Summary: If you've ever played the original boardgame called Settlers of Catan, you'll know why we simply had to make a computer version. It's complex, but straightforward. It's competitive, but non-combative. It's a family boardgame for families who like to think. Catan is practically the antithesis of the standard, brain-dead "roll the dice, move your piece, draw a card, do what it says" sort of boardgame. In short, it's exactly the right kind of fun, and we were itching to build a digital doppelganger. If you're new to Klaus Teuber's addictive realm of exploration and colonization, it goes something like this: each player stakes out a bit of territory on a hex-based continent. Each hex produces one type of resource, and if you control or trade for those resources, you can expand and improve your civilization. Catan is currently available on MSN Games as a subscription-based multiplayer game, and also as a downloadable single-player version.
