This is basically a story driven corridor game. The combat is generic at best, although I like the Materia part of it, it's kind of boring button mashing affair. Nothing aside cut scenes and combat section. No exploration, no item creation. This barely qualifies has a RPG. The animations are unequal but most of them are pretty good. Good voices over. It's just dull. Expand

I had never played the PSP version of Crisis Core and as a big fan of Final Fantasy VII I was always interested to see how it tied into the main game. The combat was fun and reminded me of the Remake, characters were likeable but some cringe worthy dialogue made me roll my eyes at times.

The game looked great but levels were too short and linear which is more a PSP memory than a game

I played the original Crisis Core and I must say that this is a missed opportunity.

It's the same exact game with a few minor gameplay tweaks and new graphics, which are way better than the PSP version but below average for today's standards. The game is a grindfest, which was acceptable 20 years ago, given the limitations of the PSP, but not today. Every aspect of the game

Every aspect of the game (dialogues, graphics, gameplay and missions) feels old.

In my humble opinion, they should have released Crisis Core as a DLC for FF7 Remake (which is on another level) removing all the filler content of the original (basically 80% of the game) and developing the characters and plotline a little more.

This is nothing more than a glorified remastered.

If you have played the original, you can skip it and you won't miss a thing.
If you haven't and you are curious about Zack's story, make sure not to buy it at full price.

The structure of the game is a bit boring, and some combats are so, soooooo long... but, it tells the story of Zack. And there are a few scenes with Aerith. And Cloud is there, and even Tifa... oh, man! I've already said that the characters of Final Fantasy VII are sweeter than chocolate?

Just a remaster of the original and not a remake. So it has the exact same weakness and strengths as the original. However it uses the exact same UI and Engine as FF7 Remake, which was a big plus. Dirge of Cerberus next?

What Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion accomplishes is something few other remasters or remakes get right: it revives the original core experience – pun intended – of the original Crisis Core release and places it on modern consoles with modern upgrades. The combat system is more refined and responsive, the visual upgrades are serviceable if not as extreme as some may hope, and the storyline is virtually unchanged – for better or worse. That said, there were some areas that Square Enix could have made some adjustments and didn't, meaning we all have to sit through ghastly lines of dialogue that were awkward the first time around, let alone now. That's not enough to completely dull the effort, however, as Crisis Core is one of the best remasters available today.

If you played the original Crisis Core and are looking for an excuse to revisit the game, the remaster is definitely the ideal way to play it as everything has been updated to current generation standards. This remaster also doesn’t change much from the original story, so you don’t have to worry about the canon of the series either.

In all, Reunion is a fun way to revisit the universe of Final Fantasy VII and let players experience some of the events that would eventually lead to the main story that gamers have known and loved for over 20 years. Reunion is a fantastic remastering that lets a new generation of players witness more of the stories within Midgar and allows for even more build up throughout the series as the next release looms ever closer. For anyone even somewhat interested in this world, whether they're first time grunts entering Midgar for the first time, or SOLDIER 1st Class who have played either the original or other games in the series of FFVII, this game provides a good way to experience a world of science and magic merging, and starts a tragic tale that has lived in gamer's hearts ever since the initial release in 1997.
