As fun as it is at first, playing this over time starts to wear you down and becomes quite repetitive. Unfortunately, the difficulty level does not increase, and each development of our cards, although initially sensible, ultimately comes down to the same. The leveling system for our character is limited only to increasing the pool of health or mana points, and this is a bit weak considering that the creators want to refer to the old hack'n'slash as the first version of Diablo. Besides, the choice is important only at the moment of the choice itself, because then we can add a point that we did not need for the money. Graphically it looks nice, but just like the gameplay itself - it is monotonous. Another thing that is a bit annoying is the fact that the archer can cast spells more often than any mage, just because one of the basic items she can find is an amulet that allows passive mana regeneration. You can have fun, if you are not afraid of monotony and low difficulty level, but it's better to wait for promotions, because for this price you will only be disappointed. Expand

i wanted to like it more because of the unique gameplay and art style but after about 7hrs, it has gotten pretty bland. it is a bit of a slow bland game. the long time-to-kill is a bit too long due to different enemy mechanics (vision, elemental resis, spell invuln, jumping...) and gameplay got boring when it was just hold the mouse down, jump, hold the mouse down, jump, potion... also toi wanted to like it more because of the unique gameplay and art style but after about 7hrs, it has gotten pretty bland. it is a bit of a slow bland game. the long time-to-kill is a bit too long due to different enemy mechanics (vision, elemental resis, spell invuln, jumping...) and gameplay got boring when it was just hold the mouse down, jump, hold the mouse down, jump, potion... also to maximize, i end up having to pause the game a lot to swap cards to handle different encounters which was pretty annoying. i am playing this as a side game for killing time Expand

Game is very repetitive the Cards whilst an interesting way to upgrade don't feel intuitive and nonsensical. Boss fight are Interesting and the Game mechanic is quirky and unique.

Book of Demons is hard to recommend to either casual and hardcore players. Instead of being a simpler dungeon crawling experience that newcomers could enjoy, it’s instead bland and unintuitive. You’re better off trying out already established ARPGs, while waiting for the upcoming releases of Diablo IV and Torchlight III that are looking to offer far more interesting gameplay.

Book of Demons is a fun Diablo-like game, but some of the mechanics might be a turnoff for others. Movement is locked to set paths while enemies are free to roam around and there is no equipment as cards represent spells, items, and artifacts in the game. That said, there is still quite a bit to like about Book of Demons as there is a good amount of strategy to employ if you want to survive. However, the price tag might be a bit much given the restrictions some of the mechanics place on you.

A highly addictive hack’n’slash with great art direction and many small but really good gameplay ideas. The developers wear their inspirations on their sleeve, so you can almost hear the game shout “Yes, this is Diablo! Yup, it’s Tristram! Don’t pretend you don’t remember!”. [02/2019, p.36]
