I'm 36 years old and in the beginning these young "punks" annoyed the heck out of me, but now I completely pawn them - well.. sometimes, hehe.     a bit tedious, sometimes spend more time running to the action than in the action. Doesnt encourage me to play it much.

    For some reason this game never gets boring. I think the player community (not much hacking at all) keeps this game as fun as it is. I own many FPS's, but this is my favorite.

    How does this get a worse rating than Red Orchestra? This game is by far the best WWII game on the market! I will never play any other WWII game, multiplayer or singleplayer! Nothing can compare to the excellent graphics, sounds, weapons, and realism in general.

    Great game, though I'm laming FPS The only negative point is that you really need to play on a server with the MG's & snipers limited, because when team is losing they all go start laming with snipers or mg's

    Great game. Just barely lives up to the original, but still a great play. Nice to see them release regular updates for the game, adding new maps and game content for free unlike some other games. Great team based play, a good team strategy greatly helps, and the game is usually most fun to play with groups like clans or guilds.

    One of the more underrated FPS's in my opinion, it has good balance with the player classes. It doesn't really favor being a sniper or a machine gunner, or assault classes by giving them more special abilities. I also like the fact that you respawn pretty quickly too.

    I don't see any advantages of the source game engine, because all in game simply rush with too big speed. The graphycs in game on an average level. It's looks like a generic arcade, I can't play this after CS:S. CS:S - really good production.

    this is the best multiplayer game based on the WWII, i have also played CoD multiplyaer but DoD:S is really better for a lot of aspects.

    The graphics were good few maps but still good but only features USA and Germany when where the Russians,British,Japanise and Italians. Its anoying that they didn't inclued anyone else.

    This game is da coolest online action i;ve ever seen, there are just sometimes problem in steam.exe connection. Also, most servers are empty so, it's hard to settle down in this game.

BUT! this game has lots of other elements that make of for the lack of user made crap. for one the graphics are the source engine and well i love the source engine. the ragdolls are nice. being able to this game would have gotten a perfect 10 out of 10 if it had ANY, any at all, user created maps. Unlike counter-strike source this game features only official maps...correct me if im wrong. BUT! this game has lots of other elements that make of for the lack of user made crap. for one the graphics are the source engine and well i love the source engine. the ragdolls are nice. being able to see the little yellow lines that are bullets wizz past me. watching someone go around a corner and get mowed down and seeing the spray of blood, all and all this game is bratally amazing. and its totally team based. unlike counter-strike this game takes HUGE advantage of team. In CS you can go out by yourself and survive for 4-5 rounds alone. In dod source if you go off by yourself you will die and not get anything acomplished but a high death and low kill score.… Expand

    I would say its a 7.5 but they dont have it. this game is very intense and i like the blood :) the reasion i gave it a 7(or 7.5) is because WHERE ARE THE IRON SIGHTS!!! I WANA AIM DONT MY SIGHT ON THE THOMPSON AND BAR!!! this gfame would be perfect if u could do that

    DoD was the best WWII game I have ever played, and when DoD:S was released using the new source engine, wow it blew me away, it's much better then any of the WWII games on the market right, I even just tried Red Orchestra, and wow that game sucks so much compared to this, graphics, gameplay, sound and all.

    Awesome game, great graphics, sounds. could be a bit better with more maps, but the game is so great I still play it alot. I would recommed DoD: Source over Counter Strike: Source anyday.

    I recommend this game to WWII game lovers, both newbies and veterans. Pros- 1. It is easy to grasp when you start playing 2. The weapons look and feel good. 3. Playing with friends is great, but using teamwork with complete strangers is just as good. 4. Graphically the game is great, but to play at all high settings you may need a beefy computer. 5. The level design in the default levels I recommend this game to WWII game lovers, both newbies and veterans. Pros- 1. It is easy to grasp when you start playing 2. The weapons look and feel good. 3.     This game it good, and for peaople who say this game should be more realiticly paced, it would take 5 to 12 days to take a village like the one in kalt. 12 friggin days of sittin on a crappy chair in yer 2 bot 9" moniter (depending opun how awsome you are) By the way, kalt means "cold" in german.

    This game would be a 10 if the player could Lean left and right and scrool the weapons without the need to left click on them. This would make a Huge Difference in the gameplay.

    'The Thinking Man's CSS' is what I think best sums up this game, however as with all mods-turned-professional it's not without it's problems, related almost entirely to content. It is also not particularly newbie friendly, being unforgiving when you face up to more professional players.     This game has been one of the best online World War II games around since its inception back in the late 90's. After so many years and some MAJOR game updates and changes to play style it still provides many hours of enjoyment.

    Despite lacking depth, its probably one of the most atmospheric WWII shooters out. Unlike its slow-paced sister Counter-Strike, DoD offers fast-paced, hardcore combat. Bullets whiz, men fall and grenades explode around you. Truly atmospheric. The guns may be have a high recoil, but this is more of a tactical balance than a problem. You can't just gun 'n' run.

    This game has gotten really great with some bugs fixed and wider selection of maps. There's also much less newies floating about, and finding a good server with skilled players is always easy and really makes it interesting. Definitely my favorite game to play at the moment, and has been for a while.

    As Sean said, the gun recoil is a horrendous thing. Guns just dont fly up in the air like they are portrayed to do. The guns act like the weigh nothing so they fly up in the air when fired, this simply doesnt happen with a real gun. BTW you can shoot an MG42 while standing in real life. Despite this major flaw the game is pretty, and is worth getting if you can get it cheap.

    This game is great! Not only is the community content a plus, the game physics are wonderful. The admin controls are friendly. The only downside seems to be ping issues when going head to head with any user having the better pc affecting the outcome.

    I like this game so much... its like a new version of Call of Duty 3! This game is so good. Good job Valve! Continue your perfect games! I play Counter-strike: source, Half Life 2 Deatmatch and Day Of Defeat: source and I have that you guys (valve) make a game like GTA 4 ... that would be great!

    Generally dull and extremely unrealistic. A terrible representation of the amazing source engine. Valve really put this game out fast and didn't concentrate on game play. Don't get me wrong, it's decent when you have nothing else to play, but compared to Red Orchestra, it does not hold up for mature and rational minded thinkers.

    The first thing that strikes me about this game is the awesome sounds , the ambience and speed of the game keeps you on your feet . All the maps are well made and at any point there are 3 or more directions where from u may get killed. The huge range of maps and weapons enables anyone to enjoy themselves wether they prefer sitting back with a machine gun, or in the faces of the enemy with a Thompson or MP40. Full of clans and communities, ranging from leagues teams to realism units. Make it your own.

    This game is great. Great graphs, great weapon and world sounds, and with cool atmosphere...The gaeplay is very realistic, and the maps are so big that you can lost on it...I think is better then other famous games...

    Its an ok game but its missing many of the old elements and there are many bugs on the maps i also find the maps to be little under designed. but in total its just a game which gets boring very quick.

    This game is alright but ...... im troubled by the hit box and the gun recoiling way to much. Not only that, but there are many cheaters/togglers in DOD that deny it. Overall with out hacks and the trouble of the recoil. This game is okay. This graphic is good and the community also.

    The sound of machine gun fire over the sandbags you crouch under is amazing. If you play the game enough you will even notice that every single object in the maps are placed perfectly, and it balances the map. While the German weapons are faster and have more capacity, the US ones are focused more on accuracy, and this also adds to the intensity.     Best FPS game out there, easy to learn and very enjoyable to play. Lots of servers to play in. No monthly fees, very cheap. May not be accurate as other newer FPS simulation wise but hey it is a GAME!

Not a problem, though, if you play on an "Orange Map" server. All custom. On the other hand, the guns are realistically inaccurate, which means you can't snipe someone with the Thompson that is more than 3 meters away. At least This is a great game, all around. There are some problems though. 1 - Almost no one uses teamwork, since this game comes with CS:S. 2 - Only a couple of maps. Not a problem, though, if you play on an "Orange Map" server. All custom. The physics of the game, the distant gunshot sounds, the shellshock that you get after a grenade goes off near you, the historical accuracy of the weapons (you can't get a headshot with a handgun standing 100 ft away like you can in other WWII shooters), The game is very addicting. I think it was heavily influenced by the movie "Saving Private Ryan" in the way it sounds and feels. The physics of the game, the distant gunshot sounds, the shellshock that you get after a grenade goes off near you, the historical accuracy of the weapons (you can't get a headshot with a handgun standing 100 ft away like you can in other WWII shooters), and the sun blindness that you get after stepping out of a dark room are all really cool innovations. The only problem is that the maps tend to get kind of old after awhile due to lack of variety...otherwise a really enjoyable game that I would recommend to anybody interested in WWII.… Expand

    this is one of the best fps online and the community is freandly..... but the only reason i gave it 9/10 is because valve keeps on cangeing things but if thay did one big update to give us more wepons and skins and then it would get 10/10 from me

    It is a near perfection in the WW2 games as it perfectley blends realism and the "all hell" aspect of real world war II battles. I found all the maps to be quite enjoyable as long as you join the right server, and to kill with any of the weapons is oh so sastisying.

    Gorgeous looking game...the lack of official maps isnt a problem. Most people choose not to play the customs as much (overall) anyways. The official maps that do come out are great, just give the game some time to build itself up even more. Probably one of the greatest applications to $20 I've ever spent.

    A very brutal game with a harsh learning curve, made all the more satisfying when you begin to realize the vast potential for tactics on the (unfortunately few) detailed and warren like maps. It's a refreshing change from CS that's for sure.

    Excellent gameplay but few included maps which has been quickly remedied by the community. Although it does have a steep learning curve when first starting out, it's a great feeling once you can slaughter the opposition with any weapon including your trusty shovel!

    Fun, but the Thompson is waaaayy too overpowering. it makes the game no fun.

    This game is pretty good. The gameplay is awesome. It needs some more developement in terms of more and bigger maps, map objectifs, and more classes. But the maps that are out there are extraordinary. What i don't like about this game is that you die so fast, and the kills are so cheap.

    I expect to be playing DoD a lot more than "Couterstrike: Source"... I recommend DoD:S to the multiplayer action crowd, but don't come crying to me when things start getting stale.

    While the game still needs some patching, and is unfortunately not DoD as we know it, this is still an absolutely fantastic package; those after a new multiplayer shooter can’t really go wrong with this one. Oh, and expect this score to go up over time as Valve patches out various problems.
