I have had this game for months and I haven't played it since a few days after I bought it, simply for the fact that I was extremely bored with it after an hour. This game was a bit of a let down. There are redeeming qualities in the physics and graphics sector, but the gameplay is inexcusable. Expand

One word. Aliens. Killed the game, gameplay, and storyline. AI is generally retarded, best part about the game would be the physics engine, and it gets old real fast. Most amount of fun you can have with this game is throwing barrels at a tin house to watch it fall down, because the gun fights aren't even mentionable. Just a sub-standard FPS with sci fi inputs, with a cool graphics engine.

The best game of its generation. The cryengine has proven to be a very powerful and beautiful engine. Crysis has a very interesting singleplayer campaign, the nanosuit is a very handy item to help you become a 1 man army. Crysis multiplayer is a very fun multiplayer letting you use vehicles such as tanks/hovercrafts/helicopters and APC's

Wow, it's amazing what low standards people have. I seen a retard here say this game is best FPS, even BEST PC GAME ever made. Do not let yourself fooled by the beautiful eye candy, it's just a barely average shooter with some retarded programming. The stealth missions are particularily stupid because enemy can see you and shoot you at over 9000 km and several bushes between.

Well, this game is simply astonishing. it's not perfect, and there are a LOT of issues, but the parts where the game shines REALLY outdo the parts that suck. A PC upgrade is completely worth it to play this game. PS: those who complain about bad performance, like the Anonymous guy, it's probably due to bad system optimization, so pay attention to those little details.

And damage reflection in this game is ridiculous. Don't even TRY shooting from long range unless you have a sniper rifle, note to Crytek: I don't care that I'm using a regular rifle, a dozen shots to the head will kill anyone from any distance. The suit adds a nice element of strategy to the otherwise repetitive gameplay. But the mechanic of go here, get ambushed twice on the way, break through a checkpoint, get into enemy base, get X information, destroy X gets EXTREMELY boring after about the second time through. However, in this case, I think the 7.7/10 is entirely unwarranted. Although not without flaw, Crysis is a spectacular game. The nanosuit is inovative and fun, and both the island and winter effects are done to perfection. But what is absolutely breathtaking are the graphics. The game was ahead of its time, and remains probably the most demanding and impressive GFX experience 2 years after its release. Not often that can be said of a game. Having played FarCry2 and other recent games, and liked them, I still have to say Crysis has a higher 'wow' factor. I just built a new computer (i7 + 6gb ddr3 + radeon 4890) and I am replaying the game in 1900x1080xhigh detail. It is as if I had been blind and now I can see again. I will probably finish the game once again just to see all the various levels in this resolution. The attention to detail is painstaking. There are little frogs jumping around in the marshes. Flocks of gulls can be shot at, and if you get one, the bird falls limp from the sky. Trees can be destroyed, and you can level most buildings. I didn't enjoy the alien combat but when the first 75% of the game is so damn good, I don't mind that much. I'm sure that people would be complaining that the game was the same through out if it hadn't been included. The suit is very useful and innovative. I got used to it quickly and it makes other games feel very basic in comparison. The AI is passable (ie, being able to do everything they should be able to do whilst still allowing you to run up to them, grab them by the neck and toss them otno the nearest land-mine). Awww... okay. Back to the graphics. After half Life 2 I didn't think I would be impressed by graphics again. I was wrong. It ADDS to the game. There are some areas which have real personality. I swear that I've been to that industrial ruin place (just before the alien bit starts) and the entire game really has a sense of 'place'. You never feel that you're in a level. It covers up the linearity well and brings games on to the next level. Ignore the naysayers. They're probably comparing this game to real life or something, as there is no other game to compare it to yet. (Graphics-wise. The gameplay is always a matter of personal opinion but I feel they did a very good job. I just wish enemies took fewer hits to die- I guess it's the bad side of having so many different choices and strategies to approach them.). Expand

This game is described by an only word : fantastic. It has a really good story and gameplay , with destructible sceneries and veichles, a lot of weapons and enemies. I really like the nano-suit...it has also the greatest graphic ever seen in a videogame...it's a fantastic game but the high PC requirements are, obviously, the only bad thing in this game.

Crysis: The game of two halves. I can pass on the photo-realistic graphics, gameplay is all that matters and when you spend 5 minutes sneaking into a base only to be discovered at the last second you're in deep trouble. Getting your keyboard layout comfortable is key too, as this game not only stretches the graphical limit of your computer, you'll also find that you wish your fingers were another 2 inches longer because you can't quite reach the key you need. It is an impressive game and will allow some flexibility as to how you approach each objective making replays fun. It's flaws, at times the AI (isn't it always) become predictable and the re-gens more annoying than a screaming kid. It has some major physics issues in some areas, shooting a helicopter down is fine, it burns, it falls from the sky, but will proceed to bounce about on the ground for infinitum because it can't lie flat, this results in a constant, very loud sound effect in your ear until you move far enough away. There's also the slight issue of guns getting stuck in walls, echoing the same audio problem as above. Overall, get this game, it is worth it. Expand

If you do not have at least 2 gigs of RAm this game and most new games will run like crap, no matter what the rest of your system is like. So running this game on my system with really good frame rates I must say that the graphics for this game are deffinately the best I have ever seen. The story may be linear, but the game play deffinately is not you can spend your entire life running around these levels they are fricken HUGE and you dont have to progress through the levels any one way, you can use a wide range of strategies to progerss through the story. This game is not 100% original, it has similarities with a lot of FPS games out there. The story and graphics and gameplay all come together like a halflife halo hybrid, which is totally cool, because those are the top standars for FPS right now. On high and very high, it really shines. The reason I don't give it a 10 is because the story is a little weak. It's one of those stories where you're really into it while you're playing it ... but try explaining it to a friend. This rating is based on how good a game it is compared to other games on the market. It's innovative (the nanosuit is a great addition), fun to play, and not too hard or too easy. The addition of delta mode makes it even more interesting - it's not harder, it's just a little different. I didn't rate this game based on its hype. It was a bit over-hyped. Perhaps that's where some of its high ratings came from, perhaps not. Hey, look at halo 3 - it's a decent game, but not even close to deserving a 10/10. Crysis didn't have THAT much hype, but just because it's overhyped doesn't mean it's any less of a great game, or any less satisfying to play. And I've never seen such excellent physics. Expand

Similarly, as the game progressed, I started noticing that it seemed to progressively lag, now Im talking about frames per second lag. I realized that this thing actually drains memory. Bleeds it. I tried to install the patch, but couldn't do it. It started crashing, and then it started shutting down my whole system. Then it did something I never expected. A very good game. Vehicle controls take a bit to get used to, and the higher difficulties are really hard, but it is a game that forces you to think to survive, and isn't just a straight-up run and gun game. Yes, the story is shallow, but the graphics and gameplay more than make up for that.

It's not good level design to fill up arenas with too much stuff. This game is thwarted at every turn by trying to be graphically impressive to the point where the gameplay is either ruined or forgotten. The shrubbery at the start of the island is a perfect example of this. The engine itself has an awful time dealing with this because you can't find a patch of uncovered ground that doesn't have a destructable tree, or some stupid bush. It gets old really quickly and there aren't any memorable aspects of level design that show the designers had any idea how to make the game immersive. The kicker with the abundance of items in the environment is that to keep a decent fps I need to play on all low settings, yet I have a quad processor at 3 GHz, 6 Gb of RAM and a 512 Mb video card. This game isn't a technological or graphical marvel, it's just a long series of lazy attempts at coding, and a long forgotten purpose. This just doesn't compare to what CoD4 has, or Half Life 2 - when Valve made a physics engine they incorporated it directly into the gameplay and it ran great on existing hardware or it could look great on a top of the line new rig. When the Crytek team made this they didn't factor in gameplay at all, and were so busy patting themselves on the back from overworking the hardware that they completely forgot about the experience for players. I really wanted to like this game - but it's just misdirected. It reminds me most of Quake 4 - a poor game made on a buggy engine. The reviews of this game listed above on Metacritic are very misleading. Some even give Crysis 4 out of 5 (or 80% as Metacritic shows it), yet the quotes chosen don't tally with this. The Nanosuit is just a stupid idea - self-healing, self-recharging is even worse than collecting body armor and health kits. Weapon modifications suck, no idea where do you get all the silencers and other addons since you can do it unlimited number of times. After you play it for a while, and continue to do so...for some strange reason, you start to avoid fights whenever you can. Just because it is so boring, absurd, unrealistic and schematic. As for the visual part itself - it is just one big failure. Requirements are way to high for what we get. Some elements look horrible one you start looking for weak points of the game. I highly doubt that the engine is capable of 'drawing' something else than a jungle. So it is useless as well. Great work CryTek - another stupid benchmark, not a game for sure. Expand

Utterly pointless game. Good graphics but only good with a bit of chicken. My Emperor recomends this game. My cockney weasel friend also suggests that this game is not up to today's bugweasel standards. rofling, i staggered to my desk and picked up this pos. thank you, i am so proud.

Only rating the multiplayer, I haven't played much of the single-player yet. This game has a lot of potential and there's a good base game here. This game has a lot of potential and there's a good base game here. The raw deathmatch mode (free for all) is actually one of the best FFA deathmatch experiences ever in FPS games and this was not realized in any reviews I read unfortunately. The weapons feel and work well. There are no show-stopping bugs but many slightly annoying small bugs. Unfortunately, raw DM gets tiresome for me after a while. A team DM mode and some other DM modes would be very welcome in the default game but very unfortunately were not included. The other multi-player mode, Power Struggle, is a nice attempt and works, however it feels incomplete. The biosuit I feel enhances both DM and Power Struggle. It does seem to drain quickly so that combining different suit functions doesn't work without good planning. There are no multiplayer squad functions like BF2/2142 and that is unfortunate. There are moments (like when the APC fires its missles!) when Crysis feels like a BF2 killer, but more often it feels that the Battlefield 2 series outshines Crysis where it counts in overall gameplay. The flying helicopter things look ugly and fly awkwardly but the other vehicles are nice. I like the vehicle/weapon/item purchasing system. The rain and weather effects are great. The explosions and sounds are great including the small nuke. The immersive, beautiful and reasonably large environments are welcome, unlike CoD4's tiny maps. Without a doubt, the primary focus of Crysis was the single player experience while multiplayer was not finished. They need to release a multiplayer expansion so very much because the direction they were headed is something I want - a Battlefield 2 killer. One of the important things for a online multiplayer FPS game is how it feels as it plays and Crysis feels responsive and reasonably smooth with minimal jerky movement of other players as they walk and move about the map (better in my opinion than CoD4 and TF2 but not as good as BF2 or BF2142). On a good server, your game won't play jerky or laggy. One nice touch is how if you try to rotate your tank turret it will bump into things if they block it - nice touch. I played it in DX9 mode, but not DX10 because of the high requirements (I have a nVidia 8800GTS 320MB with 3GB of RAM and both XP/Vista). While potentially the best online FPS of 2007, Crysis multiplayer is a bit of a disappointment because of bugs and its incompleteness. It made the holiday season release, but missed my favorite online FPS games list. That might change as patches and/or mods come out. Fingers crossed. I'm still hoping this game comes to fruition. This game was hyped a lot and I feel that the hype was not justified based on the overall multiplayer experience. If you like raw DM free-for-all, then Crysis delivers well. Expand

Destined to be a classic, Crysis is a creative and technological marvel that eclipses every other shooter released this year. [Holiday 2007, p.60]
  2. Crysis thrives on putting the onus on you to create your own brand of action and adventure in its stunningly beautiful locations. You and the game can haphazardly create moments of such gaming brilliance that often you pretty much have to stand up and applaud. [Christmas 2007, p.44]

This is some fast, well designed gameplay with enough options to allow players to use their own style of attack with satisfying suit abilities and weapons. Crytek has upped their attention to detail in presentation and dropped the worst parts of "Far Cry’s" story.
