I'm glad the bots praising this game like the Second Coming didn't persuade me to actually buy this. Because it kind of sucks. Somewhat "in depth" review to follow. PVP and strikes can be fun, but get boring if that's all you can do after some point.

I'm glad the bots praising this game like the Second Coming didn't persuade me to actually buy this. Because it kind of sucks. Somewhat "in depth" review to follow. PVP and strikes can be fun, but get boring if that's all you can do after some point.

Positives: It's an interesting world to behold. Only Visually though. The designs are great, interesting to watch in action and mostly consistent in quality. As i come late in the game, i can't say what state it was in when it first released some years ago, but now it runs like a tight ship. Loading times could be better, but that's minor. Occasional comedic moments were also a plus.

Negatives: It feels like a Freemium Borderlands 2 Clone. Paywall here, Lootbox there. There's a ridiculous level limit that can be reached with 4-6 hours of grinding Public Events. I hadn't touched the main quest and yet i was already level 20 in vanilla. The story verges on nonexistent as it has no interesting characters or anything not seen in better games. There's a big bad guy that has a big weapon and wants to destroy the sun. Great. Super. Problem is, i finished the main quest in less than 2 hours and the last boss was an actual joke to beat. Also, they don't really expand on the story. Or maybe they do, in the 40$ DLC. or in the 59.99$ DLC, i can't really know as i didn't buy into this obvious scam. I also can't fault Bungie for what looks like blatant Publisher meddling. What Bungie made looks great and works on many levels. Too bad it's been hacked to pieces to milk more money out of the average consumer. Activision should take a step back for a minute and reevaluate their position on making a profit. There are ways to do it without having to resort to "get rich quick" scams involving dubious lootbox methods and constant churning out of half-assed DLCs. Then again, taking into account that Destiny 2 sales were appalingly low, i think they got the message.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My review is completely based off the experience I had on the PS4 and a total play time of around 150+ hours. Don't buy this game, the only selling point is that Bungie nailed the shooting mechanics and settings. They made numerous improvements from the first Destiny but still managed to make a worse experience. The story starts off promising with your guardian losing his/her light and they must leave the last city to go and reclaim their power. This is immediately thrown out the window after the first quest and then becomes a chore of go here and shoot this. It then cultivates into one of the laziest boss battles I have ever seen and has no payoff, at least the cinematic look cool. Then you back into a classic destiny venture of grinding for weapons and armor. However, Bungie this time around put heavy emphasis on the Eververse, Destiny 2's in game vendor for microtransactions. Bungie decided to encourage players to purchase in game loot boxes through extremely shady tactics such as:
Gauging the amount of EXP earned
    Changing shaders to consumable items
Putting a limit on how much loot you earn during their holiday event
    and so on...
This is why I say don't buy Destiny 2, since Bungie doesn't respect their own community and issues more apologies than patches.

the port was amazing with the same solid gunplay as in Destiny 1, but the publisher held this game back far from its full potential. They again should have waited a year before rushing out an unfinished game. The trick to getting your money's worth with Destiny games is to wait a year to buy the full game with all the extra content for $40. They burned their day 1 supporters twice in a row.

    - Extremely poor campaign/story.

    - Short campaign/story.

    - Weapon and armor customisation is limited - you can only make slight adjustments.

    - Content is full of padding and rehashed/reworded quests.

    - Content is repetitive, and similar to stuff found in budget F2P games.

    - Most of the game is empty space, empty corridors and empty buildings, connected by 'rooms' or 'courtyards' of enemies. Again, similar to budget games.

    - It feels like the game has been built as a DLC platform. First DLC being released a couple of months after the main game.

    - The endgame is relatively stale and empty, as other (non professional) reviewers have said. What content has been offered is unrewarding; The stuff that is rewarding is limited to weekly-reset quests.

    Score : a solid 4/10.

Initially exciting gameplay with high production value reminiscent of Halo's golden era, but without a healthy community and strange and empty hub level, the premise of levelling and building your character never seems all that important or even interesting and quickly grows old. All that money and nothing much to show for it. Instead it's a software-as-a-service masquerading as a first person looter shooter that is neither as rewarding or intriguing as it should be and tries to eek out as much money out of the player as possible with content locked behind paywalls (perhaps to recoup the ridiculous amount of money that went in to marketing it) and that's where it all comes crashing down. The graphics are quite nice, but that is about all positive feedback I can give to this game.

The writing is boring, the level design is horrible, absolutely empty levels with some brainless enemies,
they ll just crouch behind cover and do nothing even though you just shot 2 guys next to them...

    1. Enjoys PvP with a slower TTK (time to kill). If you don't enjoy PvP you're going to be disappointed.

Masquerades as an MMO but falls dreadfully short. Emulates some of the worst aspects of latter-day World of Warcraft such as world quests, randomized gear, being constantly showered with irrelevant loot, a "leveling" experience so brief as to be meaningless, a fear of making in-game currency valuable, and an unhealthy obsession with item level undermined by a fear of making item level relevant to gameplay. The result is a game focused on gear which has an uncertain relationship to actual gameplay and sometimes none at all.

The world is small, load times are intrusive, interactions with other players are minimal, and the menus are unnecessarily unwieldy.

On the plus side, many of the guns are well-designed and satisfying to use. Item stats can be customized with a remarkable degree of depth that stands prominently in contrast to the rest of the game's absence of subtlety.

The PvP maps are fairly well designed. You won't find yourself being shot in the back or unable to find cover very often, particularly just as you spawn. The absence of large battles is sorely noted, however.

The game is plagued by "ultimates," following the model of Overwatch/League of Legends/DotA. Periodically players receive an unreasonable increase to their power, which is supposed to be "fun" and to mix up the gameplay. Thankfully, the ultimates in this game are not quite as frequent nor as powerful as the ones found in Overwatch. Whereas in Overwatch you may find that an unpleasantly large proportion of your deaths are caused by someone's ultimate, and that you are generally powerless against someone using their ultimate, in Destiny 2 you will feel that you still have a fighting chance against most ultimates and consequently they will not amount to a majority of your deaths.

As for the the game's story, it is an unmitigated disaster. The writing is inexcusable and frankly embarrassing. The villain is not in the least bit compelling, commanding absolutely no respect whatsoever. An attempt was made to make up for what he lacked in character with sheer bulk, with the end result being a sort of fat, alien Bane recycling lazy dialogue about how he is the bad guy.

The protagonists suffer from a similar flatness of character. Their names are not memorable over the course of the entire campaign, even the "funny robot" who is meant to be the one guy you actually remember. The proliferation of "token minorities" among the cast stands as testament to their absence of value as narrative vehicles.

The abundance of cutscenes during the campaign is painful, particularly when considering their high-budget nature and their simultaneous complete lack of meaningful narrative. If the campaign had had a handful of lazily-crafted cutscenes to go along with their lazy story it would have been easier to forgive the campaign as merely an unwelcome tutorial, but the barrage of high-budget cutscenes instead leaves one with an impression of the vast waste of resources that went into this uninspired portion of the game. Perhaps the game could have been $10-$20 cheaper if only this embarrassment of a campaign had not left the drawing board.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, the good: The game looks amazing and the music is great. Now the bad: Literally everything else. The plot is shallow, filled with characters that are generic, lifeless, and utterly devoid of any reason as to why you might care about them. The main baddy, Gaul, has no motivation for anything he does other than "he's a bad guy", no backstory, and no reason for doing anything he does. He spends the entire game telling everyone who's around during his cutscenes about how he wants to be "chosen" by the Traveller to receive the light, and then at the end of the game, decides **** it, Ima take the light like everyone's been telling me to the entire game" with absolutely no acknowledgement about this sudden and drastic change of heart nor any justification. The NPC protagonists are lifeless, flat, 2-dimensional objects who serve no purpose except as narrative devices to further what can only generously be called a plot. The voice acting is awful, with the exception of Nathan Fillion, and even he is forced to work with bad, non-sensical writing (robots don't eat, so why a joke about shooting the big baddy in the head and then eating a sandwich?). The strikes are boring and linear. Run here, kill some of them, get to the end, kill a boss that is just a scaled up version of one of the thousands of baddies you've killed up to that point. Rinse, repeat. The gameplay consists of just putting as many bullets downrange as possible while occasionally meleeing when things get too close. There is never any sense of tension or risk in this game, because you can either respawn immediately after you die thanks to having "The Light", or respawn 10 feet further back because the game implemented a checkpoint system for areas where "respawning is limited." Your choice in character class does not matter, as it won't have any impact on how you play the game. Your weapon choice has virtually no impact on the tactics you must employ (as the only viable tactic is "shoot lots of bullets into boring enemies and melee if they're close enough"), and nor does your skill choice, as the skills are on such a long cooldown that they don't impact the gameplay either.

PVP is just terrible, missing basic features like an in-game scoreboard, the ability to choose what type of PvP contest you engage in, the matchmaking has no regard for power level or skill, and power weapons/power abilities are so unbalanced as to simply be "I win fights for 10 seconds" buttons. This results in a PvP where games are almost always decidedly one-sided. The game doesn't even do basic things as punish people who choose to leave PvP in the middle of a match.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this game feels like it was made by a committee of people who don't really like video games, and instead of opting for challenge or to take any risks, just mashed together a bunch of elements that "video games are supposed to have". The result is an undirected mess with neither heart, soul, or anything interesting to say. But it is very pretty.

Completely Honest Review (MUST READ FOR PEOPLE PLANNING TO BUY THE GAME)

Destiny 2 is not a sequel, its more of a reworked/reboot of Destiny 1 addressing all the issues that players had problems with and fixing them but in doing so, also introduced new problems in the process. To be blunt, I believe that this game is not worth your time or your efforts and is a very subpar game overall. Discussed below are the different aspects of the game, explaining whether the aspect is a strong point or a weak point of the game. I highly advise you read to the end of the review.

    Gameplay

The gameplay within Destiny 2 is one of the best in games currently and certainly the best within its genre being a Loot Shooter. Bungie has outdone themselves much like the first game with their intriguing "Supers" and abilities featured in the the three classes in the game: Warlock, Titan and Hunter. The mobility and verticality is something that feels familiar to players of COD Black Ops 3, Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare and Titanfall 1&2. This is accentuated further during the "Supers" where you truly feel powerful and almighty which makes for a great experience.

    Animations & Graphics

Again, credit has to be given where it's due, Destiny 2 has some of the best graphics in games today with cool, breathtaking animations that immediately make the user feel godlike and incredibly satisfied with the game.

    Story & Progression

The one extreme down point in Destiny 1 was it's embarrassing lack of story telling and that is something that the devs at Bungie took into consideration when creating Destiny 2. Although the story in Destiny 2 is a lot more comprehensive, it's by far one of the most cliche story lines in a game with themes recycled from other games as well as movies.

Progression wise, Destiny is one of those games that really gets you excited in the early stages in the game as any game should, with the early progression really keeping players glued to their machines, being as it's extremely rewarding and attractive. It was refreshing to see the new take on how the player obtains their "Super" ability through the broken shards of the Traveller where you complete a short mission to activate your unique 'relic' depending on the three subclasses being Arc, Void or Solar.

    Looting

The big boy of the game, one of the main reasons you play the game and quite possibly the ONLY reason you might've thought when considering the game. So, has it been done well? Yes but to a certain extent. Compared to the first game, where legendary weapons and armour were a chore to get and exotics were borderline impossible at times, Destiny 2 eliminates that by giving all players a fair chance to obtain the weapons they want without all the hassle. Early on, you will find how frequent legendaries drop and the few rare (but not extremely rare) chances that even exotics drop for you, which gets you hyped and yearning for more. Even within the main story itself exotics are given as mission rewards. Depending on your class, you will earn armour pieces unique to it with one mission giving you the rather difficult option between 3 formidable exotic weapons. As a consequence, this quickly becomes the downfall of the game as you realise the challenge, as in the REAL grind for exotic weapons, has been snatched away and soon, it doesn't matter what you earn from the game as everything stops feeling epic, given how often you obtain high rated gear. It was a great gesture removing the encrypted engrams that really sent people over the edge in the first game, but it really doesn't help the game's case when you spend hours grinding to obtain exotic engrams only to get DUPLICATES, meaning getting the same weapon/armour piece you already own. The exotic quests are nothing special, just a different way of eliminating foes and earning your "badass" exotic weapon at the end of it and so don't be too excited.

    DLC

Notably, the date of this review is extremely late and rightfully so as I just had to write this review upon the announcement of the Destiny Forsaken Expansion, priced at $55 AUD with $30 paid updates under their so called "Annual Pass". If you take into account the original price of the game being $70 itself with the two already released expansions - Curse of Osiris & Warmind - priced at $30 for both, the total price comes to $185 AUD. I'm sorry but this unacceptable and rather shameful to see how much money both Activision and Bungie are expecting from fans for just ONE game. It's outrageous that payments for increased end game content is now a necessity for these two companies where other games who work on a free to play model such as Warframe are offering their fan base rich, sustained and FREE updates.

    Overall

Score = 5/10 for the game before Forsaken
3/10 for the game after Forsaken

I would say just don't get the game but you're free to choose how you spend your money, just be satisfied. For your own sake.

Also the more I played the more I realised how D2 has far too much time-limited content. This isn't fun they're taking this same bad decision further.

As someone who started playing in 2022, I have to say that it was fun for the first 50-100 hours. After that, the game got repetitive. And to keep things exciting, instead of getting stuck in the same old routine, I needed to buy extra content.(441 hours and 100% completion)

Destiny 2 was good and quite funny... but then... here it comes the DLC Paywall for vanilla content of Destiny 2: if you own Destiny 2 and you don't buy the DLC Curse of Osiris you can throw the game in the trash. ARE YOU SERIOUS Bungie? I need to pay another 20 bucks for a recycled copy paste - and 2 hours campaign after paying the full price of the main game?

    Destiny 2 has poetical.
    for now its a 3.0
No public CHAT FOR PC! -5 points. This is honestly the BIGGEST problem with this game. You cannot find any group to play anything harder then heroic strikes. Everything else you need a team and you can't find one in game. The online system is so BAD, its totally disconnected. You have to ad randoms to friend list then invite to group.

PC players are banding this game for this reason alone. Lack of content does suck, but when you can even play the content they have because you cna't find a group in game sucks way more.

The game it self is a solid shooter, but for kids. If you want anything better go play the Division. in 1.8 its about 10x better for content and social aspects. if the Division was a action FPS like destiny 2, I would never even bother with destiny 2 in the first place.

The great story ? what ? who cares about story its a grind game. if any one plays this game for story you have low standards.

to bad I have to give this a solid shooter such bad score. The technical aspect is a 9 or a 10! but the social design is total garbage made for sensitive like kids that should go play Nintendo.

I've poured maybe 50 hours of repetitive gameplay into this with 0 growth as I refuse (and frankly don't understand) how to use their billing system as everything seems to have 4 or more separate charges to work!

    Cons:
-if you have an AMD processor, the game is constantly crashing. when you do crash, you can't rejoin the activity you were in when it happened.
-the interface is a trash fire. maybe this is acceptable on consoles, but it sucks on PC. you never know when your friends are on or when anyone is trying to talk to you.
-inventory management is better done with third-party web apps. the ingame interface is nearly as bad as vanilla skyrim.
-half the time you find a public event, you are the only one there.
    -the worlds are tiny.
-there is no enemy diversity. there are 4 races, and one of those is reskinned enemies plucked from the other 3.
-all the content is recycled. you do the same **** over and over through the "story", then the "end game content" is replaying that same **** again.
-the story is barely a story. they paid for voice actors, but then they just had who the **** ever write the script. the constant "witty" banter is forced and uncomfortable, but luckily you can ignore it entirely and still make it through the game.
-95% of the time, the different classes are totally indistinguishable from one another. asides from hunters being able to jump but they pay for it in having to wait an hour for health regen to kick in.
-DLC money grab. they cut up the original game and are giving you the other parts as DLC, so you can pay $100 for a game that will never be finished or good.

-mobile application allows you to track your character progression and even manage your equipment. it also helps with the social aspect.

now well go to the negative points

-1 month after release they are going to release a DLC. such a thing should be illegal and is plain cash grab nothing more. Couldn't they wait 1 month with the release and add more content to the game?

-the content of which we speak, where is it? there is very little to do in destiny 2. After youve beaten the campagin you can level up your lightlevel, but wheres the point in that? You don't get stronger by doing that. in fact you even get weaker. I felt much stronger at lightlevel 200 than on lightlevel 300.
in the first 5 days ive leveld 3 characters to max level and reached lightlevel 300 with them. Thats 1 week of content. there's nothing more to do for me except wait for bungie to add paid DLC into the game

-PvP theres 2 modes in Destiny 2. Its 4vs4 or 4vs4. Thats right its 2 modes where you play the same thing. Hey maybe the DLC will ad a 4vs4 mode, i think thats missing. Wheres the deathmatch? wheres the big battles with vehicles from destiny 1? it is the most boring pvp game i've ever played

-Story. If you're into a story that a 12 year old wrote than this game is for you, timetraveling robots, darkness, good vs evil everythings there

theres alot of small things that make this game unbelievably bad, i wont even list them all but things that show laziness and money grabing
-aim assist perks on weapons when theres no aim assist
-exotic gear that does nothing like the darci sniper and lucky pants
-no world chat, no chat at all. you cant talk in this online game to strangers. only to people you're in group with
-there are chests in the game scattered around the world but if you loot them to fast then they'll stop giving you loot.
    -shaders arent reusable

overall i cant recommend this game in this state nor the state after they release dlcs worth 200$
stay away from activision and bungie

Multiplayer PvP is also plagued by bad design decisions that will simply make you stop playing it after a while.

The gameplay is boring. It is the same over and over. You run through a similar, small map. Enemies appear. You shoot the enemies. Your ghost or some of the characters says something cheesy. Enemies appear once again. You shoot them once again. And it just goes like that. I have finished Destiny along with it's expansions, and except for the graphics, Destiny 2 shouldn't be a new game. They have a lot in common, not just the same atmosphere, but also the same gameplay, enemies, map system, quests and all that.

On top of that, the game is a cash grab. Just look into all the frauds the developers have made. For example, they reduced the amount of XP you would normally have received for activities in max level. And they kept it hidden! Why? So it would take you longer to get those bright engrams (loot boxes), and that would increase the chance of you buying them for real money.

So yeah - I am disappointed.

-Not fashion friendly at all!!!, you are stuck with gear stats that support your abilities and weapons, there is no "re-skin or transmog" -system in place to change the gear appearance.

-Armors are just so damn ugly, just plates sticked together for the most part and since base perks and stats for gear is fixed, it's hard to make a character look the way you'd like him.

-You can wear only 1 exotic gear item and use only 1 exotic weapon at a time, all that stuff you farm for is not even being used like in ANY OTHER GAME with rare gear.
Just let us disable/choose one special perk for one piece and it would be fixed if you think is would brake the game which is already broken balance wise...or.. give transmog at least^^

-A lot of pointless/unbalanced ressources/materials, either way too hard to get (enhancement cores, mod components) or worthless without or almost no use (glimmer, baryon boughs...)

-Exotics are WAY TO RARE now, as a new player it will take years now to get them and you're not safe for dupliocates.

-CAPS!!!! Glimmer cap only 100,000. seriously, increase it!!! shaders 50? postmaster already half full in a few weeks !!! like, what?! increase it!!! like all other caps I can't think of right now!

-Rewards are god awful. Here have one of these, here more stuff to dismantle, here two of those, I feel like I'm dipping my little finger in a sea of rewards. constantly picking daily bounties on every planet that also mostly reward very little. Not to mention as somebody with a life, you're not getting much done and alot of the bounties will be left only halft done before reset! They also tell you how to play and not how you want to play!
Imagine shifting all the bountie rewards to missions/strikes/raids/PvP activities....

    Multiplayer:
-Cheaters not only wallhacking and aimbotting but also do DDOS other players during matches in all kinds of modes. I was attacked a few times. Tools/Tutorials are all over the Net!

-Terrible Matchmaking, no Solo queue option for PvP, beginners are getting destroyd by OP builds and clans. I bet they are scared of the already low pvp player base and it really might take time to get a match for both sides, clan (stacks) and solo but at least more "balance if yu can call it"
Right now it's a terrilbe experience!

-Balance is garbage in this game. No skill based PvP at all, supers with semi god mode and kill everything like Call of Duty killstreaks. Out of hunderest of weapons, it feels like only 10 are being used. (snipers, shotguns, hand cannons and a very few rifles like Bygones are meta) everything else is super bad, beginners will need 20 shots and everyone else 1 or 2 shots with his exotic or legendary with god roll, masterworks and mods for it.

-"Level Advandages disabled" in PvP is a lie, good gear being locked behind level 15-20 or a huge grind, you'll notice this easly on your second or third character if you want to jump on it early and test it. There is a indirect level advantage.

-The game feels empty most of the time for being Multiplayer, alot of instances and solo instances in general, way to many emty public events, all you can do is juming back to orbit and going in again in hope the new instance has some players in it.
The singleplayer camainge needs more random matchups like a few missions have already.
Things like Blind Well need alternative matchmaking, same goes for Raids for people that have already completed the it solo and know what they are doing.
Using third party software or websites for finding people is terrible and takes a lot of time for every activity you do, this should never be the case in any multiplayer game.
Also this is not an MMO like some say, 12 player PvP and 9 co-op...? HA!

    Community:
-Very anti-social community, almost no one uses voice or text chat.
Almost no one is willing to help new players with raids or in any other activity!.

-Community being split up with every new DLC/Expansion and the player base is decreasing because of all the past and present failures.

There is no endgame beside the raid which I played through once, but none of the loot feels unique there's no incentive to do it again unless you just like the cosmetic look of the gear to collect.

The PVP or Crucible game modes are terrible. Your lvl doesn't matter and there are only 2 playlists. There is no ranked matchmaking you cant see any of your stats its just mindless shooting. The servers are awful (They hide this fact by not even showing anyone's connection quality) and because the way the weapons/game are balanced you will just run into the same team fights over and over again. The only "fun" I had was playing Trails of the Nine where you try to win 7 matches in a row to get access to a secret social space and better gear, because it felt competitive and you were actually working towards some goal.

Conclusion I spent $90 on this game plus the 2 future DLC's coming out. I love Bungie I played all of the Halo games since I was a little kid and I loved all of them, but I honestly feel scammed buying this game. Maybe my expectations were very high but I felt like I would get a year of content and enjoyment out of this game. Instead they made a washed down casual version of Destiny that isn't really interesting or innovative. 3 points just because the environments and the graphics are good and the game is well optimized.

The story is atrocious. just because it is "better" than destiny 1 doesn't make it good. that's like saying since shark tale for the pc has a better story than sonic 06, its the best game ever made. The coldheart pre order bonus is cool, but you don't actually have to pre order the game to get it. as long as you get any of the "editions" you'll get the gun at the end of the game. speaking of the endgame, there is none. there are three different things to do after the disappointingly short campaign: the raid, the weekly nightfall, and trials. All of these things require you have multiple friends who play the game and haven't stopped already because of how boring it is. the raid takes up a ton of time and trials is extremely frustrating if you don't have the same load out as everyone else in pvp. Literally the only thing I like about this game is the music. It's so **** good if the actual game wasn't even included and it was just the soundtrack I would give it a 10/10. so get your **** together sonic team, and go back to making knack HD.

After 5 months of gmaeplay, I really know what I am talking about.
Situations and moments that are much more frustrating than fun.
Much more PvP events, then PvE events.
No changing of items that comes from Destiny 1.
So much time and money for a Copy and Paste game.
Sorry, but there's nothing that Bungie can do about it.
And nothing will change the fact that they killed their own game.

The regret began as I started getting a variety of errors every now and then, which disconnects and kicks you out of your session. You end up unable to collect rewards, having to redo difficult fights, and retrace your steps through long winding missions over and over. Frustration is an understatement.

While the game itself provides a ton of fun along with amazing art and exciting gameplay, a lot of people seem to be having these error issues. Unlike many developers who listen to their playerbase, work diligently to release fixes, and understand that their fanbase is an asset to the company, Bungie's response always seems to point the fault towards the user end.

There is no reason for a legitimate company to behave in such a shady way as if trying to escape responsibility. Surely this wasn't meant to be some quick money grab scheme of a project. I'm sure the people in the company are not complete devoid of ethics. But until they prove otherwise, DO NOT encourage subpar developers.

You have classes that can sprint and survive 5 headshots and 1 shot melee you, you get one class ult hitting a another in melee for 4 times and still dying 1 shot explosions, you get granade-launcher spawn everywhere.

My biggest problem with Destiny 2 is CONTENT.
I've reached what is in essence, the endgame for Destiny 2. It's only been less than 5 days, and I consider myself a casual gamer. For 60 bucks, you earn yourself a remake of Halo, where instead of fighting Elites, grunts, or brutes, you fight robots (sums up a majority of the antagonists) and mutated naked mole rats for 5 days. That alone should flare a red flag that this lack of content is unacceptable by any company. It feels like a half finished game, where the developers hastily threw in elimination side quests on steroids and called it content. The story itself lasts roughly 6 hours or less depending if you skip through all the action packed cut scenes. Once you run through a few "Public Events", you'll see they all follow the same pattern. Protect this. Move over there. Kill this.
The class and subclass system are over hyped. They are all nearly identical, with differentiating factors being grenades and small stats. The only saving grace for this game is the game play. Again, it essentially feels like a remake of Halo with different lore. Not convinced? Look up Destiny 2 reviews on Youtube by original dedicated Destiny players, and you'll see the same response.
Lets stop companies from pushing out half ass products.

Beautiful to look at and the guns and specials feel great to use. Those are the only things I can say positively about this game, beyond that it is a hollow shell of a game that is focused on players buying bright engrams (Their version of loot boxes). This game is not worth your money or your time.

Returning players know how poor of an effort developer bungie put into this game, tons of features are missing from the core game that were in the original. One of these missing features is heroic strikes, harder missions that are meant to challenge the player in the endgame grind we all loved in the original. They are now selling this as a new feature in the DLC Curse of Osiris (another horrible effort), this DLC was planned for three months after initial release, about a month after the PC release. When destiny releases DLC they lock all of the good features from the core game behind a paywall making the core game almost unplayable.

They have a ton of recycled content in this game such as the famed exotics, don't get me wrong I appreciate classics being brought back but as the best features of the core game is just lazy. The most important gun in PvP is the MIDA multi tool for instance, without it you don't really stand much of a chance in PvP. They told us our vaults and all the old equipment was destroyed and now the new meta is a gun we all had in our vaults... that is so disappointing in a sequel.

When playing the other content such as the raid and public events it just feels like a boring grind, the enemies are too easy, its like they just stand there and wait for you to kill them. Wave after wave you grind the exact same mechanics from the original game and it all for nothing, maybe a token or two. Turn those in and the odds of you getting the same thing you already have are very high. You rarely get anything cosmetic that is very good because that is all locked behind the bright engram system.

The bright engrams are what rattle most of the community to its core, they are blatantly rigging the system to get you to buy them (don't believe me? well, they admitted it). Once you hit level 20 every time you level up you get a bright engram instead, this is a very slow grind however. So slow the community complained so bungie introduced a double XP weekend making them easier to obtain but then secretly slowed down progression the more you played. A user on reddit exposed this and sent the community into an uproar, they apologized and "fixed" it but they actually doubled the amount of XP required to level up and where caught again. A lot of the cosmetic gear is again recycled from the first game, this system is disgusting and should not be tolerated from any game. Three pay models, full priced base game, paid DLC that locks out content a couple months after release (another to follow in another couple of months) and engrams that cost real dollars to buy, this is the sad low point the industry was trending towards.

I will give credit where it is due, this game is beautiful, one of, if not the best looking games out there for sure. The guns feel really great to shoot and player movement is really great. It is just not worth it though, the loot systems, gun mods, changes to PvP and absence of quality strikes make it feeling like it is lacking any real quality gameplay.

Destiny 2 is a failure, a failure to build off of what ended up being such a great game and a failure in providing anything significantly new to what should be a proper sequel. It feels like bungie exploited its old fans loyalty and excitement to make a ton of money with the hopes they could grab a new, casual players to make even more off of. Its great to look at but thats probably best done through screen shoots in this case. This game should be a hard pass for anyone thinking of buying it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have not played Bungie's games since Halo, but if Destiny 2 is anything to tell, I am sorry to see the direction they are going.

Storytelling-wise: It's bad. It's basically Angry Birds. And nothing wrong with that, but whereas Angry Birds leaves out no open questions, Destiny 2 leaves a lot. You would assume Destiny leaves the plot to be uncovered as you progress in the game, but no. Instead, it just more bad layers to it.

I have not played the first Destiny, but as this is the first time the title appears on PC, I would have expected an introduction into the series. I think it's safe to assume many others would be in the same boat with me. But instead, the game does not provide anything to make out the story from the first establishment.

So as far as I know, I am some sort of Jedi, but my powers are drained in the starting cutscene. I am not told what we Jedis do with this power, except kill people. Also, the bad guy has a hostage, but I don't know who the hostage is. As far as I know, he is just another Jedi, but I am not told why I should care.

Because of the narrow and one-sided introduction to my Jedi powers, I can't even tell why I should hate the bad guy. Even if they destroy stars, I am only given one side of the story here. How do I know I, the protagonist, aren't actually the bad guy here? My Jedi powers are only for killing, after all.

Throughout the campaign, I am introduced new characters. It's assumed I already know them. That would be fine, but instead like in Witcher 3, I have absolutely no way to read their backstory.

Gameplay-wise: PvE: You don't benefit from open-world if it's dead. I have yet to find a hidden chest. When it comes to difficulty, as long as you walk, you cant die. You can clear out enemies from a safe distance. The game even incentives you for it, because it's quite efficient. I tried seeing if there's any reason I should rush, such as to skip waves of enemies, but there was not. Progressing in the everlasting tunnels requires you to kill the enemies within.

PvP: I could not fathom how people are so quick to pick up game mechanics. I got my ass handed to me with the hard to aim, but rewarding, handguns on the first day. The last time I mastered anything like that in a video-game took me months of practice. Then I recalled the game has an aim-assistant, which I had disabled.

    ---

The game is well ported into PC. The game looks great, and I did not assume it to run as smoothly.

But that does not save the game. **** baked in butter is still ****.

That being said, I assume there is more to come into this half-baked game in forms of DLC's. But unless the DLC's are outsourced, I would not wait for them. There are many ways to spend your time and money, but unfortunately, Destiny does not offer much for it.

    - Bugs in the tutorial, so I could not finish it, but it is mandatory -.-

Stupid movement of a console game. Runing left or right isn't possible. The character is heavy and agile like a rock.

For luck, the game is free to play ...

When there is more innovation in Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed, you know there was zero effort put into this game, they could've kept all content from Destiny 1 and added new content on top, but they threw it in the trash (Maybe to release in DLC later). This game is pretty on the outside(for marketing it's perfect) and disgusting on the inside(once you actually play, it's obviously just a cash grab). The art is beautiful, but why wouldn't it be? That's all you need to sell a game nowadays to people, pretty graphics and good music.

Obviously if the base game was good, why would anyone buy DLC (thinks bungievision).

This game could've been great, but money. They decided to re-release Destiny and remove everything good about it. It seems that Bungie looked at how The Sims can release a new game with zero features so that they can sell them later as expansions.

However Bungie seems to have forgotten that they are not selling their game to teenage girls. They dumbed down every system, they made all the loot the same, they made it so the "casuals" aren't overwhelmed, but are casuals really as stupid as Bungie thinks? I think they aren't.

Just because your testers are middle-aged men who never played a game in their life, doesn't mean that an average gamer wouldn't be able to figure out how your game works. Even casuals aren't as stupid as this game thinks they are.

I wish any of this meant anything, but in the end, they made their moneys and they will continue their **** business practices until they run out of people who buy their games/micro-transactions.

I am never going to buy anything that has the label Bungie/Activision EVER again. Fool me once... I can do without playing your generic ****.

If the first game was on released today on PC, not a single person would be playing Destiny 2 after finishing the story. That's how empty this game is.

This game also requires knowledge of the first game; if you don't know what happened in Destiny 1 you will have no idea what is going on. Not only is there almost no end-game content, but Bungie is also posed to launch a DLC that users have to pay for in December. Besides a few obvious differences like how they jump, the classes are extremely similar and only differentiate in a few ways. The talent trees for each class are extraordinarily dull and don't really change the way you play the game. People have said that this is a MMO-type FPS, but don't be fooled. This is not a MMO nor is it anywhere near one.

The good parts of this game are the combat systems and the looks of the game. It really is one of the prettiest games I've ever seen and the combination of multiple weapon choices and weapon mechanics make combat exciting. There's also no difficulty settings so you can't ramp up the overly-easy standard difficulty or turn off the hilarious auto-aim setting.

This game is no where near worth the price that so many paid. Such a disappointment.

    There's 1 raid. That's it.
Not worth £45. Maybe for £10 I'd consider this a good buy.

Dont bother playing this game on PC. The amount of aim bots, wall hacks, and other cheats is ridiculous. Its not uncommon for 90% of kills in a pvp game to be all head shots. If you feel like aim botting yourself, go for it, otherwise stay away.

It never was fun. being timed in a twitch shooter is fine for achievements but some of us just wanting some gear. seriously remove the stupid timer. If the "hardcore" want to challenge themselves, separate that mode and give them more, but let us just fight something really hard without a damn timer.

Gear almost never is better than what you currently have. I've been playing for 2 days and seem stuck on level 21 and 22 gear with every engram being lower than that even. I've really just stopped trying and moved onto other games that I don't have to fight RNG for.

Events are garbage, most you have to pay to participate. paying in a game you already payed, not to mention none of the guns really have that good feel to them that other shooter games seem to have.

PvP is the same boring mess it always was. Use auto-rifle or hand cannon, get super, wreck faces, hear someone else use super, run away. As someone who constantly had a 3.0 or high K/D rate I can say that I didn't have fun doing it. maps still have that issue where slight inclines can stop you from moving if it isn't "ramped" properly. Meaning if you aren't jumping you just don't move.

I can't say one thing about a raid because I'll probably never have enough interest in the game to get that far. all the stuff that should gear you for the raid is just a random chance.

TL;DR AVOID THIS GAME! DESTINY 1 IS A LOT BETTER! And that really pains me to say that...at least there is real progression in that game.

The gameplay by itself is alright, nothing special, turn your brain off and shoot while collecting better gear. The same old mmo formula. This game is both Awesome and Awful. I didn't played Destiny one, and this review addresses the entire game, including extensions at the moment I write this, meaning : Warmind, Forsaken and Orisis, with a little bit of Forges.

It sold itself as a mix between Warframe, Borderlands, Halo and some MMORPG stuff.
That's not wrong, but all these games are way better than this one.
Summarize : A not-so-bad game, but not as fun a Borderlands, not as dynamic as Warframe, and with a so-so story, with really timid MMORPG elements and waaaaayyyys to much grind and RNG.

First, lets begin by what is good :
Graphics are awesome, and the game is relatively light. There are a lot of stuff to do in the game, and a lot of Lore to explore.
The gameplay is dynamic without being too slow, there is some room for coordination between players and the camera switching (from fps to tps) when using certain abilities etc is well made and pleasant. You can feel the inertia of your hits, movements, and yet the gameplay is extremely fluid.
The build system, event if classes are not really so different from each others, seems at first really limited, but when reaching endgame, becomes really rich and the sum of tiny limited elements permits to do some nice and "original" builds. Every weapon is OK to use un PVE, even if some are better than others.

Now, let's explain why this game does not have a 10, but only a 2.
This game has one main issues : the progression system and the skin customization.
The progression system is a really grindy one, and not really fun grind. You need a "power level" the damages you inflict and you take are representative of the difference of power between you and the PVE opponent. The higher the ratio between yours and his, the higher you will hit and the lower you will get hit.
When progressing through the story, the required power level increases as well. At first this is not a bother, since you are into the game, and power level, given by your equipment, raises with every loots you get. But once reached the "soft cap", you need to do daily and weekly quests to get power level increasing and access new content. I'm at a point I finished the story of Forsaken, and I want to try the Forge. My power is 585 and the required is 615. Monsters there shred me while I need twice the normal amount of ammo to kill them. And it's frustrating, because it is not a problem of build or skill, only that my numbers are not high enough. Especially since the monsters are always the same since the beginning of the game...
Another part of the progression system that bother me is the randomness of the loots. There is close to no way to influence what type of loot you want to get, and most of the loots are useless after you reach the soft cap. Weapons and items comes with "perks" on it, changing their abilities, but these are also completely random. So you just have to wait for the right item to come with the right perks.
The idea is not so bad, because it somewhat forces players to try new weapons. But the reality is that if you like to try lots of builds like in a RPG, you will face a strong deception. As well as the exotic (rarest items possible) items, that are just as random as usual, and most of the time ends up being close to useless, especially because you can only equip two out of 3 weapons and 2 armor pieces.
The sadest part of this is that the game is extremely rich of achievements and lore, and that none of them are used to get stuff.
And armors are locked to a character class, so if you want to test all three classes at endgame, you have to do the grind three times somehow...
Finally, armors are random, the perks on it are randoms, and the appearance as well, so you just can't really choose how you will look unless you are extra lucky. But in this case you should just try gambling instead of playing this game.
Bonus : part of the gameplay, especially raids, does not have matchmaking and so you have to recruit people via clan or chat, unless you have five others persons playing with you.

as a conclusion, this game is not bad, even quite good, but is definitely not worth it's price and the price of it's extensions. It can be interesting if you have friends, like 3 or 6, to play with.

It does not necessarily suck, but in no universe could this ever be considered fun. After (for some stupid reason) putting 150+ hours into this game, I have not once played a single match of pvp without feeling the urge to pull all my hair out. The meta is so strongly defined by equipment that either comes extreme endgame or hours and hours of grinding a single mission since the drop rates are so obscure. To put it simply, until you obtain these game-breaking items, there is no way you are ever going to have a good time in pvp. Out of hundreds of weapons and armor pieces to choose from, you are guarenteed to see maybe 3 different ones in play in pvp and even pve. It's unbelievable, and the developers sure take their sweet time between patches, leaving players with a mediocre experience for months at a time. It is a huge problem when players have been asking for changes and complete reworks to many of the games essential elements such as the ammo economy and supers. Supers are completely overpowered in both pve and pvp. They go from granting your entire fireteam invincibility for a long period of time or completely eliminating the need to reload. In pvp supers are going off constantly, and if you don't have a super to counter one on the enemy team, you are completely hopeless and will sometimes be killed more than once by the same guy in the same super. I can safely say avoid pvp at all costs. Unless you enjoy having a miserable grinding experience with terrible story progression for a price that this studio has some serious audacity asking for, I strongly advise avoiding this game and all its expansions until you find one hell of a discount. While Destiny 2 has a solid foundation and a robust story campaign, its endgame content feels a little lacklustre. The sandbox doesn't have a whole lot of depth, and plumbing each of the hub worlds for secrets doesn't feel that rewarding. Grinding Public Events, Raids, and Strikes with friends is definitely a lot of fun, but there's a huge disconnect between content being cleared and your character strength increasing. There's still a lot of room for Destiny 2 to grow but, for now, it's still got a few kinks to work out.
