Garbage in every way compared to Diablo II but world of warcraft fans will like this crap. The Blizzard that made Diablo I and II is dead and so is the series. RIP

    (Apologies for my bad english)
A few reasons because this game SUCKS:
    - 6 skills to use at the same time and only three passives.(in torchlight you can play with 12 of them) - No character customization (equal appearance and attributes, yes there is no attribute points, to all characters) so... - Only the gear make the difference between the characters = The game is based on loot. -

    - No free to go world. Only you can go to point A to B to C...and visit some "alternative" dungeons during the trip.
    - Legalized gold selling/ auction house with real money(Steal mode on)
    - Constant connecting to the internet even in the single player campaign.
    - The only PvP option = WoW - Clone arena
    - The Error 37
    - The last two Infernal Lords are really pathetic.
    - A real wasteful of scenic potential. (Combat scenifications, comments of the monsters, music, special situations...a huge mass of good stuff go directly to the rubbish). So, from gamer to a gamer: Just save your money for the Grim Dawn or Torchlight II, Diablo III is an absurdity

I played open beta and couldn't stand it for more then 20 minutes, say all you want about not giving it a fair shot but i'm not going to force myself to play a piece of crap, a polished turd is still a turd, I waited for this game like everyone else. The writing is on the wall and all the indications are there that Blizzard and parent companies are now just lifeless corporations looking to churn out a quarterly profit by providing incomplete products and throwing you a bone once in a while at a premium price thus requiring you continue paying money for a never ending beta. Kind of like tying a dollar bill to a string and pulling it away from your victim as soon as they get close. Very few companies once successful stick to quality standards and seek for never ending ways to exploit and sucker their customers once pleased with their offerings into bloating their coffers. Enjoy dishing out quarterly payments to these big gaming corporations to complete the forever incomplete product you are essentially buying. EA has been doing it for years, adding a few useless features or features that were already there or very easily could of been utilized in previous year titles. Maybe its just bitterness towards the lack of quality in games these days or playing too many and expecting more, maybe the gaming industry is in need of something revolutionary and innovative. The story is plain and dumb, no customization whatsoever, chosing one feat for your skill and call it customs? There is no more skill building, you just chose your arsenal and your gameplay won't be much more different than any other dude having your character.
As always the first playthrough can't be easier, the replayability is just doing the game again (which is short as well) and doesn't add much at all.

Also the game difficulty, most people beat the game at launch day and they now tune the game harder / nerf characters, do dev think this is fun?? fxxk you blizzard

Very disappointing game. I was fortunate enough to have the game work alright, however the combat was dull and uninteresting. It felt more like wow then a diablo game and the story was abysmal even for blizzard. I would not recommend this game to anyone. The game play was best suited for casual gamers, but I doubt that they would want to jump through all the hoops to play this game.

Unfortunately, video gaming is constantlyOutgrowing gaming was something I had begun to accept - especially with PC gaming and its decline. My hopes haven't withered away entirely, with prospects from Bethesda and Blizzard and the upcoming Guild Wars 2 keeping my hopes afloat. I think we can all agree the Diablo series maintains superior replay value for games of their day and age. Unfortunately, video gaming is constantly ever-changing. Console-tards have overrun the video game world. Their need for instant gratification and simplification and flashiness has eventually seeped into PC gaming (cough* Skyrim and there removal of attributes, stuff from previous installments, etc.). Though I'm not that old, I'm a longtime vet of old school titles like the Diablo series. Like many of you, I grew up with the game. I f**king loved it. Still do.

My point is this: The people who made this game aren't the original devs. They borrowed concepts from other oversimplified games, made their own oversimplified Diablo clone, and made Diablo into a chick. Seriously? It's all about the money, isn't it Vivendi? I should have known better. But I digress. - Character development simplified. All skills auto unlock (which is horsef**k). Skills can't be upgraded to your liking with points invested into them (the one thing they should have kept). No attribute distribution. Completely unoriginal skills and effects. The RPG element has dissipated severely. You can make your character male or female. Customization can't get much more depth than that. /sarcasm

    - The original "dark/fantasy/horror" theme of the game is lost. It adopted the cartoon-world style that WoW has. I remember the "grittiness" playing Diablo in the dark, while nearly sh**ing my pants when the Butcher came out of his room. I'm not going to complain about the outdated visuals too much, since the original Diablo games weren't renowned for their graphics. They did what worked - which is what I hoped they would do here. But they didn't.

    - Plot is terrible. Diablo and Diablo 2 weren't the best, I'll admit. By best, I mean something along the lines of Final Fantasy VII and X. How many years was Diablo 3 in making? With all those years of development, I would expect something refreshing in the least. I predicted so many parts of the story it wasn't even funny. I feel like I've been lied to. I can't help but to speculate that the game began development a year or two ago, and they've just been hyping people up all these years to make money (i.e. Chinese Democracy - Guns N' Roses)

    - Sound and effects were alright.

    - I will admit, the auction house was sweet. But they're implementing a real money auction house, where they get a cut. Way to turn the tables on those pesky Chinese farmers, Blizzard. At least they've realized you can't get rid of them; so why not join them, right? #allaboutthe$

    - Buggy launch is buggy

    - Gameplay isn't all THAT bad compared to originals. Diablo was a point and click game originally, but it shouldn't take all these years to realize a game with the exact same concept. People will get their hopes up and expect something unique and original, only to be shot down by something stagnant.

    - Need internet to play? No single player offline? Self explanatory.

    - No PvP. One of the reasons I continued play and developing my characters in Diablo 2 for years on and off was the fact I could poop on the chests of newcomers. When it hasn't been implemented, it implies several things: Character skills and attributes weren't too well thought out. By this, I think they created them for PvE, disregarding the balance and effects players would have combatting eachother. It means the game is unfinished. They took too long making it, haven't finished, and rushed it into the fray to ease the ever growing throng of Diablo-fanboy piranhas (like myself, admittedly). Shoulda saw it coming when SC2 was announced, boys. - Bringing back old school characters to induce nostalgia in older players? Didn't do it for me. I was actually offended seeing these monsters I've slain in the past magically brought back out of nowhere. The only one I wouldn't have been disappointed with and wasn't brought back was Andariel, so I could pause the game and look at her boobies jiggle. Then again, they probably would have taken that out too. Overall, I'm disappointed. It lost that effective formula that I can't quite put my finger on, which kept me and so many others coming back. If you're a fan of the series, don't give in to capitalism and waste your money on this oversimplified Diablo clone. Yes, I'm putting on the level of a "clone" and not an actual title within the series. It's that bad. Like the hero of old who slew Diablo beneath Tristram and became the Dark Wanderer, this game too is nothing more than a shadow of it's former glories. 1/10.

Why Diablo 3 is a failure:

Let's start with the guts of the game, the mechanics and work our way to the less important, but still relevant things they got wrong as well.

1.) Skill system/stat allocation system: Where is it? It doesn't feel like Diablo without it, plain and simple. It feels cheap, unrewarding, and lame. If I roll a hardcore character I might want to put more into vitality. Maybe they could have IMPROVED upon the d2 system, we all know it wasn't perfect. Maybe runes to augment the skills/synergies?

2.) B.net 2.0 - Yet another step backwards, we could have had a beautiful chat room set up with our characters at the bottom of the screen, both matchmaking games to quickly get you in the action and open games (like "act 1 start" etc.) 4 players in a game? 4? Diablo 2 allowed more in a game, doesn't that feel wrong? Hell WoW had 5 in a party, 4 max in a party wouldn't even let me play in a game with my 4 other friends...

3.) RMAH - Just because you can choose to ignore it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Join a pvp arena to have someone who bought all their gear kick your ass. Sounds fun. Lets not oversight the lack of world pvp, no more getting on your lvl 94 alt and kicking some lvl 30 gankers ass. Oh thats right nobody can even hostile in town. Enjoy your WoW arena matches. Maybe there will be pillars to line of sight around, weeee.

4.) Health globes: No no no no. I don't want my life to be dependant on an arcade-ish chance to drop health on the ground. It's **** potions in d2 were not great, but there was some micromanagement to it. It once again could have been improved upon. In path of exile (another ARPG showing some promise) They made the potions recharge on your belt, and potions could be blue, having stats like instant recovery/ 30% increased run speed during potion duration. Blizzard really dropped the ball on this.

5.) Graphics/feel: It's not Diablo 2's next of kin, It is WoW's next of kin. Diablo 2 was full of dungeons with mutilated bodies on torture racks, demons lingering in the dark cursing in demonic tongue. It felt visceral and dangerous. Diablo 3 feels like a loot romp through bland green-tinted grass. Blue and purple dungeons, yessss, great job Diablo 3 developers, really captured terror there. Diablo 2 was Raiders of the Lost Ark and Diablo 3 is Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull. As far as inferno goes it seems like they turned up the difficulty knob to make the game more "hardcore." Too bad when the game mechanics suck it's not even fun.

1/10 and if you disagree, i'm sure you're one that's looking forward to mysts of pandaria as well. RIP Blizzard not going to reward you for alienating your fan base and ruining your game series with poor money-influenced game design choices.

I'm literally stuck at the final boss dieing over and over again because all of a sudden my connection will drop out and 30+ seconds later, the servers catch back up, bringing my death with it. is it my computer? no, im not new to PC gaming, i can play almost every modern game out there, max settings, DX11, tessellation on high, physx, etc. is it my internet connection? no, again, im not new to PC gaming. i can spend entire afternoons in games like TF2 or L4D with no troubles at all. aside from the horrible first week this game has been having with the servers, a new problem is now occurring. a massive amount of people are having their accounts hacked and their items and gear stolen. all of this because in a few weeks Blizzard wants to open up a Real-Money Auction House. This game-item theft concept isnt new, for anyone who's ever played an MMORPG before. However, the bad FAR outweighs the good. - First is connectivity (DRM). I'm OK with it being online, but they need to stabilize the servers. I have a higher-end, very solid system with high-speed cable internet and I still get disconnects, huge latency spikes, and game crashes (2 of which have caused me to lose loot from a boss).
    - Second (related to DRM) is the hacked accounts. While many users are at fault for hacked accounts, this would never be an issue if there wasn't DRM required.
    - Third is the graphics. They are decent and I understand that they are marketing to all systems and not just top-end, but they look worse than WoW which is almost 10 years old. How can we have gorgeous games like Skyrim out there with games still being released that look like D3!?
    - Fourth, huge lack of features. Can't break apart chat channels, disorganized friend's listings, terrible searching/sorting capability of AH, etc. There are so many of these basic features they could have ported over from WoW and they would have been perfect but right now they're just garbage.

This game feels like an Indie game that was developed in about a year or two, not a big 'box office' hit with 8+ years in the making. Fun, but a long way to go to be a 'good game'.

Too much of the game revolves around owners spending GOBS of cash. Practically encouraging real money to be used as currency in game is how iPhone games trick parents into buying virtual trinkets for their kids. Why cant we play it w/o internet connection and more important, why cant we save when we want.? When we managed to log in the game looked pretty ugly. Even with everything on high. Our character (we picked monk) was interesting. He didn't have any attributes to assign when u lvl up, he didn't have talent tree. Only skills to unlock when u gain a certain lvl. Whats the ''RPG'' part in it when the game does everything in auto-mode for u? Runes are boring. Increases damage for xy number. are u kidding me? AH is same as wow, except u can buy items for real money. so pretty much pay to win. we later found out that blizzard is taking pretty interesting cut from transactions. something like sneaky income. crafting is ok. although i doubt anyone will use those items later on and will farm stuff what they want. soundtrack. nothing much to say. its what u should expect - perfect. In conclusion: too much hype for this game which was in development so much, yet failed to deliver all what we were waiting for: diablo feeling. keep your cash on something else. Expand

Like DS3, D3 fails to live up to the previous two versions of the game. Diablo -> awesome game. Diablo II -> awesome game. Diablo III - > It is a major lag fest with very few monsters coming at you at a time compared to previous games. Instead of fun rendered monsters, you get bad 3D graphics. Instead of being able to take the game to a friends house and play over a LAN, or play alone on your own computer, you are required to log into their servers, which apparently are rarely even up.

When the game is there, it is much too easy... the game forces you to play through 8 hours (yes, this supposedly epic game is that short) of mind numbingly easy undead, demons, and gore before it gives you the option to play on a more challenging difficulty level. I suppose you could go Hardcore, but the servers don't seem stable enough for that. Plan for 24 hours to complete a typical 8 hour play through since there is a "mini-game" where you get kicked off of the server (for a single player game) and they repetedly hit "Log In" until it does not give you a random # that explains the current reason you can't connect to the server. If you want to play multi-player, you probably should double that time for each additional player that has to win the log-in lottery.

On the bright side, the game is so poorly executed that even without the DRM Blizzard would not have to worry about people downloading this and stealing their game. Other games are coming out later this year with real offline mode, I would say they are Diablo III killers, but really just about any free hack-and-slash flash game on the internet is that.

On the other hand, from a general enthusiast and casual gamer's perspective, it's a lot of fun! My wife loves to play and getting her to play video games is almost as hard as performing brain surgery with knitting needles. As A standalone game, without the diablo title, it may have been a bit better in my books. The fact they called this game Diablo 3 is a disgrace. The gameplay is acceptable, although the skills are bland, and can be altered slightely with "runes" aka unlocks you get to your base skills when you level up.

The looting system sucks, the multilayer "Match making" sucks. This game wont span generations like diablo 2 did....

In order to play the game, you have to select a quest to play. You cant just join into a game, or create a room. Your stuck doing that one quest. You cant switch acts unless you leave the game and load a quest from the book in the act you want. So no more Practical mf runs...

The colors in the game are.. disturbing... One of the bosses, actually is wearing a PURPLE cape. In D1 and D2, monsters capes were either black, or red... Not purple. 70% of the wizards skills emit purple rays. Monsters seem cheery, and are recycled often. Unique monsters are just larger versions of their orignal 3d models.

The Scenery in the game, is great.... But it does not apply to all places. In Diablo 2 and 1, you had a black space bordering the dungeon you were in. Think the Catacombs in Diablo 2. In Diablo 3, you have a similar level, except instead of a black space bordering the walls, you have in almost every location, a bottomless pit, or a giant wall that heads down seemingly forever. With great looking 3d effects. Its the cellar of a cathedral. It DOES NOT SPAN DOWN ENDLESSLY!

This type of scenery did work well when your near the end up in heaven, seeings the ground below and walls and clouds extending down... worked well there... like horizans sanctuary in d2..

No pvp as of yet, the Diablo world is a dark world, where players can do what they want. In Diablo 2, if i disliked my ally, i could go to town and hostile them, and kill them if i so choose. Diablo iii is going to follow the pvp system from a wow pvp server, it will pop up a menu asking if you want to 'Duel". I dont want my enemies to have a choice, i want to hunt them down...

Replay value? What replay value? Play through it twice and you have all the levels memorized, there is no random dungeon spawning.... Well there is... but its a cave that will spawn in the level at one of a few pre desginated points. These dungeons are always tiny, like one or two rooms tiny, the room fits entirely on your screen.

The characters level up automatically, you cannot set stat points, or skills, the only way to modify this is by equipment. Its pretty much a choice between equipment that does more damage, or equipment that adds more health..

I was hoping to return to places we have seen in Diablo II, meet old characters. But The only returning characters were Ashera, and Cain, and of course Diablo. The only place you see in Diablo III, is a sorry excuse for tristram, that resembles nothing of the orginal. You even get to go into something that's supposed to be Adrias hut.... You don't even cross a river to get there...

Play the game, enjoy it for what it is. Dont take it too seriously, then put it away untill they release an expansion or something...

Would i reccomend this game to the hardcore diablo fan, no don't waste your time / money

If you want the real diablo 3 feel, i'd reccomend games like Torchlight, or Titan quest (Greek mytholodgy)

They pulled it off right. Diablo iii FAILS

So well, we decide it's time to pack it up, log off and continue next evening and what do you think happens ? Everything we discovered is flipping gone ! The map is black again so we had to run the **** boring super-easy content again, and again and again and again and again and again, wtf ?

I will not even mention that the game is flipping laggy at times and it feel like a chore to play it but today it took the cake for me. I am in the lunch break so I decide to play a bit solo with the witch doctor and see what that's about but guess what ? THE FREAKING SOLO GAME IS SO LAGGY THAT I CAN'T FREAKING PLAY ! wow ! So I decide to play a bit to wash away the stress of a half work day and Blizzard got me really pissed off, and all that because I was retarded enough to spend 120 euro for their ****

Now, why does this game have any inventory ? Considering that all character management is gone, vanished, bye bye and that the game currently is kind of a mindless : gather 10000 crap white 2 gold items, go back and sell, rinse and repeat ten folds and that any gold drop above 30-40g will be worth like 20 things in your inventory ... why not remove it all together ? this way you just get rare stuff which gets auto-equiped and that's that, no need to have a useless feature.

What happened to Diablo 2's randomly generated stuff ? We are just in ACT I but until now everything looks the same and stays the same, even the Cathedral is largely the same with not much variation, you can guess where the exits are most of the time - I guess this is how people finished the game in 12 hours or less ? Meh.

There is more stuff but I can't be bothered to put it in, if you don't believe me, the guys @ Rock Paper Shotgun and a lot of other people here feel free to throw your money out of the window and let me know later what you believe.

    Have fun.

Diablo 1 was the first game I stayed up all night for. There are only 2 other games that made me do that one being Diablo 2. Always-online DRM is terrible as it is, but it makes the game unplayable when the servers are down (which they have been alot). This is completely ridiculous - in no other consumer market would it be acceptable to pay $60 for a product that only works 25% of the time, for no ostensibly good reason (they could easily turn off the always-on DRM).

    Sound 6 out of 10
On both our machines (my wife is playing as well) we experienced unbalanced sound. Sometimes the voices are loud and clear and sometimes you cant hear what NPCs are saying. I also had to change the effects level down to 25 percent in order to hear a bit from everything. What you hear is average. The music mostly known from Diablo II and some tracks sound like theyre taken straight from WoW. Everything fits though so no big deal. Only negatives are the voice actors and recordings from the angels...they sound like speaking into a bucket. Not really speaking freely more like reading into a bucket.

    Gameplay 8 out of 10
This is simple. Once you found the class that suits you the game is pure fun. If you liked Diablo I & II you will like Diablo III as well. Theres 2 reasons for me though why it aint got a 10 out of 10.
When you level up for the first time you'll notice you dont get any points to spend. This kills a lot for me. In Diablo II for example I could create any character that I want. Just put some strength to your mage and he can weild a 2 handed axe. In Diablo III the axe is simply not available for your wizard and you cant spend any points. Want to create the ultimate dodging barbarian? Sorry but you cant. I dont see why this got removed. I find it kinda sad that theres a trend to games that everything is automatically done for you while spending points on your character is one main feature of a true role playing game. In Diablo III you cant do anything wrong but you cant do anything better either.
The second point is the online single player. Although youre playing alone you have to queue for a server slot? When you get one you might still experience lag as data is permanently sent and synchronized in the background. This is a no go in my opinion.

Normally this would lead to 7 out of 10 review but there are so many things wrong with the game at the moment.

-315300 possible errors that you can get.
-No free server slots (for your single player game!)
-No access to the game when battlenet is on maintenance.
-Auction house problems bugs and bad design.
-Bugged Achievements (everybody loves achievements :D)
-The well known non-existent customer support from Blizzard.
-Faulty CDs when you didnt buy it online.
-Faulty installers when you bought it online.
-No cow level...ok the Cow King is there but he takes you to Care-Bears LSD trip level where you slay rainbows and unicorns O_o'
-Real money auction house will end up in items only being available for real money. Who is responsible for droprates? Who earns money with every single sale? Blizzard! I guess this model will lead us into a new era of gaming models where you pay for virtual goods. And who tells us that Blizzard themselves wont put auctions on there for real money?

Overall its an unfinished product in my opinion and thus it gets 0 out of 10 from me. Dont get me wrong its an awesome game but the only power that we have (I doubt that Blizzard will care) is to let our frustration out in some way and if that means 0 points for a great game than thats your part you can do.
Lets see how long it takes them to finish the game but knowing Blizzard it will take loooong. Its a great game dont get me wrong but it needs to be finished fast.
If you buy a new car and it has as many faulty parts as this game you simply return it and ask for a new one. With software its different since you cant return it and Blizzard doesnt have a new one, all their versions are faulty ;)

Blizzard decided to make the game more streamlined. You may like it more or less, but it's fine.
I found unacceptable the fact that this is a single-player game that forces you to have a constant internet connection ALL THE TIME. Some games require you an online authentication only you start them at the beginning of you gaming session. D3 requires a connection every single minute you are playing. Diablo 3 is NOT an MMO. It's a single player game (as much as D1 and D2) that also gives you the option to run a dungeon next to 3 other players. It's not a persistent world either.
However, in order to play not only you need to log-in, the game will also constantly send information back and forth with Blizzard server. The same way as an MMO, except that this happens in your single-player game. I have a very good gaming hardware and a good cable internet connection. However, I experienced connectivity lag in my single-player game many times. The character would start moving in slow motion while the latency increased.
I played many MMOs and I have always accepted the drawbacks that came with them. On the other hand, I enjoy the freedom that single-player games have. You can pause the game, play it wherever you want regardless of internet, go at your own pace, etc.
One very annoying thing is that the game will kick you out if you pause it for too long even in single player. This happened with my game many times. One time I was playing the game and my phone rang. I paused my single-player game and talked for 30 min or so. I afterwards made myself a coffee and came back around 45-55 mins later. Blizzard server kicked me out of my game and I had to explore all the area again. It turns out that just like an MMO I had to start thinking were to pause my single-player game if I suspected I was going to be away for more than 30 mins. This is unacceptable in a single-player game.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Diablo III. I have spent, no wasted, 8 hrs of my life attempting to get this game to install on my desktop. Installation gets hung up in a "Updating Setup Files" loop from hell. I tried a multitude of suggestive fixes from the Battle.net site but to no avail. I bought the hard copy from Amazon and will likely return it Monday for a refund claiming game is junk.

All I wanted to do was play the single player campaign like I had done in the past. Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom (err greed)should never made it a requirement to play this game on-line. Obviousely I am not the only one that feels this way. The majority of reviews for this game have been less than stellar. Some heads need to role at Blizzard over this catastrophe. Guess I'll wait for Torchlight II release.

Was unplayable due to lag caused by the permanent connection. (System totally shameful for a single player game)

Lots oversimplified the game lost much of its interest and its replayability.

The result of this diablo 3 is that today I pledge to boycott the battel net and Blizzard games.

The rule of making sequels should be that you take what worked in the original(s) and then you improve upon it. You don't completely alter a sequel so that you can't even compare it with the original. That's what new franchises or spin-off's are for!

    My gripes:

Blizzard must have had only one thing in mind when they made this game. And that thing is MONEY!
All design choices made in Diablo 3 supports this conclusion. They have removed pretty much all things that would make you consider this a game and replaced it with grinds. This is made so that you're more akin to spend money in the real-money action house. This game shouldn't be called a game when it's more like a part time job. (Or full time for some)

There is no difficulty curve in this game at all. Instead you just mow through all content with ease on the earlier difficulties (which is unbelievable boring) until you're hit by a stone wall the size of Mars when you enter the final difficulty (Inferno). From there you have 2 choices. You grind for several MONTHS, wading through piles upon piles of useless items hoping to find upgrades OR you you simply open your wallet and buy what you need. But why anyone would spend money to get items is beyond me as that would completely remove the point of playing the game in the first place.

No character development what so ever. No skill points or stat points to allocate. Instead everything comes down to items, which happen to be bland and boring. All classes require the same kind of stats and items except for 1 primary stat. So that means that everyone is pretty much looking for the same items. Most skill are useless (especially for the witch doctor) and as un-epic as they can get so everyone not only looks the same but everyone uses the same abilities too. In other words there's no variety at all.

All this makes Diablo 3 the biggest disappointment in my entire gaming "career".

There's a lot of negatives about the game and they greatly out weigh the positives. In the end it's a $20 game that they tried to charge top dollar for and that plus some big blunders in design and planning have caused a backlash.

The little of the game I was able to play was horribly squandered on dealing with lag for a SINGLE PLAYER game. Since disbanding Blizzard North, Activ-Blizzard has really gone -south-. I must say Im appalled with the quality of Diablo 3, why do I have server lag on a single player game?, its just a terrible experience, and the bugs, probably related to the lag, but there is absolutely no need for.

Sure sync my stats to the server or if Im teamed up with someone have some lag, but not when Im trying to play on my own and im dropping frames because of f*ing lag IN A

Character customization is practically non-existent, what options are available feel more like a console-based RPG than one that supposedly was designed for the PC. etc... This game is like Dungeon Siege III, another complete failure to create a sequel to a great game. Personal recommendation? Buy and play Dungeon Siege II or Diablo II. They are still great games with great storylines. This is a waste of your money. Expand

I can not in good faith give this game a score higher than 0 with the awful DRM. With DRM games gets a 0; without DRM game gets a 3. And the only reason I say three is because the background music to the installer was good, the rest of the game is a watered-down, WoW dungeon crawler. This IS NOT DIABLO. Pass on this one and save $60

Sorry, but this game is simply a Diablo II clone. Why did we wait 12 years for this game? There's nothing groundbreaking about it. This game is a waste of money.

    Dreadful dreadful game.

The worst thing is the always online requirement. Access has been terrible for me, lots of disconnects and failed log ins. They wont let you play offline, because they have to keep you online, trying to make you use the AuctionHouse, from which they make more $$$, I guess the 60 dollar box price was not enough for them. The game itself has been dumbed down a lot,

This dreadful offering only expands on one of those elements - the simple. Blizzard only seem to be bothered about money these days and watering down their content to appeal to as many people as possible (Warcraft being a prime example & real world money ???). I must be getting old as all games these days seem to only care about the cinematic quality of their games. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a game based simply on the game play mechanics. I think I'll dig out my old Diablo 2 CD's and just play that again. Expand

The gameplay itself is good if you know what you're expecting. It is Diablo. There is hacking and slashing. Skill system is simple and linear. This is a good thing for people who just want no hassle levelling, a bit boring for people who like more customisation. Plot, script and voice acting is cheesy. But fun enough. It can be challenging. You can't play the game offline, even if you just want to play single player. I've been stuck in the same dungeon for hours because I keep getting disconnected and have to start back at a checkpoint. I can't save. I don't care if they fix their server problems, my network drops occasionally. I don't care that my network occasionally drops. That shouldn't be a problem for a single player game. But it is for this one. Don't get me wrong, the Blizzard servers aren't coping, but even if they were I'd feel ripped off. If they somehow patch this to allow for offline single player I'd give this game maybe 8/10? Maybe 8.5 (based on the few sessions where I've been able to play for a while without getting dropped).

But as it is I feel 4/10 is generous. Really disappointed. Feel like I've been suckered into this purchase.

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
