Rebuilt from the ground up in every way, Destroy All Humans! (2020) puts every other remaster on notice -- this is how it’s done.

Destroy All Humans is a fantastic, faithful experience. Both older fans and new fans will find a lot of enjoyment here and hopefully we will see a lot more of Crypto’s antics going into the new generation.

It may be a bit of a stretch to see if any game holds up after 15 years, but Destroy All Humans! is still a mindless romp of manic mass destruction that excels in the replayability department. A brilliantly polished slice of nostalgia, Destroy All Humans! knows exactly where to focus its energies with its silly story, updated gameplay and a graphical overhaul that is light-years ahead of the original invasion.

In the end, Destroy All Humans! seems like the perfect palate cleanser in between games like The Last of Us: Part 2 and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. It isn't going to win any game of the year awards, but then again, it isn't trying too. It is simply here to make jokes, give players a power fantasy that involves invading wise-cracking aliens and allow people to live in their favourite b-grade invasion flick. By those goals, Destroy All Humans! is a resounding success and people looking for a light-hearted bit of fun should look no further.

Looking at my time with this game, I tried to decide if this was a good title or the rose-tinted glasses, and I think it’s a little of both. I really enjoyed this game as I think any new player coming into this game would, but there were also things about the game that I forgot about that I didn’t care for. Overall, this is a great title, and I will be returning to this game long after this review.

I’m glad that, among the slew of remakes and remasters, this alien adventure still stands out. It hasn’t lost any of its magic and, who knows, it may have opened the door for a possible sequel.

THQ Nordic brings back a cult of the early 2000s to the screens. Destroy all humans! that's all you remembered, with even more.

Destroy All Humans! comes back, 15 years after the original release of the game, offering a sandbox experience that still feels fresh, original and full of fun. With some gameplay changes, a major visual overhaul and all of the original charm, Destroy All Humans! is still an alien treasure.

Playing Destroy All Humans! is like watching an old alien movie in a summer drive-in. The movie may not be a masterpiece, but atmosphere and context play a fundamental role in enjoying the experience. So the not particularly clever mission design and the not-so-inspired mechanics feel a little less annoying when you are playing a game that makes you laugh, does not take itself seriously and does not require a month of vacation to be finished.

Overall, the Destroy All Humans! Remake is a fun trip down memory lane, very fun in fact. And whilst the crude and immature humor appealed more to my younger self than now, it’s still a ridiculously entertaining ride. The remake’s biggest saving grace is nostalgia, and finally bringing this old classic to the PC system. Whilst fans of the original will be very pleased with the nostalgia trip and additional new content, even if it isn’t quite substantial.

Destroy All Humans! is a damn fine B-game from an era when publishers bothered to fund such things. I wish there were more new games taking these bizarre, silly swings at ridiculous ideas with sizable budgets. For now, I guess, remakes from a different time will have to suffice.

I never got to play the older version because I didn't have much exposure to popular games when I was younger. I only played whatever I couldI never got to play the older version because I didn't have much exposure to popular games when I was younger. I only played whatever I could get my hands on. So being able to play this classic with basically 1:1 remake of the original's content is a refreshing experience for me.

So I played this game on both Keyboard & Mouse as well as an XBOX One Controller, and I have to say that K&M is the best way to play this. The UFO controls are wonky on controllers. I like to play 3rd person games on a controller because they usually don't require much precision aiming, so that was a bit of a disappointment. There are also challenges in exploration mode that are hard to get a 3-star rating on if you're playing with a controller. That can get annoying very fast. I also wish they had custom save points for missions because if you fail an objective you have to restart the mission most of the time, and sometimes you will be loaded back to a checkpoint but that doesn't help as much as you'd expect. So those are my two issues with this game.

That being said, the game has so much charm! You can tell this was a passion project. I love the story, characters, humor, and the mindless cartoonish violence. I sincerely hope that THQ greenlights a remake for the sequel. I give this game an 8/10.

Note: Pay no heed to the inevitable "this game is offensive to my modern sensibilities" people. They will always find something to be offended by even if its decades old. I'm glad that the developers didn't change the game in a detrimental way.
