Like in Dungeon Keeper, you build a dungeon for a group of dwarves without direct control over them. Like in Terraria, you dig ore in 2D and combine stuff into items. The most annoyance comes from the stupid AI. Dwarves tend to take sub-obtimal decisions on what to do next and there is no way to prioritize tasks or send a specific dwarf to a specific task. Often they just stand for 10-20 seconds doing nothing, or waste time to go from one side of the map to the other just to pick 1 dirt block while another dwarf goes from the other side of the map to do something near the place where the first dwarf was initially. Sometimes I had to wait for an hour of real time until a specific block of coal was mined - and I needed coal badly. Fighting is even more awkward: you can only mark targets, and drarves will take a long time to finally gather into a group, and then fight as a big crowd of overapping figures, with no way to see what's going on. Dwarves start running for safety too late, and unless the terrain is completely flat, will die easily due to stupidities of the pathfinding, slow climbing and jumping, falling off while climbing etc. As the dungeon grows and you need to go further deep to mine for ore, the AI's awfulness start to really anger you and the anger outweights the fun. The controls are opitmized for tablets (no push-scrolling, only left mouse button is used, no mouse-over popups etc). The graphics are also for a mobile game: too cartoonish for my liking, although I still found them okay. The crafting interface is much like in Minecraft, but worse and too tedious to use. A good thing in this game is its huge tech tree and abundance of things you can craft. This game is fun for 2 days, but gets very annoying later, and there isn't much replay value after you've seen all the things in there to build. Expand

Great game, very addictive. Encountered some minor bugs but did not greatly affect gameplay. I found that the progression can be sporatic depending on how you craft items but your experience with it will depend on your style of play. This is the type of game that I can see myself playing through a second time.

Craft the World utilized a very simple, but profound concept: keep all of the materials relevant. It's refreshing to see a game where even raw materials like dirt, sand and water have a plentiful presence in the later game segments.

That being said, Craft the World suffers from THE most crippled AI I've ever seen in a finished product. You cannot tell which Dwarf to dig, which one to chop wood, and so forth. It was commonplace for my dwarves to mine a block of dirt, only to walk away empty-handed, making a long walk back to the shelter, leaving the SINGLE PIECE OF DIRT for another Dwarf to walk out to, pick up, and walk back.
The combat is worse. Want to target a tiny tree beetle? You can kill them in 2 strikes, but that won't stop your entire base from dropping their hauling and crafting to run in and try to lend a hand.

Finally, the pathfinding is a joke. Dwarves will stand around and deliberately move into the spaces I'm trying to fill with dirt, or they will fall from the simplest of steps. My own brood have been complaining that they can't reach items that haven't existed on the map for weeks. Alternatively, you can control a single dwarf, which is often the most efficient means of mining/building, but the functionality becomes limited very quickly.

Craft the World had the potential to be something like Dwarf Fortress meets Terraria, but ended up a confusing and frustrating disagreement between the two paradigms.

at the moment not something u can play for hundreds of hours tho . u complete it 1 or 2 times and it doesn't interest u much since there is nothing new with each time u try new game only slightly different environment and map. i personally cleared it 1st time almost cleared it on small world campaign mode (10hour) 2nd time cleared fully on large map , sandbox mode(~15hour)

it is similar to games like terraria , starbound and isn't as good at most things they do however what i liked about it is that its not 1 character that u control and the whole house defense thing is more developed as u can for example make stronger blocks that monsters actually destroy harder (it was 11 at the end of game for me)

I decided to give more time to the developers to finish the game, so here I am 11 months later and this is the game:

Lots of bugs, 3 levels to play, average-small number of monsters and less-limited amount of possibilites of construction.

I paid the full price, so I demand the full game. Had to score this game a low rating due to their lack of respect. You'll receive only half of a game with lots of bugs.

Dwarves are dumb and will often kill themselves by falling in the same hole 100 times, exhaust your teleports by running from a monster or taking the stupidest route.

The variation between levels are the "annoying" factor, there's more waves of monsters and even snow falling in the middle of your path. Construction is not fun since every material is hard to obtain.

    **** game, don't buy it.

Дуже поважна гра у стилю Indi з крафтом. Діє заспокійливе у режимі time-killer. З недоліків відмічу усього 4 мапи, але виходять регулярно. Багі непомічене.

From Dekovir Entertainment, tunnels from under, Craft the World, A Steam Greenlit game. CtW is a sidescrolling survival game where you play god, and manage a bunch of Dwarves (who are apparently all white, and also male without the DLC). The idea is similar to other games that popped up in recent years like Terraria and Starbound, but this is the first where I’ve seen the player control AI instead of a singular character. CtW appears to be the dev’s only notable game on PC while the rest of their games are mobile.

There ain't no Pixels in these mines.
Craft the World runs at a solid 60 frames per second without many dips, even while zooming in and out, or having tons of dwarves fighting and mining in the background. Unlike most side scrolling resource games, the art style in CtW retains its own cute little aesthetic, instead of a pixel artstyle. Colors are bold, and details are not always extreme, keeping each design pretty basic like a cartoon. The music also pretty much matches the whole style of the game, reminding me of The Sims tracks, minus the Simlish.

Pathing Bugs are no match for endless content & Dwarven polish!
The game suffers from tons of AI pathing bugs. One issue I encountered many times involves dwarfs crossing a bridge after it has rained. Water accumulates on top of the bridge, but becomes connected to the water resource below. I’ve found countless dwarves swimming in place, stuck between the small layer of water and the bridge below. Compared to the amount of bugs to the amount of content, I’m going to have to say the game is worth the hassle. The UI is pretty well thought out, with all inventory connecting to each other in one big menu, and different tabs. In terms of design, the game feels pretty polished. There is even a Bestiary Book that was illustrated to show the different enemies throughout the game with a little bio. To get up through the Tech Tree, you must grind-build items you may or may not need to get higher in the Tech Tree. I’m 11 hours in and only half way through.

So sit down, grab a pint, and start yer minin!
Yes the pathing bugs are annoying, but there are workarounds. Since I took a hiatus from writing, the devs added in more bug fixes and a few new features like resource detection (with little icons when zoomed out), visual paths the dwarf will take, and more. I also have concerns about the female Dwarves behind a paywall, and so are additional multiplayer options, but like most of us, we don’t know what’s going on at their studio. This may have been the only reasonable way to make a profit. I will eventually review those DLC packs so keep an eye out and start minin!

I love and hate this game at the same time. First of all, when I started playing, I figuratively "screamed with joy" that I found this type of game: Craft, survival, skills + items, fantasy monsters and characters, isometrics and, most importantly, a very pleasing visual style to my eye. I know what ratings and reviews Factorio has, for example, but I myself will not play it, because the graphics are overly simplified for strategy (I love pixel art and other simple indie, so you can throw away the stone), the point is in the combination of the genre + personal taste + graphics + maybe something else. This game became "manna from heaven" for me, and I fell in love with it. Each new World was for me like a "kinder surprise" for children of the 00's :) ...but any fairy tale ends sooner or later. And it's good if the author skillfully finishes it. In the context of this game, this did not happen:
    1) AI is stupid. This is, frankly, mainstream, because from year to year, for many years, literally everyone writes about it, but this does not change the situation... perhaps some points are being corrected, and QA's are working, I understand that such things are not done at the snap of a finger (I myself am fond of QA testing, if I may say so), but this does not change the fact that SO much time has already passed, and the gnomes are STILL STUPID! ... get stuck in place, even in an empty square sometimes ... running into a crowd of monsters, and when you call them back, some idiot can get stuck again. Recently, a sore appeared that they "can't get to..." some hell knows where place. A separate cauldron in Hell for flying into the portal, where nothing already needs to be done, in the last seconds of the portal, or when I cancel it. THERE'S NOTHING TO DO THERE, IDIOT! ...well, and other minor things, like the fact that a crowd of loafers stands near the farm, and a dwarf is going to kill a chicken from hell knows how far. And some DLC add their own problems.
    2) DLC: some are good, some are average (but not expensive), but I, physically, mentally and spiritually, cannot force myself to fully appreciate these add-ons, because all these bugs infuriate me. I can't help but think of it all this way: before you make a bunch of add-ons, one by one, finish already, damn, these bugs and the intelligence of the dwarves.
    3) Heroes: the idea is great, but I think two things are stupid, and this is the impossibility of dressing them, and the fact that they ignore the warning sign.
    4) I’ll add a couple more things in detail: I don’t like that you can’t disassemble any things (well, except for the second tab with ingots, but ... I can disassemble one column into a stone, but not the next one? wtf?). I don’t like that you can’t do anything with extra skill books, such as selling or disassembling on paper, for example. I was extremely infuriated by the huge number of werewolves in the snow World (they are interesting in themselves, but the infection and their constant respawn and raids at my place!). I don’t like that they still haven’t made it so that the crafting branch for each World has its own unique items. Yes, I wrote it this way, because what is there is minuscule. The inability to move / delete the statues of heroes ... what the hell is this? Seriously?! ...and when attacking the pyramids, it was not possible to make a retreat, or a "general gathering", since it is considered as a magic, which is prohibited in the pyramid.
...So it turns out that I love this game ... but what a relief I feel, finishing and deleting it for f*ck. 80% due to the fact that the cup of my patience and love was filled with stupid and buggy gnomes. 8 out of 10.

Лучше сразу начинать на песочнице на самой большой карте, ибо все удовольствие от игры можно получить только один раз пройти путь исследований. Далее повторять тоже самое, при других условиях желание нет.

You don’t have to invent anything new to achieve success — just take the best ideas from your competitors and wrap them in a slick package. Dekovir Entertainment did that in Craft the World, and I don’t want to criticize them for this approach, as the end result is a nice game.

Craft the World has a lot of personality, but like the layers of earth it gives you to explore, it’s surprisingly shallow.
