  • Summary: Ben There, Dan That! is a freeware comedy adventure game by Zombie Cow Studios, written by and somewhat-narcissistically starring the eponymous Dan and Ben, a couple of layabout geeks who always seem to find themselves knee-deep in high-adventure.

    I have bought "Ben There, Dan That!" & "Time Gentlemen, Please!" bundle on a Steam sale, not really expecting much. Much to my surprise bothI have bought "Ben There, Dan That!" & "Time Gentlemen, Please!" bundle on a Steam sale, not really expecting much. Much to my surprise both games happened to be LOTS of fun, especially "Time Gentlemen, Please!". This is a must-have for old-school gamers who value good story over graphics, for those who remember text adventure games and know what rubber-chickens-with-pulleys-in-the-middle are good for :)… Expand

    Two absolute bare bones point-and-click adventures. If you aren't into British humor, it is probably going to be painful to read through theTwo absolute bare bones point-and-click adventures. If you aren't into British humor, it is probably going to be painful to read through the game dialog. But if you like Benny Hill / Monty Python type humor, they are bearable. Although separate games, they really should be treated and played as one single long adventure since Time Gentlemen, Please! is an immediate sequel to the much shorter Ben There, Dan That! Combined, these two games hold overwhelming entertainment value for their wild and crazy adventures, completed by truly bizarre and humorous inventory item uses. In comparison Ben There, Dan That! is simply a prototype for the much more refined Time Gentlemen, Please!, but together they complete a highly enjoyable adventure game. They take me back to simpler times when games like Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry were king.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even though short - this is a very nice title from two dudes who love Adventures! You won't be impressed by graphics, or sound, or the speed of your mouth - but, if you are an old-school Adventure Clicker and grew up on Lucas's titles - you'll find joy in "Ben There, Dan That!". The game does not pretend to be anything but the Adventure - it lays bare all of its techniques - Ben and Dan constantly make jokes of Adventures, inventory, picking, using, etc., in such a way, that you are not lied into a game, but rather polished into it by its light-hearted humorous atmosphere. This is an English title - so be prepared for some hard kicks into American gut! :) The game is rather short, yet interesting. It could use some more sound effects for ambiance. The characters could also be more developed: it is hard to distinguish Ben from Dan (especially when Ben, whose room is a filthy breeding ground of trash, refuses to flush the toilet because it's dirty). Nonetheless - as an old clicky - this is a fun and FREE game! :)… Expand

It's too slow-paced, the puzzles aren't that interesting, and the humor is self-serving bro banter that relies on the idea that other people find these two twenty-something white guys as funny as they do themselves while constantly taking stabs at people who aren't like them. The dialogue is boring to read through (yes "read" because there are no voices and few sound effects).

    I did appreciate the part where they make fun of the US, because it's always fun to see what other countries think of us.    … Expand

I just wish this was as funny as it thinks it is... Sad really. I mean, it looks pretty awful but you can get past that if it's a good enough game.The writing is utterly paramount in a game like this and this is where it doesn't work for me. I'm British so the "don't like British humour" excuse won't work on me, I just didn't think the writing was very funny. Sorry.… Expand
