Call of the Elder Gods is a beautiful, haunting and sometimes funny first-person puzzle game. It has a strong focus on its world and characters, with fabulous writing and lovely voice acting. The puzzles are clever, offering a mix of subtle and more grandiose brain scramblers. If you're a fan of cosmic horror or the Lovecraft mythos, Call of the Elder Gods is going to be a game you'll want to dive into immediately. This is one of the most outstanding games of the year so far, and it's not one you're going to want to miss.

Call of the Elder Gods is an arguably even better follow-up to Call of the Sea, continuing the saga with plenty more puzzles and a tighter story that fleshes out its Lovecraftian tale of eldritch horror and destiny.

A solid and satisfying puzzler wrapped around an H.P. Lovecraft story that hasn’t been told to death. It leaves you wanting more, with a shorter runtime, but thankfully a price to match. Another hit from developer Out of the Blue Games, and one I hope they continue into a third installment.

Call of the Elder Gods wonderfully captures an otherworldly tone and the sense of mystery of its predecessor, which remains a hidden gem of this decade. While its ambitions chip away at feeling as captivating, it's an especially touching sequel to further explore the events of Call of the Sea while still having some rewarding Myst-style puzzle solving to complement a new story that's about finding a sense of closure. Developer Out of the Blue Games' follow-up nails the emotional core of its first-person adventure effort, all while giving its characters and puzzle design time to shine.

Call of the Elder Gods is a fantastic Lovecraftian adventure with a unique setting, compelling story and mostly intuitive puzzles, except for one that feels like it makes no sense. Thanks to the Request Hint menu, even players who aren’t very familiar or have a hard time with the genre will be able to advance through the game, but finding solutions by yourself is a fascinating experience. While anyone may enjoy the game, it’s especially recommended for those who have already played Call of the Sea for a further dive into the universe’s lore.

Call of the Elder Gods is another hit for Out of the Blue Games, and I can't wait to see what they do next. It seems like they've found a winning formula; building on their prior works but also keeping them utterly distinct.

A seriously smart puzzle game that rightly foregrounds its elaborate brainteasers, but does so at the cost of coherence in what is a notably more ambitious sequel.
