Okey look, i didn't like the first game. It was way to repetitive and just boring. Slow intro and for me it was a bad experience. Even COOP, was boring. Now..Borderlands 2 also starts with a incredible boring intro, not as bad as the first but it was still bad. After you've gotten like 2/3 of the games story it starts to get interesting, but its never an engaging ride. I don't feel a connection to any of the characters at all. But then again i shouldn't take the game seriously. The humor is ok, its not hilarious. (Just smiles)
The gameplay isn't that fun to play, takes the average FPS shooter gameplay add some boring enemy's and there you have Borderlands 2 main structure.

    The Good:
    - Lead cast has a great voice actors
    - Great music
    - They keep the same visual design

    The Bad:
    - The minor cast has a pretty bad voice act..
    - They have a LOT of Low-Res textures
    - Boring enemy
    - Not engaging
    - The ending
    - Its boring to play coop.

I know a lot of people might disagree, but this is my honest opinion. And i didn't have any fun with the game just as the last game.

Short and sweet: No improvements over Borderlands 1 (same unreal rendering engine, no dx-11 support), a blatant console port. This should have been a DLC for the original Borderlands game, and not a standalone.

Can’t remember why I bought this game. Same tedious gameplay from the first game except the developers make you feel profoundly ineffectual. The gun goes bang but nothing seems to change except your ammo counter. 0/10 for some tedium.

I'm about 20 hours in so far, and I must say I enjoy this game more than should be possible. I see a lot of people complaining about the game play being exactly the same and the graphics being crap. Here are some answers for you guys. If it had changed too much, people would be pissed that it's not the same thing, so this feels perfect to me. Two, the graphics are supposed to look like this. It's cel shaded, it's not going to look like you're playing a movie like most modern gamers have become accustomed to. It has its own type of art that really works for the game. The characters are similar (with the exception of Salvador) to the other four because it creates a sense of familiarity that people who played the first game will identify with. All in all, it's an amazing game. Expand

I hate the skills in the game, they're worthless. The best thing about the whole itemisation and rpg side to the game would be the awesome points which really aren't that awesome, they're incredibly conservative. You play the game for 100hrs and you achieve maybe 10% bonus to some stats. : Lel, but its still better than a kick in the shins.

Anyhow, with friends playing and a bit of gun-ho attitude you can actually get some action out of this game, pity all the rewards suck. I so strongly recommend the use of a program called Gibbed, boost you character up with some neat-o crapola and blast away. Not bad, you can actually enjoy yourself, with some friends.

I could go on, but I think for a game that's given me at least 100hrs of fun I think its finally paid itself off and so it deserves a 6 instead of a 1. :D

Gameplay very similar to the first with some slight evolution in terms of expansion of weapon variety, character classes and grenade mods. The aesthetics of the game are really nice and it runs well but the best thing about this game which absolutely trumps the first is the story. I really liked it and quirky voice acting which was superbly written ties it all together.

Because it is wonderfully imaginative from start to finish, every location is a work of art, and the quests are consistently high quality. Its unique graphic style, tongue-and-cheek story, insanely fun loot-shooting and four-player co-op made it a long-lasting and unforgettable experience. However, Borderlands was not without its flaws, and after a wait of three years, Gearbox has finally given us something the long-awaited successor, Borderlands 2.

Borderlands 2 is everything a sequel should be. It maintains the core formula that made the first game so great, improves upon it in almost every way and fixes the flaws that troubled its predecessor. The "Role-playing shooter" label that Borderlands has been given accurately describes what the game is about. It has all the makings of a fun first person shooter; lots of guns, a variety of enemies to face and robust shooting mechanics. But it's also got the elements that make role-playing games so addictive. On top of being a perfectly competent shooter, Borderlands 2 incorporates RPG elements such as skill trees, inventories, and most importantly, looting. It's insanely rewarding to clear out an area, open a weapons chest and find that perfect gun you were looking for, then upgrade your skills to match your new playing style.

Of the characters in Borderlands 1, only the Siren returns, this time in the form of Maya. The other three are completely new; Axton, a Commando, who has the characteristics of the soldier from the first game; Salvador the Gunzerker, a completely new character who can dual wield any two weapons as his special ability; and Zer0, an assassin with a badass sword who can turn invisible take out the enemy silently. These four make up for an interesting cast, and varied in the way in which they play. If you're planning on playing Borderlands 2 co-op with four players, it'd make for great diversity if each picked a different character. The contrast in playing styles, weapons used and skills invested in means that you're in for a really enjoyable experience if you work together with your friends. However, note that while Borderlands 2 supports up to four player co-op Online, it only supports two players playing split-screen locally.

The graphic style is identical to that of the original game, and you won't notice any major improvements in the texture quality. But it's the little things that make Borderlands 2 feel like a better game than what the first was. The game runs much more smoothly, there's less texture pop-ins (though still some), each gun has its own unique reload animation, chests open more extravagantly, and most importantly, the environments really come alive. In the original game, you spent the majority of the game in a barren desert or wasteland, only switching to a tundra-type environment towards the end of the game. In Borderlands 2, you're given a much wider variety of environments to explore, all of which are more vibrant and prettier to look at than the ones in the first game.

You'll likely find the game-play similar too, but in a fresh, upgraded way that reminds you of the first game without feeling like the same thing. You can wield up to four guns (out of 87 bazillion), and many more in your inventory, though by the end of the game you'll likely have switched your favourite weapon many a time for a better one you've found. The lack of a weapon proficiency system means that you can't take one low-level gun and go through the whole game with it using it and upgrading its stats, which I find disappointing, but it's a subtle flaw that's easy to overlook when the game is this much fun. All the guns feel unique, look unique and sound unique. Some have their own special effects, my favourite of which is an assault rifle with exploding rounds. The gunplay feels very fast-paced and eventful, and each character can use their special skill at any time if it has cooled down. These are designed to offer you an edge over the competition, although if truth be told, so long as you keep switching weapons for better ones and generally get better, the game shouldn't prove much of a challenge.

All the improvements that Gearbox had made to Borderlands with its Downloadable Content have seemingly been implemented in Borderlands 2 from the start. The story is actually enjoyable, there are tons of guns, more customization and new vehicles. In every way, this feels like a better game than Borderlands. From the mini-map to the much more accessible and pretty user interface, to the characters, to the story, to the gunplay and environments, Borderlands 2 is an improvement over what was already a fantastic game, and that is why you should buy it.

The graphics are good and Physx, although gimmicky, is amazing to look at in co-op. The guns are all revamped and the environments and enemies are more diverse. It all blends really well together. The story is a bit cliche, although there are plenty of intense moments, made all the more fun with multiple players in a game.
I'd like to go into more detail with the flaws, however. While the guns are generally more fun to use, I've got a problem with two particular weapon groups: assault rifles and revolvers. There seems to be a lack of accurate assault rifles, since Hyperion doesn't seem to make them anymore. There are really powerful ones by Jakobs, and some fire grenades, but those aren't automatic. And then you've got pistols which are much more satisfying to use, but revolvers are just Jakobs, Jakobs, Jakobs, and many of them lack proper laser sights, which were vital in Borderlands 1.
There are some scaling issues, i.e. level scaling and the way the level to HP ratio scales. This game is harder, but much of the difficulty derives from the fact that enemies of the same level or just one level above can annihilate you even if don't suck, and even in a one-on-one firefight: the problem here is, why should I lose on a one-on-one firefight, even if I'm a level or so lower? It doesn't make sense. If enemies dealt a little less damage and had just a little less HP, this problem would be fixed. About the level to HP ratio, well, you'll start noticing large gaps in the HP increments as you gain levels (more specifically, from Lv 25 onward). This isn't exactly a problem at first sight - not until you realize that enemies scale in much the same way, and what that means is that the awesome gun you found at Lv 26 that you do not want to let go of may be rendered almost useless by Lv 30. This is unlike the first game, where an Anarchy could easily last you at least 15 levels until you get a new one. While this does encourage to search for better guns, it can prove to be a nuisance.
My last complaint is only minor, but I find some of the mildly immature humour irritating at times. But this is where the flaws end. Gearbox has done it right this time, in my opinion, so I most certainly recommend this game.

NOTE: some games take a few weeks or months just to get their games working on players' machines. Unlike the broken co-op element back in Borderlands (I remember resetting my router ten millions times while annoying my roommates), BL2 has got this right from the start - no bugs, no major user complaints and has a solid gaming experience (for players to consume in). Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the humor in this game is unprecedentedly good. It's like I'm watching Seinfeld while simultaneously participating in the fun. As a comparison, instead of nerfing characters and pissing off avid players (I'm talking about you Blizzard and D3), GearBox's goal is to *entertain* all of us. All the guns in BL2 have been reworked to the point that I wouldn't get bored at "farming", if any at all. All the quests are unique and side missions aren't as boring as before. With the upcoming promise of new classes and quests, there is more to come, so just shut up and take my money. Expand

The actual gameplay hasn't changed at all, it's the same "collect this" or "kill him" preceded by running or driving halfway across the entire planet and into some base where people are waiting to kill you. Maybe you'll find a shiny new gun on the way.

Online play has been improved massively by Gearbox choosing to use Steam matchmaking instead of the gamespy system used in Borderlands 1. (Main reason my review is 7 rather than a 6)

The lower scored reviews are not entirely wrong, however the game is best played with friends or in co-op - but if you want more Borderlands (I have 30 hours in total from 1 playthrough with some sidequests done) then you will like the sequel.

I think Zero's skill is fairly useless you might agree or disagree but I shouldn't have to be level 50 to benefit from it. It's a decent game but if you expect it to be better or different from the first you'll be sorely disappointed if you buy it. Stunning graphics but glitchy quests and lack of patches so far can be bothersome. If you enjoyed Borderlands 1 you will enjoy this game. Plenty of loot to find if that tickles your fancy. You're able to replay it after you beat it the first time on a harder setting which is fine to cap off to 50 but I doubt it will change your gaming experience at all. Easter eggs were a plus as well. Fair game overall, too much repetition for my taste but the co-op is the only way to play as far as i'm concerned. Very few games' anticipated release affect me and make me want to pre-order. Even Skyrim (a game I had been drooling over since it was announced) wasn't quite enough to entice me to pre-order it - I waited for a couple of months till I got a new computer and it went on sale. However , this time, you have a tangible objective and an evil bastard to gun down, as compared to rather mindless treasure hunting in the first game. Along your side will be a whole new cast of Vault Hunters, along with their new skills, and even more guns to shoot with. Maintaining the core gameplay mechanics of its predecessor and strongly holding on to traditional RPG elements, it's a pretty massive and welcome sequel . The game felt as fresh as eating Sashimi in a roadside restaurant in Japan - weird analogy, but you get what it feels like, right? right? The graphic style stays, albeit being much more polished and flexible. Want no AA ? No problem, all catered for in the PC VERSION [ not a port, mind you ] of this game. Environments feel more varied and organised as compared to vast wastelands with fixed mob spawns [ cough, looking at you spiderants and the leech-looking thingies from the original ]. But hey, that's what happens after you leave Pandora at the hands of who might be the most sarcastic and eclectic tyrant ever. While I did say gameplay remained largely the same, there were minor tweaks in the system which I felt was rather significant. The game's difficulty has been cranked up. Remember how you can still manage a group of equal-levelled bandits in the original and come out with a bruise ? In this game you'll probably get pinned down in a matter of seconds ( this is very true in later playthroughs ). Personally I rarely ever had problems with the encounters, but some parts of the game are just hyperbolic in difficulty and thus forcing you into [ sniping ] a certain approach. But for that matter, co-op play is there for you, so no real complaints over there. You will use your action skill a lot more and find that loot, more often than not, will disappoint you. Assault Rifles have been the biggest let down in this game, at the cost of other weapons being noticeably a lot more powerful. Yes, looking at you shotguns and rocket launchers. There are a 'bazzillion guns' -- pfft yeah, more like 8 manufacturers with 4 different gun types for each weapon type and RNG-spawned statistics + a template to go with it. Nevertheless, It's really RPG-Like and it should stay that way, albeit probably at the cost of a few more broken windows and controllers. Tee Hee.

Multitudes of other small tweaks such as A NEW ELEMENT and the ever-expanding variety of grenade mods, class mods and shields { exploding shields ! ] are just creative and definitely diversifies a player's approach to the game. The game's writing... can be categorized into a hit or a miss. Anything in between just feels flat. Some characters outright just try to make you laugh by exaggerating their lingo and speaking in a certain manner that felt so damn cheesy when I was playing the game. I can't really put my finger on it, so it's either hilarious or just a failed attempt at comedy. Definitely a lot livelier than the first one [ plus Claptrap is actually FUNNY this time round ], but with that amount of spirit comes a lot of energy that was misplaced. Sorry, Gearbox, So there you go. The game's main antagonist, Handsome Jack is an exception though -- you'll have to figure out why yourself. With Jasper Kyd composing the soundtrack, we obviously have a strong contender for the Game of The Year.

I hate cheesiness and this game just emanates a whole lot of it- so, as a whole experience, Borderlands 2 is a solid 8.
If I didn't give a **** about the cheesiness and overlook the silly premise of this whole contemporary culture influences thing going on in the game, let's just say this 70-hour experience deserves a 9.

    Final Verdict: 8.5

Borderlands 2's campaign is incredibly witty and can get almost anybody laughing, the characters are abundantly quirky and just the sort this sort of game needs, but the game to me lacked replayability due to a number of factors including what seemed like a lack of super-cool rare eridium weapons that the original had, requiring no ammunition, high firepower and amazing style, though i know eridium weapons were included they still felt like the other bazillion weapons in the game. Another factor that seemed to have been attempted to be overdone and in that sense, overlooked, was customisation; each character had character trees suited to that characters style but it did not feel like they lived up to the borderlands style of sheer badassery but rather felt mellow in comparison to the original, i personally struggled to find a reason why i would spend time building my character 'Zero' from a single character tree when the finale' abilities didn't seem worth the wait. I also desperately missed the weapon proficiencies from the original borderlands because they meant that when i got bored of using the same weapons that were suited to my character i could switch it up and still feel like i was gaining something; this is a tragic miss due to the mechromancer whose ability work on status effects rather than weapon damage so she really gains little benefit from a highpowered gun. Overall i give borderlands 2 a 7 because even with the lacking of some of borderlands 1's fun features it still kept me entertained throughout the campaign and the new addition of badass ranks was ingenious, but i dont feel it calls to me for a replay. A great game that 100% embraces what it is and does not try to be anything else. It is not a massive upgrade over the first game but more what Borderlands should have been. Had the original come out only last year there may not be enough innovation here to justify the sequel but I feel it has been long enough that I am ready for another romp around Pandora.

Had the original come out only last year there may not be enough innovation here to justify the sequel but I feel it has been long enough that I am ready for another romp around Pandora.
    .
The game is big, if you do the majority of the side quests you are looking at roughly 55 hours to make it through the story and you will be roughly level 35 (level cap is 50). The environments are not as varied as they could be but there are far more of them then where in the first game, yet they all fell like part of Pandora. There seems to be roughly double the number of enemy types and the game does a good job at changing things up. Just when i am getting tired of a certain enemy I end up going up against something different. The weapons are still mostly randomly generated, there does seem to be a greater variety, it could be better but there is almost always something new to try.
    .
Where the game vastly improved was the story. They did a great job with Handsome Jack and setting him up as the primary protagonist. Along the way you will meet and kill many other eccentric characters but the entire game you are moving towards the final confrontation with Jack. I found the writing for the most part to be very witty, a few childish jokes but for the most part double entendras that gave me a chuckle if not laugh out loud. The classes are a bit more varied then they were in the first game, it also feels more like you are picking a character instead of a class. Each character has a back story that gets somewhat explored during the game, they also each have their own personality and a unique play mechanic.
    .
All in all a great game with lots of gameplay, a quality story, lots of fun guns, a passable leveling system. It looks good, runs smoothly, excellent voice work and a unique art style. We dont need a sequel next year but by 2014 maybe 2015 I will be ready for a another sequel.

Decent game, worth it if it becomes a little cheaper. I enjoy the multiplayer but the game itself is just a little quirky. The missions are cool but you can easily go too far in this game and just die repeatedly.

Good! The humour is even better then last time. The difficulty if you're playing on single player is ridiculous though. Deaths can often result from simply running out of ammo during boss battles (even though for most of the game there is more ammo then you can carry). Can't help but think that this is another game company saying "you don't want to play single player - get online". AlsoGood! The humour is even better then last time. I was enormously pleased to see that the game surpassed any and all expectations that i had come to nurse so tenderly during the pre-release period. The UI wasn't a huge improvement over the original game but everything else was a vast improvement. The game play maintained its fast paced, over the top FPS action and the controls felt nothing short of perfect. The character classes were varied and skill trees even more so. The plot was enjoyable, funny and filled with plenty of twists and events that made me quite literally exclaim my disbelief. Claptrap is now absolutely hilarious instead of infuriating and irritating. The enemies are varied and requires varied strategies to take them down. A lot of effort was put into making the game a lasting success such as changing the enemy models for your second play through. It really makes you feel like you're continuing on instead of just starting over again as so many games make you feel. Oh and how could i forget the guns. So so many guns. Borderlands advertised millions of gun combinations but it doesn't stand remotely close to the guns in the sequel. The look of awe on my friends faces as I whip out an automatic laser sniper rifle with reflective silver plating was priceless. Speaking of friends, i'd recommend playing with them. Although the game is fun on your own, you don't get nearly the same experience as you do if you play with others. Overall, if you're looking for a fun game for you and a friend, pick this up. I'm serious. You're in for hours of laughter, high paced shooty action and gawking over the sheen and polish that the developers put into this wonderful game. Expand

If you like playing first person shooters such as Call of Duty, Medal of Honor or even Counter Strike, and you’re an even bigger nerd if you like comic books and everything that has to do with comics.. You’re in for a big treat with Borderlands 2!

As for the game play, it feels the same as in any other FPS game. Playing solo is fully doable in Borderlands 2 but playing with friends is certainly more fun. There are several ways you can go, either just run in and try to trash it all although I do prefer to run in with tactics beforehand or just discuss the tactics together and see if that works. Loot-wise, when you’re alone it’s all yours. If you’re playing with friends, the loot will be shared but don’t fear! Your friend, that found the awesome Sniper Rifle, can easily trade the weapon to you only if you ask it nicely!

You can choose to play between four different characters, or you can play and level them all in the long run, but you can only play one character at once. Each of these characters, or better yet classes, have their own special powers and gun preferences. Firstly you have Axton, the Commando class which has the special power called ‘Scorpio Turret 2.0′. It simply deploys a scorpio turret that will automatically fire at enemies. Next you have Zero, the Assassin class which I’m absolutely in love with that has ‘Deception’ where you create a holographic decoy and can vanish for a few seconds. Usually this is enough to help you stay alive. The third character you can pick is Salvador, better known as the Gunzerker class. Big guy. Big guns. And that’s what his special power really does, ‘Gunzerking’ will give you a second gun so you can go nuts! The last one is Maya, the Siren class, which has ‘Phaselock’ where she will lockdown an enemy by phasing them into other dimensions. The Siren class somehow reminds me of Wizards or Mages in general, especially when you see her ability.

One down side that I have noticed in the game is that if you make a new character and go through the quests once more or do quests once more with the same character even you will know where to point your gun at. Surely, it could be just me because I store stupid memories in my head but the enemies spawn at the same places over and over again. Adding a few different spawn points could have given you slightly more diversity in the game.

As for the graphics, they combined the play style of First Person Shooters with an entire comic book style-based graphics which is refreshing and totally awesome from my point of view. As for the environments, they’re well cooked. Not only do you have the big city, there’s also the artic tundra to shiver upon or the dangerous grasslands where enemies are hiding in the least expected corners.

All in all it is a very good game, but if you are a fan of the first Borderlands and played it through and through you will find some unsettling differences,. in BL2 they put a lot of focus on the story and to tell you the truth it was kind of corny and the weapon system is inferior to bl1 because it lacks the weapon proficiency upgrading and the random attributes system always leaves one or more thing that lacks to make those perfect weapons you could find in bl1. the gameplay is a little more changeling in that I noticed you die a lot more in bl2 than bl1. But I will say the did a good job making this game because it is addictive and you do find yourself compelled to keep playing and keep improving your characters. I love the borderlands franchise and I hope there is more to come. Expand

The Borderlands universe is fraught with outrageously funny situations and characters that blend together to make a truly enjoyable story line with laughs the whole way through. Combat is really fun and I would certainly recommend a controller to get the full shoot 'em up experience. At times the combat does get repetitive and that makes the game feel drawn out and much longer than I expected it to be. That being said, it would e easy to put in a huge amount of hours into Borderlands since there are a multitude of fun, interesting side quests that flesh out the story and provide a break from moving inexorably toward the end of the game.

I think my biggest pet peeve with the game is that once you have been to an area and kill everything, the next time you go there, say for a side quest that has you backtrack, you have to kill everything again. This may not be too much of a problem if you decide to do large chunks in one sitting or complete everything in an area together but I play very on and off so it gets annoying when I'm constantly grinding through enemies I've already slain.

Overall, the second installment of the Borderlands franchise is fun, new, and has a very unique artistic style that sets it apart from the rest of the shooter RPg genre.

Score: Probably an 8.5 but I think a 9 is appropriate due to it having such a great sense of humor and adventure.

    2. The weapons are just too random in their abilities/function. Sure, there are thousands, but 95% of them sucks big time. The chance of you finding just what you want is microscopic, and then finding an upgrade... good luck. I would have preferred a modular system, like Dead Space 3.
    3. You sometimes have to fight through certain areas multiple times.
    4. Many enemies are massive bullet sponges.
    5. WASD keys aren't usable as navigation in the menus (might seem nitpicky, but come on, really? It just screams bad port).

All in all, B2 is a good game that could have been a 10 with some changes. The story is pretty good and well told, and Handsome Jack (the badguy) is hilarious.
The Mechromancer is fun to play, even if I've struggled with finding a build I'm completely satisfied with.

The first being, the cartoon-like graphics spoil it for me. Personally, I find it difficult to find certain things and after half an hour I get eye strain. If the graphics were like that of a classic 2012 shooter, then I could raise the score to eight. Now I know

Now I know this second point will sound stupid, but this is very significant to me. Your robot companion throughout the game, claptrap, is so immensely annoying that if this were a real life situation, I would have committed suicide after the numerous futile attempts to destroy that annoying little c*nt.

Apart from those two factors, the NPCs and weapons are responsive and I enjoy playing with them.

If you're looking for something with a ponderous story full of morality and contemplation – one best savored alone – then you'll need to look elsewhere. Borderlands 2 delivers tons of lighthearted, occasionally juvenile fun with immense replayability, and is best approached with a few buddies in tow. It doesn't revolutionize the concept pioneered by its forebear, but it refines it to a razor-sharp edge and offers some of the most fun you can have in a cooperative action RPG this side of Diablo II. And if nothing else, it's got lots of Claptrap.
