Aside from a brilliant engine there is a very solid well designed FPS game with a few tricks up its sleeve to make it great. The nano suit adds greater freedom to complete objectives with in the large detailed maps. With such freedom emergent gameplay is there to have.
Performance will be a problem for some including myself but a stable <20 fps is all you need to enjoy playing.

Crysis is a great FPS built on a brilliant engine and provides many ways to complete most objectives providing a compelling experience due to it and you can`t fault the production.

My system is far from high-end and the fact that you need a ridiculously expensive rig to play it as it was intended is a point that has been made to death and by far too many people. My problem is not that I can't run it on high settings, but that medium settings look awful. Some of the textures look really poor but the worst thing for me is the insane amount of aliasing. Jaggies really spoil games for me and Crysis is full of them unless you have the hardware to turn AA on. Additionally, it gives me an average framerate only of around 20fps. Now, I'm not just complaining because someone made a game that I can't play as it was meant to be played, but i know that my PC is capable of more than this. I can run COD4 with all the graphics settings cranked up to full and it runs like a dream and looks beautiful, averaging about 45fps. My point is: Crysis is a very lazily made game and it feels like I'm playing a beta, it could really do with some optimising. Expand

Brilliant game. It brings a very unique experience that Call of duty 4, halo 3 and other FPS's haven't brought. The amount of freedom allowed is excellent and means you won't always have the same result with each different enemy. The stealth is average, when people see you in a bush 50 yards away it is a bit silly. Graphics deserve a 10/10, even on medium they are better Brilliant game. A really average shooter with good graphics, if you can afford to drop 3 grand on a new pc. Far Cry was a better game by leaps and bounds. My pc is about a year old and I can only run it on medium and believe me it looks awful. These new "photorealilisitc" games like Crysis and Bioshock are proof that graphics really are not a substitute for good gameplay.

Those who are unaffected by the massive hype surrounding the release of this supposed photo-realistic game will probably see Crysis as a rehash of old, tried and tested but now boring gameplay mixed with a graphics engine that looks nice but seems to have completely missed the point that the graphics are there to assist the gameplay, not the other way around.

Yea the A.I. is sometimes stupid and will just run to random places with no cover, but try and name any game where the A.I. is flawless. If you try and notice, if you have been spotted by launching a shoulder mounted RPG into a village of KPA officers and resort to hiding in a building afterwards, the A.I. WILL flank you from all sides. You'll find yourself laughing when you pick off a few enemies, then hiding, then getting shot at from all sides as you run around the edges of a village looking for more ammo. Plus theres a range of missions where you an drive civilian cars, KPA armored jeeps, tanks, and planes. With the addition of the NANO suit you wear, you'll have fun sneaking up behind enemies with your cloaking mode, switching to strength mode and flinging enemies across the forest. Crysis is worth the buy as long as you have the system to run it. My only Con is that unless your playing on NASA's supercomputers, your not gonna get to play on Very High settings. Give me a game that lets you destroy more of your environment than Crysis. Then let's see everyone stop complaining. Has anyone noticed that the entire plot is MEANT to throw a single American super-soldier into hordes of Korean soldiers? It's a complete mash-up of every Rambo-style plot out there, aliens and all, except with this one, the enemy is smart enough to avoid being torn down one-by-one, and actively flanks and hunts you down to be sure you don't. Does Call of Duty 4 have intelligent enemies who actively hunt you, using flanking maneuvers and every trick of the tactician's sleeve? Absolutely not, it throws waves of stupid, utterly scripted baddies at you. But like Crysis, it's a rampant blow-everything-up gunfest. The thing is: In Crysis, you have to think about your situation. Play the game on harder difficulties, and the active, sensory AI becomes quite a challenge to take on as just a single Rambo. Unlike the game's detractor's, if one can think about how they use their suit - cloaking in bursts, using strength for stealth kills and jumping getaways, speeding from cover to cover - Crysis can become quite a thrilling shooter experience. You're constantly on your toes in a combat situation, and recon is a recommended strategy - don't expect to rush head-first into the fray as in Call of Duty and expect to do anything productive. My only complaints come from the shoddy Korean voicework (especially on General Kyong), and the nigh-impossible tank controls. When you reach Onslaught on harder difficulties, I wholly recommend ditching the tank for speed/cloak, and planting C4 charges on enemy tanks. One last thing - the helicopters may be absolutely annoying, but if you know what you're doing, it's possible to avoid provoking an airstrike altogether. That's what counts - diversity of gameplay. Single player campaign is nicely textured and not quite as linear as is usual for an FPS - there are often multiple ways to reach your objectives. Not much new to be had though, there's no game element that stands out as particularly innovative once you've got past the sheer beauty of the environment. Multiplayer in particular is a bit meh, there are a million FPS offerings and this just isn't one of the best online ones. Still gets a 9 from me, but it's mostly a shallow 9 for its looks.

    (SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW)
The first half/two thirds of the game, when you're fighting the NK forces is really, really good. Superb gunplay, excellent environment and there is so much fun to be had with explosives. Never before have I had such fun by blowing up buildings, or blowing up anything, really. Explosions Is one thing Crysis does REALLY well, and not just in the graphical department. The start of the war (destroying the AAA in the harbour is the most intense battle I've ever seen in a game). The tank section is exhilarating and explosive, especially due to all the free rocket launchers everywhere. Funny how nobody mentions the mountain collapsing (revealing the alien fortress thing) behind the battle. Having the characters mention that might have been a good move, or even just adding radio chatter.

After entering the alien structure, things go steadily downhill for the most part. The aliens themselves are a bit boring to fight, really, with all the dynamics that made fighting the NK forces removed, the zero-gravity just feels too much like fighting underwater to make you forget about the jungle. The environment is a bit samey and disorienting, although I guess some of that was intentional due it it being "alien". If they had removed the "auto-orientate upwards" thing (perhaps by adding a button for that), it might have been a little more interesting.

In the ice sphere, gameplay improves somewhat. The alien grunt machines are more interesting to fight than the aliens themselves, but I'd still prefer the NKs (where did they all go, anyway? You don't see any of them after entering the alien machine). The way the ice sphere stops the minigun from overheating was a cool addition here. Nice design on the alien weapon Prophet gives you, especially how he added an RIS rail to it. I'm a sucker for alien/human hybrid weapons though. The environment is visually interesting, what with the extreme cold (bushes crack as you walk through them, instead of bustling out of your way) and geological upheaval. Fighting the alien flyers was cool too, like less predictable helicopters, and their deaths were cool too, what with the trailing "legs".
Exiting the sphere: The on rails shooty bit was okayish, shame they killed off the other two jeeps. Makes the whole bit pointless. Environment is pretty much the same as inside the sphere, but with no ice. Manning the AA gun was cool, shame it couldn't move. The missiles should have been homing, too, but the power of the main gun made up for that - seeing the alien flyers drop like flies gives you a nice feeling of kickass. This is removed when an indestructible alien walker comes along and kills pretty much everyone.

Leaving the island: Did I mention the game is super-duper "HOO-AH!" towards the US Military? Practically everything the US forces do make you want to give a big "HELL YEAH!" (even if you're a reserved English gentleman), namely the way your character announces that he is "U.S. Special Forces", the start of the tank level, the airstrikes, and the Marine Major who dies machinegunning the giant alien walker. Terrific fun. After retreating to the VTOL, you pilot it through a bunch of convenient canyons (rather slowly, this thing should have been much nippier [turbo was practically useless], and the controls - it should have flown upwards when you pointed up, not when you pressed space!) while blasting away at alien flyers with homing missiles and a cannon with unlimited ammo. The air-to-air combat was really fun, and is the last high point of the gameplay.

You land on the carrier, and this is where Crysis pulls a "talky level", showing off the super-realistic faces, facial animation and general character excellence. I noticed a glitche with the animaton here though, occasionally a characters legs would be "desynched" and would jerk for a second before returning to normal. The cutscene in CDC had a pause in it too, after which the Admiral continued mouthing wordlessly because his line had already been played. Overall a decent level, with nice atmosphere and graphics (zero gameplay of course). The nuclear explosion was a bit of a letdown though, especially for a game that does explosions so well otherwise.

The aliens finally attack the naval task force, you fight them off, everyone dies (including the Admiral, whose death is once again cool and redeems him for the mistake of a nuclear attack). The environment of the doomed carrier was okay, acceptable use of the flames, although adding a variable listing could have made it feel much more "in danger at sea". The alien walker battle was a bit badly designed, I expected to be able to kill it from behind, but it could only be damaged from the front. Getting frozen was a bit aggravating too. The super-final boss was a bit boring, (it's big cannon should have blown the Carrier superstructure to bits instead of... no noticeable visual effect. I guess they'd run out of budget by this point), and the nuclear grenade launcher you carry didn't look as pretty as it should have. Once it is defeated, you get picked up by Psycho and whatshername in a VTOL and escape, cue ending cutscene. Very poor ending, I thought.

    IN CONCLUSION:
Game stops being incredibly awesome when you enter the alien structure, and drops to merely being a good shooter. Up to that point, though, it's probably the best shooter I've ever played. Definitely worth your money, because what with the super-easy-to-mod engine, we'll be seeing some cool modifications.

I've probably listed the faults in such a way that exaggerates them, they're really not all that bad. The game is incredible. Apologies for stupid length of this review.

The weapons were amazing, the suits not only looked fucking sexy as hell! But also included amazing abilities, that suited not only certain conditions, but also certain play styles, like stealthy (as I'm more of a Metal Gear Solid fan), or "Rambo" style... etc.
But now we come to the bad

The weapons were amazing, the suits not only looked fucking sexy as hell! But also included amazing abilities, that suited not only certain conditions, but also certain play styles, like stealthy (as I'm more of a Metal Gear Solid fan), or "Rambo" style... etc.

But now we come to the bad part of my review.
I'm going to start with, what I am calling the, "fists of fury" inaccuracy.
In the game, your suit allows you to temporarily, Very temporarily, increase body functions, armour or become invisible.
So during the later parts of the game, In one of the alien missions, you encounter these VERY Matrix's "Sentinel" looking creatures, they even spread their tentacles to walk along the ground and attack you. I was being swarmed by about 3 of them, firing my weapon madly at them, throwing grenades and everything, Sparks were flying off them, but they still wouldn't die. But as one crawled closer to me, the "grab enemy" icon come up, So I grabbed this squirming robotic alien creature, And began punching it (because your weapon will automatically switch to fists when grabbing something large) and found if you increase your strength, and continue punching it, you'll actually deal A LOT more damage, than with your bolt action, precision sniper rifle, or your under-slung grenade launcher.

And the characters for the Game were such stereotypical action movie characters. Even though you're a Special forces squad, and I know for a fact you ALWAYS work in, or very close to your squad, in real life, for some reason, your higher ranking, and more experienced team leader, orders you to Leave the squad and attack a villiage of hostiles on YOUR OWN! It's stupid! I know the US army is dumb, But their Special forces aren't THAT dumb!
I'm about to talk about the story, so stop reading if you, strangely, want to play this game.
Towards the end of the game, you find yourself in the most obvious Hollywood scene ever. You've been saved by your best buddy, who you saw being dragged off and wounded by a large robot, but somehow lived; it never explained it.
You're then taken to a nearby aircraft carrier. where You're told to go to go to the bridge where you hear a general ordering a nuclear attack on the island, But an intelligent, and hot, researcher/scientist's daughter, is pleading him not to attack, because attacking them will only make them stronger. Anyway, the dumb American general talks about saving his "planet", Not his country, But his whole planet, and then disregarding ALL scientific evidence, research and suggestion, by nuking the whole island, and making them stronger and angrier... WOW! Big surprise, like that's not the over-used type of American character. That would never happen, it'd make too many other countries angry, including the Koreans who were also on the Island.
But then, after he admits he might have been wrong, nothing happens to him! You don't know if he lives or dies, because he orders you to go out on the deck, and fight the aliens that he just pissed off! When you come back, all the crew are gone! Some how they escaped while you were fighting the aliens.

And the Plot is just Stupidly and boringly close to Farcry's plot! It was exactly the same, except replace the mutated creatures with aliens... BAM! Same game, better graphics. That's it.

In Conclusion; The Graphics were amazing, and beautiful. The suit was modeled and animated beautifully, I often found myself stopping in combat, just to check out the suits. And the faces during the cinematics are so beautiful and realistic, You can actually see the emotions, It's an amazing feat.
And the special effects, were a great addition into helping to immerse me in the feel and atmosphere of the area.
The suits' abilities, the jungle areas and fooling the AI by running into a bush, cloaking then running out the other side were also very enjoyable.
So to the coders and the Artists, Well done! You guys deserve an award, or a medal. Especially the Artists, for all their amazing work. Well done.

But to the writers and game designers... Go write some low-budget horror films or action films in Hollywood, you'd fit right in with all the other senseless crappy plots. Don't write for games! The story is the same as Farcry's, the progression was WAY too fast, the change from Koreans to Aliens was dumb! Fighting the Koreans was the only fun part. Which is like the first level, so if you want to play the only good part of the game, get the demo... Seriously.

Some might say the abilty to cloak and the different enhancements are innovative, but they arent. while the enviroments, like i said before, look amazing, they are not used to their full potential like they were in Far Cry... they are mainly just there for eye candy. AI wise, this game is lacking, the biggest problem about the Nano-suit that i mentioned before is that the enemies hav no way of counteracting it. (especially the cloaking ability, that enemies can never detect, which you will fall back on so much as to the point it turns into a crutch). Some will also say the AI is great because they will attack you en mass use cover and turrets and once and a while lob a grenade. Except thats not great AI, thats average AI, and its nothing i havnt experienced before, especially since i play F.E.A.R. Half-Life and Halo. Considering how technically impressive this game is i expected so much more in the AI department. Lastly, while the physics were usually solid, there were to many glitches and "WTF" moments that just took away from the whole experience and stole you away from an otherwise mezmorizing enviroment (which was mainly the incredible graphics). To wrap everything up, this game is stuck in the past. Everything, other then the graphics, is something you've seen and done before and none of it is done all that well. Other then the graphics. I don't get it, I don't understand how so many people could say this game is over-hyped....I'm running it with a 3 year old system with the graphics set on low with a couple on medium and high and it has the most life like graphics I have ever seen, from the leaves on the tress to the tortoises crawling around, it's amazing. The nano-suit is really fun to use, I don't get it, I don't understand how so many people could say this game is over-hyped....I'm running it with a 3 year old system with the graphics set on low with a couple on medium and high and it has the most life like graphics I have ever seen, from the leaves on the tress to the tortoises crawling around, it's amazing. The nano-suit is really fun to use, it's powerful, but not so powerful that it breaks the game; it's simple and you can switch between the modes easily and quickly to perform complex actions like sprint up a hill, megajump and then cloak at the top. I see no major problems with the A.I. It has to track a player that is invisible a sizable amount of the time; the vehicle A.I. is a little strange, but that's only if you consider that the A.I. would rather stay in a vehicle rather than leave it, and that it continues to shoot at you with a vehicle mounted machine gun when your right next to the jeep, but he can still hit you there if he catches you; the same goes for boats. I had a moment where I was in the middle of 20-some North Koreans, so I threw a grenade at a group of them and cloaked and ran away while they were all staring at the explosion, after a bit they picked up on me and stalked me into a creek-bed and I almost didn't escape; I think that shows pretty good A.I. in a game. If I was walking the jungle with a gun looking for some jerk who just blew up my hut, it would take me more than a second to react if said guy appeared in front of me with a assault rifle. The wide expanse of this game allows for very open gameplay. In one instance you could ghost-ride a cargo truck into a command post of an enemy going at 60 to level it; in another, if you wish, you can get into a fortress by slowly infiltrating inbetween guards to get the information and get out without firing a shot. The physics in this game are almost as impressive as the graphics, especially the dynamic model dismemberment, which allows you to level trees and buildings with sometimes as little as your fists. This has come in handy often while playing for me; if I'm trapped in a building I can just switch to strength and punch a hole in the wall and leave through that hole. In the end, this game takes all the elements that have come about since Far Cry and it amplifies them, the graphics are undeniably the most advanced rendering gaming has ever seen, on PC or on Console. The newer physics they've added with structure and vegetation destruction are crazy, I personally spent 15 minutes leveling part of an island of tress just because I couldn't believe how far you could go with it, you can chop them into logs! You can punch a small tree and break it, grab it and use it for soft cover! If you throw a grenade above the forest it creates a realistic shock wave that ripples the leaves on the trees. I just don't see what could be more fun than jumping onto a building and having the roof shot away underneath you so you fall to the ground and immediately throw a grenade to a wall which explodes collapsing the building on-top of the enemies while you jump out of the hole they just shot in the ceiling; as far as action fps shooters go, that's all I could really ask for. Until they implement this kind of thing in a setting like GTA. The reason I gave it a 9 is because all of your squad members are outrageous stereotypes and talk like they're selling crack more than discussing covert-ops, the Koreans "english" voices sound cut straight out of Team America unless your playing on the absolute hardest difficulty, (something which I just don't feel like doing right now, if they had a switch between Korean and English I'd have it on Korean all the time) the grab mechanism is a little more sensitive than I'd like it and it disappointed me that when the frogs jump into the water they don't swim away; and this is really everything I dislike about this game, honestly, so far that's it, that and I don't have a $10,000 computer to run it on ultra, which isn't Cryteks fault. Now I understand there's going to be some people all huffy about it, but let me explain somethings that people have been touting about the game ad-nausium that just aren't true. 1) The Nano suit - acclaimed to be a new and innovative, I guess people forgot that Deus Ex paved the way on that one which had all the features the Crysis one did and more. It could be said to be implemented better, but is by no means a first or the greatest about it. Sure you could toss people objects, run fast, be invisible, but the game play will still for the most part come to, put armor on shoot, kill, resuply, move on. 2) The graphics - Yes impressive, for the most part I like how it looks, however, it does not reflect how the game plays nor does it fully assist in the game play. Jungle combat is primarily one sided, ie you don't see but are seen and easily shot. I have problems with the A.I. not being impeded visually by objects between player and enemy. As well there are some major clipping / texture issues with it. 3) AI - is for the most part a step, backwards. Sure it tries squad tactics, runs to use turrets and cover at times, but all too often I found it would give up to the point where I could walk up to enemies and shoot them. In one instance a boat gave up shooting at me because I was hiding behind a rock too long, to which I then swam out to it, jumped up on to it and had no resitance as I killed the occupants. Another instance, the boat driver got stuck driving into a rock. 4) Physics engine - is great over all, still some bugs as an enemy soldier died with his hand in a latice fence where the soldier, fence and a door where unable to settle for a time. Another phyics glitch happened as I approched a demolished building which did not settle where upon standing too close to a stuttering roof part killed me. The game needs work. The sys requirements should be primary. It's nice of them to make an engine for the future, but we're living in present as well should have some substance in present games. Expand

Also, the gameplay is above and beyond that of any other FPS on the market. It is open-ended, it can be played in any number of fashions, be it stealth mode, or run and gun, and above all else, it's fun. The story may be cliched, but executed very nicely nonetheless. Really, nothing much different than how HL2, Halo, or any other number of FPS games stories have played out. So if we are going to fault Crysis for that, then get in line and start docking points for the rest of those games too. The AI is something else people may take issue with, but please name me one game, just one game, of this caliber, of this level of technical brilliance, this OPEN-ENDED, that has AI which supercedes this. People can't, and yet they have this unrealistic expectation when it comes to Crysis. I guess that's because it's the most realistic looking game of all time, the best physics of all time, and if I may be so bold, the 5.1 surround sound also sounds very immersive as well, so perhaps the AI may be lacking in light of these other achievements, but even then, it's better than any AI to date for a game of this type/scale. A perfect 10 is hard to achieve, but relatively speaking, when compared to every other game out there, Crysis would be it. Expand

It's no where near the game that Far Cry is. The more I play it, the less I like it. The first jungle missions were great, but the Korean's telling me to "Die like a f*&king dog." got older faster than the mercs in Far Cry telling me, "You're dead, buddy!" The alien zero gravity thing seemed to be tacked on, (or wedged in). The graphics may be stellar (and I still had to knock the settings down lower than I should so I could get reasonable performance on my GTS 8800 640). Even if I could play this at max settings, I still don't get what the buzz is about. Graphics don't make the game. Graphics are jaw-dropping, gameplay is fluid and satisfying, and the game is actually engaging in the sense that you'll get into your on-screen character's skin and feel the rush of sneaking up to the enemy in complete silence, all senses wide awake. The sound is also unrivalled, with very sharp use of muffling and echo that makes it all totally immersive. I had to pause the game at one particular point : I had just fired a rocket at a distant helicopter from a ledge, jumped down and landed in a small pond. The very moment I went underwater, my teammates' chatter was muted but I could still hear the muffled gunfire and most importantly, the loud rumble of that damn helicopter blowing up. I was constantly relying on sound cues to track enemies and map my surroundings. Finally the game itself flowed gracefully from one scene to the next. It was almost Halo-like in its pace and carefully dosed excitement. I only have one point of criticism and that is the little interlude in the alien ship, floating in a disorienting anti-gravity hell overfilled with annoying jellyfish-like beasties. That part felt very stressful and out of place, but it only made the escape that much more liberating. Weapons - All the weapons look, sounded, and just performed amazingly. I would've liked a bit more variety, maybe another pistol maybe a melee knife or something else but thats for modders to do, storywise all the weapons fit in well. It seems kind of arbitrary therefore, like anything might suffice. It makes for a somewhat meaningless world where I never got the sense that I was killing REAL people for any REAL reason. Sure, this is an FPS, true, but the genre has been kind of stagnant since DOOM and Half-Life. Some attempt at innovation in game play and storytelling would have been refreshing. Perhaps some sense (illusion, even) of choice and consequence, non-linearity or ethical ambiguity would increase replayability value. Particularly considering that this game has been heralded as something quite special. However, there is little here that isn't monotonous and somewhat dull considering. For example, I found the cloaking ability to be far less rewarding than traditional sneaking. Almost a simplification of it... a shortcut, so that I needn't be too bothered. Similarly, simply running advances in AI and Physics in to game play represents more of an inclusion of feature sets the industry has come to expect more than it does design innovation. A mere addition of available, expected technologies on top of the game rather than a well-thought over design decision that actually alters the feel of the game for a specifically intended goal/reason consistent with the overall game. So, what redeeming qualities does the game have? The music is indeed nice, but nothing special or unique. The graphics... the graphics while indeed shiny, are not blinding for this reviewer: While the graphics are certainly impressive in a technical sense, artistic direction is lacking. Simultaneously, the environments tend to be unvaried and very reminiscent of Far Cry. Nevertheless some people will see the graphics as a reason to purchase and play through the, probably short, plot. It isn't enough for me and it's interesting to ponder what, if any, reason a person might have to come back and play this in 5 years time. Expand

Graphically stunning, more impressively so when taking into account the sweeping vistas beyond the detailed foreground. Compare this with COD4 where the environment is largely urban, the draw distance therefore much shorter. Unfortunately the game does not live up to its true potential on DX9, and is hampered by the recognized performance issues of Vista if running on DX10. Be wary of reviews moaning about graphics issues, render problems etc, on a properly specced, drivered machine, the game runs very clean, surprisingly so. Crysis has the fun of full control of every combat encounter, reminiscent of the potential of Deus Ex 1, well engineered, engaging fire fights (if you choose to play them as such), and finally outstanding eye candy throughout. Ok guys get this, da story was ok.. but i lost interest just before da game ended. Unfortunately Crytec/EA dont seem 2 know wat da setting 'HARD' should be like, i walked through da game in under 11hrs on 'HARD' while running on the following settings wit da next following rig: All high except shadows (low) and textures (medium) at 800/600 and no AA with a constant Ok guys get this, da story was ok.. but i lost interest just before da game ended. Now, u can call me a liar as much as u want, i couldnt care less, no loss der, da only part i had trouble at was...well cant seem 2 recall, mayby i didnt even hav a problem, wateva.. but still da game was WAY 2 short, just as i thought i was about 2 get in2 sum real shit-fights da game ended and 2 make matters worse it ended in a cliff hanger, i wanted 2 take my monitor and throw it 2 Germany i was so mad, i almost broke my $400055532535 mouse cause i was so pissed wen da credits rolled. i can believe i wasted 11hrs of my life fighting da KPA for 4hrs den da aliens for another 7. Oh and my rating was excluding da pooly (extremely poorly) executed sequences and da Z- grade voice acting (u'd tink dat dey'd be shouting "JUST DIE U SON OF A B.TCH!!!" not wispering it while pumping sum f'ed up alien wit 3 rockets a second (did i mention da messed up damage system Crysis uses). Oh and 1 tip, dont waste ur time sneaking up on da enemy every time, cause i came across sum wierd crap while approaching sum guys/teams/squads/patrols/orgies etc... Just ya, dont expect much gameplay out of dis, HL2 was way better wen it came 2 character developement. Well, i guess i'd better stop typing now, before i nail dis game so much i hav 2 lower its score again chz, n'd good luck caring bout DR Rosenburg as much as u did Alyx in HL2. Expand

The game starts out ok but the later levels are horrible. It goes from a nice wide open non linear game to complete linearity. I lost all interest after the Core level because from there on its nothing but alien crap. The end boss was extremely cheesy and seemed like it was added at the last minute just to have a boss.

It really isn't that good as everybody says... there seems to be no story at all and the graphics aren't as good as the developers wanted us to believe.

Crysis as a benchmark is impressive. However as a game it falls flat. Weapons lack any punch whatsoever and the gameplay is mostly generic and uninspired once u get past the impressive photo realistic environments.

I found the first two thirds of this game involving and satisfying, and beginning to learn how to milk the best from the weapons and nanosuit makes you feel genuinely invincible at times. I would consider myself a skilled player and am not finding delta setting too hard (having completed on Hard) so I think Crytek have gone for a good difficulty balance - there are few 'throw I found the first two thirds of this game involving and satisfying, and beginning to learn how to milk the best from the weapons and nanosuit makes you feel genuinely invincible at times. I would consider myself a skilled player and am not finding delta setting too hard (having completed on Hard) so I think Crytek have gone for a good difficulty balance - there are few 'throw eveything at you' moments in this one. I like the guns, I like the explosions and hell I even like the graphics (set on low due to my poor little CPU). Getting to take out bad guys with AA guns is pretty rock and roll too. The wide-open levels mean you can take set-pieces in manby ways, sniping enemies at distance, or stealthing in behind them and chucking a grenade into the midst. There's plenty of raw flying-lead action, though the adrenaline level will vary hugely dependent on how you choose to play the game. But then, something odd happens.. Suddenly and inexplicably in the last third of the game, the fun literally plummets away in a matter of moments.... from challenging, interactive and intellectually rewarding gameplay, you are plunged into the most deadening, challengeless drudgery imaginable. Take the 'spaceship' sequence from 'prey' and make it even longer, more boring and confusing and you are there. The scenery does change, and there are one or two more decent gun battles, but by this time the damage is done - crytek have decided that the last few parts of the game will involve playing the game from vehicles that only a robin reliant owner would find exciting, and your enemies are now drab, idiotic aliens that, in indoor environments will pretty much sit there and let you shoot them (yes even on Hard). The tactics, excellent enemy AI and mixture of stealth and frenetic blasting is finally replaced by a linear walk-and-shotgun affair with an ending that feels like a 3D representation of something I played on the Commodore 64 about 20 years ago. And I'm not talking Chuckie Egg or something good - we're talking free-with-the-computer level. Of course I had to get my moneysworth and finish the damn thing, which after a few tries and a fair bit of boredom later, was all done, the ending sequence doing little more than using a cliche to set us up for Crysis 2. The first part of the game lives up to the promises, its just a shame Crytek didnt sack whoever thought the part of the game was a good idea. Hopefully the patch will fix a dew bugs and make the graphics smoother, and there is definitely replay value in the earlier levels - but this IS NOT the world-beating mega-game that we have been marketed so carefully for the last go knows how long. Destined to be a classic, Crysis is a creative and technological marvel that eclipses every other shooter released this year. [Holiday 2007, p.60]
  2. Crysis thrives on putting the onus on you to create your own brand of action and adventure in its stunningly beautiful locations. You and the game can haphazardly create moments of such gaming brilliance that often you pretty much have to stand up and applaud. [Christmas 2007, p.44]

This is some fast, well designed gameplay with enough options to allow players to use their own style of attack with satisfying suit abilities and weapons. Crytek has upped their attention to detail in presentation and dropped the worst parts of "Far Cry’s" story.
