Unlike the others who compare this to D2, I'm a new player to the franchise and I can tell you one thing, this game is as boring as hell. Even if you disregard the fact that you're playing a supposed-to-be single player game online that requires constant online connectivity, the game itself is boring. From what I can tell, it reverts back to a dumbed down, ancient gameplay formula, the tech used and mechanics of the game is atrocious in comparison to the games of today. If you put the failures of this game with the fact that Blizzard is such a large and powerful company and the game has been in the works for 10 years to produce the following list of failures, then I'm afraid your heart will sink once you realise you just wasted your game money on something not even worth 10 bucks on steam.

    a) Constant internet connection required for a supposed to be single player rpg
    b) Ancient and dumbed down gameplay
    c) The graphics and textures are ancient
    d) They have a zoom in option which you should never ever chose b/c it will make you cry
    e) Ancient isometric 3D nonsensical mess
    f) Boring gameplay elements
    g) Buggy collision mechanics
    h) Can't pause the game, EVER

I'm sure there is so much more, but really ignore all good reviews b/c they are worthless and are hardcore Diablo fans trying to trick themselves by tricking you, save your time, money and frustration and avoid this game completely. The only good thing about this game is the cool cinematics, which are used to trick people like me.

As an old diablo fan this game is so disappointing in every aspect I just can't bring my self to play it anymore after finishing normal. There is just no point. This.. so called "Diablo" has none, what so ever. From the mmo-related boss fights, simplified character progression mechanisms all the way to the loot and general look and feel. And the storytelling is just plain boring and uninspiring you don't actually care at all about it after a while.
If it was a new IP stand alone game from people who never made an RPG hack and slash before I would rank it as meh, an average game. But as a Diablo game? It sucks so bad I can't even begin to explain. I don't care how many expansions, patches or DLC they can churn out. They can't fix this. This game has been **** screwed over and generally ruined from the ground up. There is no amount of polish that can hide the problems it has. Because they are all at its core. Remember "games designed by gamers for gamers"? Well this is like "games designed by General sales managers for the 'oooh shinnyyyyy ' crowd they think gamers are.
I honestly feel insulted that they are peddling this peace of crap for a "Diablo" game.

If I was Blizzard I would take this game behind the shed, shoot it then bury it and never talk about it anymore. Then start all over again.

I'm not a casual player, I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours playing previous Diablos. And guess what? I like the new one. To all you haters, hear me now. You cry because there are no town portal scrolls and identification scrolls. Well, now you just don't have to buy them every now and again, what you were doing in the previous installments. Cash didn't matter in D2, so you had unlimited scrolls nonetheless. **** graphics? Damn guys, Blizz has never been doing good graphics and those from D2 sucked as well, didn't care. **** artisans? Lol, you really wanna go mining and picking up flowers in Diablo or what? I don't understand all you whiners, it's simple enough for a hack'n'slash to have a system like that. All you gotta do in D3 is clicking from the beginning to the end? Well, I suppose this series was all about that. Auction house is a bad idea? Well, no more O xxx N xxx on the chat, you can buy and sell items instantly. I just don't know if the idea of 15% payment for every transaction is good. If I think that my item is worth 2000, and the guy buys it for 2000, because he thinks as well, why would the system steal my 15% from that? RMAH is the same thing. It's good, mainly because there will be less and less website sellers and those on auction sites. I just don't like the idea that Blizzard is taking 1 euro for every transaction + 15% cut when paying with PayPal. The only drawback that I agree with you is the lack of skill trees and attribute points, but on the other hand... Well, I was playing Bone Necro and I loaded most of the points in energy, so now the game loads them in intelligence when I'm playing my wizard. With necro I was loading points and using only 3 skills. Now there's no points and I'm using more skills. Well, I'll get used to it. Anyways, I really enjoy the game - it's a real hack'n'slash and it lives up to my expectations. Expand

With that being said; i really like this game (THE GAME! Not Blizzard). Ok, the story may lack a little something, but that i can look passed! I like the fact, that i don't need to make more than one character of the same class to try out all the skills. I like the newest feature, the auction house, which is playerbased and not a third party based. And the fact that each class has both a male and female hero/heroine.
The skilltree is gone - lovely! No more restrictions on that part.

Unfortunately my review isn't going to be very positive when it comes to the overall score of the game. Starting off, the graphics for the game aren't even on par with today's standard. The main issue of this game is that it doesn't contain an offline mode or even a single player for that matter. That being said, me being a service member and being at sea quite often, I'm unable to play the game in my downtime. I feel this game is going to be just like Duke Nukem Forever, highly anticipated and blown out of proportion with how awesome the game is going to be. I feel also that this game will follow the same path as Blizzard's "World of Warcraft", level caps and expansions following in the upcoming years with additional payments required. The game is also set to and extremely casual level with checkpoints all throughout the game. What happened to the old way? I truly hope they address a lot of these issues with upcoming updates and perhaps redesigning the game( Expand

Not only did Blizzard need 10 years to make this sub-par game, they have made it with MMO's in mind and moved it away from the "true way"of hack'n slash. There is so much info out on this game I feel no need to explain. Everything about it is just wrong. I really hope the way many fans react to this game/launch will teach Blizzard and the gaming industry something.

Diablo I was possibly the first-PC game I've ever played and that hooked me into the Diablo franchise. The thing with the 2 rating is due to technical support. The reason i am giving this a zero is that I am finally over DRM and the retarded money grubbing auction-house. This game is tantamount to highway robbery if you don't have internet. Also even if you do good luck getting on you it might happen right away it might not who the fuchs knows, Blizzard certainly doesn't. I would also like to point the hypocrisy of the real money auction-house, Blizzard has posited that gold farming in WoW is wrong but oh well if we get a cut its all hunkey dorey. On a more personal note I would like to say I own every game Blizzard has developed, and will not buy another one until they fire the apparent room full of retarded monkeys with typewriters who are high on mescalin running their anti-piracy/having common sense department. Another point of contention for me is the fact that it took them twelve years to make a game that looks four years old built on a server infastructure and DRM system i could have made with my pen1s nailed to my face. If games like Sins of Solar Empire and World of Goo (both of which are amazing) can release without DRM, and have a singleplayer while still making a profit. I'm inclined to believe that, Diablo 3 ,one of the most overhyped games ever that wasn't developed by Peter Molyneaux with a mewling sheep like fanbase that will buy anything Blizzard says is good because of their stellar track record since Warcraft 3 (sarcasm!) might make a profit. All in all I'm not saying pirate the game but I'm not saying don't pirate the game. I'm just saying the game is ultimately disappointing and is not worth sixty dollars for a game that could have been made without DRM at much higher quality in less then twelve years.
