Glad I didn't follow user reviews on this one. Best RPG I've played to-date, and I am a RPG-aholic. Really feels like a combination of the Elder Scrolls games (big, immersive, sandbox world to explore), the Dragon Age games (fantastic character development/narratives), and Diablo games (twitch combat and progressively-opening lands to explore). I'm less psyched about the twitchy combat, it's the one element of the Dragon Age universe I feel took a step backwards into "we're a console-driven world now!" territory, and detracts from the overall experience (hence my subtraction of one star). But that's not enough to throw the baby out with the bathwater, as so many user reviewers are doing. Yes, Dragon Age has slid away from traditional AD&D components into more console gaming components (as is every other non-indie RPG these days), which basically means more button-mashing, less strategy, but if you can look past this, you will find a world that is enormous, probably the most exploration-worthy world of any RPG to date (including the Elder Scrolls games where you could explore vast stretches without finding anything of note). The graphics, animations, textures, and character and loot models are definitely next-gen, and although there are a few missteps (yes, if you turn the graphics down, the characters get a glossy sheen to them) - but this is a game clearly designed for modern graphics cards and a fairly robust PC. The game is huge, you can pump 200 hours into it easily, which FINALLY puts the DA franchise in the same ballpark as the Elder Scrolls games. The writing is good and the biggest challenge, particularly for players new to the universe, is the overwhelming amount of lore. But for any true RPG'er, this is a positive. You get to feel truly powerful in this game, too, as your character goes from a lowly nobody to a commander of the biggest force in the world, with an enormous fortress to add to and decorate. You also now command two groups of characters - the teammates, as with every other Dragon Age game, whose stories open up and get deeper as you progress - and your advisers, a group of folks who bring stealth, politics, and brute force to the bigger picture and help open up new sections of the map to explore. I'm 70 hours in and I haven't even opened up every map yet. This might just be the greatest RPG made to-date, don't let user reviews talk you out of purchasing the game. It certainly hits all my RPG buttons. Haven't even looked at any of my other games since I got it. Totally immersed and addicted. And, as in all DA games, what you did in the previous games effects what happens in the bigger picture of this game as well. In fact, you might just run into some of your own characters from previous games! Big thumbs up. Expand

The only things that I do not like are the time wasting controls in the game. In game we can close up rifts and decipher constellations and open up encrypted doors under time constraints. But climbing a simple mound completely stumps us.

    It doesn't make sense.

Also, some of the sacrifices we make are so intense that I'd rather have another option. I don't like losing party members that I believe are critical to the flow of the game and the intensive immersion and time wasting of the game itself, will only make me want to play it once. For a person playing this game casual, they could easily play it for 3 years and never fully complete the game itself.

It would be nice to have better save points in the game in order to be able to back track on a decision made previously in a split moment.

This is my first review of a game and only reason is to combat some of the unfairly negative reviews this game seems to be getting. The graphics are amazing and runs smoothly with never going below 40 fps easily give them a 9.5/10.

The story line seems ok so far i would give it around 7/10. The dialogue between you and the npc's is done very well and would rate that 9/10. The camera angles can be a tad buggy and odd at times which can hurt during a fight especially if your controlling a melee character, i will give that 6/10 hopefully a patch will come out that will allow you to zoom out a bit more.

The being able to control all 4 party members and switch thru them is a huge learning curve but becomes way more enjoyable the more i play it. The fight mechanics seems solid, i am playing on normal difficulty which is a little to easy but works for trying to learn the game. The gathering of resources hasn't been to tedious and is almost a instant grab unlike with skyrim the pickaxe came out to mine. The sonar system really comes in handy to make sure there isn't any loot or herbs or other misc items that may be hidden. You can set up your own way-points and fast travel which is very convenient and saves time. The journal and quest log is nice not great but you know what you have to do and highlights where nicely enough for you. The beginning area feels a little closed in, however im sure that is because its more of a training area. Once you venture out to other areas it really opens up and you can almost do what you want. Interaction with objects is not great would like to be able to move more stuff or break stuff but it doesn't take away from the game as much as you would think.

When you switch to tactical mode it pauses the game which is handy to plan out your fight, however i end up just playing in 3rd person view most of the time and don't use the tactical mode often. There is no first person view as well but that's ok with me. Overall i have played around 8 hours so far and am very entertained and I have not even completed 10% of the game.

I think many of these negative reviews have been put on here way to quickly, if i was to give a review the first couple hours of this game i probably would have given it a 5/10, because honestly its hard to get used to the game-play and camera control however now i am at the point to where i am really enjoying the game and its mechanics and really think this game should be around a 9/10. Great game to play during the holidays.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is no different.

It's a real-time action rpg that is fun, has a interesting plot, decent OST, beautiful visuals, great gameplay, open areas to explore, well written characters, plenty of sidequests to complete, and lenghty main story

Character animations could have been done better, the multiplayer although fun has horrible matchmaking that they never bothered to fix, the game has several bugs and glitches, the skill system was downgraded, as well as the challenge too.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is very different from Dragon Age Origins, but that doesnt mean the game is bad.
Game series usually change with time, and Dragon Age is no different. Some people just doesnt seem to accept it. Believe me, the change in this case could have been A LOT worse.

But i give it a try and after i starting to reearch in forums etc, i realised you dont need to finish an Area for advancing, you keep coming back etc like in others, and once i starting to advancing.. Oh my god.. IT WAS A MOVIE!!!! And i only have THANK YOUS to Bioware, and thank you specially after the patch repair some bugs, this game was meant to be a MMRPG like swtor. They said 200 hours gameplay, well i played everything, for more than 400 hour. And now with the DLC it just awesome.
I inmerse so much in this game that i started to loose reality and wished i would be there. Specially the romance is awesome.
Why do i give it a 8 instead of 10, because of the ending, i hate cliffhangers. And because if i wouldnt research about the begining, i eventually would quit the game and dont bought it (i download game first to see if i like them and its not piracy unless you sell it)...
So again, THANK YOU BIOWARE... and wating for Mass Effect Andromeda now :D

When it comes down to it, Dragon Age is just a fun game.

Despite all the BS about whether it is truly a dragon age origins style game is irrelevant. It still has all the same feeling as Dragon Age:O and 2 but with a more expansive world. And the game is playable. All the people saying that frame rates are a problem are morons. I played the game for 4 hours and i got a glitch once.

Every game has had small problems. Some are **** less than a week after release of a tittle that is in the hands of millions. Even testers would be unable to find the problems some users are having.

At the end of the day the game is just extremely fun. It has a MASSIVE amount of content (which is good in this case, in many cases the amount of content does nothing for the game since the initial game sucks).

If i went on metacritic and saw all the bad reviews and decided not to buy the game i would be missing out.

With that in mind, I am creating this account and writing this review because I was surprised at the negative reviews that Dragon Age: Inquisition has gathered. There are flaws with the game: tactical camera does not zoom out enough, the controls for left/right pan and rotate in tactical mode are against standard convention of TBS games. The ease with which PC players are able to interact with the environment (loot) is also quite adversely affected due to "space" now being binded to jumping instead of general interaction. The vast areas can seem filled with clutter and lack of story. There were several clipping issues in one of my final levels that forced me to load from an earlier save.

But yet, the game draws me back. For every irritant and disappointment, there comes an immersion of wonder in this world that Bioware has built. There is a reason behind the existence of their dungeons, be it a haunted mansion or a mine whose owners were evicted by spiders. This is an open world game that has undercurrents of what made Bioware great: storytelling. Sometimes it is too subtle or buried behind a series of plot triggers, but that depth also delivers a sense of exploration. This game has revisited what it means to be a Role-Playing Game and while it's answer is not perfect, it comes strikingly close to what a modern rpg should be: immersive, player-driven and filled with characters that connect with us and are relevant to the context of the times it is made in.

Now comes the interesting bit: the reviews for this game are polarised and so the reader should be informed of some possible reasons for it:
    1) Performance: Apparently there are problems with DA:I when running with Nvidia graphics cards. Devs have stated that they are working on a fix for it.
    2) Interface: As I stated earlier, the interface and key bindings are not ideal. It took me quite a while to get used to it/remap it to my liking.
    3) DRM: The Denuvo DRM that DA:I uses has yet to be cracked and that may generate negative feedback from online users (such as spreading rumours that it creates adverse performance or through negative reviews)

With respect to the points above, take the current reviews with a pinch of salt. This game is worth the initial confusion; bear with it, pull through and you will watch a world spring to life. (unless you are running on Nvidia then you might want to wait for a patch first)

What a brilliant game! For me this Dragon Age iteration was by far the best game of the series and got so many things right versus its predecessors. If you enjoy action RPG's and have not played this game I'd recommend you give it a go.

    Pro's:

    - An interesting and never dull story / campaign to work through.
    - Great companions with a lot of personality and interesting side stories. For the 1st time in a long time when playing a game with multiple companions I varied my companions a lot through the game and enjoyed their banter and exploring the effect different builds had on their combat styles and usefulness in game.
    - Plenty of side quests to work through coupled with very solid back stories and lore.
    - Superb graphics with extremely well crafted and at times stunning environments (cudos to the artwork team!!).
    - Enjoyable fast-paced action rpg type combat that reminded me somewhat of the combat style of Kingdoms of Amalur (which is a good thing).

    Con's:

    - The repetitive 'go fetch 20 of this thing' quests quickly became tedious.
    - Crafting was great but I felt that 'finding' or accessing useful or high level crafting schematics was too restricted.

Areas for improvement for the next in the series:

    - Sending Leliana, Cullen and Josephine off on missions via the war table @ Skyhold was a great addition to the series. It was always fun to be able to discover or 'unlock' things via the war table.
That said Bioware could have made this a much better game feature by including some strategy elements - say for example by including 'risk' style gameplay where you could amass and move army units around to conquer and unlock regions or defeat opposing factions.

So what is it about? Well, the game gives you a giant world, a clear goal, and a ton of quality (compared to things like Skyrim at least) content, with a huge focus on "doing things your way, living your own fantasy, crafting your character". There are tons of what to some might seem like pointless quests or combat, because they do not advance the main plotline. That is because the purpose is character building and roleplaying (you know, that whole "roleplaying" thing, the R in RPG). This is a different focus than the previous two games, and if you come in expecting the same plot focus from before you will be disappointed and missing out.

The lore is amazing. Bioware releases books along with their games, and the books for Dragon Age have been critical to the development of Inquisitions (most important being Asunder and Masked Empire). If you do not read the books you are 1) missing out and 2) don't really have a right to complain since you are not their target audience. It is not optional if you are serious about playing the games. And don't even get me started on people who skipped the previous games or even Dragon Age Awakening. Pretty much if you do not have a passionate opinion going into dragon age about how to solve the mage problem then don't bother, this game is not for you.

Some of the boring bla bla bla stuff:
-Great writing (its a bioware game, duh)
-Great music (again, its a bioware game)
-Extremely progressive ideals (if you have a problem with trans people, gtfo, and this game is not for you)
-Meh graphics (pretty, but not really on par with most next-gen)
-Lots of glitches, crashes once every 5-10 hours (for the third time, its a bioware game, we expect this), but nothing that makes the game unplayable.
-The animation for the first few hours is really badly done, but later it gets better and enjoyable. I do not know why.
-The best and most comprehensive lore and worldbuilding from any high fantasy game you have ever heard of.
-Excellent voice acting (its a bioware game! Of course this is true!)
-Meh combat (The combat is where it falls flat the biggest, it is not a good action combat game like Skyrim, and not a good tactical game like Dragon Age Origins, and it is a lot easier than it should be, although in the end it is still enjoyable, just not as good as we should be expecting from Bioware).

In the end, you play this game because you love the dragon age lore, because you love the world and want to explore it and see events through, but most importantly because you love roleplaying games! (The RP is for roleplaying).

You will end up not enjoying this game if you are looking for a combat focused experience, or because you are new to the series, or because you do not care about lore or worldbuilding. You have to bring your own motivation to this game.

I'm at 103 hours of game play so far, and I kinda like it but.. I can't help to compare it to the the first two Dragon Ages. While playing this one I still have not come across any caves or side quest that take me so deep into the abyss that I wish I never stepped foot into it. Such as the Wolf of the Wilds quest in Dragon Age Origins, or when I almost die in the Fade. I had to re-load a save from 3 hours earlier just to stock up on potions to complete these quest.

I had one surprise in this game about 10 to 15 hours into it, but that was it.. (there were many other small encounters that were interesting and could have been built on). I feel like someone made Bioware dial down the creativity nob and not add a little strange eeriness to the game. Perhaps it's still to come.. But like I said, I'm 103 hours into the game. 1. Not being DAO enough
What does this even mean? Dragon Age Origins is terrible by today’s graphic standards. The combat was atrocious, the skill trees in DAI are no more limiting than they were in DAO (you could in theory make Alistair, Sten, The Warden, Loghain, Ogrhen, and Zevran all use the exact same skills if you wanted). Is the writing on par with some of the finest literature the world over, no. It certainly is at least equal to if it doesn’t surpass the writing in DAO though. Besides you only had like 2.5 dragons in DAO and a zillion of those annoying little dragonlings in this one I’ve already seen four dragons (I most ignobly ran from three but I make no apologies for that).

    2. Alleged crashes
I’m not sure what to tell you here, I haven’t had this problem once. The worst I’ve had is a bit of audio stuttering and slight visual clipping, which break the immersion I grant you. However, let me remind you, YOU’RE ENGAGING IN ESCAPISM AND PLAYING A VIDEO GAME! If you want total immersion in a fantasy world of swords and such go to a Renaissance Faire and lap it up, you probably won’t see any darkspawn or dragons but at least there won’t be problems with immersion.

    3. “Clunky controls”
Should you have to lay out $60 or so for a controller just to play a game, probably not. Ideally a game should transition to all platforms without any issues. But think about it for half a second, at least we’re at a point in time where games can make a successful transition to all platforms, you may recall there was a time when you couldn’t get Uncharted on anything but PS. Now things in the industry are and have changed. If you already laid out somewhere in the high three figures and low four figures for an awesome rig…lay out the $60 and make your life so much easier while you enjoy even just the first 20 hours…after you get out of the damn Hinterlands of course.

    4. Open World/MMORPG-ness
Why is this an issue? If you don’t want to do some of the fetch/collection quests don’t do them. It’s really not an issue; the climax of the first act has NOTHING to do with whether or not you led the farmer’s druffalo back to the pasture or not. I didn’t by the way. Are you saying you’d prefer the claustrophobic environs we had in ME, ME2, DAO, DA2?

    5. Tactical controls
I’ll give you that one. The camera is a bit off and the execution of the strategic aspect of the game (i.e. behavior/commands) isn’t the best. However, you’re not playing Europa Universalis IV or Company of Heroes. You really have to keep in mind how ridiculously absurd it sounds to demand both visceral RPG combat and the ability to have a deity’s view/control of the battlefield in addition to all the other items on your list of demands for a game.

    6. Character creator
Yes, critics of it are absolutely correct. It’s terrible, but so was Skyrim’s. It’s also a lot better than what you had to work with in DAO or DAII, so again it’s really not a big issue since Bioware hasn’t regressed on that front.

Some may still have a nostalgic fetish to DA: Origin but I must say, DA: Inquisition has surpassed its two predecessors, in general.

Sure the character crafting and advancement is very console like, but this game's mechanics and questing is just too enjoyable. The visuals are spot on. They are not pushing boundaries, but are at the leading edge so that the game looks beautiful and plays the same (provided you have good hardware). Many have experienced bugs, I have not run into a single one and am playing at 5760x1080 in crossfire. Not a single crash, tear or glitch. That is remarkable to me given all the complaining around.

To be sure a character might stand on a tent, or do something impossible, but this, in my opinion is due to the novel use of verticality in the game. Because you can jump and climb, the NPCs have to be able to move to places otherwise not anticipated in an attempt to stay with you. That is not a flaw. It should not bother you.

I am about 15 hours in and am still not off the first primary objective map as they are just an unending number of things to do, each one interesting and each one worth the exp points.

To speak a bit to combat, it looks beautiful and the magics are presented in a very fun and controllable way. The only admitable problem I could see, some truly hardcore gamers may find the combat a bit too easy. For me, I only have time to drop in and out of this world, so mastery is hard. This combat is fun and intuitive, but not simple, h & s crap like DA2. It has good balance. You can make combat more or less strategic too your likely with some limitations. Overall, it is really fun.

The only complaint....WTF, bears are your ultimate nemesis, they can f-stuff up for you when you are trying to do something completely unrelated. Come on, a bear, I am running from a bear cause I know it is a fight that is gonna piss me off?! Not that you might lose, but someone is gonna need to heal, and if you are wounded heading somewhere you might run into one and the only thing you can say is WTF, a bear, now really, go away bear!

In my opinion, this a rare game where the critics have it right and the users don't. Don't hold back it is good, really good.

The story, politics, atmosphere are trilling, its been a long time that i played a game like this. I think the game is better then skyrim, dint feel skyrim story was good. But then again. I played all 3 dragon ages. This game is the really good.

I would say better then the witcher 2. To bad that its getting bashed by alot 0 reviews here. Probably trolls who dint even buy the game or maybe downloaded it? How can u say such thing , there is so much dialog, voice acting choice, Builds, party members. U even have ur own ambassadors lol. And inquisinon perks that also effect the story. The world is so huge lol. I like the quests. ok i had a gather x food, but it was nicly dialog voiceacted, that he needed some food for the poor people and stuff like that. I play the game on Nightmare. Excellent work idd Bioware. It gets me a bit mad that call of duty warfare get better score then this game...on ps4 atleast, even The Evil Within get better review score. I wonder if the guys that reviewed this are drunk? Seriosly get a life. Cheers bioware!

I think that if they had spent a little less time creating up SO many things to do in the world and redirected that effort into making those fewer things to do more meaningful, the game could have been one of the finest action-RPGs of its generation.

I see a lot of weird conservative reviews citing disgust for the LGBT promotion, and... it's actually a little bit hard to defend the game in this case. I'm pretty liberal, and I was cringing a lot at some of the gender & sexuality mini-lectures they snuck into the dialogue. Come on, Bioware. You're not going to change anyone's mind by preaching. Just let us meet new characters and make up our own minds about them. Leaving that aside, I still believe that an over-compensation for typical character archetypes is better than falling into the archetypes themselves--so, it could have been worse.

As a PC gamer, I found the port to be tolerable, if only just. It certainly beats Dark Souls. I have a powerful machine, and the game looks spectacular on maxed settings--especially the environments. A lot of work was put into this game, and it deserves to be played.

I wish there was more of a skill tree for the mages so that I could have radically different styles but at the same time I never feel like im throwing my skill points away, my biggest issue would be the leaving out of the tactics screen where you could finetune how your party fights, make your mage use a certain spell whenever there are clustered enemies or have a certain person always attack magic users as soon as they appear but it all works out in the end. all in all I LOVE this game Expand

Large immersive game, lags badly in the beginning before you really open up the world and characters. I suggest moving out of the prologue area hinterlands at speed, then coming back when and as you like.

Some of the main characters are genuinely moving in their motivations, a few feel flat but most are worth spending time getting know. Choices from the other games do make an impact but not as much as I would have liked given how much time we spent on those other games.

Story - has a few twists but I wouldn't call it mindblowing, it's not bad though. It has a slow start however, and could have used some more early game momentum. Old characters make a return but not as many as you might like, some come in later as the game progresses.

Open world means you must set the pace yourself. That means you pick and choose what to do when and where. Upgrading for your base of operations, customization for it through collectibles and development projects; several degrees of equipment customization but these don't open up fully until later levels when you get decent materials, and runes; companion quests, with a hardening like mechanic; romantic story arcs; conflicts to deal with and resolve in your own camp and outside of it; impressively again certain characters get tied into story events, and then it's up to you to navigate them and the plot through it.

There's a lot to do, don't get stuck in one part of it too long. Vary what you are doing and you might well enjoy it more, fast travel and mounts makes it easy to resume pretty much exactly where you were, in fact it makes it too easy with respawning health potions.

Healing. OMG I can't heal??? Wrong.

Eventually some characters have advanced skills with healing abilities for themselves and one for others. Lifedrain abilities, heal on kill/damage, and heal boosts as well as others I won't spoil to help you heal. You have two abilities called barrier and guard which act as temporary health, barrier when coupled with specialization and normal upgrades from the skill trees can be fairly tough on normal. Guard is overpowered imho, especially when using guard boosting abilities and a shield.

    Negatives

Tactical camera - Gets stuck on terrain/roof, doesn't give you a tactical view of the battle. If a camera fails to give you a tactical view as I can’t zoom out and often simply can’t move it into place, it’s not working right.

Controls - On the PC feel a bit sluggish. I am used to it, but the first couple of hours, and occasionally afterwards like when you are riding your horse and because it is sluggish you fall off a small cliff.

Bugs - This game has several bugs that need patching. Are any gamebreaking? Probably but none that i've encountered, but save often. Odd things like people falling out of the sky or into chairs, small camps of enemies just disappearing on a whim. It's noticeable that it needed more quality testing on the PC port before release.

Rogues in Melee, I am sure it is possible to use a rogue melee companion well, however for the average player, even with all his evades, he is as survivable as a piece of cardboard in a fire. He has no guard, no barrier (unless you can keep him close to a mage, which is dangerous for the mage melee range) and no self heals, unless you give him minor abilities from items. Conclusion - stick with ranged rogues, any rogue companion can be specialised for range combat.

Minor mention - graphical textures for medium quality character meshes are absolutely terrible. The hair looks like glue, turn mesh quality to high immediately. The world looks okay graphically on medium, the trees needed more work.

Looting – I have a love hate relationship with spamming the same key, over and over and over.

    Notes:
Combat – Average for my mage. It's simplistic in the beginning and then more fun when you work with the skill system to set up combination attacks, like freeze/shatter to boost your close combat mage's barrier and focus.

Skills can be changed around for a small cost, welcomingly companions start with all their points to allocate.

UI – is passable. It’s icons were too small for me, and each part felt segregated from the others.

Quests – The variety of quests is bigger than I could list here. Fetch, Kill, Quest, Alter the landscape, if you are not enjoying something skip it.

    Conclusion
I buy RPG’s for the characters, immersion and story, so I am rating this an 8. It does these things well, once you get out of the hinterlands! The controls, glitches, poor early pacing, lacklustre early combat, and UI to an extent make me want to give this a 7 but I am enjoying myself enough with feeling like an inquisitor, with plenty to do at 60 hours in still! I have got more than my monies worth already and I’m only halfway through, so it just squeezed in an 8 from me, just the sheer volume of content.

DLC - Needs more random events, to come to you and engage you

    the Good.

Huge world that feels like its actualy living instead of filled with things.

    Great story

    great companions especially Iron Bull

Most of the choices and made me think how they would effect me and the world.

Animations are great especially for mages.

Knight enchanter while super powerful is very fun to play.

There were almost no doors that couldn't be opened and many houses were just there with no pick ups in them and fully furnished to look like they belonged in the world. its a detail that most games ignore.

    Suggestions

    1. Ai is garbage on ranged companions, they stand in Aoes and run into melee very often. for normal encounters it doesn't matter too much but for fights with stuff like dragons it gets them killed .

    2. it is very easy to out level areas entirely so i end up skipping entire regions. changing it so if you out level an area it automatically brings things to your lvl would be helpful.

    3. last boss was super easy mainly because of my level. i think the last boss should always be a certain level above yours.

    4. Tactical mode and pc controls are kinda bad. there's enough on them in these forums so i wont repeat.

    5. After finishing the game skyhold gets really buggy. characters and objects not loading in and it wont allow me to judge anyone.

    6. an actual tactics menu like in origins would be cool.

    7. some crashes but hey i give Bethesda games free passes on this.

as the game stands i would give it a 8/10. if controls, Ai and tactical menu are fixed easily a 9/10

Something to keep in mind though, this game requires some decent hardware to get a good experience. I had turn off AA and set graphics to High (as opposed to the preset ultra) with my GTX 660 to get ~60FPS. People complaining about shiny hair in other reviews simply need to turn their mesh quality from medium to high ( i had the same issue ). This is not your grandma's dragon age, if you're using the same PC as you did in 2008 for Origins, you're going to have a bad time. I have yet to experience any sort of crashes myself, but then again my computer is a bit higher end then most and I have been using the latest Nvidia drivers that has support for this game specifically. My specs for the curious:

    Intel i7 4970k
    16 Gigs ram @ 1800mhz
    MSI gaming Z97M motherboard
    eVGA GTX 660

I have a few nitpicks, but nothing that will take away from the game. The looting system could be improved, no longer do you walk over and loot something and you click on it, you have to be right on it, a little annoying but from what I understand, the team is pooling concerns like these and rolling them out in a patch later.

Overall, the game is great looking, textures look awesome and everything seems so polished.. they took their time with this. Its a true successor to Dragon Age: Origins, if you liked Origins, get this, but then again, I assume people who did are already planning on getting this anyways, I wasn't happy with 2, seemed very rushed, but this game has already made up for it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is riding on a lot of expectations. Many people had hoped this game would bring us back to the deep and complex gameplay seen in the original game, rather than the oversimplified hack-and-slash fest that was Dragon Age 2.

In many ways, Inquisition does capture many of the original game's "feel", but it also carries over an equal amount of gameplay mechanics from Dragon Age 2 that turned many people off. I suspect this is the primary reason why the scores have been so polarized: in a number of ways, Inquisition does feel like dressed-up, prettier looking version of Dragon Age 2, and for many people that is just disappointing.

The biggest complaint probably lies in the gameplay, which is best described as an attempt to merge the more traditional, old-school RPG gameplay found in Origins with the more action-oriented system seen in DA2, Unfortunately, the result ended up feeling far too similar to DA2, with only token considerations given to Origin's mechanics. For example, a tactical camera is available that allows you to pause the game and methodically issue orders to individual party members, which can sometimes be useful in longer or larger scale battles. However, due to the fact that the vast majority of skills available to your characters are spam-and-forget (there isn't even any healing abiltiies, instead, each character carry a limited number of potions that are automatically used when they are low on health and refilled when you return to camp), and the combat being generally fast-paced (that is to say, a chaotic smash fest), there's little reason to bother with strategic plays over simply spamming your skills until your enemy is dead. Character development is similarly limited, with the only benefit from leveling up being skill points that are used to learn a limited selection of skills or spells, and the ability to wear higher-level gear.

It's clear Inquisition's gameplay mechanic was designed with "keep it simple" in mind, most likely to keep it appealing to as many players as possible. Hardcore gamers hoping for an old-school gaming experience will probably feel unsatisfied and consider the gameplay "shallow".

Having said that, if you can look past these design decisions, there's still a relatively rich and interesting game here. Inquisition picks up the story where the previous games left off, and I personally enjoyed returning to the land and lore of Dragon Age, which feels just as unique and interesting as ever. Characters and party members you meet are generally interesting and it's always fun to see how they interact with one another during your outings. There are plenty of returning characters - from cameos to full on party members - to keep veterans happy as well. The story is well written and although it meanders a bit at certain points, it remains relatively engaging and entertaining.

When you are not fighting or talking to people, you're probably exploring the various areas of the world in large sprawling maps littered with side-quests. Yes, many of these are simple fetch quests, while others involve (ugh) collectibles, but these are generally well-placed so that you will find interesting vistas, landmarks, or other neat things to see as you travel from task to task, if you're into that sort of thing.

A quick word on hardware. I play the game on high settings with a GTX770 and have had absolutely no issues. Frame rates remained solid and I have never once experienced stutters or slowdowns. This game is clearly designed to be played with a gamepad though, which I quickly switched to after realizing a mouse+keyboard is simply unnecessary and cumbersome for a game like this.

At the end of the day, if you can look past what this game is not (a spiritual successor to Origins) and focus on what it does have to offer (a solid game with a rich cast of characters and interesting lore) you will likely enjoy Inquisition.

Not as good as Dragon Age Origins, but better than DA2. "Open World" is fun, but you cannot run from one end to the other, like Skyrim. Maybe better story than Skyrim though? Has long load screens, only once crashed after 50+ hours of playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Given the negative player response to both Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3, BioWare needed a game to answer its critics and prove that they are still the best in the business when it comes to RPGs. I will not criticize Mass Effect 3 as it is one of my favorite games despite the unsatisfying ending, but I will gladly criticize Dragon Age 2 which I felt was a dreadfully poor game and a terrible follow up to Dragon Age: Origins. BioWare needs Inquisition to breathe life back into the series.

So how did BioWare do in the latest edition to the franchise? One of the chief complaints to DA2 was the use of recycles maps. There can be no such complaints in this area with Inquisition, the game is huge! Each area is feels unique and has a certain history behind it. While the large environments are fantastic to explore there is a downside to it which I will detail later. The soundtrack to game is also excellent.

Another great aspect of Inquisition is the characters. BioWare has a talent of creating interesting and memorable characters and Inquisition didn't disappoint. There are nine characters to join the party as well as having three advisors with whom you can chat and learn about. Varric returns together with Cassandra and I think they are my two favorite characters. All characters were well written and had interesting back stories. The voice acting is once again incredible.

Combat has improved from the over the top flashy mess that was DA2. The talent trees were fantastic and the battles could be challenging. I found that I often had to abandon an area which I could not defeat the enemies given my low level/poor equipment. I must give huge kudos to BioWare for the battles with the Dragons in the game! Each dragon was amazing and it was a sight to behold first seeing them in flight. The dragon in the Hinterlands and the one on the Storm Coast were in particular breathtaking!

The party camp system has changed again. Inquisition characters have their own special place within the Skyhold fortress and which you can approach them and engage them in dialogue. Skyhold itself is huge and impressive! I do think that I have yet discovered all there is to it and it is tremendous fun exploring it. It has taken me a while to figure out how to find the characters given its size and many pathways.

Given the lack of customization options in DA2 BioWare had to make changes in Inquisition. This time the player is offered a ton of customization options from weapons and armor and even changes to Skyhold itself! All of this allows the player to freedom to shape things to their own choice.

While there are plenty of positive points to Inquisition there are of course some negative aspects to the game which I think detracts it from being a truly outstanding game. Firstly the controls on PC are clumsy and can get a bit irritating. Yes it is possible to re-map the controls but it doesn’t complete solve the problems. The option of clicking an area in the distance and having your character move to there is gone. Also loot gathering is a bit of a chore again as the game requires you to be right up close to the loot to get it. Also characters failed to understand the importance of the Hold Position command. The tactical camera once again makes an appearance in the series but it was terribly done! I wanted to use the tactical camera to explore the surround but Inquisition purely uses it for combat purposed. Firstly it didn’t pull up high enough to get a decent view of the surrounds and secondly the controls made it very difficult to navigate with. Apart from the battles with the various dragons I ended up not using the tactical camera. While the game has these vast and beautiful areas to explore I felt that this ended up being a distraction from the main story. The game does not force you to do things in a hurry (for which I am grateful) but while spending hours if not days in the vast maps I think the main story kind of got forgotten in the background. Much of the exploring takes place in unpopulated areas which makes the world seem a bit empty. The main storyline was ok but I think it still doesn’t compare to that of the Witcher 2.

On the whole I think that Inquisition is a solid game. There are definitely areas for improvement but I think this game does prove that BioWare is listening to their fans. There are many wonderful qualities in the game and it is easy to spend over 60+ hours playing. It is definitely value for money! I do not think however that the game itself will be enough to convince those players who felt burnt after DA2 and ME3 that BioWare can produce the best games.

I've played TONS of mmorpg's with years of in depth gameplay and dragon age inquisition is a TON of fun for many reason. First, the breathtaking soundtrack is absolutely amazing on my 5.1 Surround sound that i feel like i entered a whole new medieval era by loading the game, feels like i'm at the movie theater. Second, The graphics graphics graphics, so much shine, sparkle, and flare every fight feels exciting, you can tell by the amazing graphics what class and role a character is without having to mouse over their icons, it's wonderful. Thirdly, the story has many twist and turns, so for you negative reviewers who can't keep up with a realistic medieval style story line which shifts with multiple running roles, you must have had a hard time reading in school. This game grips you hard and was worth every penny of mine. There is a small learning curve and i mean small that was all, once you get over the crybaby hump that all these kids are ranting about you learn there is a lot at play. Small things like treasure placement, and a easier way to loot isn't a reason to break this game down. As a mmorpg for the next gen console's and the pc it's easily carving the way for future mmorpg's and stands alone on it's own. Reviews are high because hardcore gamers look beneath the rubble exterior to find what's inside and this game has all the basis covered with a very well polished graphics, realism, and great soundtrack. Every fight feels epic as hell and intense. Turn up your volume!!!!!!!!!!!!! Expand

I can understand the rambling about uncomfortable controls on PC (which is very true), the virtual lack of any background story for the Inquisitor (which really hurts), or the not-so-good tactical view (this hurts most), but these are hardly arguments to review this Dragon Age so low. The story is very good, the characters well written and interesting, the graphics and music outstanding, there is so much to do and see it's hard to grasp. After my first walkthrough (hard difficulty, around 60 hours) I could give it 9/10, and after spending some time on the hardest difficulty with my second walkthrough, the rating would go down to like 7/10, but come on, give me a game where you detect more serious than trivial flaws only after playing so long? My count of the total time spent with the game is now around 230 hours and I still haven't seen everything. I don't believe I devoted so much time to any game ever in my life, and I went through most of the most recognizable ones. Expand

I normally don't leave reviews (as you can tell this is my first review on metacritic) but I feel like everyone who left a negative review is just flat out mentally disabled.

Honestly I've read the majority of the negative reviews and had to create an account just to say how stupid they all were. They complain about the controls and not there not being an auto attack. Please explain to me how the movement controls were crappy. WASD is the standard for all movement in any damn game, and they even included Q and E strafing. I have no idea how you would even implement click + move in a game where you *SHOULD* be constantly moving while attacking in order to maximize damage/strategic positioning. You complained about the tactical camera and then went on to describe how you were using it and you were using it COMPLETELY WRONG. Honestly I feel that's the only way to give this game a bad rating: you had no idea what the hell you were doing. The controls were fine and I was able to jump, strafe, and sneak up on my enemies when I needed to. Spam clicking? No idea what youre talking about there guys, you HOLD DOWN THE BUTTON. And to the people complaining about tab, youre no better. Tab is to lock onto a target, not to chose a target. You can click on the individual you want to target with your mouse. If you kill your target that you were aiming at with your mouse OMG CLICK TAB AND ITLL AUTO SELECT THE CLOSEST ENEMY TO YOU!! I honestly feel that the overwhelming majority of people who gave this game a negative review are simply confused, simple minded fools who didn't bother learning the controls, gameplay mechanics, or anything else of the sort before rating it. Sorry they didn't include a 20 hour tutorial for you on how to control your character. This is dragon age, it isn't meant for little kids.

The combat actually required strategic thinking and using abilities in certain orders to achieve combos and coordinating with your AI characters to achieve even stronger ones. Bet half the negative reviewers didn't even know about this feature because they only spent 10 minutes playing.

And then once again people complaining about AI controls and their short term memory... Oh god this was laughable. It's as if they didn't even go to the menu. You don't adjust your AI through the tactical camera, you go to their behaviors and change who they follow/attack/which skills they use and when.

Not quite sure how you can say the menu was clunky, everything was extremely organized. Weapons in 1, and then split up into all the types of weapons, armors and their types in another, accessories and their types in another, upgrades in 1, and so on. I literally have no idea what the majority of people are complaining about. I really think they just didn't play this game because everything they are describing is them not playing the game it's supposed to be played. They are using the controls wrong, controlling the AI wrong, and flat out have no idea what they are doing.

I honestly want to give this game a 10/10, but I cannot due to the lack of thought given to PC controls and the random crashes during cutscenes. The game is magnificent otherwise and truly a masterpiece. It really blows my mind that simple effort was not put into the PC control scheme. No auto attack and automatic move to when trying to loot baffles me, as it is simple to implement.

Graphics/voice acting/narration etc superb however like other reviewers have commented there is perhaps too much grinding (levelling up ie power) to proceed with the main story. This game does deliver however, but requires a great deal of investment early on. For instance only after playing 10+ hours did I feel the story come together. I originally bought this game on ps4 and soon traded it in since the restricted input afforded by a controller made the game tedious and clunky to play; this like many RPGs are much better on PC given the easier and more varied management of input (keyboard + mouse that is). I decided to give it a second go after replaying the mass effect series (extremely recommended) when I thought I should give bioware another go and it does pay off in the long term. If youre interested in character investment and significant decision making in the game (similar to mass effect 2 squad selection and mass effect 3 race recruitment) this is certainly a good candidate. I believe some strategy and tactical gameplay is required in this game although it may be more frustrating for hardcore DA fans to bear; for me it was good fun without being too simplified.

The only faults I can see in my opinion is that I would have appreciated the option to explore a darker plot (ie whether to become corrupt as inquisitor, turn on allies after the war, etc etc) which would have made the story more mature (and better rounded) rather than an everybody lives happily ever after type ending. Additionally the games story seems to rap up very quickly towards the end and the final boss battle is fairly underwhelming (major bad guy could have been better voice acted to make him scarier in my view too) especially If you craft weapons or amour which easily outmatch any collectibles in the game.

Bottom line is I would very much recommend this as a story rich RPG that allows a lot of freedom in terms of achieving story objectives (e.g recruiting mages or Templars to the order etc) with the above caveats.

Recommended although not quite as good as mass effect trilogy (what is...?) The storys definitely quite good IMHO, certainly the most ambitious RPG to date and 95% of the time it pulls it off well

Bioware have done much with patches to make the games controls better, and while they're not as good as Dragon Age Origins, they're a lot better, and now I can actually play the game, I think the story more than makes up for it, it really is amazing when you get the campaign going.

I am absolutely blown away by the surreal beauty of the game, the voice acting is insane, the story and characters are so rich and meaningful and the world is like a character of its own. I've never had so much fun touring around areas and discovering the wonders of the world they created (move over skyrim).

The story and political intrigue around building the inquisition is so well done - I feel invested in the choices I'm making - especially the religious dynamic - which as an atheist is a stretch. But I'm toiling over whether to accept the praises of my followers and acknowledge their belief in me (even though I'm a dwarf!), or whether to deny them based on my own uncertainty. I can't wait to see what I'll decide as the tale unwinds.

Gameplay is a good mix between DA 1 and (ick) 2. Bringing back at least a modicum of the majesty that was DAO's combat system. And replacing tactics with the ability preference system seems logical to me as DA2's more action oriented system made tactics almost useless/unworkable. Is it an old school RPG in the baldur's gate vein? No, it is more of a hybrid between WoW, Fable/Mordor and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. But it blends all these styles so well - I am *loving* the game play of the dual wielding rogue - and the random times that I use Casandra or Varric, it's a treat to see the game's different play styles come to life.

And finally the epic mission to build your powerbase, the agents, resource hunting, crafting, politics - unbelievable. No one can pull this off like BioWare. Yes I hate EA, yes they have "dumbed down this game for the console peasants" - but man did Bioware shine through the manipulation and profiteering. Thank god they kept stupid micro-transactions and incessant DLC out of the game.

This is one for the ages - and makes Dragon Age the best overall RPG franchise in history (IMHO). Yes, DA2 was a broken, repetitive, movie on rails piece of garbage - but being book ended by the epic, traditional masterpiece that was DAO and this gem of an action RPG almost (almost...) erases its horror from my memory!

PS. I have a beast of a PC, so I can't comment on performance issues. Plays amazing on ultra settings (with a few slowdowns here and there) with my 2014 xmas ~$400 purchased video card (AMD R9 200 series?). Loading times are still terrible, but what can you do.

I'm getting a solid 45 fps at 1080p on a G1 970 at the highest possible settings. I've even down-sampled and played at 2160p with a solid 30 fps. I've had less than 5 crashes in 100 hours of play time and run into 0 game breaking bugs. Performance and graphics wise, there is nothing to complain about, unlike AC Unity.

    Gameplay/Controls: 7/10

It can be called clunky at times, but that by no means warrants a 0/10. The controls are very mmo-esque, which I have no problem with because I've played many mmos. For those who haven't, I can see where you are coming from.

Now, the tactical camera is actually very useful, especially for me because I'm playing on the hardest difficulty. In extremely challenging fights against things like dragons I literally pause the tactical camera every second to control my companions and select the best abilities to use. For some, this is terrible because they want brainless action. For others, it's welcomed because you can't mindlessly run in and wipe the floor with your enemies. Now, the tactical camera is not without flaws. As many have mentioned, the camera is too close and does not allow you to zoom out enough, but this is not game breaking. You can move the camera around, so it just takes more time and maneuvering. Also, the pathing system used when commanding characters to travel to a certain destination is terrible. The AI will not jump onto rocks and get to where you want them to go. This is also not game breaking, but it can get you killed a lot.

    Story: 8/10

I don't have confidence in my ability to analyze a story because I always hated English and disagreed with the "professional" and "formal" analysis. To me the story is good, not spectacular, or terrible. There are many cameos of past Dragon age characters and references to past events. It explores the Dragon age universe further than any other game has and adds a lot to the Dragon age universe, for that I am grateful.

I'm getting bored of writing this review, if I get a lot of users saying it was/wasn't helpful I'll add more, here's some numbers.

    Multiplayer: 7/10

    Characters: 8/10

    Fun Factor: 9/10

    Content-size: 11/10

Completing this game 100% would take a REALLY long time, so long that it's disheartening.

    Biggest disappointment: Multiplayer... just disappointing

Biggest surprise: Massive amount of content that doesn't feel like a grind... at least not as much of a grind as Destiny.

1, The campaign is stuffed full of MMORPG grind quests.
    2. Too many generic FedEx quests.
    3. Bad tactical/party controls.
    4. The stupid ME dialog wheel where, all too frequently, what you say is a surprise to you because it doesn't even remotely match the option.
    5. The 'open world' isn't that open and is more like a bunch of really big rooms with artificial movement constraints rather than the openness of a Morrowind or Skyrim.
    6. The jumping controls and platforms are so bad that the minor jumping puzzles scattered about are nearly impossible.
    7. The inventory and save systems both suck.

But the game, despite the flaws, has been very enjoyable. It's amazingly good looking on my computer (top of the line video) and it's been relatively bug and crash free for me, though it does crash hourly on my daughter's computer for reasons we don't understand.

It can be a little lagish, despite my i7 processor, but nothing terrible, just the odd pause every now and then. But most of the time I get great frame-rates with no stuttering despite having the graphics turned way up.

The world, which is really a bunch of big rooms, is still amazingly good looking and, hands down, beats every other CRPG I've played in looks. The best part was the ocean which is, simply put, the best rendered ocean in any game I've ever played. Ever. Regardless of genre. t's amazing and a far cry from the joke water of SWTOR some of their other titles.

The main quest does a great job of tying in DA:O and DA2 into a uniform whole. Many of the non-FedEx side quests go well beyond 'mere-filler' are very interesting. The dialog, when it's not coming out of left-field, and NPCs are really well done. The crafting system is enjoyable and not overly tedious.

My rating rating is 80/100 because of the MMO-grind elements and some gratuitous padding with FedEx quests.. My daughter, who isn't a driven completionist, gives it a 95/100 since she doesn't let herself get sucked into the MMO-like aspects..

This is my first metacritics review but I could no longer stand how underrated this game has been by players. For AAA titles, official press reviews have had a decline in quality for a few years already; press gives a score often far above real value.

So user reviews on Metacritics have become my #1 quality control system. It has been rather reliable (not always) but never left me with any need to send out my own review.

However, in Dragon Age Inquisition, I see that "player scoring" failed. So I thank you for reading more...

I played this game one year after release. And I almost canceled my purchase after reading the player reviews. I eventually tried the game - and I will never regret it!

My game pleasure started a bit low; after a great moment customizing my character with DA very comprehensive tools, i had a bit of low pleasure experiencing the first story contents, character progression and first environments.

The skills I could acquire while leveling didn't begin as a strong incentive; the story felt a bit "quick"; the first environments were too bright and a bit too common.

The game doesn't give you much direction to follow, but this was a great advantage to me, considering the linear paths DA2 sent us into, I liked more freedom.

At that time, the score I would have given the game would have been 6 or 7.

But the flaws of the game were not any of the ones I read in other reviews: no drastic bug, no problem with dialogue contents or frequency, no problem with the frequency or variety of side missions; no problem wit the open world and no problem left clicking and aiming foes (but I have to say that I am an Archer, and also, that this behaviour might have been patched).

Combat was simple, but then slowly grew to become super fun. 3 fours into the game it was still a bit too simple. But it improves surprisingly. 20 hours into the game it became even excellent; and the more I gained experience, the more dire the challenges, the more fun I was having.

This applies to all other parts of the game and is the most exceptional thing about it; the more you play, the more fun, gameplay and quality you experience. And all this in its gameplay, and not even from its story progression

This is the opposite of what I had in plenty of other games, be they roleplaying games or strategy games. In roleplaying games, it is usually the story progression that kept me in and having fun, not the gameplay in itself; gameplay-wise, the game often reaches a point where you are strong and the events are just repetitive and detrimental to the gameplay.

I saw a player compares Inquisition to Kingdom of Amalur; I strongly disagree. Amalur sure has a large open world and repetitive action combat; repetitve killings of small creatures and small side quests you do not feel attached to; Inquisition actually starts a bit like that, but after a few hours you discover where the game shines.

The small missions you encounter while exploring the open world are not meant to make you feel strongly attached to them. But they are a great part of your character political and heroic progression. Your hero is a starting leader and you live that experience freely and entirely.

I have encountered dialogue options that left me thinking and pondering my choices for MINUTES; three minutes for some, and a full 15 minutes for one.

The only game that previously left me pondering a dialogue option for three minutes was The Witcher (shall I allow the crowd to kill that witch that is innocent of that crime, but has committed others? is she actually innocent?), or maybe Planescape Torment once.

In Inquisition, the game already gave me plenty of meaningful choices. These options, however, are mostly political. This is the first roleplaying game I encounter that focuses many of its decisions on political choices, and it feels great, compelling, challenging and very original.

I could go on and speak of some outstanding environments you encounter maybe in you 6th to 10th hour of game time, or of how combat feels more and more enticing as you play more. I could speak of how it "feels real" when you upgrade your small camp into something more impressive.

I have around 16 hours of game time and I can see how I could sink 200 hours into it, without feeling it as repetitive as, say, even a great RPG such as Lords of Xulima, or anopen-world such as Skyrim.

I believe the game biggest flow is how uneven it can be. It starts out actually so weak, with its least original environment. There are other places like the swamps that are much more interesting to explore.

I started with a score of 7 in this game; I am now at 9.
It is possible that it will grow to 10, or will fall to 8 before it ends.

In my experience, it is just one of the greatest RPGs I have ever played. DAI is better than Skyrim, DAO or DA2 in its decisions; and worse than Skyrim in visual quality. But overall I enjoy DAI even more and already expect a longer time with it.

Why did Bioware near everything right and deserves the RPG crown?

Why did Bioware near everything right and deserves the RPG crown?

    Performance:

To start this report I will show you my equipment:

    I7 4970K – 4,0 Ghz
    16 GB Ram
    Geforce 780 – 3 GB VRAM

I played Dragon Age: Inquistion about 100 hours (still not finished yet) and I had never any lags or performance problems, but I know that my equipment do not represents the “standard PC”.

    Criticism of the gamers:

In my opinion, Bioware took the criticism of the gamers/players really serious.

You will now sit there and ask, WHY ?

    First Thing: Open-World

The problems of Dragon Age 2 were the tunnel parts and the massive level recycling. They fixed it very well.
You still have “parts” on your world map but each part is an own little world and you can see the beautiful and carefully details. The weather effects, the vegetation, the interaction of the world and their occupants.
The love and accuracy they used to design each “part” is just wow and they are all different so you will not come into the affliction to see the same part again and again ;-).

Ready, steady FIGHT ( The Fight options )

Ok, I need to say that I was a little irritated the first time I started Dragon Age 3. The plan in my head said:

Walk → Meet the bad guy → Get a break → Coordinate your troops → Let them fight → WIN

The game said NO. In the “interactive mode” you walk and hit your opponents on your own, that means you need to interact direct, press 1-8 and hold the left mouse button to smash them all.
The second mode ( Press T at the start of the fight ) is the tactical mode or what I call it the knights of the old republic mode ;-). You are able to, like I already said, coordinate you troops ( Attack X, use ability Y, move to position Z) but it is affably to say that the “tactical view” is a big problem.

You will ask again, WHY ?

The zoom does not give you a whole overview of the battlefield and is not able to hide objects that would block your sight and that sucks HARD.
The problem is, I play on level difficult hard and it is hard, so it is necessary to use the tactical view to win.
To say it clear Bioware failed at this point and need to fix it else some people will grab through there TFT and scream till they die ;-).

    The crafting system

The crafting system is nice, not perfect. You are able to craft armor and weapons for all of your group members. The difference between other systems is that for example a heavy armor can have parts like bracers and cruises that are nothing else than attribute spenders. That means that things like shoes for example are now just upgrade parts of the armor.
-You are able to craft everything if you have the right recipe ( You will find them on your way).
-Each weapon and armor have basic stats, the other parts will add new attributes or boost them.
-Sad is that you can’t craft any jewels.
At the start the crafting systems feels a little bit weak, but after the first big “special fight” it will break through the top and you will have some fun with it.
It necessary to find the right material to craft the stuff you need/want so catch them if you can ;-).

    The group of mass destruction

Three characters + yourself. You will find them on your way, each of them have their own story and special tree. That means each class (for example mage) has some skill trees that every mage has + the special one. The Story / Quests To say it from the start. It is impossible for me to understand the “flame” of some people if they just play 2 hours and say the story/the quests are **** I did not finish the story yet because I found so much more. Tons of characters, books and hints it is just fantastic. I do not want to spoil you but take your time and try to find everything on each “map” if you love RPGs you will smile all over your face. Dragon Age 3 tells you so much about the past, present and future of the game and for me, it can easily kick Dragon Age 1 from the story throne. Bugs (a really important part) My report will be short ;-). I found some few bugs but nothing that would stop your gaming experiences, they did a great job or to say it in another way, Bioware is NOT UBISOFT ;-). For me it is the best Dragon Age of all and my personal game of the year of 2014. Big THANKS to Bioware and thanks EA that you did not …… up this game.

I strongly believe that Dragon Age Inquisition (DaI) is a worthy successor for Dragon Age: Origins (Da:o). The game is massive, full of details (even the smallest crack in a small rock might hide something) and life.

I strongly believe that Dragon Age Inquisition (DaI) is a worthy successor for Dragon Age: Origins (Da:o). The game is massive, full of details (even the smallest crack in a small rock might hide something) and life.

    COMPANIONS and PLAYER

The companions you get are well written, with great dialogs and strong emotions. Everyone with their own agenta, fears, hopes and jokes. Even your advisors feel like real people and can intervene with their future and alter it. Yes there is unfortunately a bug with the banter, but i was lucky enough to have a bit more chit chat with my companions in my second playthrough.

The character creation is with no doubt and by far the best one in the trilogy. You can create such a beautiful player or a monstrous one with a few clicks. My only problem is the lack of hair but hopefully it can be fixed in the future.

Our player is the herald and Inquisitor. The leader of a land, fallen to chaos. Depending of his origin he will have different choice options in talking. (I am not very familiar with this as its my second playthrough. I have player a human and now an elf and i see some differences). One thing i would love to see is why we whent there. Like our origin story in Da:o, maybe a cutsceen like a small prologue.

I have played a mage and now an archer. Both are strong and useful in their own way, but nowadays it seems lockpicking isnt important. The doors you have to unlock are very few maybe 10-20 at most. Although the abilities may look not enough they are all very useful.

    MAPS and STORY

The maps. Anyone who has played the game has seen how beautifully and uniquely are each area. From dark, muddy wastelands, to enormous desserts and beautiful oases and the gem of all gems the Val Royeaux (such a gorgeous city, you can totally feel the glory and of course the Game). The maps are full with creatures, enemies and side quests.

The main plot is very well written although i would like it to fill me with more feelings. In my first playthrough it gave me that awe, epicness, sadness, amusement and even pride when some important events happened. The plot quests are perfect in my opinion. I was surprised to see the difference between allying with the templars or mages. The Game, with the Empress Celene was breath-taking, magnificent and one of the outcomes was an epic fail, hilarious. I can say that i would love to see an actual war between the mages and templars apart from the scattered conflicts. It would totally give the game the epicness of Da:o.

The ending was way too hard for me in my first attempt. I never was the guy that knew and used the tactical mode and yes i died in custom difficulty. Then killed some dragons and used the tactical camera (a pain in the ass) and the battle was very easy. But i'd like an ending like in Da:o where you had your army, killed your fair share of monsters and then the crazy villain. Although the end actually wasn't with the Elder One but in the previous quest so it kinda fixes it.

    Technical(settings, special effects, art)

The special effects are well- made, the fire, the water, the rain and everything else feels so real. About our players, the movements, the jumping, they way the interact with the terrain must be mentions. Everything shows commitment and hard work from the creators. Also they give to the game some important things that the previous missed. Everything in DaI feels real, fluid in comparison to the static Dao, Da2.

In September and October, i played again the previous games Da:o and Da2 (for the 20th time) to get in the mood again and take my mind from the long anticipated DaI. As a result the PC installment was a bit hard for me to use for the first few hours (although that happened to me when i went back from Da2 to Da:o). It took me about 1-2h to get used to the keys. I had to re-arrange them to fit more to Da2 which had the best keys for me, the auto-loot and auto-attack.

Unfortunately my laptop is a bit old and would play the game in high settings if it wasnt for my processor. Before the 9/12 i faced my fair share of bugs and 2 crashes. I had to keep almost all my settings to low to be able to play the game without lagging. And even with this situation i still thing that the games graphics are well made even for the lowest settings. Now most of my annoying bugs and glitches are gone with the second patch, thankfully. And yes the hair is fixed, no more that shiny, plastic texture.

I adore what they have done with the player cards and the entry's one. That minimal, medieval, artist option was brilliant..

Last but not least the music. In Da:o the music was a masterpiece, it was epic, dark, exciting and full of emotion. The same can be said the music is sensational and epic.

Overall all these changes create a more mature environment that has so much potential for dlcs and many more improvement i couldnt be more satisfied from this game. And the money i gave for the deluxe edition were well spent.( thnxs for reading)

I gotta say thatOk so if you want a honet review about a game that many people are skeptical about, then you came to the right place. First off, let me say now that i got the game on launch date and i have been a huge fan of all Bioware games since i got Mass Effect. After playing through the entire game, well most of it actually, i finally got the guts to see what the fans were saying. I gotta say that im at awe about some, if not, most of the reviews about this game. People are saying that the graphics are garbage, the voice acting is aweful, and the story is not the compelling. They must be blind and deaf to say such things.

Now i will say that the story, compared to Origins, isnt the best, but it is way better than DA2s story. It might be because of the writing, but it felt that this story didnt have that much of a dangerous road, just seal the rift and you're done. The world didnt feel like it was danger but you could say the same thing about Dragon age origins.

The graphics are simply beautiful, but i can see where people are coming from about the hairs looking greasy. My father got the xbox 360 version of the game while i got the xbox 1 version, and comparing the two, you can see the huge lack of details that had to be cut to make the 360 version compatable. So for those complaining about the graphics, you must be refering to the 360 version, but the 360 version is not that bad graphic rise. The new gene and pc ports however look very stunning, and im quite impressed with everything they put into it.

The voice acting is quite good. I mean for those complaining must be listening to a different game all together. I mean the original voice actors for Alistair, Leliana, Varric, Cassandra, and Morrigan make there return and if people didnt complain about them then, why now? They sound the same. And the voice actor for james vega is in it as well and most people liked his voice acting so why hate now? And they even went out of their way to supply you with two voice actors for the inquisitor, odds are you will like one of them.

Now i will say this, the sidequests do feel very bland. I mean in the other Dragon age games, you had these side quests that had a somewhat compelling story. In this game however, it didnt feel that way. It was, you find a ring for a woman and return it, or you open a chest. Even then you couldnt make the choice to sell the ring or keep it for yourself. The other games did allow you to make some sort of choice witht these side quests that could add to your character, but it was lacking in this game.

However, the choices in this game, i mean main decisions btw, it did feel like you were changing the fate of thedas. From who rules orlais, to who you get it on with, it felt like you were making a difference. And yes for those wondering, the keep does work and your decisions do carry over. Both of my love interests in the other games were mentioned in some way and my warden was continuing her story as well, which proves that she was still alive.

Dont worry about the ending. It is not a complete and utter disappointment like it was for ME3. you get a solid ending that does and doesnt feel like a sequel bait. If i had to guess, it will continue as some sort of DLC in the future.

Combat wise, it felt descent enough i suppose. It wasnt a button mash like in DA2, but instead more of a "hold a button to win" . The tactical game wasnt all that helpful for me so i didnt really use it all that much, it may be better on the PC but i wouldnt know. But the combat did do its part and it didt really feel all that boring to me.

On launch day, it did have many glitches from sound technical difficulties to clipping issues, but it has had some patches over the days which has fixed alot of these problems.

So all in all, if you are a RPG fan then i highly recommend you to get this game. So thats it for this review and i will catch you fine people later.

Genuinely my favorite game of all time. I won't bother to counter the meta-reviews some are partaking in - either you will enjoy this game (possibly to the extent I do, possibly less so) or you will be made incapable of doing so by an irrational bias against BioWare and it's current design idiom. In the latter case, there's nothing to be done and I won't bother arguing with zealots.

For those who aren't predisposed to despise the game, there's a great deal to enjoy here. It is absolutely true that the minor quests are of a more 'MMO-style', and whether or not that's to your taste is something you'll have to decide for yourself. I personally found them engaging enough that I completed almost all of the content the game had to offer. Moreover, these quests are a counterpoint to the grand scale of the main plotline, which contains some of the best secondary character writing I've ever seen in a game. Narratively, this game compares very well with Mass Effect 2.

The combat in this game is also enjoyable, and if you play on a higher difficult will reward care and micro-management. If you'd prefer a more 'cinematic' style of combat, dialing the difficulty down to normal will reward you.

There's little else to be said here. Give the game a go. While you may not find it as swoon-inducing as I did, I think you'll like it if you come at it with an open mind.

There are a number of things that seem consolized, especially the quick bar which limits you to EIGHT abilities or spells at any given time, even if you have double that unlocked. There are a few other small things that were annoying but overall the game is pretty solid. The story was fairly good, most of the characters had quite a bit of depth (especially Dorians quests which were extremely well done), and the gameplay for the most part is just plain fun - leaving the alleged "tactical" camera out of it, anyway. The character banter can be pretty hilarious (Bull/Sera, Varric/Cassandra etc) and entertaining, and relative to this the voice acting is pretty good for most characters as well. The crafting system is pretty good, if a bit simplified. Some of it does feel a bit MMO'y, but you can easily slip "those" types of quests and still end up with well over 60h+ of solid gameplay. Music is quite good, too.

I wouldn't say its the best out there but it's a ton of fun, have played it through twice now and will probably do a third run down the road at some point when I have nothing else going on and hopefully they've fixed the bugs and patched the loltastic 8 ability limit on PC. If you aren't a giant man baby that expecting Origins 2.0, go buy this. At the very least wait until boxing day and you'll probably score it 25-50% off. I would give it an 8/10 overall, but since the goofs giving 0s and 1s are completely skewing the user score of this game, I'll give it a 10 just to balance things out a bit.

Graphic is superb, combat is fast and iteresting (one of the bright momens in DA2 is combat and here it is even better). The story, so far, is immersive and even side quests are nicely done. Yes, there are a few fetch quests, but show me a game that does not have them, there are classical quests kill mages/templars/thieves in their hideouts, but next to this, you have quests to chart star constellations, craft specific items to help the Inquisition or find a key from undergroud dwarven city.
The only thing I do not like is the tactical camera. But as it is an optional part of the game I simply do not use it. I have also never used the top view in DAO except for two riddles. The AI of my companions is also surprisingly good. Ranged characters stay in range, fighters tunt and go in for a close combat. Overall I am satisfied.

I found this game to be a very worthy successor to Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. I LOVED Dragon Age: Origins, and despite the criticisms of Dragon Age 2, I also truly loved Dragon Age II. The graphics of Dragon Age: Inquisition are great. The companions are amazing - they are so well written written and there is so much great banter between the companions themselves and between the companion and the Inquisitor. There are many difficult choices that must be made that have dire consequences that greatly affect the world. The brought the ability to equip your companions back (Dragon Age 2 dropped this, and I was relieved to see that Dragon Age: Inquisition brought this back). The main story was great, with many surprising plot twists, and was also very inspiring at times (I truly felt like I was a hero saving the world a few times).

But the switch to an open world game actually hurt the story - since I am a completionist, I would spend HOURS doing side quests (many of which can accurately be described as simple fetch quests) so that each awesome plot advancement of the main story would be divided by HOURS of gameplay (which did begin to feel tedious and meaningless at times), and this weakened the story a lot. I am not a huge fan of open-world games like Skyrim because those games always have very weak main story that isn't compelling. Dragon Age: Inquisition suffers from this. There is no compelling story arc pulling you through the game and inspiring you to continue (actually, the story arc is there, but it is broken up by hours of fetch quest, so the story doesn't feel very compelling and the story suffers a lot).

And while I thought the companions of Dragon Age: Inquisition were great, I still had a stronger attachment to the companions of Dragon Age: Origins (and I even liked the Dragon Age 2 companions a bet better).

Also, another negative for Dragon Age: Inquisition was that they made the tactical camera a secondary (and not very practical) way to play. I love the old Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights systems of pause and play tactical combat, where you use strategy and pause the game to issue commands. Unfortunately, Dragon Age: Inquisition went with a much simpler, faster paced, action combat system that requires waaaaaay less strategy. There is the option to use a tactical camera for more traditional pause and play combat, but it's controls are so bizarre and counter-intuitive that I rarely used it, and I believe the game was not meant to be played using the tactical camera (whereas a tactical camera was how both the preceding games were intended to be played). This was a huge disappointment and step backwards.

All-in-all, despite the flaws and my disappointments mentioned above, I still found the good to outweigh the bad by a large margin and feel that this game was truly a masterpiece of RPG gaming. Thanks Bioware.

I personally much prefer a real-time battle than the tactical (paused) battles and it certainly does make the fights exciting (and crazy frantic at times i.e. Descent DLC) and fun. DA:I has this in spades, and battles always feel fun and fresh. Especially when going for the Elder Dragons when you've levelled up enough!

There's a good choice of companion characters you can choose, and there are many to choose from, of different specialisations. I like the idea that ALL characters level up concurrently, so you can choose to swap characters ANY time in the game - therefore, allowing you to try different characters and their powers WITHOUT having to restart in order to play other characters. Overall this game is well built to allow you to play through once THOROUGHLY (easily 100+ hours of content), and with different characters as and when you wish. And closing those Fade rifts and getting rid of demons never gets tired.

If I have to gripe at something, then perhaps sometimes the control scheme is a bit wonky. For example, when trying to close Fade Rifts, I sometimes can't see my cursor clearly, plus the chaos of battle doesn't really help. But that's such a minor gripe.

This is a near perfect RPG experience, and to me, even better than Skyrim, which I've also spent 100+ hours on. I can't wait for Dragon Age 4 - if they can improve on it further!

As usual Bioware has good plot and character writing, and from what I've seen I think they hit a sweet spot between introducing new characters and using characters from previous games. As tends to be the case, some characters were very interesting and loveable, while others were frankly annoying or kinda boring, but that could just be a matter of taste. I did feel that it fell a little flat though trying to balance the main character between the very open approach of Origins and the extremely restrictive approach of DA:II--you can choose the race, sex, appearance, and voice of your character, but it doesn't affect the story (even the intro sequence, as in Origins) in any significant way, and your character's background story is never developed and is pretty much irrelevant to the story. I very much liked the vast open-world approach, with its many different environments and visual themes, especially after DA:II forced us to play in the most confined, dull, copy-pasted environments ever. I also liked the introduction of armor/weapon crafting, which is great for players who like to tinker with that sort of thing and maximize their stats, while still being entirely optional, for players who don't want to bother. Likewise I enjoyed the customizable base, but felt that Bioware was pretty arbitrary with what it allowed you to customize: for example, you have over a dozen choices for curtains, window glass, beds, etc. but you cannot customize your casual attire, which is boring as hell, nor can you ever actually finish repairs on the castle--even once you're the most powerful person in the realm, apparently you can't get someone to fix holes in the wall or clean up debris completely. My major complaint for the game, and one that really bothered me throughout the game was the big changes to battle mechanics, UI & controls, and character's skills/attributes/tactics. First, unlike previous games you don't have an auto-attack, so you must hold down a button to continue to attack, which can make other tasks (like selecting enemies) difficult. You also must manually maneuver from enemy to enemy, and you can't 'lock on' to enemies as in previous games, so its often difficult to make sure you're attacking the right enemy, and if you're a melee fighter, positioning correctly can be a huge pain. There are also many changes to battle mechanics, such as the absence of healing spells and the introduction of barriers and guard for defense, lack of sustained abilities, non-regenerating health, etc. Most of these aren't necessarily bad, but they do take some getting used to. Second, and worst of all, is the UI, which was clearly designed with consoles, not PCs, in mind. The quest tracker blocks a significant portion of the screen, which is especially annoying given the huge beautiful environments. The action bar is limited to only 8 ability slots, which is incredibly frustrating as you will end up learning plenty of abilities that you won't be able to actually use, since they're not on the bar. Moreover, your companions can likewise only use abilities on their action bars, so they too are very restricted on what they can do. The tactical overhead view, which was a very helpful part of Origins and even DA:II is practically useless in this game: the camera is awful and companions don't like to actually do what they're told, and with so few abilities to choose from, your tactical options are very limited anyways. Lastly, the ability/attribute system is somewhat different than previous games, and not for the better in my opinion. Much like DA:II your skills are organized intro various 'trees' (more like webs) of talents, but unlike DA:II here some are for new abilities that you can use, while some are just stat increases (e.g. +1 to cunning, +25% armor penetration). Ultimately you'll end up choosing abilities that you won't ever use (because of the action bar limit) just to get to a stat increase. This is also due to the fact that, unlike previous games, you don't get additional attribute points when you level up to spend as you like, but only through spending your 1 point per level on the ability tree, or through gear. I was rather unhappy about this, especially before I had the means to make whatever gear I wanted, because it meant that my character was effectively only able to increase 2 stats. As a rogue, I got cunning and dexterity bonuses from the skill tree, but I had no option to put points into say constitution, so that I wouldn't be so squishy in melee. To me this seems like an unnecessary restriction of player choice & customization in an RPG. In the end, I would recommend this game, and I'm sure players new to the franchise would not feel many of the same frustrations that I did, but Inquisitions falls short of being truly spectacular due to some of these flaws. I had high expectations for this game and in many ways it is very well crafted game. Unfortunately, you will feel lost in the content of the game and the game will never suck you in, like Mass Effect games does for example. Still, it is a good game and but getting back to it feels like a chore.

The story's framework is given quickly, but then you are spun around and pointed out into expanse with only your sense of adventure to guide you. The designers were smart enough to give you anchor points you can always return to, and must for aspects of the game, but otherwise your darkened map is only filled in by where you decide to go. The main line of quests would be a healthy game in themselves but its the cornucopia of discoveries you make while merely getting your bearings in Dragon Age: Inquisition, that lead to dozens, and possibly more than a hundred hours, of side quests, treasure hunts, and random encounters.

If you liked the previous Dragon Age games (or at least the first in the series), you will enjoy "Inquisition". Its bigger, bolder, and technically superior while still telling a compelling narrative. It has memorable characters, both friend and foe, while offering the highest quality of combat in a DA game, yet, and providing a plethora of loot, crafting, and relationship systems to dig in to as deep or shallow as you like.

DA:I is not a 6 hour linear shooter and the lack of an obvious path may leave those not familiar with this type of game, feeling rudderless. I urge you to fight past the first few hours of loose footing. There is a method to the madness and it can become immersive once you build a connection to the world.

DA:I is open world fantasy at its finest. Explore how you like, craft combat in real time or strategically, and romance a strange looking creature or a cheeky dwarf..... its all about choosing what you want to do.

I hope that includes giving Dragon Age:Inquisition a chance to suck you in, if it does, its one of the most rewarding fantasy gaming experiences out there.

This could easily be due to the fact that the game was forced to conform to the hardware limitations of last gen consoles, a decision that has frustrated fans of many other games to no end. In spite of this, Dragon Age Inquisition is a fantastic RPG experience amidst the sea of disappointing titles to grace the gaming industry in 2014.

The story is one of Bioware's weaker ones, though it is leaps and bounds beyond the atrocity that was Dragon Age 2. It was generally intriguing and provided fascinating snippets of lore that excited me, as a fan of the series's backstory and world. It does well in the aspect of conveying the sense that you are the leader of a world changing organisation, however it is poorly paced. The first 15 hours of the game blaze by at a lightning fast pace, only to have the plot slow to a crawl after reaching Skyhold, and without all of the side quests and companion quests, the game is rather short, and the ending is one of the most anticlimactic endings I have seen in a game for years. Even the final assault on the Citadel Beam in Mass Effect 3 was more intense, until the last 10 minutes of that game of course. Dragon Age Inquisition ends without much resolution to many of the problems the people of Thedas have faced for centuries. All it does is provide a slideshow detailing the outcome of the Mage-Templar war, which is unsatisfying to say the least. The story does provide several stand out moments, most notable the mission where you are sent to gain the help of the Rebel Mages, as well as several others that cannot be mentioned without spoiling the game.

Despite all my criticisms of the main plot, the rest of the game is extremely well presented. The visuals look gorgeous, the new vast landscapes and environments to explore look like they've been lifted straight out of a medieval painting. Sound design and voice acting are excellent as well. The characters are humorous and well written, party banter is hilarious, especially with Dorian in the party. The numerous crafting and customization options really make you feel as though your character is truly your own, something which Dragon Age 2, and the Mass Effect series struggled to achieve. Combat is intense and frenetic, the sound of crackling spells and flying arrows coupled with brightly coloured damage numbers popping over the screen provides a satisfying combination that is both enjoyable and challenging.

Dragons are one of the major selling points of the game. Their behaviour has been completely overhauled, not longer do they feel like one of many bosses sitting at the end of a long corridor, but their dynamic movement and interaction with the environment they live in truly brings them to life, and the fights themselves outdo any attempt to portray these massive scaled creatures in any other game(Yes Skyrim, I'm looking at you).

Overall, Bioware failed to deliver on their promise of a truly dynamic world, much of the content showed off at the PAX and E3 demos were cut from the final release, presumably due to hardware limitations, which is a real shame, however what we got in the end was no less than any of their previous efforts, excluding the 100 hours of side content, we still get a 40 hour long game filled with everything that makes a Bioware RPG what it is. Despite its shortcomings, Dragon Age Inquisition gets you more than your money's worth, and is a great game.

Little Details like hidden lookouts on top of some mountain made me smile. Im one of the guys who tries to jump up every mountain, and in this game you get rewarded for it, sometimes. Only the camera in the strategical view is a pain in the ass. I consider using a mod to be able to zoom out higher. The spells feel very powerful, the lightings/thunderclaps and explosions sound cool, its fun to cast spells. The sound of the swords and armors is nice too. I like the SP and would give it a 8/10, compared to skyrim with a 9,5/10.

MP gets boring fast, the same few levels again and again. They say they are randomly generated every time, but that doesnt matter, the style is the same every time, you dont feel any difference. And there is no character customisation in MP, just trough the equipment. The given character models look ugly (in MP, in SP you can create your own). Most people use "just damage" skillsets, so you die at the Endboss if you didnt get a good tank and healer (barriercaster), sometimes there are 4 DD in a group, you can instaleave then. The Endbosses are the same every time. They dont look special or powerful or mighty, they hit very hard, and are a little bit bigger than normal enemies, nothing special. I would wish for random bosses at the end, or at least some tactics to be needed. MP is a 5/10 for me. I play it at PC, graphics at max, with a 7.1 system.

So if you can get this for about 30€ or maybe 35$, its a good choice, but i wont buy it again for ~45€.

    SP 8/10
    MP 5/10
    Sound 9/10

What a great game, I really did enjoy my time with it. A very interesting story that keeps you intrigued and wanting to come back to it when you're not playing it.

Completed it in about 60 hours, with most side missions done in the first half of the game and none really touched with the second half due to being overleveled. So yes, game is a bit imbalanced in that part.

Characters are unique and very well done with great voice acting.

Economy is a fundamental part of any game in my mind and in terms of what you can buy and do with the money you acquire is astonishing, which gives you a reason to loot (and there is a lot in this game, I can say to you now, if you do not like looting I can practically guarantee this is not yur game)

I had a lot of problems with it to run in cutscenes with frequents CTD (I had to play the game in a **** graphical setup for it not to crash) and believe me it wasn't because my hardware was getting stressed, not with a i7 2600K overclocked and a GTX 780 6GB of vram. Cutscenes tended to chop and lag, but when it got to gameplay wise it was fine. So can't really comment graphics wise due to not be playing at full settings, although I can comment about the hair I know that was rubbish it looked worst than straw no matter if you run that 'thing' at max or not nothing is saving that.

Love the feeling of importance it gives you later on which I consider what it's all about in a progression based RPG.

Combat is mmo type, I was a mage (which fitted also around the story, strongly recommended) and didn't mind holding down buttons to cast spells although I can see it would maybe be worse by being a warrior/tank type.

They could of done more with the relevance of letting a character like you or not, even though you get it constantly on the bottom right of your screen e.g ''Cassandra disapproves'' , ''Vivienne slightly approves'' etc it doesn't really make any real changes to the game in any shape way or form, the only real thing it's really there for is for romancing someone, which, if you play as a heterosexual male I may add, you have a very limited number of people that'll be willing to romance you no matter if you get to their full approval or not! So major flaw there.

But apart from those issues and the most of the side missions being very dull and genreic, I really enjoyed my time with the game and I consider that it's not getting the credit it should be getting for the game it is.

I have played most game releases in 2014 and this is one of the few I've actually completed and not drifted away from in boredom or the lure of the next shiny new thing (yeah games are the squirrels of my life:). While I thoroughly enjoyed playing the game, it has a few annoying interface 'features' some the result of being designed with consoles in mind as a result the PC interface can be awkward at times. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioware rightfully made the best fantasy game only beat by Skyrim. The real draw of this game is Character customization, choices, and discovery. I always love creating a female character and this game doesn't disappoint in that respect unlike Fallout 4 for example. Inquisition still has the best dialogue system and the most decisions out of modern games. So the only competition in that respect is between well, previous Bioware titles and Telltale Games. However, most choices don't have a big enough impact. No matter who you choose, Templars or Mages, you'll still have to defend Haven from the forgettable villain. I understand that part is critical to the story but Bioware has given much more weight to choices in the Mass Effect series
. But Skyhold really is a big improvement over the Normandy. The world is plenty big and the highlights visually are the houses in the Emerald Graves, the Eleven temple in the end, and the sand dunes of the Western Approach(beat Elder Scrolls to the punch). Due to the leveling and weapon damage system, enemies had to have large health bars to make the former mechanics work. There is no point in getting a better weapon if the Red Templars succumb to one or two hits. This makes encounters long and less fun. Dragons take so long to kill.
Only at the end does the story get intriguing. This is mostly thanks to Morigan(who I kept thinking was the villain due to the reveal trailer) and the Elvin lore.Since that I was eager to make progress in the game, I skipped most of the cutscenes, dialogue, and books;something I usually don't do.It ended up cutting my playthrough in half(about 50 hours instead of the average 100+)
In a world where Gods and magic exist, religion stills gets thing wrong. Something I only realized towards the end. Not that they were morally wrong(the chantry is clearly the old christian church and a lot of it draws inspiration from the real world) but that it's not certain who these gods were as Mythal turns out not to be an Elvin god but Morigan's Immortal human mother. And there isn't proof of the maker or the Old Gods existence. The only interesting part of Coryriphius (spelled wrong) was when he mentions that the thrones in the heavens were empty. That mystery definitely will be explained in future games.
The end seems to point towards a Grey Warden civil war being a plot point for DAV. It really sucks that EA most likely took the real ending and released it as the Trespasser DLC only for current-gen. That will probably stop me from playing it as I played it on the 360 and will likely get a PS4.
So the near future for Bioware is Andromeda. Something that is taking far too long to make. Is it going through development hell? Almost. Bioware is trying to make a far more ambitious game than Mass Effect 3. But here's the problem. This is in terms of content, not substance. Clearly the scale of this game is whats being built upon. And in my opinion thats a bad thing. Inquisition would have been significantly better in terms of story, pacing, and level design if Bioware didn't try to compete with the sheer size of Skyrim. Either way, I'm almost certain that Andromeda will be a great game:)

A pretty good game. I've played DAO before trying this, but DAI got my attention much better.

Pros: + excellent storyline. It really feels like you're carving your way from a thug who's about to be executed - to someone who shakes hands with emperors and tell them what to do + pretty good combat system. I mean, it's not realistic by any stretch of imagination, but it's pretty fun.

+ pretty good combat system. I mean, it's not realistic by any stretch of imagination, but it's pretty fun. Tactics matter. Proper gear and enchancements matter. Quick reaction matters. Choosing companions and their tactical preferences matters.
+ Really beautiful graphics. It's not about the technology, I mean hello it's 2014. You can draw a very depressive scenery with cutting-edge graphics. But even with lower graphical settings - this game has beautiful.locations, characters, animation.
+ Locations are pretty goddamn big. Like really. They are limited by "invisible walls" eventually, but you don't feel them normally. DAO locations (even outdoor ones!) felt like a corridor quite often. DAI locations feel like an open-world game.
+ The game is pretty long, over 100 hours, even without exploring all the side quests, and secondary locations.
+ A proper party composition and tactics allows you to have ZERO health loss throughout all but the most intense fights (played on "hard").

    Cons:
    - Dialog choices are somewhat misleading... Same as with Mass Effect - save the game often. Chances are the next dialog will be important and you'll have to explore the tree before you get the character to say what YOU want him to say.
    - Quests on the world map are minimally rewarding and honestly kinda dumb. Like you send troops to save a city from extermination and get like 100 coins as reward - while one half-decent weapon costs 3'000 coins at your local armory. Hello Mass Effect again.
    - Not sure if it's a con, but - infinite arrows for archers...
    - Again - some might like it, but - no slow health regeneration when idle, and no healing magic (except for a few focus-powered spells - only for emergency use). Causes loooong home-runs to a camp for the sole purpose of replenishing HP. BUT - good tactics help with minimizing HP loss.

The ending was something that I should have expected but I didn't, wheater it was sequal baiting or dlc I cannot wait what they have in store for us next.
This is a must own game if you are into the genre.
    Happy Dragon hunting.

Great game itself but the PC version feels like a PS4 port. Takes zero advantage of keyboard/mouse or the raw power of a gaming PC. as an RPG it deserves a 10.

10/10 games I feel are a very rare occurrence, this is not a 10. This game is awesome. The negative scorers here may have a more nuanced style of writing than me, so I can't blame them if the story is not to their standard.

The main story is a bit lacking, i admit. But if that is the only reason you picked this game up then yeah, you will be disappointed. I'm 80 hrs in, and have done maybe a third of all the content. Truth be told, I don't want to complete all content this play through as I would like to make some different choices next time.

I played a female elf mage hoping to get down on some sweet girl on girl action in the romance scenes, unfortunately I went the straight route. Next time, I will play a male to see what Josephine is all about. The stories in this game are great. There is literally hours and hours and hours of dependent dialogue here. Verrick and Ironbull are great, I want to have a beer with them.

Graphic naysayers be damned, this game is beautiful and immersive.

Two big negatives: Not enough hot keys! I'm a mage, towards late game I ran out of hot keys for my spells, honestly that is VERY lame. The AI companion behaviors was dumbed down considerably from Origins. Personally, I would have liked a bit more options there, but I also get bored of all that **** so it wasn't a deal breaker for me like some more "hard core" players.

This game can be as challenging or as easy as you take it. I'm playing on hard and as long as I don't rush it, I'm finding the boss fights aren't overwhelming, ie, I COULD spend the whole fight(a couple of hours in some cases) in the lacking tactical mode getting my idiot companions to avoid the obvious fireballs, or I could just wander around and see what Thedas has to offer for another level or two.

    And you can't swim. wtf?!

Other than that, this game is beautiful, immersive, and reads like a B novel. If you were a fan of semi decent nerd fantasy novels as a teenager, the story will more than suffice. Get it

The inclusion of the mostly open world system was the biggest step forward for Dragon Age as a whole, finding the perfect balance between the way-too-small and repetitive map areas of DAII, and the completely open world model that would make the game quite difficult to play. It carries all of the staples of the modern polished RPG, and presents it in such a beautiful and complete experience that it is my personal Game of the Year. Bioware really has their hands on gold if they can keep this pace with the sequel.

It feels like bioware's back. It's got well developed characters, a world steeped in law, a quest that feels relevant and important and yet allows for exploration, interesting companion quests, interesting villains, even a semi-customisable base for giggles. There's a lot more content than most people will need to bother with, and the thing is people don't *need* to bother with it if they don't want to, it plays just fine without. I loved all the additional content. The PC controls are, however, very iffy. It's impossible to play mouse only, which is frustrating. No ability to run with just the mouse is a personal annoyance of mine as I also like to consume vast quantities of tea while I play. It brings the A game, anyway. It is what was promised. And, yes, I'm a real person, no, the positive reviews are not all fanboys and bioware employees. Yes, some people really do love this game. I'm over 200 combined playthrough hours in. Expand

I don`t understand why people give it negative score??? this game much better, than DA2. BioWare really tried hard and fixed all the problems they had with DA2. Until Witcher 3 will be out, this game is the best RPG! No other one can compete them!!!

You can craft to upgrade gear (yes, you have to collect resources and obtain recipes, which frankly got me curious about the game to begin with), you get a mount that you can upgrade with its own barding and plate gear, there's endless quests and the story lore is quite engrossing. I am completely surprised by this game. I expected more of the same console-games-applied-to-PCs as an afterthought.

Couple that with three other adventurers that you can mix and match as you discover new ones, who constantly add to the storyline with occasional dialogue with each other, and who help you as you quest, and well, this game is a delightful surprise for me. I'd highly recommend buying it. Best solo-player game I've played in ages.

I am going back and playing through Dragon age 2 and plan to go through Inquisition one more time after that. Expand

This is a massive feat of design and engineering Bioware has continued with it's RPG dominating element for adventure games. Gameplay and combat work with the emphasis on magic and trickery/tactics rather than straight forward hack and slash. In the past from the days of BG I have always preferred a warrior type role. However having played this game three times, I have to now say that I got more fun out of playing a mage or a rogue than a straightforward tank type character which I found a little tedious in single player. "Go Bash something" has limited appeal for me in this games combat.

The other issue is that with average game length of around 150 hours this game with all it's areas (open worlds?) is exhausting and presents endurance challenges (that is if you want to do everything outside the core quest) that are excessive in their demand. Also unlike DAO warriors and rogues do not have the flexibility to weapon switch in combat between melee and ranged attacks which I found a little irritating

Overall still a very rewarding experience provided you can stay the distance and interact with everyone but not, despite the huge effort put into this, as fulfilling, as DAO.

Y'know I didn't really want to kill the dragons as they were gorgeous, but I needed both the XP and the goodies so one does what one has to

I didn’t want to write a review until I finished it, and now I can safely say that it has been a while since I have enjoyed a game as much as I have DA:I. I even dropped WoW but for raid nights until I was done with it. While it’s not perfect, it’s as close as it got for me in years.

    Pros:
    1. For somebody who really focuses on the story quality before anything else in games (the graphics can be crappy, combat awful, but if the story is good, I am in) I was not disappointed. It is not on the level of Dragon Age: Origins, but with all the companion quests, romance and main quest story lines, the game still had me from first to last moment.
    2. All the familiar faces from the previous games, and the fact that you can talk about your characters, makes my continuity loving heart happy.
    3. Great companions with distinct personalities. Some are better than others, mind you, but I didn’t feel disconnected from them, which is an improvement. (I do like Sera, but they needed to make her less of a caricature; she would have been a much better character if they toned her down just a bit.)
    4. Huge open world where you can move nearly anywhere you want. I mean it, huge! Now, let it be stated I am not a fan of sandbox games, so sometimes it seems too much, but the necessary number of side quests needed to grab enough power for the main quest line kept me entertained, for the most part. This might be an issue on replays, though. (Also, you can jump! Okay, I might be a bit too excited about that, but that was one of my pet peeves in Bioware games.)
    5. The diversity. Bioware was always an inclusive game, and they keep on that path, to my immense joy. Seeing a world not populated by strictly white CIS straight men and eye-candy woman is mildly put refreshing in gaming environments.
    6. Josephine. Nuff’ said.
    Cons:
    1. Controls leave a lot to be desired. When I click with my left mouse button, I want to initiate an auto attack on my enemy and move to them, not start flailing my sward in the air 10 meters away from the mob. They did implement an auto attack button in a patch, but that is still not even close to the simplicity of left mouse click.
    2. Crafting is not intuitive at all. Honestly, it’s a mess I mostly left unused but for when strictly necessary. They really need to work on this.
    3. A lot of side content leaves a lot of silent questing. While I know they can’t make 200 hours’ worth of party banter, that is still one of my favorite elements of their games, and for this much content more was required to fill the empty space.
    All in all, highly recommended.

The hate for this game is unwarranted. Most of the haters probably haven't even played the game and are just butthurt trolls that cant accept the fact that an RPG gets higher ratings than their precious COD or battlefield.

I am not really a critic but I guess I'll say what I was here for.
This game is only a 9/10 because of its immersive storyline. The storyline is hilarious and very good. It gives me a reason to look forward to playing the game. The other reason as to why it got a 9 is because it kind of felt like a point and click game, which is great and all but the game seemed like it should be a point

After an opportunity to snag the game at a good price arose I snatched it up first chance I got. To begin with, the character customization is decent, some races have limiting factors such as the elves must have tattoos and you cannot change the body shapes also there is not much diversity in the skins and they don’t seem to be in order as young to old skins so that made it quite confusing as well. The graphics are amazing right off the start, the story was compelling and kept me interested as it taught you to explore the controls. I’m more of a casual gamer so I didn’t delve much into the tactical camera, if at all, and the camera was a bit difficult to get around with at first but I managed to become used to it after a while.

It followed your basic RPG template with main missions and side missions. At times I found the side missions repetitive as most where to grind either money or experience, but the main story quests where extremely fun and I looked forward to those the most. The companions where varied and each offered different abilities that you could pick and choose to best suit your team. Some lacked compelling storylines and others where a bit cringe worthy in their actions, but somehow it added to their personalities, or lack of. The crafting and upgrade system was a bit awkward but the amount of other content the game included made up for those flaws. Things like the war table missions, judgment and the sky hold customization added to the tons of content this game has to offer. Overall I really enjoyed playing this game despite its imperfections and look forward to whatever else this franchise will bring in the future.
