The main quest line is rich and flavorful but the open world experience left me feeling disappointed. This game didn't live up to the hype.

It’s not exactly good either. It’s very pretty. The plot is passable, but beyond that it’s little more than a re-skin of Watchdogs with a few more mechanics thrown in for good measure. Overall though beyond the story and the looks, it’s not great. Combat is clunky. Driving is just... bad. The hacking mechanics leave a lot to be desired, with it being little more than ‘press X to hack’ with an optional mini game thrown in for good measure. Heck, they even ripped off the memory editing mechanics from Remember Me, a game more deserving of respect than the subject of this review. As for the cyberpunk aspect, I feel like they took a hint from Ernest Clines writing here - throwing in references to other cyberpunk works and borrowing heavily/stealing from them does not make your game cyberpunk. It barely scratches the surface of the theme and is, if anything “cyberpunk adjacent” at best. They had the potential to really dig into a lot of the ideas and tropes that underpin this genre. Instead they payed them lip service at best. It may get better over time. But honestly. That’s not something we should be counting on, nor should we forgive the mess of a release because it can be fixed post launch. CDPR engaged in some very **** behaviour, not just surrounding constant delays, enforced crunch and more, but also disallowing reviews until launch day, hyping the game in such a way as to make millions in preorders and the rest. This is not behaviour to be encouraged, we as gamers should be ripping them apart over this. What’s worse is the other games that have been delayed to avoid being ‘railroaded by the juggernaut of CP2077’ we may have actually had something decent to play this holiday season that’s worthy of our money. As it stands we have to hope that CDPR continue to patch and improve the game, quickly. I’m not sure just itching it will improve all of the issues but they’ll at least be able to get the bugs ironed out. I hope. Expand

There's a good game in there somewhere however it's horrible to play in it's current state.

Let's start with the pros. It's a nice looking game. The graphics are good (even on PS5, not so much base consoles) and the world feels alive; albeit not as alive as the early trailers/teasers made out. The characters are interesting, voice acting is strong and the dialogue options are solid.

Ok now onto the negatives. The UI/menus/map are all a mess. The map in particular is awful. Gunplay feels terrible, I know from the witcher that gameplay/combat wasn't the dev's strong point from playing the Witcher 3 but the gunplay feels like it's at least 2 gens old. Then there's the bugs, NPCs walking through doors/cars. Item's floating in mid air. Cut scenes cutting out half way through. Game crashes. Mini-map directions sending you into dead ends. The list is endless.

Like I said at the start, there's a good game in their somewhere but the developers really should have delayed it further at the minimum. It's frankly embarrassing they've chosen to release it in it's current state. I'd recommend waiting until they've patched some of the bugs, or even wait for a GOTY edition in a couple of years time where hopefully all the major hiccups have been sorted, plus it'll be much cheaper!

Gunplay is not great, the weapon design itself is great but they all feel the same and enemies are just bullet sponges.
I really wanted to like it and after the first few hours I did but spend time in the city and you begin to see the cracks. The bugs are well documented and I have seen a few playing on pc with a high end spec so I don’t need to mention it. A lot of time is just spent in menus also, information overload which a lot of could have been left out.

Overall I’m very disappointed with it and don’t see myself playing much more.

Made an account just to leave a review for this. First off, I'm a huge sci-fi nerd. I'll watch all the garbage TV-Shows and at least find them entertaining, so when I heard about Cyberpunk I was stoked. When the first gameplay was released, my expectations plummeted and stayed low and somehow I was still disappointed. Let's start from the start of the game:

Made an account just to leave a review for this. First off, I'm a huge sci-fi nerd. I'll watch all the garbage TV-Shows and at least find them entertaining, so when I heard about Cyberpunk I was stoked. When the first gameplay was released, my expectations plummeted and stayed low and somehow I was still disappointed. Let's start from the start of the game:
-Character creation is terrible and your character's appearance cannot be altered after you've completed it. There's around 40 something haircuts and yet I wasn't able to find one that I liked. What's even worse is that there's no sliders for ANY options in the character creation, so you have to manually click through all of the options. There's no body-weight or height options, there's only 2 voice options (male and female), the eye and hair colour options are VERY limited (there's no white hair???)... It seems like including genitalia options was just a publicity stunt because the character creation is extremly limited and doesn't live up to a triple-A 2020 title.
    - I was excited when I saw that you can choose a background for your character and then quickly disappointed when I learned that it doesn't matter at all. The only things that are influenced by your background are the short intro sequence and some dialogue options which are ultimately meaningless.
-Graphics and performance are atrocious. You can see people complaining about this on every forum. And IMO the game doesn't look great even on maxed. I haven't been able to find why, but my game has these weird dots appearing on textures the further away and more complex they are it seems. I've tried in-game settings, driver updates, settings on my Radeon software and nothing helped. Not even patching the game helped so at this point I'm convinced this is intentional. What's even worse is that if you're on an AMD cpu like me, you need to use a third-party program called HEX Editor to even make the game run the same as it would on an Intel cpu. TL;DR game runs awfully even though the graphics aren't revolutionary.
-Gameplay is bland and un-original. Hacking is devolved into pressing F to hack something, melee combat has only 1 combo which is unsatisfying, poorly animated and ruins the immersion. It has a strong attack which can't be chained into your fast-attack spam (which is all what melee combat is). Stealth is boring and outdated, and why do i have to click twice on an enemy that I want to do a takedown on? There's no real cover system in game, the way you take cover is simply by crouching or standing behind whatever you find. Gun-play is decently fun, but nothing new or exciting, and it's hard to notice it because the AI is so dumb and the difficulty settings just make enemies into a bigger bullet-sponge.
-Driving feels awful and unresponsive and vehicles can't be customized??? Seriously?
-The world looks amazing and even though it's heavily populated it feels dead. Again AI is just awful, like others have said.
-Some people disliked the characters in the story, but I personally like them. Except for V. V is an over-used soldier trope that doesn't fit into this world. Even if you're playing as a female V has the classic "macho" personality which I'm SO tired of already. I want a real character, someone I can feel for, not a fake badass soldier from 80s movies. This isn't the **** terminator. The rest of the story I actually enjoyed, although I would've liked to know more of the world.

If the game wasn't in development for 8 years I'd give it a pass. You'd think that this would be something revolutionary, but instead it's just a bad far-cry clone in a futuristic GTA city.
CD Project RED seem to be a good company, so I hope they at least learn from this and release something new and much much better in the future OR release patch in new content, improvements and content tthat was cut.

But thats where the good parts end for me as the game sticks at 40-50 fps as my 2080 stays at 50% usage no matter what settings i have the agme on, low or high. i'v tried everything to fix it, from reinstalling drivers and updating windows, nothing works, game is just not optimized.

The only place CDPR met my expectations is in the construction of the environment which the game takes place. Moving from one area to another wonderfully illustrates the unique architecture and feel in the various districts of Night City, I've marvelled at the skyscrapers in the centre of the city as well as the Badlands and Night Cities unique take on 'Suburbia' in the south of the map on 6th street gang territory. There really is vertically, with hidden communities / tunnels and even a park under the freeways. However while the city is built to look fantastic and is a pleasure to drive around, the immersion falls away as soon as you try talking to an NPC especially the 100's running market stalls none of which can sell anything to your player.

NPC's AI is one of the most problematic parts of the game. While bugs are fixable, NPC behaviour is beyond bugged. It feels like there never was a system in place to realise CDPR's promise that; 'There will be over 1,000 Cyberpunk 2077 NPCs with hand-built daily routines.' NPC behaviour is simply atrocious on every level. NONE engage in any real conversation with your character, they have 1 canned lined which they repeat regardless of how you're interacting with them. They all behave in the exact same way when shot, carjacked or bumped into; they crouch on the ground with their hands over their heads. GTA III's NPC AI is far better, same with the Outer Worlds (a game which was consistently advertised as a lower budget title and overdelivered, Cyberpunk frequently feels like AA game of a similar level)

Scripted interactions with characters are handled far better, but those are mostly limited to main story missions and even then, many interactions with the people giving you missions are done over the phone. Your phone is constantly ringing you, can't refuse calls, its not an effective way of building up fixers (side mission givers) into effective characters and is overwhelming. You get a message every time a car comes up for sale, they could have cut down on this with an online car dealer like GTA.

The actual script and story of the game IMO is far better and original than most AAA game offerings, though character dialogue is too reliant on swearing with a kind of 'dude-bro' 90's jock vibe, the game doesn't find it's voice nearly as well as The Witcher 3 or RDR2 did. And while the story is good and solid, I ranked it about level with that of the Outer Worlds and below that of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Most story missions are well designed and fun, the beginning of the game (I played as a Nomad) was particularly impressive, that being the time you're in a limited area without many choices to make, the more freedom the game gives you the more immersion falls to the side. One of the most disappointing moments in the game was about an hour in, you move to night city with your buddy. A 2 minute cutscene plays that was heavily used in advertising material, as it played and I recognised scene after scene I realised all these moments were only in the cutscene and I would never be able to 'play' these experiences.

Furthermore, no animations exist for eating, drinking or getting body mods. The examples of this in marketing are from cutscenes. The amount of footage I recognised from marketing in the early game is incredibly demoralising, the ads were literally the cutscenes, not gameplay.

I haven't even mentioned the bugs, I experienced one game-breaking bug in my 25 hours of play so far and an uncountable number of other bugs on PC.

In conclusion Cyberpunk 2077 gives us a fantastic looking world with terrible interactivity within that world. A good story with some interesting characters, interesting missions, some with several possible paths but which largely offer an allusion of choice with very few of your decisions leading down a different path (with a few notable exceptions). It forces so many compromises on the player that I can't recommend it. If you're looking for something to play you will be better served by; The Outer Worlds, RDR2 (my favourite game ever, a truly complete western experience) Control, Bioshock Remastered and even indie cyberpunk titles like Cloudpunk and Ghostrunner offer more polished gameplay within their limited worlds. Cyberpunk needs more than bug fixing, it needs to implement NPC AI, eating drinking animations, market stand interactivity, collision mechanics, a more in depth character creator (play as anyone! As long as they're 6 ft and have a 6 pack...), mid game character editing (you better love that hair cuz ya can't change it) and much much more. This is a bad game with the potential to be a good game after a year of patches but I don't see it ever being an amazing game. There’re loads of bugs, but beyond that there's a lack of depth to the world that I don't think can be patched in. The best thing Cyberpunk did was it taught me a very hard lesson; DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Regarding performance: Do not get cyberpunk until the glitch's are at least mostly fix. I actually can not play 2 minutes with encountering a glitch. I.E Jackie running through walls screaming at everything as if we are in combat. Shooting people and no damage occurring.
I also have the recommend system requirements yet i have to put all settings on low and I get 38 fps indoors and outdoors anything between 35-15

Gameplay: the gun-play is really sluggish like from a 2012 video game. I for some reason am not allowed to stealth around because as soon 'stealth' kill someone every enemy around me heard it. Fist fighting is truly awful. I tried fighting the Kabuki twins in a tournament, and it was so hard. Because they flew across the roof tops and punched the air 4 feet In front of me and I get hurt.

Now the story SPOILERS: The prologue and act 1 did such a bad job setting the characters up. For instance Jackie I did not care at all that died because the prologue was a tutorial and slide show of events you and Jackie have. Then act 1 you did 2-3 things with him its forgettable.

The environment: Feels dead. Its a beautiful game even on low settings. But their is just about nothing to do in it. Also the AI are brain dead, and are nothing like CD project red said they would be.

To sum it up its insanely hard to enjoy and CDPR did not deliver.

The best metaphor for Cyberpunk 2077 is Johnny Silverhand himself. A messiah, a mix of Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara, a talented singer who loves to shape his own legend and has a charming personality but loses the struggle with his own demons. The same goes for the game. It tells a great story and forced me to ask myself difficult questions, but many of its gameplay mechanics do not evolve and its technical state upon release was abysmal. Cyberpunk’s true hero is not a person, but Night City – a vibrant, living creature of great diversity. The beauty of the metropolis is striking. [01/2021, p.22]

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most disturbing and mind-blowing RPGs in history, where every decision has a deep impact on our trail. CD Projekt RED tosses us to the center of a city filled with disgusting delights where every character deserves our attention in an immersive experience and overall, very rewarding. From the sarcastic and shadowy tone imposed by the countless scenes in the game, to the flexibility we have on the choices to face every situation that is presented, Night City is truly memorable. It’s a shame that the countless bugs spoil or diminish the impact of some resounding moments, but we are without a question, in the presence of one of the best games in 2020.

Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them. But all in all, despite the countless small weaknesses and inconsistences, with interesting characters, great story and dialogues or the freedom concerning gameplay, CD Projekt delivers a unique and great RPG that every fan of the genre needs to play.
