Well...I need to say that this thing is f**ing amazing, I've never got so addicted to a game before, the game is awesome, and has that improvement on the history that I know that everybody wanted, and the DLC's came to get me crazy....I....I can't even say how much I love this game, just waiting for the pre-sequel

We have been playing a ton since. The games missions don't feel near as repetitive to me as Destiny but at times are a slight bit tedious. The bosses make up for it though. All the boss encounters have been fun and manageable. Graphics maxed out look really good especially with the unique textures they use. There were a few surprising parts in the story as well. I did not expect to get attached to any characters in the game due to all the comedy, but you definitely do. Expand

Even the enemies are diverse and interesting. So many different kinds of enemies, from the large variety of bandits that say all manner of things when fighting you and the strange alien animal enemies such as skags, bullymongs and many others.

No matter how many times I play this game I never get sick of it. Iam playing my third character and levelling her to max lvl and am still enjoying myself.

The game also has RPG elements such as you have various skill trees to put points in as well as can customise the look of your character by skins and heads, though most of the more interesting ones you have to pay for.

And you can try and do all the challenges if you do get bored which increases your badass rank, giving you tokens to put into increasing things like health, shield recharge rate etc. by a small .% of each token used, so it adds up and makes your character even stonger as you'll need it if you want to face terramorphous a very challenging lvl 52 super boss.

There is not really any major downsides I can think of with this game, had no bugs or problems, the controls are good.

The only negatives I can think of is that I tend to out level quests, I end up lvl 19 and have a lvl 15 quest. And if you want the best loot you have to do a lot of boss farming.

This game I'd class as almost perfect in my top 5 of all time favourite games. This is a must play game.

When most people compile a mental list of the best open-world first person shooters these days, a few games come to mind, and 'Borderlands 2' is usually one of them. You just can't help but love this game from the moment you set sights on it's beautiful cell-shaded art style, and hear it's over the top potty-mouthed humor. It's got vehicles, it's got massive guns and explosives with the ability to upgrade them at will, there's tons of mini-bosses, tons of boss bosses, enemies and villains alike, it's got an atmosphere that feels completely immersive despite it's cartoonish overtone; it's got everything you would come to expect from a polished AAA title, and it does it all extremely well.

Aside from the basics mentioned above, I think this game's biggest selling points these days is the fact that it's often on sale for as little as five measly dollars, still has a strong multiplayer community, has an extremely long single player campaign, and is as polished as titles get. I could go on and on about the characters, the storyline, the XP system, or the lay of the land, but what's the point? It's all good. You know this already. That's why you're here, and if it's on sale for five bucks then you should pick it up and play it like you stole it, because in many ways you did. This game is the epitome of why we buy our games on Steam; three tacos would cost you more!

The borderlands series is a fantastic FPS with a unique art style. Borderlands 2 is basically just an amped up version of the first, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better. There were a bunch of new and "improved" weapons, but the majority of them seemed flawed in some way. The repetitive gameplay set in after a little while and there was actually a glitch for one of the quests. This frustrated me completely because I wasn't able to truly finish all the quests. There aren't many cutscenes and those that exist seem forced. Once I got familiar with the game and felt like I was really getting into it, I'm suddenly defeating this huge boss, without even realizing it was the boss. That was it. The game was already over and it left me there wondering, "Is this a joke? The game will continue after this, right?" Alas, it did not. Overall, I did like the game, but there were definitely flaws and my replay value is not very high. Expand

It's a very good rpg shooting game, that's my opinion. The gameplay are great, the graphic is good, and the story is well written. But some missions are very confusing such as "lost treasure" mission, you'll have to find all of them in the big green circle, it pains me. Anyway, I won't stop playing this because it's very addicting.

The game hits all right marks for being genuine and limitless fun. At the begining I thought is's not for be being avid heavy PC RPG gamer, but , man, i was so wrong! There is an overdose of plot where previously there was next to none, for starters. It still has a host of problems- the shared stash is painfully small, the ambient rather then omnipresent music still fades unnoticably into the background (excellent title and credits music by The Heavy not withstanding) and it remains a poor choice for single player. However, it is an excellent party game, an experience best shared with friends and memorable for it. Ease of connectivity has been greatly improved, though given the first game's rather pathetic netcode that's not saying much. There are more useful guns, a greater diversity of skills with less focus on specific weapons and more on combat utility, and generally more room to experiment without being shoehorned into "that one build." Oh, and the cars. Good lord, did they fix the cars.

2015 Update: After having put over 200 hours into this game and playing every addon from Captain Scarlett to the Son of Crawmerax, broke my characters with a save editor, and got stomped on by raid bosses, and experienced the phenomenon of no gun ever doing quite enough damage, I can safely say that Borderlands 2 in its entirety is a wild ride, but not without severe flaws. It's a game I kept coming back to with friends in spite of its annoyances, and the more I played, the more it felt like an old, familiar friend with bad aim. Much like other Diablolikes, you eventually hit a power plataeu where enemies hit so hard and you waste so much time and ammo killing them that you'll get pretty bored- but by that point, the game has served its purpose. There was plenty of laughs along the way. I fell in love with the world and characters from the very beginning, and I leave the game with more fond memories then not. I expect more and better from Gearbox in the future.

Borderlands is a series that I feel very mixed about. On one hand, I love the world, characters, et cetera. On the other hand, Borderlands 2 has absolutely ruined any semblance of fairness and balance. In the first game, I could go in solo and have a reasonable expectation of success. Obviously you never will come out unscathed, but you could carry health kits to offset it a bit.

In the second game, it backhands you and throws any concept of fair out of the window if you dare to show your face around it without friends, especially early on/late game. It got to the point that in the final sections of the game, attempting to do it without absolutely the best equipment was futile, as enemies would annihilate you just by sneezing in your direction. After playing the first game, I did plenty of research on characters and builds before setting off into the second game. I settled on Axton for my first full playthrough.

It would seem obvious but to the mad idiots at Gearbox it might bear repeating. Starting a game fighting giant yeti's that can jump across entire zip/post codes, outrun you, knock you back across entire zip/post codes, take out most of your shields in one hit, spawn by the dozens, and spawn with a variant that is constantly throwing **** at you with literal pin-point accuracy and capable predict your movements with no margin of error IS NOT FUN.

It gets better after you stop encountering those unnamed white **** heads, but not by much. People say if you want to be OP, just sidequest. Those people are filthy **** liars. With copious sidequesting and a decent build/equipment, the final zone leading up to Handsome Jack absolutely destroyed me relentlessly. I went from several hundred-thousand dollars to a few thousand from dying alone, which resulted in forcing me to download a save editor and kit myself out with top of the line gear.

It's such a **** shame after how good and fun the first game was solo that they felt the need to **** on anyone who doesn't want to play multiplayer by making it so relentlessly difficult. Thankfully, the community doesn't seem to be as braindead about it as the community of some other games are, and the consensus from what I've seen is that the game will absolutely hate you and make no secret of it if you play solo.

I realize that this review probably comes off as a bit light, but there is no one single thing I can point to that proves why it is such a slog solo. Enemies that don't stop moving making it impossible to get a good shot at them more often than not. Enemies that will purposefully run away from you when you enter fight-for-your-life, unfairly forcing you to bleed out and start the area from the start. Gun mechanics that make cartoon guns look realistic, you'll rarely find a gun that isn't a pile of ass and recoil. Enemies with projectile attacks that literally cannot miss unless you stop moving, wait for them to launch, then move, then hope that it's friends didn't brutalize you too bad while standing still.

Last thing is not something I normally pay any attention to, but when I get FPS drops on a Gigabyte OC 980 and a 4.5GHz CPU on a game this old is an absolutely shameful job optimizing the game. I can run Dishonored 2 maxed out and my GPU is well below the recommended.

The game does nothing new either, however, the first game brought with it a working formula, so it makes sense that it hasn't changed - but you do find yourself wishing that it had changed, adding a layer of depth beyond fetch quests and collecting loot. Having said that, the concept is still as enjoyable now as in the first game and I've had a blast playing through it in co-op (and now replaying it with a different class build at the higher level difficulty). My main issue is eventually you are given the ability to fight one or more 'raid bosses' that require 4 people to play. In a game where you can play all the way through solo, or with just one friend this is disappointing to suddenly have to play with strangers to progress. This is especially hard to do in a game where weapon drops can be picked up by whoever is closest and it is up to them to share or not. This is the only item keeping me from scoring this as a 10.

Borderlands 1 & 2 also seem like they take a lot of elements from MMORPG games like World of Warcraft. There are quest givers. There are bosses. There are loot drops of randomly enhanced items. You choose the class you want to play, and each class has a unique ability. You level up your characters, and you assign talent points. All very much like MMORPG's. And the loot drops are insane at times -- to the point that item management gets to be a heavy chore.

If you have a friend that you like to play FPS games with, buying this is a no-brainer. It's a helluva lot of fun. But make sure you buy the Game of the Year edition, because it's the most feature-complete version out there.

The thing I love about this game is that while some sidequests are simple and boring errands, still many of those sidequests are actualy both fun and interesing and enrich the main story. Here and there you get a great gun or a fun sidestory or a silly villain or... everything of that at once! I`d say that Handsome Jack managed to lead me through the story just like Vaas did in Far Cry 3 - in a different way ofcourse but still - complicated character, sometimes funny sometimes bloodthirsty. Kept me going the whole time with no sign of boredom whatsoever.

    AI
Very good. Lots of different types of enemies attack you in lots of different ways. You have to use some strategy depending on who you face. There are melee runners, snipers, riflemen, tanks, kamikazes, midgets, retards, yuppies and more. Some of them even use the loot dropped by their dead fellowmen against you.

    GAMEPLAY
Outstanding. Gunplay in this game is yet to be rivaled. You get just about any type of a wapon you can think of. Add to that a set of different effects each wapon causes and you have thousands of variants. The player can customize his inventory 100% to his likes and can play the game in any way he wishes. So every encounter is different.

    GRAPHICS
Slighly better than Borderlands. In my opinion it shows its age already but the map variety and artstyle compensates for it 100%. You don`t really pay attention to the graphics here as the maps are very fun and complicated. Character models are ok aswell.

    DLCs
This game has dlc of exceptional quality. Each of them add something to the story. Besides buffing your character you get to meet some new people and their own stories. They are both challenging and rewarding. Lots of gameplay value for the price.

Overall a great title that is sure to satisfy every fps gamer. It is interesting, beatiful fast, has heaps of gameplay with a lot of tongue in cheek humor and references. A wonderful exception to todays cashgrab trends, provides at least 100 hours of sheer entertainment.

So maybe you've played Borderlands. Maybe you loved it and played some/all of the DLC. And then you saw/heard that BL2 is just more of the same.

It's true - this isn't a revolution in gaming, nor a clean slate... but it is a fine continuation of the things that worked well in the original, and there are plenty of new twists, so that this doesn't feel like just another episode (like FIFA13 or MW2). It's also true that not all the jokes are funny, and all those 'new' guns are just tweaks.

But all that aside, I'm having more fun with this one than the first one, to be honest. The gameplay doesn't get old quickly, and the main villain is great fun. I finished the main storyline and immediately found myself having another run... you just don't mind trying to find new ways of going about the same challenges. So if you can deal with not having a completely new experience, then you're in for a treat. Think of it as revisiting one of your favorite movies, but in an extended, director's cut - it looks familiar, but you love seeing the movie again, and there's plenty of new stuff to make it feel fresh.

Borderlands 2 takes what made the original so much fun and builds on it with a much more fleshed out story, more weapon types that actually matter based on the enemy you're fighting, great new characters, huge, different explorable locations (Caustic Caverns may be my new favorite setting in any game ever), and just a generally positive face lift that doesn't change a formula that doesn'tBorderlands 2 takes what made the original so much fun and builds on it with a much more fleshed out story, more weapon types that actually matter based on the enemy you're fighting, great new characters, huge, different explorable locations (Caustic Caverns may be my new favorite setting in any game ever), and just a generally positive face lift that doesn't change a formula that doesn't need to be changed. I see a lot of people talking about how they loved Borderlands and complaining about how Borderlands 2 is "more of the same". I don't personally see a problem with that, they've tightened up some of the controls, added auto pickup for cash and ammo (that mostly works), and tweaked here and there to make it a more exciting experience. That has been more than enough for me to get 50+ hours out of the game so far and enjoy every single minute of it. Expand

The story is funny and deep if you want to follow it, or you can just blast everything in sight.

The loot is fantastic and diverse and upgraded weapons do make a big difference (unlike skyrim)
I think the leveling system in B2 is much better than a Bethesda game.

All in all, I'm going to say that Borderlands 2 is a better game than Fallout 3 and on par with Skyrim.

    Borderlands 2 > F3 > Borderlands

Gearbox did a really good job with this game. The PC options are the most expansive I have seen on a PC game in a LONG time, everything is there for the PC gamers to tweak. And, what really makes this game incredible is that the Co-op is NOT JUST TACKED ON AT THE END.

Co-op is ingrained in the very core of this game, if you aren't playing co-op you are doing it wrong. Very few games actually take the time to develop the game around the Co-op experience and instead just offer a really lousy multiplayer option just hit to check box on the back of the box. Borderlands 2 has some of the best Co-op I've ever played, maybe the best.

It is just a great, fun game to play. If you did not like Borderlands I strongly urge you to play this game Co-op. I think you'll be surprised, I was.

    Great Game!

Aside from that, I can see some significant improvements in the story and graphics. The story in the first Borderlands was pretty much non-existent. Borderlands 2 changes this as a solid story is put in place in addition to some character development. In terms of visuals, Borderlands 2 maintains the original's art style while making improvements on textures, graphics options and such. The inclusion of PhysX is also really nice if your PC can handle it. Though even with all these niceties, there are some flaws. PLOT: (no spoilers)
The characters have quite a bit of story and with the including of the old 4 vault hunters was something that really made me squeal a bit. The main villain is very hated, and actually gives me a hard and strong reason to hate him, ESPECIALLY near the end (which I won't spoil). The main villain also is given TONS of back story and really drives the plot forward so by the end you'll want to mash his face in so hard and rip the grin off his face. He also likes to point out that he is the good guy and sometimes makes me think about if I'm actually the good guy. Although if you haven't played the first one you won't get the full experience.

    GUNS:
They control very much like the last game, with more special guns and with a bit more comfort to them. Although I feel like they could have added more balanced guns and made them better and better more often, as I'm getting bad guns who either couldn't hit Moxxi's vagina from 2 feet or couldn't strike through a pair of jeans. They did however make gun companies more distinct with the throwing exploding guns or the stabilizers. They did also add much more guns but at the cost of having to constantly check guns and compare them to yours, bringing me to the next topic.

    USER INTERFACE:
My god did they screw up on this. The fact that i have trouble scrolling down to view a gun I just picked up so I can compare just enrages me. You have no idea how many times you will have to have to exit the UI then try to do it again, only fail. It looks charming and all but the inventory tab just ruins the entire experience. The other tabs work fine though but you'll spend most of your time in the inventory so they really messed up.

    CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION:
I really think they improved on this. The addition of more character colors and the jumping onto the glorious golden bandwagon of hats in gaming really made me happy. They added tons of skins so that you will be actually having quite a bit of decisions and the fact that they drop now adds a bit of excitement when a skin drops. The hats also add quite a bit of flavor to the game, so that every character is different, they also added a hat for the people who played the first game, which was a nice touch. There are also quite a bit of vehicle skins, which brings me to the vehicles.

    VEHICLES:
They control horribly and they should have been improved upon. The addition of Bandit Technicals doesn't make up for this flaw and I wished they would've improved the vehicles.

    CHARACTERS:
They are actually very good, with the better voice acting and more humor. Their backstory is still a bit shallow but other then that they were very well made.

    REPLAYABILITY:
Despite what other people say I'm actually quite neutral on this topic. Once you played all 4 characters the game loses most of it's story and it gets quite repetitive. Although the badass tokens manage to encourage me to play it a lot more then without it.

    OVERALL:
The game is very good and I recommend it, even though it's very similar to the first it managed to reel me in to playing it for a good 80 hours. Although it missed a lot of potential and the fact the UI sucked balls made me give it an 8/10. I think if you didn't hate nor like the last one you should give this a try, you might end up really liking it like me!

The single-player isn't balanced at all. With no help or ways to revive yourself (other than one way that's quite annoying), you become quickly overpowered. There also isn't a difficulty setting, so no cheats if you get stuck somewhere and can't get out.

Multiplayer is very rewarding, as each classes' special abilities can create combos that have devastating results. My biggest gripes comes from the gearbox keys and end-game "content" the keys are so hard to come-by (and you only acquire them at a rate of 1 per account), that you feel like you're forced to wait until level 50 to use them, and when you do, the random loot system seems to give you crap, such as grenade mods, or class mods for a class you don't play. the DLC is fun, but the cost per expansion makes the dollar value only worth it if you bought that season pass special. Bad - Lots of texture and physics problems. Within the first two hours I had to quit to the menu due to getting stuck in a wall. Can see/shoot enemies through walls - and they can sometimes do the same to you. Some aspects might make sense on a console, but are cumbersome on a PC. For example the in-game menu system (skill points, inventory) is still clunky with a mouse. Best to just use arrow keys and Enter/Esc. You can tell the game was designed to be played on a 50" screen, and they just shrunk everything down when viewed on a 22" screen. Item tool tips are needlessly large and take up too much screen real estate.

Back to the good - weapon customization is better this time around. Real difference between weapon manufactures. Shields and class mods can have negative attributes, which is interesting. Completing achievements gives you "bad ass ranking" which can be used to give single digit percentage gains to various things like weapon damage, reload speed, grenade dmg, etc - that apply to all characters. Bought this on a Steam sale for like $22. Glad I didn't pay more than that. Debating buying any of the DLCs due to texture/physics issues above.

Entertaining, Hilarious, Action Packed and.....HOLY GUNS GALORE!!! (FYI- I am rating the Vanilla game, not the DLC)

I played this game for about 55 hours. That includes one play through and beating about 95% of all side missions (included in the vanilla game, no DLC). I can tell you this, that was the quickest and most fun, 55 hours I've spent in a shooter in a long time. They say time flies when your having fun, and I say...time flies when you shoot and loot...

Lets start with...the guns...holy crap is there an insane amount of weapons in this game. Chances of you finding the same gun twice are slim to none. Every gun has its own unique stats with its own unique look (plus some weapons have elemental damage to). Come for the fun, stay for the guns ;)

This game is a genius mash of a fast paced shooter with the loot mechanics of a top notch RPG. Mix in a hilarious script, likeable characters and an RPG style levelling system and you have a "AAA" game on your hands. This a prime example of how to mix genres together. If you like shooters, play it. If you like action RPG's, play it. If you like both, your in for a real treat.

The Characters are also what made this game very entertaining. You just don't know what they are going to say or do next. The stories main antagonist, Jack, is a guy you love to hate. I honestly have not had this many laughs in a video game since Conkers Bad Fur Day. Another big plus? 4 player COOP! Although, on the PC version it can be a little buggy and you may get the occasional disconnect, it's so much more fun with your friends and a very welcome feature in any game.

My only gripes with the game are the lack of shared loot or reserved loot. Its kind of a free for all when playing COOP (you do get way better loot playing coop). If your playing with friends you guys can verbally figure out who gets what but when your playing with strangers, In my experiences anyway, it's a free for all. You could be wiping out the entire town of Lynchwood by yourself, then some random guy joins you, shoots two guys and takes the ultra rare weapon that dropped from the last guy. Not a huge deal but that could of been easily addressed. You can trade with other players but more often then not, they are going to keep any rare weapons they find.

The other gripe? The lack of side missions. Now some people would say 55 hours is a decent amount of time spent playing a game (my friend beat it in 30). Well..I figure for every hour spent playing I should get 1 dollar's worth (1 dollar=1 hour). This game could of used more side quests to add a bit more value. You can play through a second time on a harder difficulty with better loot. It's called Vault Hunter mode, and its literally the same game over again. Nothing changes other then better loot (which is not a bad thing, just tacked on).

If I was to suggest ideas to help the next Borderlands game dominate even more...I think there should be a pvp multiplayer mode (with match making of course). Not the duelling system they have now, but a 4v4 or 6v6 kind of thing. That would be lots of fun. With a chance for the winner to get rare loot. I think they should include more vehicles and more open levels. Also (last thing I promise), more character creation options. There's a serious lack of character diversity in this game. Bottom Line- Do not skip this game if you enjoy shooters. Do not skip if you enjoy action RPG's. Definitely do not skip if you enjoy both. IMO, grab this game on a sale. At full price I was expecting a little more content.

Not sure why this game gets so much buzz and hype it makes me realize just how much people must like mindless FPS shooters (but then, I already knew this long ago, from the popularity of games like Unreal Tournament)

Not sure why this game gets so much buzz and hype it makes me realize just how much people must like mindless FPS shooters (but then, I already knew this long ago, from the popularity of games like Unreal Tournament)

The fact of the matter is that this game has some great production quality (graphics, sound, etc)... but it's lacking where the game really counts: FUN factor, and a sense of accomplishment.

The graphics are a nice twist, and go with the whimsical, dark-carnivalesque post apocalyptic theme. The vibrant colors and intricate props can get a little cluttered and overkill at times, making it hard to really focus on anything (or to see enemies)... but that's a minor annoyance, and it's still a nice feel.

The audio is excellent, with some very fine voice talent work and great delivery of lines and jokes. The humor and "feel" of the game is what pushes it up to a 5.

However, there are major flaws which make this game just... not as fun as it should be:

They call this an FPS/RPG. It's really not. I would call a game like Fallout 3 an RPG with a slight hint of FPS (not done very well); Borderlands is an FPS with a slight hint of RPG (not done very well).

And it's a no-brainer run-and-gun, at that. That's my biggest problem with it. There's not really any sense of tactics or strategy involved. It's simply "get the most powerful gun you can, have good aim, make sure your ammo is stocked, and blast away... run around a little bit to find other cover... get in a vehicle and then you are basically invincible... etc.

The feel of it is almost identical to Dead Island another hack-and-slash, run-and-gun smashfest, but at least in that you are dealing with zombies so it makes sense. The idea of an "open world" with characters to talk to, but not really any puzzles to solve, just quests the characters give you to "go to a destination" and then "kill X" or "retrieve Y." However, I found the level design and variety in Dead Island much better-done than Borderlands 2.

The level design, tactics, and resource management are what have made games like Half-Life so great. Borderlands 2 is seriously lacking in this department. You will essentially never run out of weapons or ammo everywhere you look, there are piles of goods lying around. This makes it fairly easy to avoid dying (especially when you throw in the last-ditch effort you can give after being downed), and even if you do die, there's not much of a problem, as you respawn somewhere you recently passed no real penalty or problem.

I haven't played in co-op mode, which I assume plays something like Dead Island (but worse)

In short, what does it tell you that I am spending my time writing this review right now instead of playing the game?? (At least I was smart enough to wait for it to go on sale, and got it for $10. At that price, I don't feel bad... it's given me some enjoyment, it's just getting tedious and repetitive after a few short hours, which was never the case with games like Half-Life 2 or Fallout 3...)

After playing the Borderlands I was eagerly awaiting for the sequel to come out. Once it did, my expectations for it were correct. It's a great game with an amusing storyline. It doesen't take itself very seriously and it works in its favour. The only problem I had with it was that there weren't enough different "wacky" weapons (most of them were simmiliar).

I played and loved the first Borderlands - the music was good, the characters, setting and story were outrageous, and the negatives - crap animations for NPCs that actually had mouths, poorly set mobs that materialized inside the landscape, GameSpy multiplayer and that annoying memory leak that made it unplayable after about 3 hours - could be forgiven considering the story and gameplay.I played and loved the first Borderlands - the music was good, the characters, setting and story were outrageous, and the negatives - crap animations for NPCs that actually had mouths, poorly set mobs that materialized inside the landscape, GameSpy multiplayer and that annoying memory leak that made it unplayable after about 3 hours - could be forgiven considering the story and gameplay.

With that said, I had my reservations about Borderlands 2, but I got it anyway - and I must say, I'm disappointed. There are some good ideas in there - badass tokens are a cool concept - and some of the plot development and writing are pretty good. But the devil is in the details, and that's where this sequel falls short.

The classes you choose are a rehash of the original 4 classes, with class techniques that are meh, at best. The worst thing for me is the voice acting overall - the class voices have no 'oomph' compared to the first game, and the Angel AI in particular was disappointing since she is no longer enigmatic in the slightest.

A good idea for a sequel with some improvements over the original, which nonetheless fails to live up to the potential of the premise.

They put quite a bit of work into adapting the game for PCs, which I very much appreciate with all the bad console ports around these days. I shouldn't even need to point this out, but it's really something special nowadays... I also applaud the developers for not using extra copy protection besides Steam, which is acceptable in my book. The graphics style and voice acting work really well. The game is advertised as having a bazillion weapons and while that's true, few of these bazillion weapons are actually fun to use. First of all, the weapon design is generally too bulky and also doesn't make sense, even for a computer game. All of the weapons have some annoying weakness. One manufacturer's weapons can only shoot fire, others explode when reloaded, others are very unaccurate when you start shooting... there are no guns that are plain and simply fun to use and that's obviously bad for a shooter. I also wish they'd taken a more realistic approach when designing the weapons, because they are over the top, even for a steam punk scenario. Also, the weapon sway is too much and it's hard to shoot precisely. The main villain is a little too simple-minded, which takes any element of surprise out of the story. Two more annoying things are the vehicle controls (you always drive where you look, no way to rotate the cam while driving) and the "toggle sights" option, actually intended to make things easier. It goes back to using the weapon sights after reloading, but at that point the situation has often changed, because enemies are running towards you, so that you'd rather fire from the hip. The worst thing though, is the multiplayer. To make it short: It's impossible to play online without running into cheaters, which makes for a terrible multiplayer experience. Some people cheat subtly by generating lots of golden keys or hacking the game data to always win at the slot machine, other games are totally hacked (infinite ammo, changed physics... the whole show). I unknowingly joined a cheater's game and now my money is at 99,999,999, I got a ton of golden keys and about 50 badass points. Totally takes any feeling of legit achievement away. P2P is a bad idea for multiplayer and they should offer a game mode where characters are stored online to prevent tampering with the data, especially because the saves are only 20-30kB. Expand

I personally think it's from bribing their players with their special shift codes for golden keys and whatnot. Anyhow, the game, again, is good, but it's not the best. The majority of the main characters, specifically the old vault hunters, lack character and isn't even saved by the better performances by Handsome Jack and CL4PTP. The reason why I've given this game a 7 is because it's chock-full of half-assed ideas. For example, there're too many types of currency, all of which are essentially worthless. Money SHOULD be the most mainstream and valued, but in the end you'll learn after awhile that its only real use is to buy ammo. Eridian is a rarer currency of which you can hold only 99 at any time and is used at the Black Market where you buy ammo/grenade pool upgrades as well as inventory space and vault space of which there is a limit meaning this currency becomes useless as well as its only other use is to enter raid boss areas to fight raid bosses. Seraph Crystals are a "hard-to-get" currency which can only be earned by killing raid bosses from the DLCs and can be used at seraph vendors, which look almost precisely like the black market and where you can buy allegedly ultra rare weapons that are weaker than the rarest weapon type in the normal game... uh... why didn't they just use a new black market system? Finally are torgue tokens, only usable in the 2nd DLC to buy weapons from specific torgue weapon machines wherein the item-of-the-day is always a legendary torgue weapon... these too become useless after you've collected one of each legendary torgue weapon or when you learn the legendary torgue weapons are the worst of the legendary weapons. What other half-baked ideas plague this game you ask? Well the skill trees for the characters are somewhat strange as there are some melee enhancing skill and the assassin character, Zer0, even has a skill tree dedicated to melee... you know... in a FPS game where there are NO melee weapons. Did I also mention that the programmers have also programmed this game so poorly that it's rather hard to patch it? Oh and that they meant this game to be kind of like an MMORPG... except you can only have 4 players at most at time? And that the game is rampant with exploits and easy ways to cheat, but while the programmers know, they only care enough to nerf a weapon and a shield pair that were allegedly overpowered? See the programmers have NO clue what they want this game to be and their priorities must be straightened out. There are tons of references and easter eggs in this game, awesome, but not when you have 4 types of currency that have no use or a whole skill tree that makes no sense and makes the player who uses said skill tree practically useless. While the ideas do have potential to be beyond great if fully realized, the programmers clearly are too busy being fanboys of other games, comics, and tv shows to work on their own original ideas. While the head developer claimed borderlands to be a limitless world where things didn't need to make sense, I find it funny that the only patch they really came out was to NERF something. Their DLCs are half-baked as well and the latter ones become less enjoyable than the prior, which i find rather sad. While this game has the potential to be very well one of the best and unique games out there, it falls short, by a lot due to thew laziness of its programmers and developers. It's sad too because there're so many good examples out there of simple game systems like currency that they failed to follow. Expand

-The gunplay is fun and varied at all engagement distances, from sniping to closer quarters combat. The variation in potential play style is solid.
-The writing and story are funny, and well-done. The missions rarely feel dull or disinteresting.
-Co-op multiplayer is great. If there are two of you, and you want to play this game together, get it. If there are 4 players, it's even better.

    Bad
-Re-playability is lacking. Once you finish the main storyline, the new game modes are just repeats of the same content, but harder.
-Sorting through junk for the first 10-15 levels of the game is pretty frustrating. This gets better as the game goes on, but it's still tedious.

I'd recommend this game to anybody looking for a good co-op shooter experience, for a solid 30-40 hours of entertainment more if you plan on replaying the game with different characters.

Thoroughly enjoy the sequel to Borderlands 1. The game was once again well thought through with a good and in some ways "quirky" storyline. The graphics were much better, still maintaining that style that they had adopted in the first game. The guns look better along with character models.

The only downside to the game is a lot of it looks the same, as much as I loved the game and

I would definately advise borderlands 2. While initially put off by what others said about boring gameplay, I got on its wavelength pretty fast and really enjoyed. The quirky characters are fun too, with some excellent lines. While the campaign is boring to begin with it picks up later in the game. Stick with it, it's worth it.

At 9.4/10 this is the highest rating I gave a game yet.

Starting with what lost that half-point and prevented my first ever 10/10. The vending machines - Marcus Munitions: there was the same lines of chat repeated over and over. Having Marcus dialogue talking of when you're next for murder was not funny. Murder is not funny. Handsome Jack said some really disgusting stuff. It was

Handsome Jack said some really disgusting stuff. It was meant to set us up to know who we were dealing with, and reminders during the game were necessary. It was too much for me though.

Other than this the game rocked. Rocked! Fun by the trainload and lots and lots of badasses to shoot. Everyone mentions the graphics and they are brilliant. Using the cartoon style gave the artist(s) more artistic licence to produce stuff that might have looked out of place in another engine. Also the artistry was of the highest quality so sets looked excellent.

It is another inventory full again, run to a shop game. Choosing which weapon to use was quite easy though so nothing really slows it down. From the start this game is beautifully intense and a few minutes into the game the action starts. It flows from then on at a fast pace as character upgrades and new weapons keep it flying. Shooting causes all kinds of things to happen. Numbers of damage fly off the enemy but not in any annoying way. Explosions cause rubble to dissipate everywhere. Good modern graphics cards that run good PhysX make this great. It showcases your PC perfectly.

I loved Borderlands 2 GOTY, and I wasn't sure I would even like it. It was my first Bordelands game, but I have since purchased Borderlands GOTY.

UI is very poorly designed. Simply things such as inventory control is archaic and frustrating. Character movement such as crouching is hard to control. The environment, even though creative, is very repetitive and becomes boring soon. There is a good selection of guns, but most of them are similarly ineffective and it is hard to judge the power of the weapon just by quickly looking at it, you have to read all the stats that are presented in a confusing way.
As many report, the game is funny. But again, this becomes annoying soon. You are in the middle of a battle nearly death while your friendly AI, instead of helping, tells you jokes all the time.

This game is trying hard to be fun and original. It fails in both, it is frustrating and difficult instead.

The RPG elements are also great: you gain experience and levels, find items and you can complete quests in large open worlds in the order that you like. Enemies also respawn so you can gain experience by farming in the same area. You can also find money and loot to spend at gun and ammo machines, a mechanic that very much reminds me of Bioshock. Aside from the successful integration of two genres, the game's presentation is excellent. The colour style is great and the whole cartoonly look really creates a vibrant world full of attitude. The voice acting is strong with a rich dialogue and a great sense of humour. The game's characters also have great personality, although I found Claptrap to be rather annoying and a weaker version of Wheatly from Portal 2. What makes the gameplay experience even better is that you can play the campaign cooperatively with friends and work together to complete quests. Expand

It’s addicting, full of creative gags and amazing battles (especially in co-op mode) and it keeps dangling that loot-carrot in front of your face. Add that crazy humor on top and you have a synonymous for the world ‘entertainment’. [November 2012]

If you're looking for something with a ponderous story full of morality and contemplation – one best savored alone – then you'll need to look elsewhere. Borderlands 2 delivers tons of lighthearted, occasionally juvenile fun with immense replayability, and is best approached with a few buddies in tow. It doesn't revolutionize the concept pioneered by its forebear, but it refines it to a razor-sharp edge and offers some of the most fun you can have in a cooperative action RPG this side of Diablo II. And if nothing else, it's got lots of Claptrap.

The moment at which my endearingly annoying robot companion Claptrap fashioned himself a Mohawk out of some animal fur I collected he earned a spot on my all-time favorite robot list.
