ROS improved Diablo 3 by around 100 times (In my opinion) because before the release of ROS, I had only played the game for about 30 hours in total AND the idea of going through the less than sufficient storyline an infinite number of times felt like a total and utter waste of time. With the new implementation of the Adventure mode and the implementation of the new loot system that game just seemed so much... better! Now I actually have a chance to get all of the legendaries and sets rather than a chance to simply get one throughout my whole playtime :/...

The TWO things that I don't like about this expansion are the fact that:
    1) It's way too expensive for the things it implements, however game changing those implementations are.
    2) There are no where near enough class-specific sets or legendaries that influence the player into changing up their build, although the ones that ARE present at least make an attempt.

I have been playing Diablo 3 with the new ROS expansion non-stop since release and Act V, I admit is definitely the best act thus far, however short it may be.

Overall fantastic expansion but too expensive and not enough class-specific legendaries/sets.

Like many of you, I quit diablo 3 long ago. It was in a pretty bad state. But, after reading several reviews, it seems like they addressed all of my frustrations. No more auction house, the loot that drops actually matters, and advancing in the game isn't frustrating as hell. Now, I'm actually rewarded for time put in.

As for the price, I feel the $40 was worth it. The way I see it, if I can get the same number of hours as the price I paid, then it was worth the buy. The addition of adventure mode and rifts helps a lot, as it makes farming and leveling a lot more enjoyable, and you don't have to be bothered by the lackluster storyline anymore! Speaking of lackluster storylines, act V wasn't very memorable, so for that reason, I'll give it a 9 out of 10. However, when I was thinking about buying Reaper of Souls, I wasn't thinking about storylines.

Negative comments are not real because reaper of souls affects the original game deeply. Adventure mode and new Lot2.0 system are awesome and the game is nearly d2 but next expansion pack should come with pvp 2+ acts and more adventures :) New game directoris better than d3 org director so I really feel happy for new act 5. It is dark and sns.

You rabid fanboys can choke it down holding your nose and pretend it's the best thing you've ever tasted all you like... the jig is up. Blizzard as we knew it no longer exists, and will never return to its former glory. The rest of us should save our money and support some real development shops who actually listen to their fans and don't just polish turds for years, acting like they're innovating by remediating broken promises.

Blizzard already has your money for a game that was 10% of what it was supposed to be, and now are asking for 80% more just to move the game a baby step closer to what it should have been the first time. It would have been a far better long-term move to regain the trust and goodwill of the base they alienated by making this DLC available for free, the way Square-Enix did when they released a terrible game (FFXIV) then spent over a year redoing it and didn't make its players buy all the fixes as an "expansion". Then again, Square-Enix isn't run by Bobby Kotick.

Every publisher can make mistakes. It's how they deal with those mistakes and how they treat their customers that defines their place in the pantheon of gaming. Olympus has truly fallen.

Embarrassing. Really embarrassing. This was supposed to be a free patch, a thank you to those who have thrown their money to the publication of poor Diablo 3. Instead they ask for another 30 Euro. 30 euro for a patch. To which are added the 50 already spent. Total: 80€ to play, after two years, a decent version of the game! Never again Blizzard!!!

Money grabbing dump. ridiculous for a DLC more expensive than the original one. This was one of my most anticipate franchises, but I still remember how shabby Diablo III is. I will never try any sequels.
There are some much better alternatives for this genre, like Torchlight II, Path of Exile.

It was with extreme reluctance I came back to the Diablo 3 game. I was an epic fan of Diablo 2. And I overplayed Diablo 3 when it first came out. I played through one of every character to 60 and wasted a fair amount of time on the Hellfire rings (perhaps I'd be less bitter if I had been able to make one. I stuck with it as things changed and improved with patches. I played through one of every character to 60 and wasted a fair amount of time on the Hellfire rings (perhaps I'd be less bitter if I had been able to make one. The Siegebreaker/Kulle fight was the hardest for me solo and just never paid out) . So after a week of struggling with it and seeing generally positive reviews, I decided to go for it any buy the expansion.
The game has changed. So called Vanilla D3 is dead, gone, and never coming back. Every character has been changed and had their skills re-balanced. This is trying to break up the "builds" everyone required to beat the original game at higher difficulties. It mostly works, although I found my Witchdoctor still stuck to the base build pretty closely.
And the auction house, which short circuited the reward system that made D2 so popular is gone. There is less loot, but it is more meaningful and better quality overall.
They changed the difficulty system and I like the new system better. I decided to play act 4 before trying out the new character. But when I get around to it I'm glad I will not be forced to do the 3X repeat of the base game with the new character. I don't have the patience to do that again. New character or no. I can jack the hardness from the start, and only play through the base game once and I like that.
Concerning the new act. I heard a lot of reviewers say it is bigger than the other acts. Its not really. Its more varied. It looks better. Much much better level design. But mostly its not familiar yet, so it seems bigger. There are however a lot more mini quests going on that you stumble across going through it. And thats a good thing.
The boss fights in the new act are more challenging but also more fun. There is a decent mashup of new bad guys to slaughter. Nothing mind blowing there, but not disappointing either. The "plot' of the new act is about as dumb as the base plot for D3. Loaded with cheese. I had high hopes for the companion quests. Those were a bit of a letdown. They were a lot smaller and shorter then expected. I also was expecting some kind of unique reward at the end of one or all three but no.
And then I beat the final boss. Good boss fight overall. Like the diablo fight but slightly improved and different.
And then it was time to explore the new endgame content solution. The Rifts. I've rifted once and I wasn't impressed. I see a system here for item farming to jack the difficulty and repeat. It beats re-playing the base game over and over, but not by much. I'll certainly exploit it long enough to earn the new hellfire ring. But thats it.
This expansion has something the base game never did. A sense of finality at the end. I'm still going to explore every bit of new content in the expansion. But when its done its done.
I also found that loot 2.0 left me in kind of a bind at times. I have swapped out most of my gear on the push to 70 but certain items because of the option changes never really improved over legacy gear. For instance I think all my characters have a witching hour belt. You can't get those stats on a belt anymore. So when I got a set belt at level 70 it improves my healing a little, my toughness a lot, and my damage goes way down. Do I swap it for the legacy witching hour? No reason to yet.
I also had high hopes for the Mystic. So far she has proven somewhat helpful but also underwhelming. She can make good gear into great gear sometimes. Often I found the gear that was an improvement she couldn't make better in any meaningful way. And she can't touch or improve legacy anything.

Oh yeah. Almost everything from pre-reaper of souls D3 is worthless. There are a few legacy items like the witching hour that are still helpful, everything else is not even valuable as scrap. Should have sold it before the auction house went down. It would be nice if they allowed us to sell the items at AH prices to merchants in town. Or maybe if there was a quest to upgrade the legacy items to level 70 versions it would help. That would take some of the sting of the hard earned 20M Manajumas carving knife being obsoleted by a spear at level 61. (Thats just my example).
All and all this is more than just DLC. It is an expansion in the traditional way but comparing it to Lord of Destruction it is a bit light. A lot of gamers feel owed about half what came out in this expansion. Which is why I think they call it overpriced. And I do think it is overpriced, but not by much.
If the base game had all the content of this expansion in it from the start I'd have sunk 200+ hrs into it, and stopped playing feeling satisfied.
As is this expansion is as close to redeeming D3 as Blizzard is going to get. Its almost enough, but it came very very late. Here's hoping their next game is better. But I won't be playing it

A vast improvement from the first iteration of Diablo 3. However, when compared to Diablo 2's expansion, Lord of Destruction, this is nothing more than a glorified DLC. LoD contained TWO new classes to play along with the new act, more levels, and more items to tinker with. However RoS doesn't offer as much.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend buying Diablo 3 : Reaper of Souls. Expansion adds very little to the game or endgame - its mainly just rifts and bounties. Legendary drop rates are abysmal and set item drops are almost nonexistent. Blizzard doesn't want its players to have fun, they want us to grind for months for a single upgrade. Game could have been great but sadly its unrewarding and shallow.

But the game is about loot, and they finally seem to be getting the hang of it.

Game is less about stacking trifecta now and more about combing key pieces in interesting ways, (and various new affixes) which in some ways circumvents the loot wall, since finding a piece leads to you completely changing your gear around it, which means you need to find pieces to support that. It can get pretty complex when you find yourself weighing the benefits of multiple pieces of gear. If only I could wear 26 pieces! My favorite item I've found are some bracers that restore my resource every time I pick up a health globe. Kind of game breaking, but in a good way.

If you played the original, hated Inferno, hated the drop rates, and hated how dull the items were, it's probably worth checking out. I think you'll enjoy yourself. If your stance is "Blizzard North Skill pointz 8 player games" then still probably not for you.

RoS adds Act 5 to the campaign and a new class, the Crusader. Act 5 is not very long, but feels dragged out because the size of the areas are massive. But these areas are filled with lots of extra events and the boss encounters are well designed. The Crusader is very fun to play and fans that missed the Paladin from D2 will be happy.

RoS also adds a new game mode called Adventure mode, in this mode all acts are accessible and you can freely travel between them while doing random quests called bounties for loot and blood shards. Blood shards allow you to gamble on items from a new vendor for chances at legendaries. In this mode you can also open up randomized gauntlet type areas with a big boss at the end called Rifts which give you extra chances at loot and more blood shards.

A new crafter, the Enchanter is also part of RoS. This new crafter allows you to change one mod on an item for a cost (depending on the item rarity and type, the cost can be very significant). But it allows you to salvage some items that would be a minor or zero upgrade and turn them into a major boost. This enchanter also allows you to change the appearance of your gear (similar to World of Warcraft's transmog feature), your characters will no longer look like mismatched clowns.

Blizzard has promised more features like Ladder play are still coming, along with tweaks to adventure mode so things should improve even more in the future.

But while Diablo 3 is actually fun now it's still an aRPG designed for a very casual audience, and RoS hasn't changed that. If you want deep character development you'll still need to look elsewhere, like Path of Exile.

A big step in the right direction for the game. After a dissappointing initial launch the series became crippled with poor reception due to a game that was perceived as being fundamentally broken, and in many cases this was a fair criticism.

The AH is now gone, and with this most gear has become bound to your character, only tradeable between party members, but at the same time, we've seen a huge re-vamp of how a player finds rewards. Simply put, finding your own gear finally works now, getting back to the essence of the genre.

The Mystic adds some much needed wiggle room to play with unwanted stats, gems have been upgraded, and the Blacksmith abounds with new patterns, many of them legendary, for players to try their hand at crafting.

The new Crusader class fills the void of a mid-range caster/battlemage archetype based around the traditional "Holy Warrior" trope. Personality wise the Crusader falls short, but fans of the overall archetype will probably enjoy playing one. It's a solid class, no doubts.

Other classes have received a new skill, complete with new runes for it, and an extra passive slot along with new passives. Not bad, especially those skills belonging to the Demon Hunter and Wizard. The classic classes have also been tweaked numbers wise in many ways. Your mileage may vary.

The Paragon system has been re-worked to a fantastic effect and is now account wide, allowing the player to allocate special points as they level up to certain stats like Movement Speed, Crit Chance, Attack Speed, Armor, etc. It's very cool, especially once you rack up enough Paragon levels to see significant results from your stat choices.

Act V is the best act in the game without a doubt. It's still not high literature or anything, but it's a cut above the rest, and you can see that they took a lot of time and effort to create it. It's very cool and immersive. They held nothing back for it. Lore nerds celebrate, there are many tomes to be listened to!

The Adventure Mode with the Bounties and Nephalem Rifts is fantastic and finally makes farming something players can do freely without being tethered to a story. Want to clear Keeps then port to Act 1 to clear Hollow? No problem. Want to do some mini-quests along the way? No problem. Want to open some Neph Rifts and just kill hordes of monsters in a huge dungeon, culminating in a boss like the Butcher, Cydaea, or Rakanoth? No problem. With the addition of the clans and communities feature, finding friends to do these things with has never been easier as well.

Overall the expansion is solid, thought not revolutionary. What is most important is that Reaper fixes the core game, and sets it back on track. With ladders in the future, and whispers of a potential 3rd expansion, I think it's safe to say that Diablo 3 is well on its way to recovery and a re-gaining of respect.

Definitely pick up Reaper of Souls if grinding your face off against hordes of demons sounds like your thing. It's worth the money.

Coming from somebody who was DEEPLY disappointed with the original Diablo 3 (I played the original in beta and suffered through its rocky launch) it blows my mind how much better this game is. The expansion is far better than original D3, but it still lacks PvP and more rewards for challenges. I hope Blizzard will add them soon.
The new content makes it worth playing.

Game-play is well done, combat is excellent but the game still lacks any real depth.

It's fun for week or two but I don't see myself playing this for years like Diablo-2.

At last! Diablo III became the game I was looking forward to. Reaper of Souls does more than just improve the original – it reinvents it and helps it reclaim the hack’n’slash throne. [05/2014, p.50]

Heaps of new content provides hours of fun, even though the campaign could use a little extension. But if you’re a fan, this is a must. [Issue#241]

Blizzard did the obvious: literally transformed Diablo 3 to what it should have been from the start. It took them some time, but finally Blizzard got the message and moved finally to the right direction. While we expect the next expansion, fans of action / rpg can now sleep peacefully ... the king is here!
