Call of the Sea is a really nice relaxing puzzle game with a really decent story. The puzzle solving is fun if you like those type of games you will love this game. The art style art direction is really interesting and I like it is something fresh new. I think the game deserved a decent 8/10 great game if you like this type of games you will like this game aswell.

Nice story, more of a walking simulator. Great music, voice acting and graphics/art style. Some puzzles are too easy, while others are fairly tough. They did break the pace for me.

I eventually got chapter 2 to work, but I only got to see the beginning moments of chapter 6.. call of the sea just refuses to load leading me to have to watch the remaining 40 minutes on youtube to get this games ending… and the issue isn’t expclusive to what is admittedly a beta system in xbox game pass for pc, after looking into it, there are reports on all of the sea causing console crashes as well, there was also a bug where I would be shown a giant white blob where cinnmematics were supposed to b shown throughout the entire game!
If you can get through Call of the Sea, this is a really interesting and pretty straightforward puzzle game.. but if you do decide to give this one a go, don’t do it through xbox game pass for pc
    it probably wont work
I giv Call of the Sea

It will not fit everyone’s taste. But I’m into atmospheric games with great artstyles and well written and authentic speakers.
I had zero crashes, and only tiny graphic glitches.
Most of the time it had a smooth FPS. One or to areas of the game had a drop of the framerate to aroundish 30 FPS (measured by gut feeling, you notice it’s not smooth anymore, but definitely not chunky) on Xbox One X on a 4K TV.
It would have been nice if they’ve varied the dialog, when interacting with the same object again.
All in all, Kudos to the developer „out of the blue“ for this debut.

Don’t listen to the haters here (which expect a fast paced FPS, RPG, RTS), look at the overwhelming positive steam reviews.

So, it is a pretty game (although the visual side of it is not mind-blowing). It is a simple and small game...so, whatever. However, the actual puzzles are rather random and weird. It really made me mad that running is like "walking" in a properly tweaked game. I was like "please, I dont want to walk back again". The story is "meh". I really dont recommend this game.

Of course games media has been loving this game. You can hardly even call it a video game there's no challenge no interaction just of woke shallow storyline everything a games journalist loves. Seriously all you do is walk around listening to the story Untold. Actually you don't walk you crawl the movement speed is that slow you could write a novel and eat your breakfast while playing this game.

There are many different locations that you explore, and there are a good variety of pattern-based puzzles. The movement was a little slow for my taste, but it was not detestable. Overall, the game was rather short (only a bit over four hours for me), even though it felt like it took twice as long to complete. But it was an enjoyable journey, nonetheless.

The storytelling could have been a bit less cryptic, especially during the latter half of the game where it was crucial to understand the overarching plot and the character's role in the entire adventure in order to sympathize with her. But you're only left with a vague understanding of what is happening.

As with all puzzle games, spoiling yourself would ruin the fun, so make sure to interact with everything, however minor it may be. This game is not too difficult and can be completed without much assistance as long as you explore everywhere.

I was expecting a leisurely and fun experience akin to exploring Disney World's various theme parks. However, this game is nothing like that. Though the landscapes in the game are often breath-taking, I was amazed at how technically complex the game is. The early puzzles are related to the natives and weren't too bad to solve, but then Norah encounters numerous machinery of varying types all of which are out of commission that she must restore. Harry's goal was to find a cure for Norah's strange sickness, but it's hard to see a connection between that goal and all the gizmos the expedition was using. Unfortunately, after awhile you really don't care about Harry and all the gushing he does about Norah. The puzzles get harder and harder and the game is completely fantasy driven with no basis in reality. You really have to love complex puzzle solving to complete this game and apparently, based on reviews, some players are fine with that challenge. Ultimately, I couldn't finish it despite having the aid of a walkthrough. Got close, but bungled the last bit to open the final wall that would have led to the conclusion. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Puzzles are nice but sometimes too easy, and hints are a bit too obvious. The story is good, not great, like why is she a fish or something, that makes no sense.

The game is filled with moments when you realize that the developers were a bit lazy or didn’t know how to program it so they went the easy way. Like the fact that you never see a character other than in a picture is super weird. She reunite with Harry (if you choose this option at the end) and they sing together but you never see them. This tells me that they aren’t capable of modelling characters. The worst part of the game is the pace, it’s extremely slow and why the hell is she running that slow ?!? I don’t understand how this couldn’t come up when they tested their game. I believe this is one of the most frustrating pace in a game I’ve ever seen. You constantly want her to run faster but her speed is locked at 0,1 MPH. Even when she’s in the water, with her amphibian hands, isn’t she supposed to know how to swim? Controls got me feeling like I was playing an anchor.

Finally, music is alright and the graphic design of the island is stunning. There’s just too many cons for it to be enjoyable. But I can understand if some people loved it and it’s on the Xbox gamepass so I won’t complain any more.

Call of the Sea can be described as: a forgettable adventure, sprinkled with fun, but easy puzzles. The exposition-heavy "narration" of the main heroine ruins the atmosphere of this journey, which isn't that strong to begin with, especially for a story dealing with eldritch terrors from beyond. The only reason to play this are the puzzles, although they too fail to keep you invested, as you won't really care about reaching the end, especially if a fan of Lovecraft, which will instantly turn the plot into an extremely predictable one. It has its moments, sure, and the visuals are beautiful, but this is generally a mediocre experience.

Colorful, pretty scenery, decent voice acting, lots of interactive objects, and a couple of interesting puzzles give the impression that the game has more to offer than it actually does. The atmospheric first half is good, but the repetitive second part disappoints. The plot makes no sense and the direction it takes is predictable to anyone acquainted with Lovecraft’s work. The further you go, the narrower the path is and you bump into invisible walls all the time. It’s a shame the game’s considerable potential was squandered. [02/2021, p.60]
