I love love love love love this game ! Yee Haw :D ! I ordinarily don't give games a 10 because it's usally too extreme, just as most Zero scores are - but in this case, the 10 is absolutely deserved. I'd give it a 100 if I could lol.

For those of you who are maybe a bit afraid to play this version of DOOM because you think you have to be on the run ALL the time and the game is totally hectic and insane - it isn't always like that - you do have times to explore and think about what to do next, etc. Things come in waves and after you clear an area, the baddies there are gone.

But there are times (a lot) when the only way to survive and get the job done is to get running and shotting real fast ha ha! Run & gun, baby, Run & Gun!! They ratchet up the pressure kinda slowly at first in the beginning of the game, so just jump in and I'm sure you'll get into the swing of things pretty fast and you will soon agree this is one of the best games you ever played. Also, if you loved older DOOM games, you'll maybe find some incredible nostalgic secret stuff. So what are you waiting for? There's a Demon with your name on it just dying to meet ya :D !!

The sets, the enemies, the whole set up is an incredible blast.

Doom is a great example how to revitalize a franchise and bring it up to speed, keeping it a fun and enjoyable game. Worth a play-through... or a couple. Great fun game.

Best singleplayer shooter or 2016, a perfect mix of story and gameplay for Doom if you ask me. Don't bother with multiplayer though, it is alright but not what Doom 2016 is worth buying for.

Love it... I enjoyed DOOM 3. But it wasn't DOOM. It was survival horror. While the original Doom had a groundbreaking engine for it's time, it was undeniably crude and simple. It was wonderful. However, it left a lot to your imagination "despite that the US congress at the time didn't think so... ;)" compared with what we see today When I played Doom for the first time back in 1993, this new DOOM is the game I saw in my head.

I'd like to see more of a story. However, it's pretty clear from the start that this was debated. I think ID had to make a lot of hard decisions in an attempt to satisfy their fan base. Somehow they managed to get through this and produce a great game that pays careful homage to a classic while still providing surprising gameplay depth. Despite that at it 's core, it's still an old-school, run and gun shooter.

Can we have a Simpsons mod please? Just sayin...

Get it, enjoy it, throw those hard working developers some deserved praise. Great job ID, thank you!

DOOM is about putting the headphones on and cranking the volume up and pushing the big red button in the middle of the room that unleashes the 1000mph psychotic demon onslaught and smashes your face in. You move. You dodge. You aim. You shoot. You do not think. You do not stop. You just kill, kill, kill, kill, kill. And then the room falls silent, and you snap out of it clutching a chainsaw and covered in blood. Doom is about flipping the table on the most terrifying lucid savage nightmare conceivable with shotguns and adrenaline.

I played the original Doom when it came out. I'm in technology and I'm a developer. The creativity and finesse this game was developed with are staggering. I don't really typically like FPSes or games like this. I've evolved to simulations and serious games. I have to say though.. this game is JUST FUN! Some aspects (like finding all the hidden areas) are seriously challenging. The notes about certain technologies and weapons are very creative. The levels are not ment to hand anything to anyone.. just like the original Doom. I am in no way disappointed with my purchase. I plan to go through the campaign again in the hardest setting.. God help me.

If you never played the early id Software shooters like Wolfenstein or Doom you will probably find this concept refreshing. Technically the game reaches an extreme level of perfection in graphics and sound. The id Tech engine had really a lot of trouble with graphic card drivers in Rage and the new Wolfenstein. The single player has almost all of the elements that made the original Doom games great, while adding a ton more content and loads of variety.

What makes this game incredible is just how fast and intense it is. There is nothing I can think of on the market that has as much pure fun factor as this game. It's challenging, it's full of secrets and upgrades, and each level has a ton of replayablity because of it. The upgrade system for your suit and weapons is extremely intutive and lets you play the game in many different ways.

If you're the type of person that's looking for a challenge, try Ultra Nightmare mode, no check points what so ever, even for a Doom vet like me this might be impossibly hard (in a good way).

The game also runs brilliantly on my system, even without SLI support at launch (only negative I can think of). I'm getting silky smooth 60 fps @ 2560x1440, and the game looks incredible. Not only that but they gave the PC users a bunch of customizations that we've all been asking for, something that I greatly appreciate.

As for the multiplayer, the default MP is pretty fun but extremely casual. What I consider to be the actual MP experience comes via SnapMap. Although it's limited to only 4 players as of writing this, the potential to make games for almost any type of person will be nearly endless. Want demon runes and cards off? No problem. Want classic Doom style maps? No problem. Want gun pick ups instead of load outs? No problem! Want co-op missions or single player like experiences? No problem! Even if you don't like the default MP you'll easily get your moneys worth out of SnapMap.

Especially with the latest patch supporting the Vulkan API, I can run it on max (as far as it'll let me push it with my limited VRAM, ultra everything basically) at 1080p and it never drops below 60fps - hovers around 90-110 for the most part.

Surprising, given its old school nature. Let's start with the campaign. There's a perfect mixture of intense combat encounters against widely varied enemies and exploration in search of secrets that power you up even further. Weapons are varied and each and every one I've come across is satisfying to use, and executions for health and ammo provide an interesting way to keep encounters fast and brutal while staying on top of things. The soundtrack is just as brutal and visceral as the rest of the game, though some loops can get a tad repetitive in some places. The story is basic and rather token, but honestly this game isn't about the story. There are plenty of The Last of Us' and Uncharteds and Mass Effects and, you know, books and movies. Doom really speaks to me for being so unapologetically raw and primal. It's a game that lets me rush in and shoot demons with the simple context "They're evil and bad, rip their flesh from their bones before they do that to you."

Next, the multiplayer. Now, I haven't actually played the multiplayer yet, largely because it looks like they forgot what made the campaign unique and exciting and decided "Hey, let's make it like every other shooter ever except with pickups instead of regenerating health!" It doesn't really look like something I'd enjoy to begin with, but it's only one of three parts of the game, so it's not like I have to play it to experience the game.

Finally, SnapMap. It's by far the best content creation tool I've ever had the pleasure of using. It's simple to use, it's amazingly powerful, and I frequently find myself getting lost in community-made maps thinking that it was some kind of official DLC. Well, for the good ones, at least, of which there are a pleasant number of. This one, simple yet infinitely complex tool could possibly have me hooked for years to come, playing co-op with friends and creating my own, intricate, scripted gauntlets.

The sound design, art direction, and atmosphere all mesh flawlessly. Textures are disappointingly low-res, but visuals overall , while not groundbreaking by longshot, look well enough that they make for convincing scenery. So long as you don't stop to stare at things from a couple feet away.

Overall, there's nothing more I could have asked out of a Doom game. No, it's not an intellectual journey or hand-holding storyteller; there are literally thousands of games made with that in mind already. It's a pure, raw, adrenaline-pumping romp through Hell and its denizens and I love it.

What a surprise: Of course the graphic is great, thats tradition.
But the gameplay has a lot of good ideas and it is not just a shooter. On the one side you need to evolve your weapons, armor and attributes. On the other side you need to read the map, where to find hidden paths, this is much better than without any hints/maps. So there is not only action, but also parts to think and quiet

On the other side you need to read the map, where to find hidden paths, this is much better than without any hints/maps. So there is not only action, but also parts to think and quiet parts.
The music is great and fits perfectly to the speed of the game: if there is no action -> not much music.
Also I like the codex, where you can read the background of the story, the weapons and enemies.

Hmm, where to begin. I guess I'll start by saying that thoroughly enjoyed this game and it left me wanting more (mission accomplished development team!)

It's hard to pick what I liked the most in this game because there are so many great things to choose from, but I'll throw a few out there in no particular order

Weapons: I found every single weapon to be quite satisfying, with the 2 upgrade trees giving you very different gameplay options and the achievements required to unlock the upgrade mastery just made me play in some pretty ridiculous but fun ways in order to rack up those points quick. Though there are a couple I want to highlight.

The chainsaw - I love the redesign of the chain saw. Limited fuel forces you to think before you use it and investing in ammo upgrades is oh so very rewarding as you get to 1 shot Barons of Hell. I think you need 4 or 5 fuel for a Baron, never really paid attention because I'm too busy yelling "Hell Yeah" ...

The BFG - I love the original BFG from Doom 1 & 2. So many games including games made by id have tried to "improve" on its design and left me feeling underwhelmed. So I was very happy to see its return in this new Doom. The fact that it had similar "limited ammo" but fast access like the chainsaw only made this weapon that much more fun for me. There is nothing like turning a horrible situation into pure win with 1 BFG blast.

The demons: All great stuff. Every demon is well thought out and has a few surprises up their sleeve. I really liked the redesign of the summoner and the cacodemon. I think I got 1 shotted by a cacodemon at least 3 times because I got too close trying to pull off one achievement or another and ended up getting bitten in half. The mancubi were pretty effective too, with good close range defenses. I still remember the first time I ran at one point blank with the double barreled gun only to get a face full of flamethrower 

The bosses: Yes there are bosses. No there aren’t any gimmicks you need to do to kill them. Just survive and shoot the hell out of them. Each fight was challenging and fun. Big thanks to the devs for the last boss. I was so hoping to see that baddie make a return in this Doom.

The combat: I loved it. Do yourself a favor and play the hardest difficulty you have access to. If you're not in a constant adrenaline rush from start to finish you're not playing a hard enough difficulty. Glory kills were particularly interesting because as the game progresses and fights get harder and harder, it becomes that much more risky to try and set up a glory kill instead of just blowing stuff up from a distance. But yet you quickly realize that you can't really survive without them either (since they reward health and some ammo), so it's a very cool risk vs. reward mechanic. The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that this game wouldn't be half as exciting without Glory kills as they force you to pull off some pretty reckless stunts and play the game in a more exciting way than just trying to snipe everything from a distance. One interesting side effect of this though is that I found I didn't really use the RPG as much. The railgun is way better at a distance, and the double shotgun much safer up close.

The story: Well, it's Doom so I wasn't holding my breath for a deep story, though I actually enjoyed all the story elements in Doom 3. This time things were a lot more toned down, a bit more reading to do. Not overly immersive but still well laid out to give you a good purpose to go forward. I do like the Doom Slayer twist however and am hoping to learn more about it in a future expansion. I know the devs were super careful not to overdo it with the story in order to stay true to the original Doom, but just look at Wolfenstein. I never cared much for the title and the only reason I bought the new one was because it came with a mysterious Doom beta key. And wow, what an amazing game it turned out to be. And by far the best part of the game was the story. Deep down inside I secretly hoped that something like that would make it to Doom, but I understand why it didn't.

The graphics/level design: More great stuff. The graphics are beautiful, the level designs are the most "vertical" I've seen in any game so far. Towards the later part of the game I just loved some of the levels where you have a 3—4 story level and a swarm of enemies coming at you and the only way to stay alive is to utilize all levels and constantly stay on the move. I can't think of any other recent game where I've done so much running around and pulling off so many ridiculous stunts

All in all I give this game a 9.5. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is because I would selfishly like a bit more story to it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think its absolutely amazing so far, probably the most fun i've had playing a single player campaign game since Doom3 which i recently completed and FC3... Game play wise its really fast paced, in saying that you can slow the action down by being selective as to your movements, e.g. taking things out from a far - which is a little difficult with the initial pistol and laterly the shotty. There's a lot of action, even with the medium difficulty setting 'hurt me plenty'. The game Its linear, as you'd expect but there's more hidden stuff and mini missions within the main missions. Theres a whole host of power ups for the suit and now for the guns - just received a explosive shell upgrade to my shotgun. The pistol is pretty much ineffective - good for getting the possessed to a stunned state so you can use the melee and the trusty shotty is quick loading and carrys 20 shells max meaning you're often on the look out for more ammo. The melee strikes have little cut scenes ani's as you've probably seen in the videos leading up to teh release - you get more power ups for doing such melee attacks and the variation of how they're pulled of hasnt gotten old, yet.. So far i've come across two new types of enemy character - the possessed -which are as you'd expect the staff from UAC wondering around like zombies from dayz and these engineer type people who've got welding bottles stuck in them, which blow up nicely.... Its graphically stunning, i knew id was great at optimizing games, in fact it's the primary reason Doom was so successful and able to played by so many people, so it's in their blood. Good to see that part is still around. I never expected to play this game so well though on my hardware. With everything cranked up @ 2560x1440 @ ultra and full AA im getting about 50-62 fps on my 980ti, so its coping... I'm finding it quite hard going on the eyes at the moment, the amount of different light sources and brightness in the game generally is in stark contrast to D3, but this is a differently themed animal so far... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This looks and feels like a real successor to the 23-year-old Doom. Forget Doom 3 and its rewriting the rule book, this game goes back to basics and does it in style.

The core gameplay is exactly the same as it was in the original - large, rambling maps chopped up into different areas, with coloured keycards and switches (along with "rip the arm off some guy" type updates - essentially, following the Doom Bible from 1992!)

All the weapons you'd expect are there and although there are all sorts of extra customisation options you don't have to use them; you can use number buttons to select the weapons (5 is still the rocket launcher, just as it was in the original) and unlike the multiplayer mode you can carry several at once.

The action is fast, it's furious and as gory as ever (gibbing enemies never looked so good). There have been some mechanic changes (as in the chainsaw uses fuel and grants ammo when you chainsaw a monster to death), but the overall look and feel is unmistakeably Doom.

As someone who played the original and Doom 2 to death as a teenager, words can't explain how delighted I am to see the game brought bang up-to-date. As an added bonus, after pulling a certain lever I found a direct passageway back to a (somewhat clunky) chunk of the original Doom... complete with bitmap pickup icons and the original soundtrack, as played on a decent MIDI card. Yes, the textures were wonky, there were no lighting effects (it's darned hard to do with modern engines, the Doom engine was much simpler) but wow, it was nice to see. It also carries on the tradition from Doom 2, which had a Wolfenstein 3D level in it...

The deathmatch side of things is expanded greatly from the beta and the matchmaking system is fair - if you get pummelled and everyone's up for another match, it'll swap players around to make things more equal. It feels quite cut-down compared to the single-player mode, what with the loadouts and all, but it's not a bad game - feels more like Quake 3 than the original Doom, however.

I'd say this is a really, really good single-player shooter - it's a true sequel to one of the best-loved PC games of all time. The deathmatch side of things isn't quite as good, IMO, but I bought this game for the single-player game. Several hours in, I'm not disappointed.

DOOM is fantastic and immensely satisfying. It sets aside sniping, cover, and all the other FPS conventions of the last decade, and brings back the hardcore DOOM experience at an astonishing level of polish. The single-player campaign is the most fun I've had playing a game in years. I can't recommend the single-player campaign highly enough.

It goes without saying, one should take these kinds of heavily biased neg reviews with a grain of salt.

No matter what the devs did with this Doom the people/kids are always going to complain and complain and complain. They seem to completely forget (or have never played) what the classic doom was all about. A gritty fast action shooter.

IMO this is a great version of a classic. We'll never again achieve the greatness of the original in a remake, because it was the original; just like we'll never see another CoD as great as MW. You want to chase the feeling of the old classic? Then play the old classic....it's old and horrible to look at but the appeal lies in the nostalgia of 20+ years ago. Doom has never been about deep story. Its a hardcore shooter. Period. THIS IS DOOM for our modern age. Do yourself a big favour and try it out. Heck even wait for a sale if you're unsure as either way its a great revamped classic and killer shooter that's definitely worth playing. I loved Doom 3 and this new Doom is no exception. Loving it.

DOOM's fantastic environments all look and play beautifully smooth even on my aging system.

Once an area is cleared, you stock up on health and ammo and move on to the next.

It's not quite the same, melee is the primary means of healing as it results in health drops. You do need to shoot most enemies to weaken them before you can do this. Traversal is also a bigger element here than it is in Sam.

It also takes elements of Brutal Doom and mixes them into the formula. It's quite gory and the kills are quite a spectacle.

The result is a fast and fun old school style shooter with Doom 3 style visuals that are newer and shinier. Single player alone is well worth the price of admission.

Plus there's a Little Big Planet style map editor system called Snap Map that will give plenty of replay once you tire of the campaign. Users can create both single and multiplayer maps, so regardless of your preference you'll have tons to do after you've escaped Hell in the campaign.

Haven't messed with the MP, but I've heard it's similar to Quake and UT. I'm not a MP guy and don't care much, the rest of the game is more than enough to satisfy me.

Doom is grand and doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. After Doom 3 fans asked for a throwback to classic FPS gameplay, and ID delivered exactly that.

The game is fast in bursts of demons. Then it slows down and let's you discover the map until you run into another demon nest. And every battle is unique with traversal of the environment in all dimensions. Enemies are really well designed. Each one has a different optimal approach for extermination. In each battle you find yourself constantly laying out tactics for which demons to hunt down first. And it happens so fast that you can't help but get a kick out of it! It's glorious!

This is all I wanted it to be and more. And oh my god, the chainsaw! Love that it's not just another weapong but actually has a tactical point. The game design impresses the **** out of me. Finally a game that is A GAME! You know, not just an on-rails interactive cut-scene. There's NONE of that. This is how you make a computer game.

This is also a crowd that has never watched the e3 demo, or any of the videos released prior to launch, they were just like "oh hey I remember that game it was really scary." and was shocked when they found out "hey this isn't scary, 0/10." Another common complaint is that the game is repetitive, which is complete bs. This game has a massive load of replay value, due to the 5 difficulty levels and the numerous upgrades and weapon mods available. I completed my first playthrough on ultra-violence (hard), and my second playthrough on nightmare (very hard), and I'm currently attempting ultra-nightmare (1 death and it's game over.) And this game is STILL extremely fun. I don't get how anybody could not have fun with this amazing piece of artwork. Now, another thing I commonly see (mainly on steam reviews, but on here as well,) are people who have played 10-30 minutes of the game, and then leave a 0/10 score and refund the game. To which I have to say, did you really even play the game? You can't even complete the first mission in 30 minutes, much less actually try the multiplayer, or snapmap. These are people who just want to hate on the game because they think it's cool to do so. Not actual Doom fans, just casuals. Second, this game is MADE for PC. There are so many graphics settings, and the game is so well optimized that I can run it on my laptop, which has a GTX 960m in it, which is a horrible horrible low grade chip, in 720p 60fps. On my main rig I play 1440p, 120 fps. Yeah, it's really, really well optimized, which is amazing considering how AWESOME this game's graphics are. So please, ignore the hate reviews and just try the game for yourself. If you're a fan of the originals, you'll have a blast! Expand

The campaign is beautifully designed, with appropriate difficulty progression and enough unlocks to keep things fresh throughout. Although some might feel it deviates too much from the original games by adding unlocks and upgrades, it makes the combat, in my opinion, so much more tailored to your personal style. I spent all my points on the rocket launcher and the double-barreled shotgun, but my roommate decided to spend the points he earned on the gauss cannon instead. It's fulfilling and each fight is tactical, letting you choose how to engage the enemy, when to use your special weapons and when to glory kill demons to quickly gain health to get back into the fight. The weapons are powerful and intense, and Id should be commended for making the campaign one of the best FPS experiences this year.
SnapMap's ok. I don't use it much other than to make stupid arenas where ludicrous amounts of demons spawn. I've heard complaints of limitations due to consoles but in all honesty you really need to be ambitious to push those limits.

Multiplayer is kinda dull. The weapons feel weak and there's no teamwork. The demon rune system is alright, but I've seen a good share of teams doing nothing but running solo against the demon only to get rekt. It's a bit too much like Halo, and that's a pity. It feels boring and it doesn't really commit to either fanbase of modern shooters and arena shooters. leaving you with a surprisingly generic experience. Also remove glory kill animations. In multiplayer you're as good as dead if you stand still in an animation. I really don't like the token system. Why should someone spawn with extra armor? I hope that doesn't come back. There's a lot of customization, but you'll need to unlock them. They range from different armor sets, colours, wear and tear levels and light schemes and emblems. Well done there except it's obvious some colours help you blend into the environment better.
EDIT post update 6.66 I feel the multiplayer is more balanced and fun, but due to the declining population of the game, I feel that this game should almost solely be judged on its campaign. Perhaps Quake Champions will fill the multiplayer old school shooter slot. who knows.

Graphically looks superb. The gun models look great and the environments are eye candy. A lor of praise for the team who made going to hell a sightseeing trip. A lot of pop in textures when loading and the draw distances aren't so great, but when everything works(which is most of the time) it looks great. I maintained a solid 60FPS and I can't wait to see how the Vulkan patch helps performance. I can't tell many differences switching from medium to high quality anyway, but the low graphics settings are pretty demanding themselves so be warned you'll need a decent rig to run 60 FPS.
EDIT: the vulkan patch didn't do much for me, tested on GTX 970 and 1080. AMD users may get a bigger performance boost.

Is there a story? Not really but I'm not here for one. Is there a tutorial? No not really. You start and off you go! there's hints and stuff but honestly it's great to see a game without a half-hour tutorial. Ending was mehhhhhhhhhhhhh but I wasn't really committed anyways. There's optional lore for those who want to read it.
The music is great. Mick Gordon really captured the tone and energy of the game. It feels aggressive, with rock and metal pounding during the intense gunfights. I hope the OST gets released. It is one of the best soundtracks this year.
What would I say needs improvement? I gave it a 10, but that's based off how much i enjoyed it. If i could pay just 40 USD and only get the campaign, there's not much I can really complain about. Fix the multiplayer and some of the weirder glitches here and there and it'd be fine.
Also the easter eggs are amazing. I'm still missing one mini doom-guy figurine but I'll keep looking.
EDIT I have found it now.

1080p/60fps - One thing I was worried about when Doom was shown off at E3 2015 was weather the game will still look and run good, After all we all remember what happen with games like Watch Dogs,Assassin Creed Unity and who can forget Alien Colonial Marines. After playing the game for the last couple of days I can finally say id software was true to there words. Not only does the game look good but it actually runs at 1080p at 60fps. Finally a game that runs at 1080p at 60fps that isn’t a remaster (not that there anything wrong with remasters games I just fell that there so much remakes out there that its being overused).

Solid campaign - One thing Doom is know for is it strong single player mode and that continues with 2016 version of Doom. The game will take you about 13 hours to complete however it might take you longer depending what difficulty you pick (good luck with Nightmare & Ultra-Nightmare your going to need the patients for that one) and how much time you are willing to find the hidden secrets in each level.

SnapMap Mode - Similar to last year Mario Maker on the WIIU (though not the same both games do have there similarities) SnapMap mode allow you to make your own level and upload it on the internet for others people to try. If your into that kind of stuff then give SnapMap a try.

    Cons

Ok Multiplayer & Season Pass- While the Multiplayer mode is fun (not to mention fast pace as well) its nothing really special. Most of mode are pretty much the same you get in other shooters games as well (like king of the hill and death match are 2 good example) and while there is a season pass for Doom. Its just for the multiplayer so unless multiplayer is your thing to me its not worth getting.

Weapon selection - While you can switch between the last 2 weapons you used (or opening up your weapon wheel selection) I find it odd that you can’t assigned your to the D-pad. I mean for a game that all about being fast pace and not being a cover base shooter you would think the developers would give you the option to assigned up to 4 weapons to the D-Pad that way you don’t have to open the weapon every single time.

Lack of Story - While there is a story in Doom (through data logs) I do (and I’m fully aware not everyone will agree with me on this) find it a bit disappointing that the story is put on the wayside. This is an issue I had with 2011 release of Rage. It had solid gameplay and a great universe to explore but I felt the story could have been fleshed out a bit more.

Not for COD & Halo fan - If your going into this game expecting this to play like COD or Halo then you’ll in for a whirlwind of disappointing. Doom is not like that. Doom is all about fighting Demons, finding secrets & hidden rooms, having to find health pack (you don’t have rechargeable health) and its one big selling point being gory and violent and fun. So if you are not of fan of any of that then Doom isn’t for you then.

Overall -For me Doom is a blast to play. While there are some things I don’t agree with (like the weapon wheel & lack of story) it doesn’t prevent me from enjoying it. Being that this is a reboot I do hope it does well so we can get a sequel though.

Ah it's finally here, Doom 2016.

I was as were probably many other people, sceptical of this iteration of the Doom franchise and as you'd expect the game is far from perfect (bethseda), that being said, what it does do is send you right back to what you used to love about the original doom and most of the sequels ever since, with some extra gore and glory (no pun intended) thrown in for good measure

The monsters are all there, they're quite intimidating to be honest (as they should be, this is Doom) they're varied and pop up through your game like bad guys turn up in any other FPS, most of them are really easy to beat but they do allow you to pull of some long distance headshots (first encounter in hell for example with the machine gun and scope headpop, really satisfying)

Playing through for the first time i've noticed a few things that I would like to change (sorry but it's true),

First being the pace of the game, it's extremely fast, which is fine if for a multiplayer but in the single campaign i felt like i was missing out on the beauty of the game because i was legging it through the game at break neck speed, for example when you get to hell for the first time, you begin to move forward and in around 6 seconds you're already away from the initial gates and moving through hell, I think the game would have been better suited to have the shift key as run rather than walk, it's set the wrong way with no way of reversing it

Other than the run key being off (for me at least) i found that the glory kills weren't varied enough, you find the same animation being repeated over and over, there are others depending on the angle and or if you're in the air but i'd have preferred some kind of hold system so hold left and melee for a headrip, right for a body split etc, seeing as you have to do these quite often to obtain health it would have been good to have more variance.

As it stands it's just based upon the angle that you are at when you press melee.

So with that out of the way, I have to say though beyond these couple of non deal breakers i can't fault doom, the baddies are great, the maps are huge and sprawling, the use of lighting and occulsion, bloom is some of the best i've ever seen, the audio is also spot on with whispers of monsters in the background being heard when something bad is about to happen, the map design is great and varied, great use of smoke and reflections, a lot of work has gone into this.

I haven't finished the campaign yet as it is a long one, but I think to truly enjoy the game it would be best played on the hardest difficulty, reason being is that it does deserve your time and it's supposed to be difficult, dropping a big badguy with nothing but the lazer pulse rifle is a bit naff so pumping up the difficulty will make it seem as it should.

As i said before it's not without issues but nothing a few alterations to the cfg file couldn't fix and some launch option alterations in steam, removing intro video, right click to continue between rounds and deaths, mouse smoothing etc, once all these are fixed the game is spot on and with my current rig it runs at just between 120 and 160fps which is completely acceptable considering how most play at 60fps and still seem happy, multiplayer runs at 200fps most of the time.

    i5 4670k
    16GB RAM
    R9 290 Tri-X sapphire 4GB

Settings were on Ultra for the most part with AA turned down to 2x or 4x, motion blur is set to low, the game runs pretty well considering how it looks and the sheer size of some of the levels.

Overall i think this is a great addition to the series and although some people may see this as a linear one track game, it really doesn't matter. It's a next gen Doom game that ticks all the boxes and should keep us happy for another what? 12 years ? : O

Lets hope it doesn't take that long : )

Re-creating Doom from 1993 is no easy task, but somehow they managed to pull it off. I remember playing Doom when i was a kid and how stunned i was by the universe that ID Software had created. Now im stunned again.
In the original Doom, I remember how the map design and general tone of the franchise left me with deep impressions as a young boy. The obscure and sometimes very bizarre design of the maps, filled with extreme gore and mangled humans parts (some of them still alive and wrickling..) twisted my mind as a kid like no other media could. I found it somehow.. fascinating, in a nasty, out-of-this-world kind of way. The mixture between science fiction, high-tech technology, paranormal events and a grim satanic atmosphere was just something extraordinary. This was pure originality, and it definitely pushed my boundaries back then.

The new Doom game however.. oh boy, where to start. I can honestly say, that this is the most intense game ive played in a long long time. The same obscure universe that ID Software had created decades ago is suddenly alive again on a entire new level. The weapons are very satisfying to use, with a lot of different choices to upgrade them throughout the game. This is something the old Doom never had, but i welcome these changes with all my heart!

What also really stands out is the sound design of the game. Its phenomenal. The weapon audio is very detailed and it brings the gunplay to life in the best way possible according to the Doom universe. The sound of the enemies is another plus, its just awesome! The way larger entities growl when they hunt your ass is just downright intense! (im looking at you, Barons of Hell!)
Not to forget the great work of the ambient sound throughout the maps, with each tune fitting each level with perfection and makes the atmosphere unforgettable. The soundtracks are powerful as hell, and it creates a badass mood when it kicks in. Especially in those moments, where you have to encounter large groups of hellspawn at once the music does a good job of boosting your lust for taking their ass down. Luckily the music also stays original to its predecessor, enhanced with a more modern take to suit the overall facelift of the game. Its gritty, heavy and addictive.

The map design is very impressive as well. The game is a throwback to oldschool FPS mechanics, but its not a linear corridor shooter by all means. It IS linear, but mostly the areas are quite big and comes with great variation. The maps also occasionally forces you to stop and think for a moment before you progress any further, acting as mini puzzles so to speak. The areas are filled with secrets and hidden places that you can go explore, which is something i strongly recommend!

The excessive use of Gore has always fueled the spirit of the Doom franchise, and the 2016 version is no different. You will find yourself in rooms filled with guts on the floor, skinned humans, lungs and rib cages hanging from the ceiling in a bloody mess you can't fully identify. This is Doom for me, the uncensored use of human mutilation to create the nasty, obscure and incredibly evil setting that Doom is all about. I strongly encourage people to explore the maps design, don't rush through it all because you will really miss out some of the atmosphere the game has to offer. The levels set in Hell are just extremely bizarre and the artstyle is really out of this world. Just like Doom from 1993.

The graphics are insanely good, a clean 10/10 right there. Considering the quite diverse universe and setting that Doom has, it really becomes something special when you mix it with todays technology. The environments are crafted with passion for the original artstyle that Doom presented to us in 1993 and its a joy to behold!

The gameplay is fast and fluid, just like the original game. Stand still, and prepare to get ripped to shreds. With the increased verticality in the map design, enemies are now more mobile, and so are you. This makes up for a very solid gameplay experience with projectile-dodging moves and on the fly tactics. Its hectic, fast, bloody good fun!

I can't recommend this game enough. Its a wonder in both terms of originality, craftsmanship and passion for the franchise. I know some of you will disagree, but i don't think Doom fans could ever hope for a better reboot than this.

    See you in Hell.

It's been a long time until any FPS game was so impressive. When you play it, you not just want to finish the game, you want to open all secrets, get all upgrades, try it on harder difficulty. And play it again and again, because it's very enjoyable to kill in DOOM.
Developers have done a tremendous work. Optimization is on the high level. Sound is amazing, graphic and atmosphere the same.
Multiplayer is good, but some details can de improved.
With all of that, you also get SnapMap when you can create and publish your own content and enjoy content of other players.
This is true masterpiece, must have for all who loves brutal FPS games etc.
Best game i have played for the last 5 years.

BOOM SMASH DIEEEEE DEMONS DIEEEEEEE WHILE I LISTEN TO THIS AWESOME MUSIC. That is pretty much Doom in a nutshell. Its does justice to its heritage, its actually many gamer´s wet dream, you know, when people say just remake this old game with new graphics and a few tweaks which EXACTLY what happened here. Now if you excuse me I have a DATE WITH SATAN AND MY TRUSTY CHAINSAW ARRRRGHHHH

I like that it is so fast paced and smooth. I am huge fun of Alien: Isolation, Dead Space and Doom, I have been loving them for many years but they are so slow. I love the jumping. I love all music, weapons, enemies, places and robot. I like that enemies comes very close. Easy to shoot and more scarier. I don't like shooting enemies that are very far. It feels like I am

This is the only game I like. Why can't they make games like this more.
What I love about this type of video games is I can control the character. I can go many horror places.I can make my own story. This is something that can't be done in movies. Something that can't enjoy in movies.

One concern though. This game might make some people very violent.
Makes some people want to or like violence.

No one wants PS4 or xbox one. They wanted it after they found a game they really like.

The loadouts are honestly not a big deal when you get used to them. and are present in Quake Live. The demons do take a bit of getting used to, and it's worth adding that they are not present in every multiplayer mode.

This is effectively a perfect translation of the original Doom games into a 2016 fps game. The mechanics favor offense and constant movement, the gunplay is addictive and when you add the unbelievably well designed levels, the secrets and the sheer amount of fun, you have an amazing and unique fps.

If you want a story go read a book... if you want to rip a demon's horn off and beat him

This game did not innovate anything, instead it seemed to have gone back to the roots. It's funny how much that actually makes Doom stand out from all the other current gen shooters, who all seem to follow the same trends.

It really paid off as, this Doom is the most fun shooter I have played in many, many years.

Very smart move on ID's part by letting actual gamers be the critics rather than all these sellouts on professional sites. Anyway, this is how a FPS game should be done, perfected to every detail. Graphics, music, mechanics are great. They've done fantastic job. One of the best games 2016 and a pleasant surprise. ID knew what it was doing with this game.

As someone who played the original on the school PCs via floppy disks in 1993, and the subsequent sequel in the same decade, then building a new PC for Doom 3 in 2005, I can say that this Doom is everything I wanted and was hoping the new 2016 Doom would be. This game made me feel like I was playing Doom all those years ago, so hats off to the devs on this game. And it looks especially amazing in 4K. People who complain that there is more jumping than shooting propably played at some low difficulty settings so everything just died and there was nothing else to do beside jumping. Obviously finding all secrets takes some time and sometimes requires Super Mario skills, but those are secrets! You can live without them.

Repetition. Yes, because old Dooms werent repetetive. I think some people forget (or simply are too young) to know that feel of old Dooms - You were flooded with hordes of enemies and worrying about this being repetetive was the last on the long list of things to worry about. It's DOOM. Go find definition of that word.

And some people actualy said that sound is bad? Realy? Music and all those gore sounds are best part of this game. Graphics are also ok.

Gameplay - is amazing. Enemies are aggressive, dangerous (on Nightmare) and will do absolutely anything to kill player. It feels amazing. No enemy will wait for player to grab some health or turn around. They will just smash You to pieces. Weapons are very strong part of this game. They are fun to use, even simple shotgun is useful late in the game and with mods they can be turned into weapons of mass destruction. Death (both players and enemies) are bloody, full of gore and simply awesome - just like in old Dooms.

Realy, I just finished it and I can't realy say bad thing about this game. It was simply what I wanted it to be. They didn't tried to make it something that Doom isn't - RPG game, tactical shooter etc. They just made... Doom.

Fast-paced action, loads of guns, a Hell of a lot of demons, over-the-top blood and gore, and epic metal soundtracks that get you pumped and ready to Rip And Tear...
If this isn't DOOM, I don't know what is.
Don't buy this for the multiplayer, it's nothing to write home about. The single player and snap-map modes are where it's at and where I've spent almost all of my 50+ hours playing

I actually really like the weapons, despite some of the minor gripes I've read on here about them not being "bass-y" enough. The alternate fire is fun, and I love the ease of being able to switch in between 'em o the fly. The variety is spot-on, and plays a strategy on how you tackle the field of monsters. The weapon unlocks, coupled with the challenges, keep me cycling through my arsenal in order to try new things--it also encourages you to perceive each battle with a different strategy.

The real show-stealer, however, is the crafty level design; coupled with the themes and atmosphere. You truly feel you're on Mars/Hell . It's incredible. I find myself in awe of the draw distance, looking at the terrain and action in the far background.

I rented my copy via recd box, but this game warrants a purchase, no questions asked. I would've bought but I don't have the $ right now...
