Expand

A landmark title for the defunct developer Cavia. It's weirdly ambitious and technically impressive by 2006 standards, and also hilariously jank. It's one of those "so bad it's good" games, but in all the right areas and even today has some uniqueness to it thanks to it's post-apocaliptic demonic invasion setting and gimmicky magic powers which brings a lot of charm to it.

If you're the kind of person that wants a professionally quality game with Triple A standards or something close, don't bother with this one, but if you're into PS2-360 quality jank, this is a great option to play. I've already played it multiple times, and the PC port is definitely the best version thanks to improved framerate, stability, less spongy enemies, some gameplay touch-ups (the shotgun now is a usefull and satisfying weapon!), the DLC... and an incredible dash ability that greatly enhances game pacing making travelling long levels much faster.

Hopefully someone somewhere makes a modern port of other non-Drakengard Cavia titles like Beatdown: FIsts of Vengeance, WinBack 2: Project Poseidon...

The unpolished gameplay and bare-bones presentation do the game no favors in this day and age, and the general failure to launch issues cast Bullet Witch in a more negative light. Unless you have a strong sense of nostalgia, there's not much of a reason to pick up Bullet Witch.

Despite a few neat gameplay touches Bullet Witch ultimately fails to impress and this remaster only goes to show that this game should have stayed in the past. What could have been an interesting third-person shooter is let down at almost every point by frustrating game design and bland level design.

Bullet Witch hasn’t aged particularly well in an era of excellent, smooth, quick third person shooters and brawlers, but I still found myself having fun buying all-in with the simple pleasures that the game does succeed with. Don’t buy this game if you’re looking for a tight, polished, nuanced experience, but consider giving it some of your time for a nostalgic trip through some light-hearted fun.
