All so a lot of the rpg element was removed and feels more like action adventure with looter shooter thrown in there for good measure.
Do not get me wrong the overall game was fun and i enjoyed it but lacked a lot of what was promised.

It feels like CDPR put too much effort into trying to keep this game pretty and big, without making in game systems big and fun to play. Cyberpunk in current state would have worked fine as linear rpg, sadly , and to be honest.

However in its current state it’s a buggy and underdeveloped mess that should have been delayed at least 2 more times.

It doesn’t matter if you have Keanu Reeves, or a great story, great romances and arcs with closure to each, when your economy and AI are all over the place.

It doesn’t matter if you have good hacking abilities when you can’t even equip them all or find ways to utilize them because your enemies are re-used, t-posing sandbags.

It doesn’t matter if the gunplay is good when the guns are unbalanced and unfinished.

This game isn’t finished, and that’s putting it lightly. Seriously, people forget that CD pulled this **** with Witcher 3 and now rush to defend that game. Again, I don’t think this game is terrible, as a majority of its systems still work and I’ve had a good to great time with it. However, this isn’t ****ing finished at all. From both a technical and systematic standpoint this game is an absolute disaster, but as an open world narrative adventure it’s absolutely beautiful.

Due its problems and potential, Cyberpunk 2077 lands at a solid 50/100. Until further notice, this game may be enjoyable but is ****ing unplayable. Don’t even think about buying this on a console either, you’re going to burn your house down.

    This is my personal opinion.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a very mediocre and very overhyped game. I didn't wait any revolution or even something special, but I wanted the level of Witcher 3 (fantastic main story and sidequests).

I cannot even name it "quests", it's some damn grind of cyberpsychos. In the Witcher 3 (even in Witcher 2) every sidequest was a little masterpiece with it's own good written story. That's what Cyberpunk doesn't have and that's something I can't accept.
Atmosphere, music and pretty good main story basically save this game. Without them it would be 0/10, but as for me - it's 6/10 right now.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn’t want to be hard on this game, but I feel like giving it a five is pretty generous score after my first play of the main story and fair about of side quests. My play-through was done on a ps5. The Good: 1. The world of night city is amazing and is easily the best part of the game. I appreciate the detail, intense and abundant color and verticality of the world. I know there were concerns about map size, but this game feels big. I feel like there’s so much I haven’t explored and CDPR nailed the “feel” of the city. 2. Missions are generally well thought out, and they often go beyond your usual fetch quests, which is a great enhancement from most open world games. It seems like CDPR is finally trying to get on the Rockstar level of meaningful story and mission content. 3. The game feels immersive, and I love the story. It’s paced well, shows emotions, and creates connections to characters. 4. Weapon variety is nice and shooting most times feels really good. This is hard in a first person shooter, so really enjoyed it. The Bad: 1. This game and the main quest line is flat out too short. Way, Way, too short. The game takes a great story that is paced wonderfully and starts to rush the ending majorly. It sort of hollows out what is a great story up to that point. It’s Rage2 style short and underwhelming at the end, which says something. 2. The side quests are just too much, as you get constant video “calls” that you can’t ignore, characters will text you that you never connected with (like you’re old friends) and the content is just literally trash-dumped onto you the entire game. 3. The progression systems and menus are designed and conceptualized but just flat out not-executed in game. The game spends no time balancing you between the main story and side missions, which leaves you often with no or limited money for upgrades at the Ripperdoc, and the game literally doesn’t explain the menu or crafting to you. So you can make it to the end game without a ton of significant upgrades because the main quest line is so short and you’re underpowered for pretty much the whole thing. 4. The Bugs- this game wasn’t ready to come out. It will crash in the middle of missions, doors will stop opening, characters won’t animate. It’s maybe the buggiest release I’ve seen since Anthem. 5. The game doesn’t give us much new stuff. No mew mission structure (although the missions are fun) typical open world stuff. 6. Boss fights are terrible. Summary: Great game visually, that is ambitious with the world its created. That has come at a cost though, as its one of the buggiest games I’ve ever seen at launch, and the main story is way too short for a game of this type, with no “new” first person rpg elements present. The sequel of this game stands to be much better. Expand

Gunplay is nice, graphics look (mostly) great, hacking is a nice addition to the gameplay, driving is pretty bad.

When comparing what we got to what we were promised this game is a straight up lie. In any other industry there would be outrage and lawsuits like crazy. How can y'all trust these reviewers that say it's buggy but give in a great review. I think this will be a great game, I have an AMD processor and had to stop playing because it was so frustrating. I'll be back once it is patched and update the score. They just should have released it in 2021 and alot of this bad press would have been avoided.

I'm not even going to talk about how buggy this game is and the bad performance it has, i wish those were the only issues this game has. The AI is as bad as Mafia III if not worse, If you put your bike on the side of the road with enough space for the cars to keep driving they just don't know what to do and stay still, same thing when you shoot, instead of go fast and escape, all of them get out of the vehicle at the same time and lay down like a 2006 game. The police is awful as the always respawn close to you and on your back no matter where you are, either on the middle of the street, a rooftop or a small room and when it comes to shootings they just go running or move without a clear reason, same thing with your teammates if there's any. The city is beautiful but at the same time completely empty as there's nothing you can do apart from main and side quests (you can't even change your hair) so the only thing you have left is go drving around nightcity while trying to complain about how bad the driving on this game is, the wheel turns way too much forcing you to drift and bikes are even worse, there's no way you can fall from it, no matter how fast you go, the crash or how many things you try to climb because it's physics are pretty bad. The backstory is pretty much meaningless like every choice you make in the game apart from the last mission and possible romances. The graphics are pretty good and I enjoyed the story but it's far from the things promised. You barely interact with each gang apart from 1/2 quests with each one, can't customize guns nor cars and because of the loot system it's completely wortless to buy something from a gun shop or a common shop to buy clothes as those are way too expensive and you'll end up looting something better in the next 1/2 hours. The only positive aspects of the game are the graphics, city itself (buildings and neighborhoods) and story. There's too many bad things from this game for me to say and again, I was tryng not to be hyped for this game because it looked so damned good and didn't want to be disappointed but it's just not good, it was all marketing Expand

So much potential here, what a disappointment.
Yes there is some nice eye candy: the lighting, cars, bikes, some buildings... all modeled very well. The character models are nice too. But the interface, and clunkiness of basic functions, such as looting, it's so broken.
They truly did rush this out the door, and it should never have been promised on so many consoles at once. It's

They truly did rush this out the door, and it should never have been promised on so many consoles at once. It's true the install base of PS5/xboxwhatever is not what it needs to be for profits but that can come later. But another sad fact that becomes obvious when you play on PC is that the PC version was not fully optimized for PC. It's close, but really should have stayed separate, if that's even possible.

I finished the main story and half the side missions in about 55hrs. I'll go back and try a different role after another patch or two. Buy a cheap GoG key if you want to try it, Steam is overpriced right now.

Basically, I feel like I get fooled by the premise of the game, not the hype, not the bugs.

    From the marketing, I expect an immersive role-playing game. And because the origin of Cyberpunk is the pen & paper itself. Plus you can create "your V". There was so much hype on how detail you can customize your character (which turns out to be not much). You can choose your "Life path", you can live in the "Night City". But that doesn't matter because;

"V": - although you can customize your look, you won't feel that you play "your V". The dialog choices are just different ways of a preset "V" would say. Don't get me wrong, choices still are made to determine the outcome, but that is it. Look at Mass Effect, Fallout, Outer Worlds, the dialog choices in those games are not only there to pick the outcome, but they also reflect the different personalities of how you want to role-play your character. And by the way, there is no way you can change your appearance after starting the game. I mean "really"? We are in a Cyberpunk world where getting a human enhancement is like going to a dentist. Even in 1890 Red Dead Redemption 2 you at least have a barber...

"Life path" - This is just an addition to the point in the dialog above. Dialog base on the background will pop up in conversation to sometimes help the situation, but that's about it. So, I guess the real difference is the short first part of the start of the game.

"Night City" - I love how it looks. The density. The art and style. But there is just "nothing to do". I know there are loads of side quests. But as I mentioned that I expect the "role-playing", I thought there will be more of a "Night City activities" to do. (Like at least you have hunting/fishing in a fake RPG game like RDR2).

So, if this game would make itself clearer that it will be Wicherpunk 2077. I would not feel let down. Because in Witcher you know you will play as "Geralt". You cannot change his look. The dialog choices are what Geralt would say, just in different ways. You'd know it is a softcore role-playing game that focuses on the story and skills rather than role-plays, and that's nothing wrong with that. That's why Witcher 3 is a great game.

Finally, the good? Basically, the thing that Witcher 3 has done, a good story. That's why I won't rate this as negative. If I didn't get fool by the premise and all the media, it would get a better rating from me. So from this point on, CD Project Red really establish their view of "what is RPG" according to them, and I won't get fooled again.

Considering this title has been advertised as THE next generation RPG, character customisation is mediocre at best...there are no sliders, parts and colour choice is very limited and you can't change your body height and size at all...but you can choose between a small and big penis...I ended up creating a character that I don't like and doesn't feel mine, which in an RPG is pretty bad.Considering this title has been advertised as THE next generation RPG, character customisation is mediocre at best...there are no sliders, parts and colour choice is very limited and you can't change your body height and size at all...but you can choose between a small and big penis...I ended up creating a character that I don't like and doesn't feel mine, which in an RPG is pretty bad.

Night city looks good but as you walk its streets you pass by many cool shops and locations which you can't enter or interact with because they are all fake making the whole experience very disappointing.

Weather effects like rain are very poor, while sunlight is way too strong, especially when you drive a car using the interior camera, it completely blinds you, turning everything that is outside pure white.

NPCs animations range from ok and smooth to stiff, stuttering, and buggy. Filler NPCs are full of bugs and glitches and extremely basic on par with much older games.

NPCs density is no where near the one showed in the trailers (max setting); I've found a plaza where the density was pretty good, but truth is, most of the times you see only 2-4 NPCs or vehicles per street ; also where the density is high, it's very easy to see multiple clones in just a few meters.

Again, they advertised this as THE next generation open world RPG, and yet it is exactly like GTA V, beside the missions there is very little to do or interact with...I guess they are saving the cool stuff for the online version? Because, you know, microtransactions...

The UI is good but there are some very annoying features.
The mouse cursor is a huge blue square with a grid and a minus symbol on it, that completely fails at pointing and selecting things without actually covering them.
If you scroll down while reading a mission and then select another mission the scroll bar doesn't reset, so you have to scroll back up.
When you're inside any menu there is an electronic whistle and a bip sound that repeat every 10 seconds driving you crazy...on the other hand crafting and dismantling are strangely silent.
    Finally shortcuts are not consistent.

    Controls have problems too.
Interacting is done through the F button instead of the classic E and you can't rebind it unless you hack it.
Skipping scenes is done with C, but it's also used for other things, so you might accidentally skip dialogues and scenes.
There is no clear shortcut button to sheathe your weapons nor a walk button.
There is a button to accept phone calls but there isn't one to decline them and if you don't respond because you're busy, the phone call starts anyway.

Cars handling is dreadful...the game is set in the future and yet the cars handle like an automobile from the 80s with very high and soft suspensions, making the car wobbling around like crazy.
Vehicle damage is random and when vehicles crash into each other they bounce around like they are made of plastic. Finally there are no flying vehicles and the interior seat is far too low.

Shooting and melee fighting seem fine, although there are bugs.

Sound effects are okay, while music goes from great and appropriate to absolutely horrendous and out of place. There are radio stations like in GTA, so you can pick the genre you prefer.

The story has been great so far, but something I didn't like at all is that when you're introduced to your first companion, instead of letting you create a bond with him while playing the game, they show you a 1 minute video clip montage of you and him doing activities together forcing his friendship down your throat.

The game is infested with bugs.
I saw NPCs talking with their mouth closed, sliding around, running against walls, stuck in a T pose, playing animations that require objects while said objects are either missing or static or duplicated in mid-air.
I saw NPCs shot in the air Skyrim style, others instantly teleported outside a vehicle and then launched across the sky at light speed while the vehicle kept going in the opposite way.
Vehicles fail their path and crash or run over you and other NPCs.
The police attacked me for no reason even though I was distant and minding my own business.
Running sometimes doesn't make any noise; also if you sprint along the fence of a bridge your character can automatically jump off the bridge committing suicide.
Sometimes when you jump over an object your character is stuck in a landing animation.
The main quest can completely brake, same goes for the radar.
Switching weapons can completely break your hands.
You can kill people sitting in a car from outside through a closed door with a melee weapon.
    Items can glitch preventing looting.

The last time I saw a game this bugged was Fallout 76...

it's not a bad game, but it's not as good as they advertised either, and I honestly don't see how can you call this THE next generation open world RPG when most of the features are barely on par with much older games.

tl;dr: good game made by a lying publisher that needs a NASA computer to run at 60+fps.

If you don't have an RTX card, you won't get a locked 60fps experience. Period. That should tell you something. CDPR straight up lied to consumers (on multiple fronts), hid the real-world state of the game from reviewers and consumers, deliberately lied about how the game runs on 1/4 of the platforms

No, you didn't read that wrong, it's a good game. It's a really, REALLY cool world with interesting stories, characters, and gameplay. It's just not what we were promised, feature or optimization-wise, and it's a real shame that the majority of people won't be able to actually experience it because it was only optimized for hardware that nobody can currently buy.

The AI is horrible, constantly doing weird things. I don't feel the background story is really well made and the lifepaths seem to make a very minuscule difference. The loot system is bloated, with too many items dropping and just not very well made and polished all around. The music is good, but too much modern rap and celebrity nonsense! I would have given it a 7, as a mediocre game, but releasing a game in this state is a shame, especially when sold on the premise of being an enjoyable and playable experience. It is a pity, given how much time has been spent on making this game. Disappointed Expand

Cons: Boring world, boring vehicle action, boring combat, boring loot, ridiculous unforgivable bugs (even as late as 3/22/21) , Keanu’s phoned-in performance, Sopranos-themed voice for the male player character

This game’s hype was legendary. Sadly, it will go down as one the biggest failures of all time, gaming or otherwise. The bugs were annoying and completely unforgivable. It was so bad that now my strategy for all future releases of CD Project Red will be to wait at least 6 months before playing any of their games, if I don’t wait long enough to buy it at a 50% discount.

Bugs aside, I came into this experience expecting something comparable to the Witcher 3. It was not. The main character was not someone I cared about; his companions I had little empathy for. The story and side quests were not captivating. The game itself was interesting enough to keep me moderately entertained for about 10 hours. The final 20 hours were a chore, and I stopped playing for a few months after the 20 hour mark. The only thing I liked about this game were the romance options. The relationship-building via quest chain was more fleshed out than other titles.

The main problem is not bugs and glitches because those will get fixed soon. The problem is that the game is flawed at its core. The open world is dead, there are no people around, the mission design is old and lazy and it actually destroys any opportunity of actually roleplaying. I feel completely disconnected from my V, not only because I cannot change my appearance in any way, but also because I am given pretty much no significant chances of developing any personality.

The mainstory falls completely off the rails during mid-game. For an rpg the story is very linear with almost no meaningful choices or interesting branches. At the end of the game the player can only decide which way he wants to die:

A: as disabled person, with a 6 months life expectancy
B: as digital copy, reuploaded into your brain wiped body, also with a 6 months life expectancy
C: as digital copy, going into cyberspace and leaving your body to the terrorist Johnny Silverhand

It's an action game with very linear quests that you don't actually have multiple ways of completing. Dialog choices might lead to different outcomes in some cut scenes sometimes, but the actual meat of the quests are just linear maps that you either half assed sneak through past dumb af NPC's, or just blast through the same area.

The game looks pretty most of the time. It's like playing GTA mixed with Fallout, which is fine, it's fun.. But it's not the Cyberpunk 2077 we were promised whatsoever.

Yes, it succeeded but if all players are disappointed and critics write fake reviews what's the point? Cyberpunk is way into RPG and grinding not actually "immersing" yourself into Night City. Everything in the game feels like it tries its hardest to keep you doing the story campaign because everything else is just not interactable or not working. You will notice the not-done-right parts when you get into ANY conversation. There is just one line that keeps the talk progressing, other (blue) options are optional and they put you back to choose the yellow option. You. Do. Not. Have. Control. Over. Anything. The only thing I admire is that you get additional options from time to time depending on your origin (nomad, corpo or streetkid) but that comes rarely. The NPCs you are talking to will wait for your response and will repeat some phrase and not do anything else until you answer them(the cop woman said that she doesn't have all day and still she waited me to click the response for two hours in real time). The story is fine, I will give them that, but everything else is just a watered down version of what we were promised. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is not easy to write as I am one of the fans who was deeply invested in buying this game and diving into the Cyberpunk world I’ve been a huge fan of for years. It’s almost soul crushing to go from all of the hype and excitement, reading up on backgrounds and brushing up on lore only to be left in sheer and utter disappointment.
The game starts off and feels unique, but that unique and exciting feeling runs out quickly after 20 minutes. Why? It feels as though regardless of what life path you choose- it all ends the same. There is no separate story to dive into, nothing ground-breaking to explore, and no true RPG element to the life paths.
The city itself was well done and the design gives off a nice cyberpunk metropolis. The lighting and sound are nice, but due to the performance level the game runs on it leave a lot to be desired.
The guns, and action gameplay feels incomplete-although the crafting and gun mechanics seem well put together.
Enemies feel bullet-spongey and the AI is a joke as with the rest of the games’ AI.
In short-mainly because this game is such a bitter disappointment I can’t bring myself to finish this review-this game and us fans deserved far more and far better from CDPR. Lies, empty promises, and false information has indeed tainted this experience for myself and many others.

This game failed to deliver, it is not what CD PROJEKT RED led us to believe it would be.

Life paths have no meaningful impact on the game, they add flavour dialog and a couple of unique quests and do not majorly alter the game as was promised. Dialog choices are more illusion than anything as they lead to the same outcome.

The AI is bare bones, in combat enemies will just sit there while you take your sweet time head shooting them, police spawn out of the thin air and don't react to gun fire from gangs shooting over their heads. theirs’s no police car chases either. No bounty hunters, max-tac coming after you. They simply can't chase you in vehicles and have you noticed there are no other bikes on the road only in scripted events.

Crafting Is imbalanced and unrewarding. You can craft clothing mods from basic components and disassemble them into more advanced components. somehow you can disassemble consumables like soda drinks and craft high tech weapons from them which makes zero sense.

Upgrading weapons only offer a small increase in damage and becomes ridiculously expensive. when upgrading legendary weapons you use very expense components for an extra 10 points of damage etc. This feature was meant to allow the player to keep their favourite guns but is not even remotely balanced for this.

Hacking is overpowered which is not helped by the dumb AI and the minigame itself becomes very tedious.

The perk tree is all over the place. some give 50% extra headshot damage while others give 3% extra damage. a lot of the icons don't match what the perk provides. it is full of padding. One perk disassembles valuable junk together with the common junk costing the player 1000's in money. Skills should add interesting mechanics and abilities.

Driving is a mess, the POV when driving first person is messed up on a lot of cars you can barely see over the steering wheel. breaking is almost none existent. Some time you are blinded by daylight when driving first person, this is more common in the Badlands.

The arm augmentations which where advertised as game changing like gorilla arms allowing you force open doors is no longer a feature though the item description is still there.

Inventory is a nightmare to organise. It would have made more sense to find the gun with a standard skin and allow the player customise it ourselves. Levelled guns and armour means you are constantly changing guns I think I spent most of my time going through my inventory. Late game rare and epic guns drop all the time which makes them feel common and not like epic loot.

Bugs everywhere, T-posing pedestrians, car drivers, in cut scenes etc. floating cigarettes, guns, frame rate drops. Cars driving through wall, sliding nps in cutscenes. Dead still talking to the player, dying when jumping down 4 feet, dropping off the top of ladders. grenades not been thrown when pressing the button.

I could go on but the main thing is this game is not what CD PROJEKT RED promised and is an average game.

But here's where the conflict arises - the game isn't sandbox enough to let you carve out your own story. Many buildings in the city remain inaccessible, which I understand from a workload perspective, but it still feels like a facade. The main story, in my opinion, isn't great and feels quite tedious, falling short of the benchmark set by Witcher 3.

Despite this, I've spent about 50 hours enjoying most of what the game offers. It's rare to find a game that can hold my attention for this long, but I can't shake the feeling that it could have been the best game of all time.

However, almost a year after its release, the developers haven't fully delivered on their promises. Whenever I think of Cyberpunk 2077, I'm left with a sense of disappointment, a lingering aftertaste of what could have been, and a sense of betrayal by the marketing.

Underneath all the bugs and glitches, this game lacks depth. They'll patch the game inevitably, but it won't change the cut content, the myriad of missing features, the wonky AI and shallow game mechanics, the repetitive side missions, lack of actual game changing player choice, the half baked life paths, weak rpg elements, and the lack of deep customization. The game should've been released 3 to 5 years from now, it simply was not ready. My frustrations are not targeted towards the devs they were crunched to absolute disgusting levels to push out a game that wasn't nearly ready. Sure, the game was announced 8 years ago, but it truly didn't start development until 2016 or 2017. The rushed nature and half baked feeling of is game is due to toxic management, extreme crunch, corporate greed, pressure from shareholders etc. I truly do wonder what this game would've been like had it been finished and was the game they advertised. Unfortunately it might take a couple years to be the game we all wanted it to be, until then I shall be leaving Night City until it becomes the game it was meant to be.

TLDR: There are some great moments in this game, it has a great aesthetic, deep and engaging story, well written characters, interesting lore, killer soundtrack, and a truly well detailed world. Unfortunately it is extremely unfinished, with performance issues, bugs and glitches, horrible npc AI, and too much cut content and missing features/mechanics. The devs at CDPR truly wanted to create a groundbreaking experience, you can feel the ambition and passion at times in the game. Unfortunately they weren't given enough time to flesh out their vision. I would not recommend this game in it's current state 5/10

It is greatly disappointing to look at the consequences of their failure, as it is rather evident that this product has astonishing potential. Of course, such lamenting is meaningless at this point.

The game is 'playable', and can be entertaining, despite all the limiting factors. I myself in fact enjoyed the gameplay, however if someone asks me if I would recommend purchasing it, the answer is NO. The more you play, the more antagonising it becomes. After seeing numerous Action RPGs released after Skyrim that introduced new mechanics, I would have expected Cyberpunk to be the same level as the modern RPGs.

in essence it is like an empty shell and inside this shell is missing many things that I have written here:

    - No animation present in item loots.

    - Lootable objects in the game world are not subject to ownership rules, you can take anything without anyone telling you or doing anything.

    - Related to the first point: total lack of physical property boundaries where objects are contained, except for the areas where there are enemies, but that is due to enmity towards people and not from the place where they reside.

    - The only "containers" where you can take items are the crates and lockers. In 2077 probably the sideboards, wardrobes etc. they were not used.

    - Most of the buildings are not explorable. You can only visit two / three floors in buildings that are 100,000 miles tall. The elevators were probably poorly designed in 2077.

    - Economy of Night city is close to non existing. Besides cyberware, implants and mods, there is not really a lot of reason to spend money on anything.

    - No robbery system in the open world. Only in quests.

    - Possibility to change the equipment in combat and crafting. It makes no sense that you can change clothes/weapons or crafting during a fight.

    - Objects and equipment (cyberware, weapons, clothes etc.) do not wear out and do not need to be repaired.

    - Eating too much or too little does not affect the physique (even a simple physical health system like that of red dead redemption 2 was enough).

    - The police don't catch you. It kills you!

    - The skill branch is poorly constructed because you can train skills by having the relative attribute low. For example it doesn't make sense that I can raise quickhacking skills if I have 3 in intelligence just by doing it.

    - The skill branch is poorly constructed because to mount cyberware I need a certain level of attribute, but they are cyber enhancements for a reason right?

    - Objects are placed totally randomly. For example it is possible to find ammunition next to a sandwich stand.

    - No system of upgrading or customization or repair of machines and motorcycles. To repair the car, just leave the car in a street and turn the corner of the street and call it remotely.

    - The levels are related only to our character. No other characters in the game have this characteristic, or at least it is not visible.

    - Badly constructed reputation system. There is no specific reputation for every gang in Night City. The reputation system is just another limitation to installing cyberware and doing some stuff. For what reason?

    - The choice to use specific skills in combat or to play in one way rather than another is not linked to a deep system of enemy characteristics but only to a personal choice, in fact with a simple gun, a lot of healing and a lot of ammunition you can face and kill anyone.

    - There are few worldly activities.

    - NPCs don't have a life of their own, the people of Night City are just hardcovers.

    - Talks with random NPCs absent.

    - Reactions of NPCs are strange.

    - Moral alignment of the character absent.

It has its moments of genuine excellence in the odd side quest but feels curiously like an amalgam of elements of various games hammered together not always successfully or coherently.

I get the impression that the game was meant to be a visual feast to cover over a whole host of things which just aren't quite 'right' but that feast is currently gated behind a fantasy PC build for most gamers, and even the next step down limited by supply of the GPUs with the needed features.

Personally, I was hoping for a game which would take on the cyberpunk genre with thought but this is really more in tune with Altered Carbon than Bladerunner 2049. You're left wondering whether subjects and issues are thrown in just for the tittilation rather than from any desire to engage seriously with them at any level beyond the most superficial.

In the end, I've found it to be a cluster of cliches bathed in ray traced lighting. As vapid and insubstantial as the clouds of smoke filling each room and corridor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A failure in storytelling
Not going to focus on bugs, non functional abilities or CDPR lying and producing a story mission for media purposes that was way cooler then the one in game.

    Instead talking about the story:
Biggest problem is the pacing. In a couple of weeks you`ll be dead so everything except that issue should be irrelevant. With that your whole open world goes to waste. Why create a bunch of side missions (which make up the bulk of the game) when you don`t have a reason to care. And if you choose to follow them and waste precious time, there are no consequences.

    Characters:
Jackies death is a complete waste. Didn`t move me at all. His calling card is beeing Mr-generic-goofy-nice-guy, yet he is supposed to be family. So let him and Mama Welles be family. Give us the opportunity to spend more time with him, doing jobs, exploring Watson at least, etc before starting the main mission. Could help with the pacing as well. Trigger Dexter with a certain level of street cred, so that we get some time to get to know the world and establish relationships.

Johnny has zero redeeming qualities. While you can easily antagonize him, the narrative of V and him getting along doesn`t work. No key moments, no development. All of a sudden it`s we`re cool now and I`d give you control over my body 3 times in a row. Also a lot of wasted potential regarding conflict. Let him take over and force a decision on V, the player doesn`t like. Give the player free reign to play as Johnny and act completely different, for a change. On top: Keanu might be a cool dude, might even have charisma but he`s not a very good actor.

    No attention to detail:
After abducting Hanako the reporter is talking about it right outside the market but when you enter an elevator, the same reporter is talking about the power failure.
Crimes commited in the Badlands results in police showing up, even though it`s nomansland.
Doing an NPCD job you can find orders from an NPC you already killed ages ago.
Planting a bug in Tyger Claw territory the mission is a success, even when you kill all the gangers, giving everybody a reason to be suspicious.

    Telling a story through reading:
NCPD missions present a variety of text, telling little tales and while being a nice touch, it`s excessive. Let me experience this through dialouge and choices, not by reading.

    No immersion:
People ducking and staying that way instead of running away. Cars not driving according to traffic lights and runing you over even with given the chance to stop. The city beeing flat out empty at times.

    First person:
Not a fan. With the importance of style and clothing, I don`t get the decision not to show it to the player.

    The phone:
Sometimes I get a call while beeing in a conversation and it`ll be accepted regardless. You trying to hide from Arasaka, yet every fixer got your number and gives you a call the second you enter his territory.

And 1000ish more complaints: not being able to create and save various outfits, netrunning beeing undrwhealming, life paths don`t matter, side missions beeing basically the same, no consequences at all, no actvities....

All in all shallow and disappointing. Only time the game made me feel anything was the suicide ending.

The bugs I experience with a good PC rig, are mainyl graphical and not game breaking, although I had some that needed a bit workaround. But I think those can be fixed, from the stupid loot (literally too much loot), to the AI that is unresponsive at best and through so many scrapped features. I still think it will need some polish, but as it stands, on the PC, I really like the game and the more I play it, I like it more. It was lukewarm at best at first glance, but it really needs time I guess.
That being said, the console launch is a disaster and huge stain on CDPR's reputation they need to face and more importantly, fix the damn game, so even on consoles, people can play it.
Solid 9/10 so far, will see further on.

edit: I finished the game. And then I replayed it. And then it clicked me. This game is mediocre at best. From the first playtrought I wasn't so sure about the replayability, then I replayed it. And it has none. There are no decisions that matters, simple as that. Going throught the apologies and with how much had been promised... The more I played the more it became evident that this game is just hot mess. A well marketed hot mess with plenty of things scrapped. Fix the game, add the features, otherwise it will die out. Just like Anthem did. 5/10 at best. That describes how mediocre the game is, if I played on console I cannot even pretend that I would have given more than 0, since what I read, it is near unplayable.

I'm not going to complain about bad perfromance ,because that's what everybody already knows.
My problem is more a fundamental problem, like the city...compared to the Witcher 3, you can't do
much really in Nightcity... I'm not talking about the quests and missions but interaction with the city
are non-excistent, a few joy toys and places to buy food. I was expecting to get brain dances everywhere,
take people to the appartment to have sex, pick up joy toys in every neighbourhood ,and dance to music in
lots and lots and lots of places, take a taxi home with someone as i've said...just do freak bad ass fun stuff!

But all this is a smoke screen, I know a few game studio's who could have made this game in 2 years
    man!!!
I knew it when they annouched cyberpunk 2077 would be first person perspective, that the game would
fundamentally different from anything cdpr had done before!
cdpr should have sticked to the 3rd person perspective and make the game work with guns etc, the Witcher
3 is beloved by many for obvious reasons!
That said, the game doesn't know what it wants to be, it's not a rpg and it's not a first person shooter, and
it's not a first person adventure game either... and if you think away all the great missions the game
trows at you, you keep rather shallow night city that tries to impress you with nothing, and much

Cyberpunk is by no means a bad game ,the game had its few great moments but its clear as crystal that the game is simply an unfinished mess and im completely ignoring the buggs here ,Cyberpunk tries to be many things but fails at pretty much all of them ,the world is stunningly beautiful but at the same time its lifeless that its even haunting ,gangs ,NCPD and Trauma team add nothing toCyberpunk is by no means a bad game ,the game had its few great moments but its clear as crystal that the game is simply an unfinished mess and im completely ignoring the buggs here ,Cyberpunk tries to be many things but fails at pretty much all of them ,the world is stunningly beautiful but at the same time its lifeless that its even haunting ,gangs ,NCPD and Trauma team add nothing to the game ,some of the character related side quests are GOAT tier but most of it are some Ubisoft tier fetch and kill quests that are no where near as good as the contracts from The Witcher 3 ,NPCs and police system are not just bad they are completely broken even after the patches ,the story had its great moments and the characters were phenomenal but the pacing is extremely fast it feels like its summarizing a story rather than experiencing and entire story ,it takes only 18-20 hours to beat it which is a far cry compared to the witcher 3 which had 50 hour main quest ,the gameplay is kinda meh ,its not bad but its not great and the RPG mechanics and choices are basically none existent and are just there ,its also quite jarring how much potential content is there but you cant interact with ,not even a single mini game.

the problem with Cyberpunk is that it tries to be many things but fails at pretty much all of them.
You want an open world with deep RPG mechanics where your choices mean something? Play Fallout NV
You want to play an open world game with an amazing story and a lively open world? Play RDR 2
You want to play a Cyberpunk game? Play the Deus ex series
You want a great open world game with amazing side quests? Play The Witcher 3
You want to play a smaller open world game that is filled with amazing mini games? Play Yakuza 0
You want to play an open world game with a much better police system? Play GTA
You want to play an open world RPG with meaningful choices ,character customization freedom that rewards you for it and a great faction system? Play Fallout New vegas
again im not saying Cyberpunk is bad its just that there are much better games out there.

Cyberpunk 2077, the game that has been in development for the past 8 years...

One of the most anticipated and hyped up games for a long time now.
Did it deliver you ask? Well... yes and no...

If you solely play this game for the story and combat aspect of this game, you will like it.
Story is great, you feel connected with the protagonist V since you make all the dialogue choices, making the main protagonist quite a bit more personal to yourself.

And the combat aspect is fun with a lot of different ways to mow down any enemy that you come across. Whether you want to go sneakily around your enemies and assassinate them with your silenced weapon or just make a lethal takedown, or if you wish to go berserk and mangle them with your mantis blades, you can do so as well.

But if you are here for anything other than that? I wouldn't really bother getting this game.

    - First point, character customisation. There are no place where you can change the way your character looks, except for the character creation screen. Why is this? No idea, but once you have set your character, you are stuck with it. No changing hair, tattoos or any of that sort.

    - Second point is animations. This is supposed to be an open world RPG, yet there are no animations for when you eat food or drink beverages. No animation for when you install cybernetics on your character.

And then we have the small things like the vending machines, where when you order a soda, I was expecting a soda can to pop out of the machine. What popped out instead? Some default object for food & beverages. This is not what I expect from a game that showed soda cans popping out of the vending machines in their demos.

Am I being nitpicky? Probably, but remember, the devil is in the details, and I'm not asking for something revolutionary, I'm simply asking for what was promised and shown in the demos.

    - Third point, world A.I. The A.I. in this game is just straight up stupid. You do the slightest thing, and they all panic, even accidentaly double tapping so you dodge will make them panic. And then the lack of dialogue the A.I. has is just boring. All in all, they are on the same level (and worse) than the A.I. you find in GTA V.

    [TL;DR]
Game is okay, but only buy it of you are in it for the story. Combat is good. The rest, not so good. If I were a random person who's kind of interested in this game, watch gameplay on youtube, or watch a streamer (e.g. do some research) before making your decision on whether you are going to purchase it or not.

Okay so up until now I have been defending Cyberpunk and focusing more on the story and tried to ignore all the glitches and stuff but I just can't anymore.
This game was first announced in May 2012. That's over 8 years, actually closer to 9 years... ALMOST 9 YEARS!
Okay, let's say it would be understandable if the game was in development for 3 years and people would be pressuring them

Okay, let's say it would be understandable if the game was in development for 3 years and people would be pressuring them to release the game and of course it would be buggy and unfinished. BUT ALMOST 9 YEARS!
I don't even know where to start... The performance is absolutely awful, like I understand there is a lot of details but come on... I'm not running on the best PC, I am somewhere mid-range, i5 7400, 16GB DDR4, and RX 560 4GB, I can still run a lot of mainstream titles on high settings and get good fps. But with Cyberpunk I have to play it at low settings, 720p, and I'm barely hitting 30-40 fps. That's insane.
It's true that too much hype was going to be the downfall for this game because no game can live up to those expectations, but I did not expect to be this disappointed, mainly with performance and glitches and just overall an unpolished game.
The game has a good story I will give it that, but the glitches and performance just distract you and it breaks the immersion.
Also, the way they lied about the performance on the last-gen consoles is so **** dumb. Like how the **** is a normal PS4 going to run the game at 30 fps when a mid-range PC can barely hit 30 at the lowest possible settings. Holy **** At first, I was defending and feeling bad for CDPR but they deserve what they are getting, they deserve the lawsuits. Don't get me wrong I don't wish harm to the developers but to the people who are in charge. They deserve all the **** they are getting.
I really like the story, it has flaws, but let's be honest it's the only good thing that the game has as of right now. I am almost done with the story but it was partly ruined because of all the bugs and immersion-breaking glitches.
Personally, I will wait a few months for new patches and updates, maybe even a year, I just want to see the game for what it's supposed to be. And it's really a waste that it had to be like that.

The best metaphor for Cyberpunk 2077 is Johnny Silverhand himself. A messiah, a mix of Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara, a talented singer who loves to shape his own legend and has a charming personality but loses the struggle with his own demons. The same goes for the game. It tells a great story and forced me to ask myself difficult questions, but many of its gameplay mechanics do not evolve and its technical state upon release was abysmal. Cyberpunk’s true hero is not a person, but Night City – a vibrant, living creature of great diversity. The beauty of the metropolis is striking. [01/2021, p.22]

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most disturbing and mind-blowing RPGs in history, where every decision has a deep impact on our trail. CD Projekt RED tosses us to the center of a city filled with disgusting delights where every character deserves our attention in an immersive experience and overall, very rewarding. From the sarcastic and shadowy tone imposed by the countless scenes in the game, to the flexibility we have on the choices to face every situation that is presented, Night City is truly memorable. It’s a shame that the countless bugs spoil or diminish the impact of some resounding moments, but we are without a question, in the presence of one of the best games in 2020.

Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them. But all in all, despite the countless small weaknesses and inconsistences, with interesting characters, great story and dialogues or the freedom concerning gameplay, CD Projekt delivers a unique and great RPG that every fan of the genre needs to play.
