible to get to known them all during a single playthrough.

    I was unsure what I would think of not being able to heal between fights and having to rely on potions. I played as a mage, and the chance ended up being positive one because it released me from obligation to pick healing spells or bring the healer on every quest. Overall, the game gives much room to choose companions based on personality instead of roles. Rogues, for example, aren't necessary compared to Origins or DA2 because there aren't as many locks. And party with three mages was actually viable option at many areas on normal difficulty.

    I liked the crafting system. For armor, player can pick the colors and features by choosing which metals/leathers/cloth to use. The color schemes were my favorite! I never got hang of herbalism or potions, probably because I didn't need them.

    As a PC mouse + keyboard player, I had trouble with controls at first but once I got hang of them (like using the right mouse button to look around instead of left), it was ok. Having only 9 quickslots for spells was annoying, since it limited my options during the fights. The game has some problems like crashing during the certain fight in the beginning of the game, but nothing major.    … Expand

    - Jerky animations (now fixed, at least in my case)
    - Frostbite engine optimization issues. The game is a system hog. Beefy hardware required to play.
    - The characters hair have a 'plastic' look. Bioware could have done better. Final Fantasy XIII anyone?.
    - The inventory management does the job but feels a bit clunky at times
    - Occasional camera issues, where your view in combat can be blocked by objects

    The UI could be better for PC players as it has limited space for ability placement, but it has many improvements over the DA2 one. The return of the Tactical Camera and it's related elements is a huge improvement over DA2 however. The expansive Skyrim-like feel of the zones like The Hinterlands is also a great improvement over DA2. The only problem with this and the graphics is that if you have a older system, you'll have some issues with the FPS and related elements unless your on lowest settings.    … Expand

    This is a great game. Extremely fun and addicting. Might not be as strong of a story as Origins but definitely had me hooked the whole time. At the moment, I'd really say you get good value out of this game comparing to what other games are out now.

    Not sure what's with these 0s but I imagine it's just trolls that are butt hurt because they were neglected in their life. Haters being haters.

There are serious strategic dilemmas and a high moral tone. The theme of racism is given due attention, along with the natural tendency for faction.     I highly recommend Dragon Age: Inquisition. The game play is refreshing and the story is engaging. The writing is incredible and I give a A+. I also enjoyed the humor a lot and found myself laughing out loud many times throughout my journey here. You feel attached to the characters you meet and you feel like you are the hero of this engaging conflict that all rests in your hands. I spentI highly recommend Dragon Age: Inquisition. The game play is refreshing and the story is engaging. The writing is incredible and I give a A+. I also enjoyed the humor a lot and found myself laughing out loud many times throughout my journey here. You feel attached to the characters you meet and you feel like you are the hero of this engaging conflict that all rests in your hands. I spent about 140 hours playing through the campaign. I didn't finish every side quest or complete collecting all the shards, paintings, etc. Those types of things are the least fun for me. I made the story and journey my own and did what was necessary to complete all the main story plots and main character plots. This game is a sand box and you can make it what you want within the parameters of the campaign. There are tons of options and critical choices you must make along the way. It had a great mix of action combat, RPG elements, skills, character development, loot, and story/lore to be one of my favorite games of 2014. Besides Skyrim this has been my favorite first/third person RPG to date.

If you enjoy other Bioware titles and RPG's in general (yes unlike what the awesome reviewers say this is an RPG (ROLE PLAYING GAME) which this definitely is...than you will like it. Are there problems? Yes.

    Lets start with the bad points:

    1) if you think you can run this game with the minimum requirements and enjoy it....good luck. clearly the developers/testers didn't run a rig with the minimum requirements. Most of the grips you see regarding graphics/bugs/crashing games/greasy hair or whatever is because the user doesn't have a top spec rig that exceeds the hardware requirements for this game.

    2) combat is indeed clunky. definitely see it running better with a gamepad or on a console. no autoattack feature is kind of dumb when you are not running turn by turn combat. you do get used to it after awhile though and it gets more fluid.

    3) healing is kind of silly. pot spamming is dumb. i know they tried to make it so you have to be a little more conservative running around because you don't get your health back but when you get into a random battle that is fairly difficult you use all your pots and have to go back to camp. this leads to a lot of back and forth that is annoying. yes you get more pots as you progress, but still not the best choice imo and you probably feel this more on hard+ difficulty (i am playing on hard)

    4) ranged AI is pretty dumb. the AI does a good job with the 'tank' type characters but not the best job with the ranged AI.

    the good stuff:

    1) graphics are solid at the upper levels. so if you have a great rig you will enjoy the graphics.

    2) soundtrack is great imo.

    3) bioware's system is still evident regarding choice making and how it impacts your experience. remember people, the vast majority of games have one ending. one path. one way to get to the ending. even though i do feel like bioware has gotten a bit away from their initial awesomeness regarding choice and such, the system is still there and evident which makes you feel more attached to your character and your party.

    4) plenty of stuff to do and explore. the sidequests can be dull at times but typically exploring maps and just doing stuff around a given map will complete a number of the sidequests without actually trying for any specific side quests.

    5) gear customization is a nice addition.

    6) i like the characters in this game. they all have their own personal touches, and there isn't anders anymore. god i hate anders. so much. plus they have ron weasley aka cole hahaha

    I could go on and on about it, but i think that is good enough. in summary: this game tries to do a lot and doesn't really perfect any of it which is what takes it down from being a blow out awesome game. if you want DA:O go play DA:O. It is like saying you want FF7 to be the same as FF10 and that because it is not the same than the game is trash, which is not true. I would normally give this game an 8.5/10 but because of all the troll reviews giving it a 0, which is so freaking absurd that it is funny, I gave it a 10.

    One more note: don't give up on this game early. It starts slow, but gets rolling. Once you get the feel for it and past the first 'chapter' it picks up and is a good deal more fun imo.    … Expand

    A lot of these 0s are realistically 5s-7s. I'm continually finding metacritic to just be a cesspool of hate, worse than any forum. I actually want it to go away because some game companies measure bonuses off of user reviews. People have been fired from them. I've taken a look at multiple people's reviews here, and they all seem to be 10's or 0s. Where are the honest reviews?

    This game is getting a ten from me for three reasons. A) I've really enjoyed it, and it has been worth the amount of time I've put in it. B) I personally have enjoyed the story. (Everyone has claimed its underwhelming, and I don't know what people are talking about, it's pretty standard fare... but we realistically get **** stories every game, and I particularly enjoy those that really step forward but I don't down vote those that are enjoyable) and C) I've thought the graphics, content and gameplay to be entertaining.

    I think people should have to register their game code to post reviews, because quite frankly I'm not convinced half of these 0's have played the same game as me. Or they just can't understand/read english.

    To me this game is comparable to skyrim, but is less repetitive with more of a story, the dragon battles in this game compared to that are INCREDIBLE. This is NOT Skyrim's massive open world, but it is far more open world than ANY of the Dragon Age's prior to it.

    This is a solid step up for Dragon age and I'm excited to see the next one.

    Why do I rate this so highly?

    The graphics? The graphics are very good and the world both huge and depicted in beautiful detail.

    The combat? The combination of action and tactical combat works well for the most part and is great fun. But the tactical camera issue does need resolving. For tactical combat to work most effectively the game needs both a longer zoom and a separate pause button instead of combining them.

    The gear and the crafting? I really enjoy this aspect of the game and the way you can modify parts of weapons and armour to customise them for your characters and play styles if you can find the schematics and have the raw materials. Some people find it overly complex but for me it's absorbing.

    So what then? Why do I rate this game so highly?

    The story and the characterisation. This series has always been rightly lauded for this but DAI has taken it to the next level. This is as close as any game has ever got to being an interactive novel. Every character, not just the main characters have their own story. Each one is voiced superbly. However when it comes to your main characters this gets dialled up to 11.

    The Rogue in your party isn't just a rogue. He's Varric (and featured in DA2). He's a dwarven merchant, teller of tall tales and as he puts it 'occasional tag-along'. He has a crossbow named Bianca, but that's a tale he isn't going to tell. Underneath his slightly world-weary cynicism you can tell he's an idealist. He's the type of guy you'd want as your friend and the type of guy who will be by your shoulder when things turn ugly.

    And they're all like that. They have feelings towards you and each other that can change over the course of the story in line with what you say and do so your choices and actions have real consequences.

    What brings this all together is the incredible depth of the world. This is a place every bit as realised as Middle Earth and as you adventure you learn more and more about its history, its religions and its politics. This isn't just cosmetic detail, its the context within which your actions and choices take place. What you say and do can shape the world.

    I could go on but you get the drift. This is the FRPG release of the decade.

    Finally - technical issues. I'm playing on Ultra settings and MSAA2 (?) anti alias at 2060*1050 on an i5/8MB/GTX 780 system. I'm not having any technical problems. Very occasionally (as in twice in 20 hours) I needed to run the free memory cleaner I use as standard to clear stuttering and I'm sure that was as much to do with me application swapping and doing stuff on the second screen as the game itself.

    So in summary - DAI is extremely good and certainly does not in any way merit the ridiculous scores of 0 being given or the frankly bizarre reviews that accompany them.    … Expand

    The best from WoW and the best from DAO - yes i like it!.

    The tactical camera you have to master, but just scroll up, then you can get tactical - Then there are all the layer of gaming to do like the war board, site guest etc.

    I' am still in the Hinterlands and starting my Inquisition!

    This is a great crpg. Aside from the mediocre KBAM controls this game is very solid. You can easily burn 100 hours in your first play through and if you like this type of game you will be playing it more than once. Have fun

    Graphics - 8.5/10; Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Having said that, anyone can watch a youtube video and develop said opinion and post about it. Here is my experience: I am running this game on a gtx 980 to get the full effect. The environment lighting and distant lods are beautiful. However, the textures up close aren't the sharpest. I must say I enjoy the art style of the game, even the animations that some are deeming unacceptable. My frame rates are pretty consistent at 60 fps, but the game lags and stutters just a tad during the cut scenes. This brings me to the next category:

    Story (so far) - 9.0/10: The story telling can't be respectfully rated by one person. I can only give you my opinion on how it has been done 10 or so hours into the game. There is a great deal to read early on in the game. My experience is this: I read what I can during the down time in the game, and skim through during fast paced sections. This adds onto the well acted dialogue scenes and musical atmosphere. I love the rpg element that lets me know if my party approves or disapproves my choices in dialogue, keeping my decisions at bay as to whether I act selfishly or with others in mind. With that said, there are some typical cliches and a few poorly written lines. These don't bother me much, as I look toward the bigger meaning of the whole conversation. I won't know how much my decisions play into the story line until I finish and begin again. Finally, the most meaningful category:

    Gameplay - 9.5/10: The gameplay is satisfactory. It is just that, nothing more and nothing less. It is fun at times, and repetitive at others. Although, it is random when these fun/repetitive events occur. I find myself pleased at staying back and blasting enemies as a mage strategically using AOE spells. Other times I find myself just holding the attack and letting my teammates finish the job. I actually liked the latter at times. This gave me a break when potions were running low or when I felt like pushing through the story quest. About the mechanics: At first, I had a difficult time switching characters in the midst of battle. Changing roles from a mage to a warrior to a rogue and so on. Learning the different strategies was pleasing, but interrupted the flow. The AI was better than me at their own characters, so I stuck to mine for most of the beginning. After becoming familiar with the different strategies and character abilities, I was enjoying the pure fun of an rpg based strategy-chess-board-style battle with the strategic view. I can't seem to pull away from the addiction of Dragon Age: Inquisition. I could ramble on about the fun I'm having, but I won't bore you who's reading this right now. If anything, I hope this review helps those who are struck by the amounting negative reviews posted. Give the game an extended go, and you won't be disappointed.    … Expand

    I don't get what everyone is complaining about. Sure, the game has issues but it's one of the best RPG i've played in the past 3 years. So far (15 hours in) the story is great and i've enjoyed the quests in the zones (mainly hinterlands), doesn't matter if it's pick this up or kill this. Great game, it's a solid 8/10.

That one diminished my experience because party banter is one of my favorite features. I did not even realize it was a bug until I read on the Internet about chatty people and realized that I rarely heard companions talking.     Now for the positives. This is an excellent game. I felt like I have all the times I have played DAO. There is not only a lot to do but a ton of little nice touches. Even the lesser NPCs have interesting moments. Despite having 144hrs playtime, I was no where near finishing everything.

    Have enjoyed it so much started a new playthrough. This is typical for me on games and rpgs especially that I love. It is surprising to me how much different my experience is from first character. The world is reacting differently to me. Yes, the core theme and story milestones are the same. But my change in background and dialogue has given the experience a different tone. I even have new missions and quests that I did not get in the first game.     Dragon Age Inquision fleshes out the lore of Thedas more than any game so far, allowing you to visit starkly contrasting and beautifully designed areas across the continent. The world of Thedas is original - it takes the classic fantasy ideas of elves, dwarves, etc and adds its own twist. Let's face it, it's D&D without the trademark, so Bioware can do whatever they want, and they sure have. It's a pleasure to explore.    … Expand

    I haven't completed it but the way inquisition introduce you the world is quite straightforward. Although i liked this approach. You will be in control of your character just 5 to 10 mins after finishing character cuatomization and just 1 to 2 min later you will be fighting demons.
    Gameplay is fun and the world is huge but not perfectly open like skyrim. But it is huge and have alot of things to do.
    Best part of the game is its graphics. DA Inquisition looks damn good. Better than any other RPG. From you skin to your armor, from terrain to trees everything look breathtaking.
    Though there is one problem, at present I cant use mantle with my R9 290. I dont know whats the exact problem.    … Expand

    Fantastic fun, it has for me the best of both DAO and DA2. It's immersive and entertaining and the graphics really pull you into the game and keep you there. Some of Biowares best work IMO and well worth the extra wait to get to.

    Amazing game once you get out of hinterlands, the zones just get better and better, along with the quests. Yes hinterlands feels like a single player mmo, that is true, but if you just do the story missions and skip it, it's amazing.

    There's lots to see and collect. You will constantly get side-tracked into doing other things because there's just so much!
    The world design is absolutely stunning. Honestly it left me stunned at how beautiful some areas are. There's also a lot of diversity in the locations, from vast deserts and burried ruins, to huge rolling hills and forest to stormy coasts and rocky hills.
    The story is superb and offers many different and important choices along the way.
    The game is highly polished, there are so many little details that I couldn't even write them all in this review but if you play it and pay attention to things in the game you will know. It's these little details that make the game.
    The music and sound effects are above exceptional.
    Armour and equipment crafting is simple yet very diverse and intriguing. The look and colour of crafted equipment even looks different depending on the material you use! If you use blue velvet your equipment is going to have blue velvet on it! It's very well done.
    There are no bugs I've noticed in over 100 hours of play time. Except for minor graphical issues like NPCs walking on thin air, but they go away promptly.

    To give you an idea about how good this game is, I played it for 30 hours and only finished Chapter 1! I then promptly made a new character just so I could play Chapter 1 all over again! I've never ever done anything like that in a game before. That just shows how fantastical this game is.    … Expand

    DA Inquisition is another Bioware game I purchased that was worth it's weight in gold. I read all these bad reviews and can't help but say to myself "get a gaming controller for pc." Yes playing with mouse and keyboard is annoying and the controls are Bonky to say the least. Spend a little bit of cash to grab a PC gaming controller and this game is absolutely phenomenal. I loved DA Origins and I feel this game is equally as good if not better.

    Great story, fun dialog, fun quests, great crafting, Great cut scenes, Awesome fighting, Amazing character customization and many more great components. I felt that I could really get into my character and immerse myself in a fantasy world within the dragon age universe (even more so then the previous DA's).

    Bottom line: If you loved origins, you have a gaming controller or are looking to purchase one, and you're not a whinny Cheetos eating "I hate the world and everything in it" type... You'll love this game and it's Role playing elements. I'd buy it two more times over if I had to and still love it.    … Expand

    I for one am very pleased they ditched all the clunky stuff from the previous titles. I actually feel like I am playing the characters and I am not caged into the small KOTOR 1-2 sized worlds. I do think the party options for ai should be expanded on a little but so far the game has been bug free for me.

    The controls are standard fare for most ARPG/Shooter/mmo fans with a few extra keys.
    The characters are awesome and I love the cassandra chick you meet, she is voiced very well IMO.
    Character customization is better than it has ever been for any DA game, I felt there were a lot of options and you could make an attractive character unlike the others. I also like that this time our pc has a voice and is not the Silent Bob in the room. Worth a go for any lover of open world games especially in the RPG genre.    … Expand

    Truly a masterpiece, the more I play the more I love it. Yes the game has some PC UI issues but other than that is a perfect 10! Don't listen to the haters, This is one of the best game of all TIME!!

    P.S- I had a much deeper review but for some reason it was removed, I guess they don't want me to praise this game too much in a deeper explanation lol.

Animations can be a bit stiff at times, but the character models are gorgeous, and all in all the game just blew me away.

    After the whole debacle with ME3, and DA2 being a bit disappointing, this game just made it all better. Don't get me wrong I love DA2, but this is what I would expect out of a dragon age game. I bought the Deluxe edition and I would gladly get the collector's edition if I could, sadly it isn't sold in my country.    … Expand

But it has its issues, one being when you in conversations the characters stand there like idiots catching flies with their mouths. But i have only encountered this issue a few times.     I am absolutely loving this game right now. There is so much content in this game that I could easily see myself poring 200+ hours into the game. At first I played a warrior but found the combat to be kind of dull as a warrior so I ended up going with a mage. The combat isn't as bad as other people say. It isn't just spam one button, and they shouldn't be able to get away with that unlessI am absolutely loving this game right now. Voice acting is amazing, characters are absolutely wonderful (Iron Bull). I would have spent $100 to play this game if I had to. There aren't too many boring quests but I can defiantly understand where people are getting this grinding felling from however all of those quests are optional and make sense. For example one quest has you collect ram meet for a starving village, so you have to collect some ram meat. All of these quests are optional as well. performance wise I can run this game at 60+ FPS constantly with a 970 and 4790k both over clocked at right around ultra settings. I would recommend putting this on a SSD because loading times can be a bit cumbersome sometimes.… Expand

    My personal Game of The Year 2014.

    Great visuals, great story, even greater atmosphere and lands to explore. Tons of content. My favorite aspect is the battle system. Some people dislike it, I really..really like it. It is versatile. I'm about 62 hours into the game and still enjoying every second of it.

    Graphics are amazing,but we all know what frostbite is capable of and they use the same vegetation engine that Avatar used called speedtree...
    Sound is amazing,when you hear your first dragon scream you will be amazed how real it sounds,music is top notch!
    Characters are great,every character has its own story and characteristics,but thats nothing new with bioware,they are beautifully written...

It is not an Origins or DA2 clone, so if you're expecting either - like so many seem to - you're not going to be satisfied. Judging it on its own merits, it's a fun game with somewhat streamlined tactics, a much more immersive style of combat, and memorableI loved playing this game! I recommend ignoring all of that, as many of them are based on technical difficulties they are facing. Overall it is a great buy.

    Few hints on folks complaining here: Use F key to interact, not mouse. That will make picking up loot easier. You can respec any of your characters in the game in blacksmith location. Continue on the main quest until you discover and finish the Val Royeaux city in Orlais region, and quickly visit Storms coast to recruit majority of the followers. If your frame rate is lower than 30 on high (on PC) upgrade your card, do not complain. There is a frame rate test in the extras section of the game, use it.

    Pros:
    * Great graphics (on PC ultra) and exotic settings
    * Incredible feeling of exploration
    * Strong characters, and story line. You feel like you are adventuring with friends.
    * Long, long, long, but not boring, engaging.
    * Crafting

    Cons:
    * Frame rate drops to below 30 on strong graphic cards on PC
    * tactical view movement is not that great. (but still useful, unlike folks complaining here)
    * Inventory management
