Ok listen, I've never been a Jet Set Radio fan, but I'm a SUPER fan of skating games, from thps to skater xl. And yeah, this game has a lot of character and the music is superb... but the rest is mediocre AT BEST. Mechanically the game plays itself, no balancing gauges, no complex tricks that you have to work for to connect, no bail... I get it, it's for JSR fans, and good for them if theyOk listen, I've never been a Jet Set Radio fan, but I'm a SUPER fan of skating games, from thps to skater xl. And yeah, this game has a lot of character and the music is superb... but the rest is mediocre AT BEST. Mechanically the game plays itself, no balancing gauges, no complex tricks that you have to work for to connect, no bail... I get it, it's for JSR fans, and good for them if they think this is a good sequel, but it's not a good game, the world is empty, the gameplay is shallow (like a barebones thps arcade mode), the story is meh, graphics are cool but... you know... not that good. As a non fan of JSR I can say it can be mindless fun when you have 10 minutes to waste, but if you want an actual game go somewhere else.
The crazy thing is people are asking for big companies to focus on games like this, PLEASE NO! This is as much of a game as Scorn, and I LOVED Scorn, but it's a niche game with few gameplay redeeming qualities, made for few people and not that good of a videogame.

Before the game, I first checked out the masterpiece original - "Jet Set Radio" (2000) and got stuck in it for many hours, which, to my surprise, is sold also in Steam, and for only $8, only the second part remained unavailable-exclusive to the original Xbox (except emulators).
0 doubt that it was inspired by it, this is a exact copy, except that the "Jet Set" consisted of tiny challenge
Before the game, I first checked out the masterpiece original - "Jet Set Radio" (2000) and got stuck in it for many hours, which, to my surprise, is sold also in Steam, and for only $8, only the second part remained unavailable-exclusive to the original Xbox (except emulators).
0 doubt that it was inspired by it, this is a exact copy, except that the "Jet Set" consisted of tiny challenge levels with thoughtful game design, but here we have more open locations where you can return and farm all the graffity like "Tony Hawk", well, also in battles with bosses you will be forced to beat your opponent on points by doing a combo of tricks, which is not difficult for the first time, but for someone it can become a problem at the next levels, because no one forced you to score points in the Jet Set Radio game - you just had to reach all the graffiti without dying, while there were more and more cops on the map ,and the level kind of "narrowed",
And, in general, this is a simpler and more casual version, there is an auto-grind, the faster tutorial, the mechanics are a little more responsive - 20 years later engines have become simpler, there is no difficulty in drawing graffiti now, there is new system with drawing a "key" from lines, in which it is simply impossible to make a mistake, pthe police can't catch you anymore because the locations are too big, and there is nothing funny in them, of course, in the original game there almost every skirmish with the police had a unique animation,
The world in the game is not particularly developed, the visuals are basic for the engine, very specific designs of people, huge legs - that's okay, but the angularity is clearly not for everyone,
But there is at least some story about finding yourself when you are an ordinary template robot, and about the opposition of groups, of course, as well as good black humor, at least in the beginning,
Some police robots now hook you with chains and pull you towards them - this is cool rly, no questions,
Oh, and you can change seats on foot, although it's useless, but this way you can fight better, since there is a 3-button combat system, consisting of the same buttons with which we do tricks, you can stun cops by spray, but it was also in the sequel - Jet Set Future,
The music is as basic as the visual, you get tired of it rather than relax, although I would not say that the "Jet Set" has a memorable ost, but it had its own atmosphere - that’s for sure,
By no means am I saying that the game is bad, it's done well, if you want a casual indie-medium JSR-like game and the price doesn't bite you, then take it.

There’s no doubt that some Jet Set Radio fans hungry for more will enjoy Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I’ve been waiting for this series’ return in spirit along with the rest of them, but in the end, it did little more than inspire nostalgia for the original, gorgeous though it may be.

Being hip is cool again. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk trades its graphical fidelity and pixel counts for excellent gameplay loop and incredible music - all wrapped up in a neat and true Jet Set Radio spiritual successor.

And while its camera and controls are a huge improvement over its predecessors, the odd hiccup still persists. But most of the time, with the soundtrack - a mix of laidback house, hip-hop, and funk - doing its thing in the background, and the world gradually opening up to you, it's easy to fall into a pleasant trance for long stretches.
