Couldn't be less interested in this game after playing it for only a week. The campaign flat out sucks. The multiplayer is glitchy, unbalanced, boring, and hella laggy. After waiting for this game to be patched for almost a month I feel like it's already lost its spark. It had potential. But failed epicly.

You'll be tearing your hair out throughout the 3 days you'll actually want to play this game through, bugs, crashes, glitches, horrible optomization, bad campaign, terrible online vehicle and weapon balance, design flaws, broken attatchments, sluggish unlocks and a of other things you'll notice along the way.

Get COD Ghosts. At least that game didn't come out half baked. Here's your cold, cold, raw pasta. Have fun. You'll be bored before you know it.

No better than BF3, which puts it far behind bf2 and bf1942. I think the franchise has pretty much ended with this one. Regurgitated, average, seen-it-all-before pap. Good to see the majority of paid reviewers have sold their souls once again.

Battlefield 4 was good at first when the UCAV and the mortar where actually usefull, but know they suck, because some 12 yr old crybabies didnt like the fact that you could get an enemy chopper down fairly easly and go on ridiculous kill streaks, the graphics are great no doubt they look next gen gameplay is more less the same but can get interesting, campaign is **** vehicles are crap

When it works, it works great, though for most people, it's not working which means when it works for you, in game half of your teammates are p'd off from crashing or being sniped from within a building, so they aren't in a good mood to work with you on any objectives. If this were working properly, it would ALMOST be as good as Battlefield 2 (I don't compare to BF3, which was made for the limited resources and attention spans of consoles and console gamers). Multiplayer on the other hand has a lot of potential but players are brutally punished by a rushed release of the game. It's been over 3 weeks since the release and a bunch of patches has been released. Unfortunatelly they only fixed a few of the problems. The biggest ones still persist:
    - optimalization issues on many different PC setups
    - game freezing
    - long map loading times (unless you have SSD)
    - poor netcode
    - random game crashes

On top of that we have poor class/vehicle/weapon balance and most of the maps are way too small. Anyone who tried playing Zavod with 64 players will know what I mean.

Battlefield 4 can become a great game... someday. Right now it needs A LOT of patching and minor fixes instead of rushing with DLCs.

Game is not worth the money yet.

First, Battlefield 4 is way better than any CoD game, that's a fact.
The big fights on 32vs32 maps are fun, dynamic, beautiful.
It's overall a good game. Though, this game has big weaknesses : -too much vehicles. It doesn't give a good idea of war combats. 10 infantry soldiers and 20 people in vehicles for each team kills the interest. You still can have fun not being in a vehicle,

-too much vehicles. It doesn't give a good idea of war combats. 10 infantry soldiers and 20 people in vehicles for each team kills the interest. You still can have fun not being in a vehicle, but you'll probably kill less, die more and it may become frustrating at times.
-the maps are not good. They are similar, not creative, not that interesting. After a few games, you've see, it all. They are also not very numerous, and if you want more, I guess you'll have to pay more.
-The levolution is... not impressive. It's just scripts that launch at a certain time of the game and it's... yeah, meh. They basically built their trailers around it, and it's bland in game.
-It's pretty much the same as BF3. I know a lot of people keep saying this, but it's true. It's the exact same thing, except two or three little things. And now that's a problem 'cause if you played a lot of BF3, no need to buy it. At all. Stay on the 3rd. For the first few hours, you'll have fun, then it will get boring very quickly and you'll regret the money you've spent.
Same thing for the people who didn't like BF3, you won't like BF4 either.
-They are selling a game $60 when it is barely playable. Crashes every 2 games, lags, freezes, bugs, ...
The game is clearly not finished. For such a price, it would be legitimate to expect a new polished game.
It's not new and not polished AT ALL.

I wanted to give EA a chance with this game after what they said. It was BF, I really thought they wanted to take care of the series, at least because it could be a mountain of money. They didn't. This game is a failure. Not a complete failure, some things are good, but still a failure.
    Totally not worth the money.

When i think about what has been done better comparing it to bf3 i can count the things on one hand.
    - the squad system and orders combined with the commander adds a little bit more tactical variation to the public games
    - the little "counts as kill" feature if you almost killed a player and he then is shot by somebody else feels good not to have your kill stolen
    - the weapon settings and customizations are more complex and versatile
    THATS IT

i wont list all of the bad things bf4 has introduced but just some major points
    - the whole design feels weaker than bf3 at least, like a bad f2p ripoff
    - vehecles and weapons also feel worse
    - maps are horrible

and to add a nice topping the game is litterally almost unplayable because of gliches, bugs and crashes.

Its pretty clear that you buy the game mostly for the multiplayer the campaign is just a short compilation of stupid cliches and patriotism so just forget it (Oh yeah you have to play it to get all the guns in the game, the last mission even 3 times).
The multiplayer is an updated version of Battlefield 3, that would be ok if it has gotten any better.
At this point in time this is (still after 1,5 months) clearly an unfinished product, every patch changes the feel of the game completely so if you got used to the gameplay its like a slap in the face every three weeks and it is impossible to stay at a certain level at skill.
The maps are not that bad but the game is clearly missing a good Infantry only map, the only thing close to that is Operation Locker but that one isnt called the "Meatgrinder" without a reason (too few routes, too linear).
Levolution looks nice but in the end its just a gimmick and doesnt require any change of tactics, in the most matches the events arent even triggered by the players.
The worst thing is the hit registration, it was not that good in BF3 because of client side hit registration, but in BF4 its beyond acceptable. At first there was the one hit kill bug then hits in the head would have been registered twice leading to your instant death. Trading kills was so common at a certain point it was simply enraging. And after the latest patch hit registration is messed up and sometimes delayed. If you know in which direction a player is moving you just have to shoot there and you will hit him even if the player model on your screen reaches this spot a short period of time later (this was tested in 2m distance) and even works through solid walls.
Hit Registration wasnt the best in all of the Battlefield titles but this is simply unacceptable.
In conclusion Battlefield 4 is simply an unfinished title with a lot of potential but the launch phase of the game has just simply ruined it, as a gamer buying a full price game we can expect a finished game (yeah it can be a little rough around the edges), but this is still in beta phase.

The multiplayer has map designs that frankly made me wonder if the map designers at DICE were replaced by mentally challenged monkeys for this specific game. The netcode has been, and continues to be, a nightmare that's been unprecedented, not to mention the incredibly crappy balance and spawns. Congratulations, DICE, for making perhaps one of the worst games of the current console generation, and easily the worst Battlefield ever produced. I don't know why people say Hardline isn't fit for the battlefield name and reputation, when it's so obviously this one. Expand

The game is riddled with players who are using cheat mods to gain a significant advantage, much like all games in the Battlefield series. Save your money and play something else, unless cheating is your thing too.

The game is plagued with bug its none stop, been playing the game since release and had to stop for a while as the game has never been fixed.

DICE releasing a small amount of patch that are only making the game more unstable. don't get me start on the Hit Detection (IT DON'T WORK)

I'm reviewing the SP portion here:
I wasn't expecting much of the game and now that it's finally available for only 20 bucks (unless you want to get the Deluxe Premium whatever edition) I checked out a Gameplay vid and was like: yea, looks nice, let's give it a shot.
Now - the first 15 minutes of the game look quite promising and atmospheric, and then it starts to get really cheap. And

Now - the first 15 minutes of the game look quite promising and atmospheric, and then it starts to get really cheap. And it only gets worse and somewhere along the line you wonder if they simply stopped the SP guys from blowing money on it because most of their money comes from MP DLCs anyway.

Besides that the story is really dull, wasn't expecting much anyway, they really didn't care this time around (compared to BF3) to setup a campaign that is satisfying.
To me it looks like they started trying to make something nice, and then their budget was cut and they came up with half-assed action sequences... and not even that - you are left to imagine that something fancy just happened because animating the destruction of a dam/ship was too expensive so they just let your character black out.

Battlefield 4 on the other hand feels like a hamsterwheel and grindfest replaced good gameplay!

This was the game that made me quit online-gaming and continuing playing only cooperatively with friends!

If you thought Battlefield was an alternative to the annoying and kiddy-riddled Call of Duty you are wrong!
Be prepared for annoying waiting-queues and sometimes totally unexplainable loading times!
    Yes:
    It looks fantastic!
    and yes:
    It sounds even better!
In fact: There is no other game that has this absolutely astonishing sound-design! But it's nothing more than a facade!
In fact it consists of an annoying and totally hollow game-mechanic!
A XP-System that deludes you into achieving something, and is obviously a cover up for the bug-riddled gameplay and hostile game-enviroment with more random deaths and unfair gameplay every round!

The servers are filled with cheaters and death-squads who overrun and deliberately hunt newcomers!

If you thought: "Just have to get better", there is no way to get really better. You just earn xp and more guns and attachments (that's the Hamsterwheel that can get you into wasting time very fast! How often did you realize: NOT PLAYING FOR FUN, BUT FOR MORE XP AND BAGDES?)

Tactical approach is often missing totally and it's "everyone for themselves!"

    Weapons are a joke!
It makes NO DIFFERENCE if you shoot with a SMG or a Heavy MG!
What should obliterate anyone coming through the hail of bullets, often doesn't do a scratch and you wonder if you even hit!
Just to make you understand: The LIGHT MG farts 20 DMG and the HEAVY makes the same amount of stink!
    Pathetic!

A game that will make you hate campers and online gamers in general!

I've not played that game a lot. I've struggling with the netcode issues the whole time. I have to say i never felt so disappointed by a game i had pre-order 4 months in advance. The biggest surprise i had came from the fact that the netcode was fixed in June. 8 months after the release of the game. You guysI've not played that game a lot. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. BF4 has been out three months and there has been some improvement although many serious issues remain after several patches from EA. The game doesn't crash nearly as often (but it still crashes). Lag and stuttering have been reduced too although not eliminated. The audio no longer suddenly disappears on certain maps. However many core problems remain, e.g. what you see and what your opponent sees not being in sync, leading to many outraged comments by players about being "shot around corners". Of course EA (and this game's developer, DICE) couldn't fix a sandwich without breaking the whole kitchen, and every patch has fixed some things while breaking others. There was a bug where players you had clearly shot still showed 100% health when they spun around and killed you. Now, they instead show 0% health, making it look as if you were just killed by a dead player (leading to much yelling and screaming in the game's text chat). There has been so much angry commentary from disappointed Battlefield players that it got the attention of the mainstream media leading to EA's stock price taking a hit. EA has also ordered DICE to suspend work on expansion packs for BF4 and get all their programmers working on fixing bugs, but there are so many bugs, and I wonder if some of them really cannot be fixed because the basic structure of the game contains hopeless flaws. EA has actually been issuing refunds to some purchasers of BF4 provided they hadn't played many hours (many of them could not play at all).

So, while BF4 has been partially repaired it is still a coin toss if you will find it an enjoyable game or an experience more irritating then entertaining. I know several people with new fire-breathing gaming computers who have just as much trouble running BF4 as those of us using less powerful machines. So be warned; while BF4 is terrific when it is working and shows huge potential, it is still a buggy and annoying product needing a lot of work. If you haven't bought it yet you are probably better off waiting awhile to see how far the repair work gets (and how much EA drops the price) because Battlefield 4 still has some serious problems.

The lowest point of the entire battlefield franchise. Battlefield 5 and Hardline were dodgy, but boy, if you want to see some truly awful game design, load up battlefield 4.

Genuinely one of the worst genuine attempts at a video game I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through, buy a better video game, it's not hard at all.

This is by far the worst battlefield ever, it's straight up a pure downgrade from the amazing game BF3 was.
Bugs are all over the place, the shooting feels awful, the AI is one of the most scuffed I've ever seen, the vehicle control is non-existing and the physics are completely broken.

Battlefield 4 could just as well be called Battlefield 3.5. The new Battlefield features are only marginal improvements over Battlefield 3, but even as such it leaves the competitors way behind. Hopefully the bugs will be squashed soon. [Nov 2013]

Even if multiplayer wasn't buggy, Battlefield 4 would still only be a barely passable installment in all respects besides the snazzy graphics. EA and DICE played it safe by providing the same thing they did the last time around, with another phoned-in campaign and only minor alterations to the online.

Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.
