The only flaw I can really find in this game is that the menus are unnecessarily clunky. Namely, the inability to use WASD to navigate menus (Skyrim, anyone?). But really, this is a wonderful game so far, and a much better piece of software than the terrible PC version of the first game was. :D Expand

Fantastic game. I must admit there were a ton of things to work on and a little bit of let downs but over all this game is definitely one of my top ten. There is so much to do, So much loot to take and trade, bad ass enemies and more. The comedy is silly and refreshing and this game will keep you busy for hours and hours.

In the beginning you think, "What a great game..."
The most important part is the gameplay. It is like Bioshock, so you build your character and shoot in ego perspective, but this game is much better, because the character development is much more interesting with his several classes, skills and items.
Graphics looks good, the comic look is annoying. And then there are problems:

    And then there are problems:
There is a mistake in the gameplay design: When you load a map the enemies are back and you need to fight them again -.- And even if you stay in the same map, the enemies are respawning. Feels like work, not fun and it is a big timesink.
Controlling is bad, because the inventory management is a nightmare... in a game where items are important...
46 DLCs...lol. Thats why I never play games short after release, but years after, when they are really ready (every addon and patch released).
Technically it could be better, installing mods is a nightmare + there are still many bugs, look at the unofficial Patch mod (that I cant install btw. -.-)
There are too many dialogues, that are senseless, have low content and feels like written for young people.
There is no fast saving, just save point system. Sounds like a console game

Gearbox has made another spectacular game that is great to play with friends or alone. With the almost never ending DLC that always add to the challenge to this game. With all games it has its bugs, but with updates they can be fixed. It just takes some time. I love playing this game with friends with finding all the humor, bugs, and Easter eggs. So i would love to rate this game a full 10/10!

Great loot system, great weapons/items variability. intelligence of AI is best for me so far i've never play any shooter with such crafty enemies. Best word I could use to describe this game is dull. I never felt engaged due to the boring gameplay & story, tedious loot mechanics, and annoying humor. Only redeeming factor is the art style, but I don't buy games for that. BL1 is slightly better.

Somewhere along the line, something went seriously wrong with the direction of this game. While the original Borderlands was nothing groundbreaking, it was greater than the sum of its parts; a cohesive, run-and-gun action RPG that pulled the quest for better loot out of high fantasy dungeons and into the post-apocalyptic wasteland. While the original Borderlands was nothing groundbreaking, it was greater than the sum of its parts; a cohesive, run-and-gun action RPG that pulled the quest for better loot out of high fantasy dungeons and into the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Borderlands 2 on the other hand feels like it was originally supposed to be a console MMO (that was then canned when Gearbox got the message that MMOs don't make money anymore) and instead repurposed it into whatever this mess is.

Let's start with the most glaring gameplay issue: weapon proficiencies have been removed, resulting in everyone being mediocre with every weapon type. Throughout my playthrough of the campaign, the majority of my weapons felt like they were spraying wildly; even rockets from launchers would come out at random angles, often missing a target ten feet away from me. Instead you get Badass points, a system designed to reward you with stat upgrades for doing arduous tasks such as breathing or shooting bad guys. Sure it might sound cool to have more options, but when you're made of paper and all your weapons spray like you're trying to shoot with a jackhammer it feels more like you are disabling handicaps instead of improving your character. The worst part is these stat increases have diminishing returns and you are forced to spread them; less chosen stat increases appear more often when you rank up, preventing you from rapidly increasing in any one stat. Your Badass rank is account-wide, meaning all characters will gain their buffs. If you're somehow addicted to this game, that's great for your alts, but I was obvious dead weight for my veteran allies online.

Loot options feel much more constrained in BL2. Gearbox can brag about the millions of guns but when the only worthwhile weapons are at the top rarities, who cares about all the blues and greens? Weapon effectiveness seems to dropoff a lot faster in BL2 (probably because of no proficencies), with the only weapons worth using more than 5 levels being uniques and legendaries. Of course these weapons should be the best and last for a long time... but why should I be expected to pull serial codes from internet social media to get a guaranteed "worthwhile" weapon? I saw a single legendary weapon drop during the 25 or so hours I spent playing through the campaign and even that was a mediocre rifle that was unusable after a few hours. The majority of the game I was using quest rewards because they were the best weapons I could find. Again, who cares about the millions of guns when I'm using generic handouts from NPCs anyway?

Of course all of this is just the surface of the problems with this game. After years of patches there are still tons of bugs (mouse cursor doesn't appear with a controller plugged in, getting stuck in surfaces, mouse movement breaking, various broken textures), the writing is terrible with all the characters being turned into unlikeable jerks, the story is way too long and padded with checkpoints for fetch quests, map edges are poorly defined resulting in seemingly random death pits, character classes are blander, weaker, and more boring than the original... the list goes on. I honestly hated this game and I just wanted to finish it because my brothers did. I would not recommend this miserable experience to anyone.

If you are still reading you're probably wondering why I gave this game a bad score. Well it is because I highly disagree with how Metacritic bases there reviews. Instead of taking the collective scoring of all their reviews, they take the reviews that were voted most helpful. For example: a game gets the reviews, one 1/10 and six 10/10. If the one 1/10 get lets say four positive votes and the six 10/10 get none, the end score will be 2/10 for the game. I do highly recommend this game I just hope people read before finding a review helpful.

If you agree with me please up-vote this review, and may I wish you a wonderful day.

You will no longer receive damage from falling, no matter how high you will jump, your challenges now will give you a little -yet essential- bonus ; you don't need to repair Claptraps anymore to expand your backpack and you won't need to spend 600000 dollars in a single weapon upgrade (Crazy Earl will do that for Eridium - a new kind of currency in Pandora), this game doesnt label your character ; what do I mean ? That you can play as Zero and use assault rifles, you can snipe with Axton, you can do everything you want, because you've 3 different Skill trees to each character, making 3 different ways of gameplay with each one. Borderlands 2 it's all about fetching quests and looking for new and more powerful guns, and it delivers pretty well. The sidequests are the real GEM of this game, you will laugh your ass off with that sweet humor that you can only find in Borderlands. Our beloved characters are back, you can drink with Moxxi (from Mad Moxxi DLC), Catch a Ride with the funny (probably one of the funniest characters in the game) redneck Scooter and his sister Ellie, high five and dance dubstep with Claptrap, or help Roland/Mordecai/Lilith and Brick to defeat the biggest prick of Pandora - Handsome Jack. All in all Borderlands HAS EVERYTHING that I care about - Funny and good story (and sidequests), LOTS of guns, Solid Cell-shading graphics, an awesome 4 people strategic co-op, a HUGE word with tons of new enemies and Claptrap - I'm still checking this little guy dancing. - in my opinion the voice acting of many enemies is obscene, with midgets crying like little babies when they die, goliaths shouting as demented "looney tunes" cartoon characters, et cetera.
    - difficulty is quite variable, from incredibly easy to very tough depending on same level quests, - inventory is too much reduced,
    - quality loot is extremely rare, and unlike in Borderlands 1 enemies rarely drop the guns they are using during the battles. the last 2 feature are not a huge problem, but if we consider the overall tone of the game, the result is very much a delusion.
I'm very sorry to write this, but it is what I really think after playing Borderlands 2. There are anyway some good features, as
    - the variety of the classes - the variety of situation the player has to face during the campaign quests and the side quests. - The environment is quite beautiful and the cars available are really fun to use. - Claptrap is as always a funny egocentric robot, the only part of the game that made me smile a little bit. This is it. More objectively, the game is not worth its price, even if the DLCs have been quickly dispatched from gearbox right after a few weeks.

This game sounds nice to start of with, lvling and loot combined with a first person shooter.
There are however some major mistakes in this game which make me give this game a 4/10.

First of all there is the engine, im not talking about the graphics and the style of it im talking about the numerous bugs in the engine almost a year after release.
Constantly getting stuck behind small ledges of 1cm or 1 inch high and also mobs sticking through objects.
Lets not forget loot being stuck under mobs.

Then there is the game balance which is far from balanced, if you cant even balance out a single player game like this you have some serious problems with your development team.

The time i played this game i played this game as zero and with this you have 3 tree's you can spec into.
I mostly tried the sniping and the melee tree's and those 2 are just so unbalanced compared to eachother.
With the sniping tree you can easily one shot any same lvl normal mob from a save distance and kill the difficult ones with a few more before they get near you.
If you have some luck the mobs bug and you basicly shoot them while they dont shoot back.

Then there is the melee tree which is like it says based around melee, however after you one shot a normal mob you get one shot yourself by the elite mob because you cant get somewhere save.
Simply because you dont have any survivability after you destealth.

When a game as simple as this already shows those kind of major flaws in game design and character balancing it doesnt deserve a high score.

Right now its 40 euro's on steam which is if you ask me overpriced, if the game is like 20 or less you could buy it and see for yourself im right.

You will however be lured into buying the dlc which are basicly just content patches trying to milk out the franchise without giving any service after you buy it.

borderlands 2 should have been an addon to the first. seeming as the first games DLC was spectacular, and they decided to change hardly anything for the second game.

then again, could that be a good thing, countless games second installments rarely live up to its predecessors, yet this feels so naturally borderlands that its like playing the same game. i would therefore say that it porbarbl is an improvement.

its not helped by deciding to start you in the ugly barrand snowwy peaks which are just awful to look at.

as for the love letter from claptrap, yes it has nice options, but i was still expecting more, i dont just want an option of "low medium and high" i want to choose the precice distance. anything that is in that .ini file, i want as an option!

the PhysX is rarther nice though, just adding that little sparkle, but none of the Physx effect fit in with the rest of the game. the style is all wrong, so it just looks unatural.

and of course my biggest gripe. since the underdome addon i think it was brutaly clear that this game is heavily focused on multiplayer co-op. by all means, we need more co-op gaes out there, but dont punish me for being a single player. its not quite EA's level of ONLINE IS NUMBER ONE, ONLINE MUST DOMINATE" but as a single player i would like to be able to have some automatic function that if i do get downed, i can pay to revive myself on the spot, not have to go through a new you station and therefore reset all the enemies in that level, to simply die the same way as before. it feels as though 2K just didnt listen to a single person, and simply went their own way creating what is even worse than what activision do with their call of duty franchise.

and my final gripe is the classes. by al means, add new classes, but dont mess up our previous classes. i had to run with the boring soldier, as there was no hunter with the formidable and amazing bloodwing.

all i can say is i fear that i will once again bugg out after spending 40 grueling minutes trying to fight a boss that was designed to be killed with 4 players (cough crawmarex the invincible cough), and simply get responses of "well maybey you should just play some c-op with friends"

Hopefully Gearbox will expand their story lines in the planned DLC.

The biggest improvement for me is the variety of mobs compared to the first game. PC port is okay, the in game inventory interface are still a bit strange though.

Even for the AAA title price tag this game is a must for every FPS fan.

Pretty standard FPS fare that demands to be played co-op, the solo experience tends to be a little monotonous; go here, kill this, repeat. Has some neat customization and funny dialogue but often feels as though it's fishing for memes.

This game is easily one of the funniest games I've ever played. Some of the jokes are just so superb that I found myself having to pause for a minute cause of laughter. The gameplay is fun and there's a ton of stuff to do, especially if you buy the DLC for the game. The biggest issue I had is still the fact that the game sometimes asks to much of the player. I feel like some of the quests you do can take almost an hour and the reward is most often lackluster. I personally only picked up guns from a few places throughout the game as I found myself not even doing most of the side missions cause the rewards were fairly bad. Plus the story gets really serious toward the end, which kills the vibe the game had going for it the rest of the time. This story was meant for humor, as were the characters. But the end of the game is just one buzz kill after another. It's definitely what you expect to happen but they went about it in the worst way possible. The game is best played with 4 people but can be played with one. While I wouldn't have voted it for any GotY awards last year, it's still a great game to play, no matter the big problems it faces. With the prospect of more DLC incoming, you could potentially play this game for quite a long time going forward. Expand

Still working my way through this one, but a really obvious shortcoming is the coop mode which offers no gameplay changes at all to singleplayer. The lack of team-direction and team specific content means you rush through the singleplayer campaign at the average speed of your team, not your own pace, leaving you with a far weaker experience. The increase in AI unit health that balances out the number of players can feel rather silly and forces you to forget the better damage feedback you got from solo play. Also, it can feel very unsocial to pick up loot in the face of your teammates. Hard to give more than 5 points with such an average impression after 6h of solo play and another couple in coop, especially when comparing it to other shooters or games with a similar theme. Expand

This is a great game that is brought down by some bad design decisions. First off the 3d inventory and skill menus are horrid. The 2d menus from BL1 worked just fine. To counter this Gearbox, evidently, decided to make BL2 harder. The problem is that it is a bit too hard in spots for many gamers in play through one. In play-through 2, labeled True Vault Hunter Mode, it gets far, far harder. I have heard many complaints on this mode. Since you don't get to fill out all the skill trees for your character in play-through one, closing this mode off to some of your player base is disturbing. The game also requires a lot of farming because drop rates of good equipment are low enough to require it to progress. No, you won't be playing the game organically, you have to meta game. Don't get me wrong, this is a great game at its heart. It just isn't consistently fun and there are plenty of games out there nowadays that are. Expand

Look childish & console based, that's how Halo sells so well. But mixing it with cruelty & some little horror theme? Confusing!

Takes a good mind to learn how to use the inventory system, swap guns. Finding waypoints that went way out of the mapped map view with no pointed arrow ... huh?! Went into a new region that player don't has enough XP points and Level to venture on, impossible to kill anything in the new region, but able to break mineral rocks to collect level 30 XP weapons that can be sold for over $1,000 while back in the "normal" region you only get to pick up $1 to $3 from cabinets?

Too much works put into this one, end up with not such a big mess. Playable, but knew better why other game makers wont' venture down this kind of path since it's not cost effective & less in revenue return.

Selfish players go on their own with no consequence. The game does little to nothing in awarding team oriented actions, and punish the lone rangers (monster spawns for lagging players would be very effective). The guns and the AI personalities are the most interesting points of the game. Network connections are buggy, and host based. If the host bails from a story/mission, the game ends. And finally, the graphics. Borderlands2 could have done a much better job at graphics, but they took the easy way out. The cartoon/art graphics is unique, but woefully inadequate in comparison to today's video capabilities that developers can exploit.

Shooting monsters is the fun part, when you can actually get to them. Outside of that, mass boredom.

    1. Better visuals than the first game, albeit slightly. With details cranked to maximum Borderlands 2 (a DX9 game) is surprisingly one of the prettiest on the market, thanks in large part to an impressive art-style.

    2. Story. Unlike in the first game, players have a very real objective and a very real enemy from the moment the game starts. This is an improvement over the first game, as it's always important to get the player involved early in the story.

    3. Gunplay is extremely satisfying. Aiming down the sights, shooting from the hip - however you go about it, the gameplay in Borderlands 2 is very intense and very satisfying. The enemies are tenacious, and are intelligent enough to dodge gunfire and predict your movements.

    4. Rewarding. The game rewards the players with a non-stop barrage of usable weapons and loot. This is a refreshing change of pace for someone coming over from Diablo 3.

    5. Well optimized. This game is not very demanding and can be played on max settings without being too greedy with system resources. Just about any mid-range machine can play this game to it's fullest potential, and it runs like a dream.

As I said before, I will add more as I play more. But I can already tell that Borderlands 2 is something very special.

You're gonna face the same enemies over and over again, along with a story you're already gonna know what's going to happen before finishing it. The characters have some personality but most of them are annoying because they're trying too hard to be funny, like the little girl acting all ghetto, claptrap is probably the only good one. I expected a lot more from this game but it didn't live up to the hype it got. If there's gonna be a third part they sure need to come up with new stuff. I've been primarily a PC gamer since before Wolfenstein 3D, and after all this time, I am completely unable to understand how people can be so ridiculously critical of PC games. This game is being vilified as a console port? Seriously?? The graphics are vastly improved over the original, there are options to change TONS of graphics options (including the oft-asked-for field of view), the controls are rock-solid and customizable, and there are only a few bugs. I'm honestly starting to believe that PC gamers are going to whine until there are no more consoles, period. Dark Souls was the roughest port I've ever seen, but the game was still awesome, and I want to see more console games on PC. Rant aside, this game is awesome. While it is not radically different than the first, the mechanics are all improved, and the game has been expanded greatly. If you liked Borderlands 1, you will love 2. If you didn't like 1, you probably won't like 2 either. The characters are all diverse, and the abilities are a lot more useful and powerful (Phaselock in particular is insanely handy). I went through Borderlands 1 without using the special abilities really at all, but that's not the case with 2. Guns are widely more varied now, and are interesting to collect. The only criticism I can say about guns is that in the early part of the game, I ran out of ammo INSANELY quickly. In multiplayer, you share money, eridium (used to buy upgrades), and even ammo (the other player gets half of what you pick up). Sharing loot can still be a sore spot in multiplayer matches, but if you're playing with friends, it shouldn't be a huge problem. The way character upgrades work is a lot better than Borderlands 1 as well. In 1, you only leveled up weapons that you used, which led to people sticking to one type of gun from the very beginning. In 2, however, you work on "challenges" that give you points you can use towards certain unlocks. It's a much more elegant system. ***************************************************************************************** Bottom line, Borderlands 2 is a very well-done game that surpasses the original in every way. If you were bored by Borderlands 1, pass 2 up, but if you loved 1, you will love 2. Expand

Claptrap is often actually amusing - Gearbox clearly realized how annoying he became in the first and made him the butt of some honestly funny jokes here. Gun handling is tight and I'd say the PC version is truly a "PC version", not a "PC port" - much unlike the first game, they put in the time to do it right. The difficulty is turned up a few notches, though - my Siren character regularly gets curb stomped which didn't happen much in the first game. The game is clearly balanced for multiplayer, but it's still a lot of fun single player - just don't expect to dominate everything on your first try like in BL 1. In short, this is a truly excellent followup. If you liked Borderlands you absolutely need to get this; if you didn't, skip the first and try this out. Especially for PC, it is literally better in every way. Expand

In stark contrast to the first Borderlands, the story is actually compelling and the superb voice acting makes it hard not to be drawn in. The humor plays a big part as well and never feels out of place in the abstract Borderlands universe.
The graphics look great on both high AND mid range systems, offering highly stylized graphics that still have a touch of realism.

The first Borderlands game was a solid 9.0 across the board. I have played thousands of games in my lifetime and this is one of the very few games to take itself and its customers so seriously as to make a sequel that is better in every way imaginable. Nothing this explosive as a sequel has come out of the industry since Mario Brothers and Final Fantasy. Since then gamers have been getting ripped off in every way imaginable it seems BL2 even released with fewer bugs than I have seen in a PC release in over a decade.

I very rarely write game reviews since there is so much garbage out there, but this game deserves a lot of gamer love.

Gearbox listened to the feedback us nerds provided and answered by getting rid of the weak co-op and adding a tremendous amount of the things we enjoyed. Great dialog, creative environments, smooth gameplay, luscious looting. I am tempted to give it a 10.

The game is fantastic. They addressed a number of config problems from borderlands one, resulting in a much smoother PC experience. The mobs feel great, the quests are just in line with what I wanted in terms of difficulty, variety, and story. Ugh... I normally don't post these but after reading a few of the negative reviews I felt compelled to. First off, this is not a console port. Borderlands 2 looks better and runs better than Borderlands 1 for the plain and simple fact it was optimized for PC. I'm running a $200 ATI video card I bought last November and the game runs fine.

Second, it does not have day one DLC. I'm sorry everyone, but if it was there I probably would've bought it. It does however have DLC coming out in a month that the developers worked on after the game went gold. If you pre-ordered the game, you get the DLC for free. The people moaning about this either didn't get the memo or forgot to pre-order. Its not our fault you missed out, every game gets pre-order goodness now and this game was no different.

Third, the game does offer a "season pass" for DLC. They aren't common, but it has been done before with games such as Saints Row 3. This is an optional purchase that will get you all of the DLC released over the next year (more or less). This is not an earth-shattering money grab, you are guaranteed to receive at least a set amount of DLC. It may even include the new character class (rumor I heard, but I have not independently confirmed it).

Fourth, if you didn't enjoy Borderlands 1 you probably will not enjoy Borderlands 2. I'm sorry, it doesn't have 32 player competitive multiplayer. Boo-freak'in-hoo.

Now, for those of you who want someone's opinion who knew what they were buying...

Graphically, the game is a minor improvement. It makes use of more shaders (reflective ice for example) and has been optimized for framerates.

The game no longer goes through Gamespy and accesses your Steam friends list. Port-forwarding is no longer required to host games (damn, that was annoying).

The weapon system has been tweaked so that weapons can use more than 1 ammo per shot, there are also new types of grenades such as "homing mirv sticky grenades". Health, ammo and cash will auto-loot in combat.

The humor is reminiscent of General Knoxx. If you have ever watched Frisky Dingo, Handsome Jack's lines seem like they were written for Xander Crews. Lines such as "... why don't you turn around and... what the hell happened to your face!"

Quests however seem to reuse zones a bit more though not as excessive as say Dragon Age 2. It is however more noticeable than Borderlands 1 and the enemies don't scale up. Boss fights and zones are now repeatable within a single game session.

Targeting... is a lot more specific in this version. If you are even a pixel off from hitting a mob, they will not be hit. There is a target assist, but I don't recommend using it

The max level is 50, expect Gearbox to dangle increased level caps in DLC. That's exactly what they did in Borderlands 1 DLC. I would've have preferred more levels and larger skills trees... but we don't all get what we want.

The game rewards players with multiple characters with the "bada**" system that allows you to take incremental upgrades based on achievement completion that affects all characters. It can be toggled off.

Overall, I'm happy with the game. Its not the breakthrough that Borderlands 1 was but it is an evolution of the game concept with some risky features added in. If you are looking for a game with an intricate story, this game isn't for you. Solo play may even be downright boring. But if you've got friends or don't mind playing with random people, cooperative play is where this game really shines.

Gameplay (As an Assassin, my experience) involves actively dashing around while getting as many well-aimed criticals as possible, also a plus. Enemy interaction and personality has MUCH more depth than before, but I have noticed a few bugs with the AI (for example, it's not uncommon to see a bandit looking straight up and shooting at some nonexistent target). Aside from that bug though, I see nothing but improvement over the first game, which was already fun enough on its own. All in all, if you liked the original, you'll like the sequel even more. On top of that they added some things that I felt to be completely out of line, like the first recorder and it's story(google it). It just sets the tone for a really depressing game. I can only play through it once, as it is that depressing and tasteless. It seemed the sense of humor of the devs got sucked out by some aliens or something.

Also one of my biggest gripes is the huge downgrade of backpack capacity. You can tell from the excuse that Gearbox posted that the writer was trying really hard to come up with a reasonable response to the small backpack. They really screwed the pooch there.
