It is exciting to play a shooter, it is a satisfying to play strategy game. Doing both things at the same time, it is just glorious. Disintegration is extremely balanced for being the first take at this new genre, and it is very well polished, too. The worldbuilding is fascinating, the story is not too bad, but the writing of characters and dialogues is terrible. Luckily the game is just so good.

Disintegration is a unique experiment, that blends two different genres in an interesting way. You have to accept a few compromises, but both the campaign and the multiplayer modes offers lots of action with just enough depth.

Disintegration is a game of, and about, duality. It manages to feel like a throwback while it's fresh genre melding brings it straight into the present. It's an occasionally lifeless, mechanically sound construct, but everything about it has heart. It's a double A game, the likes of which we don't often see anymore, and it's one of the most unique and consistently enjoyable sci-fi shooters of recent years.

An intelligent shooter with smart RTS elements, especially for solo players. Although the innovative scenario would have deserved a better story.

Disintegration is a somewhat fractured experience. The game’s quirky combination of shooter and strategy mechanics works, and multiplayer is a lot of frantic fun, but its single-player campaign suffers from some oversights, technical issues, and monotonous design. If Disintegration is a hit, I suspect it will be for its multiplayer, so while I’m being a bit conservative with my score now, the game will hopefully hover to new heights as PvP content is added. Whether you want to jump on your Gravcycle now is up to you.

Back in 90’s, not all shooters had a tough guy with big guns as their main character; some of them focused on a weird vehicle instead. Since then, that subgenre had gone extinct, but with Disintegration, it suddenly makes a comeback. [Issue#247, p.48]

Disintegration could have been a lot worse than an “alright” campaign and a decent multiplayer mode. Given V1 Interactive tried something novel and tried to blend genres and it could have been a directionless mess. What we got, however, was a neat idea with a lot of potential to be something greater, with an execution good enough to prove the concept works. The multiplayer is much better than the campaign, if only because it’s not bogged down with the same design choices as a single-player mode. In saying that, it’s still worth checking out for what could very well end up being the first emergence of a great new genre.

Disintegration poses interesting questions about how we will define the human experience in a recognisable future. It's not going to answer those questions, sadly, but the gameplay is so creatively rewarding and satisfying. Plus, cool robots.

Disintegration is solid and does a good job with its mix of FPS and RTS elements. The strategy aspects feel a little shallow, and neither the campaign nor multiplayer modes really go above and beyond in any way, but there’s still an enjoyable and interesting premise here. Disintegration’s mashup of genres isn’t revolutionary, but its different approach is worth a look.

Disintegration is definitely a pretty solid attempt at merging the FPS and RTS genres. The whole idea behind the gravcycle and the units supporting the pilot is pretty interesting, although it comes short of intensity, depth and most importantly, emotion. The campaign and its story is okay, and the multiplayer can be tense at times, but the combat is just too slow and sluggish.

Disintegration has its fair share of flaws, but it still delivers fast-paced action with a unique spin on the first-person shooter genre.

Disintegration shows a lot of promise, but it’s hard to get away from that nagging feeling, one that tells me this just feels like Early Access. The story is okay, and the combat is fine, but the potential here is far greater than what is actually on offer. There are some good moments, and it is enjoyable, but the story and multiplayer lack much to be desired. If you want a simple sci-fi romp then look no further, but if you’re looking for the next big Halo then you’re going to want to look elsewhere.

Disintegration provides a pleasant breath of oxygen to a genre, such as that of first person shooters, often rooted in consolidated archetypes. Unfortunately, the technical realization betrays the limitations of a budget that would have been better conveyed only on the single player campaign, instead of concentrating a good part of the forces in anything but satisfactory multiplayer.

Disintegration offers a bold take on the FPS genre, contaminating its Halo-like formula with RTS mechanics; despite a number of design limits and a not so inspired multiplayer, that works just fine in single-player.

Disintegration seemed to be in a hurry to introduce itself to the world, and this ended up hurting its campaign. The plot won’t hold your attention, but the unique gameplay mechanics of FPS and RTS systems will surely keep you invested across each map. When it works, Disintegration is a hell of a fun time. Here’s to hoping that the multiplayer mode evolves with the community.

When Disintegration works, it really works. You're shooting guns, you're calling advances and retreats, ordering missile strikes. You really get the sense that you're in the thick of it, the heart of a battle. Both the excitement and stress it induces are testaments to how thoroughly the gameplay draws you in. There are elements around the periphery of the experience that could have been better tuned, but they do not detract from what makes it work.

Disintegration a great game that tries new things and that should certainly be praised in a world full of sequels. The combination of a first-person shooter and real-time strategy game works well in general and is super cool to play with. Its difficulty is all over the place however, which can be a pain sometimes since the weapons don't have the weight you should be expecting.

Overall my time in Disintegration was a fun one, however it just left something to be desired in terms of shooting, or the RTS mechanics, I really hope that if there is a sequel to this game that they drastically improve the shooting mechanics. Multiplayer is fun and I can’t wait to spend more time with it.

It's true that the weird combination of first-person shooter and strategy elements do work quite well in Disintegration, they're not as fun as one would expect (if anyone can expect that). Instead of having the best of both worlds, Disintegration puts itself in the position of potentially being hated by fans of both genres. Yes, the hybrid approach does work, but it's not entertaining enough to warrant a full playthrough. Here is hoping for a better sequel though.

The blending of FPS and RTS gameplay elements makes it unique, but I feel like it struggles to really settle into an identity for itself and tries to pull a lot of different ideas together that don’t always synergize. The world is beautifully striking, but the devil is in the details and I expected my robotic-companions’ metallic shells to shine with the luster and sheen that I would see in any other robot. It’s too bad that Disintegration, much like its metallic characters, feels cheap and plasticky instead.

Disintegration's idea of mixing FPS with RTS seems like a good way to bring something new onto the market, but the way it's been done is wrong, and the game suffers from too many shortcomings to really shine.

A good RTS/Action game that doesn't get the player's attention during its campaign but does have a great multiplayer way to enjoy the mechanics. Sadly, it doesn't reach our expectations.

Disintegration at least proves that, when properly tuned, the vehicle-based gameplay that’s normally presented as a one-off setpiece in most other FPS titles is capable of anchoring an entire game, especially when it’s paired off with a little RTS unit management. Unfortunately, in Disintegration’s case, that unique gameplay model isn’t strong enough to outshine the game’s lack of visual and functional polish.

Despite the intriguing premises, however, the result is a title that thrives on ups and downs, and which struggles to find a good balance between ambitions and development limits.

Disintegration is an RTS/FPS hybridized story-driven game. When combat is in full swing and every move you make is gold, Disintegration feels like an experience worth having. Unfortunately, some of the higher difficulties may fail to hold your interest as some missions can take quite a long time, and the combat can feel very repetitive, with encounters rehashing a lot of the same enemies and experiences. With an added multiplayer mode, Disintegration does have some replayability, but most likely, experiencing the well-crafted story may be the extent of many players' experiences.

It’s still decent fun, though; which is the game in a nutshell. Disintegration teems with potential and it would certainly be interested to see its ideas expanded upon. But if this fun, flawed first attempt can find enough traction for the team to have another crack remains to be seen. I rather hope it does.
  31. Disintegration offers a mid-level gaming experience with poor story presentation below my expectations and unfulfilled gameplay of the RTS part of the game. The multiplayer part, which has a great potential, is spent due to the low number of customization options and low number of players.

Disintegration is built upon a fantastic concept and can be a blast at times, but there's always a frustrating issue or two around the corner that drags the experience down.

Disintegration is a warts-and-all exercise in genre nostalgia. The squad shooter has been missing in action for so long, and it’s a pleasure to have it back, with an even greater emphasis on tactics. But the gruff storytelling and rough edges are a reminder of what we were happy to leave behind in the mid ‘00s – along with ugg boots and The Black Eyed Peas’ My Humps.

Disintegration’s core idea of blending a first-person shooter with a strategy game is neat, but it takes so many missteps that the promising concept gets lost. The action is repetitive, and the basic mission design is tired – you can’t even save the game mid-mission, which is particularly baffling. Amid the tedium, I had an occasional moments of fun in Disintegration, but those moments were fleeting.

Disintegration is a unique game held back by oftentimes irritating and dull game design and a weak campaign. While practically everything about the world and gameplay is unlike anything I’ve played before, too little of it succeeds in being consistently enjoyable.

In an era where first person shooters continually push the envelope in terms of genre tropes, visuals and mechanics, Disintegration is a few years late and a few dollars short.

Disintegration aims high, but it doesn’t quite hit the right points. There’s fun to be had in this shooter/strategy hybrid, but you’ll have to survive unbalanced combat, a poorly explained narrative and some occasionally unreliable AI teammates to get there.

Overall, this was a solid effort that felt quite polished. Unfortunately, it’s missing the most important thing in video games—fun. Perhaps some updates could fix this, but it would take a creative overhaul to do so.

Disintegration is a game of would-have-beens. The combat would have been nice if you weren't stuck to a vehicle that made everything floaty and slow and you could change weapons. The strategy elements would have been nice if your teammates didn't have to do everything and had enough intelligence to stay alive. The shooting/strategy meld would have been interesting if the objectives changed for some variety, and the journey would have been exciting if the story were interesting. There can be some enjoyment in if you look hard enough, but we have already seen better first-person shooters this year alone, so it's difficult to recommend Disintegration.

Disintegration offers ambitious tactical-shooter gameplay, but the novelty wears off rather quickly. It has several design flaws that prevent you from staying invested for the long run, despite some cool ideas.

Ultimately, Disintegration is good, but it does not deliver on its full potential. $50 is just too steep of an asking price for an interesting game with solid mechanics that lacks depth. To some, the game might be worth checking out for its unique gameplay, but most players will likely be frustrated with the package as is.
  43. Jun 10, 2020

Disintegration is solid, but uninspired. The gravcycle and squad gameplay that defines it works when it's allowed to, but pacing proves inconsistent in the campaign and the FPS/RTS hybrid mechanics are only mildly interesting in multiplayer. A commonplace story and what feels like missed opportunities to fill in more of its universe threaten to drag things down further, but when provided with a good mix of weapons and squad abilities, the core combat and mission design show V1 Interactive can craft something engaging. Disintegration is not the next great sci-fi action franchise (as if we really need another), but hopefully, it can be a stepping stone to something more distinctive and unique from V1 in the future.

Disintegration is built on a fantastic idea, but falls apart because of the lousy execution. With a generic appearance and mediocre gameplay, it is not very appealing, which is also evident as you can hardly find a match.

It’s astonishing to see just how far off the mark Disintegration is in terms of how it looks and plays. An astonishment made painfully evident across both of its equally-unflattering, technically-flawed game modes devoid of any quirk, personality or lasting impression. Impressions that are of anything but the feeling of eliciting a smoke-screen so as to mask the game’s evident lack of ingenuity or creative endeavor. It’s more astonishing that, in a vacuum, the design philosophy underpinning its gameplay mechanics feel oddly “complete.” That the conceptual attempt to mix a decade-old mentality on “cinematic” shooter campaigns with some occasional strategy are on show. Showing us that yes, this concept appeals to neither camp — the shooter fan and detractor alike. But it’s the utter lack of care with its narrative, world, progression and above all set-pieces that stings most. Whittled down to the lowest common denominator in such a way you can’t help but feel this is a game ten years too late. One can only hope V1 Interactive can move on and lay claim to greater things in the near future, because Disintegration is a shockingly empty attempt at standing out.

So much of Disintegration is just puzzling. It manages to eke out a space in a hybrid genre but never manages to capitalize on this newfound territory. It offers squad upgrades and control over their movement as a group but fails to let you select who to take with you on a mission or give you control over individual units. You’re given a flying hovercraft but you’re constantly butting up against invisible walls and fences one inch higher than you can fly. It’s unfortunate when a game is bad and broken, but it’s a damn shame when a game is forgettable. Disintegration does not feel up to scratch for a game releasing in 2020.

The campaign's variety in gameplay style, squad loadouts, and setting are all meant to serve as introductions to the online multiplayer suite. I'll be diving into more multiplayer over the next week as currently, there aren't enough reviewers playing to regularly populate lobbies.
  4. Jun 10, 2020
Flying around and giving orders to cool-looking robots is a neat concept, but the simple shooting and squad management of Disintegration’s single-player campaign make it fall pretty flat after a while. The surprising lack of customization and progression make the battles feel disconnected outside of the story, which has some decent characters but is otherwise a pretty straightforward rebellion against evil robot overlords. [Single-Player review score = 60]
  5. Disintegration has a lot of room for improvement, but I enjoyed my time with it, and it succeeds in finding a balance between its shooting and strategic elements. It’s the kind of game I hope gets a sequel, one which is bolder in pursuing its ideas, and not just in its character names.
