So, The Pre-Sequel is in my opinion the best game is the series for a number of reasons but I'll stick to the main points.

So, The Pre-Sequel is in my opinion the best game is the series for a number of reasons but I'll stick to the main points.

    1) The 2 new Weapon Variables. Cryo Element and Lasers are an absolute blast to use. Unlike Borderlands 2 in which Slag felt like a complete crutch item especially for playthrough 2. The Cryo Element is not only fun and powerful to use standalone but it's also brilliant for stuff like explosive and melee based builds.

    2) The Character Interactions feel significantly more genuine than they did in previous games. The Original Borderlands felt like you were played a faceless character and Borderlands 2 was better at fleshing out the Original Vault Hunters but the newest group still felt lacking in anything special. Except for Kreig and Gaige.

    3) I felt that they managed to begin creating much better narrative elements in future games due to how they treat the story in this one.

    4) The ClapTastic Voyage DLC was brillant (possibly better than the Tiny Tina Dragonkeep DLC) and the two DLC Characters (Jack's Doppelganger and Aureila) have great play styles and are very fun to slaughter things with.

There are some downsides to the game.
    1) The Holdome DLC is really bad. It lacks any of the character from the Moxxi Underdome DLC and the only worthwhile things about it is the level cap and Axton/Gaige Interactions.

    2) Whilst I liked the whole Moon concept the environment felt quite bland and there was a lot of environment to go through, things felt very limited in colour palette until the Claptastic Voyage Showed up.

Overall I think this game is very much worth your time. If you liked BL 1 and was Meh about BL 2. This might be the game for you.

Same old loot drops and very early on I gave up checking crates because they only contain ammo and no other interesting items. Reskinned characters with no armour or anything interesting to do with them. This game is a run and fetch game with boss shootings and not much else. The oxygen thing is novel, but to make the whole game having to use it sucks. Characters in the game should be shootable because you'll want to with all the dumb cheap missions on offer. It's not a bad game, I'm going to play it through but I expected a lot more. This formula needs to move forward, just more things to do and more grounding in reality and less pinball machine Mario platforming crap.

I do like the reeled in damage stats and game economy balancing. Challenge has been lifted too. But the level design is atrocious and the missions suck and the enemies come at you from nowhere and there's something wrong with the respawn rate and amount. Hate most of the creatures and enemies encountered so far. Just stupid. Lot of bad in this game offset by things you'll like from the first. Gravity sucks too. Because I like shooting things with weird weapons it's still ok. I got it for ten bucks so, bargain really.

Mixed feelings. I've picked it up again after having played the really good Telltale Games "Tales of the Borderlands" (highly recommended) to fill in the blanks. While it's cool to learn how Handsome Jack became the villain, and the jokes / puns being still on par with BL2, the game itself is far too short and has very little engaging story compared to the big brother. One could say it's an extended DLC. Endgame is level 27/28 btw, after that you're done.
I'd say if it's on sale (again) and you're a fan, pick it up. As long as you do not get annoyed by the many running arounds and the (sometimes cool, often obnoxious) moon jumpings it's fine.

That being said, the main heroes / hunters are "meh" to say the least. I'd recommend "the Dutchess" (Lady Hammlock), was a blast to play as her. DLC though.

All in all 7 of 10 compared to my 10/10 BL2.

So there are good parts about this game first off:
-New Characters (kind of reskins but they're cool)
    -New gun types
-New ways of killing enemies (SLAMS ARE AWESOME)

Now that I've listed what I like, I'll tell you what makes me not recommend this game. First off, Look at these graphics. They are the same as BL2. The engine is exactly the same, thus, all the graphics will be the same. The GUI is LITERALLY the same as BL2, the map types have nothing new to them, gun system is the same, enemies are COMPLETELY reskined (like the Rythads, and Shugguraths). Now all this would be fine if the game wasn't SIXTY DOLLARS, Are you serious 2k???? $60 for this? No way. I got it on sale for $30 and I STILL felt cheated out of my money. Other things such as THE BACKTRACKING, oh god! In BL2 it was not bad at all, and it was fun, but now, in BLTPS, whenever I have a mission I just say "ugh there? not again!" I find myself walking for so much of the game and killing 30 enemies that aren't even RELATED to the quest at hand. In Triton Flats, Shugguraths pop out EVERY 2 SECONDS, and you can't run away because their lighting bolts NEVER miss so you're stuck fighting them! And let's not even being to talk about the Stingray. What a **** vehicle. It's AI feels like it was programmed by a baby, the controls are terrible, and the jump boost is useless. Oh elemental damage you say? Well considering that fire damage doesn't even work unless you are in an atmosphere and everything is immune to some type of elemental damage, it's totalyl useless. Oh and let's look at something so simple: gun brands. In BL2, there was the BANDIT brand which had huge magazines but low damage, fire rate, accuracy, etc. and it was named after the common bandit in the game. Now in BLTPS, we have SCAV which has the SAME stats and is named after the common Scav. How original! And still no quick method of fast travel. Please! Add it in! Whenever you go somewhere to compelte a mission, all the enemies you previously killed ALL respawned, so you either leg it and skip all the loot, or fight them ALLLLL over again.

For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT, I repeat, DOOO NOOOTTT buy this full price. It is basically a reskin of BL2 on the moon. Wait for a sale, or just don't buy it at all and get Borderlands 2. If you already have BL2 and you are not a fanboy/fangirl, just wait for BL3 in the hopes that it will bring INNOVATION and ORIGINALITY. Not this heckeneyed **** that BLTPS brings. And I was REALLY hoping for a good game. I was! Nonetheless, I will finish it just because I love the BL franchise.

Overall a good game but quite far from being amazing. Its fun and I'm glad I bought it but it's short and too easy. I would recommend Borderlands 2 over this game.

It cant help but be compared to its predecessor, Borderlands 2, which it does not stand up against. One of the new features is a jump boost and with that comes a 'slam' ability. This can be an important part of your playing

It cant help but be compared to its predecessor, Borderlands 2, which it does not stand up against. One of the new features is a jump boost and with that comes a 'slam' ability. This can be an important part of your playing so there are ways to make it more powerful such as spending skill points. Another new edition are laser weapons which has three sub-types. They are a welcomed addition.

Although the 'slam; feature is fun to use, it doesn't require much skill and that is representative of the entire game as it is more about having fun than grinding or playing skilfully. The heads of enemies are usually bigger than average because they are wearing oxygen masks, so scoring critical hits are pretty easy. Some of the characters unique abilities really dulled down the skill level which is the opposite of what I wanted (one ability locks onto a target and all you have to do is pull the trigger). Having said that, it is a very enjoyable game with a good amount of re-playability and playing online adds to the enjoyment.

There is humour in the game that works well and draws you into the world and its characters but I would have liked to have more of it.

The weapons have a nice verity which keeps the game interesting and killing the same boss' repeatedly to get the 'Legendary' item you want keeps you playing for longer.

A good game in its own right.
About the same level of enjoyment as BL2.
Very different character to the original. 2K Australia definitely left their mark :-) To all the whining babies. You knew this would be just like 2 but with some slight tweeks. Of COURSE it's a full game, if you completed it in a few hours maybe you played 2 so much it's too easy for you. Wait for Borderlands

The new visuals look great but the game, map, weapons and dialogue are exactly the same as the first Borderlands. The story is once again not intended for solo play, as per the loot also, and the gap in difficulty between normal AI and boss fights is ridiculous- the same replay until you run out of money rule still applies.
This game is a good DLC at best, but a copy & paste game

Open world first person shooter with cool art style, a million guns and tons to shoot: Typical borderlands. Not as good as the first two games, however it does add a cool low gravity mechanic and has the best ending boss of the franchise.

For 1, I like that the game takes place in space rather than Pandora. It has this 80s vibe to it and it just works. We get to have new elemental weapons and get to boost up when we jump. You go on a mission and there is a early boss fight which is over your level. Even the side-quest doesn't help that much leveling you up. When I get a good-looking gun from a tough fight, it's on a low level which means it's pretty useless. It's not just the guns too, the items you counted are going to be low level and it's hard to find good items for your level. In Borderlands 2, to me, it takes 10 or 15 minutes to kill a boss but in this game it takes longer than cause you don't have powerful weapons. I understand boss fight can be long or short in video games but in this game it make you lose interest in the boss fight and takes up your ammo and you lose a lot of money while playing this. The stuff you won't to buy, you won't have enough money for it cause you die a lot in this game cause it's that hard. But to me, the only thing I like about this game is exploring, just like every other video games. I want to do more than just exploring but that's the only thing I'll get for this game. I'll recommend anyone to play this but it's barely playable. Expand

Pretty much everything is worse compared to Borderlands 2, it's still an ok game but it lacks a lot. Also it just comes across as amateur, the voice acting is poor most of the time. Compared to Borderlands 1 and 2 at least, haven't played 3 yet, TPS has arguably the best story of the series and I would say a much better balance with it's endgame weapons and the classes. However, the endgame and post game support was faaaaaaaaaaaar worse than the first couple games in the main series. When you beat the game and the claptrap dlc, that's basically it. A few bosses to farm, side quests, but that's about it. While they did fix the spawns of some bosses so you could farm them again, there is still a large amount of enemies that you can't kill again after the first time around. This really brings down the post game grind. UVHM has a much better balance compared to BL2 and a lack of OP levels was a god send, but with the lack of general content, this barely does anything for the overall experience. I think the classes in the game are honestly some of the most fun to use in the series with great skill trees, but there are a few instances of an overuse of CO-OP oriented trees which are more or less useless outside of playing with friends. On Elpis, a lot of the areas feel very samey unfortunately. Enemy types are not as interesting as Borderlands 2. The weapons in the game also leave a lot to be desired at times. The edition of laser weapons is fun, but the overall reuse of designs and weapons from Borderlands 2 makes it feel far too samey. Zero gravity and jump packs are fun, but especially around the end of the game you'll be hard pressed to find areas that actually utilize them as much as you'd think. The O2 mechanic is lack luster and gives no sense of urgency which can be viewed how you want it, good or bad. Overall, TPS is a fun game to play and I'd say a great experience the the first time around, but you may have a lack of interest coming back for more after that. Get it on sale and play for the story and gameplay while that can last you.

There isn’t a AAA game out there that doesn’t exist to make money, but Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel stumps for dollars in a brazenly insipid way. It’s a paint-by-numbers effort, almost from top to bottom.

2K delivered exactly what it promised: a derivative game which nevertheless deserves to be completed in single-player for the story. And then maybe one more play through with a friend or two, just to shoot stuff and kid around, before setting Pre-Sequel aside until DLCs come. Just as it always is with Borderlands. [Dec 2014, p.64]
