Aug 31, 2023Atlas Fallen has much going for it, with satisfying combat, lovely visuals within the desolate environment, plenty of collectibles, and the fun sand-sliding mechanic to traverse between quest locales. But it also suffers from a several issues – not the least being the bland storyline and dialogue. Chatting to quest givers is somewhat tedious, but luckily once you head off into the dunes this is easily forgotten.
-
Aug 17, 2023Atlas Fallen might not be the best open world game of all time, but it's a fun experience and does a lot right, both mechanically and artistically-wise.
-
Aug 10, 2023Atlas Fallen is fine in parts and frustrating in others. The world seems fascinating, but the characters are the least compelling part of the story. The combat can feel fluid, and the number of powers you can use makes for a good deal of build possibilities. You'll wish there were more weapons, though. Traversal is fun, but you will need to ignore Nyaal, who often calls out things that are nowhere in the proximity. The development team could've used some more time to tighten things up, but ultimately, Atlas Fallen remains a good distraction in between other, more polished action-adventure games.

Aug 10, 2023Atlas Fallen has a lot going for it, open world exploration, fluid movement, interesting combat and even online co-op. But it is all hampered by bland storytelling, unrewarding loot and some odd design choices.
-
Aug 9, 2023With its unique premise and setting, Atlas Fallen could have been one of the best action games of the year, but its mediocre combat system, dull open-world areas, and lack of interesting characters drag the experience down. The full package ends up being just a decent game for those willing to look past its most critical shortcomings.
-
Aug 9, 2023Atlas Fallen is a study in contrasts. A rote story and inconsistent voice acting are married to an attractive setting and generally fluid movement. On the whole, combat is fun but there's also not a huge variety of enemies. Like in their earlier games, Deck 13 Interactive is definitely punching above their weight. If this results in some moments of unexpected awesomeness, it also results in some rough patches and missing polish.
-
Aug 17, 2023Atlas Fallen is a shallow RPG. I strongly believe that with less work, it could be a much better action-adventure game. If you approach it with this mindset, it might seem like a quite good game.
-
Aug 9, 2023Atlas Fallen has a great premise with pretty enjoyable old-school combat when it works. Frustrating and unreliable mechanics might be a bit of a hindrance, but it works great as a gameplay-heavy title to pick up and play.
-
Aug 9, 2023Atlas Fallen is an ARPG with so many good ideas, both when it comes to exploration and gameplay, but the execution is a bit flawed and, ultimately, it fails to be as enjoyable as it should be.
-
Sep 22, 2023Atlas Fallen is a great example of a game with an interesting premise and a weak execution. Fun sand-sliding and some plot points are probably the only things that would hold your attention up until the end credits.
-
Aug 18, 2023Turns out, I like Atlas Fallen quite a bit. There's love and good ideas on display that deserve to be seen. Throughout long stretches, this is a wonderfully flexible hack-and-slash with neat bells and whistles. It's just that a few of the basics are somewhat lacking.
-
Aug 9, 2023Atlas Fallen is an average action RPG with some interesting Momentum combat mechanics, a respectable open-world design, subpar presentation, and a disappointing narrative. In some ways, it feels like a step down from The Surge titles, and I'll always look forward to what Deck13 works on next, but Atlas Fallen didn't land as strongly for me as I hoped it would.
-
Aug 10, 2023At the end of the day, taking inspiration from other well-known games is not enough for Atlas Fallen to stand on its own feet, and while the game is aesthetically pleasing and the combat has enormous potential, the experience as a whole is immediately forgettable as soon as you close it.
-
Aug 10, 2023Atlas Fallen manages to offer a fairly fun and exciting foundation, but otherwise comes across as a tame experience that you've experienced in better games before.

Aug 9, 2023It's very much a middling time, in other words. Atlas Fallen fulfils the joy of picking up a pre-owned six-out-of-ten at GameStation and going with whatever happens on screen. You'll teeter on a knife edge mentally, as you accept its tedious fetch quests and just fine platforming fare, perhaps occasionally letting out your frustration with a quit to menu as boss fights take the piss, or a quest once again asks you to fetch yet more crystals. Still, the combat is surprisingly robust and its momentum schtick is a proper thrill once you've got the flow down. If anything, it's the combat that'll make you stick around. That is, until you realise there's a lot of other good open world games you could be playing instead of Atlas Fallen.
