Diablo III was a mess. The auction house was an abomination. I quickly got bored with it and didnt play for several months. Reaper of souls came out and I didnt immediately bite. With the new 2.1 patch however, something about this game is different. ITS ADDICTIVE. I have well over 150 paid other games throughout origin, steam, and battle.net and I keep finding myself coming back to Diablo III. The new season ranked ladder aspect is fun, granted its not something i'm super interested in. One thing i like about seasonal is that its a fresh start. you've gotta train up your jewelcrafter, blacksmith and enchanter again, find all new gear etc. There is also seasonal only gear that you can only get if you start a new seasonal character. What this means is that every new season new gear will be introduced, so always fresh content. Cant wait to see what blizzard does with this title in the future. Its def a step in the right direction from a terribly disgusting start with the original diablo III. Expand

Still no single player option? You know what is really nice about games you can play as single player? You never get hacked. Thanks Blizzard, now take a zero.

First of all, I'm not big fan of hack & slash games. I had PC version, but only finished Act I because controls was bad and story not too good. On PS4 version only story is same and with that not too good. Everything else is perfect in this game. Controls are made best possible, gameplay smooth, running without FPS problems. This is probably 1st H&S game I'll play more than 1 playthrough ever!

This game is a lot better now than it was at launch. Removing the auction house improved the game play a lot, since it is no longer just about farming gold or paying cash to buy gear. Adventure mode adds a lot. The new crusader class not so much.

Let me start by saying I made a Metacritic account JUST to make this review.

I've been a Diablo fan since the release of the original Diablo. I've been a Blizzard fan since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. I bought this game based on the opinions of fellow friends that seemed to have good taste in gaming. Many people praised it's incredible gameplay, awesome multiplayer action that would extend for days beyond it's release.

When I first started, the plot seemed exactly what I wanted. The hero is almost immediately involved, checking out the damage done by the meteor that hit the hall. As the cutscene continued, the dialogue kept losing credibility, lots of gaps were made in the unholy plot and the writing was definitely written for a 5th grade audience. These were things I kind of expected. I read a few of the books after playing diablo 2 and they were good when I was a teenager. But this plot? Jesus, don't get me started. I actually spent a good while laughing at the crummy dialogue.

Let me tell you this plot is pretty basic and extremely lackluster compared to the previous two. I beat the game, not once was I hooked or compelled by the story. I don't know how they managed to write such a mediocre plot within YEARS of development. This game is f*cking atrocious in far more aspects than just story, however.

Lets list the problems with the gameplay. First, the skill tree doesn't really require you to know what synergy is. It's practically non-existent. When I first started playing, the visuals were pretty astonishing, but that's not saying much. It looks like WoW that takes place in a graveyard/hell/whatever halloween-related **** setting. It wasn't even mildly horrific. So, then you go on to complete somewhat mundane quests, following the path that blizzard set out for you. The plot line is linear, but even MORE linear than the second! You literally have a check list of things they want you to do and procedurally go through them mindlessly. Normally, I can dig it. It's just the story left such a **** taste in my mouth that I got bored by the third act! I decided to push further, just to beat the game to give a holistic response to this game.

Also.. The BUTCHER? In DIABLO 3? A reused character? Laughable. At least the bosses in D2 were unique and interesting (not to mention, characterized to the setting..)

Items... Let's look at how uncharacterized the items are. Everything boils down to Damage, toughness, healing. This is the naive approach. However, it does delve deeper than that. What's with the ridiculous stat increases? It's unnecessary and makes it slightly harder to estimate. Loot is pointless. There's no dynamic character building because your character gets all the f*cking skills. What's the point? I hardly want to perfect ONE character, much less several different characters that have unique attributes (BECAUSE YOU CAN'T).

No chatrooms. Awesome. One of the most memorable things about Diablo/Starcraft is gone. How did this sound like a good idea? Just make it an option for people who want it.

No making games with actual NAMES to join. Another non-intuitive thing blizzard made by REMOVING features. When is removing features a feasible options to improve a game? It's almost comical.

I don't know if I covered everything about this game that I dislike. I think I threw in a few redeeming qualities but it wasn't much.

Bottom line is, I don't give two sh*ts whether or not your servers work the first time I log in or not if the gameplay is horrid. The fact people are rating this game on that is absolutely absurd to me.

Also, Blizzard fanboys are blinded to crappy games. Not my problem anymore.

You can complete the tasks or just go where you like. There's also this new thing called "nephalem rifts". There was nothing "overwhelming", no "wow", or "mind blown" to be found in this game.

Once we cleared the fifth act, leaned back and overlooked whats left to do the illusion was falling apart pretty quick and the addon became very negligible. Took us maybe like 10 hours to finish act 5. At this point we kept on farming for some more hours, done some "rift" runs, finished tal rashas set.

But it became obvious that there are no real new experiences waiting, no interresting experimenting, no interresting challenges. Basic elements of the game, like skill tree or items, are just much too simplistic. Yes basically this addon could have been a huge content patch. It is just big enough to justify taking actual money for it.

Half the time we spent was maybe 8/10, the actual first playthrough in act 5 for example.
The runs that followed the first playthrough already been pretty boring and desperate runs trying to farm some legendaries and set items.

    Overall experience: 6/10.
There are much better games out there.

Compared to the LoD release of Diablo 2, which saved the game... RoS missed the mark and gave us nothing but the same junk that D3V had. They took trading out of the game which has made it stale and you have to depend on yourself to try and find that perfect item. In D2 you had a much better chance to find that item on your own over the RNG crap you get in Diablo 3.

Only thing I can say good about this expansion, smooth release, however, that is what you get when you only have a few million connecting over the 5 to 6 million connecting on release day of D3V, but there was very little improvement on the game itself. Same old boring content, no incentive to actually play. Gear sucks, repetitive rifts suck, and with 2.1 coming up, they just added more of the same crap. More rifts that "scale" called greater rifts, still no incentive to play anything other then a fire spec on most classes, and the gear STILL sucks.

The removal of the AH/RMAH is another reason that I love the expansion. I personally thought that with the RMAH made the game biased towards people who had money to drop on the game, and as someone who is just out of high school, that person is not me.

I will admit that the vanilla game had some weak points to it. The difficulty levels is a great example, I am sure that most of us have tried to power level your Paragon Levels on Inferno 10 and it either took 10 minutes to kill one encounter or you died within 2 seconds of entering the area. The fact that in ROS that I can run the game on Master with a new character and be an appropriate level to kill the final boss of the Act without dying an obscene amount of times (I'm talking about you Belial) really appealed to me.

What astonishes me about other reviews of this game is how they are based on a couple hours played at a friends house and not extensive play, so to those reviewers: actual beat the game from start to finish before whining about it and calling it a bad game.

I am going to finish with this, to those of you who are going to think when they read this, that I'm just another fanboy who is constantly optimistic about how this game will get better, stop now because yes I am a fan of the Diablo series, I have beaten all three games with every character, but I like this game, it holds up to the Diablo legacy of being the King of Hack'n'Slash games. It was well worth the $40 and I will get hours more of enjoyment out of it.

PS: IT'S NOT DIABLO 2, IT WILL NEVER BE DIABLO 2 SO SHUT UP ABOUT IT.

The game is heading in the right direction, Still needs a "real" form of Player vs Player, the brawling system is terrible and was rushed in since blizzard promised Player vs Player at launch of Diablo 3, however I'd rather wait for a viable solution to that, I think the game NEEDS some form of trading/bartering system, similar to D2 minus all the item duping, I'm hoping the Bind to Account is just a temporary thing until they can create a viable trading system and form of Player vs Player. True it is that what you get is one new Act, 10 more levels and one new character (Loot 2.0 is not a Reaper of Souls addition) but there is nothing to fault in what is provided. Giving Blizzard the oh so undeserved shadow of a doubt, I tried out their "Loot 2.0" and sure, there are improvements like any non brain-dead developer would have done following the massive wave of well-deserved criticism but you're still gonna get gray/worthless items. You're still gonna run into the fact that there are very superior loot-earning strategies through certain bossruns. You're still gonna experience DRM-enforced FPS lag.

It's simply unacceptable and looking at the screw-up over TWO YEARS ago? Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is an apology from Blizzard that is more than 365+ days overdue while also packing a hefty pricetag of 40€ (60€ for collectors, no discount for previous pre-purchasers).

The official Diablo 3 General Discussion forums is a very toxic place, but the class forums and communities offer a better experience. For an expansion pack that only provides 1 additional act and 1 more class, it's definitely not worth the price I paid for it if you just intend to play the game to completion in solo mode.

Blizzard has skewed much of the longevity of the game towards the multi-player experience and the loot hunt. The trouble is that certain design decisions (such as limiting trading, combat mechanics) don't really foster good co-operative gameplay, and the public game experience can be quite unpleasant.

A great ARPG which has fixed the flaws present in the original D3 release and to an extent, ones in D2. The only reason I did not give it a 10 was because of always online, average music and bah plot. Compared to Torchlights, other Diablo games, Path of Exile and few others, D3 is realistically the strongest.
