Woah!! This game was exactly what I expected Human Revolution to be, even though I expected it to be somewhat poorer because of some bad reviews. I expected HR to be an amazing game that would sweep me off my feet, but it was just an all-round really solidly good game. MD did sweep me off my feet though, and not once or twice.

To start with, it's a **** PERFECT sequel, with most mechanics, world design elements osv retained, but improved, and an appropriate amount of new stuff added. Feels like a perfectly natural continuation of the story and of the gameplay from HR, but significantly more advanced.

The main story (albeit in completionist "mode") took me 61 hours to finish, which is by far the longest shooter I've ever played, (maybe apart from Just Cause 2, but that's a massive open-world game). The DLCs took further 17 hours, and I haven't even played the Breach (an alternative puzzle mode). Impressively, at no point in the game did I feel like I wanted it to end already, which often happens to me even in 10-15h games!

    positive:
    - mindblowing (!!!!!!) world and object design. I swear they must've hired genuine architects and interior designers for this game. Fantastic attention to detail and beautiful design throughout. Also almost no repetitiveness, which was the biggest annoyance in DX:HR for me.
    - amazing soundtrack!! there were several occasions when I didn't really want to progress because the music was so awesome.
    - amazing main character design and voice acting
    - the game still very robustly justifies the "science" in "science fiction"
    - very good npc model design and voice acting overall
    - very satisfying, fun and balanced combat. really well-implemented on-the-fly weapon modification mechanics, great weapon design, etc.
    - well-executed stealth mechanics
    - great story and side quests
    - enjoyable and well-balanced augmentation system
    - really sick atmosphere
    - greatly improved npc interaction (e.g. they'll say something if you steal from them, or confront you if you do it several times), really couldn't complain this time, all forms of interaction were pretty solid, also when stealthing, etc.
    - better XP balance (e.g. the game gives you XP for using uncovered codes instead of hacking stuff, so actually encourages exploration and reading everything)
    - greatly improved takedown mechanics (e.g. enemies are pulled behind cover as part of takedown from hiding, instead of being thrown forward or just down, which was a major annoyance in DX:HR)
    - virtually no boss fights, which is great, because who needs that! and they were underwhelming in DX:HR
    - top notch user interface design and implementation
    - the world is significantly bigger than in DX:HR and a lot more fun for exploration, with a great amount of well-planned hidden areas, hidden lore, etc.
    - virtually no bugs
    - cutscenes rendered in high resolution, not 1995 quality like in DX:HR :)

    negative:
    - still horrible lip sync, or virtually no sync (sometimes seemed random), which is very strange for a game of this magnitude
    - still no reflections in mirrors, which is again a bit puzzling for a game of this magnitude
    - some frame drops when entering open areas for the first time in a while, but nothing tragic

How can anyone like this game? The story is messy and boring. The first mission is like you started in the middle of the game. The hub is crap. The stealth sucks. The only thing good about it is that I spent €4 on it which is already too much.

i really can't understand how people are able to give this game a good rating when this game is nothing but 60dollars stepping stone just look at the last cinematique .
And what the **** do you mean but your choices matter , oh really eliza speak of them in the news , great i feel 100times more important.
****ty graphics this game isn't a new gen game , disastrous performance on high spec .

So let me put this straight in the last five years you spent creating the game you achieved :
    -better gameplay
-better sidequests (we are talking about 10 of them)
    -moderatly good city hub

But you failed to upgrade your graphics , create a good story , and finish the ****ing game.
whether you chose not to or you couldnt finish, this is unacceptable.

i finished this game in 20 hours (all side quests possible and a little of exploration) 5 of these hours spent in the metro with the incredible long wait time to get from zone to zone.

and i still dont get why they did the 2 districts instead of one exept for boosting the on paper play time.
Plus the marketing scandals of the day 1 dlc , the preorder and mircrotransaction isn't something that really surprised me , as i'd always know square enix as being first grade **** .
I bought the game +season pass for 70 dollars dont make the same mistake i did , and dont buy this pilot episode

This game feels more like an expansion of Human Revolution, than an entirely new game. The atmosphere is disjointed and unimmersive, from a character perspective, yes the lore is there but that is it. This is a far cry from what this game could have been and what I had hoped this game would be. 4 out of 10 for the graphics, the fact that it is Deus Ex which we needed more of but it fails to deliver, anything beyond the 2011 Human revolution, I dare say that HR is still the better game.

-the story all though it can get convoluted at times is pretty good. It continues the story from human Revolution marvelously without it feeling out of place
-the gameplay is basically human revolution 2.0 and if you liked the gameplay from human Revolution (like me) then this is right up your alley. But sadly there's a big downfall to this game

    Cons:
-the microtransactions. Everybody loves them right. But the thing that completely destroys this is that the microtransactions are in the singleplayer!!! WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!! ARE YOU **** KIDDING ME!!!!! granted you can play without them but it's still crummy as **** oh and btw even if you bought the microtransactions you only get them for 1 save. once you make a new one or overwrite the save it's gone. Come on Square, come on!

In conclusion if the microtransactions weren't present this game would've scored a 7/10 from me but that greedy practise ruined it. If you can get past that bull**** and if you liked Human revolution then by all means go and get it.

I can pretty much copy and paste the other negative reviews. Since i don't need to add anything to it.

    - Major performance issues.
    - Denuvo.
    - Day one DLCs.
    - Microtransactions (if it wasn't insulting enough, they're single use transactions!)
    - Bland story.
    - Grindy feel to the game (hence the microtransactions).

I have literally no idea what all the whining about microtransactions is. If I did not read the articles mentioning it I would have never even realized they are in the game. By only playing the game itself and doing side quests I had so many praxis kits I did not even know where to put them in the end. If people say this game feels grindy, they outright lie. It is possible that if you do not do side quests, you might lack on praxis, but that was the same in DX:HR and it totally intended. Side quests reward you for doing them,

This is a SP game, if it does not interfere with your own game (aka, makes it harder for you to play) why are you so butthurt about people putting additional money in the game (and yes, they make it pointlessly easy for themselves, but once again how does that affect you?)

Now for the actual game itself, I loved every second of it, I loved Prague (for me it was a bonus point considering I live in it, and hearing all the Czech lines which were actually quite hilarious - feel kind of sad that other players couldn't understand them], the game is amazingly optimized {I played it on 6 years old Phenom II X4 965 BE CPU and ran it on medium settings like a champ).

The gameplay itself is amazing, my first play was stealth and the game absolutely supports it. Will try more FPSish on newgame+

The game will lose one point for the story ending. The story itself is absolutely enjoyable but it is true that the end of the game leaves too many questions unanswered.

    Summary:
    Playtime: 27 hours

    + gameplay
    + optimisation

+ Prague settings and mechanical apartheid feel
    + side missions
+ Elias Toufexis' voice being awesome as usual

Regarding the bad and "bad" points let me comment on them:
    1. Micro-transactions - never used them. By the endgame, I had Jensen fully upgraded the way I liked and 3 unused praxis. Maybe a less hardcore player might want to buy some praxis (cheaply lol), but there is no real need for that. It would even spoil the balance of the game. There is a video at youtube how to find 15 praxis in the game world, I'd miss half of them.
    2. The game runs smoothly on my rig at 2560*1440. Though I had to set mouse sensitivity at 10% (!) of the default setting. At 100% the game might look jerky I imagine. No crashes.

Now some real but minor gripes:
    3. There too many vents / passages, so convenient... It does spoil the experience a bit IMHO.
    4. There are some cut scenes which cannot be skipped.
    5. The story could give us some more surprises but it is Ok. On the other hand I should note that side missions are not too many and they blend with the main story nicely.

Maybe it is a 8 title but I am giving it a 9 to compensate those 0-1 whining reviews.
    0, really? Common people!

Advice for new players: invest in stealth style augs first because there will be many enemies like security who are not bad guys, no need for them to die. Titan is a waste!

Some of my likes/dislikes, you can compare your and my tastes:
I liked the following games: Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1, 2, 3 N.W., Jagged Alliance 2, Witcher 1 and 2, System Shock 1 and 2, and Doom 1 and 2, and Spear of Destiny, yes!
I did not like the following games: Fallout 4, Witcher 3.

ps I am not a native English speaker, sorry for possible mistakes.

The most important thing for me in a game like DX is that I need to "fall into" the world. It has to look and feel complete, with details and compelling characters. DX:MD completely succeeds here. I can't say enough good things about the art direction and world design. The level of detail was at times overwhelming. I spent a good deal of time wandering, exploring Prague, listening to conversations (a remarkable number of unique ones), and just getting a feel for the world. When I first got to TF29, I spent at least an hour just exploring, reading email, and talking with everyone.

I thought the story was fine - compact and focused, yet with tendrils of the larger conspiracy. I didn't think the ending was abrupt. Perhaps that's because I was prepared for it, but I think the main reason is that I look at DX:MD as a serial. There are going to be more episodes, so it is appropriate that not every one is wrapped up neatly. I'm good with that; in fact, I was getting a little tired of the DX formula: the game ending with a conclusive, world-changing event in which the hero decides the outcome. I appreciate the change of pace in MD. Of course, I would have been even more happy with a longer game, but I don't feel cheated.

The side missions were one of the highlights of the game. Almost all were deep, complex, with fascinating characters and significant choices. The side missions added as much to the game as the overall story; that isn't an indication of the main story's weakness, but of the side mission's strengths. They completed the world. As did the other characters, each unique and with their own set of motivations.

Game play was solid - a little better than HR. Some of the new augs were pretty cool, but I didn't try them all as I was doing a mostly-stealthy run. Thus, my weapons experience was pretty limited too. The guard AI seemed reasonable.

Graphic performance was okay; I had to drop down some of the settings from High a bit to get a consistent 60 FPS on my system, which is basically a "Recommended" spec. That was disappointing, as was the lip sync (especially for minor characters). Minor complaints, but complaints just the same.

As for game length, I played 45 hours. I did all of the side missions, but I didn't explore every nook and cranny. I paid $45 for the game (pre-order on GMG), and considering I plan at least 2 more play-throughs, that is great value-for-money.

Absolute and total rubbish. Just like any "AAA" game. As idiots keep buying this stuff, they keep pushing the boundaries and laughing out loud with your green in their pockets. Single use microtransactions now. Really ? And in an single player campaign to boot. Hah, what will they think of next. Who still buys this **** ?

Poorly optimized for PC, forced mouse acceleration, how can a studio do Human Revolution on the PC so well yet mess up the sequel so badly. Buy it on sale only after they patch this damn thing.

With that out of the way, what Deus Ex M.D. brings to the table is a few new augments and a greater plot involvement from the forces behind the scenes of the original 2000 game. However, these are not really enough to freshen the experience considerably. The new toys are fun, the familiar names tie into the narrative, but sticking to old augs and ignoring the plot works just fine.

The gameplay is still solid with multiple paths to your goal and different methods of achieving it through force or cunning. There are great episodes allowing for creativity and fluid action and then there are big stretches of the game that more or less force the player to do what the designers wanted the player to do in order to see some exposition, denying some obvious logical solution to the problem that would also bypass those stretches of the game.

The exposition is still somewhat of a problem. The game tends to wrestle control away from the player and show them how Adam walks through a door to engage in a plot-delivering conversation with some character instead of allowing the player to check the door with augmented vision and make their own decision on how to proceed. A few obvious traps are also forcibly ignored. Of course "two guards stand still and wait for Adam to come close before delivering some atmospheric detail through fully voiced dialogue and going their separate ways" is still omnipresent, but these voiced dialogues almost never deliver any important information, which is hidden in personal secretaries and computers instead.

Prague serving a central hub for the game also results in a frustrating amount of back and forth shuttling between the two districts, especially towards the end of the game, where every side mission will be delivered to you when you're in the other part of the city and will require at least a couple trips back and forth to get all the objectives.

Through my entire 30+ hours with it the game only crashed on me once, in the DLC mission, but there were some minor glitches with interaction controls not working until a game is reloaded. The graphics and performance are quite satisfactory.

Why an 8/10 for a game with "more of the same, but more accessible" as its driving force? Nostalgia, I guess. However small, Deus Ex M. D. is still a chapter in the universe even if it's filler.

P.S.: Breach does not seem like an overly interesting game mode. It's different enough from the main game but too much of an F2P experience with random booster packs and single use modifier cards. Maybe that's where the "we all hate microtransactions" part comes in, but let's be realistic - nobody bought this game for Breach.

    First up, Value for money.

It definitely fails my £1 per hour of gameplay = true value of the game, test. The game costs £40 but is only 25 hours long. However, fans of this kind of game will definitely play it more than once so for them it would be good value for money.

    Plot

The plot for this game clearly takes place some time before Deus Ex 1 and references many NPCs that later appear in the Original game.

Unlike normal presequels this is rather well done and builds up the backstory for the original leaving you wanting to load up Deus Ex 1 right after finishing Mankind Divided.... but that 20 minute credit list spoils that moment.

Unlike Human Envolution, this game does take the original DX1 plot alot further than just argumentations. I could ignore Dx Invisible War (which is a farce) and even DX Human Evolution and just play Mankind Divided and then Deus Ex 1 and not feel like I missed anything vital.

However i recommend ignoring Deus Ex Invisible war, it really is a terrible game and starting with Human Evolution, then Mankind Divided and finally at this point... Deus Ex 1...

I suspect there will be another game made to fit between Mankind Divided and DX1, it feels like it but I am hoping for a DX1 remake at some point now they have perfected the gameplay and level designs.

    The DX1 camparision.

All previous Deus Ex sequels failed to meet Deus Ex 1s standards in some way. DX Invisible war was just farce and I like to pretend it simply does not exist. DX Human Evolution got the core game play right and improved on it, but the levels let it down.

Because of that, DX fans had gotten used to Deus Ex sequels not living up to the original.

So what made the original so great ?

Well, lots of choice, gun ho, none lethal, hacker... you could choose how you played the game, though it nearly always ended as a gun fight in the end. Lots of great levels too, my personal favourite was Hong Kong in the original and I still recommned players play the original even today.

How does Deus Ex Mankind divided compare to that classic ?

Honestly... it completely blows it away in every single area.

Seriousy, this game beats the original Deus EX 1 hands down.

Its levels are better, the characters are better, the choices work all the way through the game and not just in the first half of the game. There are very real consiquences for the choices you make so you cannot have your cake and eat it, you have to choose a path thats constantly changing and giving you more options on how to proceed.

I for example took the none lethal approach but at times I just had to load up my shot gun and go gun ho because some levels, whilst possible to complete as a none lethal player, where far easier to complete with a shot gun in my hand.

Others where easy to complete in a none lethal manner, so using weapons made it harder to win.

In the end a combination of skills proved best, though the game fully supported all the choices I chose and was very well balanced.

I played though the game on what appeared to be a fairly normal difficulty and had no real problems once I realised most boss fights had the solution to the boss on the level with the boss. You just have to go and search.

I especially liked the last boss fight which I finished with a sneaky hack.... so do not think you have to Go Ho it.... you dont.... go searching.... you will be surprised :)

The Original Deus Ex did not do this in the last half of the game, it was a pure shooter by then.

Even ammo vs enemies matters, some enemies cannot easily be tranquilised, others needed emp ammo to stun them to give you a chance to destroy them with conventional ammo without being shot dead your self. The none lethal take down does not work all the time either and some enemies need multiple tranqs to drop.

Then we have Breach, a game that is included in Mankind Divided. You can find Breach levels through out the Mankind Divided game and unlock more of Breach at Mankind Divided's main menu. Breach is separate from Mankind Divided but part of it, rather complicated to explain and I may have gotten the details wrong here but this is called going the extra mile and counts as one of several extra miles the devs went in this game. You can also find triangles that you scan with your phone to unlock things in the phone game, not something that interests me but still cool. Also the DLCs tha

I'm about 30 hours in to my first play-through and so far it hasn't been a "pay to win" experience, nor have I had any crashes/performance issues. It's been an enjoyable game, maybe not fun as the original DE or DE/HR, but still a good DE experience that I plan to play through more than once, so it's worth it to me.

I will agree with the few that complain that the story is pretty unforgettable - I get the sense that there are sequels planned in the future that will expand on the story and hopefully give it more depth. Don't buy in to all the crying about micro-transactions though: I'm playing through on the game's "hard" difficulty in stealth mode and can easily maintain a surplus of Praxis Points (the points you use to buy/improve skills). I'll try it in more of a shooter/combat heavy mode next play-through and will update my review if that changes things.

As in past DE games, you can discover many options for completing your missions. Hacking, sneaking (my God they make very large and sturdy ducts in the DE universe!), parkour-ing your way around obstacles - there is always an option.

Inventory space is still very limited, but not to the point where I feel that I can't carry everything I need to succeed - just enough to wish I had more space to care more things that I'd just sell later. But since money seems abundant (since I rob every carport, safe and drawer I can open), this isn't a huge issue.

The graphics are average - the characters all look like they're wearing too much makeup or something. The environments are nice to look at though; they did a great job imagining a near-future Prague, and many of the areas within. The sound/voice acting is above average - convincing accents and emotions, certainly nothing immersion-breaking there.. I haven't had a single performance issue yet so I don't agree that this is a "bad port".

I'd say my true score would be 8 of 10, but to compensate for the whiners I'm adjusting it up to 10.

    2. Microtransactions

I never made a Square Enix account and was never prompted with any microtransactions so this didn't affect my experience.

My only complaint excluding the story would be the multiplayer mode Breach. From their marketing I figured out it was an actual multiplayer mode where players fight each other using Deus Ex gameplay. But when I tried it I realized it was a Single player mode with Online leaderboards. Not realy multiplayer in my book. But Deus Ex for me is not a multiplayer experience so I don't really care it sucks.

At the writing of this review, in fact the day of the review, a patch is finally out that has alleviated some of the technical issues. The game would suffer from huge drops in FPS, from 60 to 7 or 8 with no warning or apparent reason, forcing you to quit and restart and in some cases even completely rebooting your PC to resolve memory leaks. Despite these technical issues, Mankind Divided is a great Deus Ex Game . For those who are saying its short they are robbing themselves of the full experience - you really should do all of the side quests and take your time, explore and drink in everything that the game has to offer and you will be playing upwards of 40 plus hours - I played for over 60 hours and loved every minute of it. Had it launched without the technical issues this game would have easily scored a 9 for me.

TLDNR: If you like great tactical stealth/combat games, you will love this game. If you want to run and gun, you should look elsewhere. Otherwise this is well worth your time and your money in my opinion.

GRAPHICS: Beautiful game to look at, very immersive (when not plagued by the technical issues).with the exception of HORRIBLE CLIPPING ERRORS. Jensen's face, neck and hair would constantly clip through his collar and that drove me insane - very immersion breaking and odd looking.

SOUNDTRACK: Awesome score that is well orchestrated and adds tons to the atmosphere.

SOUND: Excellent sound effects and source to reception recognition, which is very important in stealth and tactic oriented games.

LEVEL DESIGN: Excellent level design with multiple paths and approaches to every mission including all side missions.

GAME PLAY: Excellent controls that can be reassigned, good shooting mechanics, excellent stealth mechanics and a lot of player choice and it avoids the use of "boss" battles that were a bit of a hinderance to Human Revolution. Just simply a great game to play.

If you like RPG atmospheric cyberpunk stealth shooters you should absolutely play this game.

A few words about the port. As with the previous game the interface is barely functional with keyboard and mouse. Mouse hover is not understood, only mouse-in because only that directly maps to selecting things with a controller. Drag and drop doesn't work, it's click to drag and click again to drop. *Sigh*. Default FoV is simply -wrong- for a typical PC setup. It should not be 60-something degrees, but at least 80-something. Is it really too much to ask that you set defaults appropriate to the platform Eidos? I ran into a game-breaking bug too (travelling to Mission 14), apparently i'm not the only one that got this. Reloading an earlier save and skipping side missions worked, but man...

Despite all these negatives, this franchise still presses all my buttons. It's still well worth playing.

Believe this: the game is good. The plot can be difficult to follow, yes. There are hanging/unresolved subplots, yes. The stealth and non-lethal gameplay is fantastic, yes. There is ALWAYS a non-lethal, non-combat approach, yes. Is it shorter than I hoped it would be, yes. It is possible to complete the game without killing ANYBODY (even the final boss can be taken down non-lethally), yes. There are microtransactions, yes, but guess what? YOU DO NOT NEED THEM. Forget about microtransactions in this game.

If you like the last Deus Ex, if you like stealth gameplay, if you like convoluted and difficult to follow plotlines, if you like any of that even just a little then you'll like this game.

Game is amazing. Atmosphere and location is well done. You can stealth or go guns blazing as you desire, however since this is a Deus Ex game you will get more satisfaction from a stealth approach imo. Stunning visual and amazing story. Levels are very well designed for a perfect stealth experience but giving the user the choice to play also in combat mode. All those augs make you feel so powerful that sometimes I feel sorry for the enemies! This is a very nice addition to the Deus Ex Universe and I am not disappointed at all for the long wait!

I've waited a long time for this title to come, in fact I was a huge fan of Deus Ex since the very first game.
I can live with the fact the game was launched poorly optimized, but the fact that this game comes with microtransactions disgust me so much that Deus Ex is dead for me. I can' t support a game that has full price with microtransactions inside.

The DLC issue. The same as it goes for microtransactions. Get over it. We ourselves are the cause of this. This will not change any time soon.
The performance. Unfortunately this port is not the best I have seen. Had to update video drivers, lower a few settings here and there and wait for the latest patch.
Otherwise it is a great game so far. Give it a chance.

    Update:
After 92 hours I have spent in this game I can tell You this game has flaws. A very short and abruptly ending main story ('To be continued'), small amount of 'badass' takedowns, horrible hacking (many of those locks seem to be not tested at all), a few bugs, performance issue in past.
But that seems as a small price to pay for all the amazing things You get:
Visuals (technologies):9/10 (lip-sync is poor though)
Visuals (style-wise): 99/10 (no, I am not mistaken - it is this good)
Music: a less expressive and noticeable, more like an ambient, still a 9.5/10
Sound: Deep, rich and variate sound 9/10
    Replay-ability: a 10/10, no doubt

One thing that I want everyone to understand is that it is clear that Square-Enix (the publisher) did not give enough funds to produce this game. It is clear that people in Eidos Montreal are amazingly talented, but a game of this caliber needs a lot more. Something tells me this is exactly why the main story is so short.
What I am trying to get through to You? Go buy it. Please. Every time we are avoiding buying a complex but a bit flawed game, we make sure this game has less chances to stay alive and get better for the good of all of us. Understand and remember that. We are 'voting' using our own money. Good time of day to You all. Signing out.

Now I see there are a slew of negative reviews being posted by users on this game. My guess as to why they are being generated; well a few guesses: This game uses Denuvo, which is very hard to crack, so people are fed up they can't play because they don't want to buy the game. The micro transactions are lame (but a trainer or cheatengine solves that problem). The ending of the game leaves the story incomplete--I'm guessing the planned DLCs are going to tie it up--which ya, is a bit lame. As for people complaining about the port, I'm running the game on PC and I haven't had one single issue. So far, I haven't even seen a bug. Not one. Which in today's world, is quite impressive.

All of this said, this is a very well made, very fun game. I would give the game an 8 if it weren't for the fact that this review is being spammed by low score posting trolls. A 10 is my way of balancing a little

As for the game itself, it's fantastic. The graphics aren't what I'd consider to be up to par for this current gen, but really now, what does that really matter? It doesn't. They're more than good enough.

Gameplay, it's Deus Ex. It's a beautiful cyberpunk world with a mix of action and stealth. It's a blast to play.

Voice acting this time around is much better. Jensen has a bit more flavor in his voice over HR, he's still a grade A badass.

Story isn't bad. It could be a tad more robust, but hey, whatever. It's good.

Overall, a really solid buy. Just ignore the blubbering idiots and play it for yourself.

I had no technical problems with the game. I was playing on a Nvidia GTX970 with a SSD. I did not install any Nvidia optimization software (In fact I disabled the update system because it was eating my bandwidth)

The only problem I had was with the story. Something about the whole conflict between augmented and non-augmented peoples seems off: Shouldn't augmented people be better than
non-augmented people, and therefore be at the top of the food chain?

A lot of the same problems remain from DE3, NPC's faces look like putty, takedowns and other actions require janky cut-scenes, and the augments energy system is just too wonky. I played 90% of the game using no biocells to recharge, and then burned all of them in the final mission, similarly with all of my excess hacking software. It's a bit too easy to stockpile inventory.

There's clearly plenty of room for DLC and the devs could easily add hours of gameplay by just sticking in a couple lines of dialogue and an objective here or there. There are several well-detailed environments that do not see much action in the game, and they felt a little underutilized. You could easily add in several side quests to Dubai, the research facility, Golem City, and the finale to give the game more depth and length.

Definitely had a great time, I'm going to pick up the DLC and do another playthrough once that drops. Default difficulty is probably a bit too easy for someone who has played Deus Ex before; I wish there were a bit more of a challenge when taking the non-lethal approach (the stun gun is pretty much easy mode).

Personally, I'd give a slight edge to Human Revolution, but on the whole, I found this sequel to be a satisfying experience. Where Human Revolution's story was more dramatic and epic in its tone, I think Mankind Divided is more subdued in its setting. The Prague city hub is a showcase of excellent art design and worldbuilding, supplemented by some great ambience by composer McCann. While the main story may have felt somewhat short, the side missions were quite well done and easily made up the bulk of the content. At times, they kind of reminded me of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines with all the investigative elements and detective work.

Gameplay wise, it feels quite similar to its predecessor. While lethal combat options are available, it's obvious that stealth is the intended way to go for almost all in-game scenarios. You do get access to some new augs and weapon mods, but these don't make much difference to the gameplay formula.

I already alluded to before that the story felt a bit short and didn't really progress the overarching plot all that much, so I think that's something that could've been done better. In addition, there are some low-res textures here and there, and the technical performance on PC is somewhat underwhelming given the visual fidelity. The game doesn't look bad per se, but it definitely doesn't blow you away with its graphics. The game also suffers from some backtracking, especially in the late game.

    2. when after a while you encounter something of a mid-level boss fight like in its predecessor: the game is finally over. Ups!

    3. Micro-transactions and small portions of a separate game: no fun. Period. And most of all:
    4. no story. Yes, I know, there's one, but it's not intense. It's not DX like. The fate of the world is not to be decided ... There's nothing that will get your thoughts moving. All in all the story is too easy to see through and doesn't surprise much.

DX: MKD has its strong moments. When you can play detective in one side mission (that's a fresh perspective on Adam Jensen and to the game-play). When you have to decide what to do and which mission not neglect. The graphics and European setting in Prague. That's nicely done! But will I play it a second time or a third time or forever, like I did with the first and third DX? No. I will un-install it like the second installment of the series.

It seems, that only the uneven parts of the games are living up to the original. So number five (the next one) should be much better again. Fingers crossed, but I won't hold my breath.

So if you enjoy the games I enjoy and dislike the ones I dislike, you may enjoy this game if:

Like you immerse yourself and explore. If you love a super well crafted atmosphere without grinding crafting and other time sinks. I hate all that. It's pointless and doesn't add much to my personality. You become what you consume these days... If you want fast action don't buy.

Also, if you enjoy absolutely mind blowing level designs BUY immediately this game! If you love the art of blade runner BUY! The atmosphere and choice behind situating the game in Prague is fresh! The focus on small connected short stories over epic plots is fresh! I think..

Buy if you also read books! Reading text in this game and exploring is amazing. Experience the world itself. It's intimate, it's not action opera (like most fps and rpg today). It's just a little agent tv series with cyborgs. That's how I see it and I love it.

When I played I did not kill a single person, and I genuine cared about the plot and my choices. There are not many characters in the game you speak with: and I love it! Again, it's intimate if you take your time to feel the atmosphere and enjoy. If you wanna gun and blaze your experience is not gonna be good. I also enjoy the parallel to current right wing racism in Prague in reality and the references to the Russian intrusion of Eastern Europe right now. This game is in SUBTLE and indirect ways a reference to a lot of things today, and that is very moving for me to experience. It does not through its nuances in your face, you have to think and explore the game yourself and know about real world developments, from abandoned Eco futuristic infrastructures in the middle east today to tech politics globally and extreme racism and right wing politics in Prague right now ( in reality). In this way the game is very mature and intelligent! First fps ever actually..

Stealth is the way to go. Play it that way because it forces you to look. If your the objective score kinda action gamer the game will bore you.

Performance: Okay first off. Performance issues? No idea because I run the game on my work station equipped with 4.3 ghz six core and gtx 1070. I run all ultra 60 fps.

You should also know: this game is optimized for a 4ghz machine with four cores and a top tier graphics card from 4 years ago, aka. PlayStation 4. You should also know the PlayStation version basically run this game at 30 fps on low settings. Perhaps it is a little worse optimized for PC. But.. Unless you have a machine faster than PS4 run the game at low. When you scale upwards, medium looks way better than ps4 and ultra looks **** killer! They use a combination of low poly models with great textures for clutter and high texture models for important stuff, that's how you optimize!

If you run less than 980 GeForce there is no way you can run upcoming fps games at ultra. People mention Witcher 3. To me that game looks really bad but the scale makes up for it. However I can tell you Witcher 3 includes a bunch of cheese ways of giving e illusion of good quality, they clutter the game with crap models so much you don't notice. In comparison the clutter of Mankind divided looks gorgeous, from leaves to wires, newspapers etc.

On ultra, this game is a beauty. Cutscenes look like crap in comparison, and I am really happy to experience the first game besides Star Citizen that can push my rig.

Atmospheric effects are superb! The craft and storytelling within the environment itself is so clever and rich nothing currently compare, it has so many nuances.

Dlc and preorder: Well... Every bad review in here are all by the preorder crowd... I beat the game not shopping a single time and I did all missions but one. Just play the freaking game and only preorder if your a fan and want some kind of comic book or action figure. Never preorder ver because of in game stuff: it will always be fluff. Just enjoy the art.

I'll buy and future expansion for sure but I never ever buy random dlc crap. Avoid that and have an absolutely stunning experience.

    Game is gorgeous.

Mankind Divided is excellent but felt disappointing and left a bad aftertaste.
Instead of delivering an enjoyable ride with a dynamic and rich story, the game focused on promoting it's unpublished sequels by stalling the main quest with filler and cliff hangers.
For a game with a universe that has a magnitude that rivals the one of Half-Life, to deliver a the same amount of story of Doom

Fantastic game. Everything about it is just great. Take your time and really explore every locale. It's worth it. Everything in this game is well made and expertly put together.

Anyway I came here to say to heck with you square enix, and to heck with your **** DLC/microtransaction practices.

I loved the last Deus Ex. I haven't played this game, but I've read dozens of reviews now. Microtransactions? Installing apps to your phone and scanning things in game? Selling your data? No thanks. I can't support this and will fight to lower the score as far as it can go.

Once again, Deus Ex exceeds my expectations where storyline, detail, and science are concerned. Every dev team should put this much detail and effort into their games. With that said, I think the micro transactions and day1 DLC are disgusting and I'm seriously considering never giving my money to Eidos or Square Enix again. It's a real shame. I scored it a 10 because we're rating the game here. If I were rating the companies involved it would be a 2. Expand

People are mad about microtransactions. Transactions that you don't have to buy unless you want to basically cheat to win. If they had spent their time just playing the game and not all up in the microtransaction store then they wouldn't be giving this game a 0. Idiots.

While I hate micro-transactions, and I cannot fathom why the developers thought that was a good idea, I love the Deux Ex series and this is much better than the 2010-era version. Had a great time, one of the best games I've played in the last couple of years.

Great game, though it has some cons compared to DE: HR. Earlier it had pretty bad optimisation for PCs, now it's ok and the game is really cyberpunk RPG gem.

I had never played Dues Ex before.

The sandbox you get to play in so small, which wouldn't be a problem if there was more to do.
Breaking through walls, and gas breathing upgrades rarely came in handy.

Felt really short and really boring.

But doing that flies in the face of what the Deus Ex games have always been about - exploring, finding interesting ways of getting past obstacles and adapting.
I have been a fan of this franchise from day one, and I fell in love with the Deus Ex universe when I first played the original game on a PC Gamer demo disk years ago - with the exception of Invisible War - and for me both his game and Human Revolution carry the torch well. Neither of them have quite reached the standard set by the original, but I would be interested to see this taken to it's logical conclusion and for the studio to eventually come full circle and remake the original at some point in the future.

The cover mechanics are a little bit strange to get used to at first - but I use the side buttons on my mouse for those functions, so that could just be me. The shooting, stealth and aug side of things is near-perfect though, for me.

Performance wise - I haven't had a single issue bar a couple of odd framerate drops. This game is a bit of a memory-hog though, 3.5gb+ is usually being eaten up while playing. I am running an i7 3820, GTX 980ti, 16gb RAM and the game is installed on an SSD.

My only real complaint was with the pre-order DLC, but having actually played the game now I am not particularly bothered. All it does is bring down the items given in game to a similar level to it's predecessor. Consumables are single use, weapons and augs are available for every playthrough!

One thing that I truly do not understand is why people are moaning about the in game store. Yes, it is a little bit annoying in a single player game but the game is balanced so as you do not need it. It is purely there for the sort of people who either have more money than sense, or want to complete the game a little faster. Have some self control and just don't use it, maybe?

In conclusion, I can't wait for the DLC to be released and for the next game! Now, to start playthrough number three - you gotta love New Game+! :)

Sure, it has microtransactions, but i never felt i missed anything. It doesn't require grinding to experience and quite frankly, those microtransactions are totally unneeded to enjoy the game. Not enough reason to metabomb this. I understand why those kids do this, as it is a terrible business practice, but come on, the game is phenomenal, give it some slack. Due to your actions, we may never see a sequel!

And this leads me to its only fault : A cliffhanger ending. This is the only thing legitimately "bad" about this game, it doesn't answer many of the questions you have at the end of the game, and it clearly will in a future title. Let's hope this future titles happens, because this game is AWESOME!

There is almost nothing you can complain about regarding the Mankind Divided gameplay. To achieve a greater score new Deus Ex lacks a better story and the possibility to "turn off" Czech language. [Issue#267]

Despite the "Can't stop the progress" tagline, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is pretty much a rehash of the previous game.
