    A classic that defined an entire genre. More than 10 years after its release, most games still can't match its freedom in character building, nor the smart level design. Enemy AI hasn't aged that well, though, especially if you are already familiar with the company's later games, although a newcomer will probably still find this game a challenge.

    I can easily say that the game is far above the average in general. In my opinion, it is at the top of my masterpiece list. But in my opinion…. Because the game doesn’t really appeal to everyone. You have the possibility to leave the game for the first 1 hour, you have the possibility to play for 10 hours without interruption. I can talk for hours about this game and I want to talk. But what I want more than talk is my desire to stop writing as soon as possible and return to the game. Although I have finished it many times, I am dying to experience the same tension over and over.

    This game is amazing even by 2023 standards. Miyazaki-san is one the most innovative persons in the gaming industry, and every soulsborne I play is a unique experience. The port itself is good! Stable 60 fps, online mode is active, all that good things.

    One of the best designed worlds in gaming, the interconnectivity of the areas is unmatched by every game that came after it. Unfortunately, after Anor Londo the game takes a nosedive into mediocrity until the amazing ending.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No comment about the quality of the port.

    1st half was 10/10, but after Anor Londo, the level design and boss quality dropped quite significantly.

    Diffiiculty scaling was all over the place in the 2nd half too, therefore 7/10.

    DLC was kind of lazy, just an asset flip of Darkroot Basin, but the bosses more than made up for it, so 8/10.

    After putting a lot of time, effort and frustration into it and playing other From Soft titles there is actually an outstanding game with a great atmosphere and fantastic gameplay hidden underneath a huge pile of annoyances like clunky menus, lack of modern features and unexplained mechanics.

    For casuals I'd strongly recommend to just play a more fun and accessible modern PC game like    After putting a lot of time, effort and frustration into it and playing other From Soft titles there is actually an outstanding game with a great atmosphere and fantastic gameplay hidden underneath a huge pile of annoyances like clunky menus, lack of modern features and unexplained mechanics.

    For casuals I'd strongly recommend to just play a more fun and accessible modern PC game like god of war any day or (if you are dedicated) to start your From Soft journey with Elden Ring.

    For people who are intrigued by From Soft games this is another fantastic title to spend hundreds of hours on. If I had to pick one "genre" to play for the rest of my live it would be From Soft titles - for me their gameplay and atmosphere is just unmatched. These aren't normal games this is art. I can't even tell which one I like the most because they are all playing in another league than any other game I have played over the last 30 years. And for that they deserve a 10.    … Expand

    Absolutely loved the game. It was my first souls game and a nice introduction to the series. I did feel a bit empty after finishing it. I was like ''this is it?''. I mean the game was so fun and cool but the ending was abruptly cut. It was missing something, but I don't know what. Would've given it a point less but

I'm maybe biased and would defend it brainlessly, but to anyone who wants to experience a pure DS experience, use a controller, some mods for graphical issues if you encounter one and the ultimate HD mod. Give it a try and you'll end up playing this gem for the next weeks unable to stop. Remember thatTo this day, DS 1 remains my best in the franchise. Everything about this game is great.     A huge amount of amazing music that fits perfectly with the universe of the game.
    The atmosphere and spirit of the universe is one of the strongest that has ever been created.

The world is so distinct from itself yet connected with the levels honing your skills effectively, the bosses are creative and unique with brilliant designs, both mechanically and visually, yes the difficulty is something you need to get used to, but theI played this game for the first time recently and wow, it truly blew my mind and made me realize that games are truly an art form. The quiet, tragic, story is slowly drip fed throughout the game and hits you right in the feels at times once you put everything together.     Basically Dark Souls 1, just prettier. Amazing level design, lore and especially gameplay, an iconic masterpiece that started a new gaming genre. Not the best Remaster by any means, but better than nothing.

    This is a great game that will test your patience and will give you the upmost satisfaction (in more ways than one when you get to the blight town boss) when beating that tough boss. Great PC port and would recommend to anyone who is really trying to get their moneys worth when it comes to hours you are going to put into the game.

Even though people were complaining about such difficulties, Dark Souls was a game that reminded me that after a long time, I can have difficulties in games, that there is a challenge I have to overcome, there is a story I have to solve. Although I don't dwell on it - I don't think I need to mention it - the combat system of the game is tremendously enjoyable and has set an example for the games that came after it.

    I think the second striking point of the game is the story. Dark Souls is basically a game with a universe of its own. However, this universe is not an easy universe to understand like in other games. To understand this universe, sometimes you have to read about the helmet piece of an armor set you find in the far corner of the game. Although this may seem annoying, it offers a more interesting, and more importantly, more mysterious world than a game where you can collect pages and read everything from the menu. Also, the Dark Souls universe feels like its own mythology, leaving us with great characters that we will never forget, even after leaving the game.

    Although the game is not very successful in terms of image, it is a very nice feeling to have the world constantly connected from somewhere and to watch the places that are close to there, that we can go later or that we have gone before while traveling around the world. In terms of music, Dark Souls leaves us with almost 5 iconic and never-to-be-forgotten songs. But I can say that especially the weapons are very good in terms of sound.

    Dark Souls is a game that I can write pages about, has its own philosophy, and should definitely be an example for every game. It has flaws, yes, but for such a great game, these are minor.    … Expand

X boss'u öldürdükten sonra şu heykelin önünde şu spesifik yüzüğü takarsan, şu gizli kapı açılıyor gibi. Yardım almadan bazı yerleri geçmek mümkün değil.

    Beni en çok şaşırtan alanların ve mekanların çeşitliliği oldu. Bu konuda neredeyse Elden Ring seviyesinde. Önümüzü bile göremediğimiz ve oynanışı direk değiştiren karanlık mağara, boşlukta yürüdüğümüz kristal mağara, zehirli kasaba, lavlı bölge, orman ve daha nicesi. Epey farklı bölge var ve bunlar sadece görünüşten ibaret değil.

    Atmosferi Bloodborne ya da Dark Souls 3 kadar kuvvetli değil. Bunda görsel kalitenin biraz kötü olması etkili tabii. Yoksa çizimler, konseptler yine şahane.

    Düşman çeşitliliği yine epey üst seviyede. Elden Ring'deki bazı düşmanları birebir burada görmek şaşırtıcı oldu. Boss çeşitliliği de iyi ama dönemin teknik imkanları nedeniyle olsa gerek, hareketleri o kadar çeşitli ve akıcı değil. Dancer gibi kıvrak, Nameless King gibi öngörülemez, Friede gibi şaşırtıcı bir boss yok. Ayrıca çok zor bir boss da yok. En zorlayıcısı Artorias the Abysswalker idi ama o da diğer oyunların en zorları seviyesinde değil.

    Neticede 50 saat süren, warrior olarak başlayıp ağır str olarak tamamladığım macera, yine ağzımda hoş bir tat bıraktı. Şimdiye kadar oynadığım From Sowtware oyunları arasında bir tık zayıf kalsa da mükemmel bir temel olduğuna şüphe yok.    … Expand

    I had a negative view of this game in the past. Until I saw some videos about how to play this game and that was the moment I fell in love with this game. I realized that there is a deep philosophy behind the gameplay of this game and it is also refreshing, and I can confidently say that it is one of the best or maybe the best experiences of my life.

    Dark souls 1's level design is a masterpiece. There is no map in these game and even there is no guide to find the way. The game immerses the player in a strange world and waits for the player to find their way. During this journey, the player is not guided by game as much as possible. Actually, it's really hard to learn the whole map at first. I restarted the game about 7 times to memorize all the corners of the map. But once the memorize all the map, all the places in the game seems like home, and this feeling might be one of the best satisfaction in a game.
    Game has a beautiful lore in background. But game's storytelling choices are a little complex. It is really hard to follow game's story without searching on internet. Player have to collect nearly all the items and reading their description to have a clue for this world. It is really hard because as i said, game doesn't provides any support to discovering all the map. And in this situation it is really easy to miss items. Besides the player has to talk all the npc and also this is really hard because most actions player caused, effects npcs.

    With the wisdom of hindsight, a true classic. A new gaming paradigm, a punishing difficulty level with challenges that are often easily circumvented when you know how, and some of the best level design in one of the most immersive environments in gaming history.

    New gamers - ignore the cliches. Getting stuck usually just means you need to grind near a bonfire for a while. It's that simple.

    I haven't had a chance to play the first dark soul yet, so for me, it's a good game. After finishing Dark soul III, I immediately bought Dark Soul I, and I like it. The plot and especially the map design made me feel impressed, and after the battle with Gwyn with the legendary theme song, I am sure that this is a masterpiece of From.

    Pro:
    + The first half of the game is near perfection

    + Absolutely amazing level design and areas interconnection in the first half
    + Various weapons’ moveset
    + Good game balance
    + Really good lore
    + Good division on the amount of mandatory and optional areas and bosses
    + Extremely good cohesion between gameplay and narrative
    + Beating adversities awards the player with souls, shortcuts or good equipment
    + Incredibly balanced combat system
    + Most of enemies’ moveset is clear and they have both the possibility to be learned by heart and/or to react by instinct

    Cons:
    - One of the worst tutorials I’ve ever seen in modern games, with many important information completely missing
    - Most of the second half of the game is extremely bad in terms of level design (with basically no interconnection between areas), enemies and bosses
    - The lack of a weapon evolution tree makes pretty complex to know what you need to obtain a certain power up of a weapon
    - Ordering in menus is by category and alphabetically, but based on japanese names, thus not making any sense in other languages
    - No possibility to pause the game even when playing offline
    - No possibility to save and reload as you want
    - The game doesn’t give clear path directions to new players
    - Inconsistencies in what a button does in the different menus
    - Sometimes, hidden affordance
    - Some actions don’t have a good feedback (like the crow’s nest)
    - Some geodatas really suck (I’m looking at you, Great Hollow)
    - Understanding how to enter the DLC without a guide is an extreme challenge on its own
    - NG+ starts automatically after defeating the final boss
    - Some characters’ quests have terrible triggers, which may lead to losing their entire quest
    - The effect of certain items is not disclosed anywhere, not even in their description
    - A few but annoying bugs

    Miscellanous:
    * If it’s your first Souls-like, it requires time to understand the mechanics and how to play well and proceed in the game, because even though it looks like any other action game, the truth is that it’s in a totally different category of its own.

    Foi o primerio souls-like que consegui zerar, e com certeza é um dos melhores jogos que já joguei, nunca esquecerei quando cheguei em anor londo e vi aquela linda cidade, onde toda a população ja deixara de existir, se tornando um lugar extremamente belo, mas vazio.

    El primer juego en 3D que se siente un "metroidvania" por el diseño del mapa...Libertad para ir dónde te salga de los pies. Tiene un OST espectacular, personajes y jefes carismáticos. El primer "Souls" de muchos y pese a ser el primero me parece de los mejores.

    A versão Prepare to Die no PC é uma vergonha, travado em 30 fps e tem local que cai pra 15 ou 10.
    Nessa nova versão melhoraram bastante, principal o travamento nos 60fps. Alguns mapas estão com texturas muitas lindas. Fora isso, nenhuma novidade.
    Preço muito alto, deveriam baixar o preço dessa poha e do sekiro.
    From software explora muito os fãs do genero.

    A good structure of locations, an excellent variety of enemies and bosses, a large number of secrets, which can be considered both a plus and a minus. Unfortunately, most of the bosses are very easy when compared to the third part.

    One of the best Action RPGs out there. A beautiful, varied and interconnected world, good sense of risk and reward, and some amazingly well-designed boss fights. It falters in its third act, but by then it already reaches the status of a masterpiece. A beautiful soundtrack to accompany the journey. Praise the Sun!

    The best change by far is the slight graphical increase (Yes, Slight, it's def noticeable but    Awesome game.     Не буду судить ремастер, так как не проходил игру в 2011.
    Игра приносит массу удовольствия, а именно геймплей и противники. Наверное, один из лучших геймплеев среди игр. В последок хочу сказать, что концовка не оправдала ожиданий. А если судить в общем, то эта игра затягивает очень сильно.    Не буду судить ремастер, так как не проходил игру в 2011.

    Very good game. This was my second Dark Souls game. I started with 2 and i have to say i better liked the second episode. More challenging than this. But nearly the same. Overall, this is very good game. I recommend everyone have patiente and like to experince a challenging game.

    I love dark souls, it's one of those games that made me believe in video games and consider them a true work of art. The remastered version is better in gameplay and graphics but there's not enough quality of life changes to justifies its price. Dark Souls is a flawed masterpiece and could've enjoyed a better remaster but Dark Souls Remastered is still one of the best RPgs of all time andI love dark souls, it's one of those games that made me believe in video games and consider them a true work of art.     В оригинальную первую часть серии я не когда не играл, да и зачем? Даже если изменения в ремастереде были незначительны, для не знакомого с серией игрока (вроде меня) это ничего не значило. Технически эта часть не худшая (технически худшая - вторая) но и не лучшая (лучшая - третья)

    Короче, игра в определённой сфере - шедевр. Но, тем не менее, - 8,5/10.

Es un videojuego de tal calibreTras finalizar esta primera entrega de Dark Souls. He podido llegar a entender la importancia y el valor de este videojuego tanto en los jugadores como en la propia industria. Sin ningún tipo de pudor puedo confirmar con toda seguridad que este videojuego es la pura representación de lo que tiene que llegar a aspirar cualquier lanzamiento en la industria. Es un videojuego de tal calibre que destaca prácticamente en cualquier aspecto que se mencione. La historia y narrativa en si es una verdadera joya argumental repleta de interés narrativo que aumenta la concentración y la admiración por el lore que desprende cada esquina del mapeado. En si tengo que decir que no es mi favorito de la saga. Dado que Dark Souls III me parece que en mi gusto tiene una narrativa mas atractiva. Pero en si no puedo desmerecer o desprestigiar esta primera entrega de la saga. Que en su versión remaster lanzada en 2018 resulta mas accesible a los jugadores que anteriormente no han podido disfrutarla. No se me ocurre un motivo por el cual no se pueda recomendar tanto este videojuego como la saga de Dark Souls en si. Creo que todo el mundo que pueda decir que le gustan los videojuegos debería por lo menos probarlo. Dado que la influencia del mismo se hace notoria por una mayoría de desarrolladores y esta logra poder trasmitir esa esencia de Miyazaki que tanto destaca en otros videojuegos. Creo que no hay mucho que decir de la saga Dark Souls porque en si se hace única y alberga tanto nivel que no logra tener rivalidad tanto en el genero como en la influencia en la industria.     Подключился таки к серии Dark Souls в 2к19. В планах пройти всю серию со всеми ачивками.

    Плюсы и минусы + сложность + есть прохождения нг+, нг++ с усложнением мобов и боссов. + есть фарм + темная атмосфера дарк фентези + есть пвп + дизайн уровней и их переплетение, способствующее нелинейному прохождению. + дизайн локаций.     + дизайн локаций. Мобы напичканы не просто так, у каждой локи есть своя фишка. В катакомбах бессмертные скелеты, в Руинах Нового Лондо нужен итем что бы дамажить призраков и т.п. Казалось бы мелочи, но приятно.

    - плохая итемизация и дизайн легкой брони. Мало вариантов легкой брони и выглядит она как ошметки бомжа. В длц добавили более менее приятный на вид сет Клинка Повелителя, но по статам он хуже ошметков в которых я пробегал всю игру, в частности Алый сет и Шитый Золотом Костюм. С виду это вообще скорее робы под магов, чем под моего ловкача.
    - Игра не вынуждает переключаться на другие виды оружия. За всю игру только один раз прибегнул к щиту, в бою с Хавелом. В остальном всю игру прошел с утигатаной. В общем игра за ловкача слабо продумана. Есть интересная система зачарования оружий, но особой надобности в ней не увидел.
    - отсутствие журнала квестов, что препятствует вниканию в оных и усложняет осмысление лора.
    - кривое управление, пришлось KeyTweak скачать что бы поменять некоторые клавиши.    … Expand

    Первые две части соулса следует относить к особой касте, ибо они на порядок отличаются от третьей, которую создавали уже от нехуй делать, ибо сам Миядзаки на нее почти хуй положил из-за чего она проседает, но не о ней речь.     Dark Souls: Remastered can almost barely be considered a remastered title for PC gamers and, while it provides some increase in graphics and quality of life improvements, these additions are largely negligible unless you’re a dedicated multiplayer fan. Despite this fact, Dark Souls is still an amazing game that is worth playing through more than once, and there’s a lot here for gamers who’ve never played through the first title in the Souls series.
