    * Platform jumping in the game as a mechanic is absolutely awful - it's good during battles, but not for traversal moving from building to building, etc. Not sure why I keep seeing developers implement this crap when it's overwhelmingly disliked by gamers.
    * Somewhat unforgiving combat which is a little irritating at times.
    * Bethesda recently added another layer of Denuvo that is breaking the game for lots of folks. As a result I have to update my review to NOT RECOMMENDED.

    Other: Overall it was a fun game that I will likely play again in the future.

    Final Rating: 1 / 10 - NOT RECOMMENDED due to the intrusive ROOTKIT DRM Bethesda just recently added to the game.

    I hate this game. I feel like this game is fanboyed a lot because of Doom 2016 was such a great game. Doom 2016 was good in fact I'd say best game on the new systems but this game is trash (not because I'm not good or died just now (fanboy kids excuse to defend games that are trash) but because I have made it almost to the end of the game and I paid $90 for this trash and ofc can't returnI hate this game. It was perfect the way it was (Why change what is not broken). Making games to hard for ppl makes ppl not buy the next one because it limits ppl that have jobs and don't have time to put into these games. I won't be buying the next game and I'm about done buying games all together if this trend don't end. Dif not buying new systems either. If you esport tryhards wants a game they need to make their own ******* games and systems. Games are not careers for the majority of gamers. If you want games that is for ppl with careers than make your own ******* systems to play on. Sorry for the rant I'm just so tired of games being made for these no lifes. Casual gamers can't even get a single player game anymore because it's got to be so balanced and difficult for these COD, Fortnight, and League of legend multiplayer fanboys to have fun playing a dif game for once. One last thing I want to mention is jumping. Why is there so much jumping in this game like it's a platformer. This is Doom I want to shoot and run and that's it. If I wanted to play mario or halo I would buy those games. This is why games as a whole has lost so much from it's fanbase and most ppl has stopped playing games. Stop catering to these loser YouTubers and Esporters and make games for your fans. Your wasting money paying them to play it and say good things about it because ppl are figuring it out.     Very nice, fast and smooth gameplay, just the way it should be. However I don't like the platforming, pretty sure no one asked for that. And what is the deal with the ammo? Why do I have to use the chainsaw on monsters to get ammo? This makes no sense. Also why can't he carry more ammo when he can carry lots of guns plus a chainsaw, but then only a handful of shotgun shells? This isVery nice, fast and smooth gameplay, just the way it should be.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DOOM 2016 was such a **** blast to play. It is the only game you always keep installed because sometimes you just feel an urge to play it. Honestly this urge is still there with this game for me but it is always immediately killed once i play DOOM Eternal again. I think that they had to implement cheat codes kinda speaks for itself.

    I. The story is **** boring because it is like every other story in every other simple game. I already hated that immediately in the first cut-scene you saw doom slayers face. Why? And it looks so stereotypical and boring too. Also he talks like a retard in the flashback scenes. It sounds so dumb it made the words "rip and tear" sound retarded. I loved how in DOOM Doom slayer was portrayed like being a force of nature that just has to exist and only does so to slay demons, all of them. He had no face, no name, no palpable past or origin he just exists like the wind the sun or a natural disaster. He was to be seen as the accumulated hatred and rage off all existence. Now that really great portrait is destroyed with doom eternal. He is now some guy found by the night sentinels, trained by them and powerful because of a strange ritual performed on him. Just like every other guy with special powers. Just boring. Even in doom eternal there were these audio-logs of this researcher women talking. She said similar things the slayer being a force of nature and like religiously revered him in the last audio-log. That was awesome i do not know why they did not choose this approach of the story line. In general the story was just too much for one game in my opinion. Everything needed to be explained in these annoying codex entries. Ever heard of the axiom "show dont tell"? it was so boring to read all that. The story you read was not that bad though but only reading these repetitive entries was just a chore. In general the story is just as generic and repetitive as can be.

    II. I hate the new Praetor suit design it looks like a bloated up carcass of the old awesome looking praetor suit, which i loved and immediately wore without exception after acquiring it in the fortress of doom. I do not want the dumb looking bare biceps. Also the fugly face shining through the visor of the helmet all the time looked hilarious and broke again the perception of the doom slayer as non human. III. Some of the weapon designs in Doom eternal look like crap especially in comparison to Doom 2016. That also goes for the Demon designs. The revenant for example had such a creepy awesome looking blank stare in 2016 now he looks like a power ranger with his shiny armor and fluorescent eyes. I do not like the new designs where they tried to remodel the old sprites. It doesnt fit and looks strange. Every time i see a tyrant it just looks so strangely out of place because of this dumb looking same old design they chose. The cyber demon from 2016 looked so menacing and so much more brutal in comparison. Sometimes you just got to let go of the old and kill it if need be. Also the soldiers with green **** hair and red eyes look like the joker but not like a demon in doom. Weapon design wise the grenade launcher design looks just awful. It looks like a plastic toy that you can win on a flea market. The skulls on it an the chains and all that paired with the silver looks like some cheap plastic toy. The skull on the ballista is also irritating. Doom slayer does not need skulls on his equipment like a skull tatooed retard he just kills with awesome looking industrial weaponry.

    IV. During fights the game just screams at you what you need to do and if you dont **** obey and play like they want you to you die. Amazing! That is such advancement in FPS games. So **** dumb. True intelligence for me is if i decide of my own wit what to do in a certain situation but the game just tells you everything you need to do to win. And that is not creative fun or challenging for your intelligence. Tactics for me are when i decide a way to tackle a situation and that requires intelligence. Not waiting for cooldowns or dashing all the time like crazy, refilling your meager ammo reserves and so on. You are just reacting to the game the game does not react to you, and what is that supposed to be? I think you could train a monkey to react correctly when playing this game. When you play Doom Eternal you dont feel like a Human you feel like a machine that has to react in smithereens of milliseconds to do **** otherwise you die. Creative director Hugo martin says exactly what is **** about the game thinking it is something great. He calls this ****ty way of obeying to the game the fun zone and they desperately try to hold you in that fun zone with their mechanics and if you do not obey they kill you...WTF! Fun is when i am free! When i can decide of my own accord how to go out and play a game! This is just a prison of a game...

What's happening on screen rarely lives up to the whirring guitar distortion and drums coming from the speakers. Out of the mindless but oddly satisfying killing there is no reason to keep going. There is a point where you feel you may as well be in an on-rails shooter or a quick-time event cut-scene, where you just want the game to ease off a little and give you back control - or at lest some semblance of it. Moreover the environments seem still, sterile and stale as do the enemies, as if they are plastic figurines as opposed to being real bloody demons from hell. So if you like killing for killings sake, over and over and over, Doom Eternal might be your kind of game, but if you are looking for a meatier (pun intended) experience look elsewhere. Expand

    A game that is perfect in so many ways, but is ruined by bad design decisions. What ID software did with the graphics is amazing. The fact that it all looks so good and runs so well on moderate hardware is mind-boggling. The feel of the weapons, the way enemies disintegrate when you shoot them ... this game really had the potential to be a very good game. But most of the time when i playA game that is perfect in so many ways, but is ruined by bad design decisions. What ID software did with the graphics is amazing. Doom Eternal could have been a much better game than Doom 2016 if they just stuck to the formula. In the end ... its supposed to be Doom.     I just can't. There is so much platforming, and even Mario style spinning fireball bars and climbing around on walls/fences, it doesn't feel like a proper shooter. The repetitive melee quick time events are in your face, over the top, and dull after the 50th time.
    I want to shoot things in a shooter with enough ammo to keep shooting things.

    Much harder difficulty level than any Doom or Id Software game than I can ever recall before, going back to January 1993 when I first played Wolfenstein 3D. Even on the easiest difficulty ("I'm Too Young To Die") it's a rather difficult game in places. How the hell anyone could be masochistic enough to play on the highest difficulty ("Ultra-Nightmare") is beyond me.

    A significant amount of jumping puzzles (some of which are also time limited) make the game extremely frustrating to play as you have to do some sequences many times if you can't coordinate multiple jump and dash moves and there's no manual or quick save option to help you get through this.

    This is Super Mario Doom and I've stopped playing it as it's just not fun. I've been a gamer for nearly 30 years and I'd struggle to think of a game that was as disappointing as this one.

    The gameplay is completely brain dead.
    You as much as the game just spams enemies at you, is as much as you just spam fire at them.
    The only skill you need is to walk in circles a bit, and press the chainsaw button when you need ammo, which runs out every 10 seconds.

    The gameplay is like meditation, your mind will wander anywhere else, but you will not be in this world, thinking about what is going on in it.

    And then the graphics ....
    what a disappointment.

    Sure - I made the mistake of playing this after Half Life: Alyx.
    But man ... it all looks so bad. The level of detail, the effects, the lighting ...
    it is all designed with the philosophy of a racing game,
    as in "They player is just going to rush by it, so no reason to put any work into what they will not look at."

    Even if your PC is a potato, you will have no problem to set every setting to Ultra Nightmare, and still get a framerate above 100fps at 1440p resolution.

    I really hope that this is the end of the current Doom reboot series, and that they will go back to the ambition and immersion that was put into Doom 3.

    Too much is simply going on in this game. Hard to keep track of all the enemy movements and etc. The level design is totally surrealistic, liked more much the art approach/design from 2016 version.

    I had mixed feelings playing throughout the game. I finally beat it last night and I could not wait to get this over with. The last two hours of this game were some of the most boring, repetitive and tedious things I have ever had to do. This game is like playing Overwatch but in single player. It's an awful feeling when a game does that, DIUM E is not the only one, but it really did it for me almost every time. Towards the last hours, even Overwatch seemed in slow motion compared to this, and that is not a good thing.

    Then there is the dreaded Marauder. This thing is a pain to deal with. It seems quite unfair to deal with something so frustrating. There is hard, and then there is tedious, this here is the latter. I started the game on Nightmare and was ready to quit within the first hour. I had just finished DOOM 2016 on nightmare so I figured I'd do the same on this one. I got as far the first boss on insane and could not do it. I turned on the sentinel armor and then switched to Ultra Violence right after that. The last boss is one of the worst things I have ever seen. Like most bosses in games, they usually have baddies to help them. I think we all hate when you fight a boss in any game and it isn't a 1v1 between you and the boss. As soon as you see enemies spawning in the room with you, you know it's going to get difficult. Well in this game you are fighting the boss and the insanely difficult latter mobs. You have to engage them all, because if you don't, you're going to die quickly. You need them for health, ammo and armor. You can't just ignore them as you would in many other games.

    My brain is tired from playing a game! I wish I had not submitted my poor noodle to this madness. I think that someone at 'id' got too trigger happy with making it insanely difficult. Then they realized what a horrible mess they had created. The biggest evidence for this is that the game allows you to cheat in any boss fight by using sentinel armor. Even games like Sekiro don't allow such nonsense. Clearly something went horrendously wrong with this game. Maybe it's the asinine difficulty, maybe it's that your brain gets worked to insane degrees, maybe it's that the game forces you to engage every single enemy, maybe it's that the game almost forces you to use every single bullet from every single gun.

    I really liked the multiplayer however, it's fresh and fun. Oh and one last thing, I wish they had not gone "cinematic" with the story line here. The demons no longer feel like demons at all, they're just stupid aliens now. I was hoping for something a little more sinister and not this overly bright and cutesy campaign.

What could be better than optionally choosing to kill an enemy with a chainsaw? It's an option. I like options in games. Is being pigeonholed and forced to play only ONE way a console thing? So why is only the chainsaw able to get ammo? THIS MAKES NO FRIKIN' SENSE whatsoever. Why are all the happy reviewers overlooking this? The chainsaw mechanic makes no sense WHATSOEVER! It's so frikin unrealistic! Is this a magic chainsaw or what? Wow these decisions make me rage. Who's calling the shots up there??? Who came up with this ridiculous half baked idea that killing demons with a chainsaw magically makes them give you ammo? WTF

    IT'S UNACCEPTABLE DAMMIT

    I'm sure this game sucks for the same reason Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout whatever... all those trash Bethesda games FML

    The multiplayer...

    no one's talking about it. Would be a 10 out of 10 if there was a traditional multiplayer, or atleast more then a single multiplayer gamemode,not to mention to mention the extreme lack of options for the one gamemode there is, absolutely no progression system aside from cosmetic stuff. Single player was legendary, it's just multiplayer was a extreme disappointment :(

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all I love this game personally. The folks over at id software have outdone themselves yet again and I can't wait for what they are going to add to this game and create in the future. I have only completed this game once so opinions can be subject to change

    I'm going to talk about the negatives first as these aren't very major (to me at least) but I feel like they are still worth bringing up. First things first is the doomguy/doomslayer himself. In terms of characterization I'm not a huge fan of what they've done. This is a huge spoiler but in the flashbacks doomguy speaks. I really don't see why they've made this decision. It is only in flashbacks but regardless this decision baffles me. He has basically never spoken which is one of the charms about him. He is supposed to be "peak badass" but the way he talks and the line delivery just feels off. I'm not against all of the new attempts however. For example, in the fortress of doom you can see what the doomguy does in his spare time like read comics or play metal guitars. I like this as it isn't shoved in your face, it's an easter egg for exploring. The second thing I don't really like is the change in design of the demons. I do like the newish designs but it doesn't make sense really. It seems to be going back to its roots and designing them like how they were in the original 2 games, but story wise it, there doesn't seem to be an explanation as far as I'm aware of. Some of the "new" designs I actually prefer like the mancubus, but it feels weird them just randomly changing what they looked like in Doom 2016. This is the biggest complaint of mine, which is that the start of the game kind of feels off. I can't really describe it well but until around the third or fourth mission I wasn't really enjoying myself. I think the main thing was the lack of ammo, which seems to be a very common complaint in other reviews. In the first mission I completely ran out of ammo and I was forced to die which just felt unfair. Now I will say that later on in the game once you've obtained all the weapons, ammo isn't much of a problem. You can still run out quickly but with the help of the chainsaw, you can replenish it. Another pretty big complaint, at least for me, are the marauder mini bosses. This was definitely the least enjoyable enemy to fight as it was just boring and felt very unfair. For starters it moves extremely quickly and attacks just as fast. But if you don't get the timings of your attack right, he blocks all damage from you with his shield, which instantly appears. He can also summon a dog which has a very lazy attack animation and if it hits you, slows you down. It felt like a chore to fight a marauder and the fact that most of the weapons are useless against him. The last complaint I have is that I was collecting all the keys to unlock the unmaykr and I missed one in a level I had already completed. But instead of being able to fast travel where I needed to go, I had to do the entire mission over again. This really killed my enthusiasm to continue playing.

    Now it might look like I dislike the game so for, but that is far from correct. Personally, I love the new combat. Doom has always been a movement shooter (well the good ones) and the new dash enhances the combat so much for me. Dashing through demons and grappling onto them felt genuinely great. The new glory kills are great and the enemy variety is incredible. Every enemy was unique in one way which really helps the game from feeling stale. The level design is great as well. The backgrounds and arenas are stunning and the levels are designed in unique ways from each other like Titanfall 2 (another great game). The story was kind of good in the last game. It was interesting but felt a bit lacking in certain areas. This games story fleshes out a lot more like the forces of hell, the night sentinels, doomguy himself (the fact he's the same doomguy from the original games is amazing) and the lore is very cool to read. BIG HOWEVER, I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly but I swear in Doom 2016 it said that Doomguy himself lost his son and made a deal with hell in order to resurrect him, and his son turned into the icon of sin. The latter half is still the same, but it isn't Doomguys son, it's a new character called The Betrayer. I felt that this was quite frankly an idiotic decision. It made sense why doomguy wanted to rip and tear through hell but now it doesn't (unless I'm missing something which could be very possible).

    Now overall my verdict on this is that it is a solid sequel to Doom 2016 in almost every way (why was the option to see how many demons you've killed removed???) and I would say it is worth the buy. I would write more but I am running out of space and apologies if this feels rambly or badly spaced, as it is my first review. Oh yeah and the soundtrack is still good in areas (a lot were forgettable at least for me) but there were still some bangers in the mix.

    I guess the delay was a last resort to try to save the game, or maybe remove much of its content for political reasons, we will never know. For sure this is not the game that was advertised many months ago.

Стрельба - хороша, не уступает Дум 2016. Передвижение - добавили блинк, причем двойной, добавили платформинг. Я к данным вещам в целом хорошо отношусь, для меня они не являются минусом. Другой момент - как именно оформлен платформинг. Помните уровень из Дум 2016, когда надо было по обрушившейся железной дороге подвесной идти, и там были прыжки? - там все было оформлено логично, смотрелось гармонично. Уровень внутри гигантского аргент-реактора - то же самое, никаких вопросов, все гармонично. А в Дум этернал - вот тебе платформы, просто висящие в воздухе, а еще вот тебе огненная вращающаяся палка, полностью скопированная из Марио, из поздемных уровней. А еще вот тебе секретки спрятанные, они обозначены не как просто лежащие на полу игрушки думгая, как в Дум 2016, здесь они обозначены как гигантские вопросительные знаки, висящие в воздухе. Жри, не обляпайся. Атмосфера детского сада. Визуал - постоянная радуга все убивает. И если у тебя во время игр бывает головокружение - вот в эту игру тебе точно нельзя играть, здесь весь этот фейерверк красок просто убьет тебя. Музыка хороша, Мик Гордон никуда не делся. Сюжет здесь максимально убогий, при том тебя заставляют его слушать - вот тебе какой-то додик, и он начинает тебе что-то впаривать, вот три жреца каких-то, война, бла бла бла. Технически игра работает у меня нормально, не вылетает, не фризит. Итог - ну очень неоднозначный проект. Бесконечно лучше, чем Фолаут 76 или Вольфенштейн янгблад, но гораздо хуже, чем Дум 2016. UPD - удалил ее нафиг. Полный мусор. К пятому часу игры понимаешь, насколько на самом деле здесь убогая боевка. Однообразное нудное убожество. Слишком жирные враги, патронов вообще нет, вот эта идиотская система - переключись на одно, чтоб убить этого врага, потом на другое, чтоб убить второго. Говнище. Визуал - мусор. огромные цветовые элементы полностью все убивают. Вот тебе крутая локация, а теперь мы натыкаем на ней светящиеся убогие огромные светящиеся блямбы, и игра будет выглядеть как Paladins. Бесезда официально объявляется говноделами. Кстати, из ИД софтвар свалили все люди из старой команды, там только название осталось. Дум 2016 года - один из лучших шутеров всех времен. Дум этернал - мусор ублюдошный. Обходите стороной. Expand

    Everything's brown or brownish-red color, weapons feels weak, constant interruptions in form of pop-up messages or cut-scenes.
    i guess it's cool if you never played anything outside of doom 2016.

    - The game loves to take control from the player to show pointless animations.
    - The tutorials interrupt the action and I was forced to disable them despite the fact that I can miss an important information about the game.
    - The controls are less responsive than in the previous game.
    - In general the game feels like a 3D arcade but very bad at that. I even fell down the hole because of collision detection fail.
    - The interface design looks childish and stupid.
    - When you kill a demon with glory kill it drops a freaking rainbow. Also, I hate the colourful icons around the map like it's a Nintendo game. WTF? I want blood and gore, not this.
    - The core gameplay loop: kill some demons, run from demons while trying to find any ammo, kill some more, repeat.
    - Because of previous point, you are forced to perform glory kills as much as possible and they become too old very quick.
    - The level design is a mess. Why these arenas are so lazy? The previous installation's design was much better and arenas felt like a real place.
    - A lot of much more subtle things that made me uninstall the game after 40 minutes of playing it with refund request. I can't remember a game that made me hate it so much during the first 5 minutes.

    This is a bad Doom game and this is a bad game in general. It feels like a badly written mod made on top of Mario Odyssey. Such a huge disappointment. I don't understand what happened. Two points from me because it runs well. And that's the only good thing about it.

Every complaint that people have about the actual game itself is actually an expansion of what was wrong with the predecessor, DOOM (2016). Examples include:
    - story doesn't make sense
    - reliance on glory kills, not level knowledge, to stay equipped
    - level design is basically just linear with arenas beaded along on it
    - menus upon menus upon menus in a franchise that started with a game where you only had to access the menu 3 times in the entire playtime
    - cooldowns everywhere like a WoW-era MMO
    - rainbows all over the place
    - terrible modding experience
    In many ways, DOOM Eternal is the ultimate showcase of how PC FPS games have changed over the decades: in the 90s, you had a basic gameplay premise and often had source within 4 or 5 years, and these games are still modded to this day. In the 2000s, expanded budgets meant everyone trying to add in pet features that didn't work. Now, in the 2010s and now 2020s, you are forced by multiple kernel-level applications to play the game exactly as manufactured, modding is disallowed entirely, and the game will be dead in a couple of years.

    The true irony of the title is that the original DOOM will outlast this one that came out 27 years later.

    Doom 2016 was a masterpiece. This doom eternal is a Mario with guns and rainbow flashes.
    Also platforming puzzles in FPS (sic!) are straight time trash. I didn't buy this game to perform some fckn cryptic jumps. I've bought an FPS for fcks sake!

While I get what they are going for id rather just shoot demons and shut my brain off for a few sessions. Using the chainsaw and glory kills just gets annoying after a while.

    Doom 2016 was way better than expected. This one thou didn't meet my expectations. It's just not fun.

    Somehow it looks worst than the 2016 version and silly like a comedy it's supposed to be hell like.

    The ammo mechanics which I thought would be interesting didn't work out. Out of ammo all the time with every weapon. And I play Doom 2016 in Nightmare level. So I don't know it's just not fun.

    If you're looking for a deep and thought-provoking gaming experience that changes your outlook on life, look elsewhere. However, if you want a fast-paced, visceral shooter full of non-stop action and outrageous violence, you can't do better than Doom Eternal. If you liked 2016's offering you will love this follow up. It's a hell of a good time.

    Like Jason Statham’s character in Crank, Doom Eternal needs adrenaline every waking second. So long as you drown hordes of demons in their own blood, it feels like a perfect GOTY contender, but during quiet moments, Doom Eternal withers and forces you to ponder unpleasant questions. id Software needs to course-correct, otherwise we’ll be playing Super Doom Slayer’s Bros in a few years.
