Graphically its a step up. It is definitely a lot brighter and varied than the Pandora we first knew. To be honest I preferred my old, dusty, wild-west meets mad-max Pandora, but hey that's not for everyone I guess and 'more variety' was needed.
Gameplay wise, it's taken a step back. I know it was developed with the co-op mode being the main focus, but you sometimes get the feeling that certain areas in single player are completely unbalanced, needing the whole team to be there to tackle it without 50 respawns and running out of ammo constantly. Some boss battles were ridiculously hard, where others were 'blink and you'll miss it'.
I didn't have any problems with the interface and to be honest, I'm not entirely sure why so many do.
They also tried to add extra longevity sans DLC with the huge number of challenges. Kinda works, although some of them particularly the Vault Symbols hunts are incredibly frustrating.
On the whole, I did really enjoy the game and still play it. I give it an 8, as even though it isn't as good as the first game, I still think it's more enjoyable than the current 'Call of Honor: Black Ops Battlefield' games.

Theres lots of fun to be had in Borderlands 2 while i mainly played through it in single player and really enjoyed it i had an even better time playing it in co-op with friends. What does take away from the experience for me is that the NPCs in the game while funny and unique dont actually move around nor do they join you on missions, theres also very few of them which is a shame. I also disliked that at times the game felt more than a little grindy which took away from an otherwise great experience.

Just getting into the Borderlands genre I have to say it can be a VERY fun game. But it is good to play this game in chunks. After four hours the game can get really boring. Also having soooooo much to do it's easy to get side track. I also wish the level up system was faster. But all in all I say it's a 7.5.

What made BL1 great is present in this game, but its largely much of the same as it was before, except it took more time for this game to build steam. The game felt very meh up until somewhere past half way through. Past that point, the game got REALLY good, and I couldn't put it down until the ending. Oh my... what a nice rpg! I've played BL1 and I found it so cool. BL2 tho... The classes are all useful, graphics are beautiful, no less and the storyline exceptional. You should however play this game with at least one friend and have a pretty good computer to have the best graphics possible.

The replay factor is crazy: I"ve got characters of all classes and still haven't got tired of the game even playing single player most of the time. The variety of missions and DLC makes the game live much longer. Story is cool, great voice acting, beautiful graphics, precise controls and and a serious pack of fun.

Yes, there are more guns and even more crazy guns, but especially at later second or third playthroughs ("Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode") the game forces "slag" down your throat and the guns that you are basically forced to use are behaving like boring Nerf-pellets.

The way weapons are constructed makes looking for hidden chests basically useless, since the chances of getting good loot from them could be in the negative digits.

Oh and remember the Pearlescent Weapons from BL1 ? Yeah.... now you can only obtain them in the UVHM and they aren't as good anymore and require you to use special shields or mods to be at least a littlebit powerful.

    Protip:
Ignore the **** UVHM and just play the game with its good DLC's together with friends!

    Oops
    Force of habit
Speaking of forceful habits, and even more forceful segues; Borderlands 2 forces you into many an unwanted habit. But I'm getting a head of myself. The bust arrives next week. I'm also getting ahead of myself. The ever popular sequel to the much beloved RPG/FPS mix was quite the success, critically and commercially. One only had to spend a minute in a schoolyard in the mid 2010s to know more about this game than Subway's Jared knew about children's anatomy. Speaking of which, if you still find yourself hanging around schoolyards please notify the FBI, those once voluminous Borderlands 2 conversations have since ended.
Ignoring that, being regaled with tales of handsome Jacks, teenage spank-bank heartthrob Liliths, and guns that explode when you reload them made it seem easy to qualify what made this game so pervasive in our impressionable, plastic minds.
    lol they were wrong.
The game does have improvements over its predecessor. But improvements are not necessarily fixes. And for everything this game adds, another quality still cries out in the night for more development...
like one of Subway Jared's chil-
    -you get the joke.
Two primary qualities give this game a flair the previous entry did not hold. First is the increase in uniqueness and variability in weapons. While BL1 had that quality in its randomised weaponry, the new traits added in this game really do give it new life, at least for a while.
I'm gonna say this again and again, but this game is too long and this effects many of its systems' value and vice versa. The fun weapon traits are gimmicky and that sense of novelty does not last the entire story. And while these weapons do play an integral role in this franchise's gameplay and image, and require development like this, little else was developed to support it.
Before that though, the other improvement was in narrative. The first game had a story probably written by the janitorial staff. Of course, spending your days cleaning up sh*t sort of leaves you on a one-track mind creatively...
But this game does structure and character well. This story actually utilises escalating tension, wins and losses, and a sense that the villain, the most handsome of Jacks, is actually a person and somewhat of a threat. Having the player win every encounter against a dumb, 2-dimensional enemy does snuggle the player in an embracing power fantasy which works for most games. But it damages a story not to have the villain create a turning point, and increasing pressure for the player. So congrats Borderlands 2. You achieved basic structure. Come back to me when you realise character arcs are also a thing.
There's also comedy. It's highly subjective of course. I didn't think the game was unfunny, and even breathed air out my nose a couple of times. But I wouldn't personally say it was witty. Then again, if you're reading this then anything's an upgrade.
Also there's that whole tutorial area before you reach Sanctuary, the main quest hub, that's just kinda there. For reasons. The game is too long and that intro definitely could have been cut and worked into the next chapter.
I've said the game's too long and now I should explain, because I've offended a grotesquely giant, gangly group of gorging gamers who are probably trying to dox me as you read this.
The game is too long because the mechanics and mission variety don't carry it. A lot of tedious grinding compared to the last game, a lot of repeated enemies, and a lot of boss fights with terrible, cheap mechanics mean the pacing of this game is a chore. And not like a take out the trash chore, like a farm kid "chore" that actually takes the whole day.
The underdeveloped eshay-brain gameplay doesn't help that feeling either. It's gotta be said that the RPG and FPS mechanics don't actually mix that well, and they definitely don't support each other. Why accuracy stat, why?
Why are you no better, and maybe worse than borderland numero 1? The base stat for early levels is much lower, and weapon stats don't randomise equally meaning they are good at 1 thing, and 1 thing only. Which is 2 more things than me, but whatever. By the end you either have guns that actually do a little bit of damage to the enemies, or you have guns that actually hit the enemies. Seriously, it's like holding a gun to your head, pulling the trigger and having someone in Madagascar drop dead. And that's when you're not being shot through walls.
So the FPS gameplay encourages skill, and the RPG cancels it out. Yikes.
Borderlands 2 is still a good time with friends, but there are still some things that need to be explained to it when it's older.

The game boast a lot of guns and an memorable villain, both of which are true. On PC there are several bugs: invisible walls, disappearing bullets, vending machine glitches, enemy's freeze up, enemies shot at nothing, enemies fly off the map.

The initial play-through (normal) is relatively balanced but challenging. There are a good deal of missions and a lot of location. After completing the game you unlock true-vault hunter mode (play+) which isn't about enemies using tactics requiring strategy, but a race between you and them to become ridiculously overpowered. They move faster than you can turn, leap 2 stories, run backwards at full speed without hitting anything. The health bar is the same for every enemy, but not all level 50s are made the same. One has to grind through basic enemies that have 10x your health, so you'll need to unload mass amounts of bullets even into low level enemies. Loot drops greatly impact how you spec your character as well as how you play. While I don't mind some amount of farming, you have to farm a lot which involves having to reload from your saves over and over for hours to unlock one item then move onto the other (that's if the item is farmable or you've farmed enough to be able to farm a better item). Spending 20 hours to find one gun and hope it's the right level and variation isn't a lot of fun. There isn't any change of pace. Aside from killing enemies, there almost nothing to do (challenges would be the exception but most of those involve killing enemies).

The dialogue is good though the overall story isn't that impressive. The skill trees have several options, but each character only has 1 special skill and all of the options are passive. Characters can have different clothes or heads but that's it for customization; mostly color swaps.

If you are into looting guns and firing guns until your fingers go numb, this game is for you. If replaying the same scenarios over and over isn't your thing, then I would avoid this game.

This is a guideline for how to properly review games. Many reviewers like to get a “feel” for a game, and arbitrarily give a game a score that they believe it deserves. This results in wildly different scores between different reviewers, and vastly different scores between similar games. This guideline addresses these problems and scores games fairly and consistently. This guideline also gives scores that are usually similar to the metacritic score.

The review score is based out of 10 points. There are no “half” or 0.5 increments. It is impossible to have a score above 10 or below 0. The review score will change as the game gets new dlc, drops in price, or if more secrets are found through the game increasing its appeal.

The scoring is split into 6 sections. The first five sections can add a possible 2 points to the final score. The first 5 sections are Single Player/Multi Player, Gameplay, Visuals/Story, Accessibility/Longevity, and Pricing.

Notice that 3 of these sections have two parts. These particular sections will be scored based on the stronger part of the game of the two. For example, if a game has a lousy single player campaign, but an excellent multiplayer component, that section will be based solely on the multiplayer as if the single player did not exist. This allows games to be based on their own merits, as many unnecessary features are shoehorned into video games by publishers to reach a “feature quota”. Games that excel in both areas of a section don’t receive should be noted in the written review, but cannot increase the score past 2 in that section. However, it can be taken into account in the final section

The final section can add 1, add 0, or subtract 1 to the final score. This final section is the “wildcard” section. This section is for how the reviewer “feels” about the game, but limits this only to this section, rather than the entire 10 point review. This section can include any positive or negative point that was not covered in the previous 5 sections.

You do experience the occasional bug, but it is nothing immersion-breaking, or worrying. however, the UI is functional at best and was clearly designed with a console in mind, so it is sometimes a bit awkward to switch or compare weapons.

On to the few negatives this game has, one of which is not the game's fault. The jump-in co-op is a fantastic feature of this game, but I highly recommend only doing this with friends, as random matchmaking tends to put you with someone who is not necessarily inclined to share loot with you. While money and ammo is shared throughout your group, those really great guns that you can find only belong to the person that picks them up, so this can be a problem, albeit not the game's fault. Another bad thing about this game is only based from what I have heard. I have many friends who have played both the original Borderlands and it's sequel, and every single one has suggested that it is effectively the same game, with better variety of guns, better graphics, and more improved features. However, I can't comment on this, as I have never played the original myself.

I haven't even finished the game's story yet, and I'm already doing a review for it. Normally, I like to finish a game's story before I review it, but just this once,I decided not to because I felt like I had played enough of the game to review it. So, is this game a unique enough experience without a story, or does a game really need a story to be amazing? Let's find out. The gameplay of this game is utterly unique. It is a first-person shooter with RPG elements from the Diablo series. I was not a huge fan of Diablo (there, I said it, come at me Blizzard fanboys) when I played it, so I was not so sure what to expect when I decided to try this game. After trying it, I can safely say that my concerns were put to rest. I had a much more fun experience with this game then Diablo II ever gave me. It does have many elements of Diablo. There is tons of loot to pick up, multiple characters to play as, each with a different play-style, and your character can level up and unlock new abilities. However, this game has many more elements of a first-person shooter that make it a much more unique experience. Let me just start by saying unlike Diablo, you don't have to click everything on screen just to make your character do things. This was one of my biggest problems with Diablo. Because you could not use the mouse and keyboard, you had to click everywhere just to do things, which just made the game more confusing, and way too fast. However, Borderlands 2 plays just like your average first-person shooter. It's not overhead view like Diablo. I'm happy Gearbox Software went with this direction, because it gave me a more familiar gameplay mechanic than just clicking. This game is definitely more of a shooter than any other RPG I've played, as shown in the game's fast, furious, and fun combat. There are also several quests for you to do throughout the game, which is why I haven't completed the story yet. These quests are all very fun and unique. They all have you accomplishing objectives for certain characters. I think that my only problem with the gameplay would be that when you die, you just respawn at a checkpoint. While this is okay, one thing that annoys me is that any enemy you hit before you die will regenerate all of his health when you get back to the room you were killed. While this can be annoying, it is not annoying enough to make you stop playing the game. Overall, this game's gameplay is insanely fun, and anyone who plays this game will most likely have a fun time with it. As for the graphics, they are every bit as unique as the gameplay. The graphics of this game are cell-shaded, sort of like a comic book. The game looks far more unique than any other game I have played. However, the question is, do these graphics work? The answer is yes. This game has many cartoony elements in it, such as the humorous writing throughout the game's story and missions, and these graphics fit in with it perfectly. My only problem with these graphics is that there is a lot of texture pop-in. While this is not a huge issue, almost every other developer who has used the Unreal Engine has either found a way to get rid of this pop-in, or made it not get in the way. It gets in the way here, which can be annoying, but still doesn't distract from the whole experience. Overall, this game has great graphics regardless. As for the story, while I haven't played through the whole game yet, I can tell you what I have played. The story is that you are a Vault-Hunter, and you must stop a man named Handsome Jack from destroying the world of Pandora. Problem Number 1 is that they picked the most cliched story in the book, I know, but even so, they still manage to make it unique here. They made it unique through the aforementioned humorous writing in the game's story. This game has a really good sense of humor, and the writers like to show it anywhere they can. Expect lots of good jokes throughout this game. It also has a lot of memorable characters. Overall, this game's story is really cliched, but still great. Overall, this is a game that must be played. It successfully combines the first-person shooter and RPG genres. I can safely say that I like this game one heck of a lot more than the Diablo franchise (once again, come at me Blizzard fanboys). I recommend this game to anyone who loves a good shooter or RPG, or even a good video game in general.

When BL1 was released I was very excited, finally a game that mashed together MMO's, RPG's, and FPS's. It is very unfortunate that Gearbox was the source of this idea.

Borderlands 2, much like Borderlands 1, starts off brilliant. Engaging story and characters, great immersive eviroments, great pacing and balance throughout. It is not until that Playthrough 2 that Borderlands 2, much like Borderlands 1, starts to rear its true head. Starting on Playthrough 2 (which by the way is an incredibly lazy thing for ANY developer to do. Give me a full game, not the same thing 2-4 times.) Gearbox throws out all working concepts of the setting they've established for the game so far:
    - You're super powerful.
    - You have the best guns. Period.
    - Enemies are psychotic, former scientists/miners. I.E, untrained with weapons, certainly less than a merc vault hunter.
    - The enemies don't wear armor (most) and have guns that are duct taped together, literally.

These things lead to a very easy and very enjoyable Playthrough 1 to get acclimated to the game if you're a first time BL player. However, as I stated above, Gearbox ditches all of these established concepts on Playthrough 2 in favor of:
    - You ain't ****
    - You're best gun on the entire planet now shoots spitballls.
    - Enemies are highly trained marine snipers capable of only hitting your head.
    - The enemies still dont wear armor and still have duct taped guns, but now instead of HP/Gun Damage to refect this, they do exponentially more damage than your "Best Gun on the Planet" and have exponentially more health than your "Best Health/Sheild Kit" on the planet.

What does this lead to? A totally underwhelming experience, a ton of balance issues, and a game that turns from enjoyable mass-murderous fun to a tediuous, arguous experience that fights you to enjoy it every step of the way.

    TL/DR:

    - Bullet Spongeing enemies DOES NOT equal increased diffuculty. This makes your dev team seem lazy and lethargic, and the game itself seem tedious and ill prepared. Bullet sponging enemies is also counterintuitive to collecting any gun, seeing as they all do a pittance of damage to the unarmored enemies. This means I spend 50 levels getting powerful, with no reward other than a chance to do it all again, upon which I am then underpowered indefinetly.

    - Balance! Don't include single player if you aren't going to balance it! On Playthrough 2, single player is literally impossible with all but 1 character, and even then you need to be a specific spec with that character for it to become do-able. Conversly, Online is stupid easy, even with just 2/4 people. Where the hell is the balance? BL1 suffered from this problem, and it was obvious then. Did they fix it in BL2, HAH! Not a chance.

This game fights you to enjoy it starting with Playthrough 2 in Solo/Single Player, and you'll fight to pay attention if you play Online because it's stupid easy. I honestly can't recomend this game to anyone, there are too many issues and too much incompetence within the development company for this game to ever shine the way it truely would in the hands of a capable developer.

Boss fights might be slightly stressful, and I personally was tired of it, but still after all it rewards with a good feeling of achievement. Besides after getting through the first map, more gun selection awaits, so next boss fights would be less stressful.

Perfectly balanced difficulty makes it a really exciting experience. The bad side of that would be no time to relax. Respawning enemies, boss fights, traps, and constant need to improve, and progress does not leave any room to take a breath, and enjoy the "safe room" time.

But still I have this feeling that I want to go back to it, so why not to leave 9/10? Also there is a multiplayer, for a plus.

First let me start by saying that this game is neat. I played Borderlands 1, but decided to pass on Borderlands 2 at the time of its release. I just recently picked it up a few days ago (it's now 02/21/2017), and the game originally came out 09/17/2012... so just shy of FIVE YEARS after the game released.

Again, game is fun, but here's the issue I'm having. I purchased the $40 GOTY edition, where in the past, most GOTY editions come with everything that's come out for a game... and would think almost 5 years later, they'd be more than happy to have everything bundled together for the $40 I paid. But no... and don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the 10 items that are included in Steam's GOTY edition... but then while I'm in game, I go over to the customization-station, and see at least 5 skins for the Gunzerker that have an "*" next to them and figured maybe that meant they were premium items that were included... go to equip one, to find out I have to pay $1 each for each of the 5 or so "*" skins, and while perusing, notice there's about 5 for each class. So 6 classes x 5 skins @ $1 a piece, that'd be another $30 right there for JUST SKINS. Then while perusing father, it dawns on me that the Season Pass also wasn't part of the package, which is another $30... then I see scenario packs (but from what I understand they'd be included with the Season Pass, so won't list their prices), but on top of that, there's other packs, like a second level-cap pack (GOTY included the first I believe), which is another $5.

Get where I'm going here!? $40 for GOY edition, plus $30 for JUST SKINS, plus $30 for Season Pass, plus $5 for the second level-cap pack (fairly certain that covers everything, but considering the lengthy list of DLC on Steam for this can't be certain)... so just to have the COMPLETE Borderlands 2 experience, even almost 5 years later, WITH a newer Borderlands (Pre-Sequal) that has released, looking at spending $105 at least!!! There's a "Borderlands: Take Over Your Life" pack for $129 which I believe included all Borderlands games, and I'd assume by the name everything for them... just WOW!

To be fair, I can at least recommend Borderlands 2 and perhaps even the GOTY edition, so long as you're going to just play the game and do your best to dodge all pay-walls and invisible dollar signs looming through the game... but I must say, so early on in the game to be struck in the face with, "oh, that'll cost you this much extra" after already having purchased the GOTY edition almost 5 years later on after the original release... I sadly am left with a "Need For Speed: Most Wanted" (the remake) impression... where immersion feels now a bit constantly broken, and honestly a bit gross, with pay-walls and missing-content and invisible dollar-signs looming all throughout the game. >_<

(From what I read about what's in the scenarios and the second level-cap pack, and skins, and other stuff... really feel like even after paying $40 almost 5 years later, there's still a decent amount that I'm missing out on. Honestly, I could easily afford the other $65 or more DLC, but the principle is just slapping me in the face like a stinky tuna-fish!)

The best part is that most of the side quests, and there are hundreds of them, are all different, with very little repetition. And then there are the guns. There are just so many guns its ridiculous. Some guns are similar to each other, but it really doesn't matter because of how many different characteristics they can have. You can either take your levelled character and play through the very tough VaultHunter Mode (the loot here is amazing) or pick one of the other classes. These are all so diverse it almost feels like a new game or an add-on.

If you are an FPS/RPG fan who doesn't own this game then you are missing out on a piece of gaming history. It's THAT good.

My main complaint is the fact that your character is limited to level 50. You have to buy add on or the GOTY edition to go beyond that level. It's not like this game as a free to play model and you buy options. I've paid a decent price for that game and I feel cheated. So if you want to buy it, get the GOTY edition.

Also, many patches after the release, they changed something which made the game much harder. I don't know if they weaken the characters or their weapons or if it was the monster that were much stronger. The result is you can get killed by normal monsters that are few levels below yours. And to make points for your characters, you have to fight monsters that are ideally slightly above your level. And I'm not even talking about boss monsters and so. See the picture?

Even if you've not played the first (like me) Borderlands 2 presents a very unique take on the Fallout-esque setting. Between the fun and witty writing and encouragement to do things as dramatic as possible, Borderlands 2 will make you feel like a badass.

Some notable things about the game:

    - Unique character Classes: No two class plays the same and some classes are unique to the shooter genre in general. The most notable of these are the Psycho, Mechromancer, and Gunzerker classes. The Gunzerker and Mechromancer turns the idea of FPSes on it's head as the former lets you wield two guns at once (which can be two rocket launchers, rapid-firing sniper rifles, or flat out machine guns) while the latter actively encourages you to aim badly via the Anarchy tree. The most drastic of all, however, is the Psycho class, which, for the first time in video game history, encourages a suicidal gameplay. Never before has a class encouraged you to charge in and die to get bonuses. The class also completely flips around the whole "Bringing a Knife to a Gun Fight" argument, as you can bring said knife and actually be BETTER than the gun.

    - A Bazillion Guns: This is quite literally true. Guns are not pre-made in the game, but are proceedurally generated from a combination of parts, skins and base design. with around 4-5 different parts per gun (Barrel, Magazine, sight, stock, and the core gun), 4 guns per manufacturer, something like 7 classes of guns per category, Legendary versions, and 5 elemental types, you literally will never see the same gun twice, not even through multiple playthroughs. And that's not even getting into unique versions of the guns or their manufacturer bonuses (Ever want a sniper rifle that shoots like a shotgun, or a shotgun that shoots like a sniper rifle?)

    - Awesome Writing: Handsome Jack will, within the first 5 minutes, chime in and tell you he bought a diamond pony and named it Butt Stallion after you. 30 seconds later he clarifies that it's not a statue, but a living breathing horse made of diamonds, just to show off how rich he is when insulting you. if that doesn't show just how spectacular the writing is to come, then google Mister TORGUE and see the gold flow. While humor is definitely it's defining trait, the series can also get seriously dramatic, such as finding out about the origins of Tiny Tina and what happened during the interm period between this and the original Borderlands.

    - Replayability: While the idea of re-doing the campaign at higher difficulties sound tedious, Borderlands somehow manages to make it fun and enjoyable. If you don't believe me just check out how many hours most people clock into the game. For some it's even higher than Dota, TF2 or CS:GO, which is honestly mindboggling for a FPS with a linear plot.

    - Feeling like a badass: Never has a game employed so many tropes into a single setting. From encouraging you to do an Unflinching Walk away from an explosion to having a literal gun that shoots swords (that explode into more swords), there will not be a moment you won't feel like an action hero.

The game is definitely one of the best to come out in a long while, and I highly recommend the GOTY edition. Even if it's not on sale, it's definitely worth every buck if you haven't played any form of it yet.

And like the first game, it is playable as a four-player co-operative game with easy drop-in / drop-out. If you're an fps fan you owe it to yourself to get this game. I realize that sounds a bit fanboyish, but really, Borderlands 2 is THAT good.
Installed size on my hard-drive (GOTY edition): 10.4 GB.

The number of areas to explore is huge. I don't have the exact data, but it feels several times larger than the first game. There is a lot of snow at the start, but there are rocky deserts, alpine meadows, and a slag-riddled environmental monstrosity awaiting at the end. Quick-travel points abound (usually at the entrances to areas), so it's easy to go from one place to another. In-game save points are unfortunately like the first game; even if you passed a quick-save point, then quit the game thinking you'll resume where you left off, well, you won't. When you resume, you'll be back at the start of the level. Levels are well designed, too – twisting and turning at times, while others are wide open.

The characters that we played in the first game (Roland, Lilith, Mordecai and Brick) are NPCs here, with the story centered around them. Angel, Claptrap, Moxxi, Scooter, Dr. Zed and Marcus return as well. So right away, stepping out into Borderlands 2 has a familiar vibe. Except now the enemy is the boss of Hyperion Corp, Handsome Jack. Colorful and distinct, there are enough personalities here to never lose interest – even when doing several of the fetch-quest filler missions (yes, they're back, but given the looting-and-leveling nature of the Borderlands games, probably unavoidable). While the story is great, I can't talk too much about it here without spoiling it. The early stages play out as a defy-the-odds hero tale as the player character defies Handsome Jack and escapes to the town of Sanctuary. Angel is still guiding you on your HUD, but your character catches her in a bit of deception. The second act reveals who (and where) she is – and sets the stage for the third act, which culminates in the showdown with Handsome Jack. I was genuinely curious about how this was going to resolve, and kept playing all the way through. This isn't even touching the side missions and quests for secondary characters. Side quests are a mixed bag. I was more than happy to free some animals for Mordecai; collecting body parts for Dr. Zed while a timer counted down was just annoying, and the rewards were barely worth it in either case (usually XP and a weapon which was far below my current level). The only reason to do a number of the side missions is because of the possibility of rare loot and character backstory. The rest are grindy level-fodder, needed for leveling up, but nothing else.

I solo'd most of Borderlands 2 – yeah, crazy – but the game worked well as a solo experience. The bosses were never too hard; just long. One boss took me 45 minutes of running, hiding, sniping, and running again (I was playing the commando class). Clearly the bosses were not designed for soloing. The loot drops were also disappointing. The guns for sale at the kiosks were always – and I mean always – worse than what I was carrying. It's better to loot new weapons than buy them. Which means that other than ammo, there's nothing to spend money on (except respawning). The best weapons are acquired by using a “golden key” on the special loot-drop chest in Sanctuary, so sometimes it's just easier to spend a golden key than spending hours poring over loot (some side-missions for Moxxi do provide decent weapons).

If there is a drawback to Borderlands 2, it’s the amount of DLC. There is a lot. Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep was one of the best pieces of DLC I’ve ever encountered, having a fun story that was uniquely told. The Captain Scarlett, the Creature Slaughterdome, and Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage DLCs provide solid additional content. But additional player classes as DLC? (The Psycho and Mechromancer DLCs) Raising the character level cap via DLC? (Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade packs) There are a number of DLC packs that focus on skins and such, but this level of “parting out” the game verges on the ridiculous. If the game were not complete without the DLC, it’d be time for a rant. However, without the DLC, Borderlands 2 still feels like a complete experience. I lament the DLC situation, but deduct no points for it.

Even after moving on and playing other games, I keep coming back to Borderlands 2. In an age when it’s cool to have “the latest”, Borderlands 2 inspires the sort of interest that kept me coming back again and again. A great achievement in fps video games, and a game that belongs in the library of any fan of the genre.

The gameplay seems a bit smoother, the art seems a bit more polished, and rocket launchers can actually do damage! That being said, there are a few things I would like to inform any potential buyers: 1. The loot system, while apparently expanded, seemed a tad bit limited. Oh sure, you find guns that have better stats and they might even have a new skin, but because all the gun manufacturers have their own "quirks" that apply to EVERY gun they make (i.e. all hyperion guns start out inaccurate but gain accuracy the longer you fire), all the guns seem rather similar. You no longer get the "HX480" prefix in your gun titles, which, while it might appeal to many gamers, also makes it harder to see if you have a gun made up of the perfect parts. Also, if you have been following the press releases about the game, the advertised "thrown together" aspects of Bandit guns are out. Originally there were supposed to be beer bottles in place of scopes and a screw that you look down when in ADS mode. It seems that now all bandit guns have is a "dirty" or graffiti'd paint job. 2. The environments have definitely been expanded upon, with caverns and mines filled with acid to a modern city open for you to loot and shoot your way through. The problem that might turn off some gamers is that the devs added more obstacles for you to run past so that there is a greater sense of progression. This is, in my opinion, a double edged sword because this leads to a cluster of terrain that is almost impossible to navigate without using the map. 3. Badass points: You gain badass points whenever you do challenges like "shoot x amount of enemies with sniper rifles". You can then spend these points on upping gun damage, reload speed, etc. This replaces the weapon proficiency system of BL1, so that some gamers wouldn't feel committed to using the type of gun they had used up to that point. On the other hand, you don't feel like you are improving with a certain weapon type, which cuts down on a bit of the RPG aspects IMO. 4. Gore: In order to release world-wide uncut, Gearbox disabled decapitations. In BL1, a headshot with a decent sniper rifle and *boom*. Head gone. In BL2, even though the blood from the headshot still spews out like in the prequel, the enemy models still retain their heads. This is a rather minor complaint, but judging from the Gearbox forums, there are a good number of people ticked off by this.

All in all, I think that this is a pretty good game. The only setbacks I thought it had were conscious decisions made by Gearbox and, while I might not be the specific market they are trying to appeal to, there is still enough shoot and loot for me to enjoy BL2 immensely. I'd also keep in mind that Gearbox was trying to release Aliens colonel marines and Duke Nukem Forever at the same time, which might explain the lack of innovation in terms of Bandit weapons. My hope is they balance the innovations (the manufacturer "quirks") in BL3.

A mechanically tight and beautifully rendered adventure. A little repetitive to get through, and the dialogue ranges from hilarious to cringey, but the proc-generated guns and fun world keep this title in the green for me.

Borderlands series developed engaging world full of colorfull characters, interesting stories and dark humor. But the gameplay in Borderlands 2 is the same as in the original: clunky mix of FPS and Action RPG. Gunplay is very weak, combat overall feels boring. Itemization is alright though.

A very high quality game, definitely worth your attention. It is fundamentally different from the bl1, so if you did not like the first one, feel free to try the bl2. The game is divided into several DLCs, without which it is not so interesting. But each of them is worth it. One of the best "looter-shooters" - a lot of guns, gear, quests and bosses. totally worth it.

An endless loop of "Get gun, shoot thing, get better gun" that doesn't work for me on any level. And the writing... I'm going to make a lot of people angry but there were very few characters that I didn't want to punch in the face. The sort of comedy they use in this game I THOUGHT I'd find pretty funny, but after a while it's grating beyond belief.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From the moment the player hears the greedy and ruthless gun salesman, Marcus’, monologue describing the bandit-roaming, monster-infested, world of Pandora, to the final battle with the comedic yet villainous, Handsome Jack, Borderlands 2 is a game that takes the player through a rollercoaster of emotions, and an endless pool of guns and gore.

Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, Borderlands 2 is a game very different from a lot of others. This game mixes elements from the First-Person-Shooter Genre and the Role-Playing-Game Genre and belongs in a genre known as a “shooter-looter”. This results in hours, maybe even days of gameplay, leaving the player in a state of never-ending fun with more equipment to search for, maybe even a state of insomnia and addiction, but at the end of the day, leaves the player feeling satisfied. The game of Borderlands 2 has many things to be hooked on about. Pandora is an open-world where the player can roam around icy tundra, dry deserts, and everything in between. The animations and art-style of the game are meant to be cartoonish, making it visually appealing, and gives off a comic book vibe.

The gameplay is also different from many other video games. Although this game does not have the freedoms of other RPG games like Fallout or Skyrim, there is one thing that Borderlands 2 has that’s special. There are many guns in the game, but each gun has its own type of rarity, ability, level and has a set of custom parts that the user can’t customize. Therefore, the player must find the gun with their desired customizations by luck, also known as “farming,” in a pool of millions of gun combinations. This keeps the player glued to their seat to find a gun they want. Although this might seem repetitive and boring, it feels like any other RPG game where grinding is tedious but rewarding. Many streamers take this aspect of the game to their advantage, as it is very entertaining to watch them farm for a gun they have been looking for, for a very long time. This also encourages and represents a kind of culture that is limited to many video games. Watching other people grind for equipment for hours and hours is part of the fun in Borderlands 2’s culture, which is an easy thing for a player to be drawn into.

Now the actual narrative of the game is somewhere the game tends to be overlooked. Players will usually find themselves farming rather than being drawn into the narrative, but that doesn’t mean the storyline has little to offer. The plot creates very good character development, which is a huge plus compared to many modern games. The side quests in the game also provide the player with some good character development and more opportunities to collect more weapons. However, some of the game’s quests, whether it be main or side quests, seemed a little boring, or repetitive. But that shouldn’t deteriorate the rest of the game’s storyline. It’s just that because the game is more based around farming than anything, many players won’t find themselves being hooked on the plot of the game past the first run-through.

Overall, Borderlands 2 is a game that is personally one of my favorites. It has aged well, and it has had the ability to make me clock in hundreds of hours into this game, with dozens of playthroughs. The game deserves a 9 out of 10. It does have it’s boring and repetitive moments within the game, but that shouldn’t undermine the potential of fun that the player can have, farming for the perfect gear, for a perfect build, in a nearly perfect game.

In my eyes, Borderlands 2 is the perfect sequel. It improved upon the original game in almost every aspect. The only issue I have with the game is the lack of replayability. Playing through the same story again with the same character just to get it to level 72 was a major chore, but nevertheless, it's something that I often go back to every now and then and have tons of fun playing.

It has a nice sci-fi story with funny characters and funny moments. The humor is very peculiar, with a lot of violence, blood and madness in the mix.

The mechanics are almost the same from the 1st Borderland and they are easy to adapt. The controls and options are almost the generics of any FPS. However, the system is more like what is common in RPG's, where enemies have a life bar that decreases as the damage is inflicted that is greater or less according to your stats.

Overall this is a awesome game with a lot to explore and do. Where you can easily spend a 20 hours plus to do the story. Its a "must have" to any Steam collection.

The Loot is all the same, open these boxes you get: ammo, grenades, health, shield, money.. yep thats it.
Then the weapon boxes all give you basically garbage loot most of the time, the white or green type of weapons which you will never use because the blue purple orange are simply better and those you get from a boss for example.
So the loot in general is also boring and makes you lose interest due to how low rewarding it is.

Next we go to the questing.
The quests are fetch quests, which means they are those korean mmo type quests, you talk to the NPC, then it usually commands you to do either (Kill those enemies, collect 10 of the fur of those monsters, find this item for me..) and so on, no story behind it, no character development behind it, nothing.. pure grinding.
The main quests have mediocre writing and humor behind them, this is acceptable but side quests are not, and in an open world game this is not okay.

Then the enemies, some main bosses are actually cool, but most of the enemies are more of the same, you keep shooting and then they respawn. then shoot again...duh gets boring pretty fast.

Basically in this game you keep shooting...just shoot and shoot and loot ammo then shoot these enemies who are not explained about or anything just keep shooting them then they respawn then keep shooting again and so on... its super **** boring.

Skill tress are all passive skills except 1 also contribute more to game being boring. no action at all, slow leveling and most of the weapons are copy past with some tweaks.

The good things are the music and the world art style, the main story is average, everything else is bad.

Co-op might make the game a bit better, but it will never make it a great game, it will still be the boring repetitive grind-fest that it is.

4/10 Way too overrated, cant find a good reason for its hype. I regret buying this game.

Story: just like the first one you play as a vault hunter , in the first game they were mere treasure hunters that would take on mercenary jobs now you play as people who came in search of tresure only to have handsome jack try to claim your life so you do the right thing and decide hey i should probs kills this guy. handsome jack is one of the greatest villains of all time id put him up there witch the joker and thanos , his impact on the world is huge even after his subsequent death he is with you through out the whole game , mocking you and even telling you to kill your self (so hes basicly a cyber bully) . but the greatest strength of the story is the supporting cast, the playable characters from the first game are fleshed out as npcs their personality's and relationships and more , characters have falling outs , they date , look up too other characters and some are even related or have been divorced by some , character relationships help make all the side characters feel real and true to life despite this being crazy eccentric personality's and the best example of this is tiny tina, yes shes hilarious and ashley burch nails every line as tiny tina But tiny tina still feels human we se her take revenge , make jokes , and grieve for her fallen friend the end of the tiny tina dlc is the saddest moments in video games . hell alot of the cast in this game has their own fandom.
    Story: 10/10

world building: borderlands world REALLY came into its own in this second outing each gun company has their own personality and it shows through their guns , sirens and written a little better making it so only 6 can exist in the universe at once adding to both sirens as a concept AND the sirens already present . all the creatures act differently and combat encounters are never the same and there is such a huge variety and knowing more about creatures can even help you fight them (weak points and behaviours). locations are given alot of importance and no location goes without a quest or something to make it interesting and each are varied in weather , colour palate and tone. not to mention the final scene of the main game with a map of all the vaults. the game got bigger and continues to get bigger and with the end of the second game borderlands has the ability to have as much lore as star wars .
    World building: 9.7/10

Graphics: for 2012 the graphics look great , borderlands 2 was ahead of its time stylistically as well as technicly (even if the style dose cover up some technical flaws) graphics is borderlands weakest element i know im contradicting my self , gun and skill animations are great and really polished BUT anything else is kinda awkward looking(includeing melee) characters walk around in such an awkward manor and over all movement in this game looks and feels too Straightforward. but thats just me nit picking and graphics are only the weakest part because i could find the most flaws with it witch are few and far between, the styles great the techs good and the animations that count are good plus locations are beautiful and this game will stand the test of time.
    Graphics: 9/10

Gameplay: this game is an absolute joy to play after how much iv played this game i still go through phases of wanting to play it (pokemon , fallout and skyrim also do this to me) guns as previously mentioned look great and feel great , rarity's affect stats and looks unlike in the first game. a lot of the eridium guns are innovative and fun, legendary s pack a serious punch makeing the act of just shooting some one a joy, there is also alot of easter eggs to find for those hunters.
    Gameplay: 10/10

Sound design: the music in this game is incredible both licensed and ost , and with the final line in the game being "aint no rest for the wicked" is a nice call back to the opening of the first game and its opening song. voice acting is incredible witch shouldn't be any surprise seeing as alot of these actors work for funimation the best anime localization company , colleen clinklebeard playing multiple characters and she is great at all of them, did you know tanis and lilith share a voice actor ?. the voices of each character are made with alot of love and you can tell the actors had a BLAST being in this game.
    Sound design 10/10

One of my favorite games of all time. I could place this again and again with ease. The graphics are perfect for the gameplay, the fighting couldn't be better, the story is intriguing and hilarious, and the DLCs are worth it.

The best of Borderlands so far (I haven't played the 3rd part yet). Solo gameplay is not so fun, however playing in co-op is the key to enjoy it.

The art stile of the graphics look a bit dated but won't bother you very much. The online is very alive and I know this is late but if you bought the Borderlands handsome edition on July and August (the start of August) You could get that for 5€! Which was one of the best Purachases i have ever made!

Unique, very fun, has amazing characters, and a pretty great story. I like the unique aesthetic a lot, The first playthrough all of those things stand out and make the game great. But after that when you get to the end game it changes into a loot grinder, which I personally like a lot.

It appears as tho it is impossible to make people happy. some consider the writing cringey, but the game never forces unfunny jokes, except for claptrap, which is the entie point of the character, and he can be ignored and forgoten about for forever after about 30 minutes. the gameplay is incredible, and people who say that it is "pretty flat and basic as a shooter" dont get the concept ofIt appears as tho it is impossible to make people happy. some consider the writing cringey, but the game never forces unfunny jokes, except for claptrap, which is the entie point of the character, and he can be ignored and forgoten about for forever after about 30 minutes. the gameplay is incredible, and people who say that it is "pretty flat and basic as a shooter" dont get the concept of this game, this game isnt call of f-ing duty. the weapons and elements feel awesome, the story flows flawlessy, so much so that i couldnt be pressed to do side quests because the story felt so good and naturally progressing, the game has not a single: go from point a to point B mission (in the main story, some in the sidequests, but they are still interesting and always have their own charme). i originally was very sceptic of it, but its unarguably in my tied "best singleplayer game ever" and can even be played with friends. Pros:

    Lots of replayability
    Good voice acting
    Humour
    Characters

    Cons:

Most of the guns in the game you can't shoot enemies with because of really bad recoil and scope sway
    Skill tree system
Overpowered enemies preventing you from playing the story
    Bugs
    Badly optimized

Fantastic characters and gunplay and mission design that holds up. The visuals and music is also on point. The lackluster story holds the game back.

매번 보더랜드 시리즈는 2편보다는 못한 뭔가가 있었다. 3편은 발암요소가 많고, 프리시퀄은 매력적인 악당이 전무했다. 2편이 그런게 없어서 가장 빛나는듯.

the story is good, not great as some parts will have you just running around the map listening to exposition but the chars in the story are memorable and enjoyable
the world is very distinct and from the ice of liersburg to the vasteness of the dust its places are also memorable, granted on some maps losing a ride means you are walking for 5m to the spawner to get another
overall if you enjoy fps and know what rpg mechanics are , you should enjoy this game EVEN if some of the writing might feel either outdated (some memes that for some reason snuck in) or crinjy (some chars are plain annoying to some, personnaly i am indeferent to tiny tina but ussually hear many complains about her from other players)
TL;DR: looter shooter done right, take notes Gearbox

Borderlands 2. Expand

It’s addicting, full of creative gags and amazing battles (especially in co-op mode) and it keeps dangling that loot-carrot in front of your face. Add that crazy humor on top and you have a synonymous for the world ‘entertainment’. [November 2012]

If you're looking for something with a ponderous story full of morality and contemplation – one best savored alone – then you'll need to look elsewhere. Borderlands 2 delivers tons of lighthearted, occasionally juvenile fun with immense replayability, and is best approached with a few buddies in tow. It doesn't revolutionize the concept pioneered by its forebear, but it refines it to a razor-sharp edge and offers some of the most fun you can have in a cooperative action RPG this side of Diablo II. And if nothing else, it's got lots of Claptrap.

The moment at which my endearingly annoying robot companion Claptrap fashioned himself a Mohawk out of some animal fur I collected he earned a spot on my all-time favorite robot list.
