The singleplayer is very well made regarding graphics and story, there are some awesome quick time elements, unfortunately the A.I. is not excellent and the areas in which you fight are often enclosed making it like a shooting gallery. For the most part it is very linear, which makes it lack a depth in the gameplay that I find necessary in this age of games. However, the co-op mode is a great inclusion and I find the co-op missions really fun, all depth returns when you can play missions with a friend - and the fact that the missions have a separate story running throughout and are all completely different scenario's is ideal. And then of course there is the MP, while not a perfect bug free experience it is without a doubt the most robust and statisfying first person shooter experience on any platform. Tonnes of unlocks, tonnes of weapons and vehicles including jets, 64 player combat et all. Alongside that, Battlelog is a great addition, it's in it's fledgling stages at the moment and there are issues but it is greatly powerful and these things are all being addressed by Dice.

Alongside that, because I preordered BF3 (For £30) I am getting Back to Karkand for free, the first DLC, with another 4 maps, 3 vehicles and 10 weapons. All in all, the game is remarkable, while not perfect it undoubtedly deserves a 10 for really stepping up what is expected of you in an FPS.

EA and DICE definitely heading right direction though. Because most gamers don't get that there is thrill in excitement knowing you can die when you make the wrong move and not just run and gun. When you survive and win there is a joy and accomplishment feeling to it. War game is all about surviving, winning objectives and killing the opposition. The King is dead, long live the King.
I am of course referring to COD:MW3 being deceased. Finally the Battlefield series can emerge from CODs shadow and be (for PC at least) the first person shooter of choice.
And I'm saying that as a COD fan. BF3 sets a new standard with a fantastic next generation game engine, MW3 by comparison looks old and tired.
    It's time to move on.

A true sequel to DICE's Battlefield 2 - People may be upset with the fact that the single-player was not up to par with most campaigns in other games (and in my opinion, it was) - but Battlefield has and always will be a multiplayer game and for people to rate this game down simply because the single player wasn't as good as they hoped is moronic and ignorant

Battlefield 3 is simply the most realistic multiplayer experience of this generation. While it suffers from graphical glitches and the use of Battlelog, it still provides enough to be considered one of the best games this year. While it suffers from graphical glitches and the use of Battlelog, it still provides enough to be considered one of the best games this year. The singleplayer is clearly not the main event here, but it isn't as bad as many other reviewers say. It's far more realistic than Call of Duty, but it does not provide anything groundbreaking. That's fine though, as there really isn't much you can do to innovate a military shooter's campaign than to make it more realistic in terms of AI, environmental effects, and character physics. It's silly, because certain games dubbed "single player only games" can get away without having multiplayer, so it should only be fair to let multiplayer-based games get away with that too. Including a single player that isn't horrible should be considered a nice addition rather than a piece of garbage. The multiplayer, being the main attraction here, is clearly in a league of its own. The multiplayer features dynamic environments that can completely affect the way you play the game. For example, the sun in your eyes could prevent you from getting a kill, just like in reality, or hiding behind a thin wall may provide dangerous, as it can crumble at the hands of gunfire or explosives, leading to your demise. The weapon customization is moderately deep, which is a huge improvement over anyone who has been playing the Bad Company series. There are plenty of awards and unlocks to keep you coming back for more as well. One of the most appealing features of this game is the realism in the physics. Your gun has recoil (Call of Duty fans should google the definition), you can't just "sprint" up ladders, wind keeps your parachute from descending in a straight line, bright lights can blind you, the list goes on and on. This is a game designed with realism in mind and is not intended for fans of arcade shooters (Halo, Call of Duty, etc). Also, as it should be obviously apparent, the game has the best graphics in the business.

The flaws are certainly not burdensome to the point where the game is ruined, as I gave it a 9, but they do keep it from being a perfect game. Battlelog was clearly an idea that should have never left the drawing board and there are too many graphical glitches that keep the multiplayer experience from being exceptionally sharp. Other than that, Battlefield 3 is a great game and certainly wins the "war" against a non-improving Call of Duty MW3.

THIS IS A FULL REVIEW, SO ONLY READ THIS IF YOU ARE REALLY INTERESTED IN THIS GAME:

DICE built Battlefield 3, using the new Frostbite 2 engine from the ground up, DICE has never been the one for story script, and Single Player has a weird cliche with Black Ops. Single Player has a minimal 3 hour campaign, the only upside to the Campaign is the Cinematics. They look almost realistic and it shows the real power of the Frostbite 2 engine. Now, Battlefield 3 is the first game on the Frostbite 2 Engine, so you will expect frequent bugs, but very rarely game-breaking. DICE is constantly doing maintence, and frequent updates to tweak and improve gameplay. Most people will hate it, and just give up on it because "they dont get any time on it". If you buy the game currently, expect a whooping 5GB of download. Of course some people won't care, but people on a fixed internet bandwith watch out, but besides that, you're running off the Web Browser with the PC Version, after a while you get used to it and actually enjoy it. It's got a lot of features to enhance your experience. I've actually measured it and concluded that 1 hour on Battlefield 3 is approx. 50MB, so after patches, it gets good.

Multiplayer is where it's all at. Single Player is very liner and scripted, Multiplayer is the exact opposite. Lots of varying weapons: 8-Primary, -Secondary (Sidearm),
-1st Gadget (Rocket Launcher, Medi-Kit, Ammo-Pack), -2nd Gadget (Repair Torch, Defibrillator, C4 Explosive) -then a perk (Ammo, Grenades, Sprint)

There's also four unique different classes:
Assault (Same as BFBC2, But now has Medi-Kit)
Support (BFBC2's Medic, Now has Ammo-Pack)
    Engineer (Same as BFBC2)
Recon (Same as BFBC2, but without explosives and added sensor gadgets)

Every gun has their own attachments, and the list goes on.

Vehicles are varied, and their are also a lot of perks coming with it. Tanks, IFV's, Jets, Heli's. PC is recommended since Console is pretty much handicapped, PC has a maximum of 64 Players while 24 for Console, controllers are considered a bit bugged and unreliable and the maps are reduced in size.

The only downside is that lag is common, you might find a few servers with little to no lag if you look properly. There is also very good players, so you will get trampled on your first few games, and there is also no VIOP, so consider getting Skype or something if you want to play with friends.

Co-Op is something to do with friends, its a bit boring, but it's something if you're sick of Multiplayer. Co-Op seems like something whipped up in the last second, but is very good on one mission to learn how to fly a heli. There is Matchmaking for Co-Op, but you cant talk to them directly and they leave most of the time.

Overall it's a very meaty game for war-crazed gamers. There is a lot of problems with DICE's Battlefield Premium asking for $50 for all the DLC's, while they cost $15 each. But that's for another time.

Overall it's 9/10, people love it, people hate it. The community can sometimes be jerks, but you will find some good guys.

    I suggest getting it.

He ended up showing me the Paris trailer and it sold me. After that the beta came out and I enjoyed it despite the buggy state that was to be expected of a beta game. After buying it I am absolutely in love with this game and satisfied. The single player game is like most fps games. Short (5 hours or so) and almost forgettable. I'm not saying it's bad because it's not. The story was decent, the visuals were good, the combat got a little predictable after awhile but still fun. I did enjoy it but give it a few months and I won't really remember the story. The co-op was a good idea. I would really only play this with a friend but I wasn't as fortunate. If I'm a not getting paired up with a moron who stands in the wide open getting gunned down only for me to save him it's a very solid addition. All of the co-op missions are unique. Some are just out right run and gun. Some are about protecting vehicles. One of them you and your teammate are in a helicopter and have to protect a squad of infantry and in another you and your teammate are snipers moving from point to point to cover a squad. You also earn points that go towards unlocking guns for multiplayer and dog tags so their is a reward to playing it too. The multiplayer is where this game shines as one would expect for an fps. It's a faster paced fps so their will always be action around every corner. Quite a few different game types for everyone to enjoy. You progress through ranks, rank up the class you play, unlock guns through your rank and class, and also unlock around 19 different upgrades for every guns that help out in various situations. The destructible element of the game makes things interesting. Are enemies camping inside a building and mowing down your teammates? Get in a tank or switch to an engineer and blast the wall out so they are in the wide open. One thing that usually makes or breaks the multiplayer for me are the maps. Dice took a lot of time on these maps. Most of them are well done to the point that I don't have a preference as to which one I'm playing anymore. The levels have several close quarter areas which i personally enjoy and some longer range engagements that are good for snipers or vehicles. Visually that game is great. Dice pushed forward forcing the next gen of PC hardware to come out. The large maps are gorgeous. The lighting effect are the best I've seen so far in a game. The texture mesh on the uniforms of the soldier's is very realistic if you scope in on it. The smoke and fire in the game is very really. Couldn't have ask for a game that was easier on the eyes than this one. As much as I like this game I have a couple of complaints. This game on the PC version requires about 9 other programs to run it. You need origin, punkbustera, punkbusterb, a web browser open, sonar, BF3 and maybe a few others. It's a memory whore. You can't have any communication in co-op unless playing with a friend. That includes typing. You also can't talk on a multiplayer server, not even in a squad. I also am not a fan of launching it from a browser. I like the traditional way of firing a game up and going to a server list. That way I can just alt tab and come back to this game. The battlelog page was very buggy but it was mostly fixed. Missing dogtags and various stats. Also something to be aware of a lot of people are experiencing random crashes quite often even with high end hardware so beware. I personally don't have this problem. I've also seen that the customer support sucks, some of the support people end internet chat sessions or tell the customer to contact amazon.com when they clearly could easily fix the problem. I will give dice credit they are working hard on bugs and I am seeing improvements quickly. They are also listening to customer feedback on a 3rd party website and actively participating in answer question inside the community and working to implement new things or fix problems. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes faster paced fps to anyone. They have so many different game types to cater to everyone. I myself like the more basic team deathmatch because I'm an old school counter-strike player and not that big into vehicles. I recommend this to cod players (even the bitter ones). I don't know why everyone out their thinks they have to play one or the other or pick a favorite. Bf3 is a solid game and is pushing forward the limits of gaming. Hey look another Battlefield game. Its a solid multiplayer game. The campaign wasnt well told, but I wouldnt call it the worst story ive played in a game. Its not perfect, there is plenty of inbalance and rather stupid tactics, but its forgivable for a solid multiplayer experience.

One of the maps is absolutely horrible, but if you get the game ill let you figure out which map it is.

In my opinion the best battlefield ever created. The physiology of weapons is very good and reproduced faithfully to reality. The type of battle is very realistic, very similar to a real battle, this brings the game to be highly addictive. As for the graphics it is good but in my opinion is much improved. For fans of the FPS genre, a must-have title.

Another great detail that I thought was cool was the glare given off from a sniper scope in the bush, allowing me to counter snipe him just in time (this was in MP (Multiplayer) mode). I thought the Facebook style main page was great way to manage, contacting your friends and checking your stats against your mates (i think in mw3 you have to pay for this added feature).I don't know if this game will dominate MW3 but I have made up my mind just to buy this game alone. Perhaps maybe when Steam has a big ole sale and slashes the price down by half, then I'll purchase MW3 just to finish SP mode (Single player) and have a crack at the MP mode because one thing that I'll miss is the SND mode (Search and Destroy). But driving a tank with your buddy and crushing your enemies with it, so much fun! I also like the squad base mechanics of the game. You work as a team and you will be ranking up and unlocking all those fantastic goodies in no time (game play tips: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield-3/1210757p1.html ) . The SP mode has some great action pace sequences and some great memorable moments where you are left saying WOW! In the MP mode the load times take a bit longer to get into the game but all good things come to those who wait (maybe i need to upgrade my pc). I have noticed at times there are sound effects that are missing from both the SP and MP mode but its nothing major that a patch wouldn't fix. Now I played about 815 hours on MW2 since its release back in Nov '09 (most time ever spent on a FPS game) and if i beat that benchmark in less time, then I sure made a good decision going with BF3. No doubt MW3 will be a great game as well but if you have limited time (or budget) to play 1 game, then let it be BF3. Expand

The rockets (rpgs), while still annoying, won't instagib you like in bc2. The in game party creation is pretty useful and it's nice not to have to give out vent or teamspeak info all the time. The jets are pretty sweet, though you really need a joystick to be able to pull off some fancy dog fighting. The coop missions are pretty fun and an interesting addition, though they really pale compared to the general multi-player. There are only a couple points that I have a hard time with. The IRNV scope is so overpowered it's sick, being able to see people through brush is just too big of an advantage to go with any other scope. The parties mentioned above only hold 8 people, so, while useful, not very practical if you're playing with a bunch of friends or a clan. One thing I loved about bc2 was how destructible everything was, while bf3 is still super destructible, there are random bits in the environment that you just CANNOT destroy. Watch out for signposts in tanks... seriously... The great way outweigh the bad or frustrating, thus my 9. Though there are issues, it's nice to see they're at least still improving the game and listening to feedback. (can queue up in servers now) Expand

The best new FPS this year, hands down. The campaign is more or less a spectacularly better looking version of a Call of Duty campaign. There is little to story or plot cohesion, but if you did not find this a problem in CoD, you won't here. Visuals are stunning, as if I need to tell you. The multiplayer experience, vehicles in all, is as good as one can hope for.

While destroying a tank, chopper, or jet won't always render you a kill, it's also nice that the pilot of the vehicle has a chance to escape before death.
The graphics are amazing even in multiplayer(where the bad company series seemed to have dumbed itself down a bit). The explosions are almost realistic and the destruction of buildings is almost jaw dropping to watch, yet feel a bit limited compared to the destruction in bad company series, in that it's much harder to blow a wall out. That said, it's also a bit more realistic in that aspect. The bullet drop and having to lead targets makes the combat aspects of the game more enjoyable for players like me that understand you're not gonna shoot the guy running across your screen half the map away in the head if you try shooting where he is instead of where he'll be. My issues with the game fall under seperate aspects. The coop. is weak at best, and the campaign feels a bit cod'esk in it's linear playstyle, yet it's still less linear than cod, but more so than the bad company series, still, having a campaign at all in a series that with 1942, vietnam, bf2, and 2142 never had a campaign, it's nice to see they put themselves in that realm and did so in a way to make them a strong competetor against the fps giant that is the cod series.
With multiplayer my issues aren't with graphics, physics, or anything like that, but fall more in line with the guns and sites themselves. For instance a sniper will have to compete with bullet drop, where as a player with an assault rifle, shotgun with slugs, smg, or lmg seem to have much less issues with bullet drop. The sniper must aim above you to hit you at a certain distance, yet that guy with the saw can aim staight at you from the same distance and still hit you. it's almost rediculous how accurate weapons like saws and 240s are yet weapons like m4s and m16s are less accurate, which in my experience is just the opposite, bipod or not. Then you come into sites such as the unlocked site for each weapon which is labelled as a night vision sight, yet gives you the view of a thermal site, but yet is still blinded by flashlights and laser pointers the way and actual night vision site would be. It's a bit confusing. Perhaps one of the patches that dice releases should fix the bullet drop of non-snip weapons to be realistic, and perhaps they should give night vision sites the green hue of actual night vision and perhaps add thermal as another site that isnt' blinded by lights and lasers. Oh, and what's up with being blinded by flash lights in broad day light, while standing out in the sun??? Anyone else catch that??
Overall though, battlefield 3 is quite an enjoyable game besides the campaign and coop. As a matter of fact, I can't bring myself to keep playing the same old boring coop rounds over and over again in order to unlock all those weapons. The only one of them that really seems worth it anyway was the rex.
Apart from that, I've already pulled several hours out of the game, and still have yet to make a dent in the amount of weapons, gadgets, perks, and vehicle unlocks their are in this game.
So i'm knocking off half a point for each of the issues that I have with it. -0.5 for bullet drop on non-snip weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for sites and accuracy of weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for a short campaign(though it's suprising to me for a battlefield to even have a campaign), -0.5 for the weak at best coop.
    Overall 8.
I enjoy it quite a bit, and with the back to karkand map pack we're not only getting 4 new maps, but 3 new vehicles(probably tied specifically to these maps), and 10 new weapons. Lets just hope they bring back the sip line from the battlefield 2 expansion. That would put a whole new twist on a game like this.

But I think EA can build a training scene for noobs so they know how to use those jet fighters and vehicles instead of wasting those tactical advantages like crap. The multiplayer of course is the highlight. more customization than any other battlefield game, with some pretty cool stuff. The only bad parts with the multiplayer is the tactical flashlight, spawn system, and expecting gamers to play as a team. the tactical flashlight doesn't just blind your opponent/team mate, it makes it so that you can't see ANYTHING on your screen whatsoever. the laser sight is fine, it doesn't really give me a problem. I have found myself either spawning right in front of an enemy, or in one case i had, behind 3 enemies trying to flank a flag. Also, it's great that you need to use team work to win, it definately adds a great feel of camaraderie to the game, but DICE expected EVERYONE to play as a team. just today i spawned at my deployment on firestorm. I saw someone climb into the attack helicopter so i ran to be his gunner, he took off with his gunner seat still empty. i then turned to our transport helicopter...same thing. the guy jumped in and took off, even with me shooting the helicopter to get him to stay.

So yes, it does have some problems but i think the pros far outweigh the cons in this game.

Great multiplayer, but flops on single player. The story line feels like run out of a mill, leave nothing to be excited about. ON the multiplayer, it put players to work together to achieve a goal, unlike most of the FPS games where you can just run and gun.

    SINGLE PLAYER:
The campaign is the first step by DICE to tell a serious campaign, ignoring the comical adventures from Bad Company it goes for the dark and gritty tones which is helped from the new Frostbite engine which gives some of the best graphics I have ever seen. The campaign takes from Black Ops the CIA interrogating a soldier and the nuclear threat from Modern Warfare and comes out, unoriginal but very fun while it lasts. I had a few moments where I verbally out loud said "Oh **** when a scripted event happened, one moment involves a Russian Jet Fighter taking strafing runs at your squad as you run from cover to cover trying to predict its path. This excitement I got out of the game is helped from the incredible sound which, with a surround sound system engulfs you in the action. The game has many quick time events, which only involve very few keys which seem to be so easy your just pressing the key to make the game know your its **** You drive very few vehicles in this single player which is disappointing since there are no tutorials on how to fly choppers and jets, leaving most people to jump into the multiplayer only to crash into the ground immediately. Id give the campaign a 7, due to some exciting set pieces that really got me involved.

    MULTIPLAYER:
Battlefield is a multiplayer game, and this is wear it really gets going. Multiplayer matches are large, frantic and fun. There are no campers hiding by objectives due to the balance of spotting, destructible environments and Vehicles leveling out the battlefield and keeping things even allowing snipers who sit on the hills surrounding some maps to have to keep mobile not to get caught. This doesn't mean it comes with out frustration, when you make a class, you have the option of attaching sights and other things to your weapon, only for it to be erased when you change teams and also, a poor map and intrusive chat log clog the screen, but these are nagging issues easily tackled with a update or two. I found the battles epic, sounding amazing (with myself ducking when a rocket came whizzing past my players head) and looking amazing too. The maps are great with a good variation to the large deserts of Operation Firestorm to the Basejumping of one map. Yes, base jumping in multiplayer. I will give the multiplayer a 9 with me having the most fun I have ever had in a shooter online.

SP maybe isn't that good, but MP just pwns!
From flying jets, helicopters, tanks, jeeps, to brutal strategy fighting, thinking, captioning points, rushing, unlocking all the stuff you can, just amazingly brings you back into game for more and more and more!
Also, upcoming DLC - Back To Karkand, will show us what really Battlefield is!
Big maps, enchanced destructions, new weapons, vehicles, just in the style of DICE!
Also, on DRMB's podcast, someone mentioned that would be nice if DICE make an BF3 - WW2, so to see a World War in the Frostbite 2 look, and maybe, who knows we see the expansion for it!
From now on, as DICE said, Frostbite 2, and BF3 which uses it's engine, which is so big and powerful, we can expect just everything!
Maybe there aren't mods from third party devs, but who knows, when people get better PCs, and DICE realize that it's time to give developers a mod making availability, this game will pwn even more!

So, I'll talk more about MP style and feeling:

CONQUEST MODE: PTFO, PTFO and PTFO! Help your team, help your squad, learn new routes, stick with squad/team, or go with your squad to capture the point, but be prepared for EVERYTHING!
    Use vehicles! Destroy vehicles!
Try every weapon, unlock all of the weapon upgrades of weapon you really like! ;)
Play the class that suits best for you, and you really like it!
If you are unlocking, and getting used to the class, CONQUEST is maybe a good choice, cuz everything is in CONQUEST, from RUSH, TDM to learning strategy and how to work as a player of that class!
If you are n00b at some class, stick with the team/squad, and assist them!
If you are medic, REVIVE them, no matter what! Yeah yeah, somebody will say DRMB, but, you got points for every revive, but still, be sure not to revive dead soldier, and to be dead again

    RUSH:
    Fast, brutal fight!
FFS! if not PTFO, you lost
Don't go for your damn K/D, K/D doesn't matter at all! Only if you are defending!
PTFO, if your's M-COM is armed, DISARM it! :)

Using of weapons and attachments in RUSH:
maybe some of you already know that tac-light is kinda OP in BF3 (getting nerf in upcoming patch), so in some situations is very good, but be sure to not show your position to the enemy with it... Same with the laser attachment!
    Use supressor! :)
Use IRNV! This attachment is just like AIMBOT from DICE :D M416/SCAR-H/M249 or any other accuracy good weapon + IRNV + SUPRESSOR + AMMO = pWNS!

    TDM:
For someone yei, for someone nei...
But, if you like 1 on 1 fight, or 1 vs 32, or 32 vs 32, or just aggressive, adrenaline fight, with many spawn camps, spawning behind you, or spawning in front of your enemy, and such, go for it! :D
Must say, it's fun to play, it's OK for weapon unlocking, and to test all weapon, gadget, attachment combinations! Try it out!

    Conclusion:

    PROs:
    - awesome graphics and audio, which is almost as real as you are there (must have 5.1, 7.1 set!), sound of bullets (every bullet sounds different, depending on weapon, gadget, supressor...), explosions, walking, running, flying jets, just EVERYTHING!
    - ranks, and all is about unlocks, which will just say to you COME BACK, I need to unlock more, what's coming next, oh, must play it!
    - TEAMPLAY! - yeah, this game (compairing to CoD) is really teamplay/squad oriented, if you don't play as a team, or you don't take objectives with your whole team, you just LOST! So, help your TEAM! ;)
    - Prone! Added again, from BF2, very startegically, and maybe someone will say it's a camping thing, but it isn't, when someone see's you, you are dead, no matter what... But still, prone is awesome for taking objectives, for hiding, also be sure to check prone enemy with some bullets to see is it dead, or prone :D
    - Vehicles, jet flying is so amazing, and so realistic, that everyone want to fly jets! Unlocking stuff for jets adds the another lvl to this game, which will set you for hours and hours in the **** trying to destroy enemy jets, helicopters, tanks and such!
    - Classes! Different from BFBC2, but, very nicely done!
    - Bullet drop!
    - Health regen.
    - Hardcore mode
    - You must buy this game! ;)

    CONs:
    - Battlelog bugs, but still, guys from DICE are working on it every single day! - Some ingame things, like spawns, tac-light, OP weapons, but that's still being updated - For new players, it'll be hard to start, and for CoD player (they'll just die) xD j/k - and maybe a PC optimization, but still, this game needs some of PC juice, and that's normal! Cya on BattleField! ;)

I was so happy to see the first teaser I nearly exploded with joy and as time moved on I only got more excited with each new trailer showing off the lovely Frostbite 2 engine this game would be made on. It all looked so promising, but soon my "fanboyism" was put aside to look at this logically.

Having gone through DICE game launches before I knew it was bond to go bad cause a game like this, with a brand new engine, is bond to have a few bugs. Well with the launch of the Beta i got a some taste of the game. I was happy to a point when the game actually managed to damage my CPU. Needless to say I was shocked, but it was easily looked over as I was already looking into replacements before the beta.

The Beta Game itself was broken, bugged, and for the most part a Beta. The main idea of it was to stress test the servers that would be used on PC. This I understood well and looked over many issues while still pointing them out so they would get sorted before release.

Release Day. My Computer ready with shiny new parts, an upgrade to the OS, and the game installed. So far not bad. Origin annoyed me a little, but I wanted to get to the game so I looked past it for the time being. I clicked on the exe and....Firefox opened to BattleLog. OK not a total surprise I pretty much expected it to do that after playing the Beta. I set up my profile, find a few old friends, join my platoon, and then straight to the server browser. Sadly however that was also still on BattleLog. This is getting annoying. I was hoping for an in-game browser, but oh well.

After getting in game I notice right away the difference between Retail and Beta. The game is beautiful! Even on the lowest possible setting. Gameplay was smooth, the weapons looked awesome, and acted like I'd expect them to. The map Caspian Border is such an awesome place and looks to have that classic Battlefield feel......to a point.

Like most maps in this game I've played on(all of them) it's flag points for Conquest(which for most BF2 vets is the go-to game mode) are WAY to close to each other. Getting to each one is nothing more then a hope, skip, and really that's it. No jump. Although I loved the map I was kind of sadden to see this. I was hoping for a classic BF feel in the maps. If I needed to get from point to point in BF2 I needed a Jeep, Tank, or Chopper to get me there as fast as possible. In BF3 I can sprite there just fine, no need to waste the chopper on transport I'm fine on foot.

After a few matches I went back to BattleLog to see how the state tracking is. So far it hasn't given me a single problem. I love that I don't have to go search for a random 3rd party site to see my states out-of-game. BattleLog itself isn't a bad idea. I like having the forums, stats, friends list, and the Battle Feed which shows off how good my friends are.

I however don't like that I'm forced to launch the game through BattleLog. I'm not happy with this being the "Future of Gaming" when an In-game menu is something all games should have. Gimmicks like this are what makes or breaks the game for some people. It also doesn't help that we also need Origin to play even when it doesn't nothing for the game. Origin and BattleLog don't even work together. Its a waste of space on my computer and just flat out annoying.

ON top of these things the game itself is still bugged in a few ways. Not all issues from the Beta were completely fixed or removed. The in-game Chat Box is too big, The Tactical Flash Light is as bright or brighter then the sun, and I still can check my ping while in-game which for an OCD ping checker like me is very VERY annoying.

In closing I'd like to say that despite the problems, and annoyances. The game is fun. I can't say if it's a complete Battlefield game or not, but I can say I will most likely be enjoying this game for a long time. Sooner or later a Patch or two will hit and like with all other Battlefield before. Problems will be fixed. I trust DICE that much at least.

Think of the single player as a tutorial system and this game makes a lot more sense. Fundamentally Battlefield is always about the multiplayer, and this has a fantastic multiplayer system. Most of the criticism has to focus on the awful Origin, but blaming that on Battlefield would be like blaming Left 4 Dead on any issues Steam had.

Multi players is insane. Great squad based gameplay, well designed maps, overall its fun and simply entertaining. Co-op is interesting. I had more fun in this than the single player. I was expecting just being able to go through the SP with a buddy, but Co-Op is it s own mini-series. Very interesting concept. However, it seemed under developed, almost as an afterthought (or an extra game mode to stick on the box). I hope this will be expanded later on with DLC or expansions. This game is definitely going to be around for years, like BF2. I debated dockeding a point because of the terribly low ceilings for the jets in some maps. I have a feeling this has something to do with being able to support the consoles, and I hope it gets patched out of the pc version - so if your a flyer, you've been warned. And there is no default ingame voice for squads. You have to set up a party in Origins to use voice, if your not in a squad with clannies utilizing TS/Vent. I would definitely recommend buying this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will start off with the single player and move onto the multi player.
The story is very standard. The main bad guys are quite generic and the locations are, for the most part, uninspired. The gun play is quite good, you need to use some tactics if you are to survive and there are a few scripted sequences which liven things up a little. I have a few problems with the mission design because some missions seemed like they were ripped right out of other games. The most obvious of these "borrowed" missions, as I will call them, is one called 'Night Shift'. In said mission, you start off as a marksman who must first make his way through a city, following orders from a senior so that you don't get caught by enemy patrols, to a vantage point which you provide covering fire from. This mission, to me at least, felt just like I was playing the mission "All Ghillied Up" from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The similarity only got stronger towards the end of the mission, where you back yourself into a corner, lay claymore mines all around yourself and then have to protect a wounded ally from enemy fire. After a certain amount of time, you then have to run out, through enemy fire, to your extraction helicopter which is waiting outside. This is almost an exact replica of the mission which directly succeeds "All Ghillied Up", which is called "One Shot, One Kill". However, Night Shift is a very good level and I had a lot of fun playing it, so this likeliness serves more as an annoyance to me than a game stopper. I think where the single player shined for me was the protagonists that you play throughout the game. There are I think four in total, two of which only appear for a single mission each. These protagonists have very cleverly designed and incredibly immersive vehicle missions. One a mission where you are in a Jet Aircraft and one a where you take the machine gun and main gun in an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank. These missions are defiantly the most memorable and, in my opinion, the most fun. The other two protagonists are an American and a Russian, I will not go into their missions specifically, but I will say that the use of the Russian protagonist to make, what I thought was, a subtle and incredibly relevant comment on the readiness of American security services to blame the Russians for a travesty that they did not commit. I enjoyed the Russian protagonist's missions immensely, not just for this reason, but also because they had the most variety and most interesting locations.

The campaign is good, not great, so how does the multi player, arguably the pillar of the Battlefield franchise, stand up to the test?

Disappointingly. It is not bad by any stretch of the imagination, I have poured hours into this multi player, including the beta, and I intend to continue doing so. Now I have not played Battlefield 2 so I make a massive assumption in saying that Battlefield 3 multi player feels more like the most recent Medal of Honour than it does a proper Battlefield game. Now I love both Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honour, so either way, I enjoy the multi player. I was, however, hoping for more intense, explosion ridden, cover debris covered, team focused multi player. This, unfortunately, is not the case. There are hardly any opportunities to show off Frostbite 2's lovely destruction physics and the game seems more focused on run-and-gun game play. This is a shame as I was hoping for an experience more like that of Bad Company 2. Now that I have had my little rant, I can tell you that the multi player for Battlefield 3 is outstanding. The intensity is still there, something I feel Medal of Honour lacked, the team play, while not as focused as before, is still there and still rewarding you for helping your team by providing them with ammo or health, reviving them or providing a forward spawn point for them etcetera.

In conclusion, I love this game, I think it was well worth my time and money and I can almost guarantee it will be worth yours as well. I do not think the games flaws, of which, admittedly, there are many, get in the way of the fun at all. I give the game a hearty eight and eagerly await DICE's next instalment.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.
