Game looks good, story sounds fun, great universe, but so poorly optimized that it's barely playable without giving me nausea. I can't play games with such low framerate.

    Fix your game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll keep this short and sweet with bullet points showing my disappointments with this game.
    - Barely any meaningful dialogue options, they are all incredibly linear and lead to the same thing
    - I expected choices, to be able to save characters like Jackie or Evelyn, but the game is linear as ****
    - Combat is average to below average, enemies are bullet sponges and they usually don't care about their safety and will just stand there while you unload into them. The ai is just bad.
    - The lifepath you choose is a 5 minute cutscene before it throws you back on the linear path.
    - Serious lack of romance options
-The world feels incredibly dull and there's no way to interact with it
    - The npcs are like something out of a ps2 game. They just wander around and bump into each other and you will see the same model over and over, sometimes you see 2 of the same npcs standing side by side.

I cannot recommend this game and you should ignore the blind fanboys giving this game a 10/10

If you look at the profiles of the vast majority of "user" reviewers giving this a 10, they're all obviously bot or fake accounts with a small number of reviews - many with only a single one for 2077. This only happens when a company is spending serious cash to furiously paper over their worst blunders.

It's not a good look, CDPR.

Amazing game if you can get past the strange bugs and glitches. Which is ironic as part of this game is about bugs and glitches.

Everyone should watch some gameplay before they buy this game and not because of the glitches. The main character is a bag and they way he delivers almost every line is cringe worthy. If you can get past that the game has a ton of sub par elements to enjoy.

Bugs on top, some of them game breaking (like key characters not showing up at all) are not even considered in the end score for me, as they will get patched eventually.

The game itself is, Good. It's not worse than I expected, nor better. It's about what I was expecting.

It doesn't do anything previous games hadn't done before. It does do most of it better.

It is a very bad PC port, with terrible men navigation clearly built for a Controller, rather than a Mouse. Performance is questionable at best. The Anti-Aliasing, I believe, is TAA. It is hard-baked in and it is implemented with bugs. The usual artifacting presents itself; Fuzzy surfaces, ghosting image trailing behind moving objects.

Combat is jarringly bad. Melee combat is a joke. Gunplay, similarly so. While the guns themselves are all unique and fun to shoot, enemies suffer from the Destiny-itus. Bullet Sponges, even with pure headshots and a crit chance build.

The character progression is a joke. Small percentages of sword damage or crit chance here or there. I might as well have none of it. Cyberware similarly so. They add nothing to the game. No unique progression paths. They are just things you can get, but you might as well not have them.

Skillchecks in dialogues and around the open world are probably the most entertaining parts of the Skillpoint system. Ripping doors off the hinges or talking someone's ears off until they give you what you want is entertaining. Like it always is in these types of games.

Side activities are ample, even the fetch quests are tailored to fit the universe. Side quests are entertaining and memorable.

The main story itself is, passable. Silverhand is an entertaining companion, however the story gets railroaded down 4 different paths towards 4 different endings and this becomes very obvious, very, very early on.

Last but not least, the bugs. Terrible. Puts Bethesda to shame twice over. I've fallen through the map into the Void Dimension multiple times, became invincible a few times, lost sound completely, lost sound partially, random floating items, T-posing NPCs, inability to progress Dialogue forcing a reload, dialogues clipping into one another a plethora of times. In short, a jarring, unforgivable mess. The game is a contender for buggiest game ever released, in the company of Fallout 76.

I do not believe future patches will be able to address all the technical issues.

As it stands, Cyberpunk does not deserve your money as a consumer. Wait for a heavy, HEAVY discount. 85%+ or so. Stay away from the Season Pass. Stay away from the Expansions. Wait for a sequel, if they'll ever make one.

So so sad to see this game be released in this state. Managment really Fkd up. So much content cut out, even AI elements of gangs fighting on streets and so much more. This game will be absolutely amazing when its fixed. The way the story is told, the immersion, graphics, characters, everything is 10/10. Sadly right now the game is about 60% there.

I have 28 hours in game. Great main and secondary quests, as we are used to from the Witcher. The city is really detailed, it freezes the "dead" NPCs, but they were already in the Witcher.

4 graphic glitches, two forced restarts, two bugs, two jams in the game, two crashes. When I compare it to Skyrim, it's completely different. 2600X, 16 GB RAM and 1060 6 GB. Something between

They did do a good job with the main quest line so props there, its what I expect from the guys who made Witcher, but they really need to learn how to make more engaging side quests and gameplay. Witcher suffered from similar problem, it just got boring towards the end because AI is not interesting or challenging. But the world of Witcher was just more interesting to me. Maybe its because its so foreign. Cyberpunk pretty much looks like a normal urban city. Sure there are some tech upgrades to people and objects but otherwise, it looks very much like real life. Which I find, boring I guess.

I also feel like the RPG elements of character building are thrown in without thought and have little to no impact. You literally can avoid them near entirely and it wont stop you from trivializing the game with just found gear. Gear is also a mess. Stuff you find gets outclassed really fast and nothing is really special, not even the so called iconic items. Crafting is too simple to be interesting too and the economy.... what economy? Money falls off trees. Its only a small issue early in the game and then money is worthless.

One note. I didnt have any major technical issues with the game on the PC. It fired up fine on high on my GTS 980 which is very old. I did edit the config file to allow for more RAM. There are bugs in the game, like NPC im-persistence and cars clipping into the ground (just saw it once) and walking through a wall. But nothing game breaking.

All in all, it was an average game for me but I can see why some might like it. I wasnt a fan of GTA either so I suppose its fair to say these games are just not my cut of tea.

Never been so torn on a video game my whole life. On one hand, there's the 180 hours I spent with CP2077 and genuinely enjoyed. On the other hand, I'm dying inside, thinking about the potential it had. Herein lies the biggest problem. What Cyberpunk does well, it does extraordinarily well. What Cyberpunk does well, it does extraordinarily well. But where it falls, it falls so hard that it actually hurts. Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad game. At all. I do recommend it.

The world is, for lack of a better word, breathtaking. I found myself just looking and taking in the sights more times than I can count. This is truly a beautiful work of art. One of best looking games I've seen by far, both technically and artistically. The characters, story and narrative are another high point. I loved them. All of them. They had such unique persona's, each with strengths and weaknesses. Their dialogue, voice acting, motion capture and even the small facial expressions are absolutely top notch. They almost feel real. There is so much love and care in here, it's practically bursting at the seams.

Of course it goes without saying but there is A LOT that is currently wrong or straight up missing. Stability is the major roadblock as of now. Granted, I didn't run into any game-breaking bugs but visual glitches, audio hiccups and physics bugouts are a regular part of the experience. As is braindead or non-existent AI. It really, really sucks. The other major issue is that this is an open-world game that is completely lacking in open-world mechanics. There's really nothing you can do outside of predetermined missions. Maybe you can drive around or go for a walk, but even that's a stretch as the number of glitches you'll run into will immediately bring you out of it.

But more than anything, I'm looking forward to the day where CP2077's potential will be fully realized. If or when that day comes, It's going to truly be something for the ages.

As for the technical state of the Game: Yes, there are some bugs here and there, but I've yet to experience any game breaking bugs. Worst I've had was a quest bug, where the quest did not continue for some reason, but a simple quick safe reload fixed that. Performance is alright, I'm getting round about 55fps with RTX OFF, Ultra Details and DLSS ON (Playing on a RTX 2070, Ryzen 1700, 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM, SanDsk Extrem Pro m.2 NVME SSD, Windows 10 1909, Newest Nvida Drivers, Game Version 1.04). RTX on drops me to 40 fps. All in all, on PC, which is what this section of Metacritic is for, I don’t think it’s as bad as some people want to make you believe. You can tell a lot of polishing is missing. Enemies & companions have basically no AI and run around like idiots. The fighting is ok, nothing special, and seriously marred by the lacking AI. Gun play is fine, fighting with melee weapons is disappointing because you just wildly slash around. Every boss fight so far has glitched out on me and enemies just stand around and wait for you, occasionally ducking out of cover or throwing a grenade, but they don't move around much. Companions yell random senseless comments that don't fit the situation all the time. Also honestly I am not sure if companions even make any damage in fights. I have the impression that they don't but I might be wrong, but very helpful they are not. Overall it feels like the developers just did not bother to try and program an AI or gave up halfway through. Dialogues also frequently glitch out a bit so characters end up repeating themselves or talking over one another.

The city is very, very beautiful and atmospheric, but there is not that much to do. So it's like a beautiful stage set that you just wander through - at least you can see everything is handmade with much detail. NPCs have only a few words to say if you try to talk and move around the city like on rails, giving a very robotic impression. There's many side quests that are usually not that interesting.

Several promised features have apparently been cut or reduced. There is no wall running, you can't customise your apartment, etc. The graphics were downgraded too, it's not bad and the lighting is really good and atmospheric but sometimes things can look a bit meh.

The story so far is pretty good, as are most of the characters and dialogues. They are really loveable but also you can only talk to them sometimes if the plot allows it. However, being in act 2 so far I have already noticed that the plot is starting to be not as well done as in act 1 anymore, the dialogues less carefully choreographed. I really liked the staging of the plot relevant events & dialogues at the beginning but it seems to be starting to worsen. We'll see.

The soundtrack is banging, and the overall setting is fun. Really the biggest problem for me is the lack of AI, it just makes the fighting meh. Even police is no threat because if they get called on you they just randomly spawn somewhere around you, then usually glitch out and after a few seconds of laying low the warrant is called off. I am having fun, but this game is not what you would expect from 8 years of development and would have probably needed a whole another year to properly reach a finished state. I hope fixes will come in soon to enhance the experience. Either way it will look like CDPR will take a huge reputation hit from this.

The best metaphor for Cyberpunk 2077 is Johnny Silverhand himself. A messiah, a mix of Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara, a talented singer who loves to shape his own legend and has a charming personality but loses the struggle with his own demons. The same goes for the game. It tells a great story and forced me to ask myself difficult questions, but many of its gameplay mechanics do not evolve and its technical state upon release was abysmal. Cyberpunk’s true hero is not a person, but Night City – a vibrant, living creature of great diversity. The beauty of the metropolis is striking. [01/2021, p.22]

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most disturbing and mind-blowing RPGs in history, where every decision has a deep impact on our trail. CD Projekt RED tosses us to the center of a city filled with disgusting delights where every character deserves our attention in an immersive experience and overall, very rewarding. From the sarcastic and shadowy tone imposed by the countless scenes in the game, to the flexibility we have on the choices to face every situation that is presented, Night City is truly memorable. It’s a shame that the countless bugs spoil or diminish the impact of some resounding moments, but we are without a question, in the presence of one of the best games in 2020.

Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them.
